Introdução: As fraturas do dente do áxis são lesões frequentes da coluna cervical. Há uma crescente prevalência de traumas de alta energia e de quedas da própria altura, sobretudo em pacientes acima de 65 anos, nos quais a mortalidade é maior. A tipo II, considerada a mais frequente e instável, consiste na fratura do colo do dente do áxis e pode causar compressão medular cervical. Objetivo: Conhecer os principais tratamentos para a fratura tipo II do dente do áxis. Métodos: Foram investigados, de abril a maio de 2022, no PubMed/Medline e na Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde, a combinação dos descritores ‘’Odontoid Processes’’ AND (‘’treatment’’ OR “therapeutics”) AND “spinal fractures’’. Resultados: A partir da análise bibliográfica dos nove artigos, foram encontrados tratamentos cirúrgicos e tratamentos conservativos para a fratura tipo II do dente do áxis. De início, no pré-operatório, pode-se realizar a tração cervical, de modo a realinhar a coluna e aumentar as chances da fusão óssea. Para imobilização externa, o colete Halo é indicado, apesar de não promover a união óssea. Como tratamento alternativo, o colar cervical rígido proporciona estabilização da coluna cervical, mas também não resulta na união óssea. No âmbito cirúrgico, o tratamento mais recorrente é a fixação anterior do parafuso, que visa proporcionar união óssea. Quando esta última é inviável, opta-se pela fixação posterior do parafuso, que garante uma fusão óssea estável pela inserção de um parafuso temporário. Em casos de deslocamento dorsal da coluna, é realizada a fusão occipitocervical. Conclusão: Os principais tratamentos cirúrgicos para a fratura tipo II do dente do áxis são fixação anterior ou posterior de parafuso, fusão occipitocervical e odontoidectomia transoral. Quanto aos tratamentos conservativos, são abordados os equipamentos de estabilização, como o colar cervical rígido e o colete Halo a fim de realizar uma imobilização externa e tração cervical.

RationalePost-coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) survivors frequently have dyspnoea that can lead to exercise intolerance and lower quality of life. Despite recent advances, the pathophysiological mechanisms of exercise intolerance in the post-COVID-19 patients remain incompletely characterised. The objectives of the present study were to clarify the mechanisms of exercise intolerance in post-COVID-19 survivors after hospitalisation.MethodsThis prospective study evaluated consecutive patients previously hospitalised due to moderate-to-severe/critical COVID-19. Within mean±sd90±10 days of onset of acute COVID-19 symptoms, patients underwent a comprehensive cardiopulmonary assessment, including cardiopulmonary exercise testing with earlobe arterialised capillary blood gas analysis.Measurements and main results87 patients were evaluated; mean±sdpeak oxygen consumption was 19.5±5.0 mL·kg−1·min−1, and the tertiles were ≤17.0, 17.1–22.2 and ≥22.3 mL·kg−1·min−1. Hospitalisation severity was similar among the three groups; however, at the follow-up visit, patients with peak oxygen consumption ≤17.0 mL·kg−1·min−1reported a greater sensation of dyspnoea, along with indices of impaired pulmonary function, and abnormal ventilatory, gas-exchange and metabolic responses during exercise compared to patients with peak oxygen consumption >17 mL·kg−1·min−1. By multivariate logistic regression analysis (receiver operating characteristic curve analysis) adjusted for age, sex and prior pulmonary embolism, a peak dead space fraction of tidal volume ≥29 and a resting forced vital capacity ≤80% predicted were independent predictors of reduced peak oxygen consumption.ConclusionsExercise intolerance in the post-COVID-19 survivors was related to a high dead space fraction of tidal volume at peak exercise and a decreased resting forced vital capacity, suggesting that both pulmonary microcirculation injury and ventilatory impairment could influence aerobic capacity in this patient population.

A administração do ácido acetilsalicílico (AAS) é uma das medidas indicadaspelos médicos em caso de suspeita de infarto agudo do miocárdio. De acordo com os especialistas, o medicamento serve para diminuir a agregação de plaquetas e inibir a formação de coágulos no interior das artérias. O objetivo deste estudo é verificar na literatura o uso do Ácido Acetilsalicílico (AAS) em pessoas cardiopatas e sua possível relação com o aparecimento de úlcera. Trata-se de uma revisão sistemática com base em publicações, dos último cinco anos, que essa temática, extraídas de bases de dados eletrônicas como Scielo, PubMed, Lilacs, BVS, Embase e Medline, em língua inglesa e portuguesa. Dos estudo que se aproximaram do objetivo da pesquisa, muitos não relataram a estreita relação entre o uso AAS e o surgimento de úlcera. Assim, espera-se que este estudo sirva de incentivo para que mais estudos sejam realizados sobre essa temática afim de estabelecer e conhecer se há alguma relação entre o fármaco e a doença.

O objetivo da pesquisa é analisar as relações dos diferentes níveis de desconto no preço, em diferentes níveis de preço, com os construtos injustiça de preço, emoções negativas, comunicação boca a boca negativa, intenção de troca de loja e insatisfação do consumidor. A pesquisa foi desenvolvida em duas fases: a primeira exploratória e na segunda fase, tem-se a pesquisa causal, de caráter experimental. Como resultado, identificam-se diferenças significativas entre os diferentes níveis de desconto no preço para os construtos comunicação boca a boca negativa, intenção de troca de loja e insatisfação.

The aim of this study was primarily to investigate the rates of indicative sexual dysfunction (SD) in the last gestational month and at 24 months postpartum. As a secondary objective, we sought to identify the main factors associated with SD at 24 months. The study sample included 131 women who gave birth in maternity wards at two public hospitals in southern Brazil between the period of October 2018 and April 2019. In the first stage (T1), an interview was carried out while the participants were hospitalized, during the immediate postpartum period, based on a clinical record and on the female sexual function questionnaire (Female Sexual Function Index – FSFI). In the second stage (T2), assessments were made via telephone, given the restrictions of the Covid-19 pandemic, 24 months after the initial data collection. At this stage, an updated clinical record was used, followed by the FSFI questionnaire. The final sample consisted of 82 women. Data analysis was performed using descriptive statistics. Data normality was verified using the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test. The chi-square test was used to compare categorical variables in two stages. The Wilcoxon test was used to compare the FSFI score and its domains, both in the last gestational month and at 24 months postpartum. To analyze the correlation of factors associated with the FSFI score, Spearman's test was used. As for sexual function (SF), of the women who were sexually active in the last four weeks of pregnancy (n=33), 39.4% (n=13) indicated SD, while at 24 months postpartum, the percentage was reduced to 20.7% (n=17). There was no statistically significant difference between the total FSFI scores for the two periods observed; however, the analysis of the FSFI domains showed a significant improvement in sexual desire (p=0.01) and a reduction in pain during intercourse (p=0.04) at the 24-month postpartum follow-up. Thus, indications of SD, both in the last month of pregnancy and at 24 months postpartum, can be considered moderate. Furthermore, it was possible to identify factors associated positively, as well as negatively, with SF at 24 months postpartum.

Cell surface carbohydrate antigens sialyl Lewis X (sLeX) and Lewis Y (LeY) are paramount glycoconjugates and are abundantly expressed in the receptive endometrium. Furthermore, among the important biological functions of both antigens is their role in leukocytes adhesion and extravasation. Interleukin-1 beta (IL-1β) is involved in the process of human embryo implantation and placenta development. Here, we used an in vitro model to investigate whether sLeX and LeY are playing a role in the embryo implantation process mediated by IL-1β. Our results are showing that the expression of cell surface sLeX was enhanced in endometrial RL95-2 cells after exposure to IL-1β. RT-qPCR detection indicated that the transcript level of glycosyltransferase gene fucosyltransferase 3 (FUT3) was significantly elevated and that of FUT4/7 and ST3 beta-galactoside alpha-2,3-sialyltransferase 3/4 (ST3GAL3/4) were decreased by treatment with IL-1β. Modulatory role of glycosyltransferase FUT3 on sLeX biosynthesis was determined by FUT3 siRNA transfection in RL95-2 cells. Results showed that the expression level of sLeX was suppressed, but no change was observed in regard to LeY. Moreover, IL-1β promoted the HTR-8/SVneo trophoblast spheroids attachment to the RL95-2 endometrial monolayer, which was partially blocked by anti-sLeX antibody and FUT3 knockdown. Gene expression analysis of the RNA-seq transcriptome data from human secretory endometrium demonstrated a significantly higher level of FUT3 in the mid-secretory phase compared to the early secretory phase, which was correlated with the expression of IL1B. In summary, the inflammatory microenvironment at the fetomaternal interface can regulate the glycosylation pattern of endometrial cells at the time of implantation. SLeX can be significantly induced by IL-1β via increasing FUT3 expression, which facilitates the trophoblast adhesion during embryo implantation.

Nas últimas décadas, o estudo do consumo tem ganhado novas cores a partir de olhares diferenciados. O capitalismo, é o paradigma predominante e acaba por permear as ações das sociedades contemporâneas. O consumo é atacado com preconceito de cultura anti material e ao consumidor é imputada uma responsabilização desproporcional pelos impactos do consumo, especialmente em relação as organizações. Assim, em uma arena com sob a égide de deuses poderosos (grandes corporações), o consumidor foi aprisionado em uma instância de constante julgamento, necessidade de justificação e dever de redenção. Utilizamos uma metáfora que nos auxiliasse no desafio da redenção do consumidor, recorrendo à obra A Divina Comédia, de Dante Alighieri (1265-1321). Propomos a discussão teórica, onde consumo, sua ambiguidade e seus aspectos morais envolvendo trabalho e consumo, são refletidos com base nessa jornada do Ante Purgatório, passando aos pecados: orgulho, inveja, ira, preguiça, avareza, gula e luxuria. A escolha acontece pela influência que a cultura católica exerce no contexto brasileiro, podendo ser útil na construção das pontes que almejamos estabelecer discutindo a culpabilidade imputada ao consumidor versus as possíveis respostas e saídas de cada círculo.

Abordar os temas morte e luto não é tarefa fácil, embora imprescindível para psicólogos. Esses assuntos se tornam ainda mais relevantes em situações de grande crise (como num contexto de pandemia) e, também, quando falamos da morte de pessoas famosas, por conta da comoção gerada pela perda. O luto é um processo comportamental complexo e, em seu tratamento, o indivíduo deverá aceitar a realidade da perda e aprender a viver em um mundo sem a presença física daquela pessoa, entrando em contato com novos reforçadores. A redação deste artigo foi motivada pela triste partida de João Claudio Todorov, analista do comportamento, professor, gestor, divulgador da ciência. Sua trajetória foi e continuará sendo inspiradora a analistas dos comportamentos por muito tempo e, por isso, é brevemente mencionado no artigo em seguir. Esperamos manter contato com seu legado, e que isso continue a influenciar tantos profissionais de nossa área.

PurposeThis paper aims to investigate the effect of product price image (PPI) on perceived value (PV) and repurchase intention (RI) of Brazilian customers' craft beer. Moreover, this research also verifies the moderating effect of customer experience (CE) and price sensitivity.Design/methodology/approachThe survey data analysis was performed using Smart-PLS 3.3.9 and Process 4.1 software with 329 customers.FindingsThe results show that PV is a full mediation variable in the relationship between PPI and RI. As a mediated moderation, lower CE and price sensitivity better explain the indirect effect of PPI on RI via PV.Practical implicationsThus, managers may reinforce the PV of low price sensitivity and low CE. These customers learn about companies' prices compared with higher price-sensitive customers and higher CE that already PV.Originality/valueThe article discusses the implications of PV as a mediator, low price sensitivity and low CE as moderators for craft beer.Highlights The world's most widely consumed alcoholic beverage, following water and tea, the third-most-popular drink on earth is beer;Managers should create strategies to reinforce the PV and consequently the RI by offering PPI and benefits (PV) for customers with low experience and low-price sensitivity about craft beer;Low customer experience and low-price sensitive's customers are learning about companies' prices compared to higher price sensitive, and higher customer experience that already PV, PL, PF, and PEs and NEs;Small producers craft beer that connotated the product's high quality and benefits; the higher may be the level of RI and consumption from customers.

Objetivo: O presente artigo objetiva relatar uma experiência vivenciada pelo grupo de alunos, professores e preceptores do Projeto PET-Saúde/Interprofissionalidade da Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro/Campus Macaé no desenvolvimento de Oficinas Interprofissionais com três equipes de saúde da família atuantes no período da pandemia de COVID-19 no município de Macaé, no ano de 2020. Método: Trata-se de um relato de experiência. O trabalho envolveu as seguintes etapas: I) Caracterizando a APS no município de Macaé no contexto da pandemia de COVID-19; II) Planejamento das Oficinas Interprofissionais em saúde; III) Operacionalização das Oficinas; IV) Reflexões a partir da experiência retratada. Resultados: Os relatos traduzidos em forma de poesia expressaram de forma vívida o impacto de experienciar o trabalho das equipes de saúde da Família através das oficinas desenvolvidas. Reconhecer que a AB é uma linha de frente que precisa ser fortalecida, no sentido da capacitação dos profissionais, suporte técnico e material para realização da identificação de casos novos, bem como orientações para proceder ao isolamento domiciliar, acompanhamento e monitoramento dos contatos, pode fazer uma grande diferença na resposta do sistema de saúde à pandemia. Conclusões: Protagonizando ações de impacto significativo no enfrentamento da pandemia, o trabalho da APS pode ser fortalecido com ações de valorização dos profissionais e a promoção de espaços de diálogos e reflexões acerca dos seus próprios processos de trabalho, e os desdobramentos das mudanças a partir deles instituídas.

Introduction: The demands from every-day-life constantly cause more and more people to suffer from insomnia, becoming a worldwide epidemic that affects 40% of the population and leads to economic and social loss. Objective: evaluate Physiotherapy as a tool to reestablish the physiologic balance and consequent sleep improvement. Method: experimental research was conducted by applying physiotherapy techniques in 31 volunteers aged between 18 and 65 years old presented with insomnia. Each volunteer was submitted to 40-minute sessions twice a week for 10 sessions. Data collection was preceded by an initial and final evaluation through a questionnaire to analyze sleep quality. Salivary cortisol levels were measured and analyzed in partnership with the Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein. Results: 55% of the participants were female with mean age of 36.27 years old (±9.42) and 45% of participants were male with mean age of 36.10 years old (±10.77). Initially, 95% of these participants classified sleep as bad and by the end of the sessions 90% qualified sleep as good. At the beginning of the study, 80% reported the feeling of no having rested during sleep, at the end, this percentage dropped to 25%. Also, 75% of volunteers reported feeling sleepy during activities of daily living, but at the end this number dropped to 15%. Depression was reported in 35% of patients at the start of the study with total reversion by the end. Conclusion: the techniques used promoted an improvement in the volunteers’ sleep quality as well as a better daytime disposition.

Na pandemia COVID-19, iniciativas envolvendo estratégias de agricultura urbana foram implementadas ou expandidas, sistemas de abastecimento e transformação dos territórios urbanos são tópicos frequentes de pesquisa e reflexão atuais. A cidade de Conchal/SP traz exemplos de práticas de cidades saudáveis, incorporadas ao seu território, gestão pública e planejamento urbano e suas experiências podem ser estudadas para replicação em outras cidades pequenas. Este artigo tem como objetivo identificar e destacar convergências da agricultura urbana e premissas das cidades saudáveis, na perspectiva do enfrentamento da pandemia e suas consequências e que contribuam para o planejamento urbano nas cidades pequenas. A pesquisa consiste em um estudo descritivo com uma abordagem qualitativa e exploratória. A agricultura urbana e recuperação de vazios urbanos em projetos comunitários podem ser pensadas no contexto do enfrentamento da insegurança alimentar agravada pela pandemia, na esfera do planejamento urbano baseadas nas premissas das cidades saudáveis.

O projeto Rede de Leitores surgiu antes da pandemia do COVID-19, mas precisou ser postergado, graças ao ensino remoto em 2020, para que a inserção de literatura na escola pudesse surgir no Ensino Fundamental II da Escola Eliezer Steinbarg Max Nordau, no Rio de Janeiro, a partir das ideias estabelecidas pelo principal objetivo do projeto foi instaurar uma leitura literária de livros sem as cobranças geralmente dadas no ambiente escolar, o que culminou em marcos significativos durante o ano letivo. letramento literário de Rildo Cosson e da Base Nacional Comum Curricular, que valorizam a construção literária dos discentes. Por isso, em 2021, o projeto renasce com as necessárias adaptações ao distanciamento social e ao regime híbrido de ensino. O principal objetivo do projeto foi instaurar uma leitura literária de livros sem as cobranças geralmente dadas no ambiente escolar, o que culminou em marcos significativos durante o ano letivo. Por fim, foi possível ver um maior engajamento e uma maior participação de alunos do Fundamental II quanto à leitura no cotidiano, até mesmo inserindo no projeto as respectivas famílias para trocarem experiências de leitura. Para as questões da afetividade com a literatura, as ideias de Beatriz Feres foram a base para que se pudesse promover uma leitura estética e estésica aos discentes.

The knowledge of the physiological aspects of Caatinga’s vegetal species is extremely important for preserving this biome, which suffers with human impacts, mainly to select propagation methods. Erythrina velutina is a Brazilian tree, generally found in Caatinga, with medical and forestry potential. The objective of this paper was to determine the best soaking period in gibberellin solution to achieve the highest germination and to evaluate the internal anatomy by digital microtomography of E. velutina seeds. The design was completely randomized and consisted of eight treatments: 1, 3, 6, 12, 24 and 48 h of soaking, scarified seeds and the control with no-scarified seeds. Digital microtomography was efficient in describing the anatomy of the seeds and distinguishing their tissues. There was no significant difference between the treatments at different soaking times, as the gibberellic acid did not influence the germination; only the control presented a lower germination percentage, differing from the other treatments. The study presents evidence that E. velutina seeds do not require the exogenous use of gibberellic acid, but only the scarification process. In addition, the use of digital microtomography can be useful in understanding the anatomy of seeds, especially forest species, which can contribute to the future studies of other plant species.

Objective. The aim of this study was to compare the concentration of iodine in drinking water in the same or different seasons of the year in Brazilian macroregions. Method. Water samples were collected from the Basic Health Units of eight municipalities that make up the different Brazilian macroregions and the Federal District. Sample collection took place in the summer, autumn, winter, and spring seasons. The spectrophotometric method with “leuco crystal violet” was used to determine the concentration of iodine in the water. Descriptive statistics on the data were performed. To verify if there was a difference in the concentration of iodine in the water between the climatic seasons of the year in the same place and between the same seasons in different locations, the Mann–Whitney or Kruskal–Wallis test was used and a p < 0.05 value was considered significant. Results. Among the climatic seasons throughout the year in the same location, there was a difference in the concentration of iodine in the water in the municipality of Pinhais, state of Paraná/South macroregion, between autumn and summer ( p = 0.041 ) and winter and summer seasons ( p = 0.003 ). There was a difference in the concentration of iodine in the water in the summer season between the Midwest and South macroregions; Northeast and Midwest, Southeast and South; North and Midwest, Southeast and South ( p < 0.05 ). In the autumn season, there was a difference in the concentration of iodine in the water between the Midwest and South macroregions; Northeast and Midwest, Southeast and South; North and Midwest, Northeast and South ( p < 0.05 ). In the winter season, there was a difference in the concentration of iodine in the water between the Southeast and Midwest and Southeast and South macroregions ( p < 0.05 ). In the spring season, there was a difference in the concentration of iodine in the water between the Southeast and Midwest and Southeast and South macroregions ( p < 0.05 ). Conclusion. There were differences in the iodine concentrations in drinking water in different locations in Brazil, when analyzed in the same seasons, and in the municipality of Pinhais between the autumn and summer and winter and summer seasons. Thus, it is suggested to monitor the iodine concentrations in water, considering the differences in climate, characteristics of each region, and soils throughout the Brazilian territory, since the deficiency or excess of iodine can bring risks to the health of the population.

Urinary tract obstruction during renal development leads to inflammation, tubular apoptosis, and interstitial fibrosis. Toll like receptors (TLRs) expressed on leukocytes, myofibroblasts and renal cells play a central role in acute inflammation. TLR2 is activated by endogenous danger signals in the kidney; its contribution to renal injury in early life is still a controversial topic. We analyzed TLR2 for a potential role in the neonatal mouse model of congenital obstructive nephropathy. Inborn obstructive nephropathies are a leading cause of end-stage kidney disease in children. Thus, newborn Tlr2-/- and wild type (WT) C57BL/6 mice were subjected to complete unilateral ureteral obstruction (UUO) or sham-operation on the 2nd day of life. The neonatal kidneys were harvested and analyzed at days 7 and 14 of life. Relative expression levels of TLR2, caspase-8, GSDMD, GSDME, HMGB1, TNF, galectin-3, α-SMA, MMP-2, and TGF-β proteins were quantified semi-quantitatively by immunoblot analyses. Tubular apoptosis, proliferation, macrophage- and T-cell infiltration, tubular atrophy, and interstitial fibrosis were analyzed immunohistochemically. Neonatal Tlr2-/- mice kidneys exhibited less tubular and interstitial apoptosis as compared to those of WT C57BL/6 mice after UUO. UUO induced neonatally did trigger pyroptosis in kidneys, however to similar degrees in Tlr2-/- and WT mice. Also, tubular atrophy, interstitial fibrosis, tubular proliferation, as well as macrophage and T-cell infiltration were unremarkable. We conclude that while TLR2 mediates apoptosis in the kidneys of neonatal mice subjected to UUO, leukocyte recruitment, interstitial fibrosis, and consequent neonatal obstructive nephropathy might lack a TLR2 involvement.

PurposeThe present research had the objectives of proposing, testing and validating a theoretical model that includes ecological awareness, healthy consumption, consumer attitude and price awareness as determinants of the purchase intention of organic foods and analyzing the moderating effect of gender, educational level and income of families in the relationship between price awareness and purchase intention.Design/methodology/approachA survey research was implemented with 382 Brazilians who consume organic foods from a non-probabilistic sample for convenience. For data analysis, structural equation modeling was used to test the proposed theoretical model and its respective relationships.FindingsThe results showed that ecological awareness, healthy consumption, consumer attitude and price awareness are determinants of the purchase intention of organic foods 79.1% of the variance of purchase intention of organic foods could be explained by such determinants. Another relevant result is that gender and family income has a positive moderating effect on the relationship between price awareness and the intention to purchase organic food.Originality/valueEnvironmental problems and their adverse impacts on humans have become an important issue to be analyzed by academics (researchers), governments and organizations, and their managers, especially when organic foods are considered.

Objetivo: avaliar a deficiência de iodo em gestantes, nutrizes e lactentes. Fonte de dados: Trata-se de uma revisão integrativa com busca sistemática nas bases de dados Medline, Scielo, Lilacs e Pubmed. Utilizou-se como descritores “deficiência de iodo”, “iodo”, “leite materno” e “lactente” e seus respectivos vocábulos em inglês. As publicações foram pré-selecionadas pelos títulos e resumos, e posteriormente pela leitura integral, sendo excluídos, aqueles resumos que não atendiam aos critérios inclusão. Na busca inicial foram identificadas 72 publicações. Após avaliação dos títulos dos artigos e exclusão dos que estavam em duplicata, 66 artigos foram potencialmente elegíveis e seguiram para etapa de leitura dos resumos. Após essa etapa, 37 foram excluídos. Seguiu-se com a leitura na íntegra que gerou a exclusão de mais 18 estudos. Do total inicial, 11 artigos foram incluídos nesta revisão. A maioria dos artigos selecionados retrataram deficiência de iodo em uma parcela significativa do grupo avaliado, especialmente em gestantes cuja prevalência de deficiência variou de 24 a 92%. Resumo das conclusões: Os resultados sinalizam que se faz pertinente a discussão sobre a necessidade ou não de suplementação de iodo para gestantes e nutrizes, visto que, nem todos os suplementos utilizados durante a gestação e lactação, contêm iodo na sua composição. Os estudos analisados, na sua maioria, apontam para importante deficiência de iodo no grupo materno-infantil cenário preocupante dada as demandas nutricionais aumentadas neste grupo.

BACKGROUND: The prevalence of persistent respiratory symptoms tends to be low in patients with a longer recovery time after COVID-19. However, some patients may present persistent pulmonary abnormalities.OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the prevalence of tomographic abnormalities 90 days after symptom onset in patients with COVID-19 and compare two chest high-resolution computed tomography (HRCT) analysis techniques.METHODS: A multicentre study of patients hospitalised with COVID-19 having oxygen saturation RESULTS: Of the 91 patients included, 81% had at least one pulmonary lobe with abnormalities 90 days after discharge (84% were identified using the automated algorithm). Ground-glass opacities (76%) and parenchymal bands (65%) were the predominant abnormalities. Both chest HRCT technical assessments presented high sensitivity (95.9%) and positive predictive value (92%), with a statistically significant correlation at baseline (R = 0.80) and after 90 days (R = 0.36).CONCLUSION: The prevalence of pulmonary abnormalities on chest HRCT 90 days after symptom onset due to COVID-19 was high; both technical assessments can be used to analyse the images.

Neutrophils are key players during host defense and sterile inflammation. Neutrophil dysfunction is a characteristic feature of the acquired immunodeficiency during kidney disease. We speculated that the impaired renal clearance of the intrinsic purine metabolite soluble uric acid (sUA) may account for neutrophil dysfunction. Indeed, hyperuricemia (HU, serum UA of 9-12 mg/dL) related or unrelated to kidney dysfunction significantly diminished neutrophil adhesion and extravasation in mice with crystal- and coronavirus-related sterile inflammation using intravital microscopy and an air pouch model. This impaired neutrophil recruitment was partially reversible by depleting UA with rasburicase. We validated these findings in vitro using either neutrophils or serum from patients with kidney dysfunction–related HU with or without UA depletion, which partially normalized the defective migration of neutrophils. Mechanistically, sUA impaired β2 integrin activity and internalization/recycling by regulating intracellular pH and cytoskeletal dynamics, physiological processes that are known to alter the migratory and phagocytic capability of neutrophils. This effect was fully reversible by blocking intracellular uptake of sUA via urate transporters. In contrast, sUA had no effect on neutrophil extracellular trap formation in neutrophils from healthy subjects or patients with kidney dysfunction. Our results identify an unexpected immunoregulatory role of the intrinsic purine metabolite sUA, which contrasts the well-known immunostimulatory effects of crystalline UA. Specifically targeting UA may help to overcome certain forms of immunodeficiency, for example in kidney dysfunction, but may enhance sterile forms of inflammation.

We evaluated the effects of isoforms of ammonium transporters (AMT) and amino acid transporters (AAT) on three rice varieties cultivated with different levels of ammonium (NH4+) and its biochemical responses. The rice varieties used were IAC-47 (improved), Manteiga and Piauí (landraces), cultivated under 0.2 mM NH4+ (low N, LN), 1 mM NH4+ (sufficient N, SN) or resupply with 1 mM of NH4+ after three days without nitrogen (N). When cultivated with LN, the Piauí variety presented a higher expression of AAT (Lysine-Histidine Transporter 4 (OsLHT4) and GABA Transporters (OsGAT1)) in roots, while Manteiga and IAC-47 presented higher expression of the Amino Acid Permease 1 (OsAAP1) and Ammonium Transporter 1.1 (OsAMT1.1), respectively. Additionally, Piauí had the higher expression of glutamine synthetase (OsGS1.1 and OsGS1.3) in shoots cultivated with LN or resupply. The Piauí variety displayed higher glutamine synthetase activity and amino acid content under resupply. Manteiga and Piauí presented a lower reduction in fresh weight of leaves and sheaths under LN compared to IAC-47. The results suggest that the improved variety IAC-47 is more efficient when cultivated with SN, while, under LN or resupply, the landrace varieties were superior. Overall, the molecular responses were different among the varieties, which may affected their nitrogen metabolism.

Diante do expressivo déficit habitacional brasileiro e da hegemonia de tecnologias construtivas convencionais, extensivamente difundidas na construção civil no país, este trabalho trata da racionalização construtiva em Habitações de Interesse Social, com ênfase na aplicação do Light Steel Framing. A partir de avaliação pós-ocupacional de um dos primeiros conjuntos habitacionais construídos em Light Steel Framing no Brasil, buscou-se compreender a relação dos usuários com o ambiente construído e a percepção destes em relação ao sistema construtivo adotado, de modo a avaliar seu potencial de utilização em larga escala para produção de Habitação de Interesse Social. A pesquisa, por fim, levanta e discute a possibilidade de o Light Steel Framing poder vir a ser inserido no âmbito das tecnologias sociais.

Les eaux usées ne sont plus vues uniquement comme une pollution à traiter, mais bien comme des ressources à valoriser, notamment les nutriments (azote et phosphore), la matière organique et l’eau. Cette étude s’est donc intéressée à différentes stratégies de récupération en évaluant des scénarios de séparation à la source des effluents domestiques à l’échelle d’un quartier selon des critères d’impacts environnementaux. Le deuxième objectif de cette étude est d’analyser l’effet de l’urbanisme sur le bilan environnemental de ces différents scénarios. Pour cela l’étude se positionne à l’échelle du quartier avec six configurations urbaines différentes et représentatives des villes européennes. Un choix délibéré de filière de traitement a été réalisé visant le recyclage des ressources avec les meilleures technologies disponibles et acceptées par la communauté scientifique. La comparaison a été réalisée avec une station d’épuration centralisée récupérant les ressources des eaux usées. Dans le but de recycler les nutriments et limiter l’impact de l’assainissement sur le changement climatique, la séparation à la source des effluents est la seule solution permettant d’atteindre des objectifs ambitieux et particulièrement la séparation des urines qui permet la récupération de l’azote à faible coût environnemental. La séparation à la source permet d’augmenter significativement les taux de récupération des nutriments sous la forme de fertilisants, passant de 6 % à 48 % (minimum) pour l’azote, et de 13 % à 58 % pour le phosphore. L’analyse du bilan sur le changement climatique montre des diminutions d’au moins 20 % de l’impact grâce à la valorisation de l’azote et de la baisse des émissions de N2O pour les scénarios de séparation des urines et des eaux noires. Pour les urbanismes denses (non pavillonnaires), il est même possible d’atteindre des réductions comprises entre 30 % et 60 % grâce à une diminution de la contribution des réseaux d’assainissement.

Metallic nanoparticles (NPs) are nanostructures with a dimension between 10 and 100 nanometers (nm) that can be synthesized in laboratories through the association of reagent salts such as silver nitrate AgNO3. The objectives of this project were to evaluate the toxicity of different concentrations of Silver Nanoparticles (AgNPs) synthesized through the combustion reaction technique, as well as the nanoformulation elaborated by associating these NPs with copaiba oil, of the species Copaiffera multijulga, and surfactant Tween 80 (Polysorbate 80). AgNPs compromised root growth with increasing concentrations, and nanoformulations prevented root development at all concentrations used in the tests. The microscopic evaluation of the epidermal cells of the roots, through the detection of alterations in the mitotic process and the knowledge of the components present in the used copaiba oil, will prove with more certainty the genotoxic effects caused by the samples under study.

As meninges consistem em três partes: pia, aracnóide e dura-máter. A meningite é uma doença inflamatória das leptomeninges, os tecidos que envolvem o cérebro e a medula espinhal, e é caracterizada por um número anormal de glóbulos brancos (leucócitos) no líquido cefalorraquidiano (LCR) na maioria dos pacientes. O objetivo desse estudo é avaliar mecanismos fisiopatológicos, prevenção, triagem, manifestações clinicas e tratamento da meningite. Os bancos de dados Pubmed, UpToDate e Diretrizes foram pesquisados eletronicamente utilizando os descritores doença meningocócica, meningite, meningite bacteriana nos idiomas inglês e português. A tríade clássica de meningite bacteriana aguda consiste em febre, rigidez de nuca e alteração do estado mental, geralmente de início súbito. Determinantes do ritmo da meningite bacteriana estão relacionados tanto ao hospedeiro quanto aos fatores de virulência microbiana. Qualquer forma de meningite bacteriana que não seja tratada ou tratada muito tardiamente em seu curso é quase uniformemente fatal.

This study simulates an unusual extreme rainfall event that occurred in Salvador city, Bahia, Brazil, on December 9, 2017, which was named subtropical storm Guará and had precipitation of approximately 24 mm within less than 1 h. Numerical simulations were conducted using the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model over three domains with horizontal resolutions of 9, 3, and 1 km. Different combinations of seven microphysics, three cumulus, and three planetary boundary layer schemes were evaluated based on their ability to simulate the hourly precipitation during this rainfall event. Statistical indices (MB = –0.69; RMSE = 4.11; MAGE = 1.74; r = 0.55; IOA = 0.66; FAC2 = 0.58) and time series plots showed that the most suitable configurations for this weather event were the Mellor-Yamada-Janjić, Grell-Freitas, and Lin formulations for the planetary boundary layer, cumulus, and microphysics schemes, respectively. The results were compared with the data measured at meteorological stations located in Salvador city. The WRF model simulated well the arrival and occurrence of this extreme weather event in a tropical and coastal region, considering that the region already has intense convective characteristics and is constantly influenced by sea breezes, which could interfere in the model results and compromise the performance of the simulations.

Comprehensive next-generation sequencing panels are leading to detection of rare gene fusion events. EFGR-RAD51 fusion is a rare oncogenic finding and clinical data for management of this condition is scarce. We report a widely metastatic non-small cell lung cancer in a never-smoker young male patient with sustained near-complete systemic and intracranial response to osimertinib, a third-generation EGFR tyrosine-kinase inhibitor (TKI). We also review the available data of other TKIs in this scenario and underscore the role of comprehensive molecular testing for NSCLC.

We previously reported on the immunogenicity and safety of BNT162b2 in a large cohort of patients with cancer after the first and second doses (Di Noia et al., 2021) [1]. Herein, we present result after six months of follow-up.This prospective study included patients affected by solid tumors and afferent to our institution who received two doses of BNT162b2 vaccine. A cohort of vaccinated healthcare workers (HCW) was used as control-group. Both cohorts were evaluated for the titer of anti-Spike (S) IgG at prefixed time-points (TPs). Time-point 4 was scheduled at 24-26 weeks after the second dose.In the current analysis, 400 patients and 232 healthcare workers were evaluated. Responders (IgG15 AU/mL) in patients group were 86.5% compared with 94.4% among healthcare workers. Also the IgG titer at TP4 was significantly inferior in patients than in healthcare workers (70.81 vs 134.64 AU/ml, p 0.001). There was a more rapid decline of the antibody level from TP3 to TP4 in patients than in healthcare workers (1.78 vs 1.3 fold). The estimated IgG half-life was significantly shorter for patients (73 days) than in healthcare workers (118 days) as well as the time to reach negative serological status (340 vs 532 days).The decline of humoral response to the vaccine observed in patients with solid cancer after six months from the first dose support the urgent need of an early additional dose.

Objetivo - Avaliar e comparar a aplicabilidade do método de queiloscopia forense perante a dactiloscopia forense, para a análise de impressões labiais e digitais latentes. Métodos - Desenvolvido a partir da coleta de 60 impressões pertencentes a acadêmicos de odontologia da Universidade Estadual de Maringá. Destes, 10 foram incluídos no grupo controle e 50 tiveram seus dados dactiloscópicos e papiloscópicos registrados, constituindo um registro prévio. Uns subgrupos de 40 participantes tiveram suas impressões labiais e digitais latentes aleatórias demarcadas em uma superfície de vidro. Foram testadas duas substâncias reveladoras nas impressões latentes, sendo o pó volcano (SIRCHIE®) e uma mistura de carvão e tinta de tonner na proporção de 3/1 (pó alternativo). Após a revelação as impressões foram catalogadas, fotografadas e analisadas morfologicamente. Resultados - A revelação com pó volcano não foi eficaz na superfície testada, enquanto o pó carvão/tonner revelou parcialmente as impressões. Com a metodologia empregada não foi possível atestar a queiloscopia como método primário de identificação forense. Entretanto a análise das impressões digitais também não se mostrou eficaz para identificar todos os indivíduos. Conclusão - Os métodos utilizados não atestam a queiloscopia como um método de identificação primário. Sugere-se a realização de novos estudos, utilizando materiais e superfícies diferentes.
