Background Left atrial appendage closure (LAAC) is an effective alternative to oral anticoagulation (OA) for the prevention of stroke in patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation (NVAF). Objective To present the immediate results and late outcomes of patients submitted to LAAC and included in the Brazilian Registry of Percutaneous Left Atrial Appendage Closure. Methods 91 patients with NVAF, high stroke risk (CHA2DS2VASc score = 4.5 ± 1.5) and restrictions to OAC (HAS-BLED score = 3.6 ± 1.0) underwent 92 LAAC procedures using either the Amplatzer cardiac plug or the Watchman device in 11 centers in Brazil, between late 2010 and mid 2016. Results Ninety-six devices were used (1.04 device/procedure, including an additional non-dedicated device), with a procedural success rate of 97.8%. Associated procedures were performed in 8.7% of the patients. Complete LAAC was obtained in 93.3% of the successful cases. In cases of incomplete closure, no residual leak was larger than 2.5 mm. One patient needed simultaneous implantation of 2 devices. There were 7 periprocedural major (5 pericardial effusions requiring pericardiocentesis, 1 non-dedicated device embolization and 1 coronary air embolism without sequelae) and 4 minor complications. After 128.6 patient-years of follow-up there were 3 deaths unrelated to the procedure, 2 major bleedings (one of them in a patient with an unsuccessful LAAC), thrombus formation over the device in 2 cases (both resolved after resuming OAC for 3 months) and 2 strokes (2.2%). Conclusions In this multicenter, real world registry, that included patients with NVAF and high thromboembolic and bleeding risks, LAAC effectively prevented stroke and bleeding when compared to the expected rates based on CHA2DS2VASc and HASBLED scores for this population. Complications rate of the procedure was acceptable considering the beginning of the learning curve of most of the involved operators.

The antioxidant activity and properties of 12 wildmushrooms (Lactarius piperatus,Tricholoma anatolicum, Amanitacaesarea, Lactarius delicious, Lactarius sanguifluus,Cantharellus cibarius,Hydnum repandum,Picoa lefebvrei Ramaria aurea, Lactarius semisanguifluuss, Craterellus cornucopioides,Laccaria laccata) collected from Turkey were evaluated. Their methanolicextracts were used to determine antioxidant capacity(TAC), total phenolics and flavonoids. 2,2-Diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH)radical scavenging activities were measured to evaluate antioxidant capacity ofthe extracts and expressed as trolox equivalents (TE). The amount of totalphenolics was determined by using Folin–Ciocalteu method and Flavonoid contents inthe extracts were determined by a colorimetric method. Wild mushrooms werefound to be high in antioxidant phytochemicals, such as phenolics(575.10-2156.40 mg GAE/100g DW), flavonoids (103.01-310.89 mg CE/100g DW). Mantarların toplamfenolik madde içeriği 575.10-2156.40 mg GAE/100g DW, flavonoit miktarı103.01-346.53 mg CE/100g DW ve antioksidan aktivitesi 525.32 to 1693.85 µmol (TE)/100 g DW arasında değişmiştir.

Çalışmamızda farklı antioksidanların dondurma çözdürme sonrası sperma parametreleri ve spermanın inkubasy-on direncinin artırılması üzerine etkilerinin belirlenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Birleştirilien sperma örnekleri dört eşit hacme bölünerek, antioksidan ilave edilmiş (5mM methiyonin, 5mM sisteamin, 1mM sistein) ve edilmemiş (kontrol) sulandırıcılarla iki aşamalı sulandırma yöntemi ile sulandırılmıştır. Sperma örneklerinin değerlendirilmesi amacıyla mo-tilite, plazma membran bütünlüğünün değerlendirilmesi amacıyla hipoozmotik şişme testi (HOST) ve Hoechst 33258 testi, akrozom ve DNA bozukluklarının belirlenmesi amacıyla ise sırasıyla FITC-Pisum sativum agglutinin (PSA-FITC) ve terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase-mediated dUTP nick-end labeling (TUNEL) boyama değerlerine bakılmıştır. Ayrıca membran lipid peroksidasyonun değerlendirilmesi için malondialdehyde (MDA) konsantrasyon ölçümü yapılmıştır. Değerlendirmeler doğrultusunda koç spermasının dondrulmasında antioksidan ilave edilen grupların mo-tilite, plazma mebran bütünlüğü ve akrozom bütünlü değerlerinin kontrol grubundan daha yüksek olduğu sonucuna varılmıştır (P0.05). Dondurma çözdürme işlemleri ve 6 saat inkubasyon sonrası en yüksek motilite (%35), HOST (%50), Hoechst (%56.50) ve en düşük akrozomal bozukluk (%35) ve DNA bozukluk (%8.80) oranları 1mM sistein içeren sulandırıcı ile dondurulan grupta elde edilmiştir., The aim of the current study was to evaluate different antioxidant-supplemented extenders for post-thaw semen quality and incubation resilience of ram spermatozoa. Pooled semen samples were divided into four equal vol-umes and each volume were diluted with two-step dilution method in control and antoxidant supplemented groups (5mM methionine, 5mM cysteamine and 1mM cysteine). Semen samples were assessed for the sperm motility, plasma membrane integrity using hypoosmotic swelling test (HOST) and Hoechst 33258 test, damaged acrosome using FITC-Pisum sativum agglutinin (PSA-FITC) and DNA integrity using terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase-mediated dUTP nick-end labeling (TUNEL). 6. Five Novel Dicyanidoaurate(I)-Based Complexes Exhibiting Significant Biological Activities: Synthesis, Characterization And Three Crystal Structures

Five new cyanido-bridged coordination polymers having closed formulae [Ni(hydeten)Au-2(CN)(4)] (C1), [Ni(hydeten)(2)Au-2(CN)(4)]center dot H2O (C2), [Cu(hydeten)(2)Au-2(CN)(4)]center dot CH3OH (C3), [Zn(hydeten)(2) Au-2(CN)(4)]center dot H2O (C4), and [Cd(hydeten)(2)Au-2(CN)(4)]center dot H2O (C5) (hydeten: N-(2-hydroxyethyl)-ethylenediamine) have been prepared and characterized by elemental, thermal, FT-IR and XRD (C3, C4 and C5) measurement techniques. The anticancer, antibacterial and antifungal activities of the complexes are also investigated. The C3, C4 and C5 units according to XRD analyses are linked to each other via -CN-M(hydeten)-NC-Au(1)-CN-M(hydeten)-CN- chains (M-II = Cu, Zn and Cd) and aurophilic interacted -Au(1)(CN)2-Au(2)(CN)2-Au(1)(CN)2-Au(2)(CN)2- zig-zag shaped chains along the a axis. C1, C2 and C4 show significant antifungal effects against several plant pathogenic fungi, while surprisingly C3 exhibits a considerable antibacterial effect against Gram negative E. coli. The studies of the antiproliferative activity on Hela, HT29 and C6 tumor cell lines indicated the anticancer potential of these complexes even at low doses.

The aim of the current study was to evaluate the effects of different concentrations of rainbow trout seminal plasma (RTSP) (0.1%, 1% and 10%) in extenders containing either egg yolk or lecithin for use in Awassi ram semen cryopreservation. Pooled sperm were diluted in a two-step dilution method to a final concentration of 1/5 (semen/extender) in egg yolk or lecithin extender containing no RTSP, 0.1%, 1% or 10% RTSP (v/v). Semen samples were assessed for sperm motility, plasma membrane integrity [hypoosmotic swelling test (HOST) and Hoechst 33258] and defective acrosomes [FITC-conjugated Pisum sativum agglutinin (PSA-FITC)] at the following five time points: after dilution with extender A; after equilibration; and post-thaw at 0 h, 3 h and 5 h. The efficiency of medroxyprogesterone acetate (MAP) and fluorogestone acetate (FGA) sponges with or without PGF(2alpha) (cloprostenol) for synchronizing estrous in non-lactating does was investigated during the natural breeding season. Does were treated for 11 days with 60 mg MAP (n = 38) or 40 mg FGA (n = 32) sponges. All does also received intramuscular injections of 500 IU PMSG. In addition, 19 and 14 of the does synchronized with MAP and FGA respectively, were injected with 125 mug cloprostenol and the remaining does from both groups were injected with 1.5 ml of sterile saline solution, 48 h prior the sponge removal. Cervical artificial insemination (AI) with diluted fresh semen was performed at a fixed time (36 and 48 h) following progestagen withdrawal. The different groups estrous response for the first 12 6 h and within 66 h, time to onset and duration of the induced estrous, and pregnancy rate was found to be 52.6%, 92.9%, 20.6 +/- 0.8 h, 29.7 +/- 1.3 h, and 70.0%, respectively. There were significant differences between groups FGA/PMSG/PGF(2alpha) and MAP/PMSG in terms of the duration of induced estrous (P < 0.05) and between groups FGA/PMSG/PGF(2alpha) and FGA/PMSG in terms of estrous response at the first 12 +/- 6 h (P < 0.05). These results indicate that, the use of MAP/PMSG and FGA/PMSG intravaginal progestagen treatments with or without cloprostenol are equally efficient in synchronizing estrous in non-lactating hair goats during the natural breeding season.

WOS: 000330081900034, Two new K+/Cu(II) and Zn(II) coordination polymers with pyridine-2,3-dicarboxylate (pydc), {K-2[Cu(mu-PYdc)(2)] center dot 3H(2)O}(n) (1) and {[Zn(mu-pydc)(H2O)(4-mim)] center dot H2O}(n) (2) (4-mim=4-methylimidazole) have been synthesized from zerovalent metal and characterized by IR, EPR spectroscopy, thermal analysis and single crystal X-ray diffraction techniques. In the sandwiched 3D anionic framework of 1, pydc ligands exhibit hexadentate coordination; tridentate coordination bond with Cu(II) and tridentate ionic interaction with K+ ions. {K2[Cu(mu-pydc)(2)] center dot 3H(2)O}(n) shows a rare topology consists of three dimensional (3,4,5)-connected network with the point symbol of {4(2).6}(2){4(2).8(4)}{4(3).6.8(6)}(2). The distorted square pyramidal geometry of 2 is completed with an nitrogen atom from 4-mim and aqua ligand to form a 1D polynuclear structure. The hydrogen bonds link the 1D chains into 3D architecture. The temperature dependent magnetic property of complex 1 has been studied.
