Renewable energy sources (RESs) such as solar photovoltaic (PV) systems are increasingly used as distributed generation for replacing the conventional energy. At the same time, energy storage systems like battery (BAT) must be applied for maintaining the balance between fluctuating energy production and load consumption. BAT’s state of charge (SOC) should be maintained within their design limits unaffected by RES intermittency and/or load power variations. This necessitates advanced power control and management methodologies for overcoming challenging conditions. This paper discusses and evaluates an optimal DC bus voltage regulation approach: an intelligent controller using an adaptive fuzzy logic controller (FLC) and a novel supervisory power management strategy for PV systems with BAT. The objectives are to keep a stable power flow in the system and guarantee the continuity of service by ensuring that the system components do not exceed their limits. In this manner, the DC bus voltage regulation of the PV/BAT system can be improved in comparison with conventional regulation. Therefore, the most important contributions of this work are as follows. (1) Development of comprehensive and modular novel energy management system (EMS): its originality is related to the inclusion of the control system limits with faster SOC balancing and smaller DC bus voltage fluctuation. (2) Providing a simple power flow management implementation that considers the optimal energy flow between PV system, BAT system, and load: a balance between minimal energy flow in the connecting line and the least requirements of BAT capacity is kept, reducing component constraints with a very straightforward structure. (3) Furthermore, FLC offers high robustness and smooth performances. FLC is added to the control strategy design requirements to reduce DC bus voltage deviation. (4) Real-time simulation/experimentation-based complete cases utilizing Matlab/Simulink and DSpace are illustrated to testify the effectiveness of the proposed FLC and EMS.

This paper proposes an adaptive, three-dimensional (3D) path-following controller for airships in the presence of wind disturbances, which explicitly considers that wind speed is time-varying. The main idea is to formulate airship path-following as control design for systems in the presence of parametric uncertainties and external disturbances. Assuming that there is no prior information on wind, the proposed solution is based on the [Formula: see text] adaptive controller. This approach makes clear statements for performance specifications of the controller and relaxes the common assumption that wind speed is constant. This makes the design more realistic and the analysis more rigorous, because in practice, the wind speed may be time-varying. The results of the simulation indicate that the path following system has a good performance and is robust against wind disturbances.

The tremendous evolution in modern technology has led to a paradigm shift in neurosurgery. The latest advancements such as augmented reality, virtual reality, and mobile applications have been incorporated into neurosurgical practice. NeuroVerse, representing the application of the metaverse in neurosurgery, brings enormous potential to neurology and neurosurgery. Implementation of NeuroVerse could potentially elevate neurosurgical and interventional procedures, enhance medical visits and patient care, and reshape neurosurgical training. However, it is also vital to consider the challenges that may be associated with its implementation, such as privacy issues, cybersecurity breaches, ethical concerns, and widening of existing healthcare inequalities. NeuroVerse adds phenomenal dimensions to the neurosurgical environment for patients, doctors, and trainees, and represents an incomparable advancement in the delivery of medicine. Therefore, more research is needed to encourage widespread use of the metaverse in healthcare, particularly focusing on the areas of morality and credibility. Although the metaverse is expected to expand rapidly during and after the COVID-19 pandemic, it remains to be seen whether it represents an emerging technology that will revolutionize our society and healthcare or simply an immature condition of the future.

The aim of this work is to develop a new generalized formula and a numerical computation program for evaluating the energy form coefficient of a complex and arbitrary cross section for full and thin-walled cross section with respect to any central axis, for the bending of beams of small lengths in comparison with the transverse dimension of the section. This coefficient plays a very important role in the calculation of the deformation energy of beams subjected to bending under the effect of a shearing force for short beams. It also enters in the formulation of FEM bending model, in order to calculate the stresses and the strains due to the external forces. The application is made for complex sections used in various fields of construction and in particular for airfoils designed for aerospace construction. A method is developed to calculate this coefficient as a function of the rotation of the central axes. The calculation of the area, the moments, and the product of inertias with respect to the central axes is necessary. The formula for calculating this coefficient is presented as a definite integral of a non-analytical function determined point by point along the direction of the application of the shear force. This function is based on the calculation of the partial static moments. The calculation of the latter is based on the development of a technique by subdividing the upper part of the section into adjacent common triangles at one point for the full solid section or by segments on the boundary for the thin-walled section. To speed up the process of numerically calculating this integral with high precision and reduced time, Gauss Legendre quadrature of order 40 is used. The calculation of the distribution of the tangential stress as well as its maximum value is determined. A shear shape coefficient is therefore determined. In the second part of this work, an application is made for the static calculation by the FEM of a hyper static beam with a view to determining the influence of this coefficient on all the parameters of resistance and bending stiffness as a correction of the classical model of bending by the FEM. A study of the error made by the classical bending model on our shear effect model is presented. A coefficient of efficiency of a section is presented.

Abstract: Glioblastoma Multiforme (GBM) is a debilitating type of brain cancer with a high mor-tality rate. Despite current treatment options such as surgery, radiotherapy, and the use of te-mozolomide and bevacizumab, it is considered incurable. Various methods, such as drug reposition-ing, have been used to increase the number of available treatments. Drug repositioning is the use of FDA-approved drugs to treat other diseases. This is possible because the drugs used for this purpose have polypharmacological effects. This means that these medications can bind to multiple targets, resulting in multiple mechanisms of action. Antipsychotics are one type of drug used to treat GBM. Antipsychotics are a broad class of drugs that can be further subdivided into typical and atypical classes. Typical antipsychotics include chlorpromazine, trifluoperazine, and pimozide. This class of antipsychotics was developed early on and primarily works on dopamine D2 receptors, though it can also work on others. Olanzapine and Quetiapine are examples of atypical antipsychotics, a cate-gory that was created later. These medications have a high affinity for serotonin receptors such as 5-HT2, but they can also act on dopamine and H1 receptors. Antipsychotic medications, in the case of GBM, also have other effects that can affect multiple pathways due to their polypharmacological effects. These include NF-B suppression, cyclin deregulation, and -catenin phosphorylation, among others. This review will delve deeper into the polypharmacological, the multiple effects of antipsy-chotics in the treatment of GBM, and an outlook for the field's future progression.

Nowadays, research on electric drive control has become popular because hybrid methods to collect the advantages of individual controllers. Moreover, these methods aim to reach better performance and robust control even in the presence of uncertainties and disturbances which are typically evident in high-speed dynamics where the influence of external disturbances and modeling errors are more evident. Therefore, in this paper, a novel hybrid controller is proposed between the super-twisting algorithm based on high order design (HO-STA) and terminal sliding mode control (T-SMC) applied on a permanent magnet synchronous motor PMSM. Whereas, it accounts to deal with the weaknesses of both terminal sliding mode control and super twisting algorithm (STA) and at the same time combining their advantages; furthermore, it provides exceptional characteristics, including fast finite-time convergence, stabilization of the performance and its reaching law developer based on new design which contributes to reducing the chattering problems afflicted by C-SMC. This proposed hybrid technique contributes to gaining robust control under variation between slow, medium, and high speed levels, no matter what load torque is applied or whatever PMSM parameters change. Moreover, it also offers optimum performance characteristics such as smaller settling time and steady state error. Whereas, the control efficiency is demonstrated by Matlab/Simulink simulation to confirm our design parameters.

In this paper, multi-scale numerical modelling analysis is proposed to study the ballistic responses of a Kevlar KM2 woven fabric. Three meso-microscopic multi-scale numerical models are conducted by varying the number of microscopic primary yarns in the impact zone from 2 to 10. In each model, we analyse the evolution of the contact force, the projectile velocity and the fabric energies. An analysis of the failure modes of each configuration is also performed. Results of the three multi-scale models and a mesoscopic model are compared in order to find the optimal number of microscopic primary yarns to predict the fabric’s ballistic behaviour. It is highlighted that the multi-scale model consumes a reasonable computation cost. Furthermore, with the primary yarns modelled in the fibre scale, this model can fully describe the complex physical phenomena, such as fibre failure and the interaction between fibres, fibres and yarns, that occur during the impact.

Urban planning demands that the needs and problems resulting from the dynamics of society and its development should be taken into account, relying on the studies that consider the reality of the city and the factors influencing its daily life, so it can perform its function under favorable circumstances for a better future within the context of durable development. It should be remembered that the first imbalances of the urban space are those that followed the industrial revolution and the doctrines and intellectual trends. However, the modern trend in architecture and urbanization in terms of urban space is the most influential. Urban space becomes a scene of symbolic confrontations between the designer (imposed plans) and the users of space. This situation appears clearly in the deterioration of the urban space giving a significant transfer of a denial, because of its incompatibility with the needs of the population. The Algerian city has experienced, particularly after the independence, the same situation despite the diversity of cultural and cultural heritage because of several factors, including rapid urban growth. These factors marked the course of the reconstruction and thus the urban structure of the Algerian cities, which urged the search for solutions, hastily put in place, to this evolution which led to changes in the society, testifying a blatant failure to reach the ambitions of users when they were excluded during all stages of the urban project. This is why urban space is considered as consumer goods within the user's reach, although it should be considered as a process rather than a product. Our research work is axed on the inadequacy of the productive environment (living environment or urban space) in the city of M'sila and on the way of life of the population that uses this space for its needs and aspirations, which are expressed through unjustified user interventions in the perspective of adapting space to their way of life. The point is to focus on the user and his participation in the creation of a durable and suitable urban environment.

Multi-Pursuers Multi-Evader Game (MPMEG) is considered as a multi-agent complex problem in which the pursuers must perform the capture of the detected evaders according to the temporal constraints. In this paper, we propose a metaheuristic approach based on a Discrete Particle Swarm Optimization in order to allow a dynamic coalition formation of the pursuers during the pursuit game. A pursuit coalition can be considered as the role definition of each pursuer during the game. In this work, each possible coalition is represented by a feasible particle’s position, which changes the concerned coalition according to its velocity during the pursuit game. With the aim of showcasing the performance of the new approach, we propose a comparison study in relation to recent approaches processing the MPMEG in term of capturing time and payoff acquisition. Moreover, we have studied the pursuit capturing time according to the number of used particles as well as the dynamism of the pursuit coalitions formed during the game. The obtained results note that the proposed approach outperforms the compared approaches in relation to the capturing time by only using eight particles. Moreover, this approach improves the pursuers’ payoff acquisition, which represents the pursuers’ learning rate during the task execution.

In this paper the authors study the existence of positive radial solutions to the Kirchhoff type problem involving the \(p\)-Laplacian \[-\Big(a+b\int_{\Omega_e}|\nabla u|^p dx\Big)\Delta_p u=\lambda f\left(|x|,u\right),\ x\in \Omega_e,\quad u=0\ \text{on} \ \partial\Omega_e,\] where \(\lambda \gt 0\) is a parameter, \(\Omega_e = \lbrace x\in\mathbb{R}^N : |x|\gt r_0\rbrace\), \(r_0\gt 0\), \(N \gt p \gt 1\), \(\Delta_p\) is the \(p\)-Laplacian operator, and \(f\in C(\left[ r_0, +\infty\right)\times\left[0,+\infty\right),\mathbb{R})\) is a non-decreasing function with respect to its second variable. By using the Mountain Pass Theorem, they prove the existence of positive radial solutions for small values of \(\lambda\).

New glasses in the system (80-x) Sb2O3-10WO3-10Li2O co-doped with Bi3+/Er3+ were synthesized using the melt quenching method. The Er3+ concentration was kept constant at 0.25 (mol. %) and the Bi2O3 content takes the values 0.5, 1, 1.5 and 2 (mol. %) in order to elucidate the effect of the Bi2O3 concentration on the measured physical and optical properties of the glasses studied. The pulse echo method of the propagation of ultrasound in these glasses has been used to determine the elastic modules (E, G, K and L) and Poisson ratio. The introduction of Bi2O3 in these glasses increases the thermal stability factor of the glass from 152 to 183°C with an increase in Tg from 275 to 285°C. The UV-Vis cutoff of these glasses redshifts from 408 to 413 nm with a reduction of the indirect band gap from 2.72 to 2.62 ev and a small Urbach energy close to 0.125 nm resulting in small electronic defects in these glasses. The refraction index was found high with small variations in the range [1.965-1.975]. The emission spectra of Er3+ ions in these glasses gave an intense green laser line at 544 nm for an excitation at 488 nm. Moreover, the addition of more Bi2O3, considerably improves this laser line. However, the OH content in these glasses increases with the increase in Bismuth content related probably to the introduction of atmosphere moisture during the synthesis of these glasses. Therefore, the addition of Bi2O3 improves the various physical properties of these glasses making them good candidates for optical applications.

Desert tourism is a tool for economic and social development, which makes it unique, especially if it is based on effective foundations and ingredients that contribute to the national and local economy. However, promoting tourism in desert countries and regions requires policies and strategies that work hard to build infrastructure (airports, roads, railways, hotels, and provide services of all kinds), provide security, and hire experts in tourism consulting. The tourist region of the southwest of Algeria in general witnessed a significant increase in the number of international visitors and tourists during the colonial era and after independence. The city of Béni-Abbés in particular, as well as the entire province of Bechar, is famous for being great tourist destinations. However, due to the particular neglect of desert tourism in this region, the number of arrivals has decreased significantly, especially in recent periods, which has affected the general situation of tourism and attractive beavers. In order to revitalize desert tourism and address the problems that have been highlighted, immediate action is needed.

Nowadays, vehicular networks attract car manufacturers, network researchers, and governments as well. They represent one of the building blocks, for the intelligent transportation systems. Our task is to study the employment of SDN advantages to facilitate and improve the performance of vehicular ad-hoc networks. The goal of the research is to evaluate AODV routing protocol performance improved with SDN technology applied on VANET network in specified environment of a city. We have evaluated three parameters: packet delivery ratio, end-to-end delay and throughput using SUMO and NS3 simulators. The implemented evaluation protocol shows the importance of the adopted approach.

We assessed the sensitivity and specificity of SARS-CoV-2 detection by polymerase chain reaction in heat and moisture exchange filters (HMEF) in mechanically ventilated COVID-19 patients. We showed that testing HMEF might obviate the need for a tracheal sample to affirm that a patient is not ready to end isolation.

This paper studies the effects of fine waste glass powder content (WGP) on fresh and hardened properties of self-compacting repair mortar mixes (SCRMs). For this purpose, mortar mixes were prepared to replace cement with waste glass powder ranging from 0 to 30% at 10% interval and tested. Fresh properties were assessed using mini-slump flow and mini V-funnel. Hardened properties assessed for all mixes were water absorption (at 28-days of age), compressive and flexural strengths (at 7, 28 and 56-days of age). In addition, the adhesion between the repair mortar mixes and substrate was conducted using a 3-point flexural test on a composite prism (half mortar/half substrate) at 28 and 56-days of age. The results showed that glass powder had a negative effect on the workability of mortars. However, in the hardened state, it had a good influence on the strength development after 28 days, durability and adhesion of mortars with the substrate for a waste glass powder content not exceeding 20%.

A numerical methodology has been developed to analyze the thermo-hydrodynamic aspect of airflow occurring in solar chimney power plants (SCPP) according to some dominant parameters. The general curvilinear coordinates finite volume method (GCCFVM), which is necessary in the case of turbulent flow through complex geometries, is used in this work. The governing equations describing the steady state turbulent fluid flow are solved numerically using this technique. It is shown that the chimney tower dimensions control directly the hydrodynamic field. However, the collector dimensions control directly the thermal field and indirectly the hydrodynamic field. It is demonstrated that the solar radiation influences strongly and positively the thermo-hydrodynamic field by increasing the mass flow rate. The mass flow decreases with the increase of the ambient temperature and then the system is more efficient with low ambient temperature. Indeed, the mass flow rate increases from 0.8 kg/s up to approximately 2 kg/s when the solar radiation varies between 200 W/m2 and 1000 W/m2 for fixed ambient temperature value of 30 °C. When ambient temperature increases from 10 °C up to 50 °C, the mass flow rate decreases slightly and in a linear manner from 1.7 kg/s to 1.5 kg/s for fixed solar radiation intensity value of 600 W/m2. Contrasting to other studies, conclusion based on simplified analytical models, ambient temperature affects adversely the performance of a SCPP in decreasing the mass flow rate. This conclusion should be taken into consideration when analyzing models dedicated to the prediction of solar chimney power plant performance.
