The majority of colorectal cancer (CRC) are sporadic CRC that can be caused by genetic variations such as Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms (SNPs). The CCND1 gene polymorphism rs9344 could involve at the beginning and the development of CRC. This study aimed to analyze the association between CCND1 gene polymorphism rs9344 with the grade and invasion degree of colorectal cancer in at Prof. Dr. I.G.N.G. Ngoerah Central General Hospital, Denpasar, Bali. This cross-sectional study was carried out at the Integrated Biomedical Laboratory Unit, Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University. Data analysis of 32 samples showed majority age was above 50 years old as many as 28 (87.5%), with men as 21 samples (65.6%). Histopathology description was adenocarcinoma in 32 samples (100%). Grading histopathology low grade was 31 samples (96.6%). The degree of tumor invasion was high as 25 samples (78.1%). From the aspect of pathological stage pNx as much as 27 (84.4%). The majority location of tumors was on the left side as 21 samples (65.6%). The polymorphisms of CCND1 rs9344 genotype sequentially AA as 20 samples (62.5%), AG as 9 samples (28.1%), while GG as 3 samples (9.4%). The statistical analysis found that CCND1 gene polymorphism rs9344 was not associated with colorectal cancer grade (p>0.05), and not associated with invasion degrees of colorectal cancer (p>0.05). Taken together, we conclude that no significant association between the CCND1 gene polymorphism rs9344 with grade and invasion degree of colorectal cancer at Prof. Dr. I.G.N.G. Ngoerah Central General Hospital, Denpasar, Bali.

The taxonomic status and species diversity of the brown algal genus Padina (Dictyotales, Phaeophyceae) was assessed based on DNA sequences and the morpho-anatomy of specimens collected worldwide, especially from tropical and subtropical western Pacific regions. Phylogenetic analyses using chloroplast rbcL and mitochondrial cox3 gene sequences demonstrated four distinct clades for newly collected samples with high bootstrap support. Each species clade possesses a suite of morphological features that are not shared by any known species of Padina. These are P. imbricata sp. nov., Padina lutea sp. nov., P. moffittianoides sp. nov., and P. nitida sp. nov. The occurrence of these and other species of Padina clearly points to an elevated diversity of the genus in tropical/subtropical waters of the western Pacific. Phylogenetic analyses provided new insights into biogeographic characteristics of the genus, with many species in the Pacific Ocean showing shared/overlapping distributions, whereas species from the Mediterranean/Atlantic and/or the Indian Ocean tend to be confined to particular regions. Consideration has also been given to the evolutionary time frame of the genus Padina based on molecular time trees: a time tree of the concatenated data set (rbcL + cox3) revealed the estimated divergence time in the mid-Cretaceous, whereas those of cox3 and rbcL showed older estimates pointing to the periods of mid-Jurassic and Early Cretaceous, respectively.

Background and Aim: Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is emerging in the newly industrialized countries of South Asia, South-East Asia, and the Middle East, yet epidemiological data are scarce. Methods: We performed a cross-sectional study of IBD demographics, disease phenotype, and treatment across 38 centers in 15 countries of South Asia, South-East Asia, and Middle East. Intergroup comparisons included gross national income (GNI) per capita. Results: Among 10 400 patients, ulcerative colitis (UC) was twice as common as Crohn's disease (CD), with a male predominance (UC 6678, CD 3495, IBD unclassified 227, and 58% male). Peak age of onset was in the third decade, with a low proportion of elderly-onset IBD (5% age > 60). Familial IBD was rare (5%). The extent of UC was predominantly distal (proctitis/left sided 67%), with most being treated with mesalamine (94%), steroids (54%), or immunomodulators (31%). Ileocolic CD (43%) was the commonest, with low rates of perianal disease (8%) and only 6% smokers. Diagnostic delay for CD was common (median 12 months; interquartile range 5–30). Treatment of CD included mesalamine, steroids, and immunomodulators (61%, 51%, and 56%, respectively), but a fifth received empirical antitubercular therapy. Treatment with biologics was uncommon (4% UC and 13% CD), which increased in countries with higher GNI per capita. Surgery rates were 0.1 (UC) and 2 (CD) per 100 patients per year. Conclusions: The IBD-ENC cohort provides insight into IBD in South-East Asia and the Middle East, but is not yet population based. UC is twice as common as CD, familial disease is uncommon, and rates of surgery are low. Biologic use correlates with per capita GNI.

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui perbedaan penguasaan konsep IPA antara siswa kelas IV semester genap yang mengikuti model pembelajaran group investigation melalui lesson study dengan siswa kelas IV semester genap yang mengikuti model pembelajaran konvensional di SD Gugus VII Kecamatan Kubutambahan. Jenis penelitian ini eksperimen semu dengan desain penelitin non-equivalent control post test control group desain. Populasi penelitian ini adalah seluruh siswa kelas IV SD Gugus VII Kecamatan Kubutambahan. Sampel penelitian diambil menggunakan teknik simple random sampling, sehingga diperoleh SDN 1 Bontihing sebagai kelas kontrol dan SDN 2 Bontihing sebagai kelas eksperimen. Data penguasaan konsep IPA dikumpulkan menggunakan tes objektif pilihan ganda, kemudian dianalisis menggunakan uji-t. Berdasarkan uji hipotesis diperoleh nilai thitung 2,65, dengan demikian disimpulkan bahwa terdapat pengaruh yang signifikan perbedaan penguasaan konsep IPA antara siswa kelas IV semester genap yang mengikuti model pembelajaran group investigation melalui lesson study dengan siswa kelas IV semester genap yang mengikuti model pembelajaran konvensional di SD Gugus VII Kecamatan Kubutambahan.

Here, we report a combined study of transport and thermodynamic measurements on the layered pnictide material SrAg4As2. Upon cooling, a drop in electrical and Hall resistivity, a jump in heat capacity, and an increase in susceptibility and magnetoresistance are observed around 110 K. All suggest nonmagnetic phase transitions emerge at around 110 K, likely associated with structural distortions. In sharp contrast with the first-principles calculations based on the crystal structure at room temperature, quantum oscillations reveal small Fermi pockets with light effective masses, suggesting significant change in the Fermi surface topology caused by the lowtemperature structural distortion. No superconductivity emerges in SrAg4As2 down to 2 K under pressures up to 2.13 GPa; instead, the low-temperature structural distortion moves up linearly to high temperature at a rate of ≈13 K/GPa above 0.89 GPa.

A sensitive and simple electrochemical method was developed for successful determination of amaranth in food samples by square-wave adsorptive stripping voltammetry based on an expanded graphite paste electrode (EGPE). The EGPE has strong and sensitive voltammetric responses to amaranth, owing to the multiporous structure and large surface area of EG. The electroanalytical determination of this azo dye was found to be optimal in Britton-Robinson buffer solutions (pH 7.0) under the following experimental conditions: accumulation time, 400 s; accumulation potential, 0.4 V; pulse amplitude, 25 mV; and frequency, 10 Hz. Under the optimum experimental conditions, the oxidation peak current was proportional to the concentration of amaranth over two ranges from 0.01 to 0.1 and 0.1 to 4.0 μM. These linear ranges of the EGPE toward amaranth were wider than other electrodes reported before. The LOD was estimated to be 0.005 μM (S/N = 3:1). The developed method was applied to the determination of amaranth in retsina samples, and the results were confirmed by HPLC. Statistical analysis of these data showed that the results of the two methods compared favorably. This work provides a simple and easy approach to the determination of amaranth in foods with high sensitivity and excellent selectivity.

Optimising the properties of platelet reinforced composites requires the strength of the reinforcing phase to be known, however strength measurements at such small scales are difficult and therefore data is sparse. In this work the flexural strength and Weibull modulus of microscopic, alumina platelets has been measured as 5.3±1.3 GPa and 3.7 respectively, using an in-situ micro 3-point bend test. A general approach to correct for the effect of variation in sample size on the Weibull modulus is presented, and the internal structure of the platelets is revealed by TEM.

Synthesis, characterisation and density functional theory calculations have been combined to examine the formation of the Zr 3 (Al 1–x Si x )C 2 quaternary MAX phases and the intrinsic defect processes in Zr 3 AlC 2 and Zr 3 SiC 2 . The MAX phase family is extended by demonstrating that Zr 3 (Al 1–x Si x )C 2 , and particularly compositions with x ≈ 0.1, can be formed leading here to a yield of 59 wt.%. It has b een found that Zr 3 AlC 2 – and by extension Zr 3 (Al 1–x Si x )C 2 – formation rates benefit from the presence of tra ces of Si in the reactant mix, presumably through the in situ formation of Zr y Si z phase(s) acting as a nucleation substrate for the MAX phase. To investig ate the radiation tolerance of Zr 3 (Al 1– x Si x )C 2 we have also considered the intrinsic defect prope rties of the end members. A element Frenkel reaction for both Zr 3 AlC 2 (1.71 eV) and Zr 3 SiC 2 (1.41 eV) phases are the lowest energy defect reactions. For comparison we c onsider the defect processes in Ti 3 AlC 2 and Ti 3 SiC 2 phases. It is concluded that Zr 3 AlC 2 and Ti 3 AlC 2 MAX phases are more radiation tolerant than Zr 3 SiC 2 and Ti 3 SiC 2 respectively. Their applicability as cladding materials for nuclear fuel is discussed.

The efforts of multinational corporations to be socially responsible do not always engender positive evaluations from overseas stakeholders. Drawing on attribution theory, we argue that two heuristics guide stakeholders in evaluating firms' social performance: foreignness and the valence of firms' social responsibility. We provide evidence from a field study of secondary stakeholders and an experimental study involving 129 non-governmental organizations. Consistent with attribution theory, the liability of foreignness is minimized when firms engage in “do-good” social responsibility (focused on proactive engagement creating positive externalities) but is substantial when firms engage in “do-no-harm” social responsibility (focused on attenuating negative externalities). In online supporting information, Appendix S1, we demonstrate that these evaluations have consequences for whether stakeholders subsequently cooperate, or sow conflict, with firms.

The newly discovered 112-type ferropnictide superconductors contain chains of As atoms that break the tetragonal symmetry between the $a$ and $b$ axes. This feature eliminates the need for uniaxial strain that is usually required to stabilize large single domains in the electronic nematic state that exists in the vicinity of magnetic order in the iron-based superconductors. We report detailed structural symmetry measurements of 112-type Ca$_{0.73}$La$_{0.27}$FeAs$_{2}$ using rotational anisotropy optical second harmonic generation. This technique is complementary to diffraction experiments and enables a precise determination of the point group symmetry of a crystal. By combining our measurements with density functional theory calculations, we uncover a strong optical second harmonic response of bulk electric dipole origin from the Fe and Ca $3d$-derived states that enables us to assign $C_2$ as the crystallographic point group. This makes the 112-type materials high-temperature superconductors without a center of inversion, allowing for the possible mixing of singlet and triplet Cooper pairs in the superconducting state. We also perform pump-probe transient reflectivity experiments that reveal a 4.6 THz phonon mode associated with the out-of-plane motion of As atoms in the FeAs layers. We do not observe any suppression of the optical second harmonic response or shift in the phonon frequency upon cooling through the reported monoclinic-to-triclinic transition at 58 K. This allows us to identify $C_1$ as the low-temperature crystallographic point group but suggests that structural changes induced by long-range magnetic order are subtle and do not significantly affect electronic states near the Fermi level.

Ca10(Pt3As8)(Fe2As2)5 is the parent compound for a class of Fe-based high-temperature superconductors where superconductivity with transition temperatures up to 30 K can be introduced by partial element substitution. We present a combined high-resolution high-energy x-ray diffraction and elastic neutron scattering study on a Ca10(Pt3As8)(Fe2As2)5 single crystal. This study reveals the microscopic nature of two distinct and continuous phase transitions to be very similar to other Fe-based high-temperature superconductors: an orthorhombic distortion of the high-temperature tetragonal Fe-As lattice below T_S = 110(2) K followed by stripe-like antiferromagnetic ordering of the Fe moments below T_N = 96(2) K. These findings demonstrate that major features of the Fe-based high-temperature superconductors are very robust against variations in chemical constitution as well as structural imperfection of the layers separating the Fe-As layers from each other and confirms that the Fe-As layers primarily determine the physics in this class of material., Comment: 5 pages, 2 figures

Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) measurements on the $^{195}$Pt nucleus in an aligned powder of the moderately heavy-fermion material U2PtC2 are consistent with spin-triplet pairing in its superconducting state. Across the superconducting transition temperature and to much lower temperatures, the NMR Knight shift is temperature independent for field both parallel and perpendicular to the tetragonal c-axis, expected for triplet equal-spin pairing superconductivity. The NMR spin-lattice relaxation rate 1/T$_1$, in the normal state, exhibits characteristics of ferromagnetic fluctuations, compatible with an enhanced Wilson ratio. In the superconducting state, 1/T$_1$ follows a power law with temperature without a coherence peak giving additional support that U$_2$PtC$_2$ is an unconventional superconductor. Bulk measurements of the AC-susceptibility and resistivity indicate that the upper critical field exceeds the Pauli limiting field for spin-singlet pairing and is near the orbital limiting field, an additional indication for spin-triplet pairing.

The spin fluctuation spectra from nonsuperconducting Cu-substituted, and superconducting Co-substituted, BaFe2As2 are compared quantitatively by inelastic neutron scattering measurements and are found to be indis- tinguishable. Whereas diffraction studies show the appearance of incommensurate spin-density wave order in Co and Ni substituted samples, the magnetic phase diagram for Cu substitution does not display incommensu- rate order, demonstrating that simple electron counting based on rigid-band concepts is invalid. These results, supported by theoretical calculations, suggest that substitutional impurity effects in the Fe plane play a signifi- cant role in controlling magnetism and the appearance of superconductivity, with Cu distinguished by enhanced impurity scattering and split-band behavior., Comment: 5 pages, 5 figures, Major change in the manuscript

Temperature-dependent, in-plane, thermoelectric power data are presented for single crystals of Ba(Fe1-xCox)2As2, 0\leqx\leq0.05, and Ba(Fe1-xRhx)2As2, (0\leqx\leq0.171). Given that previous thermoelectric power and angle resolved photoemission spectroscopy studies of Ba(Fe1-xCox)2As2 delineated a rather large Co-concentration range for Lifshitz transitions to occur, and the underdoped side of the phase diagram is poorly explored, new measurements of thermoelectric power on tightly spaced concentrations of Co, 0\leqx\leq0.05, were carried out. The data suggest evidence of a Lifshitz transition, but instead of a discontinuous jump in thermoelectric power between 0\leqx\leq0.05, a more gradual evolution in the S(T) plots as x is increased was observed. The thermoelectric power data of Ba(Fe1-xRhx)2As2 show very similar behavior to that of Co substituted BaFe2As2. Single crystals of (Ca1-xLax)10(Pt3As8)(Fe2As2)5 (x = 0 to 0.182) superconductors have been grown and characterized by X-ray, microprobe, transport and thermodynamic measurements. Features in the magnetic susceptibility, specific heat and two kinks in the derivative of the electrical resistivity around 100 K in the x = 0 compound support the existence of decoupled structural and magnetic phase transitions. With La doping, the structural/magnetic phase transitions are suppressed and a half-dome of superconductivity with a maximal Tc around 26 K is observed in the temperature-concentration phase diagram., Comment: The affiliations are corrected. Temperature-dependent inter-plane resistivity, $\rho_c(T)$, was measured systematically as a function of transition metal substitution in the iron-arsenide superconductors Ba(Fe$_{1-x}$T$_x$)$_2$As$_2$, $T$= Ni, Pd, Rh. The data are compared with the behavior found in Ba(Fe$_{1-x}$Co$_x$)$_2$As$_2$, revealing resistive signatures of pseudogap. In all compounds we find resistivity crossover at a characteristic pseudogap temperature $T^*$ from non-metallic to metallic temperature dependence on cooling. Suppression of $T^*$ proceeds very similar in cases of Ni and Pd doping and much faster than in similar cases of Co and Rh doping. In cases of Co and Rh doping an additional minimum in the temperature-dependent $\rho_c$ emerges for high dopings, when superconductivity is completely suppressed. These features are consistent with the existence of a charge gap covering part of the Fermi surface. The part of the Fermi surface affected by this gap is notably larger for Ni and Pd doped compositions than in Co and Rh doped compounds.

Intrinsic, in-plane anisotropy of electrical resistivity was studied on mechanically detwinned single crystals of SrFe$_2$As$_2$ above and below the temperature of the coupled structural/magnetic transition, $T_{\textrm{TO}}$. Resistivity is smaller for electrical current flow along the orthorhombic $a_o$ direction (direction of antiferromagnetically alternating magnetic moments) and is larger for transport along the $b_o$ direction (direction of ferromagnetic chains), which is similar to CaFe$_2$As$_2$ and BaFe$_2$As$_2$ compounds. A strongly first order structural transition in SrFe$_2$As$_2$ was confirmed by high-energy x-ray measurements, with the transition temperature, and character unaffected by moderate strain. For small strain levels, which are just sufficient to detwin the sample, we find a negligible effect on the resistivity above $T_{\textrm{TO}}$. With the increase of strain, the resistivity anisotropy starts to develop above $T_{\textrm{TO}}$, clearly showing the relation of anisotropy to an anomalously strong response to strain. Our study suggests that electronic nematicity cannot be observed in the FeAs based compounds in which the structural transition is strongly first order.

TThe parent compounds of iron-arsenide superconductors, $A$Fe$_{2}$As$_{2}$ ($A$=Ca, Sr, Ba), undergo a tetragonal to orthorhombic structural transition at a temperature $T_{\mathrm{TO}}$ in the range 135 to 205K depending on the alkaline earth element. Below $T_{\mathrm{TO}}$ the free standing crystals split into equally populated structural domains, which mask intrinsic, in-plane, anisotropic properties of the materials. Here we demonstrate a way of mechanically detwinning CaFe$_{2}$As$_{2}$ and BaFe$_{2}$As$_{2}$. The detwinning is nearly complete, as demonstrated by polarized light imaging and synchrotron $X$-ray measurements, and reversible, with twin pattern restored after strain release. Electrical resistivity measurements in the twinned and detwinned states show that resistivity, $\rho$, decreases along the orthorhombic $a_{o}$-axis but increases along the orthorhombic $b_{o}$-axis in both compounds. Immediately below $T_{\mathrm{TO}}$ the ratio $\rho_{bo}/ \rho_{ao}$ = 1.2 and 1.5 for Ca and Ba compounds, respectively. Contrary to CaFe$_{2}$As$_{2}$, BaFe$_{2}$As$_{2}$ reveals an anisotropy in the nominally tetragonal phase, suggesting that either fluctuations play a larger role above $T_{\mathrm{TO}}$ in BaFe$_{2}$As$_{2}$ than in CaFe$_{2}$As$_{2}$, or that there is a higher temperature crossover or phase transition., Comment: extended version

Magnetic correlations in the paramagnetic phase of CaFe2As2 (T_N=172 K) have been examined by means of inelastic neutron scattering from 180 K (~ 1.05 T_N) up to 300 K (~1.8 T_N). Despite the first-order nature of the magnetic ordering, strong but short-range antiferromagnetic (AFM) correlations are clearly observed. These correlations, which consist of quasi-elastic scattering centered at the wavevector Q_{AFM} of the low-temperature AFM structure, are observed up to the highest measured temperature of 300 K and at high energy transfer (E> 60 meV). The L dependence of the scattering implies rather weak interlayer coupling in the tetragonal c-direction corresponding to nearly two-dimensional fluctuations in the (ab) plane. The spin correlation lengths within the Fe layer are found to be anisotropic, consistent with underlying fluctuations of the AFM stripe structure. Similar to the cobalt doped superconducting BaFe2As2 compounds, these experimental features can be adequately reproduced by a scattering model that describes short-range anisotropic spin correlations with overdamped spin dynamics., 11 pages, 10 figures, article

The thermal conductivity k of the iron-arsenide superconductor Ba(Fe_{1-x}Co_x)_2As_2 was measured down to 50 mK for a heat current parallel (k_c) and perpendicular (k_a) to the tetragonal c axis, for seven Co concentrations from underdoped to overdoped regions of the phase diagram (0.038 < x < 0.127). A residual linear term k_c0/T is observed in the T = 0 limit when the current is along the c axis, revealing the presence of nodes in the gap. Because the nodes appear as x moves away from the concentration of maximal T_c, they must be accidental, not imposed by symmetry, and are therefore compatible with an s_{+/-} state, for example. The fact that the in-plane residual linear term k_a0/T is negligible at all x implies that the nodes are located in regions of the Fermi surface that contribute strongly to c-axis conduction and very little to in-plane conduction. Application of a moderate magnetic field (e.g. H_c2/4) excites quasiparticles that conduct heat along the a axis just as well as the nodal quasiparticles conduct along the c axis. This shows that the gap must be very small (but non-zero) in regions of the Fermi surface which contribute significantly to in-plane conduction. These findings can be understood in terms of a strong k dependence of the gap Delta(k) which produces nodes on a Fermi surface sheet with pronounced c-axis dispersion and deep minima on the remaining, quasi-two-dimensional sheets., 12 pages, 13 figures.

The dynamic susceptibility chi"(deltaE), measured by inelastic neutron scattering measurements, shows a broad peak centered at Emax = 16.5 meV for the cubic actinide compound URu2Zn20 and 7 meV at the (1/2, 1/2, 1/2) zone boundary for the rare earth counterpart compound YbFe2Zn20. For URu2Zn20, the low temperature susceptibility and magnetic specific heat coefficient gamma = Cmag/T take the values chi = 0.011 emu/mole and gamma = 190 mJ/mole-K2 at T = 2 K. These values are roughly three times smaller, and Emax is three times larger, than recently reported for the related compound UCo2Zn20, so that chi and gamma scale inversely with the characteristic energy for spin fluctuations, Tsf = Emax/kB. While chi(T), Cmag(T), and Emax of the 4f compound YbFe2Zn20 are very well described by the Kondo impurity model, we show that the model works poorly for URu2Zn20 and UCo2Zn20, suggesting that the scaling behavior of the actinide compounds arises from spin fluctuations of itinerant 5f electrons., Comment: 7 pages, 5 figures

We report muon spin rotation ($\mu$SR) measurements of single crystal Ba(Fe$_{1-x}$Co$_x$)$_2$As$_2$ and Sr(Fe$_{1-x}$Co$_x$)$_2$As$_2$. From measurements of the magnetic field penetration depth $\lambda$ we find that for optimally- and over-doped samples, $1/\lambda(T\to 0)^2$ varies monotonically with the superconducting transition temperature T$_{\rm C}$. Within the superconducting state we observe a positive shift in the muon precession signal, likely indicating that the applied field induces an internal magnetic field. The size of the induced field decreases with increasing doping but is present for all Co concentrations studied., Comment: 7 pages, accepted for publication in Phys. Rev. B

We have performed transverse field muon spin rotation measurements of single crystals of Ba(Fe$_{0.93}$Co$_{0.07})_2$As$_2$ with the applied magnetic field along the $\hat{c}$ direction. Fourier transforms of the measured spectra reveal an anisotropic lineshape characteristic of an Abrikosov vortex lattice. We have fit the $\mu$SRSR spectra to a microscopic model in terms of the penetration depth $\lambda$ and the Ginzburg-Landau parameter $\kappa$. We find that as a function of temperature, the penetration depth varies more rapidly than in standard weak coupled BCS theory. For this reason we first fit the temperature dependence to a power law where the power varies from 1.6 to 2.2 as the field changes from 200G to 1000G. Due to the surprisingly strong field dependence of the power and the superfluid density we proceeded to fit the temperature dependence to a two gap model, where the size of the two gaps is field independent. From this model, we obtained gaps of $2\Delta_1=3.7k_BT_c$ and $2\Delta_2=1.6k_BT_c$, corresponding to roughly 6 meV and 3 meV respectively.

CaFe2As2 single crystals under uniaxial pressure applied along the c axis exhibit the coexistence of several structural phases at low temperatures. We show that the room-temperature tetragonal phase is stabilized at low temperatures for pressures above 0.06 GPa, and its weight fraction attains a maximum in the region where superconductivity is observed under applied uniaxial pressure. Simultaneous resistivity measurements strongly suggest that this phase is responsible for the superconductivity in CaFe2As2 found below 10 K in samples subjected to nonhydrostatic pressure conditions., Comment: 5 pages, 3 figures

We present density functional theory (DFT) calculations and a full set of X-ray spectra (resonant inelastic X-ray scattering and X-ray photoelectron spectra) measurements of single crystal CaFe2As2. The experimental valence band spectra are consistent with our DFT calculations. Both theory and experiment show that the Fe 3d-states dominate the Fermi level and hybridize with Ca 3d-states. The simple shape of Xray photoelectron (XPS) Fe 2p-core level spectrum (without any satellite structure typical for correlated systems) suggests itinerant character of the Fe 3d-electrons. Based on the similarity of the calculated and experimental Fe 3d-states distribution in LaOFeAs and CaFe2As2 we conclude that superconductivity in the FeAs-systems can be described within a minimal model, taking into account only Fe 3d-bands close to the Fermi level., Comment: 19 pages, 9 figures inline with text

The temperature and magnetic field dependence of the in-plane thermal conductivity $\kappa$ of the iron-arsenide superconductor Ba(Fe$_{1-x}$Co$_x$)$_2$As$_2$ was measured down to $T \simeq 50$ mK and up to $H = 15$ T as a function of Co concentration $x$ in the range 0.048 $ \leq x \leq $ 0.114. In zero magnetic field, a negligible residual linear term in $\kappa/T$ as $T \to 0$ at all $x$ shows that there are no zero-energy quasiparticles and hence the superconducting gap has no nodes in the $ab$-plane anywhere in the phase diagram. However, the field dependence of $\kappa$ reveals a systematic evolution of the superconducting gap with doping $x$, from large everywhere on the Fermi surface in the underdoped regime, as evidenced by a flat $\kappa (H)$ at $T \to 0$, to strongly $k$-dependent in the overdoped regime, where a small magnetic field can induce a large residual linear term, indicative of a deep minimum in the gap magnitude somewhere on the Fermi surface. The effects of pressure generated in a liquid medium, clamp, pressure cell on the in-plane and c-axis resistance, temperature-dependent Hall coefficient and low temperature, magnetoresistance in CaFe2As2 are presented. The T - P phase diagram, including the observation of a complete superconducting transition in resistivity, delineated in earlier studies is found to be highly reproducible. The Hall resistivity and low temperature magnetoresistance are sensitive to different states/phases observed in CaFe2As2. Auxiliary measurements under uniaxial, c-axis, pressure are in general agreement with the liquid medium clamp cell results with some difference in critical pressure values and pressure derivatives. The data may be viewed as supporting the potential importance of non-hydrostatic components of pressure in inducing superconductivity in CaFe2As2.

The anisotropy of electrical resistivity was measured in parent compounds of the iron-arsenic high temperature superconductors, AEFe2As2 with Alkali Earth elements AE=Ca,Sr, Ba. Measurements were performed using both the Montgomery technique and direct resistivity measurements on samples cut along principal crystallographic directions. The anisotropy ratio \gamma_\rho=\rho_c/\rho_a is well below 10 for all compounds in the whole temperature range studied (4 to 300 K), in notable contrast to previous reports. The anisotropy at room temperature increases from about 2 in Ca, to about 4 in Sr and Ba. In all compounds the resistivity ratio decreases on cooling through the structural/antiferromagnetic transition temperature T_{SM}, with the change mainly coming from stronger variation in \rho_a as compared with \rho_c. This suggests that the transitions stronger affect the two-dimensional parts of the Fermi surface. We compare our experimental observations with band structure calculations, and find similar trend in the evolution of anisotropy with the size of AE ion. Our results show that the electronic structure of the iron pnictides has large contribution from three-dimensional areas of the Fermi surface.

The London penetration depth, $\lambda$, is directly related to the density, $n_{s}$, of the Cooper pairs ($\lambda^{2}\propto 1/n_{s}$) and its variation with temperature provides valuable insight into the pairing mechanism. Here we study the evolution with doping of the temperature dependence of the in-plane ($\lambda_{ab}$) and out-of-plane ($\lambda_{c}$) penetration depths in single crystals of electron-doped Ba(Fe$_{1-x}$Ni$_x$)$_2$As$_2$. As is the case for other pnictides, $\lambda(T) \sim T^n$ over the whole doping range and this behavior extends down to at least $T=T_c/100$, setting a very small upper limit on the gap minimum. Furthermore, in the overdoped regime: 1) the exponent $n$ becomes substantially smaller than 2, which is incompatible with the models that explain power-law behavior to be due to scattering; 2) the exponent $n$ becomes anisotropic, with $\lambda_{c}(T)$ showing a clear $T$-linear behavior over a large temperature interval. These findings suggest that in the overdoped regime the superconducting gap in iron-based pnictide superconductors develops nodal structure, which unlike in the cuprates, cannot be understood within a two-dimensional picture.

Heat capacity and anisotropic thermal expansion was measured for Ba(Fe_{1-x}Co_x)_2As_2 (x = 0, 0.038, 0.074) single crystals. Thermal expansion is anisotropic and, in tetragonal phase, is significantly higher along the c-axis. Previously reported phase transitions, including possibly split structural and magnetic for x = 0.038 are clearly seen in both measurements. Uniaxial pressure derivatives of the superconducting transition temperature inferred from the Ehrenfest relation have opposite signs for in-plane and c-axis pressures for both Ba(Fe_{0.962}Co_{0.038})_2As_2 and Ba(Fe_{0.926}Co_{0.074})_2As_2, with the opposite sign of this anisotropy.

We use angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) to investigate the electronic properties of the newly discovered iron-arsenic superconductor, Ba(1-x)K(x)Fe2As2 and non-supercondcuting BaFe2As2. Our study indicates that the Fermi surface of the undoped, parent compound BaFe$_2$As$_2$ consists of hole pocket(s) at Gamma (0,0) and larger electron pocket(s) at X (1,0), in general agreement with full-potential linearized plane wave (FLAPW) calculations. Upon doping with potassium, the hole pocket expands and the electron pocket becomes smaller with its bottom approaching the chemical potential. Such an evolution of the Fermi surface is consistent with hole doping within a rigid band shift model. Our results also indicate that FLAPW calculation is a reasonable approach for modeling the electronic properties of both undoped and K-doped iron arsenites., Comment: 4 pages, 3 figures

Anisotropies of electrical resistivity, upper critical field, London penetration depth and critical currents have been measured in single crystals of the optimally doped iron pnictide superconductor Ba(Fe$_{1-x}$Co$_x$)$_2$As$_2$, $x$=0.074 and $T_c \sim$23 K. The normal state resistivity anisotropy was obtained by employing both the Montgomery technique and direct measurements on samples cut along principal crystallographic directions. The ratio $\gamma_{\rho} = \rho_c /\rho_a$ is about 4$\pm$1 just above $T_c$ and becomes half of that at room temperature. The anisotropy of the upper critical field, $\gamma_{H} = H_{c2,ab} /H_{c2,c} $, as determined from specific heat measurements close to $T_c$, is in the range of 2.1 to 2.6, depending on the criterion used. A comparable low anisotropy of the London penetration depth, $\gamma_{\lambda}=\lambda_{c}/\lambda_{ab}$, was recorded from TDR measurements and found to persist deep into the superconducting state. An anisotropy of comparable magnitude was also found in the critical currents, $\gamma_j=j_{c,ab}/j_{c,c}$, as determined from both direct transport measurements ($\sim$1.5) and from the analysis of the magnetization data ($\sim$3). Overall, our results show that iron pnictide superconductors manifest anisotropies consistent with essentially three-dimensional intermetallic compound and bear little resemblance to cuprates.

Composite $P - T$ phase diagrams for three parent compounds, AFe$_2$As$_2$ (A = Ba, Sr, Ca), are constructed and appear to be remarkably similar: (i) having a structural (antiferromagnetic) phase transition line with a negative slope and (ii) showing signs of the emerging superconducting state at intermediate pressures.

Recent investigations of the superconducting iron-arsenide families have highlighted the role of pressure, be it chemical or mechanical, in fostering superconductivity. Here we report that CaFe2As2 undergoes a pressure-induced transition to a non-magnetic, volume "collapsed" tetragonal phase, which becomes superconducting at lower temperature. Spin-polarized total-energy calculations on the collapsed structure reveal that the magnetic Fe moment itself collapses, consistent with the absence of magnetic order in neutron diffraction., Comment: accepted for publication in Phys. CaFe$_2$As$_2$ has been synthesized and found to form in the tetragonal, ThCr$_2$Si$_2$ structure with lattice parameters $a = 3.912(68) \AA$ and $c = 11.667(45) \AA$. Upon cooling through 170 K, CaFe$_2$As$_2$ undergoes a first order, structural phase transition to a low temperature, orthorhombic phase with a $2 - 3$ K range of hysteresis and coexistence. This transition is clearly evident in microscopic, thermodynamic and transport measurements. CaFe$_2$As$_2$ is the third member of the AFe$_2$As$_2$ (A = Ba, Sr, Ca) family to exhibit such a dramatic phase transition and is a promising candidate for studies of doping induced superconductivity.

Optical spectroscopy on single crystals of the new iron arsenide superconductor Ba{0.55}K{0.45}Fe2As2 shows that the infrared spectrum consists of two major components: a strong metallic Drude band and a well separated mid infrared absorption centered at 0.7 eV. It is difficult to separate the two components unambiguously but several fits of Lorentzian peaks suggest a model with a Drude peak having a plasma frequency of 1.8 to 2.1 eV and a midinfrared peak with a plasma frequency of 2.5 eV. In contrast to the cuprate superconductors the scattering rate obtained from the extended Drude model saturates at 150 meV as compared to 500 meV for a typical cuprate. Detailed analysis of the frequency dependent scattering rate shows that the charge carriers interact with broad bosonic spectrum with a peak at 25 meV and a coupling constant lambda =approx 2 at low temperature. As the temperature increases this coupling weakens to lambda=0.6 at ambient temperature. This suggests a bosonic spectrum that is similar to what is seen in the lower Tc cuprates., Comment: 4 pages, 4 figures

The radio frequency penetration depth was measured in the superconductor (Ba$_{0.55}$K$_{0.45}$)Fe$_{2}$As$_{2}$ under pulsed magnetic fields extending to 60 tesla and down to 14 K. Using these data we are able to infer a $H_{c2}(T)$, $H-T$ phase diagram, for applied fields parallel and perpendicular to the crystallographic c-axis. The upper critical field curvature is different for the respective orientations but they each remain positive down to 14 K. The upper critical field anisotropy is moderate, $\approx 3.5$ close to $T_c$, and drops with the decrease of temperature, reaching $\approx 1.2$ at $14 K$. These data and analysis indicate that (i) (Ba$_{0.55}$K$_{0.45}$)Fe$_{2}$As$_{2}$ anisotropy diminishes with temperature and has an unusual temperature dependence, (ii) $H_{c2} (T=0)$ for this compound may easily approach fields of 75 tesla., Comment: published version

4,5-Diaminofluorescein, a fluorescence indicator for NO, was applied to detect the release of NO from plant cells. NO production was increased within 3 min when plant cell cultures (Arabidopsis, parsley, and tobacco) were treated by cytokinin and was dose-dependent and signal-specific in that other plant hormones and inactive cytokinin analog were not effective in stimulating of NO release. The response was quenched by addition of 2-(aminoethyl)-2-thiopseudourea, an inhibitor of the animal NO synthase, and by addition of an NO scavenger, 2-(4-carboxyphenyl)-4,4,5,5-tetramethylimidazoline-1-1-oxy-3-oxide. These results imply that NO may act in cytokinin signal transduction.

In-plane surface Ka-band microwave impedance of optimally doped single crystals of the Fe-based superconductor Ba(Fe0.926Co0.074)2As2 (Tc= 22.8K) was measured. Sensitive sapphire disk quasi-optical resonator with high-Tc cuprate conducting endplates was developed specially for Fe-pnictide superconductors. It allowed finding temperature variation of London penetration depth in a form of power law, namely \Delta \lambda (T)~ Tn with n = 2.8 from low temperatures up to at least 0.6Tc consisted with radio-frequency measurements. This exponent points towards nodeless state with pairbreaking scattering, which can support one of the extended s-pairing symmetries. The dependence \lambda(T) at low temperatures is well described by one superconducting small-gap (\Delta \cong 0.75 in kTc units, where k is Boltzman coefficient) exponential dependence., Comment: 6 pages, 2 figures, to be published in Low Temperature Physics,vol.37, August 2011
