Background: Acronychia is a genus of the medicinal plants that was used traditionally to treat various ailments such as cough, asthma, sores, ulcers, itchy skin, fever, and rheumatism. Acronychia plants have a wide range of distribution, but they are mostly native to India, Siri Lanka, Australia, and Indochina. Since the 1950s Acronychia plants have been extensively used in phytochemical research and pharmacological examinations. Objective: The goal of this study is to structurally compile almost secondary metabolites from the title plants, as well as coverage of full information on their biomedical actions. Conclusion: Phytochemical profile of this genus is associated with the appearances of various chemical classes, including principal compounds type acetophloroglucinols and alkaloids, as well as other types coumarins, mono-phenols, flavonoids, phytosterols, lignans, xanthenes, and tocopherols. More than one hundred thirty secondary metabolites have been isolated. Naturally occurring acetophloroglucinols represented in both monomers and dimers, and most of them were new in nature. Phytochemical research based on GC-MS identification showed that Acronychia plants should be suitable for the cosmeceutical field and food chemistry due to the high content of volatiles. Acronychia extracts are safe in use, and they are increasingly exploited within pharmacological assays. In agreement with traditional properties, crude plant extracts, fractions, and their isolated compounds are well-known for antimicrobial, antioxidative, antiinflammatory, antiprotozal, antiarrhythmic, antinociceptive, antihistamine, and allelopathic activities, especially in terms of cytotoxicity. A sustainable use program should be established to aid the further studies of these medicinal plants.

Background: Knema (the Myristicaceae family) is a large genus of small-medium trees found in Southeast Asia, Africa, and Australia. Historical records dealt with the uses of Knema species as medicinal plants against various diseases, especially cancer remedies, or their application as tonic agents in Asian communities Objective: The aim of this review is to provide the most current knowledge on the traditional uses, chemical profiles, as well as pharmacological values of Knema plants. Methods: Through electronic search, the literature materials on Knema plants were acquired from scholarly journals, books, and internationally recognized scientific databases, such as PubMed, ScienceDirect, Sci-Finder, Web of Science, and Google Scholar. All full-text articles and abstracts on Knema were screened. Genus Knema, traditional use, phytochemistry, and pharmacology were the first selective keywords to search for references. Results: Since the 1970s, more than 185 metabolites have been isolated from Knema plants and structurally elucidated. Among them, phenolic lipids, flavonoids, and lignans are the principal metabolites. Crude extracts, fractions, and isolated compounds of Knema species possess a wide variety of pharmacological properties, such as antioxidative, antidiabetic, antimicrobial, antiinflammatory, antimalarial, neuroprotective, and hepatoprotective activities, but cytotoxicity is the most striking feature. Phenolic lipids containing long alkyl side chains and polar hydroxyl or acyl groups are found as the most active molecules in cytotoxic assays. Conclusion: Further studies on phytochemistry and pharmacological activities, toxicological assessments, pharmacological mechanisms, and pharmacokinetics are urgently needed.

This study aims to understand tourism and hospitality small and medium-sized enterprises' (THSMEs) decision making about event leveraging, specifically by exploring the critical factors that drive THSMEs to engage in event leveraging. By examining event leveraging from the entrepreneurial process perspective, this study provides new understanding of evaluating and interpreting local businesses' event leveraging. The results from semistructured interviews with THSMEs' owners and managers revealed four critical factors affecting THSMEs' decision making regarding event leveraging.Information availability, which refers to obtaining information about upcoming events in a timely manner and acquiring know-how in event leveraging, was found to be the most critical factor. This factor was found to influence another three factors, namely, business strategy, internal resources , and attitude and belief toward event leveraging. Based on the findings of this study, practical recommendations are provided for destination marketing organizations and local business associations to better support THSMEs to benefit through events.

The anxiety about COVID-19 was evaluated by the fear of COVID-19 (FOC) scale. A self-developed questionnaire was used to assess work conditions and HCW’s major concerns and preparedness. Ordinal logistic regression was used to identify factors associated with the severity of PTSD. A structural modeling equation (SEM) model was fitted to examine the correlation between PTSD and other psychological disturbances.Results: A total of 542 HCWs participated in this study. The prevalence of PTSD was 21.2%, most cases were mild. In the ordinal logistic regression analysis, a history of mental illness, poor preparedness, working in a condition with poor resources, a greater number of concerns, and greater fear of COVID-19 were independently associated with higher severity of PTSD. The prevalence of depression, anxiety, and stress was 46.8%, 38.3%, and 60.2, respectively. In the SEM model, PTSD and psychological disturbances had a strong correlation (standardized covariance 0.86).Conclusion: The prevalence of PTSD and other psychological disturbances was alarmingly high among HCWs who worked at COVID-19 field hospitals. The reported associated factors can be useful for policymakers and health authorities in the preparation for future pandemics.Keywords: PTSD, COVID-19, healthcare workers, DASS, fear of COVID, psychological disturbances

The purpose of this research was to develop learning activities to improve global competence for a classroom-based course in the field of clothing and textiles and explore how those activities affected the global competence of college students. To achieve this goal, the researchers proposed the following objectives: (a) develop learning activities on global competence and (b) explore the influences of newly proposed learning activities on the global competence of college students. The authors analyzed students’ reflective essays to identify themes through constant comparative analysis. The authors found participants learned about the Japanese culture through diverse aspects of global competence—affective, cognitive, and behavioral dimensions—throughout the semester via these learning activities. The authors also found informal writing could work as a starting point, where students were slowly exposed to a different culture, and reflective essays worked as a final summarizing phase where students could think further about their learning process related to global competence. This research is significant in terms of providing an empirical example of how to increase global competence in classroom-based courses. Additionally, scholars and teaching practitioners can gain insights from this study on how to improve global competence for the future workforce in a global economy.

Mg3Sb2-based materials are very promising for thermoelectric applications at low temperatures, and are strong candidates to replace n-type Bi2Te3 for cooling and power generation. Substituting Sb atoms with chalcogen elements (S, Se, Te) is a typical method of n-type doping, while doping the Mg site with Group 3 elements (Y, Sc) and Lanthanides has also been studied. Unique advantages have been recently reported. In this study, a La-containing compound, LaSb, was used to fabricate n-type Mg3SbBi. The thermoelectric properties of polycrystalline Mg3LaxSbBi (0 ≤ x ≤ 0.02) were investigated after synthesis by sequential processes of arc melting, ball milling, and spark plasma sintering. Undoped Mg3SbBi is p-type with poor thermoelectric performance, and switched to n-type with La doping. The electron concentration of Mg3LaxSbBi increased linearly with La content x, reaching up to 9.4 × 1019 cm-3 at x = 0.02. The power factor and the figure of merit were also maximized in Mg3La0.02SbBi, reaching 1.8 mW m-1K-2 (573 K) and 0.89 (623 K), respectively. The lattice thermal conductivity decreased with increasing La content above ~500 K, and the minimum value of 0.73 W m-1K-1 was obtained in Mg3La0.02SbBi. This study shows that La doping using LaSb provides a reliable method for n-type doping of Mg3Sb2-based materials.

Background: Accurate prognosis is important either after acute infection or during long-term follow-up of patients infected by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2. This study aims to predict coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) severity based on clinical and biological indicators, and to identify biomarkers for prognostic assessment.Methods: We included 261 Vietnamese COVID-19 patients, who were classified into moderate and severe groups. Disease severity prediction based on biomarkers and clinical parameters was performed by applying machine learning and statistical methods using the combination of clinical and biological data.Results: The random forest model could predict with 97% accuracy the likelihood of COVID-19 patients who subsequently worsened to the severe condition. The most important indicators were interleukin (IL)-6, ferritin and D-dimer. The model could still predict with 92% accuracy after removing IL-6 from the analysis to generalise the applicability of the model to hospitals with limited capacity for IL-6 testing. The five most effective indicators were C-reactive protein (CRP), D-dimer, IL-6, ferritin and dyspnoea. Two different sets of biomarkers (D-dimer, IL-6 and ferritin, and CRP, D-dimer and IL-6) are applicable for the assessment of disease severity and prognosis. The two biomarker sets were further tested through machine learning algorithms and relatively validated on two Danish COVID-19 patient groups (n=32 and n=100). The results indicated that various biomarker sets combined with clinical data can be used for detection of the potential to develop the severe condition.Conclusion: This study provided a simple and reliable model using two different sets of biomarkers to assess disease severity and predict clinical outcomes in COVID-19 patients in Vietnam. Narrow spectrum series from N-40 to N-120 were established according to ISO 4037:2019. This study was made through experimental measurements and the software modeling toolkit SpekPy v2.0. Experiments were performed to determine Inherent filtration (0.332 & 0.492 mm Al at 100 cm & 250 cm, respectively). The maximum deviation compared to ISO 4037:2019 of the measured HVLs values are not more then 0.10 mm Al and for modeling not exceed 0.09 mm Al; h range 0.91 to 0.97 for experimently and 0.89 to 0.96 for modeling (0.88 - 1, ISO 4037-1:2019). The maximum contribution of scattering is value 4.0% (< 5%, ISO 4037-1:2019). Radiation field uniformity of N-40 to N-120 should list all categories in detail 12.5, 11.0, 10.0, 9.0, 8.5 cm at 100 cm distance; and 35.5, 31.5, 29.0, 26.5, 24.5 cm at 250 cm beam center axis distance. On the basis of ISO 4037:2019, air kerma values at 100 cm and 250 cm have also been determined with uncertainties 3.85% to 5.18% for experimently and 3.41% to 4.19% for modeling (not exceed 10%, ISO 4037:2019). Therefore, the X-ray radiation field has been well established in compliance with the ISO 4037:2019, it can be used for calibrating survey meters and personal dosimeters.

Two new species of genus Helicteres (Malvaceae, Helicteroideae), Helicteres Taynguyenenis and Helicteres dakmilensis from the Central Highlands of Vietnam are described and illustrated. H. taynguyenensis is morphologically similar to Helicteres angustifolia widely distributed in mainland SE Asia to China, Japan and Australia, but differs from the latter by having shorter petioles, larger calyx and petals, and longer androgynophores. Helicteres dakmilensis is closely related to Helicteres poilanei endemic to Vietnam, but distinguished by shorter petioles, fewer secondary veins, persistent stipules and bracts, larger calyx and fruits. The IUCN conservation status, vernacular name, illustrations, photographs, and comparison with the closest allies are provided for each of the new species.

Plasmonic biosensors are increasingly being used for the analysis of extracellular vesicles (EVs) originating from disease areas. However, the high non-specific binding of EVs to a gold-sensing surface has been a critical problem and hindered the true translational potential. Here, we report that direct antibody immobilization on the plasmonic gold surface via physisorption shows excellent capture of cancer-derived EVs with ultralow non-specific binding even at very high concentrations. Contrary to commonly used methods that involve thiol-based linker attachment and an EDC/sulfo-NHS reaction, we show a higher specific capture rate and50-fold lower non-specific on citrate-capped plain and nanopatterned gold surfaces. The method provides a simple, fast, and reproducible means to functionalize plasmonic gold surfaces with antibodies for robust EV biosensing.

Purpose: This study aimed to identify the risk factors of cognitive decline in older adults living alone in local communities and to find cognitive nursing methods by the area of residence. Methods: The participants were 164 people living alone for 12 years. The data were analyzed using a generalized estimating equations method. Results: The following factors were identified as statistically significant predictors that increased cognitive decline in older adults living alone: 1) rural areas: age (odds ratio [OR]=1.02, 95% confidence interval [CI]=1.01~1.02), low education (OR=1.53, 95% CI=1.13~2.07), number of diseases (OR=1.07, 95% CI=1.01~1.14), 2) urban areas: women (OR=1.27, 95% CI=1.09~1.49), age (OR=1.02, 95% CI=1.01~1.03), low education (OR=1.26, 95% CI=1.14~1.40), body mass index (OR=0.98, 95% CI=0.96~0.99), instrumental activities of daily living (OR=1.02, 95% CI=1.00~1.04), depressive symptom (OR=1.14, 95% CI=1.03~1.25). Conclusion: The older adults who lived alone had different risk factors for cognitive decline depending on their areas of residence. Preventive management for cognitive decline should be presented according to the areas of residence among older adults living alone.

In this study, carbon-coated porous nanofibers were prepared via electrospinning and the performance of Li[Ni0.93Co0.07]O2 (NC) synthesized by electrospinning (E-NC) and co-precipitation (C-NC) was compared. E-NC had a discharge capacity of 206 mAh g−1 at 0.1C (17 mA/g), which is 10% higher than that of C-NC (189.2 mAh g−1). E-NC shows a high-rate performance of 118.32 mAh g−1 (61.7%) at 5C (850 mA/g), which is 50% higher than that of C-NC (78.22 mAh g−1 = 45.7%). Charge transfer of the carbon-coated porous nanofiber E-NC decreased by 35% compared to C-NC after 20 cycles as observed using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. The results of this study show that the nanofiber structure with carbon coating shortens the Li-ion diffusion path, improves electrical conductivity, resulting in excellent rate performance.

Background: It is important for the dialysis specialist to provide essential and safe care to hemodialysis (HD) patients. However, little is known about the actual effect of dialysis specialist care on the survival of HD patients. We therefore investigated the influence of dialysis specialist care on patient mortality in a nationwide Korean dialysis cohort.Methods: We used an HD quality assessment and National Health Insurance Service claims data from October to December 2015. A total of 34,408 patients were divided into two groups according to the proportion of dialysis specialists in their HD unit, as follows: 0%, no dialysis specialist care group, and ≥50%, dialysis specialist care group. We analyzed the mortality risk of these groups using the Cox proportional hazards model after matching propensity scores. Results: After propensity score matching, 18,344 patients were enrolled. The ratio of patients from the groups with and without dialysis specialist care was 86.7% to 13.3%. The dialysis specialist care group showed a shorter dialysis vintage, higher levels of hemoglobin, higher single-pool Kt/V values, lower levels of phosphorus, and lower systolic and diastolic blood pressures than the no dialysis specialist care group. After adjusting demographic and clinical parameters, the absence of dialysis specialist care was a significant independent risk factor for all-cause mortality (hazard ratio, 1.10; 95% confidence interval, 1.03–1.18; p = 0.004).Conclusion: Dialysis specialist care is an important determinant of overall patient survival among HD patients. Appropriate care given by dialysis specialists may improve clinical outcomes of patients undergoing HD.

The purpose of this study was to examine how sociodemographic status, family-related influences, and perceived future economic prospects were associated with the possibility of getting married and having children in a sample of 607 single young Korean adults. The sample comprised unmarried men and women in their 20s and 30s taken from the 2021 Seoul Family Report survey, and descriptive statistical and multiple regression analyses were conducted on the data. The results indicated that age, non-traditional marriage/ childbearing values, parents’ marital relationship during childhood, and the prospect of having a stable job and owning a home were significantly related to the possibility of marriage. With regard to the possibility of having children, a significant relationship was found with age, level of education, non-traditional marriage/ childbearing values, recognition of the importance of family, parents' marital relationship during childhood, and the prospect of having a stable job and owning a home. The study also examined the importance of policies that make the possibility of marriage and having children more appealing to young unmarried adults in Korea by providing a positive outlook for the economy, a sense of stability, and a supportive approach to the value of having a family.
