Contains fulltext : 286877.pdf (Publisher’s version ) (Closed access) This systematic review aims to summarize and critically evaluate the current evidence regarding the impact of hypoglycaemia in children and adolescents with type 1 diabetes on parental quality of life. MEDLINE, PsycINFO, CINAHL, and the Cochrane Library were searched. Inclusion criteria were: 1) quantitative design, 2) included parents of children or adolescents with type 1 diabetes, 3) assessment of hypoglycemia in children/adolescents with type 1 diabetes, 4) assessment of parent quality of life (or related domains of life), and 5) analysis of the relationship(s) between the child's hypoglycaemia and parents' quality of life. The data were summarised in accordance with Synthesis Without Meta-Analysis Guidelines. Twelve studies were included, reporting data from 1895 parents across six countries. Ten studies were cross-sectional; two included prospective data. Evidence suggested that greater frequency and severity of hypoglycemia was associated with greater parental fear of hypoglycemia, emotional distress and family burden. Children's hypoglycaemia has a negative impact on the well-being of parents, but there is an absence of evidence regarding the impact on their overall quality of life. Research into the hypoglycaemia-specific quality of life of parents is needed to explore the impact on various areas, such as social and physical dimensions.

It has become clear in recent years that the configuration space of the nuclear Skyrme model has, in each topological class, many almost degenerate local energy minima and that the number of such minima grows with the degree (or baryon number) $B$. Rigid body quantization, in which one quantizes motion on the spin-isospin orbit of just one minimum, is thus an ill-justified approximation. Instead, one should identify a (finite dimensional) moduli space of configurations containing all local minima (for a given $B$) as well as fields interpolating smoothly between them. This paper proposes a systematic computational scheme for generating such a moduli space: one constructs an energy minimizing path between each pair of local minima, then defines the moduli space to be the union of spin-isospin orbits of points on the union of these curves, a principal bundle over a graph. The energy minimizing curves may be constructed in practice using the nudged elastic band method, a standard tool in mathematical chemistry for analyzing reaction paths and computing activation energies. To illustrate, we apply this scheme to the lightly bound Skyrme model in the point particle approximation, constructing the graphs for $5\leq B\leq 10$. We go on to complete the quantization for $B=7$, in which the graph has two vertices and a single edge. The low-lying quantum states with isospin $1/2$ do not strongly localize around either of the local energy minima (the vertices). Introduction Psychological barriers to insulin therapy are associated with the delay of clinically indicated treatment intensification for people with type 2 diabetes (T2D), yet few evidence-based interventions exist to address these barriers. We describe the protocol for a randomised controlled trial (RCT) examining the efficacy of a novel, theoretically grounded, psychoeducational, web-based resource designed to reduce psychological barriers to insulin among adults with non-insulin treated T2D: 'Is insulin right for me?'. Methods and analysis Double-blind, parallel group RCT. A target sample of N=392 participants (n=196/arm) will be randomised (1:1) to 'Is insulin right for me?' (intervention) or widely available online resources (control). Eligible participants include adults (18-75 years), residing in Australia, currently taking oral hypoglycaemic agents to manage T2D. They will be primarily recruited via invitations and reminders from the national diabetes registry (from a purposefully selected sample of N≥12 000). Exclusion criteria: experience of self-administered injectable; previously enrolled in pilot RCT; 'very willing' to start insulin as baseline. Outcomes will be assessed via online survey at 2 weeks and 6 months. Primary outcome between-group: difference in mean negative Insulin Treatment Appraisal Scores (ITAS negative) at 2-week and 6-month follow-up. Secondary outcomes: between-group differences in mean positive insulin appraisals (ITAS positive) and percentage difference in intention to commence insulin at follow-up time points. All data analyses will be conducted according to the intention-to-treat principle. Ethics and dissemination Deakin University Human Research Ethics Committee (2020-073). Background: To examine associations between physical activity (PA) and depressive symptoms among adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus (Type 2 DM), and whether associations varied according to weight status. Methods: Diabetes MILES-Australia is a national survey of adults with diabetes, focused on behavioral and psychosocial issues. Data from 705 respondents with Type 2 DM were analyzed, including: demographic and clinical characteristics, PA (IPAQ-SF), depressive symptoms (PHQ-9), and BMI (self-reported height and weight). Data analysis was performed using ANCOVA. Results: Respondents were aged 59 ± 8 years; 50% women. PA was negatively associated with depressive symptoms for the overall sample (?p 2= 0.04,P < .001) and all weight categories separately: healthy (?p 2 0.11 P = .041,), overweight (?p 2= 0.04, P = .025) and obese (?p 2 = 0.03, P = .007). For people who were healthy (BMI 18.5 to 24.9) or overweight (BMI 25 to 29.9), high amounts of PA were significantly associated with fewer depressive symptoms; for adults who were obese (BMI ? 30) however, both moderate and high amounts were associated with fewer depressive symptoms. Conclusions: PA is associated with fewer depressive symptoms among adults with Type 2DM, however the amount of PA associated with fewer depressive symptoms varies according to weight status. Lower amounts of PA might be required for people who are obese to achieve meaningful reductions in depressive symptoms compared with those who are healthy weight or overweight. Further research is needed to establish the direction of the relationship between PA and depressive symptoms.

Traditionally, superconductors are categorized as type-I or type-II. Type-I superconductors support only Meissner and normal states, while type-II superconductors form magnetic vortices in sufficiently strong applied magnetic fields. Recently there has been much interest in superconducting systems with several species of condensates, in fields ranging from Condensed Matter to High Energy Physics. Here we show that the type-I/type-II classification is insufficient for such multicomponent superconductors. We obtain solutions representing thermodynamically stable vortices with properties falling outside the usual type-I/type-II dichotomy, in that they have the following features: (i) Pippard electrodynamics, (ii) interaction potential with long-range attractive and short-range repulsive parts, (iii) for an n-quantum vortex, a non-monotonic ratio E(n)/n where E(n) is the energy per unit length, (iv) energetic preference for non-axisymmetric vortex states, "vortex molecules". Consequently, these superconductors exhibit an emerging first order transition into a "semi-Meissner" state, an inhomogeneous state comprising a mixture of domains of two-component Meissner state and vortex clusters., Comment: in print in Phys. Harmonic maps from S^2 to S^2 are all weakly conformal, and so are represented by rational maps. This paper presents a study of the L^2 metric gamma on M_n, the space of degree n harmonic maps S^2 -> S^2, or equivalently, the space of rational maps of degree n. It is proved that gamma is Kaehler with respect to a certain natural complex structure on M_n. The case n=1 is considered in detail: explicit formulae for gamma and its holomorphic sectional, Ricci and scalar curvatures are obtained, it is shown that the space has finite volume and diameter and codimension 2 boundary at infinity, and a certain class of Hamiltonian flows on M_1 is analyzed. It is proved that \tilde{M}_n, the space of absolute degree n (an odd positive integer) harmonic maps RP^2 -> RP^2, is a totally geodesic Lagrangian submanifold of M_n, and that for all n>1, \tilde{M}_n is geodesically incomplete. The slow motion of a self-gravitating CP^1 lump is investigated in the approximation of geodesic flow on the moduli space of unit degree static solutions M_1. It is found that moduli which are frozen in the absence of gravity, parametrizing the lump's width and internal orientation, may vary once gravitational effects are included. If gravitational coupling is sufficiently strong, the presence of the lump shrinks physical space to finite volume, and the moduli determining the boundary value of the CP^1 field thaw also. Explicit formulae for the metric on M_1 are found in both the weak and strong coupling regimes. The geodesic problem for weak coupling is studied in detail, and it is shown that M_1 is geodesically incomplete. Biodiesel production from waste cooking oil with methanol was carried out in the presence of poly(vinyl alcohol) with sulfonic acid groups (PVA-SO3H) and polystyrene with sulfonic acid groups (PS-SO3H), at 60°C. The PVA-SO3H catalyst showed higher catalytic activity than the PS-SO3H one. In order to optimize the reaction conditions, different parameters were studied. An increase of waste cooking oil conversion into fatty acid methyl esters with the amount of PVA-SO3H was observed. When the transesterification and esterification of WCO was carried out with ethanol over PVA-SO3H, at 60°C, a decrease of biodiesel production was also observed. The WCO conversion into fatty acid ethyl ester increased when the temperature was increased from 60 to 80°C. When different amounts of free fatty acids were added to the reaction mixture, a slight increase on the conversion was observed. The PVA-SO3H catalyst was reused and recycled with negligible loss in the activity.

Waste cooking oil was converted with methanol into biodiesel over a basic resin (Amberlite IRA96) as catalyst, at 60°C. In order to optimize the reaction conditions, different parameters, such as catalyst loading, temperature, nature of alcohol, molar ratio of waste cooking oil to methanol, and amount of initial free fatty acid, were studied. The catalyst was reused and recycled with negligible loss in the activity. A simple kinetic model can be established based on the assumptions that the triglycerides are consumed according to the consecutive reaction network. It was observed that the kinetic model fits experimental concentration data quite well.

Condensation of glycerol with acetone was carried out over poly(vinyl alcohol) with sulfonic acid groups at 70°C. The main product of glycerol acetalization is solketal. Catalysts with different amounts of sulfonic acid groups were prepared. It was observed that the catalytic activity increases with the crosslinking degree, due to the increases of the amount of sulfonic acid groups on poly(vinyl alcohol). Further, the influence of various reaction parameters, such as catalyst loading, molar ratio glycerol to acetone, and temperature, on the acetalization of glycerol over PVA40 was studied. It was found that at 70°C, with 0.2 g of catalyst loading and with a molar ratio of glycerol to acetone 1:6, a glycerol conversion of about 94% after 3 h can be obtained. The PVA40 catalyst was recycled and reused with negligible loss in the activity, after the fifth use.
