Micrometer-sized PbI2 (P-PbI2) is beneficial for preparing higher-quality perovskite film and solar cells under low humidity conditions. Comparatively, millimeter-sized PbI2 crystals (C-PbI2) allow the growth of denser perovskite films under heavy humidity conditions.

Echinochloa crus-galli var. zelayensis is a troublesome weed in rice fields and can be controlled by using quinclorac. However, over-reliance on quinclorac has resulted in resistant (R) barnyardgrass, which differs significantly in its ability to transport quinclorac compared to susceptible (S) barnyardgrass. Ionic liquids (ILs) have attracted increasing attention since last few decades due to their high molecular design abilities and wide applications in different fields. In this study, four novel fluorescent isoquinolino [2,1-a]quinoxalin-5-ium ILs were designed and synthesized via a two-step process including a simple dual Schiff's base formation and a subsequent [RhCp∗Cl2]2-catalyzed oxidative C–H activation/annulation reaction. The as-synthesized ILs were extensively characterized using FT-IR, 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, 19F-NMR, HSQC-NMR, HMBC-NMR and HR-MS. Their photophysical properties were determined by steady-state fluorescence spectroscopy. The results demonstrate that all these ILs showed dual or triple emissions, large stokes shift (90 nm) and mechanochromic behaviors. Basing on solvatochromism and titration experiments, it is thought that the emission bands of the ILs are raised from their local excited states, charge transfer states or excited state proton transfer of cations, while the substitute effect of these quinoxaline derived ILs on their stokes shifts is negligible.

Implicit authentication for traditional objects, such as doors and dumbbells, has rich applications but is rarely studied. An ongoing trend is that traditional objects are retrofitted to smart environments; for instance, a contact sensor is attached to a door to detect door opening (but cannot tell "who is opening the door"). We present the first accurate implicit-authentication system for retrofitted everyday objects, named MoMatch. It makes an authentication decision based on a single natural object use, unlike prior work that requires shaking objects. MoMatch is built on the observation that an object has a motion typically because a human hand moves it; thus, the object's motion and the legitimate user's hand movement should correlate. The main challenge is, given the small amount of data collected during one object use, how to measure the correlation accurately. We convert the correlation measurement problem into an image comparison problem and resolve it using neural networks successfully. MoMatch does not need to profile the user's biometric information and is resilient to mimicry attacks.

Deep Learning (DL) techniques allow ones to train models from a dataset to solve tasks. DL has attracted much interest given its fancy performance and potential market value, while security issues are amongst the most colossal concerns. However, the DL models may be prone to the membership inference attack, where an attacker determines whether a given sample is from the training dataset. Efforts have been made to hinder the attack but unfortunately, they may lead to a major overhead or impaired usability. In this paper, we propose and implement DAMIA, leveraging Domain Adaptation (DA) as a defense aginist membership inference attacks. Our observation is that during the training process, DA obfuscates the dataset to be protected using another related dataset, and derives a model that underlyingly extracts the features from both datasets. Seeing that the model is obfuscated, membership inference fails, while the extracted features provide supports for usability. Extensive experiments have been conducted to validates our intuition. The model trained by DAMIA has a negligible footprint to the usability. Our experiment also excludes factors that may hinder the performance of DAMIA, providing a potential guideline to vendors and researchers to benefit from our solution in a timely manner.

CCR5 KO kidney transplant (KTx) recipients are extraordinarily high alloantibody producers and develop pathology that mimics human antibody-mediated rejection (AMR). C57BL/6 and CCR5 KO mice (H-2(b)) were transplanted with A/J kidneys (H-2(a)); select cohorts received adoptive cell therapy (ACT) with alloprimed CXCR5(+)CD8(+) T cells (or control cells) on day 5 after KTx. ACT efficacy was evaluated by measuring posttransplant alloantibody, pathology, and allograft survival. Recipients were assessed for quantity of CXCR5(+)CD8(+) T cells and CD8-mediated cytotoxicity to alloprimed IgG(+) B cells. Alloantibody titer in CCR5 KO recipients was four-fold higher than in C57BL/6 recipients. The proportion of alloprimed CXCR5(+)CD8(+) T cells 7 days after KTx in peripheral blood, lymph node, and spleen was substantially lower in CCR5 KO compared to C57BL/6 recipients. In vivo cytotoxicity towards alloprimed IgG(+) B cells was also reduced six-fold in CCR5 KO recipients. ACT with alloprimed CXCR5(+)CD8(+) T cells (but not alloprimed CXCR5(−)CD8(+) or third-party primed CXCR5(+)CD8(+) T cells) substantially reduced alloantibody titer, ameliorated AMR pathology, and prolonged allograft survival. These results indicate that a deficiency in quantity and function of alloprimed CXCR5(+)CD8(+) T cells contributes to high alloantibody and AMR in CCR5 KO recipient mice, which can be rescued with ACT.

Underground coal fire (UCF) is a disaster associated with coal mining activities which occurs in almost all main coal-producing countries. UCF not only burns up massive coal resource, but also causes damages and pollutions to local eco-environment, such as the land subsidence, the contamination to soil and nearby water resource, the pollution to air, and so on. In this presentation, the author attempts to illustrate a comprehensive understanding to UCF from micro and macro perspectives, including the mechanism of UCF occurrence and propagation, the monitoring and early warning of UCF, the efficient advanced materials depressed the UCF and the UCF’s impact on local eco-environment, which is helpful to understanding well of UCF. Methods and technologies which were employed in this study include analyses of the remote sensing data, the TG data, the C13- NMR data, the HRTEM data, the FTIR data, the XRD and XPS data, etc. Necessary models for quantifying UCF occurrence and propagation were established by analyzing the process of UCF. And a novel method was proposed by analyzing the distribution of surface temperature coupled with the NDVI data and InSar data. Some inhibitors were used in this study to depress the proceeds of coal oxidation which is useful to control the UCF. In addition, considering the UCF’s impacts on local eco-environment, coal-fire-induced heavy metal contamination to soil also were investigated which show that the heat effect is a major factor influences the distribution of heavy metal. The coalfield fire area is widespread in the world. Numerous coal resources have been destroyed because of the large-scale coalfield fires. Meanwhile, toxic and harmful substances, such as carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, methane, sulfide, and nitrogen oxide, etc., are numerously generated. All of them threat the local ecological environment and the economic development. The occurrence and evolution processes are complex, challenging the scientific prevention and control for coalfield fire. Gas transport mechanism is one of the key points that influence coalfield fire evolution and its efficient prevention and control. This investigation mainly pays attention to the flow filed in underground coalfield fire area. Combining physical test and numerical simulation, the transition law of the main air supply channel in underground coalfield fire area is studied, and the distribution characteristics of flow field in the channels are revealed. These are of great significance for revealing the evolution process of coalfield fire.

Background: Traditional Chinese medicines exhibit promising preventive effects on Alzheimer’s disease. Chaihu Shugan San (CSS) is a well-known traditional herbal formula whose several kinds of ingredients have the potential of ameliorating Alzheimer’s disease. The present study aimed to evaluate the effects of CSS on the microbiota–gut–brain axis and cognitive deficits of senescence-accelerated mouse prone 8 (SAMP8) mice as well as investigate the underlying mechanisms.Methods: Thirty 5-month-old SAMP8 mice were randomly divided into the model group (SAMP8), CSS low-dose treatment group (CSSL), and CSS high-dose treatment group (CSSH). Ten SAMR1 mice were used as the normal control, and ten SAMP8 mice treated with donepezil were used as the positive control of cognitive function. CSS was orally administrated to SAMP8 mice for 8 weeks. The Morris water maze test was used to evaluate cognitive function. Histological staining was used to observe neuronal injury and Aβ deposition. Transmission electron microscopy was used to observe the synaptic ultrastructure. 16S rRNA gene analysis was performed to measure the changes in intestinal microbiota.Results: The results showed that CSS significantly improved the learning function and memory deficits of aged SAMP8 mice in the Morris water maze examination. CSS ameliorated neuronal injury, synaptic injuries, and Aβ deposition in the brain of SAMP8 mice. In addition, CSS also significantly improved microbiota composition in terms of elevating Lactobacillus reuteri and decreasing Staphylococcus xylosus in the feces of aged SAMP8 mice.Conclusion: These findings suggested that CSS might have a preventive potential for cognitive deficits in aging through regulating gut microbiota, which paved the way for the application of CSS for prevention and therapeutic purposes for mild cognitive impairment as well as Alzheimer’s disease.

As a new green chemical inhibitor, ionic liquids can inhibit spontaneous combustion of coal by dissolving and destroying the active structure in coal. In order to investigate the influence of ionic liquids with different concentrations on the molecular structure and the characteristics of low temperature oxidation kinetics of coal at oxygen-poor environment, taking Wucaiwan coal sample in Zhundong mining area as the research object, the molecular structure model of Wucaiwan coal in Zhundong mining area is constructed, and 1-(2-hydroxyethyl)-3-methylimidazole tetrafluoroborate [HOEtMIm] [BF4] ionic liquid is selected. The effect of ionic liquid on coal is investigated from macroscopic and microscopic levels by means of NMR carbon spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron energy, infrared spectroscopy, thermogravimetry and X-ray diffraction. The results show that different concentrations of [HOEtMIm] [BF4] ionic liquids increase the ignition temperature point and the maximum weight loss rate temperature point of coal samples. The percentage of weight loss in the rapid oxidation stage and the whole combustion process of spontaneous combustion decreases with the increase of ionic liquid concentration. Compared with coal samples treated with other concentrations, the coal samples treated with 15% ionic liquids show good stability, and the fluctuation range of combustion characteristics parameters is small, which shows that high concentration ionic liquids can effectively reduce the influence of temperature on coal samples. Different stages of coal spontaneous combustion oxidation follow different reaction mechanism. The activation energy of the coal samples treated with different concentrations of [HOEtMIm] [BF4] ionic liquids did not change obviously in the evaporation and desorption stages of water, and the flame retardant effect was mainly shown in the oxygen absorption and weight gain stages and thermal decomposition stages. Higher concentration of ionic liquids can make aliphatic, oxygen-containing functional groups and side chains in coal structure fall off , so that the macromolecules of coal are arranged more closely, and the arrangement of organic carbon atoms tends to be oriented and regular gradually. The concentration of ionic liquids changed the polymerization degree of coal macromolecules, and the concentration of ionic liquids was proportional to the polymerization degree of coal macromolecules.

Our understanding of tissue-resident memory T (T RM ) cell biology has been largely developed from acute infection models in which antigen is cleared and sterilizing immunity is achieved. Less is known about T RM cells in the context of chronic antigen persistence and inflammation. We investigated factors that underlie T RM maintenance in a kidney transplantation model in which T RM cells drive rejection. In contrast to acute infection, we found that T RM cells declined markedly in the absence of cognate antigen, antigen presentation, or antigen sensing by the T cells. Depletion of graft-infiltrating dendritic cells or interruption of antigen presentation after T RM cells were established was sufficient to disrupt T RM maintenance and reduce allograft pathology. Likewise, removal of IL-15 transpresentation or of the IL-15 receptor on T cells during T RM maintenance led to a decline in T RM cells, and IL-15 receptor blockade prevented chronic rejection. Therefore, antigen and IL-15 presented by dendritic cells play nonredundant key roles in CD8 T RM cell maintenance in settings of antigen persistence and inflammation. These findings provide insights that could lead to improved treatment of chronic transplant rejection and autoimmunity.

BackgroundWhether serum apolipoprotein B (ApoB) is a risk factor for the development of Chronic kidney disease (CKD) has not been fully established in the general population. Therefore, our study evaluated the correlation between serum ApoB level and CKD to look for an alternative approach for CKD prevention and treatment in the general population.MethodsThere were 146,533 participants in this cross-sectional study. 3,325 participants with more than 2 measurements were enrolled in the retrospective longitudinal study with at least a 3-year follow-up. ApoB was measured by the immunoturbidimetric method in 6 centers. Our study defined CKD as an estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) < 90 mL/min/1.73 m2. The Spearman rank correlation analysis and the Random Forest algorithm were applied to rank the importance of variables determining the levels of eGFR. We used the logistic regression model to explain the correlation between serum ApoB and CKD. We used the Cox model to detect the correlation between baseline serum ApoB and the subsequent occurrence of CKD.ResultsBased on a cross-sectional study, 66.5% of the participants were males, with a median age of 49 (interquartile range [IQR] 43-55). Compared to the non-CKD group, the CKD group has higher levels of lipid profile and fasting glucose as well as the proportion of hypertension and hyperuricemia. The Spearman rank correlation analysis and the Random Forest algorithm revealed that ApoB has the highest correlation with eGFR decline among lipid profiles. The logistic regression analysis revealed that ApoB had a positive correlation with the prevalence of CKD after fully controlling confounders (odds ratio [OR], 1.07; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.02-1.11). Moreover, baseline ApoB level was correlated with a new-onset CKD in the longitudinal cohort after full adjustment for confounding factors (hazard ratio [HR], 1.61; 95% CI: 1.02-2.54). The correlation between ApoB level and the new-onset CKD was consistently observed in all sensitivity analyses.ConclusionSerum ApoB had the strongest correlation with CKD among all lipid variables. Moreover, high serum ApoB levels might precede the occurrence of CKD, suggesting that monitoring and reducing serum ApoB levels may provide an alternative method to prevent and treat CKD.

BackgroundEfficient early detection methods for lung cancer can significantly decrease patient mortality. One promising approach is the use of tumor-associated autoantibodies (TAABs) as a diagnostic tool. In this study, the researchers aimed to evaluate the potential of seven TAABs in detecting lung cancer within a population undergoing routine health examinations. The results of this study could provide valuable insights into the utility of TAABs for lung cancer screening and diagnosis.MethodsIn this study, the serum concentrations of specific antibodies were measured using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) in a cohort of 15,430 subjects. The efficacy of both a 7-TAAB panel and LDCT for lung cancer detection were evaluated through receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analyses, with sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value (PPV), and negative predictive value (NPV) being assessed and compared. These results could have significant implications for the development of improved screening methods for lung cancer.ResultsOver the 12-month observation period, 26 individuals were diagnosed with lung cancer. The 7-TAAB panel demonstrated promising sensitivity (61.5%) and a high degree of specificity (88.5%). The panel’s area under the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was 0.8062, which was superior to that of any individual TAAB. In stage I patients, the sensitivity of the panel was 50%. In our cohort, there was no gender or age bias observed. This 7-TAAB panel showed a sensitivity of approximately 60% in detecting lung cancer, regardless of histological subtype or lesion size. Notably, ground-glass nodules had a higher diagnostic rate than solid nodules (83.3% vs. 36.4%, P = 0.021). The ROC analyses further revealed that the combination of LDCT with the 7-TAAB assay exhibited a significantly superior diagnostic efficacy than LDCT alone.ConclusionIn the context of the study, it was demonstrated that the 7-TAAB panel showed improved detective efficacy of LDCT, thus serving as an effective aid for the detection of lung cancer in real-world scenarios.

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is the most prevalent liver disorder. With the improvement in human living standards, the prevalence of NAFLD has been increasing in recent years. Endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs) are a class of exogenous chemicals that simulate the effects of hormones in the body. There has been growing evidence regarding the potential effects of EDCs on liver health, especially in NAFLD. This paper aims to summarize the major EDCs that contribute to the growing burden of NAFLD and to raise public awareness regarding the hazards posed by EDCs with the objective of reducing the incidence of NAFLD.

BackgroundThe prognosis of patients with peripheral T-cell (PTCL) or lymphoblastic T-cell lymphoma (T-LBL) remains poor under current conditioning regimens before receiving autologous stem cell transplantation (ASCT).MethodsPatients with PTCL or T-LBL were enrolled to receive ASCT using the conditioning regimen of chidamide, cladribine, gemcitabine, and busulfan (ChiCGB). Positron emission tomography-computed tomography (PET/CT) was used to evaluate the response to ASCT. Overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS) were employed to assess the patient outcome, and adverse events were used to assess the regimen’s safety. The survival curve was estimated via the Kaplan-Meier method.ResultsTwenty-five PTCL and 11 T-LBL patients were recruited. The median time to neutrophile and platelet engraftments was 10 days (8–13 days) and 13 days (9–31 days), respectively. The 3-year PFS and OS were 81.3 ± 7.2% and 88.5 ± 5.4% for all patients; 92.0 ± 5.4% and 81.2 ± 8.8% for PTCL patients; and both 81.8 ± 11.6% for T-LBL patients, respectively. The 3-year PFS and OS were both 92.9 ± 4.9% for patients with complete response (CR) but 50.0 ± 17.7% and 75.0 ± 15.3% for patients with non-CR, respectively. Infection was the most common non-hematological toxicity, and all toxicities were mild and controllable.ConclusionsChiCGB was a potentially effective and well-tolerated conditioning regimen to improve the prognosis of patients with aggressive T-cell lymphoma. Future randomized controlled trials are needed to assess ChiCGB as a conditioning regimen for ASCT.

Shaft misalignment will change the gear contact state, and then leads to the variation of the internal stiffness excitation of the gear pair, and finally the dynamic characteristics of the gear system will be affected. However, the influence of the gear contact state change on stiffness is usually neglected in the traditional stiffness calculation model for misaligned gears, and the underlying influence mechanism of the gear contact state changes aroused by the shaft misalignment on the dynamic characteristics of gear system is still unclear. To address these shortcomings, traditional loaded tooth contact analysis (LTCA) model is improved with the influences of fillet foundation deformation taken into consideration. Combined with the improved LTCA model, a new mesh stiffness calculation model for misaligned gear considering the tooth contact state is proposed, and then the effects of the contact state changes aroused by the shaft misalignment on the mesh stiffness excitation are studied. Moreover, a dynamic model of misaligned gear system with 8 degree of freedom (DOF) is established, and the dynamic characteristics of the system are simulated and finally verified by experiment. The results show that the proposed model can be used to evaluate the dynamic characteristics of the misaligned gear system with the change of gear tooth contact state taken into consideration. This study provides a theoretical method for the evaluation and identification of the shaft misalignment error.

Parabens are widely used as preservatives, which have been found to affect thyroid function in toxicological studies. However, population studies on whether they are associated with thyroid tumors remain unclear. This study aims to investigate the relationship between environmental paraben exposure and thyroid cancer and benign nodules. We recruited participants from the Department of Thyroid and Breast Surgery at Wuhan Central Hospital, Wuhan, China. The detectable percentages of methyl paraben, ethyl paraben, and propyl paraben in the urinary samples of 425 study subjects were 99.1%, 95.3%, and 92.0%, respectively. All uncorrected and creatinine-corrected parabens were moderately correlated with one another. After adjusting for possible confounders, all three parabens were associated with an increased risk of thyroid cancer. Furthermore, the mixture pollutant analysis of parabens found positive associations with risk of thyroid cancer (OR = 0.24, 95% CI: 0.18, 0.31) and benign nodules (OR = 1.33, 95% CI: 0.86, 1.80). We observed that individual exposure to paraben mixtures may be associated with the risk of thyroid cancer and benign nodules.

The short-term effects of particulate matter (PM) on years of life lost (YLL) have been confirmed by several studies; however, little attention has been paid to the effects of PM on life expectancy from respiratory diseases (RD), especially at the city level. A generalized additive model (GAM) was used to assess the associations between daily PM and YLL of the RD and chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases (COPD) in Tianjin from 2015 to 2019.
