International audience; We study the optimal design of tests with manipulable inputs. Tests take a unidimensional state of the world as input and output, an informative signal to guide a receiver's approve or reject decision. The receiver wishes to only approve states that comply with her baseline standard. An agent with a preference for approval can covertly falsify the state of the world at a cost. We characterize receiver‐optimal tests and show they rely on productive falsification by compliant states. They work by setting a more stringent operational standard, and granting noncompliant states a positive approval probability to deter them from falsifying to the standard. We also study how falsification‐detection technologies improve optimal tests. They allow the designer to build an implicit cost of falsification into the test, in the form of signal devaluations. Exploiting this channel requires enriching the signal space.

Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICU) are environments with a high level of sensory stress. Medical advances and technology have contributed to increase the ratio of survival of premature infants but some devices and practices expose these babies to excessive noise and toxic sensory stimuli for which they are not prepared. This is related to an increase of neonatal morbidities, that are considered as minor sequelae, but that can greatly alter the life of the child and the family. Those responsible for hospital management and caregivers who want to take a step forward, need standards to guarantee the benefit of neonatal health and a proper physical and cognitive development of these babies. Design activity, from a Human-Centered Design approach (HCD), together with Developmental Centered Care (DC) contribute to identify and reduce adverse environmental conditions for newborns and premature infants. The purpose of this paper is to establish a method to provide design recommendations and good practice guidelines from evidence and especially from in-situ observations carried out in neonatal units by a multidisciplinary team (i.e., nurses, NICU supervisors and designers). Thus, we identify proposals to reduce stress situations and obtain potential benefits in the development of the hospitalized infant through adaptation of the NICU macroenvironment (i.e. the reduction of light and noise).

The HfO2-based resistive random access memory (RRAM) is one of the most promising candidates for non-volatile memory applications. The detection and examination of the dynamic behavior of oxygen ions/vacancies are crucial to deeply understand the microscopic physical nature of the resistive switching (RS) behavior. By using synchrotron radiation based, non-destructive and bulk-sensitive hard X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (HAXPES), we demonstrate an operando diagnostic detection of the oxygen ‘breathing’ behavior at the oxide/metal interface, namely, oxygen migration between HfO2 and TiN during different RS periods. The results highlight the significance of oxide/metal interfaces in RRAM, even in filament-type devices. The oxygen ‘breathing’ behavior at the oxide/metal interface of filament-type resistive random access memory devices is operandoly detected using hard X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy as a diagnostic tool.

Este trabajo tiene como objetivo acercarnos al Street Art, como fenómeno de la subcultura que ha pasado al ámbito de los museos. Se ha realizado un estudio histórico artístico desde su inicio histórico, en los años setenta del siglo XX, hasta el momento actual, y cómo este movimiento ha pasado de un entorno urbano a un ámbito comercial e institucional como las ferias de arte, casas de subastas, galerías y museos. Se ha tratado el caso español de una forma más concreta. Se ha hecho una mención especial al festival Asalto de Zaragoza, por ser el primero en el ámbito nacional, así como a las primeras galerías especializadas en grafiti y las primeras ferias de arte urbano, para finalizar el presente trabajo con las primeras exposiciones de arte urbano en un ámbito museístico, como es el caso de los artistas Eltono y Susso33 en Artium y Centro de Arte Tomás y Valiente (CEART).

Soluble forms of oligomeric beta-amyloid (Aβ) are thought to play a central role in Alzheimer’s disease (AD). Transgenic manipulation of methylation of the serine/threonine protein phosphatase, PP2A, was recently shown to alter the sensitivity of mice to AD-related impairments resulting from acute exposure to elevated levels of Aβ. In addition, eicosanoyl-5-hydroxytryptamide (EHT), a naturally occurring component from coffee beans that modulates PP2A methylation, was shown to confer therapeutic benefits in rodent models of AD and Parkinson’s disease. Here, we tested the hypothesis that EHT protects animals from the pathological effects of exposure to elevated levels of soluble oligomeric Aβ. We treated mice with EHT-containing food at two different doses and assessed the sensitivity of these animals to Aβ-induced behavioral and electrophysiological impairments. We found that EHT administration protected animals from Aβ-induced cognitive impairments in both a radial-arm water maze and contextual fear conditioning task. We also found that both chronic and acute EHT administration prevented Aβ-induced impairments in long-term potentiation. These data add to the accumulating evidence suggesting that interventions with pharmacological agents, such as EHT, that target PP2A activity may be therapeutically beneficial for AD and other neurological conditions.

Orientador: Elias Basile Tambourgi Tese (doutorado) - Universidade Estadual de Campinas, Faculdade de Engenharia Química Resumo: O presente trabalho consiste no tratamento de efluentes produzidos no setor têxtil, empregando a fotocatálise heterogênea e modelagem matemática dos processos. Os materiais baseados em alumina como suporte e funcionalizados com até 25% em massa de Zn apresentaram as melhores opções para o tratamento fotocatalítico. Durante a degradação dos corantes em fotorreatores foi verificado que quanto menor o diâmetro de partícula do catalisador, maior o rendimento do tratamento, devido ao aumento da área superficial do catalisador, e que o efeito da fotólise nas moléculas dos corantes causado pela radiação UV influência o ajuste dos modelos matemáticos para a fotodegradação temporal de corantes. Estes modelos previram que o efeito da concentração inicial apresenta pequena influência no rendimento da degradação máxima alcançada. A interação entre os fatores pH, concentração inicial e massa de catalisador decorrente do planejamento fatorial, bem como o tratamento estatístico revelaram que as condições ótimas para o tratamento dos efluentes reais foi a pH=10,4, massa de catalisador ZnO de 1,1 g com carga de corantes de 23 mg/L, empregando o fotorreator tubular, operado no modo batelada. O estudo exploratório do catalisador de ZnO, revelou que a massa específica, diâmetro médio de partículas, área superficial e porosidade foram: 5,55 g/cm3, 0,55 µm por Zetasizer e 0,119 µm por Mastersizer, 16,830 m2/g, e 0,1 respectivamente. O tratamento fotoquímico dos corantes em efluentes reais, demonstrou uma grande redução da carga orgânica do meio, corroborando para um forte indício da degradação destes compostos de maneira geral pelo processo de oxidação avançado quando empregado o catalisador ZnO. A modelagem matemática proposta para os sistemas de tratamento de soluções do corante RB 21, bem como para os corantes em efluentes reais se ajustaram de maneira satisfatória aos dados experimentais para os efluentes contendo os seguintes corantes: RB 19 e RB 21. Entretanto, no efluente com o RY 145, o modelo matemático sofreu maiores desvios para tempos de reação superior a 5,5 horas Abstract: The present work consists of the treatment of effluents produced in the textile sector, using heterogeneous photocatalysis and modeling the process mathematically. Alumina based materials as support and functionalized with up to 25 % by weight of Zn was considered as the best options for heterogeneous photocatalysis. During the degradation of dyes in photoreactors, it was found that the smaller the catalyst particle diameter, the higher the treatment yield due to the increase of catalyst surface area. The impact of photolysis on dye molecules caused by UV radiation influences the adjustment of mathematical models. These models predicted that the effect of the initial concentration has little influence on maximum degradation yield achieved. The interaction between pH, initial concentration and catalyst mass factors. due to the factorial planning, as well as the statistical treatment, revealed that the optimal conditions for the treatment of the real effluents were at pH = 10.4, 1.1 g ZnO catalyst mass with 23 mg dye per liter of solution, using the tubular photoreactor. The specific mass, mean particle diameter, surface area and porosity of the ZnO catalyst were: 5.55 g/cm3, 0.55 µm by Zetasizer and 0.119 µm by Mastersizer, 16.830 m2/g, and 0.1 respectively. The photochemical treatment of dyes in effluents showed a great reduction of the organic load, corroborating strong evidence of the degradation of these compounds in general by the advanced oxidation process when the ZnO catalyst was employed. The photocatalytic degradation process was then modeled based on mass conservation law. Elas servem para promover a evaporação do solvente presente nos adesivos ou fornecer a energia necessária para reações químicas. Esta dissertação tem como objetivo a avaliação térmica de estufa de secagem de fitas adesivas através do estudo de balanço de massa, balanço de energia e a eficiência térmica. A eficiência térmica calculada foi de 13,1%. Neste trabalho será apresentada uma metodologia e resultados experimentais para medição da perda de energia pelas paredes da estufa de secagem de fitas adesivas. A perda medida foi de 0,247 kW, concluindo-se que a estufa em geral é bastante eficiente quanto ao isolamento térmico. Devido à importância do coeficiente de transferência de calor na determinação do comprimento final de uma estufa e por estar intimamente relacionado com o tipo de escoamento de ar, este trabalho apresenta uma metodologia para a sua medição e também resultados experimentais que são comparados a modelos desenvolvidos por outros autores. Altos valores de coeficiente de transferência de calor são desejáveis para o aumento da velocidade de secagem. A diferença do coeficiente de transferência de calor medido por esta metodologia e comparado com outros autores mostrou-se muito pequena, com uma variabilidade de 1,19% Abstract: Hot air forced convection ovens are vital components in the manufacturing process of adhesive tapes. They serve to promote evaporation of the solvent present in the adhesives or provide the energy required for chemical reactions. This dissertation aims at the thermal evaluation of drying oven of adhesive tapes through the study of mass balance, energy balance and thermal efficiency. The calculated thermal efficiency was 13.1 %. In this work, a methodology and experimental results will be presented for the measurement of energy loss through the walls of the drying oven of adhesive tapes. The loss measured was 0,247 kW, concluding that the greenhouse in general is very efficient in terms of thermal insulation. Due to the importance of the heat transfer coefficient in determining the final length of a greenhouse and because it is closely related to the type of air flow, this work presents a Methodology for their measurement and also experimental results that are compared to models developed by other authors. High heat transfer coefficient values are desirable for increasing the drying velocity.
