Accurate measurements of actual evapotranspiration (ETa) play an important role in understanding land surface processes and agricultural management. Two of the most commonly used and established methods for quantifying ETa are eddy covariance (EC) and weighable lysimeters measurements. Previous studies on hourly or daily basis indicated sometimes large differences between the ETa of the two methods (Δly-EC). It is still unclear which factors influence these differences. Here, we examine and compare half-hourly ETa measurements from EC (ETEC) and weighable lysimeters (ETly) at four different sites. The four sites span a climatic gradient from humid conditions at a pre-alpine (Fendt, DE) and a mid-mountain grassland (Rollesbroich, DE) to semi-arid conditions at two sites with a natural grass and shrub (Els Plans, ES) and a tree-grass ecosystem (Majadas de Tiétar, ES). We used a boosted regression tree method to identify environmental drivers of Δly-EC during day and night at the half-hourly resolution.Our results revealed that substantial differences were found with a mean annual Δly-EC of 117 mm, and Δly-EC displayed obvious spatiotemporal variabilities across the sites. Energy balance non-closure of EC was found to be the most important factor contributing to the large annual Δly-EC, especially at Majadas de Tiétar site. With the distinct climatic gradient, Δly-EC was negatively correlated with mean annual wind speed and vapor pressure deficit when they reached a specific level. Monthly ETEC and ETly agreed well with Δly-EC peaking in summer at the sites in Germany, while Δly-EC peaked earlier due to the different climate in Spain. Differences in grass height caused by field management and EC footprint also affected Δly-EC, especially at daily timescales for the pre-alpine and the mid-mountain grassland ecosystem. The relative impacts of different environmental variables to half-hourly ETEC and ETly were almost the same with soil water content (SWC) being more important for nighttime ETly. Meanwhile, we found that the dominant controlling factors of daytime Δly-EC changed with climatic conditions, but nighttime Δly-EC were mainly regulated by SWC. These findings provide a critical evaluation for the roles of climatic and land surface conditions on turbulent flux dynamics from different measurements, which has important implications for ecosystem water and energy balance.

Osteoarthritis (OA) gradually affects all joint tissues. Chondrocytes participate in osteoarthritis. However, the role and mechanism of MiR-144-3p on chondrocytes during the development of OA has not been elucidated. OA patients and normal bone and articular cartilage tissues were collected to measure MiR-144-3p level by Real-time PCR. Chondrocytes were divided into control group, LPS group (1 μg/ml lipopolysaccharide (LPS) was added to establish an osteoarthritis (OA) stimulation model, and MiR-144-3p inhibitor group which was transfected with MiR-144-3p inhibitor followed by analysis of cell proliferation by MTT, Caspase 3 activity, Wnt/β-catenin signaling protein expression by Western blot and TNF-α and IL-6 secretion by ELISA. MiR-144-3p was significantly upregulated in OA patients (P β-catenin signaling protein decreased, and TNF-α and IL-6 secretion increased (P β-catenin signaling protein expression, and reduce TNF-α and IL-6 secretion (P β-catenin signaling pathway.

Separation of dyes and antibiotics is particularly important in wastewater treatment. In this work, the hydrophilic modified polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) membranes were prepared by deposition of halloysite nanotubes (HNTs), tannic acid (TA) and ferric chloride (FeCl3). The surface morphology of the modified membranes was studied using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM). In addition, the Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) were used to evaluate the chemical compositions of the membrane. The measurements of water contact angle (CA) and pure water flux (Jw) show that the PVDF membrane has excellent permeability and hydrophilicity. The PVDF modified membrane has good separation performance for dyes, and the rejection ratios of methyl orange, methylene blue and rhodamine B were 98.2%, 94.6% and 96.9%, respectively. In addition, the rejection ratios of modified membrane for tetracyclines and bisphenol A were significantly improved. Most important of all, the TA-Fe(III)/HNTs/PVDF membrane has excellent antifouling performance after cycles tests. These results indicate that the TA-Fe(III)/HNTs/PVDF modified membranes have a great application prospect in dye and antibiotic wastewater treatment.

Background To investigate the clinical characteristics of essential hypertension (EH) and altitude-related hypertension (ARH) hospitalized in Qinghai, and to provide the relevant information for the prevention and treatment of ARH. Methods A total of 1,987 hypertensive patients from 3.0 to 4.5 km altitude areas, and hospitalized in Qinghai Cardio-Cerebrovascular Hospital were enrolled. Among them, 165 patients with elevated blood pressure (BP) (systolic BP ≥140 and/or diastolic BP ≥90 mm Hg) at high altitude and normal BP or BP reduction >20/10 mm Hg 2 weeks after arriving at Xining (altitude 2.26 km) were defined as ARH. Results Compared with EH, ARH patients at higher altitude had earlier onset age (48.0 ± 11.5 vs. 54.4 ± 9.8 years, P < 0.001), higher percentage of male patients (77.6% vs. 55.3%, P < 0.001), higher diastolic BP (115.8 ± 18.5 vs. 108.6 ± 15.4 mm Hg, P < 0.001), and lower systolic BP (165.9 ± 21.3 vs. 178.9 ± 24.4 mm Hg, P < 0.001). Erythrocytes, hemoglobin, hematocrit, and uric acid levels were higher in ARH patients than in EH patients (P < 0.05). Echocardiography showed that the right atrial and ventricular diameters were larger in ARH than EH (P < 0.05). The proportion of pulmonary artery hypertension in ARH was higher than EH (9.1% vs. 4.9%, P = 0.020), but there was no significant difference in the target organ damage and clinical complications of hypertension between the 2 groups. Logistic regression analysis showed that male, Han nationality, high-altitude living, elevated hemoglobin and uric acid, and obesity were associated with the occurrence of ARH. Conclusions ARH is prevalent in young and middle-aged men, and is associated with Han nationality, elevated hemoglobin, uric acid, and obesity.

This network meta-analysis was conducted to compare the predictive value of eight SNPs on the efficacy of antidepressants in major depressive disorder (MDD), including 5-HTTLPR, 5HTR2A (rs6311, rs6314, rs7997012 and rs6313), 5HTR2A (rs6295), BDNF (rs6265) and 5HTTSTin2. Databases were searched for related studies published up to December 2019. A total of 16 studies were included in this study. The predictive value were evaluated by the use of the odd ratios (OR) and drawing surface under the cumulative ranking curves (SUCRA). The pairwise meta-analysis indicated that in terms of overall response ratio, the SNPs were not associated with the efficacy of antidepressants in MDD. The result of this network meta-analysis suggested that there was no significant difference in predictive value of eight SNPs on the efficacy of antidepressants in MDD. More research is needed to explore the relationship between SNPs and antidepressant response.

ObjectiveHigh-frequency repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) induces analgesic effects in both experimental pain and clinical pain conditions. However, whether rTMS can modulate sensory and pain thresholds on sensory fibers is still unclear. Here, we compared the effects of three rTMS paradigms on sensory and pain thresholds conducted by different sensory fibers (Aβ, Aδ, and C fibers) with sham stimulation and investigate the potential brain activation using functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS).MethodsForty right-handed healthy subjects were randomly allocated into one of four groups. Each subject received one session rTMS [prolonged continuous theta-burst stimulation (pcTBS), intermittent theta-burst stimulation (iTBS), 10 Hz rTMS or sham]. Current perception threshold (CPT), pain tolerance threshold (PTT), and fNIRS were measured at baseline, immediately after stimulation, and 1 h after stimulation, respectively.ResultsSignificant differences between treatments were observed for changes for CPT 2,000 Hz between baseline and 1 h after rTMS (F = 6.551, P < 0.001): pcTBS versus sham (P = 0.004) and pcTBS versus 10 Hz rTMS (P = 0.007). There were significant difference in average HbO μm in the right frontopolar cortex (FPC) [channel 23: P = 0.030 (pcTBS versus sham: P = 0.036)], left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC) [channel 7: P = 0.006 (pcTBS versus sham: P = 0.004)], left FPC [channel 17: P = 0.014 (pcTBS versus sham: P = 0.046), channel 22: P = 0.004 (pcTBS versus sham: P = 0.004)] comparing four group in 1 h after stimulation in PTT 2000 Hz (Aβ-fiber).ConclusionProlonged continuous theta-burst stimulation can regulate sensitivity on Aβ fibers. In addition, single-session pcTBS placed on left M1 can increase the excitability of DLPFC and FPC, indicating the interaction between M1 and prefrontal cortex may be a potential mechanism of analgesic effect of rTMS. Studies in patients with central post-stroke pain are required to confirm the potential clinical applications of pcTBS.

Arterial media calcification is related to mitochondrial dysfunction. Protective mitophagy delays the progression of vascular calcification. We previously reported that lactate accelerates osteoblastic phenotype transition of VSMC through BNIP3-mediated mitophagy suppression. In this study, we investigated the specific links between lactate, mitochondrial homeostasis, and vascular calcification. Ex vivo, alizarin S red and von Kossa staining in addition to measurement of calcium content, RUNX2, and BMP-2 protein levels revealed that lactate accelerated arterial media calcification. We demonstrated that lactate induced mitochondrial fission and apoptosis in aortas, whereas mitophagy was suppressed. In VSMCs, lactate increased NR4A1 expression, leading to activation of DNA-PKcs and p53. Lactate induced Drp1 migration to the mitochondria and enhanced mitochondrial fission through NR4A1. Western blot analysis of LC3-II and p62 and mRFP-GFP-LC3 adenovirus detection showed that NR4A1 knockdown was involved in enhanced autophagy flux. Furthermore, NR4A1 inhibited BNIP3-related mitophagy, which was confirmed by TOMM20 and BNIP3 protein levels, and LC3-II co-localization with TOMM20. The excessive fission and deficient mitophagy damaged mitochondrial structure and impaired respiratory function, determined by mPTP opening rate, mitochondrial membrane potential, mitochondrial morphology under TEM, ATP production, and OCR, which was reversed by NR4A1 silencing. Mechanistically, lactate enhanced fission but halted mitophagy via activation of the NR4A1/DNA-PKcs/p53 pathway, evoking apoptosis, finally accelerating osteoblastic phenotype transition of VSMC and calcium deposition. This study suggests that the NR4A1/DNA-PKcs/p53 pathway is involved in the mechanism by which lactate accelerates vascular calcification, partly through excessive Drp-mediated mitochondrial fission and BNIP3-related mitophagy deficiency.

Herein, a composite membrane was synthesized by adding β-cyclodextrin modified Fe3O4/GO (β-MGO) to polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF), in the presence or absence of magnetic field via the combination of magnetic field induction and phase conversion techniques. FT-IR, Raman, XRD, TEM, XPS and hysteresis loop results indicate β-MGO was synthesized successfully. By analyzing the characterization results of the membrane, β-MGO can be adsorbed onto the surface of the membrane under magnetic field (M-β-MGO) conditions. The changes of pure water flux, BSA rejection, hydrophilicity, porosity, pore size and anti-pollution performance of M-β-MGO and β-MGO membrane were discussed with the content of β-MGO. The M-β-MGO membrane shows the best performance when the β-MGO content is 0.7%. In addition, our experimental results on the removal of heavy metal Cu2+ show that after five cycles, the rejection rate and adsorption capacity of Cu2+ are still as high as 75% and 0.94 mg/g. Meanwhile, it is find that pH > 6 can significantly increase the removal rate of Cu2+, and the membrane is suitable for removing Cu2+ concentrations below 30 mg/L. Therefore, this study presents a novel strategy for developing high-performance hybrid membranes via manipulating the migration of nanomaterials to the membrane surface.

The novel Bi2WO6/r-GO/Bi25FeO40 Z-scheme system composite photocatalyst was synthesized by hydrothermal method. The crystal structure, elemental composition, surface morphology, optical and photoelectrochemical properties of the synthesized composite photocatalyst were tested. Compared with pure Bi2WO6, Bi25FeO40 and Bi2WO6/Bi25FeO40, Bi2WO6/r-GO/Bi25FeO40 composite photocatalyst has good degradation effect on methylene blue under visible light irradiation for 30 min. The synthetic Bi2WO6/r-GO/Bi25FeO40 photocatalyst norfloxacin also has a certain degradation capacity. The effects of catalyst dosage and norfloxacin concentration on the degradation were investigated. The catalytic mechanism of Bi2WO6/r-GO/Bi25FeO40 composite photocatalyst can be well explained by the Z-scheme system. The results show that the effective charge separation, better light absorption and larger surface area of Bi2WO6/r-GO/Bi25FeO40 composite photocatalyst contribute to excellent photocatalytic performance.

Osteogenic differentiation of VSMC is one of the main causes of diabetic vascular calcification, and AGEs accumulation accelerates the calcification of VSMCs in diabetic patients. Autophagy has also been found to play an important role in the process of vascular calcification. However, the potential link between AGEs, autophagy and vascular calcification is still unclear and was investigated in this study. Primary VSMCs were isolated from the thoracic aorta of Sprague Dawley rats and cultured with AGEs-BSA to induce osteogenic differentiation. VSMCs calcification was evaluated by measuring the calcium content, RUNX2 protein levels, and by Alizarin red S staining. We demonstrated that treatment of VSMCs with AGE-BSA increased the expression of HIF-1α and PDK4. AGE-BSA treatment increased LC3-II and decreased p62 protein levels. AGE-BSA exposure enhanced autophagic flux determined by mRFP-GFP-LC3 adenovirus, induced co-localization of LC3-II and LAMP-1, and increased the number of autophagasome under TEM. HIF-1α/PDK4 pathway was activated during AGEs-induced autophagy of VSMCs. In addition, autophagy played a protective role during AGE-induced calcification of VSMCs. In conclusion, AGEs enhance autophagy via the HIF-1α/PDK4 signaling pathway, and autophagy helps attenuate AGE-induced calcification of VSMCs.

Polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) membranes were surface-modified via a simple coating method for improvement of the hydrophilicity performance. In this work, TP/PEI/PVDF modified membrane was successfully prepared by using tea polyphenol as a multifunctional coating. The physicochemical properties of membranes were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray energy-dispersive spectrometry, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy scanning electron microscopy and atomic force microscopy. The water contact angle, pure water flux and methylene blue rejection ratio of membranes were investigated in detail. Compared with the pristine membrane, the water contact angle of the modified membrane decreased to 48.8°, and the rejection ratios were increased to 95.2% when the modified membrane was used to separate methylene blue. In addition, the modified membrane showed excellent antifouling performance in the experiment, and the flux recovery ratio still reached 84.6% after three fouling/washing cycles. In the oxidation experiment, the modified membranes were immersed in KMnO4 solution for 6 h, and the results show that the water contact angle, pure water flux and methylene blue rejection of the modified membranes only have changed slightly. Therefore, this study could have a great potential for widening the application of membranes in the treatment of dye wastewater containing oxidants.

Although cigarette smoking is an independent risk factor for cardiovascular disease, inconsistent results have been published in the literature on its impacts on the cardiovascular health of patients after coronary revascularization with a percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) or coronary artery bypass graft (CABG). We performed a comprehensive electronic database search through July 2018. Studies reporting the risk estimates of all-cause mortality and cardiovascular outcomes in patients after coronary revascularization with PCI or CABG on the basis of smoking status were selected. Multivariate-adjusted relative risks (RRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were pooled using random-effects models with inverse variance weighting. Data from 37 records including 126 901 participants were finally collected. Overall, the pooled RR (95% CI) associated with cigarette smoking was 1.26 (95% CI: 1.09-1.47) for all-cause mortality, 1.08 (95% CI: 0.92-1.28) for major adverse cardiovascular events, 0.96 (95% CI: 0.69-1.35) for cardiovascular mortality and 1.15 (95% CI: 0.81-1.64) for myocardial infarction. The increased risk of all-cause mortality was also observed in former smokers compared with those who had never smoked (RR: 1.19; 95% CI: 1.03-1.38). Furthermore, the negative effects of cigarette smoking on all-cause mortality were also observed in most subgroups. Cigarette smoking has been shown to increase the likelihood of all-cause mortality in patients after coronary revascularization with PCI or CABG. Smoking cessation is essential for PCI or CABG patients to manage their coronary artery disease.

A novel Bi2MoO6/reduced graphene oxide/BiOBr (Bi2MoO6/RGO/BiOBr) composite was successfully synthesized via a facile solvothermal synthesis and precipitation method. The Bi2MoO6/RGO/BiOBr composite was characterized by X-ray diffraction, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, UV–vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (UV–vis DRS) and photoelectrochemical measurements. The photocatalytic properties were explored for removal of methylene blue (MB) and norfloxacin (NFX) under visible-light irradiation. The Bi2MoO6/RGO/BiOBr composite exhibits the highest degradation rate compared with Bi2MoO6, BiOBr and Bi2MoO6/BiOBr composite, and that removal ratios of MB and NFX were 96.93% and 78.12%, respectively. A Z-scheme catalytic mechanism suitable for the system was proposed based on the results of UV–vis DRS, free radical trapping experiments and M–S carve analysis, in which RGO as an electronic medium can accelerate electron transfer. It is noteworthy that the close contact interface structure promotes the separation of electrons and holes and improves the photocatalytic performance.

A novel photocatalyst Ag3PO4/PDA (Polydopamine)/r-GO (reduced-graphene oxide) has been successfully prepared by a solvent hydrothermal method. The composite photocatalytic material was characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), Raman spectra, X-ray photoelectron spectrometer (XPS) and X-ray energy dispersive spectrometry (EDS). Ag3PO4/PDA/r-GO showed a significantly enhanced photocatalytic activity in the degradation experiment of MB and RhB aqueous solution compared with pure Ag3PO4. The degradation rates of MB (Methylene blue) and RhB (Rhodamine B) aqueous solution were 96.8% and 92% in the examination with 15 min under visible light, respectively. At the same time the stability of composite material was higher than pure Ag3PO4. The improvement in photocatalytic performance is attributed to the larger specific surface area, higher absorption capability for visible-light, and most important, the r-GO could act as a charge bridge to accelerate the transfer of electron. This work is expected to provide a promising approach for improving the photocatalytic performance and further utilization of photosensitive semiconductors.

Objective The correlation between the signal/noise quotient values of an anterior cruciate ligament graft and the International Knee Documentation Committee Subjective Knee Form 2000 scores after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction was evaluated. Design Magnetic resonance imaging and clinical evaluation using International Knee Documentation Committee scores were used to calculate the signal intensity of the graft maturity at the 6-mo and 12-mo follow-up points postoperatively. The associations between the signal/noise quotient values at the 6-mo follow-up point and International Knee Documentation Committee scores at the 12-mo follow-up point were evaluated. Results A total of 42 male patients completed our trial and returned to normal activity level before the surgery. The mean ± SD age of these patients was 29.07 ± 8.11 yrs (range, 17-47 yrs). The mean ± SD body mass index was 26.00 ± 2.59 kg/m. Notably, the Pearson correlation analysis showed that the International Knee Documentation Committee scores obtained at 12 mos were significantly associated with the signal/noise quotient values measured in the sixth month and twelfth month, respectively (r = -0.454, P = 0.003; r = -0.478, P = 0.001). Conclusions According to this study, early measurement of graft maturity might predict the clinical outcome afterward. The sensitive predictive value of signal/noise quotient could be used to maximize the patient outcomes.

In this work, the versatile filler (HNTs) consisted of a halloysite nanotube as skeleton and intermediate magnetic nanoparticles coating poly(dopamine + 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane) derivate layer were prepared. PVDF membranes were then manufactured by incorporating a series of ratios of HNTs. The Fourier-transform infrared (FT-IR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and transmission electron microscope (TEM) results proved that the modified materials were successfully achieved. The morphologies of membranes were characterized by scanning electron microscope (SEM) and atom force microscope (AFM). Meanwhile the PVDF hybrid membranes exhibited a stronger hydrophilicity (contact angle is 53°), higher bovine serum albumin (BSA) rejection (99%) than pure membrane (87°and 54%), and hybrid membranes maintain a higher flux recovery rate (FRR) that attains 85.3% after two cycles. Besides, the composite membrane showed a good removal rate (97.2%) of methylene blue. According to above experimental parameters, the 6% (based on PVDF mass) HNTs composite membrane was defined as the experimental optimal selection, and it could provide a promising candidate for methylene blue solution separation.

Endothelial cell dysfunction and diabetic vascular complications are intrinsically linked. Although BDNF plays a protective role in cerebral microvascular complications caused by diabetes, the mechanisms of this activity are not fully clear. In this study, we investigated the role of BDNF in the hyperglycemic injury of BMECs and its associated intracellular signal transduction pathways. BMECs were treated with 33 mM glucose to imitate the endothelium under hyperglycemic conditions. The high-glucose treatment caused cell dysfunction, as evaluated by oxidative stress and cell apoptosis, which could be alleviated by BDNF. In addition, BDNF preserved mitochondrial function as assessed by mPTP opening, mitochondrial membrane potential, calcium content, and mitochondrial biogenesis markers. Western blot analysis of LC3-II, p62, and TOMM20 and the detection of mRFP-GFP-LC3 adenovirus for autophagy flux revealed that BDNF enhanced autophagy flux. Furthermore, BDNF activated mitophagy, which was confirmed by the observed colocalization of LC3-II with BNIP3 and from transmission electron microscopy observations. The HIF-1α/BNIP3 signaling pathway was associated with BDNF/TrkB-induced mitophagy. In addition, BDNF-induced mitophagy played a protective role against BMEC damage under hyperglycemia. Thus, the results of this study suggest that BDNF/TrkB/HIF-1α/BNIP3-mediated mitophagy protects BMECs from hyperglycemia.

Understanding daytime (ETD) and nighttime (ETN) evapotranspiration is critical for accurately evaluating terrestrial water and carbon cycles. However, unlike ETD, the factors influencing ETN remain poorly understood. Here, long-term ETD and ETN data from five FLUXNET sites along a climate gradient in Northern Australia were analyzed to compare their responses to environmental drivers at different temporal scales. Across the sites, mean annual ETN/ETD ranged between 5.1% and 11.7%, which was mainly determined by ETD variations. Both vegetation and climatic conditions were closely related to mean annual ETD, while the primary controls on mean annual ETN were air temperature and net radiation (Rn). At site levels, monthly ETD and ETN showed better correlations with meteorological and vegetation variables than annual ETD and ETN, and the coupling of ETD and ETN was also stronger at monthly timescales, particularly under drier climatic conditions. At daily timescales, leaf area index and soil water content (SWC) controlled ETD with SWC being more important at drier sites; whereas, SWC was the dominant factor controlling ETN. At half-hourly timescales, the boosted regression tree method quantitively showed that ETD and ETN were controlled by Rn and SWC, respectively. Overall, the results showed that ETN was less responsive to environmental variables, illustrating that ETD and ETN responded differently to diverse climate regimes and ecosystems at varying temporal scales.

Objective The aim of this review is to identify and summarize factors that are associated with public attitudes towards people with various disabilities systematically. Methods An electronic search of three databases was performed (Medline, EMBASE and Cochrane) covering the period from 1950 to present. A comprehensive search strategy was developed and the lists of citations were screened for potential eligible studies. Only quantitative studies using valid measurements were included, and the methodological quality of included studies was appraised based on three criteria (sample, measurement, analysis) by two independent reviewers. Results The initial electronic search yielded 995 articles after duplicates removed, and 27 studies met the eligibility criteria were included in the study. Three categories of the factors were found to be associated with the public attitudes, which are related to the attitude provider, disabled people, and society respectively. Specifically, the more people know about disabilities, the more likely they were to have positive attitude; and the frequency and quality of the contact with the disabled are also proved to be influential to the attitudes. Meanwhile, the type of disability is also closely correlated to the public’s attitude towards the disabilities. Conclusion People’s knowledge of the disability and their contact with individuals with disabilities are the main influential factors in public attitudes towards persons with disabilities.

BACKGROUND Diabetic wound (DW) treatment is a serious challenge for clinicians, and the underlying mechanisms of DWs remain elusive. We sought to identify the critical genes in the development of DWs and provide potential targets for DW therapies. MATERIAL AND METHODS Datasets of GSE38396 from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database were reviewed. Pathway analysis was performed using the Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG), Gene Ontology term analyses were carried out, and Cytoscape software (Cytoscape 3.7.2) was used to construct the protein interaction network. Serum samples from patients with diabetes and control participants were collected, and the expression of estrogen receptor 1 (ESR1) was measured by quantitative reverse-transcription polymerase chain reaction. In addition, the function of ESR1 in human skin fibroblasts was investigated in vitro. RESULTS Eight samples were analyzed using the Morpheus online tool, which identified 637 upregulated and 448 downregulated differentially expressed genes. The top 5 KEGG pathways of upregulated differentially expressed genes were associated with sphingolipid metabolism, estrogen signaling, ECM-receptor interaction, MAPK signaling, and PI3K-Akt signaling. The hub genes for DWs were JUN, ESR1, CD44, SMARCA4, MMP2, BMP4, GSK3B, WDR5, PTK2, and PTGS2. JUN, MMP2, and ESR1 were the upregulated hub genes, and ESR1 was found to be consistently enriched in DW patients. Inhibition of ESR1 had a stimulative role in human skin fibroblasts. CONCLUSIONS ESR1 was identified as a crucial gene in the development of DWs, which suggests potential therapeutic targets for DW healing.

Mitochondrial abnormalities have long been observed in the development of vascular calcification. Metformin, a member of the biguanide class of antidiabetic drugs, has recently received attention owing to new findings regarding its protective role in cardiovascular disease. Since the precise control of mitochondrial quantity and quality is critical for the survival and function of vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs), maintaining mitochondrial homeostasis may be a potential protective factor for VSMCs against osteoblast-like phenotypic transition. However, limited studies have been reported in this area. Here, we investigated the role of metformin in the phenotypic transformation of VSMCs, as well as its intracellular signal transduction pathways. We demonstrated that supplementation with metformin restored the β-glycerophosphate (β-GP)-mediated impairment of mitochondrial biogenesis in VSMCs, as evidenced by an increased mitochondrial DNA copy number, a restored mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP), and upregulated mitochondrial biogenesis-related gene expression, whereas the AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) inhibitor compound C suppressed these effects. We also observed that overexpression of pyruvate dehydrogenase kinase 4 (PDK4), an important mitochondrial matrix enzyme in cellular energy metabolism, exacerbated β-GP-induced oxidative stress and subsequent apoptosis in VSMCs but that these effects were suppressed by dichloroacetate, a widely reported PDK4 inhibitor. More importantly, enhanced mitochondrial biogenesis attenuated the β-GP-induced phenotypic transformation of VSMCs into an osteogenic phenotype through inhibition of the PDK4/oxidative stress-mediated apoptosis pathway, whereas disruption of mitochondrial biogenesis by zidovudine aggravated β-GP-induced apoptosis in VSMCs. In addition, inhibition of autophagy by small interfering RNA targeting Atg5 reduced mitochondrial biogenesis in VSMCs. In summary, we uncovered a novel mechanism by which metformin attenuates the phenotypic transformation of VSMCs into an osteogenic phenotype via inhibition of the PDK4/oxidative stress-mediated apoptosis pathway, and mitochondrial homeostasis is involved in this process.

Background Obesity, a comorbid medical condition, is usually observed in patients with established coronary artery disease. Paradoxically, patients with a higher body mass index (BMI) usually have better clinical outcomes after coronary revascularization. Methods We searched five online databases through December 2017. We identified studies reporting the rate of all-cause mortality or cardiovascular-related outcomes among patients after coronary revascularization with percutaneous coronary intervention or coronary artery bypass graft based on various BMI categories. Network meta-analysis was performed using Bayesian methods. Results Sixty-five records involving 865,774 participants were included in our study. A U-shaped association was observed across BMI categories for all-cause mortality. Using normal weight as the reference, all-cause mortality was increased for (relative risk [RR]: 2.4; 95% credibility interval [CrI]: 2.1-2.7) patients with underweight, whereas it was lowered in patients with overweight, obese, and severely obese. This association remained significant in many subgroups. We also observed that the risk of major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) was lowest among patients with overweight. Furthermore, patients with underweight were associated with greater risks of myocardial infarction (RR: 1.9; 95% CrI: 1.4-2.5), cardiovascular-related mortality (RR: 2.8; 95% CrI: 1.6-4.7), stroke (RR: 2.0; 95% CrI: 1.3-3.3) and heart failure (RR: 1.7; 95% CrI: 1.1-2.7) compared with normal weight patients; no significant association was observed among individuals with higher BMI. Conclusions The 'obesity paradox' does exist in patients after coronary revascularization, especially for patients with post-percutaneous coronary intervention. All-cause mortality in patients with high BMI is significantly lower compared with patients with normal weight. Furthermore, patients with underweight experience higher rates of cardiovascular outcomes compared with patients with normal weight.

Currently, there is a lack of systematic knowledge concerning carbon (C) biogeochemical cycles in impounded rivers. In this study, we investigated different C species and related environmental factors from July 2007 to June 2008 and from May 2011 to May 2012 in the impounded Wujiang River, SW China to understand the influence of dam construction on the riverine C cycle. The results showed that average concentrations of dissolved CO2, dissolved inorganic C (DIC), dissolved organic C, and particulate organic C (POC) were 81.73 μmol/L, 2283.55 μmol/L, 158.11 μmol/L, and 37.54 μmol/L, respectively. Meanwhile, δ13CDIC ranged from − 10.07‰ to − 4.92‰ with an average of − 8.33‰, while δ13CPOC ranged from − 35.30‰ to − 22.28‰ with an average of − 29.20‰. Thermal and chemical stratifications developed seasonally and exerted a significant influence on the C cycle of the released water. The C species and related δ13C showed remarkable heterogeneity in time and space. Evidence from δ13C demonstrated that the C system in this river was primarily influenced by carbonate weathering, whereas in the reservoir, it was primarily controlled by algal activity. The coefficients of variance for different C species in the reservoir and released water were higher than those in the river. Our study indicated that biological activity became a key controlling factor for the C biogeochemical cycle and accelerated it after damming, especially in the warm seasons. The results of this study have important implications for understanding the C cycle in elongated and deep reservoirs.

Contrast-induced nephropathy (CIN) is the major complication related to contrast media administration in patients after coronary angiography (CAG). However, inconsistent results have been published in the literature regarding the effects of pharmacological drugs on CIN prevention. We conducted a network meta-analysis to evaluate the relative efficacy of pharmacological interventions for the prevention of CIN. We searched MEDLINE, EMBASE, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, and ClinicalTrials.gov from inception to July 2017. We included any randomized controlled trials of eleven pharmacological interventions that reported the prevention of CIN. We identified 3850 records through database searches, of which 107 studies comprising 21,450 participants were finally identified. Compared with intravenous saline, intravenous saline plus pharmacological drugs including statin [relative risk (RR) 0.57; 95% credibility interval (CrI) 0.39 to 0.83], N-acetylcysteine (NAC) (RR 0.84; 95% CrI, 0.71 to 0.98), vitamin and its analogues (RR 0.66; 95% CrI 0.45 to 0.97), brain natriuretic peptide (BNP) and its analogues (RR 0.46; 95% CrI 0.30 to 0.70), prostaglandin analogues (RR 0.37; 95% CrI 0.18 to 0.76), NAC plus sodium bicarbonate (SB) (RR 0.60; 95% CrI 0.39 to 0.90), and statin plus NAC (RR 0.39; 95% CrI 0.21 to 0.70), have helped to reduce the incidence of CIN in patients after CAG. The top four ranked treatments were statin plus NAC, BNP and its analogues, statin, and vitamin and its analogues, respectively. NAC plus intravenous saline was associated with lower incidence of short-term all-cause mortality than intravenous saline alone (RR 0.62; 95% CI, 0.40 to 0.96; P = 0.03). However, no evidence indicated that any of the pharmacological drugs were associated with a reduced requirement for dialysis and major adverse cardiac and cerebrovascular events (MACCE). Statin plus NAC plus intravenous saline seems to be the most effective treatment for the prevention of CIN in patients after CAG. NAC plus intravenous saline may have a protective role against short-term all-cause mortality. However, none of these drugs has effectively decreased the requirement for dialysis and MACCE.

Clustering analysis has been applied in all aspects of data mining. Density-based and grid-based clustering algorithms are used to form clusters from the core points or dense grids to extend to the boundary of the clusters. However, deficiencies are still existed. To find out the right boundary and improve the precision of the cluster, this paper has proposed a new clustering algorithm (named C-USB) based on the skew characteristic of the data distribution in the cluster margin region. The boundary degree calculated by skew degree and the local density are used to distinguish whether a data is an internal point or non-internal point. And the connected matrix is constructed by removing the neighbor relationships of non-internal points from the relationships of all points, then the clusters can be formed by searching from the connected matrix towards internal of the clusters. Experimental results on synthetic and real data sets show that the C-USB has higher accuracy than that of similar algorithms.

Diabetes and vascular calcification are intrinsically linked. We previously reported that advanced glycation end products (AGEs) accelerate calcium deposition in vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs) via excessive oxidative stress. However, the underlying mechanism remains poorly understood. Pyruvate dehydrogenase kinase 4 (PDK4) is an important mitochondrial matrix enzyme in cellular energy metabolism. Since hyperactivation of PDK4 has been reported in calcified vessels and in patients with diabetes mellitus, inhibition of PDK4 expression may be a strategy for the prevention of diabetic vascular calcification. In this study, we used a rat VSMC model to investigate the role of PDK4 in diabetic vascular calcification and further explore the underlying mechanisms. We observed that Nε-carboxymethyl-lysine (CML), which is a major immunogen of AGEs, accelerated calcium deposition in VSMCs through PDK4 activation. An elevated level of reactive oxygen species (ROS) acted as a signal transduction intermediate to increase PDK4 expression. Either inhibition of PDK4 expression or RAGE (receptor for AGEs) blockade attenuated CML-induced VSMC calcification, as shown by decreased alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity and runt-related transcription factor 2 (RUNX2) expression. Glucose consumption and lactate production were increased during CML-induced VSMC calcification. Importantly, CML accelerates glycolysis in VSMCs via a PDK4-dependent pathway. In conclusion, this study demonstrates a novel mechanism by which CML promotes VSMC calcification via PDK4 activation and alters glucose metabolism in VSMCs.

With the development of hydropower in the karst area of Southwest China, a series of cascade canyon reservoirs have been formed through the construction of dams. Given that hydrodynamic conditions in canyon reservoirs play a pivotal role in controlling the spatiotemporal distribution of physical and chemical properties of the stored water, hydrodynamic characteristics are of great importance in understanding biogeochemical cycles in those reservoirs. To further this understanding, a field campaign was conducted in the Wujiangdu Reservoir of Guizhou Province. It was found that from the reservoir inlet to the front of the dam, velocity (v) was negatively correlated and had a logarithmic relationship with distance along the ship track (s) under dry-season flow conditions [v = −0.104ln (s) + 0.4756]. Analysis showed that dry-season flow velocity had no significant correlation with water temperature, pH, or dissolved oxygen (DO). However, when velocity decreased to 0.061 m/s, water depth increased abruptly. In addition, DO displayed a sudden drop and the trend in pH changed from increasing to decreasing, while water temperature showed an opposite trend, indicating the existence of a transition zone from the river to the reservoir.

Clustering is an important technique in data mining. The innovative algorithm proposed in this paper obtains clusters by first identifying boundary points as opposed to existing methods that calculate core cluster points before expanding to the boundary points. To achieve this, an affine space-based boundary detection algorithm was employed to divide data points into cluster boundary and internal points. A connection matrix was then formed by establishing neighbor relationships between internal and boundary points to perform clustering. Our clustering algorithm with an affine space-based boundary detection algorithm accurately detected clusters in datasets with different densities, shapes, and sizes. The algorithm excelled at dealing with high-dimensional datasets.

Aims To systemically review the efficacy and safety of auricular point therapy in patients with cancer-related fatigue. Design A systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials. Data sources Eight electronic databases (PubMed, CENTRAL, Embase, CINAHL, Web of Science, China Biology Medicine, China National Knowledge Infrastructure and WanFang Data Knowledge Service Platform) were explored for randomized controlled trials from their inception to 1 December 2018. Review methods The risk of bias assessment tool was adopted in accordance with Cochrane Handbook 5.3.0. All included studies reported the effects on cancer-related fatigue as the primary outcome. Effect size was estimated using relative risk, standardized mean difference or mean difference with a corresponding 95% confidence interval. Review Manager 5.3 was used for meta-analysis. Results Six studies comprising 394 patients were included. The results of meta-analysis showed that auricular point therapy plus standard care produced more positive effects on cancer-related fatigue and quality of life than standard care alone. It could significantly improve the role, emotional, cognitive, and social functions of patients with cancer-related fatigue. Conclusions Auricular point therapy may be a safe therapy to relieve cancer-related fatigue and enhance the quality of life of patients with cancer. However, the evidence was inconclusive due to limitations on the quantity and quality of included studies. Rigorously designed randomized controlled trials should be conducted to verify the results. Impact Auricular point therapy is a simple and safe therapeutic approach that may alleviate cancer-related fatigue of common complications in patients with cancer and it is worth promoting in the community, family, and hospital. Moreover, the research findings can provide suggestions and inspiration for nurses and researchers to implement the proposal, which is conducive to design more rigorous and high-quality randomized controlled trials.

To overcome the drawback caused by rapid recombination of photogenerated electron-hole pairs, a novel visible-light-driven Bi2WO6/r-GO/Bi25FeO40 Z-scheme photocatalyst was fabricated through the hydrothermal method. The as-prepared sample was analyzed by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Raman spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), electrochemical impedance spectra (EIS), and X-ray photoelectron spectrometer (XPS). At the same time, the photocatalytic performance of ternary material was estimated by degradation of methylene blue (MB) aqueous solution under visible-light irradiation. Bi2WO6/r-GO/Bi25FeO40 displayed a superior photocatalytic performance compared with pure Bi2WO6. A dye degradation rate of 98.1% was appeared in ternary material under a 30-min photocatalytic experiment. r-GO plays an important role in ternary material; it acted as a charge-transfer bridge to accelerate electron transfer from Bi2WO6 to Bi25FeO40. Therefore, the recombination of the photogenerated electron holes of the Bi2WO6 itself was effectively suppressed. Most important, the possible photocatalytic mechanism was evaluated on the basis of UV–vis and PL analysis. This work provides a new idea for the synthesis of new photocatalytic materials with enhanced photocatalytic properties.

To explore the effect of acupuncture at the "reflection points" of affected side on the peripheral facial paralysis in acute phase.Ninety patients with peripheral facial paralysis in acute phase were randomly divided into a reflection group (group A), a conventional acupuncture group (group B) and a physiotherapy group (group C), 30 cases in each group. The same basic medication were given in all three groups. In the group A, acupuncture at "reflection points" of the affected side and local acupoints in acute phase, such as Dicang (ST 4), Jiache (ST 6), Quanliao (SI 18), Xiaguan (ST 7), Yangbai (GB 14), Taiyang (EX-HN 5), etc. were applied. The electroacupuncture was added in the stationary phase, and Zusanli (ST 36) was added in the recovery phase. In the group B, acupuncture at Yifeng (TE 17) of the affected side in acute phase and local acupoints, such as Dicang (ST 4), Jiache (ST 6), Quanliao (SI 18), Xiaguan (ST 7), Yangbai (GB 14), Taiyang (EX-HN 5), etc. were applied. The electroacupuncture was added in the stationary phase, and Zusanli (ST 36) was added in the recovery phase. In the group C, ultrashort wave on Yifeng (TE 17) of the affected side in acute phase was applied, and the treatment in the stationary phase and the recovery phase was the same as the group B. The treatment was given once every day, 5 times as one course for 4 courses. The House-Brackmann (H-B) grading scale, facial disability index scale, the symptom and physical score integral scale were used to score before and after treatment, and the clinical effects of the three groups were compared.After treatment, the functional grade of H-B facial nerve was better than that before treatment in the three groups (Compared with general acupuncture and physiotherapy, acupuncture at the "reflection points" of the affected side on the peripheral facial paralysis in acute phase could shorten the course of treatment and improve the curative effect.

Constructing efficient and green photocatalysts to remove organic pollutants is of great significance to environmental purification. We used the facile one-pot hydrothermal method to couple lamellar SnS2 with RGO and BiOBr to synthesize a novel Z-scheme SnS2/RGO/BiOBr ternary photocatalyst. Compared with the single component, the obtained ternary composite material has enhanced photodegradation activity.It can be concluded that the 0.2SnS2/RGO/BiOBr composite exhibits the best performance, 99.15% methylene blue removed after 15 min irradiation,reaching a 38.9% improvement compared to the pure BiOBr. Besides, the degradation rate of norfloxacin reached 81.6%. The excellent photocatalytic properties were studied by photoluminescence spectroscopy, and a Z-scheme charge transfer mechanism appropriate for SnS2/RGO/BiOBr composite was proposed according to the results of UV–vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy and free radical capture experiments, in which RGO acted as an electron transfer medium to accelerate the transfer of photogenerated electrons between SnS2 and BiOBr, thereby effectively limiting the recombination of photogenerated carriers.

A Fe-1.3% Si non-oriented silicon steel strip was produced by twin-roll strip casting process, and subsequently treated with cold rolling and annealing. The effect of heating rates on the recrystallization and precipitation behavior of second phase particles (AlN and MnS) was investigated by MMS-200 thermal mechanical simulator. It was found that the recrystallization area fraction decreased obviously with the increase of heating rate. At the heating rate of 5 °C/s, the recrystallization rate gradually decreased with the extension of holding time, but it increased at the rapid heating rates. The particle’s sizes mainly concentrated in 50~200 nm at the heating rate of 5 °C/s during annealing. The number of particles under 50nm increased gradually and the number of precipitates between 50~400 nm reduced significantly when the heating rate was increased to 50~300 °C/s. The results indicated that the rapid heating rate could refine the size of precipitates and decrease the number of particles above 50nm.

Angiography and endovascular embolization play an important role in controlling acute arterial upper gastrointestinal hemorrhage, particularly when endoscopic intervention fails to do so. In our case, the patient presented with recurrent life-threatening bleed in spite of multiple prior endoscopic interventions and gastroduodenal artery embolization. Our teaching points focus on the role of angiography in acute upper gastrointestinal bleed and when to conduct empiric embolization, while reviewing the supraduodenal artery as an atypical but important potential culprit for refractory upper gastrointestinal bleed.

Relative contributions from environmental factors to daily actual evapotranspiration (ETa) across a variety of climate zones is a widely open research question, especially regarding the roles played by soil water content ((SWC); water supply) and net radiation ((Rn); energy supply) in controlling ETa. Here, the boosted regression tree method scheme was employed to quantify environmental controls on daily ETa using the global FLUXNET dataset. Similar to the general trend suggested by the Budyko theory at annual scales, the results showed that the relative control of SWC on daily ETa increased with increasing aridity index (Φ); however, Rn played a major role at most FLUXNET sites (roughly Φ < 4), indicating that Rn could be a leading control on daily ETa even at water-limited sites. The variability in the relative controls of SWC and Rn also partly depended on factors affecting water availability for daily ETa (e.g. vegetation characteristics and groundwater depth). Our study showed that other than SWC and Rn, the net effect of environmental controls (particularly leaf area index) on daily ETa was more important at drier sites than at relatively humid sites. This suggests that near-surface hydrological processes are more sensitive to vegetation variations due to their ability to extract deep soil water and enhance ETa, especially under arid and semi-arid climatic conditions. Our findings illustrate how environmental controls on daily ETa change as the climate dries, which has important implications for many scientific disciplines including hydrological, climatic, and agricultural studies.

Atherosclerotic plaque rupture followed by luminal thrombosis is recognized as the main cause of acute cardiovascular events, especially in patients with diabetes. Although previous studies identified stimulation of macrophages polarization with advanced glycation end products (AGEs) results in the rapid progression of atherosclerosis, the underlying mechanisms are not understood fully. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of hypoxia-inducible factor-1α (HIF-1α) and pyruvate dehydrogenase kinase 4 (PDK4), critical proteins for regulating glucose metabolism, on macrophages polarization in diabetic atherosclerosis, and relevant mechanisms involved. We found that there is an increased number of M1 macrophages in carotid atherosclerotic tissues of diabetic mice and in AGE-bovine serum albumin (BSA)-treated RAW264.7 cells. Furthermore, we observed that HIF-1α was upregulated in AGE-BSA-induced M1 polarization and that the HIF-1α knockdown reduced macrophage polarization to M1 phenotype caused by AGE-BSA via regulation of PDK4. Thus, our study identified the critical role of HIF-1α/PDK4 axis in AGE-BSA-induced M1 polarization, which reflected the potential association between energy metabolism and inflammation in macrophages.

Arterial media calcification is one of the major complications of diabetes mellitus, which is related to oxidative stress and apoptosis. Mitophagy is a special regulation of mitochondrial homeostasis and takes control of intracellular ROS generation and apoptotic pathways. High circulating levels of lactate usually accompanies diabetes. The potential link between lactate, mitophagy and vascular calcification is investigated in this study. Lactate treatment accelerated VSMC calcification, evaluated by measuring the calcium content, ALP activity, RUNX2, BMP-2 protein levels, and Alizarin red S staining. Lactate exposure caused excessive intracellular ROS generation and VSMC apoptosis. Lactate also impaired mitochondrial function, determined by mPTP opening rate, mitochondrial membrane potential and mitochondrial biogenesis markers. Western blot analysis of LC3-II and p62 and mRFP-GFP-LC3 adenovirus detection for autophagy flux revealed that lactate blocked autophagy flux. LC3-II co-staining with LAMP-1 and autophagosome quantification revealed lactate inhibited autophagy. Furthermore, lactate inhibited mitophagy, which was confirmed by TOMM20 and BNIP3 protein levels, LC3-II colocalization with BNIP3 and TEM assays. In addition, BNIP3-mediated mitophagy played a protective role against VSMC calcification in the presence of lactate. This study suggests that lactate accelerates osteoblastic phenotype transition of VSMC and calcium deposition partly through the BNIP3-mediated mitophagy deficiency induced oxidative stress and apoptosis.

Germline polymorphisms are linked with differential survival outcomes in cancers but are not well studied in nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). Here, a two‐phase association study is conducted to discover germline polymorphisms that are associated with the prognosis of NPC. The discovery phase includes two consecutive hospital cohorts of patients with NPC from Southern China. Exome‐wide genotypes at 246 173 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) are determined, followed by survival analysis for each SNP under Cox proportional hazard regression model. Candidate SNP is replicated in another two independent cohorts from Southern China and Singapore. Meta‐analysis of all samples (n = 5553) confirms that the presence of rs1131636‐T, located in the 3′‐UTR of RPA1, confers an inferior overall survival (HR = 1.33, 95% CI = 1.20–1.47, P = 6.31 × 10−8). Bioinformatics and biological assays show that rs1131636 has regulatory effects on upstream RPA1. Functional studies further demonstrate that RPA1 promotes the growth, invasion, migration, and radioresistance of NPC cells. Additionally, miR‐1253 is identified as a suppressor for RPA1 expression, likely through regulation of its binding affinity to rs1131636 locus. Collectively, these findings provide a promising biomarker aiding in stratifying patients with poor survival, as well as a potential drug target for NPC., This study reveals a functional germline polymorphism at RPA1 to be associated with survival outcome of patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). The study also shows that RPA1 is able to regulate tumor progression and radioresistance in NPC cells. Together, the study proposes the genetic variation of RPA1 as a promising germline biomarker for precise treatment planning and prognosis of NPC.

In present study, polyaniline/bismuth bromide/zinc ferrite (PANI/BiOBr/ZnFe2O4) was rationally designed and successfully prepared via a facile hydrothermal synthesis method. The crystal structure, chemical composition and morphology of the samples were analyzed by various characterization techniques. The PANI/BiOBr/ZnFe2O4 composite exhibits a higher photocatalytic activity compared with other samples under visible light irradiation. Among all samples, the highest degradation efficiency for RhB over 7% PANI/BiOBr/ZnFe2O4 reach 99.26%. Meanwhile, the composite exhibits an excellent catalytic activity for the reduction of nitrobenzene (NB) under visible light, the conversion efficiency can reach 87.1%. Moreover, the ternary composite still maintains a higher photocatalytic activity after three consecutive uses. Additionally, according to PL spectra and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), the improved photocatalytic performance of PANI/BiOBr/ZnFe2O4 composite can be attributed to the rapid separation and transfer of electron-hole pairs. Finally, the dual Z-scheme electron transfer mechanism suitable for this system was proposed by UV–vis DRS spectra, M-S curves analysis, ESR spectra and free radical capture experiments. This study provides a new research idea for the design and construction of efficient photocatalysts for organic pollutants and other water treatment problems.
