Abstract: It is believed that degenerative conditions that give rise to neurological diseases may share an abnormal influx of Ca2+, mainly through glutamate receptors. Current research on the glutamatergic system indicates that the N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor (NMDAR) is not the only receptor permeable to Ca2+. Under certain conditions, α-amino-3-hydroxy-5-methyl-4-isoxazolepropionic acid receptors (AMPARs) are able to rapidly and potently mediate a neurotoxic Ca2+ influx. AMPARs are encoded by four genes designated GluR 1-4. The presence of the edited GluA2 subunit makes the heteromeric AMPAR impermeable to Ca2+ (CI-AMPAR's). On the other hand, the lack of GluA2 or disruptions in its post-translational editing result in Ca2+-permeable AMPA receptors (CP-AMPARs). In addition to triggering behavioral changes, the increase in CP-AMPARs is documented in several neurodegenerative, neuroinflammatory and neurotoxic conditions, demonstrating that AMPAR changes may play a role in the emergence and evolution of pathological conditions of the central nervous system (CNS). Seeking to better understand how CP-AMPARs influence CNS neuropathology, and how it may serve as a pharmacological target for future molecules, in this article, we summarize and discuss studies investigating changes in the composition of AMPARs and their cellular and molecular effects, to improve the understanding of the therapeutic potential of the CP-AMPAR in neurodegenerative, neurotoxic and neuroinflammatory diseases.

Saxifraga sponhemica ist ein seltenes mitteleuropäisches Glazialrelikt, zu dem bisher kein Originalmaterial bekannt war. In den Herbarien des Staatlichen Museums für Naturkunde in Karlsruhe (KR) und der Botanischen Staatssammlung München (M) wurde kürzlich Originalmaterial zu den beiden von Gmelin publizierten Namen S. sponhemica und S. condensata gefunden. Die Belege werden diskutiert und beide Namen lectotypisiert, im Fall von S. sponhemica macht das nachgewiesene Originalmaterial den bisherigen Neotypus überflüssig.

Durchflusszytometrische Ploidiebestimmungen von untersuchten Senecio-Arten lassen auf Tetraploidie schließen. S. aquaticus aus dem Alpenvorland wies geringere relative DNA-Gehalte als Pflanzen aus anderen Gebieten auf. Messungen von Scrophularia umbrosa s. l. bestätigen und ergänzen die bisher bekannte Verbreitung von S. neesii und S. umbrosa s. str. in Deutschland. Messungen von Aira ergaben keinen Hinweis auf ein Vorkommen von A. multiculmis an den untersuchten Standorten.

The pandemic of the new coronavirus influenced professors’ social and professional behaviors due to the restrictive measures of social isolation. The study aimed to identify the perception of teachers about the feeling of well-being, socioeconomic conditions, professionals and family relationships in the face of the challenges imposed in the initial period of the Covid-19 pandemic. A total of 340 Brazilian university professors participated. Data collection was carried out using a Google Forms questionnaire, consisting of 23 questions. As for the profile of professors, most were female (56.5%), white (93.5%) and the age group from 50 to 59 years (37%) was more prevalent. Most teachers (54.9%) positively evaluated municipal public policies to face the Covid-19 pandemic. About the feeling of well-being and pleasure of living, more than a third were satisfied, but leisure activities were impaired (66.7%). Regarding family relationships, 68.2% reported satisfaction, as well as the perception that post-pandemic life will be permanently changed (79.7%). The establishment of institutional guidelines for the implementation of wellness programs in the workplace can reduce the health risks and absenteeism of this professional category.

ZusammenfassungDie „aktuelle“ Krebsregistermeldung, wie sie im Jahr 2015 in Deutschland verpflichtend eingeführt wurde, hat ihren Ausgangpunkt auch im Nationalen Krebsplan aus dem Jahr 2008. Weitere Meilensteine sind das Bundeskrebsregisterdatengesetz (2009), das Krebsfrüherkennungs- und -registergesetz (2013), der einheitliche Onkologische Basisdatensatz (2014/2021) mit den Modulen (z.B. Modul Prostatakarzinom 2017) sowie das Gesetz zur Zusammenführung von Krebsregisterdaten (2021). Deutsche Uro-Onkologen (d-uo) hatten bereits Anfang 2017 die Idee, eine Dokumentationsplattform zu konzipieren, mit der die Mitglieder von d-uo einerseits die Meldung an das Krebsregister ermöglicht wird und andererseits Daten in die eigene Datenbank von d-uo überführt werden können – ohne doppelten Aufwand. Das Krebsregister vergütet die Erstmeldung einer Tumorerkrankung mit 18€. Als weiterhin einziger Anbieter vergütet d-uo seinen Mitgliedern den mit der zusätzlichen Meldung an d-uo verbunden Dokumentationsaufwand mit weiteren 18€. Zusätzlich zum Onkologischen Basisdatensatz wurden weitere Parameter von d-uo definiert. Diese Daten werden im Rahmen der sogenannten VERSUS-Studie erhoben, ausgewertet und interpretiert. Die Erkenntnis, dass die Parameter des Basisdatensatzes in ihrer Aussagefähigkeit limitiert sind, hat seitens d-uo zur Etablierung der beiden Nationalen Register Urothelkarzinom (UroNAT) und Prostatakarzinom (ProNAT) geführt. Damit unterstreicht d-uo seine führende Position in der uro-onkologischen Versorgungsforschung in Deutschland.

Ende 2022 waren 14834 Patienten mit einer neu diagnostizierten Tumorerkrankung aus dem urologischen Gebiet in die VERSUS-Studie eingeschlossen. Knapp zwei Drittel aller Patienten hatten ein Prostatakarzinom. Etwa die Hälfte aller Patienten mit einem Prostatakarzinom war im Rahmen einer Früherkennungsmaßnahme aufgefallen. Diese Patienten hatten dann auch günstigere Tumorstadien. Insgesamt hatte fast jeder achte Patient bei Erstdiagnose bereits Metastasen. Aus der VERSUS-Studie Daten für 2167 Operationen eines Prostatakarzinoms mit der Tumorkategorie T2 oder T3 zur Verfügung. Es handelte sich um 1360 Operationen bei Patienten mit einem T2-Tumor (62,8%) und 807 Operationen bei Patienten mit T3-Tumoren (37,2%). Ein positiver Absetzungsrand lag bei 25,5% aller operierten Patienten. Bezogen auf die Tumorkategorien T2 und T3 lag der Anteil eines positiven Absetzungsrandes bei 14,3% bzw. 44,2%. Die VERSUS-Studie wird weiterhin zu vielen Fragestellungen aus dem uro-onkologischen Feld Antworten mit Bezug zur aktuellen Versorgungsituation in Deutschland liefern.

ZusammenfassungDeutsche Uro-Onkologen e.V. (d-uo) verfolgen das Ziel, über die Dokumentation und wissenschaftliche Analyse der ambulanten Versorgung urologischer Tumorerkrankungen hinaus auch qualitätssichernde Maßnahmen sowie die Vertretung ökonomischer und sozialpolitischer Interessen der niedergelassenen Uro-Onkolog*innen in Deutschland zu organisieren. Nachdem das Nationale Register Urothelkarzinom (UroNAT) seit Oktober 2021 aktiv ist, steht nun seit Oktober 2022 auch das Nationale Register Prostatakarzinom (ProNAT) von d-uo zur Verfügung. An diesen deutschlandweit geführten Registern können alle uro-onkologischen Behandler mitwirken, also Urolog*innen, Onkolog*innen und Krankenhäuser über ihre Klinikambulanzen. Mit diesen Nationalen Tumorregistern wird d-uo erneut seinem Anspruch auf profunde Datenerhebung gerecht.

Deliberative Verfahren sind regelmäßiger Bestandteil der Entscheidungsfindung über Neu- und Ausbauprojekte im Schienenfernverkehr. Die subjektiven Einschätzungen aus 29 Interviews mit Verfahrensbeteiligten und viele Hintergrundgespräche und teilnehmende Beobachtungen zeigen, dass der Hauptzweck der Verfahren in der Praxis im Ausgleich von Wissensdifferenzen gesehen wird. Dabei konzentrieren sich die Vorhabenträger vor allem auf die Kommunikation politischer, rechtlicher, technischer, ökonomischer und ökologischer Planungshintergründe. Für lokal Betroffene können die Verfahren die Möglichkeit bieten, subjektives Wissen über soziale Raumstrukturen zu kommunizieren. Die materiellen Effekte deliberativer Verfahren in der Infrastrukturpolitik sind oft gering. Eine wichtige Bedeutung liegt in der Vermeidung von Eskalationsprozessen. Dafür ist zentral, dass die Verfahren vor einer konfliktverschärfenden Personalisierung des Prozesses beginnen und dass sie so strukturiert sind, dass gegenseitiges Vertrauen der Beteiligten gefördert wird.

Decarbonization of sugar factories for minimising the CO2-footprint has become a focus for sugar factories to survive in the contemporary world. Heat pumps can be a piece of the puzzle for meeting the challenge of elaborating the path to a green future. This paper explains the technological principles and shows some exemplary scenarios for integrating heat pumps into beet sugar factories. The scenarios demonstrate reductions between 2% and 30% of the total factory’s CO2-emissions. The potentials are limited by the local electricity-gas-price-relationship, which defines a lower limit in regards to operating costs equality.

Speleothem deposits in nowadays arid environments are important climate archives, as they indicate phases of enhanced precipitation and can precisely be dated by uranium-series dating. So far only very few of such archives have been found in the today hyper-arid Saharo-Arabian Desert (SAD). Therefore, the study at hand fills a gap that exists for speleothem climate archives in Northeast Africa. A new record from Saqia Cave (Central Eastern Desert, Egypt) documents for the first-time speleothem growth in Egypt for all sub-stages of MIS 5 and singular phases during MIS 6. Most important growth phases occur during periods of strong increase and maximum orbitally-forced northern hemisphere insolation, but also during phases of low insolation, which are in general attributed to aridity in North Africa. Here, at least semi-arid climate conditions are proposed for periods of low insolation during stadials of MIS 5. This suggests an impact of different possible sources of precipitation, apart from large scale shifts of the African monsoon, such as Red Sea Troughs, tropical plums and a larger spatial extent of the Mediterranean winter-rainfall zone. Concerning the spatial rainfall pattern in Egypt, we propose a considerable east to west rainfall gradient in Egypt for the Last Interglacial and suggest a stronger impact of variable moisture sources in the Eastern Desert near the Mediterranean and Red Sea in comparison to the more continental Western Desert of Egypt. This reveals more favorable pre-conditions for an enhanced land use potential in the past. Therefore, the more sustaining wetter climate in the Eastern Desert point to a recurring feasible dispersal corridor for Homo sapiens from the tropical climate into the temperate climate regime throughout MIS 5. Such a more humid climate provided an ideal basis for long-term, favorable environmental conditions east of the Nile Valley, creating a kind of contiguous landscape corridor that may have been attractive to humans and wildlife alike, linking the East African tropical climate regime with that of the temperate zone in Northeast Africa and Eurasia.

Since 2014, a holistic telemedicine system is part of the emergency medical service (EMS) in Aachen (Germany). This study aims to examine whether the decisions to immobilize or not by EMS- and tele-EMS physicians are based on NEXUS and the CSR, as well as the guideline adherence concerning the choice of immobilization device.Methods: A single-site retrospective chart review was undertaken. Inclusion criteria were EMS physician and tele-EMS physician protocols with traumatic diagnoses. Matched pairs were formed, using age, sex and working diagnoses as matching criteria. The primary outcome parameters were the criteria documented as well as the immobilization device used. The evaluation of the decision to immobilize based on the criteria documented was defined as secondary outcome parameter.Results: Of a total of 247 patients, 34% (n = 84) were immobilized in the EMS physician group and 32.79% (n = 81) in the tele-EMS physician group. In both groups, less than 7% NEXUS or CSR criteria were documented completely. The decision to immobilize or not was appropriately implemented in 127 (51%) in the EMS-physician and in 135 (54, 66%) in the tele-EMS physician group. Immobilization without indication was performed significantly more often by tele-EMS physicians (6.88% vs 2.02%). A significantly better guideline adherence was found in the tele-EMS physician group, preferring the vacuum mattress (25, 1% vs 8.9%) over the spineboard.Conclusion: It could be shown that NEXUS and CSR are not applied regularly, and if so, mostly inconsistently with incomplete documentation by both EMS- and tele-EMS physicians. Zusammenfassung Künstliche Intelligenz im Zusammenhang mit Antisemitismus ist ein vergleichsweiser junger Forschungsbereich. KI-basierte Ansätze sollen vor allem in der Untersuchung des Antisemitismus im WEB 2.0 zum Einsatz kommen. Der Beitrag möchte insgesamt in den Zusammenhang von Künstlicher Intelligenz, Antisemitismus und WEB 2.0 einführen. Dabei sollen auch Missverständnisse bezüglich dieses Zusammenhangs aufgedeckt werden.

Definition of the problem This article critically addresses the conceptualization of trust in the ethical discussion on artificial intelligence (AI) in the specific context of social robots in care. First, we attempt to define in which respect we can speak of ‘social’ robots and how their ‘social affordances’ affect the human propensity to trust in human–robot interaction. Against this background, we examine the use of the concept of ‘trust’ and ‘trustworthiness’ with respect to the guidelines and recommendations of the High-Level Expert Group on AI of the European Union. Arguments Trust is analyzed as a multidimensional concept and phenomenon that must be primarily understood as departing from trusting as a human functioning and capability. To trust is an essential part of the human basic capability to form relations with others. We further want to discuss the concept of responsivity which has been established in phenomenological research as a foundational structure of the relation between the self and the other. We argue that trust and trusting as a capability is fundamentally responsive and needs responsive others to be realized. An understanding of responsivity is thus crucial to conceptualize trusting in the ethical framework of human flourishing. We apply a phenomenological–anthropological analysis to explore the link between certain qualities of social robots that construct responsiveness and thereby simulate responsivity and the human propensity to trust. Conclusion Against this background, we want to critically ask whether the concept of trustworthiness in social human–robot interaction could be misguided because of the limited ethical demands that the constructed responsiveness of social robots is able to answer to.

International audience; Ice losses from the Greenland and Antarctic ice sheets have accelerated since the 1990s, accounting for a significant increase in the global mean sea level. Here, we present a new 29-year record of ice sheet mass balance from 1992 to 2020 from the Ice Sheet Mass Balance Inter-comparison Exercise (IMBIE). We compare and combine 50 independent estimates of ice sheet mass balance derived from satellite observations of temporal changes in ice sheet flow, in ice sheet volume, and in Earth's gravity field. Between 1992 and 2020, the ice sheets contributed 21.0±1.9 mm to global mean sea level, with the rate of mass loss rising from 105 Gt yr−1 between 1992 and 1996 to 372 Gt yr−1 between 2016 and 2020. In Greenland, the rate of mass loss is 169±9 Gt yr−1 between 1992 and 2020, but there are large inter-annual variations in mass balance, with mass loss ranging from 86 Gt yr−1 in 2017 to 444 Gt yr−1 in 2019 due to large variability in surface mass balance. In Antarctica, ice losses continue to be dominated by mass loss from West Antarctica (82±9 Gt yr−1) and, to a lesser extent, from the Antarctic Peninsula (13±5 Gt yr−1). East Antarctica remains close to a state of balance, with a small gain of 3±15 Gt yr−1, but is the most uncertain component of Antarctica's mass balance. This manuscript investigates the rotational mechanical impedance of the human hand–arm system with respect to vibration excitation around the gripping axis of the hand under the influence of body posture, gripping force, and push force. Knowledge of rotational mechanical impedance is required for deriving models of hand–arm biodynamics. These models are used in the validation of power tools to predict further vibrational human–machine interactions. In the current state of research, such models exist for translational but not rotational vibration excitation. Consequently, this study investigates the properties of a hand–arm system with respect to rotational vibration excitation. In the study, the rotational impedance of the hand–arm systems of 13 adults was measured at various gripping and push forces applied in different body postures. The setup of the test used in this study consisted of a shaker that applied rotational vibrations at certain frequencies to the subjects’ hand–arm systems via a cylindrical handle. The results of the study indicate a spring–damper dynamic of the hand–arm system. The gripping force strongly influences the magnitude of rotational impedance across the frequency spectrum. Regarding push force and posture, no corresponding influence could be determined. The results suggest that the frictional contact between the hand and handle might confer a damping effect.

ZusammenfassungEin 50-jähriger Patient stellte sich mit Odynophagie und nächtlicher Dyspnoe bei einer bestätigten Affenpocken-Infektion vor. Klinisch zeigten sich eine Läsion am Zungenrand ohne Hautbefall sowie eine fibrinbelegte Tonsille mit Weichgaumenasymmetrie nach rechts. Aufgrund eines in der Computertomographie(CT)-Bildgebung gesicherten Abszesses erfolgte eine Tonsillektomie à chaud. Mittels Pan-Orthopox-spezifischer Polymerasekettenreaktion (PCR) wurde die Infektion auch im Tonsillengewebe bestätigt. Isolierte orale Befunde können eine Affenpocken-Infektion darstellen und stellen bei Risikopatienten eine aktuell wichtige Differenzialdiagnose dar.

La educación virtual fue la herramienta que el mundo académico universitario implementó para responder a los desafíos que trajo consigo la pandemia por COVID-19. La UPAP, al igual que todas las instituciones universitarias importantes del Paraguay, se ha adaptado y ha apostado por la plataforma CANVAS, con la que ha hecho posible que la formación académica profesional, en las distintas carreras de grado y en las diferentes regiones del país, sigan desarrollándose con cierta normalidad. La investigación tuvo como objetivo describir la experiencia del alumnado de dos años con clases presenciales y clases virtuales de las distintas carreras de grado en las diferentes regiones donde está instalada la universidad. Específicamente, se indagó con respecto al desarrollo pedagógico en la educación virtual y un posible retorno a la presencialidad ¿qué prefieren los alumnos? Se aplicó una encuesta a 415 alumnos de las carreras, tomando en cuenta 12 filiales de las 48 que posee la institución. Se discuten los resultados tomando en cuenta que se visibiliza una buena aceptación de la modalidad virtual, no obstante, la presencialidad es la más preferida seguida de la modalidad semipresencial.

Am 21. Februar 2023 hat der russische Präsident seine jährliche "Botschaft an die Föderalversammlung" vorgetragen. Das war seine Gelegenheit, der Gesellschaft seine Einschätzung der Lage und seine Vorstellungen über die zukünftige Politik vorzustellen, und dem Ausland Russlands Absichten im internationalen Raum zu verdeutlichen. Angesichts des Krieges, den Russland gegen die Ukraine führt, hatte der Präsident einiges zu erklären. Er zog sich aber auf bekannte Begründungen ("Alleinschuld des Westens") zurück. Innenpolitisch beschränkte er sich auf die Ankündigung verbesserter Sozialleistungen. All das war wenig visionär. Die einzige Überraschung war die Suspendierung der Gespräche über eine Fortsetzung des New START-Vertrages.

ZusammenfassungDie Quellenhomöopathie beschreibt einen Weg der Anamneseerhebung und Mittelfindung. Dabei zieht sie ihre Informationen aus dem, was der Patient selbst als Wissen in seinem Unterbewusstsein trägt. Sie folgt den scheinbar belanglosen Unregelmäßigkeiten im Fluss der Worte des Patienten, spiegelt sie ihm zurück, bis das Arzneimittel deutlicher hervortritt. Ergänzt wird die theoretische Einführung durch 2 Fallbeispiele.
