Acute kidney injury (AKI) commonly occurs in patients with decompensated cirrhosis. Urinary neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (uNGAL) could help discriminate between different etiologies of AKI. The aim of this study was to investigate the use of uNGAL in (1) the differential diagnosis of AKI, (2) predicting the response to terlipressin and albumin in patients with hepatorenal syndrome-AKI (HRS-AKI), and (3) predicting in-hospital mortality in patients with AKI.One hundred sixty-two consecutive patients with cirrhosis and AKI were included from 2015 to 2020 and followed until transplant, death, or 90 days. Standard urinary markers and uNGAL were measured. Data on treatment, type, and resolution of AKI were collected. Thirty-five patients (21.6%) had prerenal AKI, 64 (39.5%) HRS-AKI, 27 (16.7%) acute tubular necrosis-AKI (ATN-AKI), and 36 (22.2%) a mixed form of AKI. Mean values of uNGAL were significantly higher in ATN-AKI than in other types of AKI (1162 ng/ml [95% CI 423-2105 ng/ml] vs. 109 ng/ml [95% CI 52-192 ng/ml]; p 0.001). uNGAL showed a high discrimination ability in predicting ATN-AKI (area under the receiver operating characteristic curve, 0.854; 95% CI 0.767-0.941; p 0.001). The best-performing threshold was found to be 220 ng/ml (sensitivity, 89%; specificity, 78%). The same threshold was independently associated with a higher risk of nonresponse (adjusted OR [aOR], 6.17; 95% CI 1.41-27.03; p = 0.016). In multivariable analysis (adjusted for age, Model for End-Stage Liver Disease, acute-on-chronic liver failure, leukocytes, and type of AKI), uNGAL was an independent predictor of in-hospital mortality (aOR, 1.74; 95% CI 1.26-2.38; p = 0.001).uNGAL is an adequate biomarker for making a differential diagnosis of AKI in cirrhosis and predicting the response to terlipressin and albumin in patients with HRS-AKI. In addition, it is an independent predictor of in-hospital mortality.

Foi construído um acessório vestível e um circuito externo com um alarme, para detectar de forma automática a queda de um idoso, e permitir, também, que ele utilize um botão de emergência em uma situação urgente. Caso uma queda ocorra, um alarme é disparado através de um buzzer e um LED é aceso. O dispositivo foi avaliado em quatro situações: queda, deambular, sentar e deitar, e teve êxito nos resultados em todos os casos avaliados. Já o botão de emergência, sempre que pressionado, acionou o buzzer e acendeu o LED. Conclui-se que o sistema de alerta implementado está com todos os seus parâmetros perfeitamente calibrados, é confiável, e funcionou para todas as situações analisadas, disparando o alarme apenas nas situações de queda, o que corrobora o fato de que essa tecnologia deve ser cada vez mais empregada no auxílio e na melhoria da qualidade de vida dos idosos.

Microcystin, a cyanotoxin produced by Microcystis aeruginosa growing in eutrophic waters, can promote liver tumors in people ingesting contaminated water. To date, water treatment systems have not been effective in removing or degrading these cyanotoxins. In this work, we investigated the inhibitory activity of surfactants on the growth of M. aeruginosa and their application to extract the intracellular produced cyanotoxins. The experiments involving growth inhibition and extraction of cyanotoxins were carried out using the non-biodegradable surfactant cetyl trimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB) in addition to other biodegradable surfactants. These were Tween 80 and surfactants derived from amino acids and peptides, respectively, from arginine, SDA, and hydrolyzed peptone, SDP. We demonstrated that the tested surfactants could be used to inhibit the growth of M. aeruginosa. At this point, CTAB and SDA proved to be the most competent surfactants in reducing cyanobacterial growth. Moreover, microcystins have been successfully removed from the water employing a cloud point extraction protocol based on the use of these surfactants and ammonium sulfate.

PurposeThis paper analyzes managerial practices currently used for outsourced logistics activities in mechanized cutting, loading and transportation (CLT) of sugarcane in a Brazilian company using performance-based logistics contracts (PBL) as reference.Design/methodology/approachThe methodology draws on literature review, design of an analysis model, small group meetings with academics/industry professionals and practical application through a case study. The model is based on PBL and its construction involved choosing the analysis axes, defining evaluation items and respective measurement scale and the means and sources of data collection.FindingsWhen comparing the evaluation results with PBL recommendations, it is possible to see that there are still many improvement opportunities. In contracting axis, decision-making process was poor-rated due to the absence of strategic considerations to support outsourcing decision. Procurement, contract and implementation are in intermediate level. Performance management is the most mature axis. However, quality analysis showed intermediate level. In relationship axis, the most relevant gap is the lack of expectations alignment. Remaining items showed intermediate levels of compliance but still need focusing on communication, establishing a structured relationship management development.Originality/valueThis study contributes first to develop an analysis model based on PBL to evaluate the level of relationship integration between company and logistics service provider, and second, to apply the model to an empirical case in a CLT company operation. As a result, the analysis model presents guidelines for the company, not to just contract/rent equipment and manpower but hire results.

A fim de reduzir o tempo de entrega, otimizar o uso da frota, agilizar os fluxos logísticos e oferecer serviços especializados, as empresas atribuem à terceiros o gerenciamento de suas atividades logísticas. No entanto, a experiência da terceirização para algumas empresas parece não ter surtido o efeito desejado. Em algumas situações, tem-se observado uma tendência de reversão na decisão de terceirizar as atividades logísticas, processo esse denominado re-insourcing. Embora o re-insourcing esteja sendo realizado, ainda não são totalmente claras as razões que motivam essa mudança estratégica nas organizações. Este trabalho tem como objetivo identificar as razões que levam as organizações a interromperem a terceirização das atividades logísticas e realizar o re-insourcing. Para tanto, um estudo de casos múltiplos foi conduzido em uma montadora de veículos comerciais e em uma montadora de tratores para agricultura e construção civil. O resultado deste estudo indicou que o principal fator motivador para a realização do re-insourcing foi o baixo desempenho apresentado pelos operadores logísticos, causado pela alta rotatividade da mão de obra terceirizada, baixa produtividade e nível de qualidade dos serviços prestados abaixo do esperado.

On 6 March 2020, a big fire in a village forced the firefighters to draw water simultaneously from many sources, including the Adige river. From 9 March, an increasing number of inhabitants reported gastrointestinal symptoms. We describe the outbreak and the challenges linked to the concurrent COVID-19 spread.Residents with enteric symptoms and their relatives were interviewed and samples from some of the patients and public water pipelines were tested for enteric pathogens with microbiological and molecular methods.By 20 March, 182 people reported symptoms and 131 met the case definition. Norovirus GI/GII and other pathogens were found in human and water samples.Contamination of the public water network with sewage-contaminated river water through the firefighters pressurized water tank was the suspected source of the outbreak. The investigation was partly hampered due to the SARS-CoV-2 emergency. Control measures included avoiding tap water, alternative water supplies and chlorination of public water.

With globalization, logistics has assumed a key role in the planning, organizing and controlling of movement of products around the world. This has caused significant impacts on sustainability, especially with operations involving road freight transport. In order to measure the real impacts of this activity and make decisions aligned with sustainability, logistics planners must use methods that consider the economic, environmental and social dimensions. Existing methods for assessing the impacts do not consider these dimensions together, which precludes a complete view of the effects of road freight transport on sustainability. The objective of this paper is to propose a method for assessing the impacts of road freight transport on all three dimensions of sustainability. For this purpose, the main quantitative indicators were identified, a scale was established to classify the impact intensity and the form of the results presentation was defined. Finally, a case study was carried out in a large Brazilian sugar-energy company to verify the method’s applicability. The results showed that the evaluated truck fleets had significant impacts on all dimensions. The proposed method allows companies to have an overall vision of the impacts on sustainability, enabling the identification of impacts with higher intensity and consequently contributing to decision-making processes to mitigate them. This paper also advances sustainable logistics theory by encouraging the development of new research involving logistics and the three dimensions of sustainability.

Por possuirem um amplo espectro de energia, que engloba algumas centenas de MeV a energias na ordem de TeV, esses neutrinos são bons objetos no teste de novas teorias, bem como no estudo do fenômeno de oscilação de neutrinos, onde há mudança do estado de sabor do neutrino para outro. Além disso, neutrinos atmosféricos constituem o ruído de fundo na calibração de telescópios de neutrinos astrofísicos e na busca por processos raros, o que nos motiva a estudar como se dá sua produção e evolução na atmosfera. Desse modo, buscamos determinar o fluxo de neutrinos atmosféricos através das reações básicas de criação dos mesmos por interações fracas e dos processos de absorção e espalhamento das partículas-mães carregadas, como píons e múons, gerados pela interação de prótons, principal constituinte dos raios cósmicos, com a atmosfera. Para isso, procederemos a resolver sistemas de equações de cascatas que relacionam termos sumidouros e fonte das partículas do fluxo para obtermos sua evolução até a superfície terrestre, de modo a incluir as características da atmosfera e geometria de incidência do feixe de partículas primárias, avaliando a consistência dos cálculos e comparando-os com resultados presentes na literatura. Feito isso, estenderemos o resultado incluindo um decaimento exótico, que não existe no Modelo Padrão, para ver se podemos testá-lo em experimentos de neutrinos atmosféricos Abstract: Atmospheric neutrinos are produced by interactions of cosmic rays with the Earth¿s atmosphere that create unstable secondary particles which weakly decay into neutrinos. Because of its wide energy spectrum, that covers energies of few hundred of MeV until energies on the order of TeV, these neutrinos are good objects on the test of new theories as well as the study of neutrino oscillation phenomenon where there is a change in the state of neutrino flavour to another. In addition, atmospheric neutrinos constitute background and calibration beam for astrophysical neutrino telescopes and the search for rare processes, which motivates us to study how is its production and evolution in the atmosphere. In this way, we want to determine the flux of atmospheric neutrinos through the basic reactions of its creation by weak interactions and the processes of absorption and scattering of charged parent particles, as pions and muons, generated by the interaction of protons, main constituent of cosmic rays with the atmosphere. For this, we will solve cascade equations that relate source and sink terms of the particle flux to obtain its evolution until the earth surface, including the atmosphere characteristics and geometry of primary particle incidence beam, evaluating the consistency of the calculations and comparing them with the results found in the literature. Inicialmente, apresentamos a teoria necessária referente a processos multifractais, destacando o conceito de expoente de Hõlder. Em seguida, focalizamos nossa atenção na estimação dos momentos de segunda ordem para processos multifractais. Mais especificamente, assumimos que um modelo exponencial é adequado para representar a variância do processo sob diferentes escala de agregação. Dessa forma comparamos o desempenho da abordagem proposta com algumas outras abordagens (por exemplo, métodos baseados em monofractal, MSQ {Multi-Scale Queué) e CDTSQ {Criticai Dyadic Time-Scale Queue))usando traços de tráfegos reais. Além tusso, com base nos resultados da análise acima, propusemos uma nova estratégia de controle de admissão que leva em conta as características multifractais do tráfego. Comparamos a estratégia de controle de admissão proposta com outros métodos de controle de admissão amplamente utilizado na literatura (por exemplo, MVA, Perda Virtual e Capacidade Equivalente). Os resultados das simulações mostram que a proposta de estimação de probabilidade de perda é simples e precisa, e a estratégia de controle de admissão proposta é robusta e eficiente. Abstract: The present work proposes an analytical expression for estimating the byte loss probability at a single server queue with multifractal traffic arrivals. Initially we address the theory concerning multifractal processes, especially the Holder exponents of the multifractal traffic traces. Next, we focus our attention on the second order statistics for multifractal traffic processes. More specifically, we assume that an exponential model is adequate for representing the variance of the traffic process under different time scale aggregation. Then, we compare the performance of the proposed approach with some other relevant approaches (e.g., monofractal based methods, MSQ (multi-scale queue) and CDTSQ (Critical dyadic time-scale queue)) using real traffic traces. In addition, based on the results of the analysis we proposed a new admission control strategy that takes into account the multifractal traffic characteristics. We compare the proposed admission control strategy with some other widely used admission control methods (e.g,.MVA ,Virtual Loss and Equivalent Capacity). The simulation results show that the proposed loss probability estimation method is simple and accurate, and the proposed admission control strategy is robust and efficient. Introduction: The growing number of older people and the increasing burden of non-communicable diseases highlight the need for the integration between social and health services. To ensure high quality home care, common and consistent standards are essential. Our aim is to develop a validated accreditation tool for home care.Description: An integrated home care accreditation tool was developed including 26 standards and 144 items divided into six domains: Organization&Governance, Patient Safety&Risk Management, Professionals knowledge, Skills&Competences, Information&Communication, Care Integration, and Improvement&Innovation. Expert evaluation was conducted between August and November 2019; relevance and feasibility (RF) and expert agreement were analyzed.Discussion: A total of 21 experts participated in the validation process, with a response rate of 53%. A good RF score and agreement were obtained for 70% of the items and 65% of the standards. The best scores were obtained forIndividualized care project(RF 8.4, agreement 100%),Integrated care pathways(RF 7.5, agreement 81%),Access to the integrated health and social care system(RF 8.1, agreement 86%), andMultidimensional assessment of needs(RF 8.1, agreement 86%).Conclusion: The existence of an integrated health and social care accreditation tool would help to improve the quality of home care, and make patients’ quality of life better and safer.

In practice, this means that data fromsurface liquid argon time projection chambers will be dominated by cosmic particles, both as a source of event triggers and as the majority of the particle count in true neutrino-triggered events. In this work, we demonstrate a novel application of deep learning techniques to remove these background particles by applying deep learning on full detector images from the SBND detector, the near detector in the Fermilab Short-Baseline Neutrino Program. Em se tratando de decaimento de neutrinos, mostramos que o modelo escolhido acomoda razoavelmente os resultados da chamada Anomalia do Short-baseline, conduzida pelos experimentos LSND e MiniBooNE, e evade vínculos fortes da busca pelo sinal de desaparecimento de neutrinos muônicos em experimentos com neutrinos de aceleradores detectados a curta distância Abstract: In the context of neutrino oscillations and neutrino physics, we aimed to study phenomenological implications in short-baseline neutrino experiments. Specifically, we chose two work subjects: neutrinos in Large Extra Dimensions (LED) and heavy neutrino decay. We analyzed the effects of the LED model in the future Short-Baseline Neutrino Program experiment. We showed that the experiment has a competitive sensitivity to LED manifestation and can discriminate LED hypothesis from the 3+1 oscillation model. A high diversity of compounds in EOs and EO mixtures can increase their toxicity. Additionally, EOs can be useful in insecticide resistance programs. For this reason, we evaluated the fumigant toxicity and repellent effects of six essential oils (Dysphania ambrosioides, DA; Pelargonium graveolens, PE; Piper arboreum, PA; Piper diospyrifolium, PD; Piper gaudichaudianum, PG; and Piper tuberculatum, PT) separately and in binary combinations against adults of Sitophilus zeamais (the maize weevil). First, the insecticidal activity of all possible combinations of the six EOs were assessed. Next, the concentrations needed to cause 50% and 90% mortality (LC50 and LC90, respectively) in the S. zeamais population were determined for the most toxic EOs and mixtures. After that, the synergistic effect of the mixtures was also verified. Finally, the most toxic treatments were assessed to determine the time required to cause mortality of 50% of the population and check the repellent effects on S. zeamais. The binary mixtures of DA and PE, PT, PG, PD, and PA were the most toxic against S. zeamais. The LC50 and LC90 values for these treatments ranged between 1.77 and 2.25 μL L−1 and from 2.42 to 7.64 μL L−1, respectively. The mixtures were more toxic than the EOs tested separately, which indicates the occurrence of synergistic effects. All treatments caused mortality of 50% of the population of S. zeamais in less than 42 h of exposure. In addition, the combinations DA + PE, DA + PT, DA + PG, and DA + PA were repellent to S. zeamais. Based on these results, we conclude that the mixtures of EOs evaluated in this study are highly promising for the control of S. zeamais populations and can also be used for resistance management of this species. SUMMARYRecently, organic farming systems have attracted the attention of consumers because of their low environmental impact. Organic agriculture is a valid alternative to conventional farming and ancient wheat, such as KAMUT® khorasan wheat (T. turgidum ssp. turanicum), has emerged as an industry leader for its nutritional and functional properties (anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and prebiotic).The aim of the present study was to evaluate environmental effects on the quality of KAMUT® khorasan grains harvested in the last two decades (1989–2012) on one farm in Montana (USA), through the evaluation of phytochemical accumulation. Results revealed high variability in the amounts of macronutrients and nutraceuticals. In particular, from 1989 to 2012, there was a decreasing trend in starch content (ranging from 70·87 to 50·54/100 g) and amylose (from 41·48 to 31·46% of total starch) with a slight increase of insoluble dietary fibre (from 12·14 to 17·75/100 g). The soluble dietary fibre content varied among the years of cultivation even if the general trend remained constant (4·57–2·82/100 g). High variability of total polyphenols content was observed with the free soluble fraction present at lower levels than bound polyphenols (BP). Moreover, an inverse correlation between free and BP was observed. The results obtained in the present study show that the influence of environmental conditions plays a fundamental role in the accumulation of primary and secondary metabolites in wheat kernels and strongly modulate the nutritional and nutraceutical value of flour.

Background/objectives Khorasan wheat is an ancient grain with widely acclaimed beneficial effects on human health. The objective of the study was to examine the effect of a Khorasan-based diet on the wellbeing and inflammatory profile of young athletes. Results We conducted a randomized, single-blinded crossover trial involving 20 male young athletes. The participants were randomly assigned to consume products (pasta, bread, biscuits and crackers) made either with Khorasan (KAMUT® brand) or modern semi-whole-grain wheat for 4-weeks with a 4-week washout period before the crossover. Laboratory analyses and fitness tests were performed both at the beginning and end of each diet period. The consumption of Khorasan products was associated with a significant reduction of monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 (MCP-1; mean reduction: -36.15 pg/mL; -25.67%) while the consumption of modern wheat was not associated with significant differences in Interleukin-8 (IL-8) or Interleukin-1 receptor antagonist (IL-1ra). The consumption of the Khorasan-based diet also resulted in a significant improvement in self-rated health status. No statistically significant differences in any athletic performance parameter were observed between the two diets. Conclusion The present results suggest that a Khorasan-based diet could be effective in reducing the inflammatory status in young athletes. © 2019 Society of Chemical Industry.

We studied a neutrino decay scenario as a potential solution to conciliate the tension between appearance and disappearance data at the short-baseline experiments. Particularly, we considered a heavy neutrino mass-eigenstate that decays into a usual light neutrino plus a massless scalar. Under this neutrino decay hypothesis, we fitted LSND and MiniBooNE electron neutrino appearance data assuming Dirac or Majorana neutrinos. We obtained reasonable results for both cases. Including muon neutrino disappearance searches, and also current bounds on the new decay coupling constant, we noticed that the heavy neutrino decay scenario is compatible as long as 1 MeV $\geq m_4 \geq$ 10 keV. Finally, we showed that the future SBN program at Fermilab has the potential to definitively test the considered decay hypothesis.

In lieu of an abstract, this is the first paragraph of the contribution: This third issue of the Journal of the Austrian Association for American Studies (JAAAS) is a special issue in more ways than one. The idea at its core was to highlight contributions by emerging scholars in American studies at Austrian universities, compiled and arranged by a team of guest editors who are members of Austria’s Young Americanists (AYA)—the graduate network affiliated with the Austrian Association for American Studies (AAAS). Beyond that, the journal itself is likewise young—at the time we began our work, it had just been founded and was still in its conceptual stages. As such, the editing process presented a number of unique challenges in the ambitious process of putting together a special issue. While most jobs in academia are tenuous, with 78% of all scientific jobs at universities being limited term,1 coordinating long-term projects presents an exciting but sometimes unpredictable endeavor, especially at the early career level. G.V.S. thanks the partial support of FERMILAB-UNICAMP exchange agreement Abstract: We explore the hypothesis that the unexplained data from Liquid Scintillator Neutrino Detector (LSND) and MiniBooNE experiments are evidence for a new, heavy neutrino mass-eigenstate that mixes with the muon-type neutrino and decays into an electron-type neutrino and a new, very light scalar particle. We consider two different decay scenarios, one with Majorana neutrinos, one with Dirac neutrinos; both fit the data equally well. We find a reasonable, albeit not excellent, fit to the data of MiniBooNE and LSND. The decaying-sterile-neutrino hypothesis, however, cleanly evades constraints from disappearance searches and precision measurements of leptonic meson decays, as long as 1 MeV greater than or similar to m(4) greater than or similar to 10 keV. Introdução: o uso das redes sociais tem sido massificado com os avanços tecnológicos nas telecomunicações nas últimas cinco décadas. Dos saudosos ICQ® e Orkut®, passamos pelo Facebook® e hoje (2022) o Instagram® se consolidou como a rede social mais utilizada no Brasil, sendo a maior parte de seus usuários jovens entre 16 e 29 anos. As regiões sudeste e nordeste são responsáveis por 45% e 27% dos mais de 124 milhões de usuários no país. Objetivo: analisar os conteúdos veiculados no Instagram brasileiro de posts relativos a grande área das ciências do movimento humano (educação física, nutrição, fisioterapia, treinamento, et.) de influenciadores com pelo menos 20 mil seguidores. Métodos: graduandos do curso de bacharelado em Educação Física em uma cidade de porte médio do interior do estado de São Paulo, escolheram 110 posts no Instagram® relativos ao universo fitness, saúde e qualidade de vida. Foi elaborada uma matriz de tipificação composta por três domínios e suas respectivas facetas. Foram eles: Domínio I, relativo ao nível de consciência subjacente a cada post; suas três facetas: consciência intransitiva; transitiva ingênua e crítica. Domínio II, relativo ao referenciamento de artigos científicos nos posts; suas quatro facetas: não cita referência alguma; cita apenas o(s) autor(es); cita apenas o nome do artigo; cita ambos. Domínio III, relativo à concepção de saúde e qualidade de vida subjacente a cada post; suas três facetas: ingênua; multidisciplinar e transfenomenal. A transcrição literal de alguns posts foi utilizada para dar suporte às reflexões sobre os conteúdos subjacentes aos explícitos nas falas e escritas. Parafrasando un famoso libro di Pirsig viene posta la questione di quale sia la differenza tra un uso puramente operativo della motocicletta/gruppo e una consapevole conoscenza che permette sia di farlo funzionare sia di impegnarsi nel miglioramento della qualita delle sue prestazioni. Cosa significa e in che misura si puo fare manutenzione del gruppo? Come la funzione complessa di osservazione puo aiutarci a fare questo in tempi di crisi? La funzione dialogica dell’osservatore puo promuovere consapevolezza e attenzione alla qualita? Attraverso delle riflessioni e vignette cliniche sull’osservatore silente sottolineiamo la sua triplice funzione: formazione, lettura delle dinamiche interattive, sostegno al lavoro dei terapeuti. Stare nella posizione "sospesa/inquieta" dell’osservatore e necessario per il training del futuro psicoterapeuta, ma pure per il clinico e per chi intenda promuovere la propria soggettivita non solo come individuo ma come Persona Autentica (Lopez).

Apesar do crescente sucesso do transplante hepatico, a rejeicao continua sendo uma complicacao frequente. O papel exato do componente humoral permanece incerto. O presente estudo busca conhecer melhor os mecanismos de rejeicao aguda pos-transplante hepatico e seu comportamento clinico-patologico, procurando fornecer mais informacoes praticas e relevantes para o prognostico, selecionando os pacientes que merecem seguimento mais cuidadoso e condutas distintas.

A Ilha do Cardoso (SP), especialmente na porcao nordeste, se configura como uma area de intensas dinâmicas geomorfologicas costeiras. Desta forma, o presente projeto buscou analisar esses processos atraves da elaboracao de mapeamentos de compartimentacao geomorfologica de detalhe (escala 1:25000), dialogando com a metodologia de Tricart (1965) e trabalhos anteriores efetuados na totalidade da Ilha (Cheliz, 2015). Estes mapas fornecem subsidios para uma discussao e uma analise acerca dos processos e das dinâmicas atuantes na Ilha, resultando em um estudo comparativo sobre as alteracoes da geomorfologia litorânea do setor nordeste. Como resultados, pode-se observar que os processos morfodinâmicos atuantes na Ilha sao as aguas oceânicas, pluviais e fluviais, os ventos e as oscilacoes de mares, os quais moldam o relevo em um ritmo intenso. Por meio da compartimentacao da paisagem, com os mapas geomorfologicos, constatou-se significativas mudancas nas planicies e nas formas individualizadas nesse intervalo de cinco anos, principalmente nos compartimentos em contato direto com o mar. O aumento ou diminuicao das areas de cada setor corroboram a afirmacao de que a Ilha do Cardoso esta constantemente em transformacao, em um ritmo acelerado, devido aos processos morfodinâmicos atuantes no local.

Background Performing accurate anatomical reconstruction is a challenging task in the treatment of internal orbital floor fractures. Compared with traditional transcutaneous incisions, endoscopic transmaxillary approaches have the advantage of avoiding complications related to external scars, and provide direct access to the orbital floor. Autogenous bone provides the ideal material for defect reconstruction, but determination of the correct size and shape of the graft is crucial for a stable support. This study introduces a new protocol for the treatment of internal orbital floor fractures that combines endoscopy, virtual reality, and 3D printing. The authors also investigated the impact of computer-aided surgery (CAS) on the overall accuracy of reconstruction in aiming to achieve the triple objective of restoring anatomy, volume, and function. Materials and methods Fourteen patients with orbital floor fractures were recruited for this study. High-resolution CT scans provided appropriate imaging for detailed orbital floor defect visualization. A virtual reconstruction of the orbital floor defect was developed and a 3D printed template was fabricated to provide intraoperative guidance in the graft harvesting phase, according to the orbital defect. Virtual analyses were conducted to evaluate the accuracy of reconstruction both in terms of graft size and graft orientation. Results Postoperative CT scans showed that in all cases orbital floor reconstruction was successfully performed, resulting in restoration of the correct globe position. No intraoperative complications occurred. Correspondence of graft size was evaluated using color-coded maps and RMSE, while comparison of angular measurements allowed the authors to relate simulated and actual reconstruction. Conclusions Orbital floor reconstruction performed via transmaxillary endoscopy is a safe technique, which allows for detailed visualization of the fracture rim, avoids external scars, and permits an easier reduction of the prolapsed orbital content into the overlying orbital cavity. Virtual planning plays an important role in defining the appropriate geometry of the bone graft and establishing the optimal reconstruction strategy. Our preliminary results indicate that virtual planning and 3D printing should become part of an integrated protocol for the endoscopic treatment of orbital floor fractures.

Peças de reposição são componentes de estoque que satisfazem as necessidades de manutenção nos sistemas industriais. Essas peças são colocadas em uso quando existem falhas ou algum componente necessite ser substituído. O gerenciamento eficaz do estoque de peças de reposição diminui o tempo de inatividade dos equipamentos, reduz os custos associados aos estoques e/ou manutenção e melhora a segurança operacional. A otimização do estoque de peças de reposição em conjunto com as operações de manutenção traz reais benefícios para as empresas. A literatura apresenta dezoito modelos com esse enfoque, cada um com suas peculiaridades, não existindo, no entanto, uma análise conjunta dos mesmos que mostre as vantagens de um sobre o outro e as melhorias a serem abordadas no futuro. O objetivo deste trabalho é analisar estes modelos conjuntamente, destacar os benefícios atribuídos a cada um deles e apresentar as possíveis oportunidades para trabalhos futuros na área.

DUNE has the potential to identify significantly more nu(tau) events than all existing experiments and can use this data sample to nontrivially test the three-massive-neutrinos paradigm by providing complementary measurements to those from nu(e)-appearance nu(mu)-disappearance channels. We further discuss the sensitivity of the nu(tau)-appearance channel to several hypotheses for the physics that may lurk beyond the three-massive-neutrinos paradigm: a nonunitary lepton mixing matrix, the 3 + 1 light neutrinos hypothesis, and the existence of nonstandard neutral-current neutrino interactions. Este artigo traz uma análise sobre a forma como a questão da resistência é tratada por Michel Foucault em suas últimas pesquisas, particularmente na- quelas apresentadas pelo autor nos cursos do Collège de France a partir dos anos 1980. Com o deslocamento do foco de seus estudos para as noções de verdade (dizer-a-verdade) e de governo (condução das condutas), tomadas sempre em sua relação com a constituição do sujeito — esta uma questão per- manente nas investigações foucaultianas, observa-se a formação de uma nova problemática, marcada por questões éticas e políticas. Nesse novo quadro de problemas, tencionamos esclarecer as possíveis relações dos temas da estética da existência e do cinismo, pensados como modo de vida, com a questão mais geral da resistência ao poder.

Neutrino oscillations successfully explain the flavor transitions observed in neutrinos produced in natural sources like the center of the sun and the earth atmosphere, and also from man-made sources like reactors and accelerators. These oscillations are driven by two mass-squared differences, solar and atmospheric, at the sub-eV scale. However, longstanding anomalies at short-baselines might imply the existence of new oscillation frequencies at the eV-scale and the possibility of this sterile state(s) to mix with the three active neutrinos. One of the many future neutrino programs that are expected to provide a final word on this issue is the Short-Baseline Neutrino Program (SBN) at FERMILAB. In this letter, we consider a specific model of Large Extra Dimensions (LED) which provides interesting signatures of oscillation of extra sterile states. We started re-creating sensitivity analyses for sterile neutrinos in the 3+1 scenario, previously done by the SBN collaboration, by simulating neutrino events in the three SBN detectors from both muon neutrino disappearance and electron neutrino appearance. Then, we implemented neutrino oscillations as predicted in the LED model and also we have performed sensitivity analysis to the LED parameters. Finally, we studied the SBN power of discriminating between the two models, the 3+1 and the LED. We have found that SBN is sensitive to the oscillations predicted in the LED model and have the potential to constrain the LED parameter space better than any other oscillation experiment, for $m_{1}^D, 21 pages, 6 figures, 2 tables

The genetic diversity and the potential toxicity of bloom-forming cyanobacteria were studied in four lagoons located in the state of Sao Paulo (Campinas, Limeira and Piracicaba cities). Bloom samples were collected on the water surface and cyanobacterial communities were evaluated using DGGE fingerprinting and 16S rDNA clone library. The amplification of genes encoding secondary metabolites such as microcystin (mcy), anatoxin (ana), cylindrospermopsin (cyr), saxitoxin (sxt), cyanopeptolin (mcn) and aeruginosin (aer) was performed and their production analyzed by LC-MS. The comparison of DGGE banding pattern among the different water samples suggested that some operational taxonomic units (OTUs) in these locations were predominant over others. The 16S rDNA clone libraries sequences matched with nine different known cyanobacterial genera available in NCBI, identified as Anabaena, Brasilonema, Cylindrospermopsis, Limnococcus, Microcystis, Nostoc, Pseudanabaena, Synechococcus and Woronichinia. The lagoons ESALQ2, Taquaral and Limeira had more than 80% of the cyanobacterial community assigned to the genus Microcystis. Genes encoding aeruginosin, cyanopeptolin and microcystin synthetases and saxitoxin synthase were amplified, and LC-MS/MS confirmed the production of aeruginosin, cyanopeptolin and microcystin. Rapid and sensitive methods for the detection of these secondary metabolites, especially toxins, using chemical and molecular tools together, can be used for a faster diagnostic of toxic cyanobacterial blooms.

Cyanobacteria have several advantages as lipid feedstock for biodiesel production compared to microalgae. These benefits include the ability to increase lipid content via genetic manipulation, a high growth rate, nitrogen-fixation and a simpler cell wall, which aids in lipid extraction. Moreover, these bacteria have the capability to convert solar energy into biomass that is two times greater than microalgae and ten times greater than corn and sugar cane. The aim of this study was to optimize the cultivation conditions of Synechococcus sp. PCC7942 and to evaluate the lipid feedstock to generate biodiesel via an enzymatic route. For this purpose, the effect of light intensity (50–150 μmol m − 2 s − 1 ) and the concentration of Na 2 CO 3 (0.5–1.5 g L − 1 ) were studied according to a 2 2 full-factorial design. Under optimized conditions, the biomass productivity (Q P ) of 124.0 ± 3.2 mg L − 1 day − 1 , lipid content of 29.0 ± 2.1% and lipid productivity of 35.9 ± 0.5 mg L − 1 day − 1 were obtained. The fatty acid profile indicated differences when the medium was enriched with Na 2 CO 3 and cultured in high light intensity, resulting in an increase in unsaturated fatty acids, particularly linoleic acid, which accounts for 40% of the fatty acids in Synechococcus sp. PCC7942. The lipid feedstock was characterized and used as feedstock for biodiesel synthesis using Novozym® 435 as a catalyst and ethanol as an acyl acceptor. The biocatalyst was able to form ethyl esters from all of the fatty acids present in the lipid feedstock, attaining a conversion of 97.1%. Analysis of Synechococcus sp. PCC7942 lipids indicated the potential of this cyanobacterium as a biodiesel feedstock. The primary fatty acids of this cyanobacterium were C16–C18, which is suitable for the production of good-quality biodiesel.

A gestão da arborização urbana é de responsabilidade direta dos municípios, ou seja, as prefeituras são encarregadas pelas avaliações, autorizações, plantio, manejo e supressão dos indivíduos arbóreos. O objetivo do trabalho foi analisar os processos de gestão realizados, bem como a situação da arborização viária de 50 cidades do Estado de São Paulo, por meio de aplicação de questionários via telefônica e por e-mail. Em linhas gerais, os centros urbanos analisados mostraram-se bastante deficientes em relação ao planejamento e ao manejo das árvores nas vias públicas, o que indica a necessidade da administração pública dispensar maior atenção ao tema e aumentar os investimentos na área.
