The upsurge in usage of mobile devices together with significant growth in security threats has led to pervasive harm both in organizational and personal levels. The perilous rise in security threats is mostly due to a huge amount of sensitive information stored and transmitted on digital devices and intensified by inadequate security practices. The Protection of information assets is often contingent on the behavior and activities of the users leading to the establishment of a subfield of information security known as behavioral information security (InfoSec). This study presents an all-encompassing yet pragmatic view of mobile user's security-related behavior while attempting to respond to scholars' critiques regarding the incompleteness of extant behavioral InfoSec research. A careful review of prospects to enhance the previous approaches lead to an integrated model featuring interrelated deliberations. Interesting and strong results of our integrated model should validate the efficacy of the hypotheses and add value to the research stream in the field of behavioral InfoSec.

Serotonin is a bioamine regulating bone mass accrual differently depending on its site of synthesis. It decreases accrual when synthesized in the gut, and increases it when synthesized in the brain. The signal transduction events elicited by gut-derived serotonin once it binds to the Htr1b receptor present on osteoblasts have been identified and culminate in cAMP response element-binding protein (CREB) regulation of osteoblast proliferation. In contrast, we do not know how brain-derived serotonin favors bone mass accrual following its binding to the Htr2c receptor on neurons of the hypothalamic ventromedial nucleus (VMH). We show here—through gene expression analysis, serotonin treatment of wild-type and Htr2c−/− hypothalamic explants, and cell-specific gene deletion in the mouse—that, following its binding to the Htr2c receptor on VMH neurons, serotonin uses a calmodulin kinase (CaMK)-dependent signaling cascade involving CaMKKβ and CaMKIV to decrease the sympathetic tone and increase bone mass accrual. We further show that the transcriptional mediator of these events is CREB, whose phosphorylation on Ser 133 is increased by CaMKIV following serotonin treatment of hypothalamic explants. A microarray experiment identified two genes necessary for optimum sympathetic activity whose expression is regulated by CREB. These results provide a molecular understanding of how serotonin signals in hypothalamic neurons to regulate bone mass accrual and identify CREB as a critical determinant of this function, although through different mechanisms depending on the cell type, neuron, or osteoblast in which it is expressed.

Abnormally high spiking activity can damage neurons. Signaling systems to protect neurons from the consequences of abnormal discharge activity have been postulated. We generated conditional mutant mice that lack expression of the cannabinoid receptor type 1 in principal forebrain neurons but not in adjacent inhibitory interneurons. In mutant mice,the excitotoxin kainic acid (KA) induced excessive seizures in vivo. The threshold to KA-induced neuronal excitation in vitro was severely reduced in hippocampal pyramidal neurons of mutants. KA administration rapidly raised hippocampal levels of anandamide and induced protective mechanisms in wild-type principal hippocampal neurons. These protective mechanisms could not be triggered in mutant mice. The endogenous cannabinoid system thus provides on-demand protection against acute excitotoxicity in central nervous system neurons.

Boundary-induced phase transitions are one of the surprising phenomena appearing in nonequilibrium systems. These transitions have been found in driven systems, especially the asymmetric simple exclusion process. However, so far no direct observations of this phenomenon in real systems exists. Here we present evidence for the appearance of such a nonequilibrium phase transition in traffic flow occurring on highways in the vicinity of on- and off-ramps. Measurements on a German motorway close to Cologne show a first-order nonequilibrium phase transition between a free-flow phase and a congested phase. It is induced by the interplay of density waves (caused by an on-ramp) and a shock wave moving on the motorway. The negative symptoms of schizophrenia remain a major clinical challenge. Reboxetine is an antidepressant whose major mechanism of action is as a noradrenergic reuptake inhibitor. This study was a 6-week randomized placebo-controlled trial of reboxetine or placebo add on to haloperidol 5 mg in the treatment of 30 patients with DSM-IV schizophrenia. The trial failed to demonstrate any significant difference between the placebo and reboxetine groups on any of the outcome measures. This trial does not suggest that increased noradreneregic drive mediated by reuptake inhibition in patients taking dopamine antagonists is of therapeutic value in schizophrenia.

Mice homozygous for specific deletions around the albino locus on chromosome 7 die within the first few hours of birth. They have a complex phenotype in liver and kidney, which includes multiple changes in gene expression and ultrastructural abnormalities. On the basis of this phenotype, it was proposed that these deletions remove a regulatory locus, alf or hsdr-1. Recently, we and others showed that the gene for fumarylacetoacetate hydrolase (Fah), an enzyme involved in tyrosine catabolism, was disrupted by the lethal albino deletion c14CoS. The finding that the Fah gene in wild-type mice is highly expressed only in cell types that develop a phenotype in mutants, and the fact that Fah deficiency determines the human liver disease hereditary tyrosinemia type 1 (HT1), suggested that disruption of the Fah gene was responsible for the lethal albino phenotype. To test this hypothesis, we have created lines of mice carrying Fah transgenes. We find that c14CoS homozygotes which express transgenic Fah are complemented for all aspects of the complex lethal albino phenotype. Moreover, the degree to which the phenotype is corrected depends on the level of transgenic Fah expression. These results unequivocally establish Fah as the gene mapping at alf/hsdr-1 and prove that the phenotype depends ultimately on the blockage of tyrosine metabolism. Finally, they suggest lethal albino mice as an animal model for HT1.
