Abstract

Air purifier filters utilize fine sieves that filter particles out of the circulating air. As air flows into the air purifier, the finer the sieve inside of the air purifier, the smaller the particles it will trap. High Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA) filters are the benchmark for air purifier filters, which are guaranteed to trap 99.97% of airborne particles larger than 0.3 microns in size. Microns are the standard unit that is used to measure the size of particles in the air. Each micron is equivalent to 1/25,400 of an inch. The naked eye cannot see anything that is smaller than 10 microns in size, so pollutants like bacteria and viruses escape detection. HEPA filters efficiently remove smaller-sized allergens like dust, smoke, chemicals, asbestos, pollen, and pet dander. Room air conditioner filters can only capture particles 10.0 microns or larger, so they are not as efficient as air purifier filters for cleaning the air. HEPA filters are designed to capture particles as small as 0.3 microns, including pollen, dust mites, and pet dander. Activated carbon filters are effective at removing odors and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from the air. UV-C light is used to kill bacteria and viruses that may be present in the air. Air purifiers come in a variety of sizes and styles, ranging from small portable units to larger models that can purify the air in an entire building. Some air purifiers are designed for specific purposes, such as removing cigarette smoke or pet odours. Air purifiers are essential devices that help improve indoor air quality by removing harmful contaminants. They can be used in a variety of settings to reduce the risk of respiratory problems and improve overall health. With the advancement of technology, air purifiers have become more efficient and effective in removing harmful pollutants from the air we breathe.

4. Endodontic management of curved canals in mandibular molars- A case series

Abstract

A tooth with a straight root canal and a single foramen is the exception rather than the rule. Most of the canals have multiple curvatures along their length, which poses difficulty in root canal instrumentation. Because of the presence of curved canals in mandibular molars, Endodontic treatment is very challenging. Curved canals have been found to be relatively higher in mandibular molars, ranging from 3.3 to 30.92% when compared to maxillary molars. Constricted canals and curvatures introduce factors that can increase the risk of procedural errors during root canal preparation. A thorough assessment of the preoperative radiographs, careful and a meticulous approach can yield into a safe and a successful endodontic treatment of such teeth. The current case series presents two such interesting cases of endodontic management of curved canals in mandibular molars.

Abstract

Introduction Acute kidney injury (AKI) has been identified as one of the most common and significant problems in hospitalized patients with COVID-19. However, studies examining the relationship between COVID-19 and AKI in low- and low-middle income countries (LLMIC) are lacking. Given that AKI is known to carry a higher mortality rate in these countries, it is important to understand differences in this population. Methods This prospective, observational study examines the AKI incidence and characteristics of 32,210 patients with COVID-19 from 49 countries across all income levels who were admitted to an intensive care unit during their hospital stay. Results Among patients with COVID-19 admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU), AKI incidence was highest in patients in LLMIC, followed by patients in upper-middle income countries (UMIC) and high-income countries (HIC) (53%, 38%, and 30%, respectively), whereas dialysis rates were lowest among patients with AKI from LLMIC and highest among those from HIC (27% vs. 45%). Patients with AKI in LLMIC had the largest proportion of community-acquired AKI (CA-AKI) and highest rate of in-hospital death (79% vs. 54% in HIC and 66% in UMIC). The association between AKI, being from LLMIC and in-hospital death persisted even after adjusting for disease severity. Conclusions AKI is a particularly devastating complication of COVID-19 among patients from poorer nations where the gaps in accessibility and quality of healthcare delivery have a major impact on patient outcomes.

Abstract

Aims: The screening of antimycobacterial benzo[ d]thiazole-2-carboxamides against ATP-phosphoribosyl transferase (ATP-PRTase) was conducted. Materials & methods: The antitubercular potential of compounds 1 and 2 against ATP-PRTase was assessed through the determination of half maximal effective concentration (EC50) and binding constant (Kd), as well as competitive inhibitory studies and studies of perturbation of secondary structure, molecular modeling and L-histidine complementation assay. Results & conclusion: Compounds 1n and 2a significantly inhibited ATP-PRTase as evidenced by their EC50 and Kd values and the perturbation of the secondary structure study. Compound 1n exhibited stronger competitive inhibition toward ATP compared with 2a. The inhibition of the growth of Mycobacterium tuberculosis by targeting the L-histidine biosynthesis pathway and molecular modeling studies further supported the inhibition of ATP-PRTase.

Abstract

Oral immunotherapy (OIT) leads to suppression of mast cell and basophil degranulation along with changes in the adaptive immune response.This study aimed to determine how rapidly these effects occur during OIT and more broadly, the kinetics of basophil and mast cell suppression throughout the course of therapy.Twenty participants, age 4 to 12 years, were enrolled in a peanut OIT trial and assessed for desensitization and sustained unresponsiveness after 9 months of therapy. Blood was collected 5 times in the first month and then intermittently throughout to quantify immunoglobulins and assess basophil activation by CD63, CD203c, and phosphorylated SYK (pSYK).Twelve of 16 participants that completed the trial were desensitized after OIT, with 9 achieving sustained unresponsiveness after discontinuing OIT for 4 weeks. Basophil hyporesponsiveness, defined by lower CD63 expression, was detected as early as day 90. pSYK was correlated with CD63 expression, and there was a significant decrease in pSYK by day 250. CD203c expression remained unchanged throughout therapy. Interestingly, although basophil activation was decreased across the cohort during OIT, basophil activation did not correlate with individual clinical outcomes. Serum peanut-specific IgGSuppression of basophil activation occurs within the first 90 days of peanut OIT, ultimately leading to suppression of signaling through pSYK.

Aims: The present study aimed to assess the mode of action of previously reported anti- Mycobacterium tuberculosis benzo[ d]imidazole-2-carboxamides against FtsZ along with their antibacterial potential. Materials & methods: The anti-mycobacterial action of benzo[ d]imidazole-2-carboxamides against FtsZ was evaluated using inhibition of Bacillus subtilis 168, light scattering assay, circular dichroism spectroscopy, in silico molecular docking and molecular dynamics simulations. Results & conclusion: Three compounds (1k, 1o and 1e) were active against isoniazid-resistant strains. Four compounds (1h, 1i, 1o and 4h) showed >70% inhibition against B. subtilis 168. Compound 1o was the most potent inhibitor (91 ± 5% inhibition) of B. subtilis 168 FtsZ and perturbed its secondary structure. Molecular docking and molecular dynamics simulation of complexed 1o suggested M. tuberculosis FtsZ as a possible target for antitubercular activity.

Nitrous oxide is a frequently used inhalation anaesthetic in dentistry as it is known to provide anxiolysis, mild analgesia, and amnesia. 17. Cardiac Arrhythmias in Patients with Myocarditis in the Post-COVID-19 Period

Abstract

To date, several cardiotropic viruses have been implicated as causes of myocarditis. The most detected are parvovirus B19, and human herpes virus 6. Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) are the respiratory viruses that have recently triggered the unprecedented pandemic process. The involvement and impact of these viruses in viral cardiovascular disease are under study. Despite extensive research into the pathological mechanisms of viral infections of the cardiovascular system, our knowledge regarding their treatment and management is still incomplete. A condition caused by post- Co rona Virus Disease (COVID-19) myocarditis seems to have distinct inflammatory characteristics. Many kinds of arrhythmias may occur in patients with post-COVID-19 myocarditis and result in arrhythmogenic cardio-myopathy and sudden cardiac death. Sometimes arrhythmia can be the first and only symptom of myocarditis. However, compared to the other clinical presentations, arrhythmic myocarditis has been poorly described in the literature. The increased risk of arrhythmias in patients with a post-COVID-19 period is most likely a consequence of systemic inflammation and diseases, not just a direct consequence of the viral infection. A decrease in heart rate variability can contribute to electrical instability of the myocardium and the occurrence of arrhythmias. Cardiac magnetic resonance imaging and endomyocardial biopsy are the most useful tests for myocarditis. However, different from the other clinical presentations, arrhythmic myocarditis requires specific diagnostic, prognostic, and therapeutic considerations. This review aims to critically summarize the state of the art on myocarditis presenting with arrhythmias in terms of epidemiology, aetiology, diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment. 18. Diagnostic and Prognostic Analysis of Serological and Bio-chemical Markers in Patients with COVID-19: A Retrospective Study

Abstract

The Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic caused by the Severe Acute Respira-tory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) became a challenge globally by affecting mil-lions of people worldwide. Lung injury is the main outcome of COVID-19 infection; how-ever, damage can occur in other organs including the liver. Currently, limited data is available that link underlying liver injury with the severe SARS-CoV-2 infection. This study aimed to investigate the changes in levels of liver enzymes in COVID-19 patients. We con-ducted a retrospective analysis of the medical reports of 90 admitted patients with confirmed COVID-19 in the Infectious Disease, AIDS and Clinical Immunology Research Centre, Georgia from march 2020 till August 2020. The study showed that among 90 pa-tients with COVID-19, 24.4% (n=22) had abnormally elevated levels of liver enzymes. The presence of abnormal liver tests became more pronounced during hospitalization within 2 weeks, with 18.8% (n=17) patients having elevated alanine aminotransferase (ALT) levels, and 12.2% (n=11) patients having elevated aspartate aminotransferase (AST) levels. Con-siderably raised levels of liver enzymes were observed in 17.8% (n=16) older males. The hepatitis C virus antibody test and hepatitis B virus antigen test were performed in all pa-tients and only two patients were detected with positive result of hepatitis C and hepatitis B tests. Our study indicates that patients with abnormal liver tests were at higher risk of progressing to severe COVID-19. Abstract

Murder and Culpable Homicide are similar to each other, but they are not identical to each other. Section 299 deals with Culpable Homicide and Section 300 explain the concept of Murder. There is a very thin difference between Murder and Culpable Homicide. It becomes difficult to differentiate between them because both concepts represent “The killing of death”. Murder defines that the intentionally killing of a human being which in itself is sufficient to cause the death of a person whereas Culpable Homicide explains that the act is done with the intention of causing death which is likely to cause the death of a person. It is a common understanding that “Every Murder is Culpable Homicide but all Culpable Homicide are not Murder”. In other words, we can say that murder is a part of culpable homicide i.e. Culpable Homicide is regarded as a genus whereas Murder is species.

Abstract

Topical drug delivery can be defining as good delivery system for drugs, in which drug directly get interact with skin and give its pharmacological effect to desired site to cure and treat variety of disorder. Gel has major disadvantage because it cannot prepare for hydrophobic drugs this type of limitation can be defeated by emulgel. Emulgel have dual property like emulsion and gel and gives dual release system. Primary disadvantage of lipophilic drug that it does not dissolves in aqueous solvent and cause problem in drug delivery. Emulgels gives a good advantage over gel that hydrophobic drugs are easily dissolve in oil phase and then added in aqueous phase to form w/o type emulsion. These emulgel then incorporate into gel to form emulgel. Emulgel are good carrier for topical delivery of lipophilic drugs and have several advantages over different drug delivery system. Emulgel give better patient compliance and promote controlled pattern of drug delivery due to presence of cross linked structure of gelling agent. Emulgels formulations can be used for anti-inflammatory, analgesic, antifungal, acne, skin disorder and also in form of cosmetic products.

Abstract

This review aims to provide an expert consensus statement to address the role of gene-panel testing in the diagnosis, prognosis and management of adult myelodysplastic syndrome/myeloproliferative neoplasm overlap syndromes (MDS/MPN) in Australia. This consensus statement was developed by an expert group, actively involved in gene panel testing in the area of MDS/MPN in Australia. This work was led by the chairs of the MDS (A/Prof A. Enjeti) and MPN (A/Prof D. Ross) working parties of the Australasian Leukaemia and Lymphoma Group (ALLG). The authors were selected after an expression of interest process on the basis of active laboratory involvement in gene panel testing, a specific demonstrated interest in MDS/MPN and/or publication record in this field. The authors were then allocated sections for literature review to identify the specific genes of interest for each MDS/MPN entity. At least two authors reviewed each section and an overarching diagnostic algorithm was developed by a consensus amongst all authors.

Abstract

This study investigates the heat and mass transfer of magnetohydrodynamic nanofluids via the Riga plate subjected to convective boundary conditions, including the thermal radiation parameter. Utilizing variable thermal conductivity and mixed convection effects, the heat transfer process is investigated. The peculiarity of the flow model enables us to investigate the importance of thermophoresis and Brownian motion to the kinetics of Newtonian fluids. The governing partial differential equations are converted into non-dimensional ordinary differential equations using proper similarity transformations and numerically solved using bvp4c in Matlab. The graphs explore the effects of pertinent parameters on the transference of heat, mass and velocity profiles. As the Biot number [Formula: see text] increases, so does the thermal boundary layer. The Nusselt number intensifies with radiation parameter but decreases with intensifying magnetic field parameter [Formula: see text], Eckert number [Formula: see text] and Brownian motion parameter [Formula: see text]. The influence of several physical quantities is illustrated and displayed through graphs and tables. Furthermore, it is observed that the thickness of the temperature profile is increased by combining the Biot number, the thermal radiation parameter, the thermal conductivity parameter and the modified Hartmann number.

Abstract

Despite commendable progress in control of malaria in India and other countries, there are hidden reservoirs of parasites in human hosts that continually feed malaria transmission. Submicroscopic infections are a significant proportion in low-endemic settings like India, and these infections possess transmission potential. Hence, these reservoirs of infection add to the existing roadblocks for malaria elimination. It is crucial that this submerged burden of malaria is detected and treated to curtail further transmission. The currently used diagnostic tools, including the so-called “gold standard” microscopy, are incapable of detecting these submicroscopic infections and thus are suboptimal. It is an opportune time to usher in more sensitive molecular tools like polymerase chain reaction (PCR) for routine diagnosis at all levels of healthcare as an additional diagnostic tool in routine settings. PCR assays have been developed into user-friendly formats for field diagnostics and are near-point-of-collection. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic in India, these are being used rampantly across the country. The facilities created for COVID-19 diagnosis can easily be co-opted and harnessed for malaria diagnosis to augment surveillance by the inclusion of molecular techniques like PCR in the routine national malaria control program.

Severe acute respiratory syndrome-CoV-2 was declared as a pandemic by the World Health Organization in March 2020. The virus belongs to the family Coronaviridae and causes infection of varying severity ranging from mild respiratory tract infection to severe pneumonia or acute respiratory disease syndrome. Several laboratory parameters are deranged in COVID-19 infection. The gold standard of diagnosis of COVID-19 infection is polymerase chain reaction (PCR) from the nasopharyngeal and oropharyngeal swab. However, at remote places, where PCR reports are made available to patients after a time gap laboratory parameters may guide the treating physician regarding diagnosis, disease severity, and prognosis.

Abstract

Comparative analysis of herbivory responsive miRNAs between pod borer susceptible C. cajan and its resistant Crop Wild Relative (CWR) C. scarabaeoides revealed miRNA-based regulation of defense genes and plant-insect interactions. Gram pod borer (Helicoverpa armigera) is one of most devastating pests of pigeon pea (Cajanus cajan) worldwide, responsible for huge losses in crop productivity. The lack of genes conferring resistance to pod borer in pigeon pea has proven to be a bottleneck for its improvement. One of its CWR, C. scarabaeoides has demonstrated resistance to this pest and can be exploited for developing pest resistant crop varieties. Differences in expression patterns of herbivory responsive microRNAs in the susceptible C. cajan and resistant C. scarabaeoides after different time duration of pod borer infestation (2 h, 8 h and 18 h) were identified, characterized and functionally validated to understand their role in insect defense response. A total of 462 conserved and 449 novel miRNAs and 273 conserved and 185 novel miRNAs, were identified in C. cajan and C. scarabaeoides, respectively. Among the identified miRNAs, 65, 68 and 65 miRNAs were found to be differentially expressing between the C. scarabaeoides and C. cajan libraries 2 h, 8 h and 18 h post infestation, respectively. These miRNAs were found to target genes involved in a number of pathways contributing to defense and acquired resistance in C. scarabaeoides against pod borer, indicating miRNA-based regulation of defense pathways. Expression patterns of eight of these miRNAs were validated by qRT-PCR. This study provides novel insights into the miRNA-mediated plant-insect interactions and the mechanisms of regulatory pathways involved in insect defense. These findings can be utilized for further exploring the mechanism of herbivore defense in plant systems.

Abstract

UHPLC/ESI/MS/MS profiling followed by bioactivity guided isolation of Pseudevernia furfuracea (P. furfuracea) extract yielded two polyphenolic molecules, Methyl haematommate (PF-1) and Atraric acid (PF-2). These molecules were evaluated for bioactivity against five cancerous cell lines. The results revealed that atraric acid showed significant activity against ovarian cancer cell line (PA-1) having GI50 at 16.42 µg/mL and moderate activity against the breast cancer cell line (MCF-7), having GI50 at 64.35 µg/mL. The results were further supported by in silico molecular docking studies of atraric acid with the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) tyrosine kinase protein. The study revealed that atraric acid has the capacity to act as a potential EGFR inhibitor via occupying the ATP binding pocket of EGFR and making favourable electrostatic interactions and van der Waals interaction with its key residues. Our results highlight P. furfuracea and its polyphenolic compound, atraric acid as a promising candidate for ovarian cancer management.
