Type material: A silver proteinate slide with the holotype specimen circled by ink and a second silver proteinate slide with paratype specimens were deposited in Laboratory of Protozoology, Ocean University of China, with registration numbers CY2018101603-1 and CY2018101603-2, respectively. Type locality and ecological features: Intertidal zone of a sandy beach in Qingdao, China (36°16′35.817″N, 120°40′32.0124″E). Water temperature 21 °C and salinity 30 ‰. Etymology: We dedicate this species to Professor Dr Wilhelm Foissner, University of Salzburg, Austria, in recognition of his significant contributions to ciliatology. SSU rDNA sequence: The partial SSU rDNA gene sequence of Pa. foissneri sp. nov. is deposited in GenBank with length 1593 bp, G+C content 42.81% and accession number MW414674. The SSU rDNA gene sequence similarity between Pa. foissneri sp. nov. and its similar species ranges from 0.901 to 0.973 (Fig. 8). Description: Body size highly variable, cell length mostly ~150–300 µm, contracts ≤ 50%, occasionally> 350 µm when fully extended. Main body spindle shaped, ~70–170 µm long, with neck ~40–50% and tail ~15% of cell length (Figs 2A, B, F, 3A–E, I). Cilia in right kineties are ~6 µm long in vivo and densely arranged, whereas those in left kineties are undetectable in live cells. Nuclear apparatus centrally located, comprising two ovoidal macronuclear nodules, each about 10–30 µm × 5–10 µm after silver proteinate staining, and a single micronucleus (Figs 2A, B, D, G, 3K, M). Micronucleus located between two macronuclear nodules (Fig. 3M, arrowhead). Single contractile vacuole subterminally located (Figs 2A, B, 3C), pulsates about every 2 min. Extrusomes scattered in main body (Figs 2F, H, 3H), straight or slightly curved, ~4 µm long in vivo (Fig. 2C). Extrusomes in oral bulge undetected. Cortical granules not observed. Cytoplasm colourless or greyish, with numerous endoplasmic granules (~1–3 µm in diameter) in main body, rendering this region opaque. Locomotion typically by swimming, with anterior portion repeatedly contracting and swinging from side to side, sometimes by gliding on substrate. Ciliary pattern as shown in Figures 2E, G–I, 3J, L. About 14 (13–15) right somatic kineties, middle one longest, terminating anteriorly about one-sixth down the length of the body (Figs 2E, G–I, 3J, L; Table 1). Anterior of rightmost kinety terminating at one-third down length of cell, second rightmost kinety (RK n −1) extending to anterior and posterior ends of cell as a full kinety. Other right somatic kineties progressively shortened anteriorly towards dorsal and ventral margins to form two semi-sutures along dorsal full RK n −1 and PK2, respectively (Figs 2G–I, 3L). FAMILY PARALITONOTIDAE FAM. NOV. Type genus: Paralitonotus (see below). Etymology: Composite of the stem of the name of the type genus and the family suffix -idae (see Articles 29.1 and 29.2 of the ICZN, 1999). Genera assigned: Apolitonotus Pan et al., 2020, Paralitonotus, Pseudolitonotus Wu et al., 2022. Remarks: According to Article 64 of the ICZN (1999), any included valid nominal genus can be chosen as the type genus, not necessarily that having the oldest name. We have chosen the new genus Paralitonotus as the type genus because its anteriorly shortened right kineties form the most conspicuous glabrous region on the right side, which is the main diagnostic character of the family.

The effect of intercritical deformation on retained austenite and tensile performance of a low-carbon Si–Mn steel in modified quenching and bainitic partitioning processes was evaluated. The results showed that the intercritical deformation can play a positive role in stabilizing and refining the retained austenite, and possessed promising potential in balancing tensile strength and ductility of multiphase high-strength steels. The experimental low-carbon Si–Mn steel exhibited multiphase configuration comprising polygonal ferrite, granular bainite and granular structure after two different modified quenching and bainitic partitioning processes, and the bainitic ferrite laths got refined by intercritical deformation. The volume fraction of retained austenite in film-like and blocky morphology was increased from 11.5% to 13.9% due to applied intercritical deformation, and the larger amount of retained austenite provided the sufficient transformation-induced plasticity effect and resulted in enhanced work hardening degree; in response, enhanced ultimate tensile strength 1260 MPa and fracture elongation 22.1% were obtained, leading to increased product of strength and elongation in value of 27.7 GPa% compared to 20.8 GPa% of undeformed structure.

This study focus on the effects of the key process parameters during a modified hydrodynamic deep drawing utilizing a combined floating and static die cavity (HDDC). A two-stage hydraulic loading path is recommended in the novel process, and each stage of the hydraulic loading path is a linear loading path with an inflection point. The method to evaluate the wrinkle and forming dimension precision of the formed parts is introduced at first. Then the influence of the key parameters of the two-stage hydraulic loading path as well as the blank holder force on the dimension accuracy and surface quality of the formed parts was studied in detail. The results showed that the influence of the liquid pressure during the second stage is more significant than that in the first stage in hydrodynamic deep drawing utilizing a combined floating and static die cavity. The initial pressure of the second stage and the maximum pressure arriving moment during this stage have a significant impact on the dimensional accuracy of the formed parts, and the smaller initial pressure or the later the maximum pressure of the second stage arrives, the higher the accuracy of the formed part is. Similarly, the influence of the blank holder force in the second stage on the forming accuracy is more significant than that in the first stage.

Effects of micro-alloying elements and production process on microstructure, mechanical properties and precipitates of 600 MPa grade rebars were studied by using pilot test, metallographic observation, tensile test, thermodynamic calculation and transmission electron microscopy. The results show that the tested steels are composed of ferrite and pearlite, in which the content range of pearlite is 33%–45%. For vanadium micro-alloyed steel, interphase precipitation strengthening effect of V can be promoted and the yield strength of tested steels can be increased with increasing V content and decreasing finishing rolling temperature. The temperature of terminated cooling should be more than 700 °C when the water cooling is used. When niobium is added to the steel, more coarse (Nb, V) C, N precipitates are generated at high temperature, so that the solid solubility of precipitated phases of vanadium is reduced and the precipitation strengthening effect of vanadium is weakened.

A Ti bearing interstitial-free steel was finishing rolled in the ferrite region with and without lubrication and microstructures, mechanical properties and textures evolution during warm rolling and subsequent annealing were investigated by OM, SEM, tensile&nbsp, test and ODF. The results show that the surface microstructure of the as-rolled specimen without lubrication is composed of dense shear bands, while the microstructures of the central layer of the as-rolled specimen without lubrication and the whole cross section of the as-rolled specimen with lubrication are elongated ferrite. Short-time annealing can make the non-lubricated rolling sample recrystallize, but the lubricated rolling sample cannot. After complete recrystallization, the microstructure of the surface layer of the as-annealed specimen without lubrication is finer than that of the center layer of the as-annealed specimen without lubrication and the whole section of the as-annealed specimen with lubrication. The mechanical properties of as-annealed sample without lubrication change significantly in the initial annealing stage, while that of as-annealed sample with lubrication remain&nbsp, unchanged until the end stage of annealing. The surface layers of the as-rolled samples have strong Goss component and weak &gamma, fibre components, while the central layers have strong &gamma, fibre components and moderate rotated cubic components. As annealing proceeds, the Goss components of the surface layer decrease and the &gamma, fibre components increase. The rotated cubic components in the central layer are gradually transformed into &gamma, texture.

Comparison: In general, Aporthotrochilia gen. nov. resembles Orthotrochilia Song, 2003 in oral ciliature and the pattern of postoral kineties. However, the new genus can be distinguished by the presence of several extra kinetal fragments, i.e. the posterior fragments are on right posterior of frontoventral kineties and the higher number of terminal fragments (more than one vs. single) (Song, 2003). Both FvK and PF terminating posteriorly at the same level, and basal bodies densely arranged at their posterior ends (Fig. 3R, arrowheads). These showed that (1) perioral kineties of opisthe were developed from the oral primordium in midbody, which is generated from sections of postoral kineties; (2) the posterior fragments of both proter and opisthe stem from the parental posterior fragments. Remarks: Deroux (1976c) described a species under the name of Trichopodiella pulex with its infraciliature (Fig. 3O) in detail: one frontoventral kinety, 11 postoral kineties and three or four posterior fragments; the postoral kineties strongly shortened. However, he did not note whether the podite is present. Our isolate corresponds very well to the original report in terms of infraciliature, except for the only difference in the number of postoral kineties (ten vs. 11), which is, however, considered minor. Therefore, our isolate should represent a population of Trichopodiella pulex. However, during our study, we found this organism was quite different from other Trichopodiella spp. by: the presence of podite (vs. absence), four to five terminal fragments (vs. single), three to five distinct posterior fragments (vs. none) and two perioral kineties (vs. single) (Fauré-Fremiet, 1957; Deroux & Dragesco, 1968; Deroux, 1976c; Gong et al., 2008). Therefore, we concluded that this small species should represent a distinct genus, and assigned it to the new genus Aporthotrochilia as Aporthotrochilia pulex (Deroux, 1976) gen. et comb. nov.

The maize genome contains a large number of both DNA transposons and retrotransposons. It is already known that retrotransposons are located in the highly methylated intergenic regions where recombination does not take place. However, DNA transposons are located in the eukaryotic regions of the maize genome, where they are able to interact with the host genes. It has been recently known that two transposable elements in direct orientation in the same chromosome may recombine occasionally with each other, which leads to the deletion of the intervening fragment. Based on this fact, it would be interesting to find out whether two elements in different homologues are able to recombine at meiosis. A series of Ac derivatives that originated de novo from bz-m39 (Ac) have been generated previously by Dr Dooner's lab. Some of these Ds derivatives appear to be large ([greater than] 4kb) based on Southern blots. It may be possible to recombine two Ds elements with non-overlapping deletions to reconstruct a 4565-bp Ac element. Hence these derivatives' exact sequence composition needs to be defined. In this research project, I characterized 23 Ac-derivatives, and the results indicate that most of these derivatives are composed of fragmented transposon structures. Some of them are Ds elements with or without filler DNA; some of them are single-ended fractured Ac (fAc) elements with either 5' or 3' missing ends, yet not transposed, which have not been reported before, indicating that Ac may undergo not only internal deletions but also terminal deletions that are sometimes accompanied by deletion of its flanking sequence. Microhomology, which is the main mechanism to explain the non-homologous end-joining repair of deletions in Ac, was discovered at the deletion junctions of most of these derivatives. The next step is to select suitable derivatives to carry out the recombination experiment by crossing and measuring the frequency of meiotic recombination within the transposable element (TE) in bz, which will be compared then to recombination in bz. Here, I present the molecular analysis of these 23 derivatives.
