Objective\ud This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of technological interventions used to improve communication between healthcare professionals (HCPs) and children with long-term conditions (LTCs).\ud \ud Methods\ud PROSPERO: CRD42020221977. Five electronic databases were searched from inception to May 2021 for randomised controlled trials. Study characteristics were described and random-effects meta-analysis was conducted.\ud \ud Results\ud Nineteen studies were included, involving 1995 participants. Technological interventions were found to significantly improve participants’ knowledge of their condition (standardised mean difference [SMD] 0.39; 95% CI 0.07-0.71; p = 0.02) and lead to a more internal health locus of control (SMD 0.50; 95% CI 0.25-0.76; p < 0.0001). There was no statistically significant improvement in physiological measures or emergency healthcare use.\ud \ud Conclusion\ud This systematic review showed some benefits of using technology to improve communication between HCPs and children with LTCs. Future primary research should use rigorous methods for subsequent reviews to draw conclusions with greater confidence in the evidence. Establishing a core outcome set within this field of study would enable consistent measurement of outcomes.\ud \ud Practice implications\ud Our findings indicate value in integrating communication technologies in the child health setting, aiming to establish greater continuity of care and maintain patient-clinician relationships between healthcare visits.

Summary Researchers and practitioners are faced with an exponential increase in the number of systematic reviews (SRs) (with or without meta-analysis), a so-called `secondary' research method that synthesizes data from primary research. This growing number, sometimes with discordant results on the same subject or with non-conclusions, has led to the introduction of the concept of reviews to synthesize SR in order to combine scientific knowledge useful to practitioners. These so-called ``umbrella reviews'' (UR) constitute a new tertiary research tool. Surgical research is no exception to this development but umbrella surgical reviews remain relatively rare. Any UR must be transparent and meet rigorous methodological criteria. The UR could thus provide answers to practical questions in the field of surgery, but only on condition that the bias of the included SRs is limited. Let us not forget that the base requirement of clinical surgical research remains the good methodological quality of clinical studies (primary research). Only thus can SRs or URs (secondary or tertiary research) be more useful and decisive.

Scientific journalism is a critical way in which the public can remain informed and benefit from new scientific findings. Such journalism also shapes the public’s view of the current state of scientific findings and legitimizes experts. Those covering science can only cite and quote a limited number of sources. Sources may be identified by the journalist’s research or by recommendations by other scientists. In both cases, biases may influence who is identified and ultimately included as an expert. We analyzed 22,001 non-research articles published by Nature to quantify possible disparities. Our analysis considered three possible sources of disparity: gender, name origin, and country affiliation. To explore these sources of disparity, we extracted cited authors’ names and affiliations, as well as extracted names of quoted speakers. While citations and quotations within a piece do not reflect the entire information-gathering process, they can provide insight into the demographics of visible sources. We then used the extracted names to predict gender and name origin of the cited authors and speakers. In order to appropriately quantify the level of difference, we must identify a suitable reference set for comparison. We chose first and last authors within primary research articles in Nature and a subset of Springer Nature articles in the same time period as our comparator. In our analysis, we found a skew towards male quotation in Nature journalism-related articles, but quotation is trending toward equal representation at a faster rate than first and last authorship in academic publishing. Interestingly, we found that the gender disparity in quotes was column-dependent, with the “Career Features” column reaching gender parity. Our name origin analysis found a significant over-representation of names with predicted Celtic/English origin and under-representation of names with a predicted East Asian origin. This finding was observed both in extracted quotes and journal citations, but dampened in citations. Finally, we performed an analysis to identify how countries vary in the way that they’re described in scientific journalism. We focused on two groups of countries: countries that are often mentioned in articles, but do not often have affiliated authors cited, and countries that have affiliated authors that are often cited, but the country is not typically mentioned. We found that the articles in which the less cited countries occur tend to have more agricultural, extraction-related, and political terms, whereas articles including highly cited countries have broader scientific terms. This discrepancy indicates a possible lack of regional diversity in the reporting of scientific output.

The conduct of systematic reviews is prevalent across various healthcare disciplines. However, it remains one of the least engaged methodologies in nursing. Increasingly, large numbers of individuals across healthcare are publishing in various mediums, on an annual basis, which has made it difficult for nurses to keep up with primary research evidence. The purpose of this discussion paper is to present a methodology that can be used to search for relevant materials, sort through large volumes of information, and make decisions regarding possible study selection. The intention of this paper is to describe the process involved in mapping out what is known from the existing literature about a specific area of interest, as well as the strategies used to delimit the number and type of materials to be included in a systematic review. An overview of the process of identifying relevant materials to include in a review is presented. Specifically, determining inclusion and exclusion criteria, search strategies, and selecting studies for inclusion in a systematic review are discussed. A case study of an existing systematic review that evaluated interventions for reducing the number of hospital readmissions following heart failure was used to guide this discussion.

TitleResearch Funding for Male Reproductive Health and Infertility in the UK and USA [2016 – 2019]Study questionWhat is the research funding for male reproductive health and infertility in the UK and US between 2016 to 2019?Summary answerThe average funding for a research project in male reproductive health and infertility was not significantly different to that for female-based projects (£653,733 in the UK and $779,707 in the US). However, only 0.07% and 0.83% of government funds from NIHR (UK) and NICHD (USA) was granted for male reproductive health, respectively.What is known alreadyThere is a marked paucity of data on research funding for male reproductive health.Study design, size, durationExamined government databases over a total 4-year period from January 2016 to December 2019.Participants/materials, setting, methodsInformation on the funding provided to male-based and female-based research was collected using public accessed web-databases from the UKRI-GTR, the NIHR’s Open Data Summary, and the US’ NIH RePORT. Funded projects that began research activity between January 2016 to December 2019 were recorded, along with their grant and project details. Strict inclusion-exclusion criteria were followed for both UK and US data with a primary research focus of male infertility, reproductive health and disorders, and contraception development. Funding support was divided into three research groups: male-based, female-based, and not-specified research. Between the 4-year period, the UK is divided into 5 funding periods, starting from 2015/16 to 2019/20, and the US is divided into 5 fiscal years, from 2016 to 2020.Main results and the role of chanceBetween January 2016 to December 2019, UK agencies awarded a total of £11,767,190 to 18 projects for male-based research and £29,850,945 to 40 projects for female-based research. There was no statistically significant difference in funding average between the two research groups (P=0.56, W=392). The US NIH funded 76 projects totaling $59,257,746 for male-based research and 99 projects totaling $83,272,898 for female-based research. There was no statistically significant difference in funding average between the two groups (P=0.83, W=3834).Limitations, reasons for cautionThe findings of this study cannot be used to generalize and reflect global funding trends towards infertility and reproductive health as the data collected followed a narrow funding timeframe from government agencies and only two countries. Other funding sources such as charities, industry and major philanthropic organizations were not evaluated.Wider implications of the findingsThis is the first study examining funding granted by main government research agencies from the UK and US for male reproductive health. Background Bleeding in early pregnancy occurs in approximately a quarter of all pregnancies and is a common reason for presentation to the Emergency Department (ED). This review combined current knowledge about experiences, interventions, outcomes and frequency of women presenting to the ED with per vaginal (PV) bleeding in the first 20 weeks of pregnancy. Methods This integrative literature review was conducted using electronic database and hand searching methods for primary research published from 2000; followed by screening and appraisal. Articles were compared and grouped to identify characteristics and patterns that guided the synthesis of categories. Results Forty-two primary research articles met inclusion criteria. Four main categories related to experiences and outcomes of women with bleeding in early pregnancy presenting to the ED were identified: presentation frequency and characteristics; women and their partners’ experiences in the ED; interventions and treatments; patient and health service outcomes. Conclusions Negative and often frustrating experiences are reported by women experiencing PV bleeding, their partners and ED healthcare providers. While strategies such as early pregnancy assessment services contribute to improved outcomes, the availability of these services vary. Further research is needed to identify specific needs of this group of women and their partners, and the staff providing their care in the ED, to inform strategies for improved quality of care.

Summary Background & aims Nutrition following liberation of mechanical ventilation and throughout acute hospitalisation may be important in aiding recovery. While oral nutrition is the most common mode of nutrition provision in this time period, it is unclear what factors influence oral nutrition intake due to limited research in the area to date. This article outlines the methods for a scoping review to explore and collate reported barriers and facilitators to oral nutrition intake in patients following liberation of mechanical ventilation. Methods A scoping review will be conducted, and the following databases searched: MEDLINE, Embase, Emcare, and CINAHL. Grey literature, including but not limited to conference abstracts and theses will be searched for via ProQuest, Scopus, Web of Science and PsychInfo. Study selection, data extraction and data charting will be conducted by two reviewers. Data will be synthesised into figures and tables, with the COM-B framework providing a structure for grouping themes and findings. Included literature will comprise of primary research studies, reviews and grey literature from 2000 onward, that include critically ill adult patients who have been recruited in an ICU, received a therapy usually delivered in ICU, or had an average length of ICU stay greater than or equal to two days. Studies that report the presence of oral nutrition-related barriers or facilitators following liberation of mechanical ventilation will be considered for inclusion.

PURPOSE To assess the prevalence of positive conflict of interest (COI) disclosures in U.S.-based interventional radiology (IR) research as well as the level of agreement between disclosed financial relationships and open payment data for top-cited image-guided procedure research. MATERIALS AND METHODS All publications in volume 30 (2019) of the Journal of Vascular and Interventional Radiology (JVIR) were reviewed to estimate the prevalence of COI disclosures in IR research. Publications were categorized as primary research, systematic review, or other. Prevalence was then compared across JVIR publication subtype, categories, and whether they were device-focused with chi-squared tests. Additionally, the Web of Science database was searched for the top 10 cited studies of 10 common image-guided procedures with available U.S. physician payment data. BACKGROUND: Fatigue is a common and distressing symptom of heart failure and has important implications for patient-reported and clinical outcomes. Despite being a common and bothersome symptom, fatigue has been understudied in heart failure. OBJECTIVE: To synthesize existing literature on fatigue in heart failure through a systematic literature review guided by the biopsychosocial model of health. METHODS: A systematic search of the literature was performed on March 18(th), 2020, using Pubmed, Embase, and CINAHL. Full-text, primary research articles, written in English, in which fatigue was a primary symptom of interest in adults with a diagnosis of heart failure were included. RESULTS: The search yielded 1138 articles; 33 articles that met inclusion criteria were selected for extraction and synthesis. Biological and psychological factors associated with fatigue were New York Heart Association functional class, hemoglobin level, history of stroke, and depression. However, there are limited HF specific factors linked to fatigue. Social factors related to fatigue included social roles, relationship strain, and loneliness/isolation. Few non-pharmacologic interventions have been tested by show some promise for alleviating fatigue in HF. Studies show conflicting evidence related to the prognostic implications of fatigue. CONCLUSIONS: Important biological correlates of fatigue were identified; however, psychological and social variables were limited to qualitative description. There is need for expanded models to better understand the complex physiologic nature of fatigue in HF. Additionally, more research is needed to 1) define the relationships between fatigue and both psychological and social factors, 2) better describe the prognostic implications of fatigue, and 3) develop more therapeutic approaches to alleviate fatigue with the goal of improving overall quality of life.

There is an international movement towards integrated care. This systema- tized literature review studied healthcare chaplaincy spiritual care interventions that support adult mental health by integrating health and social care. Seventeen relevant studies were found. One analysed individual and family care in a general hospital. Twelve described one-to-one community-based interventions, of which ten concerned general practice healthcare centres. Four involved groups supporting mental health in hospitals or community-centres. Two studies used qualitative approaches, seven quantitative and eight mixed methods. The quality of evidence for the outcomes of interventions was examined. The review found that studies demonstrated shifts in healthcare professionals’ working practices anticipated by Paterson (2014), from hospital towards community bases, from treatment of individuals towards empowering ser- vice users to self-manage their health, and in mental health contexts from treatment of individuals towards care in groups.

This paper tries to identify the significant impact of various demographic factors of consumers on the preferences towards the selection of online banking in day to day life. For that the primary research was conducted by designing the structure questionnaire by asking different open ended and close ended questions to the consumer for the usage of online banking. The findings of the paper is that majority of the consumer belongs to the male having the basic educational qualification of graduation or post-graduation. There is significant difference among few demographic factors with the preferences of consumer towards the online banking. The statistical tools applied for these are frequency distribution, crosstab and chi square test.

Clinical judgment within nursing is best understood as the observable outcome of clinical reasoning and critical thinking. However, clinical judgment is poorly conceptualized and lacks a universal definition within nursing. Clinical judgment, clinical reasoning, and critical thinking have been used interchangeably in practice and literature. The objectives of this scoping review are to (1) investigate the extent, range, and nature of the literature pertaining to clinical judgment; (2) provide a synthesis of the current literature as related to clinical judgment within nursing; and (3) inform future research regarding clinical judgment in nursing. Twenty-four English peer-reviewed literature, including primary research studies, systematic reviews, meta-analyses, and guidelines, were included in this study. The identified literature was charted using a summary table of included sources of evidence from the databases. Four main themes were extracted from the review: (1) Varying definitions of clinical judgment; (2) Clinical Judgment, Experience, and Intuition; (3) Clinical Judgment and Evidence-Based Practice; and (4) Clinical Judgment, Clinical Reasoning, and Critical Thinking. The authors conclude that there are evident discrepancies in the definition of clinical judgment. Clinical judgment in nursing is multifaceted and involves both experiential knowledge as well as evidence-based knowledge.

Background Mentoring is recommended as an intervention to assist nurses in adjusting to the faculty role. While research on academic mentoring for nurse faculty is growing, the findings of this body of research have not been summarized to inform the development of mentoring programs. Purpose The purpose of this integrative review is to summarize and synthesize the research regarding mentoring relationships and mentoring programs in academia for nurse faculty. Method Whittemore and Knafl's (2005) methodology for integrative reviews guided this work. Electronic databases that were searched using the following terms: mentorship, mentors, mentor, nursing faculty, faculty, educational personnel, nurses, nursing, and nursing education. Primary research studies were included that examined mentoring relationships among nurse faculty, mentoring program components, and mentoring outcomes in academia. Results A total of 18 studies were included in the review. Five main topics were identified: (1) prevalence of mentoring programs and relationships, (2) priorities within mentoring programs and relationships, (3) perceived quality of mentoring programs and relationships, (4) outcomes of mentoring programs and relationships, and (5) challenges within mentoring relationships. Conclusion More research is needed to inform nurse faculty and leaders as they design effective mentoring programs and support the development of collaborative and enriching mentoring relationships.

PurposeThe present research aims to analyse the retailer's commitment to sustainable development (RCSD) perceived by the consumers and how it contributes to store equity creation through image, perceived quality and loyalty.Design/methodology/approachA primary research was conducted through a structured questionnaire to analyse the relationships between the variables included in the proposed model. The fieldwork was conducted in 2019, obtaining responses from 617 retail consumers from four cities in Ecuador – Quito, Guayaquil, Cuenca and Machala – obtained. A structural equation model is estimated with the partial least squares technique.FindingsThere is evidence in favour of the contribution of sustainability to store equity. The positive influence of RCSD on perceived quality and the impact of the latter, together with store image, contribute to loyalty, which emerges as a critical construct in building store equity.Research limitations/implicationsSome limitations of the present study – geographic scope limited to Ecuador, analyses restricted to food retailers and pre-COVID-19 data collection – may open new research opportunities replicating the study in other regions for other retail activities and in the post pandemic context.Practical implicationsThe retailer's actions demonstrate a commitment to economic, social and environmental sustainability. As a result of this, the establishment's perceived quality improves, which is of interest to academics and retail management professionals.Originality/valueThe present research provides evidence on the chain of effects that explains the positive contribution of RCSD to store equity creation in grocery retailing.

Purpose: This article aimed to demonstrate the results of research carried out in 2019 on a group of 301 enterprises from the West Pomeranian Voivodeship in Poland and to analyze the differentiation of indications for the involvement of enterprises representing two different scopes of business activity in the implementation of specific actions with regard to employees. Design/Methodology/Approach: The CATI method was used to conduct the research on a group of 301 enterprises from the West Pomeranian Voivodeship in Poland operating in the service sector. The structure of respondents with respect to the scope of their operations, included 150 entities conducting accounting and bookkeeping activities, as well as tax consultancy – RKiDP (PKD 69.2 section) and 151 entities operating in the field of cleaning services – SO (PKD 81.2 section). Findings: The conclusions give indication of a relationship between the selection of specific CSR activities taken with regard to employees and type of business activity. At the same time, for the purpose of seeking a set of initiatives that respond to the specific needs of particular groups of enterprises, the need to broaden the scope of analyses with further examples was recommended. Practical Implications: The grounds to the hypothesis brought forward in this article was research conducted in the aspect of identifying the involvement of enterprises in the implementation of CSR activities undertaken in regard to employees. The frequency distribution of indications of specific initiatives shows a certain dependence of particular choices of the surveyed enterprises on the main criterion determining the scope of their activities. One example are two different groups of companies. Originality/value: The article presents the results of primary research.

Housing is fundamental to the welfare of people and society. On the contrary, housing may impose costs on users as regards their health and quality of life. These costs are not only individual but also social. Studies on the concept of social costs (SCs) related to living conditions of social housing (SH) are scarce, and the concept needs in-depth debates. A systematic literature review (SLR) was conducted to answer the primary research question: What are SCs, and what triggers them? The research specifically aims to identify spatial design factors and construction details of SH, which may cause adverse impacts and social costs and affect households' quality of life. The SLR results are analysed and discussed concerning the major concepts of SCs and social impacts (SIs). The visual representation and organization of data contribute to detailed and in-depth conceptual discussions to understand the factors that can induce actions to improve SH design and upgrading of the existing stock. Most publications emphasise physical and mental health risks. Poor thermal conditions cause illnesses, and depression is prevalent in many housing developments putting pressure on public systems and their health services. Social unrest and family conflict can impose further costs on policing and social assistance. Housing conditions’ cause and effect are rarely detailed in the SC literature, which constitutes a research gap. New housing design, Upgrading or refurbishment initiatives should also effectively increase well-being, reduce environmental impacts, and ultimately contribute towards positive social and technological developments.

The issue associated with the situation of brownfields around the world is a very current topic today. This article focuses on the situation of the existence of brownfields in the Czech Republic. The aim of this article is to assess the current situation of brownfields from the perspective of municipalities and cities in the Czech Republic. The data in the paper were collected by means of a questionnaire applied to towns and villages in the Czech Republic. The existence of brownfields in regions can have a negative impact on the development of the relevant area, such as villages, towns or higher-level administrative units. The research took place from 9 July 2018 to 31 January 2019. The rate of return on the primary research was 43.2% of the respondents. The results showed that brownfields mainly occur in former industrial regions. The predominant form of ownership of abandoned buildings and grounds was private ownership. It can be stated that agricultural, industrial activity and former civic amenities dominated in the previous use. Last but not least, the study points to regional differences that are noticeable between municipalities and cities in individual NUTS 3 regions in connection to the issue of brownfields.

Within the education academic arena, there is almost no established research on the alternative Waldorf (or Steiner) education movement in the US or UK. This primary research investigates Rudolf Steiner’s philosophy of early childhood Waldorf education, and its child-centered and inclusive core. Ten kindergarten teachers in the US and UK educating children ages three through seven were interviewed on their values and practices, and on intrinsic notions of inclusion, which are scrutinized according to Lani Florian's inclusive pedagogy. Contrasting interpretation among practitioners on educating diverse learners emerge. US and UK Waldorf education appear situationally different, and yet the underlying educational ethos fundamentally remains the same. An anthroposophical understanding of the human being, and ‘the will’ of the kindergarten child who learns through imitation and play, underlies this far-sighted, holistic basis. Recommendation is for Waldorf early childhood studies to enhance transnational networks among themselves, and to make connections with broader academic educational clusters, in particular those on inclusion.

This article is a basic quantitative analysis of widowhood and remarriage trends among several Plain churches. When compared to past studies of similar topics, a remarkable consistency of findings across both time and sect can be identified. Bereaved Plain spouses have largely experienced widowhood along separate gender-specific paths, in data sets ranging from 1730 to 2019 and from relatively liberal to traditional communities. Positing that much of Amish and Amish Mennonite society is designed to socialize and retain children, this article offers opportunities for deeper study of the parental roles undergirding that society. The primary research suggestions include spousal function in the context of family life, the various factors influencing the health of bereaved spouses, and the "marriage squeeze" present in many churches. The central data sets used in this study were collected from the 2019 edition of the Amish Mennonite Directory and the 2015 Church Directory of the Lancaster County Amish and Outlying Daughter Settlements. These reference books were sampled on a one-in-five and one-in-three basis, respectively. The resultant widowhood cases were contextualized by widowhood cases from studies by Elmer Lewis Smith and researchers at the University of Maryland School of Medicine.

Background and Objectives Older adults are not regarded as sexual and are widely excluded from sexual violence (SV) research, policies, and practice; little is known about SV against older adults and its prevention. Research Design and Methods An 8-database scoping review explored perceptions of SV against older adults, barriers to prevention, and solutions for prevention. Included were peer-reviewed and gray sources published since 2010, supported by primary research, on perceptions of SV in later life and prevention. A thematic analysis was conducted to explore key themes. Results Of 148 potentially relevant sources returned, 95 were fully read after screening titles and abstracts; 19 were critically appraised and 18 were assessed for analysis. Seven overarching themes emerged, surrounding (a) knowledge and awareness, (b) research, (c) policy changes and development, (d) intersectional prejudice, (e) SV being taboo, (f) sociocultural differences, and (g) confusion regarding the definition and nature of SV. Discussion and Implications These findings offer relevant considerations for practice, policy, and research, which will be further discussed.

Summary Background & aims There is no agreed gold standard method to confirm nasogastric tube position before every use. However, many global guidelines recommend testing the pH of gastric aspirates obtained from an NGT before each use. This study aims to determine whether ongoing pH testing has been shown to reduce adverse events. Secondary aims are to determine how frequently aspirates can be obtained, and how often pH correctly confirms ongoing NGT tip position. Methods Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines were followed and protocol was published on PROSPERO. Keywords were used to search PubMed, Embase, CENTRAL, CINAHL and MEDLINE. Article assessment for inclusion was completed by two independent authors and risk of bias was assessed using ROBINS-I. Results The systematic search and review methodology was followed due to wide variety and high risk of bias in the included studies. One full study and five abstracts met inclusion criteria for the primary aim. The full article contained one instance where pH testing and external NGT length together identified a misplaced NGT. The abstracts identified missed or delayed feeds and medications, and frequent unnecessary X-rays, as negative outcomes of ongoing pH testing. Ten full studies and one conference abstract addressed the secondary aims, but the studies varied widely which prevented meta-analysis and made it difficult to draw conclusions. Conclusions This review confirmed that ongoing pH testing is based on expert opinion due to limited evidence. More primary research is required to determine the clinical impact of ongoing pH testing to confirm NGT position.

Background: As the burden of mental health disorders continues to increase worldwide, there is significant need to describe the cultural variations in presentation, diagnosis and treatment of these diseases. An understanding of these variations can lead to the development of more effective programs to manage these conditions. In Guatemala, depression is the second-leading cause of disability and yet mental health treatment resources are scarce, particularly for indigenous individuals. Aims: The primary research aim was to describe primary care nurses’ explanatory models of depression in their clinical work in indigenous communities in Guatemala. A secondary research aim was to describe training and resources which would support and empower these nurses, in order to lessen risk for burnout. Methods: A cross-sectional mixed methods survey was designed to elicit nurses’ perspectives on the presentation, cause and treatment of depression in the communities they serve, as well as their clinical and emotional comfort in working with depressed individuals. Two subsequent focus groups gathered qualitative commentary which informed training and resource recommendations. Theoretical thematic analysis was used to generate codes and themes from focus group transcripts and survey responses. Results: Guatemalan primary care nurses described symptoms of depression in their cultural context, identified socioeconomic factors which contribute to depression in their communities, and detailed treatment preferences. Limited referral options and concern for privacy made connecting patients to mental health care difficult. Nurses emphasized the need for community education on depression and for supplemental mental health resources which would increase their capacity to identify and treat depression. Conclusions: Primary care nurses in Guatemala identify and treat depression despite limited resources. Further investigations should focus on creating training modalities which include front-line nurses, given their critical role in the health system.

The theoretical framework draws on Critical Race Theory (LADSON-BILLINGS, 1998; FERREIRA, 2014) and Epistemologies of the South (SANTOS, 2014) which provided the basis for data analysis. The methodology for data gathering was autobiographical narratives provided by the informants, who were selected due to their experiences of the subject. The primary research instrument was an online questionnaire, voluntarily and anonymously, answered by the participants. The results show that black people in Brazil face issues of race and racism in their own homes, at schools and universities as students, as well as in their working environments. The discussion is pertinent to the field of Applied Linguistics and Education as it highlights the paramount importance of developing a critical racial literacy at schools, which can address these issues and overcome racism from a variety of perspectives. To evaluate whether the studies contributing to the national treatment guidelines on pelvic organ prolapse adequately represent the racial and/or ethnic makeup of the American population. This analysis examines the racial and ethnic makeup of all primary study cohorts contributing to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists/American Urogynecologic Society Practice Bulletin No. 214 on pelvic organ prolapse. References were excluded if they lacked a primary patient population or were from outside the US. Mean proportional representation of racial/ethnic groups was compared to the 2018 United States Census data on race/ethnicity. The representation quotient was also calculated to evaluate for relative representation of each group. Descriptive statistics were used. Of the 110 references, 53 primary studies were included in the final analysis with 30 studies reporting on race/ethnicity. On average, 82% (SD = 15%) of study populations were White, while Blacks, Hispanics, and Asians represented 67% (SD = 7%), 4% (SD = 8%), and

Assessment is more educationally effective when learners engage with assessment processes and perceive the feedback received as credible. With the goal of optimizing the educational value of assessment in medical education, we mapped the primary literature to identify factors that may affect a learner's perceptions of the credibility of assessment and assessment-generated feedback (i.e., scores or narrative comments). For this scoping review, search strategies were developed and executed in five databases. Eligible articles were primary research studies with medical learners (i.e., medical students to post-graduate fellows) as the focal population, discussed assessment of individual learners, and reported on perceived credibility in the context of assessment or assessment-generated feedback. We identified 4705 articles published between 2000 and November 16, 2020. Abstracts were screened by two reviewers; disagreements were adjudicated by a third reviewer. Full-text review resulted in 80 articles included in this synthesis. We identified three sets of intertwined factors that affect learners' perceived credibility of assessment and assessment-generated feedback: (i) elements of an assessment process, (ii) learners' level of training, and (iii) context of medical education. Medical learners make judgments regarding the credibility of assessments and assessment-generated feedback, which are influenced by a variety of individual, process, and contextual factors. Judgments of credibility appear to influence what information will or will not be used to improve later performance. For assessment to be educationally valuable, design and use of assessment-generated feedback should consider how learners interpret, use, or discount assessment-generated feedback.

This article draws from primary research – including 46 semi-structured interviews – to provide a comparative analysis of Jeremy Corbyn’s leadership of the British Labour Party between 2015 and 2020, and Nichi Vendola’s leadership of the Italian radical left between 2010 and 2015. It is claimed that both cases represent a new form of left politics – which we term pop-socialism – that combines popular-democratic appeals to the ‘people’ with the traditional class-based demands of democratic socialism. This contributes to recent literature on radical left politics and left populism by providing an insight into the underexplored relationship between popular-democratic and class politics. Moreover, the article provides an important empirical account of Corbyn and Vendola’s rapid mobilisation but also their equally abrupt decline.

The present study records and evaluates science-teaching interventions for students with intellectual disability (ID) or Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) at all education levels, for better access to the general curriculum. We conducted a systematic review of the primary research literature published from 2008 to 2018. A total of 24 single-case designs were identified through determined inclusion criteria. The articles were coded based on specific variables, and they were analyzed as a descriptive synthesis. A synthesis was then approached and the PND effect size was calculated. The study concludes that using systematic instruction with supplemental practices and technology support in teaching science to students with ID or ASD will allow them to make more meaningful natural-world connections through their learning. In addition, designing postsecondary programs for this population will contribute to building a society with equal participation and progress. The necessity for continuous research in teaching science to students with ID or ASD is also emphasized.

Domestic homicide (DH) is the most extreme form of domestic violence (DV). There has been a growing worldwide interest in DH offenses and the characteristics of perpetrators and victims, and it is evidenced in part by the increase in the number of primary research studies in this area. The findings of a large number of the available primary literature have already been summarized into several systematic reviews. The principal purposes of this study were to identify what types and aspects of DH have been reviewed systematically (research trends), to synthesize findings from recent systematic reviews of the theoretical and empirical literature on the different types of DH (main findings), and to consider what existing reviews can tell us about the implications for policy and practice as well as future primary research (implications). The current study utilized a systematic review approach to locate systematic reviews of studies on DH. The final sample included 25 systematic review articles published from 2010 to 2020, including 12 on intimate partner homicide, eight on child homicide, and five on familicide. The main research questions varied across systematic reviews, but they included risk factors, statistics on incidence and prevalence, theories, risk assessment tools, punishment and disposition, and prevention strategies. Building on the synthesis findings, the current study concludes with suggestions for future systematic review research and implications for practice and policy efforts.

PurposeThis paper aims to examine the rising sustainability standards on the island of Cyprus and more specifically the Cyprus Sustainable Tourism Initiative and how this organization helped to make the case for sustainable development.Design/methodology/approachThe study adopted a qualitative approach using interviews to collect data from primary research.FindingsAlthough Cyprus is a well-developed tourism destination, its sustainability standards have lagged behind. Tour operators initially encouraged the hospitality industry to commit to sustainability standards and the majority of the industry has done so. Yet there is still a gap between theory and practice and the industry needs to step up its efforts.Research limitations/implicationsThe study was time limited and the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic posed difficulties in terms of accessing interviewees and conducing the interviews.Practical implicationsThe study reveals the current state of sustainability standards in Cyprus and the effort needed to address the future challenges.Social implicationsSustainability is not a catch word but a way to offset the negative implications of human activity. Tourism and hospitality is an important economic activity and needs to play its role in protecting and improving environmental and social standards.Originality/valueThis is the first study to focus on sustainability standards in the hospitality industry in relation to the Cyprus Sustainable Tourism Initiative (CSTI).

Background Catheter-associated urinary tract infections (CAUTIs) are detrimental to health and are largely preventable with adherence to CAUTI prevention guidelines. Patient and family engagement in CAUTI prevention is often encouraged in these guidelines; however, little is known about how this engagement is operationalized in practice. A systematic review was conducted to synthesize the content, format, and outcomes of interventions that engage patients and/or families in CAUTI prevention. Methods Two reviewers independently screened records from four databases up to March 2021 and searched reference lists of final articles. Included articles were primary research, tested an intervention, involved indwelling urinary catheters, and described at least one patient and/or family engagement method. Articles were appraised for quality using the Downs and Black checklist. Results After 720 records were screened, 12 were included. Study quality ranged from good to poor, scoring lowest in internal validity. The most common formats of patient/family engagement were flyers/handouts (83.3%) and verbal education (58.3%). Common content areas were urinary catheter care and maintenance strategies. Most study outcomes (83.3%) measured CAUTI rates, and half measured patient/family-related outcomes. Improvements were seen in at least one outcome across all studies, but less than half (41.7%) showed statistically significant results. Conclusion The researchers found that most interventions lacked sufficient detail on the content, delivery, and/or outcome measurement of patient/family engagement, which limits transferability. More high-quality, generalizable trials are warranted in this area. Future research should focus on integrating publicly available resources into practice that can be tested for comprehension and revised based on feedback from target audiences.

Purpose: The objective of the presented study is to diagnose the readiness of Polish society for a "green" economic transition. Design/Methodology/Approach: The primary research methods applied in this article are analyzing domestic and foreign subject literature, strategic documents, and available statistical data. In order to better illustrate the issue of the social capital significance for the "green" transition, a survey was used among the inhabitants of the Silesian Province. The survey was conducted as part of the statutory research of the Department of Social and Economic Policy at the University of Economics in Katowice at the turn of 2019/2020. Using the questionnaire survey method, the study was carried out by a specialized research unit of the University of Economics in Katowice: Research and Development Centre. It was conducted based on a sample of 300 inhabitants of the province. Findings: The survey performed among the inhabitants of the Silesian Province allowed for assessing the current level of environmental awareness. Analyzing the research results, it can be concluded that nature, as an essential value, exists in the minds of the inhabitants of the Silesian Province. Nonetheless, this awareness is not necessarily related to the readiness to act for the benefit of nature protection. The indicated state of affairs is a vital challenge in terms of environmental education of the province's inhabitants under study, especially in the implementation of the Regional Just Transition Plan for the Silesian Province 2030. Practical Implications: The results of research and analyses presented in the article may be helpful in the context of the implementation of green transition programs in Poland, especially the Regional Just Transition Plan for the Silesian Province 2030. Originality/Value: So far, the issues discussed in this study (especially about the Silesian Province) have not been the subject of broader interest in the economic literature. The research results shown in the text have not been previously published.

The digital transformation of all areas of government is one of the European Union priorities. The motivation for our research was the fact that when it comes to the evaluation of Digital Public Services, the Czech Republic ranks below the EU countries average. This article discusses the development of electronic filings for the Financial Administration in the Czech Republic. It started with a critical literature review of relevant sources. Subsequently, a research was conducted with 644 respondents in the form of a questionnaire survey. Based on the primary research, opinions on the digitization of financial administration, including the benefits and disadvantages it brings to them, was verified with entrepreneurs. The survey data was evaluated using a non-parametric test in SPSS Statistics. Following an empirical survey, it was found that the majority of respondents perceive electronic filings in a positive way. The most common form of electronic filing is through data boxes, which have been in use in the Czech Republic since 2009. Less than half of the respondents had some problems related to the introduction of electronic filings. Some of the most common issues mentioned included the familiarization with the requirements associated with the electronic filings and learning to use the program in general. With the majority of respondents, accountants are responsible for interaction with the Financial Administration. Based on the respondents’ perception, the saving of time was identified as the most significant benefit, followed by the availability of information and error checks; saving of costs was the last. The respondents evaluate electronic communication as more flexible, practical and easier.

Objectives The aim of this review was to provide a synthesis of research on perceptions of safety and quality of care of patients from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds during acute and critical illness. Review method used An integrative literature review based on the four-stage framework of Whittemore and Knafl was conducted including problem identification, a systematic literature search strategy, critical review of selected research articles, and integration of findings. Data sources Primary research articles published between January 2008 and October 2020 were identified from seven databases: PubMed, the Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature, Web of Science, Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online (Medline), PsycINFO, the Cochrane Library, and Scopus electronic databases. The comprehensive search also included a manual search of citations and references from the selected articles. Review methods Data extracted from studies included authors, year, country of origin, methodology and method, sample or participants, key findings, strengths, and limitations. The Critical Appraisal Skill Programme was used to evaluate the quality of studies. Results Sixteen studies were included in the final analysis after critical appraisal. Four themes were identified: communication; the influence of culture, spirituality, and religion on care expectations; end-of-life care; and organisational structure, policy, and culture. Conclusion Research into patients from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds requiring care in acute and critical care areas is limited, in both the Australian and global context. There is an opportunity for future research in this area to inform the safety and quality of health care for this patient population and to enhance staff education and training programs.

In this interview, Dr Farah R Zahir speaks with Storm Johnson, Commissioning Editor for Epigenomics, on her work to date in the field of epigenomics, autism and intellectual disability. Dr Farah R Zahir specializes in the identification of novel genetic and epigenetic causes for neurodevelopmental diseases. Her PhD, awarded in 2011 by the University of British Columbia (UBC), resulted in the characterization of new intellectual disability (ID) syndromes, as well as discovery of several new causative genes for the disorder. She was awarded the prestigious James Miller Memorial Prize for integrating basic and clinical science in 2010. Her PhD dissertation was nominated for the Governor General’s gold medal – the highest possible accolade at UBC for doctoral research work. She then completed a postdoctoral tenure in Canada’s premier Michael Smith Genome Sciences Centre, where she used whole-genome-sequencing methods to comprehensively assess genetic, molecular and structural causes for ID, employing several firsts for bioinformatic data mining in the field. During her postdoctorate she won three distinguished awards and was a fellow of the Canadian Institute of Health Research, ranking in the top 2% nationally. Dr Zahir was appointed as an Assistant Professor at the Hamad Bin Khalifa University in 2016, where she led a group focused on neurogenomics and neuroepigenomics research. She was a founding member of the Precision and Genomics Medicine graduate program there. Currently she has rejoined UBC's department of Medical Genetics. Among her most significant achievements is the establishment of the novel Zahir Friedman syndrome, an intellectual disability/autism spectrum disorder syndrome that is caused by a major epigenomic regulator. Her current primary research interest is how epigenomics can be changed by environmental impacts and how these effects may be harnessed for neurodevelopmental disorders' prophylaxis and therapeutics.

This is a critical review of the current evidence on patients’ experiences with oral cancer. The impact on the quality of life and implications to clinical practice and research were also discussed. A comprehensive search of three databases, PubMed, Scopus, and Google Scholar was undertaken. The search was restricted to English-language primary research papers from 2009 till 2019. The following keywords were used: mouth neoplasms, patients, experiences, oral cancer, physical, social, psychological. A total of 173 studies were retrieved using the search strategy. After removing duplicate reports and scrutinising those based on title and abstract, 68 studies were shortlisted for full text review. Three major themes emerged from the literature: (1) physical experiences of oral cancer patients, (2) psychological experiences of oral cancer patients, and (3) social experiences of oral cancer patients. Experiences of oral cancer patients are complex and subjective, and phases of physical, psychological, and social experiences of oral cancer have not been explored in detail. However, there is evidence that experiences such as pain, facial alterations, body image disturbances, anxiety, depression, social avoidance, social support, and financial implications affect patients’ quality of life. This review underlines the importance of further research to look into the type of support needed to address various experiences of oral cancer patients.

The study focused on the rationale use of technology that is widely spreading around the world. Educational technology is significant in the learning and teaching process. The significance of the developed game-based courseware was to provide instruction and self-drill-and-practice to understand the computer system servicing terms and concepts. This interactive courseware is an additional innovation that will significantly help in the learning and teaching process. The conceptual framework of the study used to organize and varied literature which establishes the scope of education and principles of game-based courseware. The researcher utilized a questionnaire as the primary research instrument. The weighted mean and the standard deviation are used to determine the acceptability of the courseware. To adopt the opportunities offered by developed game-based courseware, it is essential to focus on lessons learned in Computer System Servicing. Features such as peer to peer learning and camaraderie between learners and educators have been found significant in traditional lessons and converted to educational games, as modern technologies move into the informative mainstream. Additional research into the effects and development of game-based approach courseware to classify the role of teachers as facilitators in the game-based approach of learning can establish ways to develop and create educational practices that better engage and motivate students.

This is a systematic review conducted to explore the primary research literature on student agency in higher education, as well as links between student agency and student learning. Out of more than 2,300 results, 42 articles published between 1980 and 2021 were assessed. Of these, 29 studies were included in a narrative review based on their centrality of student agency and methodological quality. We found that a student agency perspective is integrated into research focussed on assessment and feedback, globalisation and internationalisation, knowledge production, learning analytics, learning connections and transfer, real-life learning situations, and student-focussed teaching and learning. Our study reveals that researchers report a link between sources of agency and student agency, as well as between agency and individual outcomes, but the relationship between agency and societal outcomes requires further investigation. We argue that research must include holistic notions and critical discussions of agency for moving higher education practices and student agency literature forward.

The Comprehensive Assessment of Psychopathic Personality–Lexical Rating Scale (CAPP-LRS) is a self-report instrument designed to index psychopathy according to the CAPP psychopathy framework. Developed with the expressed goal of advancing the state of knowledge regarding the specific features of psychopathy, the CAPP model and associated instruments have garnered increasing attention and support in the field. Despite the conceptual strength of the CAPP model, the advanced lexical structure of its primary research tool (the CAPP-LRS) has led researchers to question the utility of the instrument for use with some populations of interest (e.g., forensic/correctional and adolescent/young adult samples). The aim of the present work was to address this issue by creating a lexically simplified, though functionally equivalent, version of the CAPP-LRS to increase accessibility to critically relevant populations. A set of two studies ( N = 602) describes the adaptation protocol and the initial validation of the modified instrument.

Background Collateral findings in pragmatic clinical trials are findings that may have implications for patients’ health but were not generated to address a trial’s primary research questions. It is uncertain how best to communicate these collateral findings to patients. Objectives To determine how reactions to a letter communicating collateral findings relate to who signed the letter, the type of finding, or whether the letter specified that the finding arose from a pragmatic clinical trial. Research Design Web-based survey experiment using a between-subjects design in which respondents were randomly assigned within education strata to view and respond to 1 of 16 hypothetical scenarios. Subjects Adults recruited from an online panel constructed from a probability sample of US-based postal addresses. Measures The primary outcomes were the action the respondent would take next (i.e., contact a doctor immediately or something else) and the respondent’s emotional reactions (i.e., all positive, all negative, mixed, or none). Results A total of 4080 respondents had analyzable data. Although some effects were statistically significant (P < .05), none exceeded a prespecified threshold for policy relevance (15 or more percentage points). Ratings of letter clarity and level of understanding were lower for letters that included a description of the clinical trial. Conclusions Signatory and level of detail about collateral findings did not substantially affect people’s intentions to take the recommended action of contacting their doctor. Deciding whether to include a description of the pragmatic clinical trial requires a trade-off between transparency and more difficulty understanding the contents of the letter. BPR is one of the most important ways for hospitals to make changes so that they can improve their efficiency and effectiveness. However, in practice, BPR in hospitals encountered many challenges and in the end did not achieve the expected results. Various studies have described the factors that lead to success or failure in the implementation of BPR projects so that the purpose of this study is to analyze the key factors that lead to success in implementing BPR in hospitals. This integrative review uses the Joanna Briggs Institute guidelines with primary research articles in English which are accessed through the PubMed, ScienceDirect, and Google Scholar databases for the last 10 years. The article search results obtained 311 articles and the remaining 10 articles were included in the study. The results of the study obtained nine key success factors in implementing BPR in hospitals, namely management commitment, employee empowerment, methods and tools, information technology, environment and culture, external organization, BPR projects, finance and strategy. These factors are only generally representative of various hospitals including public and private hospitals because there are many other factors that can affect the implementation of BPR depending on the type, characteristics, and heterogeneous hospital environment. It is hoped that this key factor will be a concern when the hospital wants to make changes through the BPR project and can assist the hospital in achieving results according to the organization's vision.

A boltok polcain elterjedtek a „mentes” élelmiszerek, úgymint az egészségtudatos táplálkozás fontos összetevői. A kutatásunk alapját képezi egy olyan lehetséges zöldségkonzerv piaci helyzetének és bevezetési lehetőségeinek elemzése, amely akár kielégítheti a fogyasztók só- és cukormentes étkezéshez fűződő igényeit. A szekunder adat- és információgyűjtéssel nyújtottunk alapot a további kutatásoknak. A primer kutatásnál három kvalitatív módszert alkalmaztunk, amely a netnográfiai vizsgálat, a szakértői interjú és a fókuszcsoportos kutatás volt. A netnográfia során az előzetesen összegyűjtött kulcsszavak alapján vizsgáltuk az interneten, főleg a közösségi oldalakon a fogyasztói igényeket a só- és cukormentes konzervekre vonatkozóan. A konzerviparban jártas szakértővel folytatott interjú során a konzervek sajátossága és a mentes konzervek jellemzőinek a megvitatása álláspontja volt a középpontban. A fókuszcsoportos kutatás pedig az egyetemisták elképzeléseit volt hivatott megismerni a konzervekről és azok vásárlóiról egyaránt. Többek között fényt derítettünk arra, hogy a mentes szóhoz a fogyasztók az egészség kifejezését társítják, azonban a mentesség hangsúlyozása hiányérzetet válthat ki. A mentes konzervek vizsgálata során arra jutottunk, hogy a fiatal, idejükkel spóroló, egészségtudatos fogyasztók alkothatják a célcsoportot. A célpiac miatt javasoljuk az online platformokon történő népszerűsítést, ahol akár edukációs kampányokat is ajánlott lenne alkalmazni.JEL-kódok: M31, Q13

Purpose: This paper aims to explore the framework, practices, and implementation of total quality management (TQM) in the service industry. Methodology/Approach: The present study focuses on the existing literature on several TQM dimensions and developed a framework that would allow the service industry to efficiently apply TQM, resulting in enhanced organizational performance. Findings: The research findings suggest that the relevance and implementation of TQM practices have a strong linkage to organizational performance. Managers shall work for the accomplishments of TQM to achieve success in local and global competition. By implementing TQM practices effectively in the service industry, managers can see improvements in the organization’s function. Therefore, managers shall accept the TQM approach to improve overall service quality and organizational performance. Research Limitation/implication: The study is limited to secondary data collection and no primary research is carried out to verify the proposed framework. Originality/Value of paper: The present study contributes to the literature on TQM by developing a framework for the service industry. This adds to the existing knowledge on TQM in the service industry and builds a foundation to carry out future research. The proposed TQM framework will empower the organizations for superior performance by evaluating the factors, defining rooms for improvement, and designing ways to achieve business excellence.

A kávéfogyasztás napjainkban egy széleskörűen elterjedt tevékenység, mely jellemző a világ minden pontjára. Kijelenthető, hogy igen népszerű ital, melynek számos változata ismert. A koffein számtalan hatását tartjuk számon, az emberi szervezetre vonatkozóan, mely magába foglalja az egészségre kedvező és a káros hatásokat egyaránt. Magyarországon 2018-ban az évi egy főre jutó kávéfogyasztás 3,1 kilogramm volt, mellyel a világ kávéfogyasztási listáján a 24. helyet foglalta el. Kutatásunk célja a kávéfogyasztási szokások feltárása volt hazai szinten, egy szekunder adatgyűjtésre alapozott kérdőíves felmérés eredményei alapján. Kutatásunk során nagy hangsúlyt fektettünk a kávéfogyasztás jótékony és káros egészségügyi hatásainak vizsgálatára is, ezért további célunk volt feltárni, hogy a hazai fogyasztók tisztában vannak-e a kávéfogyasztás egészségügyi hatásaival. Továbbá megvizsgáltuk a kávéfogyasztás okait és az elfogyasztott mennyiségeket is. A kutatásaink során meghatározott hipotézisünk a következő volt: „Azok az emberek, akik gyakran fogyasztanak kávét, nincsenek tisztában a kávé egészségügyi hatásaival”. Kutatásunk első lépéseként szekunder adatgyűjtést végeztünk, melyet egy primer információgyűjtés követett. A mintasokaság statisztikailag nem reprezentálja Magyarország lakosságát, ezért a felmérést nem tekintjük reprezentatívnak, az eredmények csupán feltáró jellegűek. Kutatásunk során megállapítottuk, hogy bár a kávét gyakran fogyasztó emberek többsége tisztában van a kávé jótékony és káros egészségre gyakorolt ​​hatásával, ez nemek szerinti bontásban főként a nőkre igaz, a férfiakra kevésbé. A megkérdezett férfiak többsége csak a káros hatásokat ismeri. The interest in the Circular Economy (CE) has grown in recent years. Digital technologies (DTs) have demonstrated a potential synergy to achieve circular goals at the micro, meso, and macro-level. Although several studies in literature explore DTs and CE linkage, they have not been identified according to their primary research themes. This paper aims to identify the main research streams addressing CE and DTs. From a Systematic Literature Review and Content Analysis, we reviewed 40 articles and classified three primary research streams. (1) Industry 4.0 (I4.0) focuses on the relevance and role of I4.0 in the transition to a CE. (2) The Business research stream evaluated the connection between digital transformation and business. (3) The Sustainability research stream discusses sustainability issues such as waste management and smart cities. Based on the analyzed studies' purposes and gaps, we provide a research agenda for further research. Additionally, we explain the implications of DTs and CE to research on engineering design. Our paper guides researchers in their future research to focus on gaps that have not been answered and position their studies according to their research streams.

Purpose: Primary aim of the research study was to develop awareness among the participants about the benefits of exercise and its financial benefits. Methodology: Adults had to perform exercises on Unstable Surfaces (US), Stable Surface (SS) and Machine Based (MB). The protocol of exercises was divided into three categories with 30 participants in each group i.e., Machine Based Surface Resistance Training (M-SRT), Machine Based Unstable Surface Resistance Training (M-URT), and Free Weight Unstable Surfaces Resistance Training (F-URT). Equipment used for tests was imported. Cost of financial expenditure and effects of resistance training exercise protocol on the male adults’ lower limbs muscular power, body fats, and strength were compared. Leg extension strength, leg press, muscle fuel, and body fats were checked on the baseline and after a seven-week resistance training program in the adults and budget, effects took away from the parents. Main Findings: The subjects’ results in maximal resistance training of squad movement were significantly higher in M-SRT and M-URT as compared to F-URT. The average seven-week regular resistance training exercise protocol program in adults with proper supervision will minimize the risk of injury and develop the strength and endurance in the lower limbs of adults up to maximal and that the composition of the body fats was observed lesser. There are training and exercise centres in Dera Ismail Khan city and adults can easily manage to become members of those clubs with nominal registration fees. Fitness and wellbeing are directly associated with the financial benefits of exercise and training. It was observed that the student adults can easily manage the resistance training program for their fitness by curtailing their pocket money. The implication of the Study: The findings of the research study have vital impacts on the daily life routine life of adults. Adults can easily manage to spare some time from leisure and money to keep themselves fit and healthy. The nation needs healthy adults to serve the best and build a nation. The results of analyzed data will help the parents and teachers to motivate their children to participate in the activities of fitness centres and acquaint the adults with financial behaviour change theory. Proper counselling of the experts will be fruitful in light of the recommendations of the study. Novelty: For the first time such a study is going to be conducted in the field of sports and finance. This is primary research in the homeland to highlight the behavioural economics capitalization in sports and training. The financial impacts of training and exercise on the fitness of youth have been studied in length. Future researchers would be benefited from the results of the study and they will be able to include the purchase of basic equipment for exercise and training in the institute budget.

Older adults historically have been excluded from biomedical research, especially in low-and middle-income countries (LMICs). This study aims to assess the scientific production of older adults-related publications (OARPs) in Ecuador and uncover research gaps to inform health and aging policy. A Scopus search was performed to retrieve OARPs published from 2008 to 2018. Bibliometric indicators studied included the number of publications per year, study design, research focus, and research lines. A total of 121 OARPs were retrieved. Sixty-four articles (~ 53%) were excluded. Overall, the most common study designs were cross-sectional and case–control studies, 84.2% (n = 48) and 8.8% (n = 5), respectively. The primary research focus was in the clinical-surgical area (~ 51%), and the most prevalent research lines were in the epidemiology of older-related diseases (35%) and causes of older-related diseases (26.3%). Across the analyzed period, we were not able to find studies related with aging policy, and we found only one OARP dedicated to diagnosis/treatment and provision of geriatric services, respectively. Ecuadorian OARPs were scarce during the last decade, providing limited evidence to address health priorities of the local older population and to inform health policy making. Improving research on the older population would provide valuable inputs to key stakeholders to perform evidence-based policy development that ultimately will improve quality of life and long-term health outcomes in Ecuador and other LMICs.

The objective of the study was to analyse the cognitive evaluations of subjective wellbeing (SWB) among healthy women with different sport participation levels by satisfaction with specific life indicators, specific life domains, and by the overall quality of life (QOL). Three samples of healthy women (n=136) categorized by the level of sport participation were recruited for the study: elite athletes (n=25), recreational athletes (n=58), and non-athletes (n=53). The Subjective Quality of Life Analysis questionnaire and the World Health Organisation QOL User Manual were used as primary research methods. Healthy female elite and recreational athletes reported significantly higher satisfaction in their lives with life indicators: justice, truth, leisure activities, safety, and freedom compared to healthy female non-athletes. Healthy female elite and recreational athletes reported significantly higher satisfaction in their lives with Psychological health and Environment domains as well as by the overall QOL compared to healthy female non-athletes.
