The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends a COVID-19 vaccine booster dose for all persons18 years of age. We analyzed data from the National Immunization Survey-Adult COVID Module collected during February 27-March 26, 2022 to assess COVID-19 booster dose vaccination coverage among adults. We used multivariable logistic regression analysis to assess factors associated with vaccination. COVID-19 booster dose coverage among fully vaccinated adults increased from 25.7% in November 2021 to 63.4% in March 2022. Coverage was lower among non-Hispanic Black (52.7%), and Hispanic (55.5%) than non-Hispanic White adults (67.7%). Coverage was 67.4% among essential healthcare personnel, 62.2% among adults who had a disability, and 69.9% among adults who had medical conditions. Booster dose coverage was not optimal, and disparities by race/ethnicity and other factors are apparent in coverage uptake. Tailored strategies are needed to educate the public and reduce disparities in COVID-19 vaccination coverage.

An effective approach to detect stepping-stone intrusion (SSI) is to estimate the length of a connection chain. This type of detection method is referred to as the network-based SSI detection (SSID). Previously known network-based approaches for SSID either do not work effectively in the Internet environment, or are inefficient as they require a large number of packets to be captured and analyzed, or have limited performance as the length of a connection chain must be predetermined. None of these existing methods to detect SSI can be used to estimate the length of upstream connection sub-chain, which has been a long-standing and challenging open problem in this research area. In this paper, we develop effective network-based methods for SSID using packet crossover that can be used to estimate the length of a downstream sub-chain as well as that of an upstream sub-chain. Since the number of packet crossovers can be easily calculated, our proposed algorithms for SSID are easy to use and implement. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first work that can effectively estimate the length of the whole connection chain, including the upstream sub-chain. Rigorous technical proofs and well-designed network experiments are provided to verify the correctness and effectiveness of our proposed algorithms for SSID.

Objectives. To explore previous COVID-19 diagnosis and COVID-19 vaccination status among US essential worker groups. Methods. We analyzed the US Census Household Pulse Survey (May 26–July 5, 2021), a nationally representative sample of adults aged 18 years and older. We compared currently employed essential workers working outside the home with those working at home using adjusted prevalence ratios. We calculated proportion vaccinated and intention to be vaccinated, stratifying by essential worker and demographic groups for those who worked or volunteered outside the home since January 1, 2021. Results. The proportion of workers with previous COVID-19 diagnosis was highest among first responders (24.9%) working outside the home compared with workers who did not (13.3%). Workers in agriculture, forestry, fishing, and hunting had the lowest vaccination rates (67.5%) compared with all workers (77.8%). Those without health insurance were much less likely to be vaccinated across all worker groups. Conclusions. This study underscores the importance of improving surveillance to monitor COVID-19 and other infectious diseases among workers and identify and implement tailored risk mitigation strategies, including vaccination campaigns, for workplaces. CDC estimates that influenza resulted in 9-41 million illnesses, 140,000-710,000 hospitalizations, and 12,000-52,000 deaths annually during 2010-2020. Persons from some racial and ethnic minority groups have historically experienced higher rates of severe influenza and had lower influenza vaccination coverage compared with non-Hispanic White (White) persons. This report examines influenza hospitalization and vaccination rates by race and ethnicity during a 12-13-year period (through the 2021-22 influenza season).Data from population-based surveillance for laboratory-confirmed influenza-associated hospitalizations in selected states participating in the Influenza-Associated Hospitalization Surveillance Network (FluSurv-NET) from the 2009-10 through 2021-22 influenza seasons (excluding 2020-21) and influenza vaccination coverage data from the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) from the 2010-11 through 2021-22 influenza seasons were analyzed by race and ethnicity.From 2009-10 through 2021-22, age-adjusted influenza hospitalization rates (hospitalizations per 100,000 population) were higher among non-Hispanic Black (Black) (rate ratio [RR] = 1.8), American Indian or Alaska Native (AI/AN; RR = 1.3), and Hispanic (RR = 1.2) adults, compared with the rate among White adults. During the 2021-22 season, influenza vaccination coverage was lower among Hispanic (37.9%), AI/AN (40.9%), Black (42.0%), and other/multiple race (42.6%) adults compared with that among White (53.9%) and non-Hispanic Asian (Asian) (54.2%) adults; coverage has been consistently higher among White and Asian adults compared with that among Black and Hispanic adults since the 2010-11 season. The disparity in vaccination coverage by race and ethnicity was present among those who reported having medical insurance, a personal health care provider, and a routine medical checkup in the past year.Racial and ethnic disparities in influenza disease severity and influenza vaccination coverage persist. Health care providers should assess patient vaccination status at all medical visits and offer (or provide a referral for) all recommended vaccines. Tailored programmatic efforts to provide influenza vaccination through nontraditional settings, along with national and community-level efforts to improve awareness of the importance of influenza vaccination in preventing illness, hospitalization, and death among racial and ethnic minority communities might help address health care access barriers and improve vaccine confidence, leading to decreases in disparities in influenza vaccination coverage and disease severity.

Gastric cancer is a common malignant tumor. Early detection and diagnosis are crucial for the prevention and treatment of gastric cancer.To develop a blood index panel that may improve the diagnostic value for discriminating gastric cancer and gastric polyps.Thirteen tumor-related detection indices, 38 clinical biochemical indices and 10 cytokine indices were examined in 139 gastric cancer patients and 40 gastric polyp patients to build the model. An additional 68 gastric cancer patients and 22 gastric polyp patients were enrolled for validation. After area under the curve evaluation and univariate and multivariate analyses.Five tumor-related detection indices, 12 clinical biochemical indices and 1 cytokine index showed significant differences between the gastric cancer and gastric polyp groups. Carbohydrate antigen (CA) 724, phosphorus (P) and ischemia-modified albumin (IMA) were included in the blood index panel, and the area under the curve (AUC) of the index panel was 0.829 (0.754, 0.905). After validation, the AUC was 0.811 (0.700, 0.923). Compared to the conventional index CA724, the blood index panel showed significantly increased diagnostic value.We developed an index model that included CA724, P and IMA to discriminate the gastric cancer and gastric polyp groups, which may be a potential diagnostic method for clinical practice.

Weibo platform is an indispensable transmission channel in education policy release and dissemination. The events and sentiments contained in education policies microblogs include the public sentiment and support the general management and guidance scientifically and efficiently. This study constructs a dataset based on the “Double Reduction Policy” relevant microblogs and comments. The policy events are extracted by Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) model and Language Technology Platform (LTP). Based on the emotion dictionary, an attention-based BiLSTM model is constructed to classify the public sentiments. The experimental results reveal four themes: “industry impact,” “institutional supervision,” “public feedback,” and “policy implementation.” The distribution conforms to the development trend of online public sentiments.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is a highly malignant cancer with a high incidence and mortality in China. It is urgent to find a diagnostic marker with higher sensitivity and specificity than the traditional approaches for CRC diagnosis.To provide new ideas for the diagnosis of CRC based on serum proteomics.Specimens from 83 healthy people, 62 colon polyp (CRP) patients, and 101 CRC patients were analyzed by matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry. The diagnostic value of the profiles of differentially expressed proteins was then analyzed.Compared with the healthy control group, CRC patients had elevated expression of 5 proteins and reduced expression of 14 proteins. The area under the curve (AUC) for a differentially expressed protein with a mass-to-charge ratio of 2022.34 was the largest; the AUC was 0.843, which was higher than the AUC of 0.717 observed with carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA), and the sensitivity and specificity of this identified marker were 75.3% and 79.5%, respectively. After cross-validation, the accuracy of diagnosis using levels of this differentially expressed protein was 82.37%. Compared with the CRP group, the expression of 3 proteins in the serum of CRC patients was elevated and 11 proteins were expressed at reduced levels. Proteins possessing mass-to-charge ratio values of 2899.38 and 877.3 were selected to establish a classification tree model. The results showed that the accuracy of CRC diagnosis was 89.5%, the accuracy of CRP diagnosis was 81.6%, and the overall accuracy of this approach was 86.3%. The overall sensitivity and specificity of diagnosis using the proteomics approach were 81.8% and 66.75%, respectively. The sensitivities and specificities of diagnoses based on CEA and carbohydrate antigen 19-9 expression were 55.6% and 91.3% and 65.4% and 65.2%, respectively.We demonstrated that serum proteomics may be helpful for the detection of CRC, and it may assist clinical practice for CRC diagnosis.

IntroductionCOVID-19 vaccines are safe, effective, and widely available, but many adults in the U.S. have not been vaccinated for COVID-19. This study examined the associations between behavioral and social drivers of vaccination with COVID-19 vaccine uptake in the U.S. adults and their prevalence by region.MethodsA nationally representative sample of U.S. adults participated in a cross-sectional telephone survey in August-November 2021; the analysis was conducted in January 2022. Survey questions assessed self-reported COVID-19 vaccine initiation, demographics, and behavioral and social drivers of vaccination.ResultsAmong the 255,763 respondents, 76% received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine. Vaccine uptake was higher among respondents aged ≥75 years (94%), females (78%), and Asian non-Hispanic people (94%). A growing body of research suggests that short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs), metabolites produced by intestinal symbiotic bacteria that ferment dietary fibers (DFs), play a crucial role in the health status of symbiotes. SCFAs act on a variety of cell types to regulate important biological processes, including host metabolism, intestinal function, and immune function. SCFAs also affect the function and fate of immune cells. This finding provides a new concept in immune metabolism and a better understanding of the regulatory role of SCFAs in the immune system, which impacts the prevention and treatment of disease. The mechanism by which SCFAs induce or regulate the immune response is becoming increasingly clear. This review summarizes the different mechanisms through which SCFAs act in cells. According to the latest research, the regulatory role of SCFAs in the innate immune system, including in NLRP3 inflammasomes, receptors of TLR family members, neutrophils, macrophages, natural killer cells, eosinophils, basophils and innate lymphocyte subsets, is emphasized. The regulatory role of SCFAs in the adaptive immune system, including in T-cell subsets, B cells, and plasma cells, is also highlighted. In addition, we discuss the role that SCFAs play in regulating allergic airway inflammation, colitis, and osteoporosis by influencing the immune system. These findings provide evidence for determining treatment options based on metabolic regulation.

IntroductionFocusing on subpopulations that express the intention to receive a COVID-19 vaccination but are unvaccinated may improve the yield of COVID-19 vaccination efforts.MethodsA nationally representative sample of 789,658 U.S. adults aged ≥18 years participated in the National Immunization Survey Adult COVID Module from May 2021 to April 2022. The survey assessed respondents' COVID-19 vaccination status and intent by demographic characteristics (age, urbanicity, educational attainment, region, insurance, income, and race/ethnicity). This study compared composition and within-group estimates of those who responded that they definitely or probably will get vaccinated or are unsure (moveable middle) from the first and last month of data collection.ResultsBecause vaccination uptake increased over the study period, the moveable middle declined among persons aged ≥18 years. Adults aged 18-39 years and suburban residents comprised most of the moveable middle in April 2022. Groups with the largest moveable middles in April 2022 included persons with no insurance (10%), those aged 18-29 years (8%), and those with incomes below poverty (8%), followed by non-Hispanic Native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander (7%), non-Hispanic multiple or other race (6%), non-Hispanic American Indian or Alaska Native persons (6%), non-Hispanic Black or African American persons (6%), those with below high school education (6%), those with high school education (5%), and those aged 30-39 years (5%).ConclusionsA sizable percentage of adults open to receiving COVID-19 vaccination remain in several demographic groups. Emphasizing engagement of persons who are unvaccinated in some racial/ethnic groups, aged 18-39 years, without health insurance, or with lower income may reach more persons open to vaccination.

Pregnant and postpartum women are at increased risk for severe illness from COVID-19. We assessed COVID-19 vaccination coverage, intent, and attitudes among women of reproductive age overall and by pregnancy status in the United States.Data from the National Immunization Survey Adult COVID Module collected during April 22-November 27, 2021, were analyzed to assess COVID-19 vaccination (receipt of ≥1 dose), intent for vaccination, and attitudes towards vaccination among women aged 18-49 years overall and by pregnancy status (trying to get pregnant, currently pregnant, breastfeeding, and not trying to get pregnant or currently pregnant or breastfeeding). Logistic regression and predictive marginals were used to generate unadjusted and adjusted prevalence ratios (PRs and aPRs). Trend analyses were conducted to assess monthly changes in vaccination and intent.Our analyses included 110,925 women aged 18-49 years. COVID-19 vaccination coverage (≥1 dose) was 63.2% overall (range from 53.3% in HHS Region 4 to 76.5% in HHS Region 1). Vaccination coverage was lowest among pregnant women (45.1%), followed by women who were trying to get pregnant (49.5%), women who were breastfeeding (51.5%), and all other women (64.9%). Non-Hispanic (NH) Black women who were pregnant or breastfeeding had significantly lower vaccination coverage (aPR: 0.74 and 0.66, respectively) than NH White women.Our findings are consistent with other studies showing lower vaccination coverage among pregnant individuals, with substantially lower vaccination coverage among NH Black women who are pregnant or breastfeeding. Given the overlapping and disproportionate risks of COVID-19 and maternal mortality among Black women, it is critical that COVID-19 vaccination be strongly recommended for these populations and all women of reproductive age. Healthcare and public health providers may take advantage of every opportunity to encourage vaccination and enlist the assistance of community leaders, particularly in communities with low vaccination coverage.

Objective: To investigate the status quo of nursing practice environment, nurses’ safety attitude, and occupational well-being, as well as to explore the relationship among the three, so as to provide reference for formulating and implementing corresponding measures. Methods: A cross-sectional survey was conducted from October 2021 to December 2021. A total of 1,939 nurses from five tertiary hospitals in a city were surveyed using the Nurses’ Practice Environment Assessment Scale, Safety Attitudes Questionnaire, and Medical Workers’ Occupational Wellbeing Scale. The data were analyzed using SPSS 22.0. Results: The total score of nurses’ practice environment was 68.81 ± 27.79 points, which is at a relatively general level; the total score of nurses’ safety attitude was 111.28 ± 14.38 points, which is at a moderate level; and the total score of occupational well-being was 62.43 ± 28.17 points, which is relatively high. There was a significant positive correlation between nurses’ practice environment and their safety attitudes and occupational well-being (p < 0.05). Conclusion: Nurses are the main human resources in hospitals, and their practice environment is closely related to patient safety and their work enthusiasm. An unhealthy practice environment not only affects the quality of care, which leads to patient safety issues, but also their job satisfaction. Nurse managers are encouraged to implement targeted interventions in advance to improve nurses’ practice environment, strengthen safety attitudes, and enhance the professional wellbeing of nurses.

Background Approximately 20,000 people died from influenza in the US in the 2019-2020 season. The best way to prevent influenza is to receive the influenza vaccine. Persons who are foreign-born experience disparities in access to, and utilization of, preventative healthcare, including vaccination. Methods National Health Interview Survey data were analyzed to assess differences in influenza vaccination coverage during the 2012-2013 through 2017-2018 influenza seasons among adults by nativity, citizenship status of foreign-born persons, race/ethnicity, and language of the interview. Results Influenza vaccination coverage increased significantly during the study period for US-born adults but did not change significantly among foreign-born racial/ethnic groups except for increases among foreign-born Hispanic adults. Coverage for foreign-born adults, those who completed an interview in a non-English language, and non-US citizens, had lower vaccination coverage during most influenza seasons studied, compared with US-born, English-interviewed, and US-citizen adults, respectively. Conclusions Strategies to improve influenza vaccination uptake must consider foreign-born adults as an underserved population in need of focused, culturally-tailored outreach. Achieving high influenza vaccination coverage among the foreign-born population will help reduce illness among the essential workforce, achieve national vaccination goals, and reduce racial and ethnic disparities in vaccination coverage in the US.

An effective method to detect stepping-stone intrusion (SSI) is to estimate the length of a connection chain. This type of detection method is referred to as a network-based detection approach. Existing network-based SSI detection methods are either ineffective in the context of the Internet because of the presence of outliers in the packet round-trip times (RTTs) or inefficient, as many packets must be captured and processed. Because of the high fluctuation caused by the intermediate routers on the Internet, it is unavoidable that the RTTs of the captured packets contain outlier values. In this paper, we first propose an efficient algorithm to eliminate most of the possible RTT outliers of the packets captured in the Internet environment. We then develop an efficient SSI detection algorithm by mining network traffic using an improved version of k-Means clustering. Our proposed detection algorithm for SSI is accurate, effective, and efficient in the context of the Internet. Well-designed network experiments are conducted in the Internet environment to verify the effectiveness, correctness, and efficiency of our proposed algorithms. Our experiments show that the effective rate of our proposed SSI detection algorithm is higher than 85.7% in the context of the Internet.

Lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) populations have higher prevalences of health conditions associated with severe COVID-19 illness compared with non-LGBT populations (1). The potential for low vaccine confidence and coverage among LGBT populations is of concern because these persons historically experience challenges accessing, trusting, and receiving health care services (2). Data on COVID-19 vaccination among LGBT persons are limited, in part because of the lack of routine data collection on sexual orientation and gender identity at the national and state levels. During August 29-October 30, 2021, data from the National Immunization Survey Adult COVID Module (NIS-ACM) were analyzed to assess COVID-19 vaccination coverage and confidence in COVID-19 vaccines among LGBT adults aged ≥18 years. By sexual orientation, gay or lesbian adults reported higher vaccination coverage overall (85.4%) than did heterosexual adults (76.3%). By race/ethnicity, adult gay or lesbian non-Hispanic White men (94.1%) and women (88.5%), and Hispanic men (82.5%) reported higher vaccination coverage than that reported by non-Hispanic White heterosexual men (74.2%) and women (78. 6%). Among non-Hispanic Black adults, vaccination coverage was lower among gay or lesbian women (57.9%) and bisexual women (62.1%) than among heterosexual women (75.6%). Vaccination coverage was lowest among non-Hispanic Black LGBT persons across all categories of sexual orientation and gender identity. Among gay or lesbian adults and bisexual adults, vaccination coverage was lower among women (80.5% and 74.2%, respectively) than among men (88.9% and 81.7%, respectively). By gender identity, similar percentages of adults who identified as transgender or nonbinary and those who did not identify as transgender or nonbinary were vaccinated. Gay or lesbian adults and bisexual adults were more confident than were heterosexual adults in COVID-19 vaccine safety and protection; transgender or nonbinary adults were more confident in COVID-19 vaccine protection, but not safety, than were adults who did not identify as transgender or nonbinary. To prevent serious illness and death, it is important that all persons in the United States, including those in the LGBT community, stay up to date with recommended COVID-19 vaccinations.

Background: Gastrodin has been widely used clinically in China as an antihypertensive drug. However, its effect on hypertensive renal injury is yet to be elucidated. The current study aimed to investigate the effects of gastrodin on hypertensive renal injury and its underlying mechanisms by network pharmacology analysis and validation in vivo and in vitro.Methods: A total of 10 spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHRs) were randomly categorized into the following two groups: SHR and SHR + Gastrodin groups. Wistar Kyoto (WKY) rats were used as the control group (n = 5). The SHR + Gastrodin group was intragastrically administered gastrodin (3.5 mg/kg/day), and the rats in both WKY and SHR groups were intragastrically administered an equal amount of double-distilled water for 10 weeks. Hematoxylin-eosin, Masson’s trichrome, and Sirius red staining were used to detect the pathological changes and collagen content in the renal tissues. Network pharmacology analysis was performed to explore its potential targets and related pathways. In vitro, the CCK-8 assay was used to determine the cell viability. Immunohistochemistry and western-blotting analyses were employed to assess the protein expression associated with renal fibrosis and transforming growth factor-β1 (TGF-β1) pathway-related proteins in the renal tissues or in TGF-β1-stimulated rat kidney fibroblast cell lines (NRK-49F).Results: Gastrodin treatment attenuates renal injury and pathological alterations in SHRs, including glomerular sclerosis and atrophy, epithelial cell atrophy, and tubular dilation. Gastrodin also reduced the accumulation of collagen in the renal tissues of SHRs, which were confirmed by downregulation of α-SMA, collagen I, collagen III protein expression. Network pharmacology analysis identified TGFB1 and SMAD2 as two of lead candidate targets of gastrodin on against hypertensive renal injury. Consistently, gastrodin treatment downregulated the increase of the protein expression of TGF-β1, and ratios of both p-Smad2/Smad2 and p-Samd3/Smad3 in renal tissues of SHRs. In vitro, gastrodin (25–100 μM) treatment significantly reversed the upregulation of α-SMA, fibronectin, collagen I, as well as p-Smad2 and p-Smad3 protein expressions without affecting the cell viability of TGF-β1 stimulated NRK-49F cells.Conclusion: Gastrodin treatment significantly attenuates hypertensive renal injury and renal fibrosis and suppresses TGF-β1/Smad2/3 signaling in vivo and in vitro.

In this paper, we investigate the Blandford-Znajek (BZ) process within the framework of Einsteinian cubic gravity (ECG). To analytically study the BZ process using the split monopole configuration, we construct a slowly rotating black hole in ECG up to cubic order in small spin, considering the leading order in small coupling constant of higher curvature terms. By deriving the magnetosphere solution around the black hole, we determine the BZ power up to the second relative order in spin. The BZ power is modified by the coupling constant compared to Kerr black hole. Although the general nature of the BZ process in ECG remains unchanged at the leading order in spin, the coupling constant introduces modification at the second relative order in spin. Therefore, we anticipate that it is feasible to discern general relativity from higher derivative gravities by examining the BZ power in rapidly rotating black holes., Comment: v2: 13 pages, references added

We investigate the conserved quantities associated to Killing isometries for asymptotically AdS spacetimes within the framework of quadratic-curvature gravity. By constructing a rank-4 tensor possessing the same index symmetries as the ones of the Riemann tensor, we propose a 2-form potential resembling the Noether one for quadratic-curvature gravity. Such a potential is compared with the results via other methods existing in the literature to establish the equivalence. Then this potential is adopted to define conserved quantities of asymptotically AdS spacetimes. As applications, we explicitly compute the mass of static spherically-symmetric spacetimes, as well as the mass and the angular momentum for rotating spacetimes, such as the four(higher)-dimensional Kerr-AdS black holes and black strings embedded in quadratic-curvature gravities. Vaccination is critical to controlling the COVID-19 pandemic, and health care providers play an important role in achieving high vaccination coverage (1). To examine the prevalence of report of a provider recommendation for COVID-19 vaccination and its association with COVID-19 vaccination coverage and attitudes, CDC analyzed data among adults aged ≥18 years from the National Immunization Survey-Adult COVID Module (NIS-ACM), a nationally representative cellular telephone survey. Prevalence of report of a provider recommendation for COVID-19 vaccination among adults increased from 34.6%, during April 22-May 29, to 40.5%, during August 29-September 25, 2021. Adults who reported a provider recommendation for COVID-19 vaccination were more likely to have received ≥1 dose of a COVID-19 vaccine (77.6%) than were those who did not receive a recommendation (61.9%) (adjusted prevalence ratio [aPR] = 1.12). Report of a provider recommendation was associated with concern about COVID-19 (aPR = 1.31), belief that COVID-19 vaccines are important to protect oneself (aPR = 1.15), belief that COVID-19 vaccination was very or completely safe (aPR = 1.17), and perception that many or all of their family and friends had received COVID-19 vaccination (aPR = 1.19). Empowering health care providers to recommend vaccination to their patients could help reinforce confidence in, and increase coverage with, COVID-19 vaccines, particularly among groups known to have lower COVID-19 vaccination coverage, including younger adults, racial/ethnic minorities, and rural residents.

Transforming waste resources into energy storage materials is a new way to turn waste into treasure and solve the problem of energy shortage and environmental pollution in current society. In this paper, nitrogen/phosphorus co-doped activated carbon material was synthesized from the waste cotton fabric by one-step carbonization and activation in molten salt system combined with ammonium polyphosphate co-doping technology. The morphology, structure and composition of the materials were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), nitrogen adsorption desorption (BET), Raman spectroscopy (Raman) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The cyclic voltammetry (CV) and galvanostatic charge/discharge (GCD) were used to test the supercapacitor performance of the prepared materials. The results show that the waste cotton fabric, which is mixed with ammonium polyphosphate in the ZnCl2/KCl molten salt medium, then treated by carbonization and activation under high temperature, generates the nitrogen/phosphorus co-doped activated carbon with the specific surface area of 751 m2·g−1. In the three-electrode system, the specific capacitance is as high as 423 F·g−1 (at a current density of 0.25 A·g−1), and its capacitance retention is as high as 88.9% of the initial capacitance after 5000 cycles at a current density of 5 A·g−1. Meanwhile, when the material was assembled into a symmetrical supercapacitor, the achieved energy density can be up to 28.67 Wh·kg−1 at a power density of 200 W·kg−1. According to these results, converting waste cotton fabric resources into energy storage materials has succeeded in achieving high value-added reuse of waste textiles.

We assessed coronavirus disease vaccination and intent and knowledge, attitudes, and beliefs among essential workers during March–June 2021. Coverage was 67%; 18% reported no intent to get vaccinated. Primary concerns were potential side effects, safety, and lack of trust in vaccines, highlighting the importance of increasing vaccine confidence in this population.

Osteoarthritis (OA) is a degenerative disease that occurs mostly in the elderly, and its specific pathogenesis is still unknown, but recent studies have found that circular RNAs (circRNAs) generally display aberrant expression in OA. Our study explored the expression characteristics and mechanism of action of circ-NT5C2 in OA. Circ-NT5C2, microRNA-142-5p (miR-142-5p), and Nicotinamide phosphoribosyltransferase (NAMPT) mRNA levels were measured using real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR). Western blot was employed to assess the protein level of NAMPT and extracellular matrix (ECM) production-related markers. The viability, proliferation, apoptosis and inflammation were examined using 3-(4, 5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2, 5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay, 5-ethynyl-2'-deoxyuridine (EdU) assay, flow cytometry, and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), respectively. Relationship between miR-142-5p and circ-NT5C2 or NAMPT was demonstrated by dual-luciferase reporter system and RNA immunoprecipitation (RIP) assay. We reported that circ-NT5C2 and NAMPT were greatly upregulated, and miR-142-5p level was constrained in OA tissues and in a cell model. Circ-NT5C2 silencing alleviated IL-1β-induced inhibitory effects on chondrocyte proliferation and ECM generation, meanwhile the promotional role of IL-1β on chondrocyte apoptosis and inflammation was also weakened. The targeting relationship of miR-142-5p with either circ-NT5C2 or NAMPT was confirmed. Knockdown of miR-142-5p reversed the suppressive effects of circ-NT5C2 silencing on the OA progression in vitro, and NAMPT overexpression also attenuated the effects of miR-142-5p upregulation in an OA cell model. Collectively, circ-NT5C2 accelerated the OA process by targeting the miR-142-5p/NAMPT axis. This study provides valuable information to find a better treatment for OA. Purpose Human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination in the United States has been recommended for girls since 2006 and for boys since 2011. However, settings of receiving HPV vaccination have not been assessed. The purpose of this study is to assess settings of receiving HPV vaccination among adolescents in order to understand what strategies are needed to improve vaccination uptake. Methods Data from the 2018 National Immunization Survey–Teen (NIS–Teen) were analyzed to assess place of HPV vaccination overall, and by gender, quarter, and other selected variables among adolescents in the United States. The 2016–2018 NIS–Teen data were combined to assess state-specific place of HPV vaccination. Results Among vaccinated adolescents aged 13–17 years, a doctor's office was the most common place where HPV vaccination was received (79.2%), followed by clinics, health centers, or other medical facilities (13.5%), health department (4.1%), hospital or emergency room (2.3%), schools (.5%), and pharmacies or stores (.4%). Overall, 99.1% of adolescents aged 13–17 years received HPV vaccination at medical settings and only .9% at nonmedical settings. Reported vaccination in nonmedical settings by state ranged from less than .1% in Delaware, Florida, and New Hampshire to 4.1% in North Dakota, with a median of 1.0%. Conclusions Doctor's offices were the most common medical setting for adolescents to receive HPV vaccination. Less than 1% of adolescents received vaccination at nonmedical settings. Continuing work with medical and nonmedical settings to identify and implement appropriate strategies are needed to improve HPV vaccination coverage among adolescents.

BACKGROUND The incidence of primary cardiac lymphoma (PCL) is increasing, but the optimal management approach remains unclear. We assessed the clinical characteristics of a single-centre cohort with the goal of determining the optimal management approach. The treatment outcomes and prognostic factors are reported. MATERIAL AND METHODS All PCL patients were diagnosed via biopsy guided by whole-body imaging (positron emission tomography/computed tomography [PET/CT] and/or contrast-enhanced CT]. Curative therapy involved either surgery or prephase steroids followed by definitive immunochemotherapy, depending on the histological type. The primary outcomes were overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS); the secondary outcome was the treatment response. RESULTS Twenty-two PCL patients (14 males, 8 females; age: 59.5 ± 14.7 years [mean ± S.D.]) were histologically confirmed to have diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL; n = 17 [77.3%]), fibrin-associated DLBCL (FA-DLBCL) (n = 4 [18.2%]) and Burkitt lymphoma (n = 1 [4.5%]). Seven patients underwent cardiotomy (three for biopsy, four with curative intent). The median and longest follow-up periods were 16.3 and 180.0 months, respectively. Hackers on the Internet usually send attacking packets using compromised hosts, called stepping-stones, in order to avoid being detected and caught. With stepping-stone attacks, an intruder remotely logins these stepping-stones using programs like SSH or telnet, uses a chain of Internet hosts as relay machines, and then sends the attacking packets. A great number of detection approaches have been developed for stepping-stone intrusion (SSI) in the literature. Many of these existing detection methods worked effectively only when session manipulation by intruders is not present. When the session is manipulated by attackers, there are few known effective detection methods for SSI. It is important to know whether a detection algorithm for SSI is resistant on session manipulation by attackers. For session manipulation with chaff perturbation, software tools such as Scapy can be used to inject meaningless packets into a data stream. However, to the best of our knowledge, there are no existing effective tools or efficient algorithms to produce time-jittered network traffic that can be used to test whether an SSI detection method is resistant on intruders’ time-jittering manipulation. In this paper, we propose a framework to test resistency of detection algorithms for SSI on time-jittering manipulation. Our proposed framework can be used to test whether an existing or new SSI detection method is resistant on session manipulation by intruders with time-jittering.

Natural killer (NK) cells play an important role in biliary atresia (BA) pathogenesis; human poliovirus receptor (PVR) is an important NK-cell modulator. Here, we explored the role of PVR in BA pathogenesis.Poliovirus receptor expression and NK cell-associated genes were detected in human BA samples and a rotavirus-induced BA mouse model using quantitative PCR and immunofluorescence staining. Chemically modified small interfering RNA silenced PVR expression in the BA model, and its effects on the population and function of intrahepatic NK cells were investigated using flow cytometry (FCM). The effects of PVR overexpression and knockdown on proliferation, apoptosis and NK-cell-mediated lysis of cultured human cholangiocytes were analysed using FCM and cell viability assays. Serum PVR, high-mobility group box 1 (HMGB1), and interleukin-1beta (IL-1beta) levels were measured in a cohort of 50 patients using ELISA.Poliovirus receptor expression was upregulated in the biliary epithelium of BA patients and BA model and was positively correlated with the population and activation of intrahepatic NK cells. Silencing of PVR expression impaired the cytotoxicity of NK cells, reduced inflammation and protected mice from rotavirus-induced BA. Activation of the TLR3-IRF3 signalling pathway induced PVR expression in cultured cholangiocytes. PVR overexpression promoted proliferation and inhibited the apoptosis of cholangiocytes but exacerbated NK cell-mediated cholangiocyte lysis. Serum PVR levels were elevated in BA patients and were positively correlated with HMGB1 and IL-1beta levels.Poliovirus receptor contributes to BA pathogenesis by regulating NK cell-mediated bile duct injury; PVR has the value as a biomarker of BA.
