The purpose of the study is to investigate the attitude of faculty members of the College of Business Administration at Kuwait University (CBA-KU) toward the AACSB accreditation system and the way they perceive the benefits of accreditation. The level of association and the causal effect of perceived benefits on shaping faculty attitude are also addressed. A questionnaire was administered to all faculty members at CBA-KU resulting in a final response of 43 observations. While the one-sample t-test and Pearson correlation were used to investigate faculty attitude and perceived benefits and their level of association, Regression analysis was utilized in testing the effect of perceived benefits on faculty attitudes. Findings revealed a relatively high positive attitude toward AACSB accreditation and a significant above-average level of agreement with all addressed benefit statements. Significant positive correlation between benefits and attitudes and a significant effect of academic benefits on faculty attitude were also confirmed. The study is the first AACSB accreditation survey in Kuwait which enriches the understanding of the value of earning the accreditation and highlights some factors that enhance faculty positive attitude toward AACSB accrediting.

Young women from urban Egypt are in a context of nutrition transition with a high prevalence of being overweight, excessive energy and sodium intakes, and insufficient iron, vitamin D, and folate intakes. This study, funded by Danone Nutricia Research, investigated the acceptability of dietary recommendations in young urban Egyptian women that have the potential to improve iron intake and nutrient adequacy. Individual interviews and focus groups were conducted in Cairo with 80 middle-class women aged 18–35 years (students, active women, and housewives). Perceived benefits and drawbacks for each recommended food were examined. Motivations and barriers to improving dietary practices were classified into major emerging themes. Analysis of the interviews showed that promoting the recommended foods would be met with both positive and negative feedback (e.g., a positive impact of fruit, vegetables, milk, or yogurt consumption on hair, nails, and skin appearance, and bad taste of vegetables). Motivations for improving dietary practices included the pursuit of aesthetical (e.g., attaining/maintaining body shape, clear skin, bright teeth, strong nails, silky and thick hair) and psychological (e.g., improved self-confidence and self-esteem) benefits. However, the “curative behavior” of the population targeted (i.e., changing dietary practices only when they face a serious issue), some life-stage-related factors (e.g., students and active women consuming most of their meals out-of-home), and sociocultural and economic factors (e.g., social gatherings, the high price of red meat) can constitute barriers for implementing a set of dietary recommendations. This work highlighted that, beyond socio-cultural and economic factors or curative or life-stage-motivated dieting, the pursuit of aesthetical and psychological benefits are essential factors that shape the acceptability of dietary changes.

Rotating fan shaft system was investigated experimentally and theoretically to study its dynamic performance. The type of oil used for the bearing was taken in consideration during the experimental program .Three types of oil were used, SAE 40, SAE 50 and degraded oil. During the experiments, the fan blades stagger angle was changed through angles (20˚, 30˚, 40˚, and 50˚). The shaft rotational speed also changed in the range of (0-3000 rpm). All these parameters have investigated for two cases (balanced and unbalanced fan). The performance parameters of the fan were found experimentally by measuring the fan, volume flow rate, Reynolds and Strouhal numbers, efficiency and pressure head. Analytical part was also represented to prepare the prediction of fan system dynamic performance. The aerodynamic forces and moments of each blade were also predicted to obtain the rotor dynamic future. Experimentally and theoretically the critical fan speed was obtained in the x and y direction for different lubricant oil viscosities and shaft rotational velocities for balanced and unbalanced fan. Analysis of the vibrational response gave important information about the dynamic performance of fan rotating system. Acceptable agreement was found between analytical and experimental results.

This study explored Toronto Zoo animal-care professionals’ (ACPs) experiences with compassion fatigue (CF) using a two-phase participatory methodology. In phase one, 11 participants took photographs of their workplace. In phase two, participants told the story behind their photographs through one-on-one interviews. The data were analyzed using NVivo12 software. The participants’ experiences with compassion fatigue stemmed from issues with foundational infrastructure at the Toronto Zoo. Specifically, the participants highlighted issues related to training, staffing, and resource availability and discussed their resultant effect on animal welfare. The participants described the importance of built and sustained trust in their jobs, both with each other and with the non-human animals under their care. While the Zoo’s motto is “One TZ”, the participants noted conflict between the public’s perception of the Toronto Zoo and how the organization cares for its staff. The additive effects of mental and physical exhaustion have led to disengagement from activities that once brought joy and difficulty staying focused while at work and home. The findings will enable the Toronto Zoo to provide comprehensive mental health support for their staff and allow participants, researchers, partner organizations, and the general public to discover more about compassion fatigue in the hope that the lessons learned will last a lifetime.

The SSGSA STEM Sustainability Case Competition is an annual research case competition hosted by undergraduate students from the STEM Students Guelph Support Association (SSGSA). The mission of this competition is to provide University of Guelph undergraduate students with an opportunity to develop their own research proposal while gaining valuable experience in innovative thinking and critical research analysis. Each year students, in teams of up to three are paired with an experienced mentor to develop and present a novel research proposal aligning with the competition’s theme. During the competition, students are taught fundamental principles outlining three lab techniques which they could write about in their proposal. The theme of the competition this year was Genetic Engineering, and competitors learned about CRISPR-Cas9, CAR T-cell therapy, and PCR. In the 2022-2023 SSGSA STEM Sustainability Case Competition over 100 participants submitted abstracts for judgment, and we present the Top 20 winning submissions to be read by you in our competition abstract booklet. We hope you enjoy reading this year’s best abstract submissions and encourage you to participate in the growing SSGSA community as we strive to encourage interest in novel scientific research fields surrounding STEM.

In this paper, certain new results concerning the maximum modulus of the polar derivative and the generalized polar derivative of a polynomial with restricted zeros are obtained. These estimates strengthen some well known inequalities for polynomial due to Tur n, Rather and Dar, Rather, Ali, Shafi and Dar and others.

Surgical site infection (SSI) is a devastating complication in patients with neuromuscular scoliosis (NMS) undergoing posterior spinal instrumented fusion (PSIF) for progressive scoliosis. Incisional negative pressure wound therapy (INPWT) has been used in other surgical fields to reduce SSI. Our purpose was to examine the prophylactic use of INPWT after NMS surgery to decrease SSI. At a single institution, 71 consecutive patients with NMS underwent PSIF from 2015 to 2019. Starting in 2017, all patients with NMS received INPWT postoperatively until discharge. Rates of deep SSI were compared between the two cohorts of patients. Additionally, patient demographic and operative factors such as American Society of Anesthesiologists score, number of levels instrumented, need for an anterior spinal release, need for spinal fusion to pelvis, blood loss, operative time, fluoroscopy time, length of stay, and transfusion requirement were analyzed for potential influence on deep SSI. There was no significant difference in deep SSI rates between patients who received INPWT (2 of 41) and those treated with a standard postoperative dressing (2 of 30; P =1.0). Although INPWT theoretically can stabilize the wound environment and prevent deep SSI, our findings do not support this. More research is needed to evaluate the efficacy of INPWT after PSIF for NMS. This study discusses the factors that could influence political participation among youth. The purpose of this study is to look at the impact of the main factors (such as the influence of social environment and mass media) on youth political participation. A total of 343 youths participated in this study, with a response rate of 90.5%. Findings from multiple linear regression demonstrate that the influence of social environment and the influence of mass media have a substantial influence on political participation. Studies on the influence of political participation among the youth, particularly in Malaysia, are vital yet scarce. Significantly, the findings of this study can provide insight to political parties on the importance of youth political participation. Finally, this study provides practical implications for youth political participation.

Lung cancer is a public health problem in the world, en 2020: 2nd most common cancer after breast cancer. Smoking is the main risk factor constituting an essential axis of prevention. Non-small cell lung cancer is the most common histological component representing approximately 85%, currently 75% of patients have unfortunately become at advanced stages, the prognosis remains poor: incidence and expectation are close, but metastatic NSCLC has experienced a total renewal of the therapeutic arsenal. It is a model of precision medicine and also in particular a model for immunotherapy. We are recently faced with an expanded therapeutic arsenal posing a problem of choice. with a durable complete response with Atezolizumab.

The Egyptian cotton leafworm Spodoptera littoralis (Boisduval) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) is a pervasive agricultural polyphagous insect pest. Because of the negative side-effects of conventional pesticides used in agricultural fields, safer alternatives for insect pest management are required. We evaluated here susceptibility, biological features, and nutritional indices of S. littoralis after treatment of 4th-instar larvae with the neonicotinoid imidacloprid and the spinosyn spinosad separately or in combination. Larvae were fed for three successive days on treated leaves of castor-bean Ricinus communis using leaf-dip technique (treatment period). In addition, in case of nutritional indices study, treated leaves were replaced by fresh untreated leaves for two successive days (recovery period). Spinosad was more toxic than imidacloprid, and their combination revealed additive effects based on the co-toxicity factor. Individual and combined treatments significantly decreased pupation rate, adult emergence rate, pupal weight, number of eggs laid per female, egg-hatch, and female longevity, compared to those of controls. Pupal and adult malformations were recorded. During the treatment period, nutritional indices were insecticide- and time-dependent. On the 2nd day of recovery, all nutritional indices of treated larvae were not significantly different, compared to those of controls. The results presented herein may help in developing more effective crop protection methodologies within integrated pest management of this insect.

Screen-printing and spray-coating methods were used to produce photoluminescent, water-repellent, and antimicrobial films on textile fibers. The cotton fabrics were firstly finished with a flame-resistant agent. There are a number of functional agents that have been applied during the textile finishing process, including strontium aluminate pigment as antibacterial and photoluminescent agent, flame-retardant organophosphate, and water-repellent silicone rubber. The current research investigated the surface morphologies and chemical compositions of the screen-printed and spray-coated fabric cottons using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), energy-dispersive X-ray (EDX), wavelength dispersive X-ray fluorescence (WDXRF), and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR). According to morphological analysis, the phosphor nanoparticles had sizes ranging from 2 to 12 nm. After excitation at 399 nm, the generated colorless photoluminescent layer deposited onto cotton surface showed an emission profile at 516 nm. The luminescence spectra and CIE Lab characteristics confirmed that the phosphor-coated textiles displayed a white color in visible spectrum and green emission in the presence of UV light. It has been shown by analysis that the tested colors are very stable over time. The measurements of static water contact and sliding angles were also explored. The self-extinguishing activity of the coated fabrics retained their flame-retardant properties over 24 laundry cycles. Antimicrobial activity, hydrophobicity, and luminous properties were improved without affecting the intrinsic physical and mechanical features of the treated textiles. Details on the CIE Lab colorimetric measurements were discussed. The stiffness and air permeability were examined to explore the flexibility and breathability of the treated textile fibers. Excellent reversibility and photostability were seen in the phosphor-coated materials.

In baseline trachoma prevalence surveys, six districts in two governorates of Yemen were identified as requiring interventions. We set out to estimate the prevalence of trachoma 6−12 months after one round of antibiotic mass drug administration (MDA) and implementation of measures to encourage facial cleanliness. A population-based prevalence survey was conducted in each of the four evaluation units in October 2019. Contemporary World Health Organization recommendations for trachoma surveys were followed. Participants were selected using a two-stage cluster sampling process. The prevalence of inflammatory and late-stage trachoma was measured through eye examination. To increase solubility and anticancer efficacy, a new oil in water (O/W) nanoemulsion (NE) was used in the formulation of the analogue. The novel formula’s surface charge, size, stability, FTIR, FE-TEM, in vitro drug release and physical characteristics were investigated. Furthermore, molecular docking studies were conducted to predict the possible binding modes and molecular interactions behind the inhibitory activities of the THD and TA.Results: TA showed a significant cytotoxic activity with IC50 ranging from 0.326 to 43.26 μmol/mL when evaluated against cancerous cells such as MCF-7, HepG2, Caco-2, LNCaP and RKO cell lines. The loaded analogue showed more potential cytotoxicity against MDA-MB-231 and MCF-7-ADR cell lines with IC50 values of 0.0293 and 0.0208 nmol/mL, respectively. Moreover, flow cytometry of cell cycle analysis and apoptosis were performed showing a suppression in the expression levels of TGF-β, MCL-1, VEGF, TNF-α, STAT3 and IL-6 in the MDA-MB-231 cell line.Conclusion: The novel NE formula dramatically reduced the anticancer dosage of TA from micromolar efficiency to nanomolar efficiency. Background: Chia seed is an oil-seed of multiple biological activities. Doxorubicin is an effective chemotherapy for liver cancer. Resistance and adverse effects are doxorubicin limitations. Objective: This study aimed to investigate the effect of chia seeds oil (CSO) on the resistance of HepG2 cells to liposomal-doxorubicin (DOX). Methods: The objective were investigated through measuring cytotoxicity, doxorubicin-metabolizing enzyme Cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP-3A4), multidrug resistance-associated protein (MRP1), and the expression of multiple tumor suppressor microRNAs. Results: The findings indicated that low concentration of CSO increased HepG2 cells sensitivity to DOX as concluded from its higher cytotoxicity. DOX induced mRNAs of CYP-3A4 and MRP1 and their protein levels. CSO inhibited both in DOX-treated cells. CSO induced tumor suppressor miRNAs. Doxorubicin inhibited miR-122 and let-7/b/e expression, while it led to overexpression of let-7a. CSO/DOX upregulated let-7/b/e, miR-34a, and miR-122 (which inhibits MRP1) and downregulated let-7a that may lead to increased apoptosis. Conclusion: CSO effectively re-sensitized HepG2 cells to liposomal-doxorubicin via inhibiting MRP1 and CYP-3A4 that may increase in vivo doxorubicin bioavailability and decrease its therapeutic dose to diminish its adverse effects.

To report speech outcomes after cochlear implantation (CI) for asymmetric hearing loss (AHL) and assess the influence of contralateral hearing.Retrospective review.Tertiary referral center.One hundred eighty-eight adults (mean age, 70 yr) undergoing CI for AHL from 2015 to 2020. Candidacy included pure-tone average (PTA) at least 70 dB hearing level and AzBio in quiet 60% or less in the implanted ear and AzBio in quiet greater than 40% in the contralateral ear.PTA; Consonant-Nucleus-Consonant (CNC) word, AzBio sentences scores; Speech, Spatial, and Qualities of Hearing Scale (SSQ).Mean preoperative PTA and AzBio in the implanted and contralateral ears were 85.2 and 68.1 dB hearing level and 24.7% and 69.2%, respectively. Mean CNC in the implanted ear increased from 18.3% preoperatively to 44.4% ( p0.0001) at 6 months and 49.3% ( p0.0001) at 12 months. Mean AzBio in the implanted ear improved from 24.7% preoperatively to 60.3% ( p0.0001) at 6 months and 64.3% ( p0.0001) at 12 months. Patients demonstrated significant improvement in all SSQ domains at 6 and 12 months. When comparing patients with preoperative contralateral AzBio greater than 60% versus 41% to 60%, no significant differences existed in postoperative CNC scores (6-mo: 47% versus 41%, p = 0.276; 12-mo: 51% versus 47%, p = 0.543). There were no significant differences in 6-month ( p = 0.936) or 12-month ( p = 0.792) CNC scores between patients with AHL (contralateral ear AzBio40%) and 169 unilateral CI patients meeting the traditional Medicare criteria (contralateral ear AzBio ≤40%).CI recipients with AHL derive significant speech improvements, supporting individual ear consideration for CI candidacy and patient benefit outside of current Medicare criteria.
