Ausgehend von der aus der Literatur bekannten guten Einheilung allogener nichtbe- handelter und formaldehydkonservierter Gefase als Gefastransplantate (1, 2) entwickelten wir Ende der 70er Jahre eine Gefasprothese, die insbesondere den Anfderungen an ein AV-Interponat fur Punktionen entsprechen sollte. Diese Prothese ist gekennzeichnet durch Verfugbarkeit verschiedener, insbesondere weiter Lumina, optimale Durchstromungseigenschaften bei Glattwandigkeit durch Formfixierung und primare Athrombogenitat durch selektive Silkonierung der Innenflachen.

According to Kass, a significant bacteriuria means that there are more than 105 germs/ml in the urine. Every bacteriuria needs intensive therapy, otherwise, even if asymptomatic, in a high percentage pyelonephritis will develop. A comparative investigation of 1167 urine samples showed that of the screening tests the modified Griess test was the most reliable (91.8%). The TTC test was positive in 76%. More than 90% positive results were obtained by Gram staining of centrifuged urine. Midstream collection of urine was used in every case. The results in chronic pyelonephritis and pregnancy with bacteriuria emphasize the necessity of intermittent long-term treatment. For this therapy schedule was developed. Preconditions for a successful treatment are: a differentiation of germs and the preparation of an antibiogram.

From 1959 to 1968 a total of 318 intoxications have been dialyzed mostly by haemodialysis in 15 dialysis centers in the GDR. The total survival rate was 71.4 per cent. The incidence of posonings in per cent of total (the survival rate in breackets) was: Hypnotics without Methaqualon 33 (84%), soap abortion 13 (63%), carbon tetrachloride 11.6 (67%) Amanita phalloides 7.5 (67%), dichloroethane 7.5 (67%), slowly dialyzable compounds 6.3 (75%), Hg-compounds 3.8 (83%), town gas 2.5 (62%), acetic acid 2.5 (12%) and rare poisonings 12.3 (77%). The results are discussed. The prophylactic dialysis, i.e. before beginning of renal failure particularly in poisonings with nephrotoxic compounds, is recommended. About 5 patients per 1 million inhabitants are dialyzed per year because of acute intoxication. The increasing use of toxic substances in industry and household demands a close cooperation between intensive care units, reaniation centers, dialysis units and the existing toxicologic consultation centers.

The activity of creatine kinase isoenzyme BB (CK-BB) was determined in serum of healthy adults and in patients undergoing maintenance hemodialysis and with kidney transplant. In the healthy adults examined, an activity of 0.56 +/- 0.16 U/l (mean +/- SD) was found. The arithmetic mean of CK-BB activity in patients with renal insufficiency under hemodialysis was 1.42 +/- 0.87 U/l and differed from that of the healthy group. The CK-BB activity in patients with kidney transplant was not different from that of the control group. The occurrence of CK-BB in serum is discussed from diagnostic and methodological point of view.
