We wish to extend the results of [5-6] to right-Eratosthenes, partially ultra-Sylvester, ultra-stable lines. A useful survey of the subject can be found in [7].

Summary The Swiss National Registry for Primary Immunodeficiency Disorders (PID) was established in 2008, constituting a nationwide network of paediatric and adult departments involved in the care of patients with PID at university medical centres, affiliated teaching hospitals and medical institutions. The registry collects anonymized clinical and genetic information on PID patients and is set up within the framework of the European database for PID, run by the European Society of Immunodeficiency Diseases. To date, a total of 348 patients are registered in Switzerland, indicating an estimated minimal prevalence of 4·2 patients per 100 000 inhabitants. Distribution of different PID categories, age and gender are similar to the European cohort of currently 19 091 registered patients: ‘predominantly antibody disorders’ are the most common diseases observed (n = 217/348, 62%), followed by ‘phagocytic disorders’ (n = 31/348, 9%). As expected, ‘predominantly antibody disorders’ are more prevalent in adults than in children (78 versus 31%). Within this category, ‘common variable immunodeficiency disorder’ (CVID) is the most prevalent PID (n = 98/217, 45%), followed by ‘other hypogammaglobulinaemias’ (i.e. a group of non-classified hypogammaglobulinaemias) (n = 54/217, 25%). Among ‘phagocytic disorders’, ‘chronic granulomatous disease’ is the most prevalent PID (n = 27/31, 87%). The diagnostic delay between onset of symptoms and diagnosis is high, with a median of 6 years for CVID and more than 3 years for ‘other hypogammaglobulinaemias’.

TiO2 (B) has attracted considerable attention in recent years because it exhibits the largest capacity among all studied titania polymorphs, with high rate performance for Li intercalation being achieved when this material is nanostructured. However, due to the complex nature of its lithiation mechanism and practical challenges in probing Li structure in nanostructured materials, a definitive understanding of the lithiation thermodynamics has yet to be established. A comprehensive mechanistic investigation of the TiO2 (B) nanoparticles is therefore presented using a combination of in situ / operando X-ray pair distribution function (PDF) and electrochemical techniques. The discharge begins with surface reactions in parallel with Li insertion into the sub-surface of the nanoparticles. The Li bulk insertion starts with a single-phase reaction into the A2 site, a position adjacent to the b-channel. A change of the Li diffusion pathway from that along this open channel to that along the c-direction is likely to occur at the composition of Li0.25TiO2 until Li0.5TiO2 is attained, leading to a two-step A2-site incorporation with one step kinetically distinct from the other. Subsequent Li insertion involves the C’ site, a position situated inside the channel, and follows a rapid two-phase reaction to form Li0.75TiO2. Due to the high diffusion barrier associated with the further lithiation, Li insertion into the A1 site, another position adjacent to the channel neighboring the A2 sites, is kinetically restricted. This study not only explores the lithiation reaction thermodynamics and mechanisms of nanoparticulate TiO2 (B), but also serves as a strong reference for future studies of the bulk phase, and for future calculations to study the Li transport properties of TiO2 (B).

The antihyperlipidaemic effect of a guar preparation which absorbs a particularly large amount of water has been examined in 13 patients with Type II hyperlipidaemia. A 30-day pre-treatment phase was followed by 60 days of treatment with 4 g guar dissolved in 200-ml liquid at each meal-time (total guar 12 g/day), and a 60-day post-treatment observation period. Routine other clinical blood tests were performed 30, 15 or 0 days before treatment, 15, 30 and 60 days after the start of treatment, and 30 and 60 days after its end. Total cholesterol fell by 0.85 mmol.l-1, from a pre-treatment concentration of 7.4 mmol.l-1 to a treatment value of 6.5 mmol.l-1, and LDL-cholesterol fell by 0.64 mmol.l-1, from 5.5 mmol.l-1 to a treatment value of 4.8 mmol.l-1. There was no significant change in triglyceride and VLDL concentrations during the study. A slight but significant fall in HDL-cholesterol was seen. The sole adverse effect was occasional intestinal discomfort.

We report the synthesis and the optoelectronic characterization of three new 4H-pyran-4-ylidene and thiazole derivatives (pyt) as metal-free organic dyes for solid-state dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). We investigate the performance and the long-term stability of devices employing pyt dyes functionalized with carboxylic and phosphonic acids as TiO2 anchoring groups. In contrast to reports on liquid electrolyte DSSCs, we show that solid-state DSSCs prepared with phosphoric pyt derivatives can achieve similar power conversion efficiency to their carboxyl analogues. We make use of the Mott-Schottky analysis and equivalent circuit models to demonstrate that a phosphonic group induces a significant increase in built-in voltage at the TiO2-hole transporter interface, which results in a higher open circuit voltage., AA has received funding from the European Union’s Seventh Framework Programme for research, technological development and demonstration under grant agreement no. 291771.
