With the rapid increase of efficiency up to 23.7% during the past few years, hybrid organic-inorganic metal halide perovskite solar cells (PSCs) have become a research “hot spot” for many solar cell researchers. The perovskite materials show various advantages due to unique characteristics of perovskite materials, such as high photo-to-electric conversion efficiency, direct band gap, high light absorption coefficient, high charge-carrier mobility and long electron-hole electron transport distance. The low-cost fabrication techniques together with the high efficiency makes PSCs comparable with Si-based solar cells. This paper begins with the discussion of crystal structures of perovskite based on recent research findings. The following part of this paper discussion of synthetic process of lead iodide perovskite materials from lead-acid battery and Harvesting material from the anodes and cathodes of car battery; synthesizing PbI2 from the collected materials and compare with pure Lead iodide to know the absolute by XRD peak, depositing lead iodide perovskite nanocrystals. Efficient flexible PSCs are fabricated onto FTO glass substrate by a two-step coating method under ambient condition. By adjusting the concentration of precursor CH3NH3I (MAI), the morphology and thickness of perovskite layer is effectively tailored, according to SEM analysis and using TiO2 as electron transport layer instead of ZnO and CuI instead of spiro-OMeTAD as hole transport layer.

The world energy demand is continuously increasing. Due to environment issues, global warming, and other issues, there is a need for clean sources of energy, sustainable energy, i.e. renewable energy technologies. Photovoltaic (PV) technology employing solar energy is regarded as rather most promising and efficient technology among all the renewable energy industries. The further improvement in the efficiency and reliability and also reduction in cost are in great demand, for the healthy development of global economy. Among the third generation solar cells, perovskite cells have attracted a lot of attention due to their high efficiency and low cost construction methods. In this research, low-cost perovskite solar cell (PSC) was prepared, and its photovoltaic performance was investigated. In this project, we tried to get rid of some structures or materials which are harm to the environment. i.e. car batteries. By using lead sheets (from recycled car battery). However, by reusing car batteries we will avoid the disposal of toxic battery materials and provide an alternative, readily-available lead source for fabricating PSC. Perovskite solar cell was prepared by two-steps spin coating solution technique on glass substrates at various thermal annealing deposition temperature. Then photovoltaic performance of PSC was investigated, together with the stability of PSC, and the effect of annealing temperature of perovskite layer on performance of perovskite solar cell. The efficiency of the cell, subjected to thermal annealing at temperature of 100, for 12 minutes was (14.8%). Then the efficiency of the cell altered to (12.4%), after 105 days ageing at room temperature.

In this work, Myrrh gum was used with sodium alginate (SA) to create novel Myrrh-Alginate beads composite. These beads were produced utilizing the ionotropic gelation technique. Methylene blue (MB) was employed as a drug model to evaluate the kinetics of drug release and the capacity of the synthesized beads to function as a drug delivery system. The molecular interaction between sodium alginate and myrrh was confirmed by FTIR spectroscopy. The physical characteristics of the Myrrh-Alginate beads, including drug content, particle size, thermal properties, equilibrium water content (EWC), swelling behavior, and equilibrium swelling ratio (ESR), were studied to establish the hydrogel's response type, as well as the releasing kinetics at 37°C and in Phosphate buffer solution (PBS) at pH = 6.8 and 10. All beads (loaded and unloaded) were analyzed by Differential scanning calorimetry, Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD). The drug content percentages of the Myrrh-Alginate beads increased with a moderate fraction (5% ) of Myrrh but dropped with a higher Myrrh percentage. The Myrrh-Alginate beads absorbed more water and swelled more than the pure calcium alginate beads (S2) in pH 6.8 and 10 of (PBS). In a pH 6.8 of (PBS), the Myrrh-Alginate beads demonstrated a controlled and regulated style of releasing and demonstrated a high match with the Korsmeyer-Peppas model as they had the maximum values of the correlation factor (R2) in this model.

Regioselective functionalization of

Non-steroidal anti-infl ammatory medicines (NSAIDs) are medicines that are distributed widely across the world due to their ability to reduce pain and infl ammation. In order to boost the drug’s effi cacy and reduce its harmful side eff ect like GIT ulcers and bleeding, a newly synthesized series of 25-(1-(4-isobutylphenyl) ethyl)-1,3,4-oxadiazole-2-thiol derivatives compounds (C, C 1-3) were prepared from the reaction of ibuprofen hydrazide with carbon disulfi de followed by reaction with various Aryl/ alkyl halide. All target compounds were tested for antimicrobial effi cacy against various strains of bacteria (G+ve, S. pyrogenes and S. aureus) and (G-ve, E. coli and 1Klebsiella pneumoniae). Additionally, fungus species (Candida albicans). Compound C showed good antimicrobial activity for both bacterial strains. At the same time, Compound C1 have the best ant-bacterial activity compared with other synthesized compounds for1 both (G+ve), and (G-ve) bacteria, and compound C3 was the most aff ected one as antifungal. The compound C2 was with lowest antimicrobial activity. All of the produced compounds were examined for their anti-infl ammatory activity using (egg-white generate edema) and the compounds (C, C1, C3) showed good effi cacy when compared to ibuprofen (stander) FTIR and 1H-NMR spectroscopy were used to analyze all of the fi nal products.

Psoriasis refers to a medical condition involving long-term infl ammation, high insulin resistance, obesity and a likelihood of cardiovascular disease. Objective: This paper attempts to fi nd out if the addition of metformin to biological therapy has the benefi cial eff ect of increasing insulin sensitivity in moderate to severe Iraqi psoriatic patients. Subjects and Methods: The experimental group comprises 24 patients suff ering from moderate to severe psoriasis. They were randomly selected into two groups: group A comprises 13 psoriatic patients treated with 40 mg of adalimumab twice monthly for 12 weeks. While group B contains 11 psoriatic patients treated with 40 mg of adalimumab twice monthly and a single daily dose of 850 mg of metformin for 12 weeks. The psoriasis area and severity index (PASI), glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c), body mass index (BMI), as well as insulin-resistance parameters, which include fasting blood glucose (FBG) and fasting serum insulin (FSI) are estimated for each patient before and after completion of therapy. Results: The two groups showed a signifi cant reduction in insulin resistance. Nonetheless, group B showed greater reduction. The subject of this study was to optimize the transesterification parameters of biodiesel produced from sword bean (C. gladiate) using Response Surface Methodology (RSM). Four transesterification parameters (Reaction temperature 55 0C, Catalyst concentration 0.4 wt%, Methanol to oil ratio 4:1 and reaction time 60 min) were optimized. Data obtained revealed that the optimum reaction conditions for the transesterification of C. gladiata seed oil resulted in 92.88% biodiesel yield. Multiple regression analysis produced a quadratic polynomial equation for methylester and a linear relationship was recorded between the observed and predicted value (R2 = 0.9647) with a significant molar ratio and temperature. The interaction terms of methanol to oil, molar ratio and temperature with reaction time exhibited a positive effect on the methylester yield. The response surface methodology was found to be a suitable technique for optimizing transesterification process and producing biodiesel that meets the ASTM standard.

In this research paper, we tried to apply the work of Ali and Mahmood 2020 on the letters and words in the Syriac language to find a new encoding for them and increase the possibility of reading the message by other people.

The investigation of a study of each design included the calculation of its axial magnetic field the magnetization of the lens in addition to the magnetic flux density using Finite Element Method (FEM) at three different values of current density (σ = 2,4 and 6 A/mm2). So clearest values and behavior have been obtained at the value current density of (2 A/mm2). It is found that the best magnetizing properties, the highest value of magnetic flux and the lowest value of band width of the axial magnetic field strength have been obtained when the pole head shape length was of (1 mm). The effect of current density on the optical properties has been also studied, and it is found that optical properties have been improved also, and chromatic and spherical aberration values have been decreased significantly. Thus, lens was chosen as the best design among the proposed designs.

Edo North is in a low-lying plain with hilly terrain rising up to 672 meters above sea level in some area. It has good vegetation cover, forest reserves, network of perennial rivers and streams and favourable eco-climatic conditions ideal for tsetse breeding. Both primary and secondary socioeconomics, environmental and ecological-health derived data were subjected to descriptive and percentage statistical analyses. Interactive meetings were held with key informants (n=38); Local Government officials, community leaders and representatives of Fulani pan sociocultural group in Edo North were interviewed and administered questionnaire. Focus group discussions were held with herders (n=85) and natives (n=350) who freely participated. The huge livestock and dairy production potential of the study area are due to availability of natural forage, crop fodders, agro-based byproducts, and water all year round. Most herders (80%) and natives (60%) have good knowledge of the disease and vector, but only a few (10%) knows the mechanism of transmission. Prevailing mistrust and widespread apprehension over herders-farmers’ clashes and other criminalities were attributed to itinerant nomadic Fulani by majority opinions. Lack of access to grazing lands, perceived poor rate of returns using planted fodder and feed concentrates were viewed as uneconomic compared to traditional free range grazing. Most pastoralists believed that government support to livestock sub-sector is ridiculously low compared to crop commodities. The dire need to address the thematic areas that can strongly impact on job, wealth creation, means of livelihood, and substantially facilitate economic diversification drive cannot be overemphasized.

The COVID-19 pandemic still gains the attention of many researchers worldwide. Over the past few months, China faced a new wave of this pandemic which increases the risk of its spread to the rest of the world. Therefore, there has become an urgent demand to know the expected behavior of this pandemic in the coming period. In this regard, there are many mathematical models from which we may obtain accurate predictions about the behavior of this pandemic. Such a target may be achieved via updating the mathematical models taking into account the memory effect in the fractional calculus. This paper generalizes the power-law growth model of the COVID-19. The generalized model is investigated using two different definitions in the fractional calculus, mainly, the Caputo fractional derivative and the conformable derivative. The solution of the first-model is determined in a closed series form and the convergence is addressed. At a specific condition, the series transforms to an exact form. In addition, the solution of the second-model is evaluated exactly. The results are applied on eight European countries to predict the behavior/variation of the infected cases. Moreover, some remarks are given about the validity of the results reported in the literature.

Oral clefts, including cleft lip (CL), cleft palate (CP), and cleft lip and palate (CLP), are the most common types of congenital anomalies of the human face. Various genetic and environmental factors play a role in developing oral clefts. Several studies have shown the association of the PAX7 gene and the 8q24 region with these oral clefts in different populations worldwide. However, there are no reported studies on the possible connection between the PAX7 gene and the 8q24 region nucleotide variants and the risk of developing nonsyndromic oral clefts (NSOC) in the Indian population. Hence, this study aimed to test the possible association between PAX7 gene single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) rs880810, rs545793,rs80094639, and rs13251901 of the 8q24 region using a case-parent trio design. Forty case-parent trios were selected from the CLP center. Genomic DNA was isolated from the cases and their parents. The rs880810, rs545793, rs80094639, and rs13251901 were genotyped by the MassARRAY technique. PLINK software was used for statistical analysis. All the SNPs were tested for Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium. No statistical significance was found with any SNPs, as none of the genotyped SNPs showed a p-value of less than 0.05. Hence, the rs880810, rs545793, and rs80094639 of the PAX7 gene, and rs13251901 of the 8q24 region are not associated with NSOC in the Indian population.

Determining congestions on intersection roads can significantly improve the performance of a traffic light system. One of the everyday problems on our roads nowadays is the unbalanced traffic on different roads. The blind view of roads and the dependency on the conventional timer-based traffic light systems can cause unnecessary delays on some arterial roads on expense of offering a needless extra pass time on some other secondary minor roads. In this paper, a foreground extraction model has been built in MATLAB platform to measure the congestions on the different roads constructing an intersection. Results show a satisfactory performance in terms of accuracy in counting cars and in consequence reducing the wait time on some major roads. System was tested under different weather and lighting conditions, and results were adequately promising.

Aerosol-assisted chemical vapor deposition (AACVD) technique is very precise implemented to fabrication of structured SrTiO3 and Sr1-xBxTiO3 thin films at doping ratio (x = 2, 4, 6 and 8) % at temperature 400 °C on a glass substrate. The X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) patterns illustrated that the SrTiO3 and Sr1-xBxTiO3 thin films have a polycrystalline nature and cubic structure, the detailed characterization of the films by X-ray diffraction (XRD), the Surface Morphology studied by using (AFM) and (SEM). Have been noticed from AFM measurement the Roughness and RMS were increased with increases doping ratio. The optical properties of SrTiO3 and Sr1-xBxTiO3 thin films have been studied at doping ratio (x = 2, 4, 6 and 8) % at rate (300-900) nm. The transmittance spectrum is characterized by the opposite behavior of the absorbance spectrum. The transmittance generally increases with the increase in the wavelength of radiation, at wavelengths with low energies while the absorbance decreased slowly at spectrum rate (300-900) nm i.e. in the visible region. The band gap (Eg) is decreased at (3.2 - 2.5) eV which indicates that the doping process has led to the emergence of localized levels in the region confined by the valence and conduction bands, led to a reduction in the photon energy required for direct electronic transitions to occur. Found the carriers concentration charge are holes of Sr1-xBxTiO3 thin films at doping ratio (x = 2, 4, 6 and 8) %. Many properties can be improved by adding impurities such as Boron (B) to the SrTiO3, which can be used in solar cells, electronic industries or thermoelectric generators by controlling the optical or structural properties of the material by controlling the materials and percentages of impurity, or through heat treatment of the material, such as annealing, for example or exposure to different temperatures.

Adipocytokines has a significant impact on the development of many illnesses. (e.g. beta thalassemia), This research aims to determine the levels of Omentin-1, adipsin and resistin of (35) male patients their age (20–30) years that effected with Beta-Thalassemia city and (15) of healthy people as control group in Baghdad city by using enzyme linked immuonsorbant assay (ELISA). The findings of this research revealed a significant increase (p ≤ 0.01) in levels omentin-1, which are (78.33 ± 6.14) pg/mL in patients group and (35.88 ± 5.8) ) pg/mL in control group. The levels of adipsin show a significant increase (p ≤ 0.01), which are (603.13 ± 11.46) ng/mL in patients group and (171.76 ± 17.45) ng/mL in patients group in control group, also a significant increase (p ≤ 0.01) in the levels of resistin which are (2.1 ± 0.5) ng/mL and (0.35 ± 0.06) ng/mL in control group.

The convection heat transfers on a surface exposed to the fluid may be enhanced by attaching to the surface, known as the fins. To keep the system stable, heat transmission via solids, boundaries, or walls must be continuously dissipated to the environment or surroundings. A large quantity of heat must be dissipated from a small space in many engineering applications. A fin can boost the surface area’s effectiveness; hence, maximize convectional heat. Two shapes of straight aluminum fins have been used, cylindrical and star shape. The result shows that the star fins are appealing due to the same diameter and length; it has a lot more heat transfer than a cylindrical fin. In electronic devices, cylindrical and star fins are provided on the surface of the processor device. The result is done by SolidWorks simulation with 300 ºC on the surface as well as cylindrical and star fin. Input parameters like thermal conductivity, heat transfer coefficient, as well as fin’s density and dimensions are measured. The temperature distribution, heat flow, as well as heat flux all resembles output parameters.

No previous study has examined racial differences in recurrent acute myocardial infarction (AMI) in a community population. We aimed to examine racial differences in recurrent AMI risk, along with first AMI risk in a community population.The community surveillance of the Atherosclerosis Risk in Communities Study (2005-2014) included 470,000 people 35 to 84 years old in 4 U.S. communities. Hospitalizations for recurrent and first AMI were identified from ICD-9-CM discharge codes. Poisson regression models were used to compare recurrent and first AMI risk ratios between Black and White residents.Recurrent and first AMI risk per 1,000 persons were 8.8 (95% CI, 8.3-9.2) and 20.7 (95% CI, 20.0-21.4) in Black men, 6.8 (95% CI, 6.5-7.0) and 14.1 (95% CI, 13.8-14.5) in White men, 5.3 (95% CI, 5.0-5.7) and 16.2 (95% CI, 15.6-16.8) in Black women, and 3.1 (95% CI, 3.0-3.3) and 8.8 (95% CI, 8.6-9.0) in White women, respectively. The age-adjusted risk ratios (RR) of recurrent AMI were higher in Black men vs White men (RR, 1.58 95% CI, 1.30-1.92) and Black women vs White women (RR, 2.09 95% CI, 1.64-2.66). The corresponding RRs were slightly lower for first AMI: Black men vs White men, RR, 1.49 (95% CI, 1.30-1.71) and Black women vs White women, RR, 1.65 (95% CI, 1.42-1.92) CONCLUSIONS: Large disparities exist by race for recurrent AMI risk in the community. The magnitude of disparities is stronger for recurrent events than for first events, and particularly among women.

Many medical schools have implemented near-peer tutoring (NPT) programs based on the substantial benefits of these programs to both tutors and tutees. This study correlated the frequency of attending weekly NPT sessions to students' academic performance, and also compared performance of high and low attending students.Twenty-one weekly NPT sessions were delivered by fourth-year (M4) students to first-year (M1) students. Attendance was recorded, and accordingly students were divided into three groups, high (15-21 sessions), moderate (7-14 sessions), and low (0-6 sessions) attendance groups. Pearson product-moment correlation coefficient was computed to assess the relationship between students' frequency of attendance and their overall performance on overall basic medical sciences at the end of M1 year and M2 mid-year NBME® CBSE. Students' performance was also analyzed using ANCOVA and Bonferroni post hoc test to compare differences between the three attendance groups.An increase in number of attended NPT weekly sessions corresponds with an increase in students' performance on overall M1 basic sciences weighted average (Attending NPT weekly sessions is a valuable experience that is associated with an improvement in M1 medical students' academic performance. However, low performing students tend to miss attending NPT weekly sessions.

Objective The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of the high mobility group box protein 1 (HMGB1) serum and urinary levels and gene polymorphisms on systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) development and investigate their link to lupus nephritis (LN). Methods We enrolled 120 Egyptian SLE patients and 120 healthy controls. Thorough medical and clinical evaluation were carried out, and SLE disease activity index (SLEDAI) was assessed. Lupus patients were divided into two groups according to the presence of LN. Measurement of HMGB1 serum and urinary levels was done using ELISA and genotyping for HMGB1 ( rs1045411) was performed. Results There were statistically significantly higher HMGB1 serum and urinary levels in SLE patients ( p < 0.001). There was a marginally significant association between lupus and alleles ( p = 0.059, φ = −0.086). ‘C’ allele was marginally significant risk allele for SLE. After classifying SLE patients based on the presence or absence of LN, there was no significant difference as regard sex ( p = 0.387), age ( p = 0.208) and disease duration ( p = 0.094).However, there was a significant difference between the 2 groups in regard to the frequency of musculoskeletal manifestations ( p = 0.035), SLEDAI score ( p < 0.001), both serum ( p < 0.001) and urinary HMGB1 levels ( p < 0.001) in addition to the frequency of HMGB1 genotypes ( p = 0.003). Lupus patients with C/T-T/T HMGB1 genotypes had 3.5-times higher odds to exhibit LN. Conclusions Serum and urine HMGB1 measurements are helpful in the diagnosis of SLE and the prediction of LN. There is a link between HMGB1 gene variations and the risk of SLE, with evidence that the C/T-T/T HMGB1 genotype is linked to a significantly greater risk of LN in the Egyptian population.

This work investigated the development of magnetic and optical properties and the invention of a previously unused lens. Many new designs have been suggested for a unipolar magnetic lens based on changing the width of the inner bore and fixing the other geometrical parameters of the lens to improve the performance of unipolar magnetic lenses. The investigation of a study of each design included the calculation of its axial magnetic field the magnetization of the lens in addition to the magnetic flux density using Finite Element Method (FEM). it was found that the best magnetizing properties, the highest value of magnetic flux and the lowest value of band width of the axial magnetic field strength have been obtained when the width of the inner cavity was (55 mm). The effect of current density on the optical properties has been also studied, and it was found that the optical properties have been improved also, and the chromatic and spherical aberration values have decreased significantly. Thus, the lens (55 mm) was chosen as the best design among the proposed designs.

The term Metaverse ("meta" defined as beyond, transcendence or virtuality, and "verse" meaning universe or world) denotes a "virtual reality space" for anatomy teaching. To ascertain how many anatomists are familiar or are using this adjunct in teaching, we conducted a short survey at the 2022 annual meeting of the American Association of Clinical Anatomists (AACA). Interestingly, only six respondents (9.4%) had used a Metaverse for teaching anatomy. Moreover, the vast majority of attendees were anatomy educators or basic science faculty, but not practicing physicians/surgeons or other actively practicing health care professionals; a group where this technology has been used much more commonly. The present manuscript was authored by anatomy educators, practicing physicians and other actively practicing health care professionals with backgrounds in diverse medical fields, that is, anatomists, medical doctors, physician assistants, dentists, occupational therapists, physical therapists, chiropractors, veterinarians, and medical students. Many of these authors have used or have been exposed to a Metaverse in the clinical realm. Therefore, the aim of the paper is to better understand those who are knowledgeable of a Metaverse and its use in anatomy education, and to provide ways forward for using such technology in this discipline.

This paper presents an experimental work of using crushed glass mixed with the poorly graded sandy soil to investigate the possibility of shear strength parameters improvement using the direct shear test. The crushed glass is sieved and prepared for seven sets of percentages, the collected percentages of crushed glass represented a mix of glass retained on sieves No. 4, No. 8, No. 30, No. 100, and No. 200 and were added as a weight ratio of the sample for many cases. The main results of this work show that the mixing 10% of crushed glass for sieves No. 8, No. 200, and No. 50 increase the angle of internal friction of poorly graded sand (Ø˚) about 15%, 3%, and 29% respectively, and mixing 10% of crushed glass retained on sieve No. 4 decrease Ø˚ about 40%.

A 3D geological model is an essential step to reveal reservoir heterogeneity and reservoir properties distribution. In the present study, a three-dimensional geological model for the Mishrif reservoir was built based on data obtained from seven wells and core data. The methodology includes building a 3D grid and populating it with petrophysical properties such as (facies, porosity, water saturation, and net to gross ratio). The structural model was built based on a base contour map obtained from 2D seismic interpretation along with well tops from seven wells. A simple grid method was used to build the structural framework with 234x278x91 grid cells in the X, Y, and Z directions, respectively, with lengths equal to 150 meters. The total number of grids is (5919732) in the geological model. CPI (computer-processed interpretation) for 7 wells contain (facies, porosity, water saturation, and NTG) was imported to Petrel 2016 software. Facies log was upscaled and distributed along the 3D grid. Truncated Gaussian with trend method was used to distribute the facies taking into account the conceptual facies model of the Mishrif formation. The result shows that the trend of sedimentation suggests a retrogradation pattern from NW to SE. Facies1 (Reservoir), dominated by Limestone brown to light brown, with oil shows has good distribution within the area and thinning towards the NW. The petrophysical properties (porosity, water saturation, NTG, and permeability) were distributed using the Sequential Gaussian Simulation (SIS) method and the facies model as a guide for distribution. The results show that petrophysical properties enhanced in the southeast area, representing the reef region compared to the northwest side of the study area. Unit Mishrif B had the highest porosity value and lower water saturation value along the entire field. While the units Mishrif B1, B2, and B3 show a gradual decrease in reservoir properties towards the field's southeast side. Opioids are potent analgesics used for the treatment of moderate to severe acute and chronic cancer and non-cancer pain. However, opioid usage may be limited by negative side effects, such as potentially life-threatening respiratory depression.The aim of our study is to investigate the prevalence of opioid-induced respiratory depression (OIRD) and its predictors at King Abdulaziz Medical City in Jeddah (KAMC-JD).This is a retrospective cross-sectional (chart review) study conducted from January 1, 2016, to December 31, 2020.A total of 15,753 patients received opioids during admission to KAMC-JD, and only 144 (0.915%) of them received naloxone from January 1, 2016 to December 31, 2020. Only 91 patients (0.57%) developed opioid-induced respiratory depression (OIRD), which was more frequently reported among young and middle-aged adults. OIRD was significantly associated with receiving a daily morphine milligram equivalent (MME) dose of ≥150 MME and with having a low urea concentration at the baseline and at admission under surgery. Also, fentanyl use remained a significant risk factor for OIRD.In conclusion, monitoring patient receiving opioids with a daily MME dose of ≥150 MME, prescribed Fentanyl, low urea concentration at the baseline, and patients' admissions to the surgery department may mitigate the risk of developing OIRD.

This paper explores some novel solutions to the generalized Schrodinger-Boussinesq (gSBq) equations, which describe the interaction between complex short wave and real long wave envelope. In order to derive some novel complex hyperbolic and complex trigonometric function solutions, the sine-Gordon equation method (sGEM) is applied to the gSBq equations. Novel complex hyperbolic and trigonometric function solutions are expressed by the dark, bright, combo dark-bright, W -shaped, M -shaped, singular, combo singular, and periodic wave solutions. The accuracy of the explored solitons is examined under the back substitution to the corresponding equations via the symbolic computation software Maple. It is found from the back substitution outcomes that all soliton solutions satisfy the original equations. The proper significance of the explored outcomes is demonstrated by the three-dimensional (3D) and two-dimensional (2D) graphs, which are presented under the selection of particular values of the free parameters. All the combo-soliton (W-shaped, M-shaped, and periodic wave) solutions are found to be new for the interaction between complex short wave and real long wave envelope in laser physics that show the novelty of the study. Moreover, the applied method provides an efficient tool for exploring novel soliton solutions, and it overcomes the complexities of the solitary wave ansatz method.

Brown adipocytes react to temperature and nutritional challenges by ramping up their metabolism and generating heat. This adaptation to changes in the environment is crucial for defending organismal homeostasis, but is impaired in obesity and during aging. Writing in Nature, Niemann et al. show that brown adipocytes become apoptotic under thermoneutral conditions and release ATP, which in turn is converted extracellularly into inosine. They further present evidence that pharmacological and genetic manipulations that enhance signalling of this purine metabolite stimulates thermogenesis in brown adipocytes and promotes metabolic health.

Background Endoscopic vacuum therapy (EVT) is an effective treatment option for leakage of the upper gastrointestinal (UGI) tract. The aim of this study was to evaluate the clinical impact of quality improvements in EVT management on patients’ outcome. Methods All patients treated by EVT at our center during 2012–2021 were divided into two consecutive and equal-sized cohorts (period 1 vs. period 2). Over time several quality improvement strategies were implemented including the earlier diagnosis and EVT treatment and technical optimization of endoscopy. The primary endpoint was defined as the composite score MTL30 (mortality, transfer, length-of-stay > 30 days). Secondary endpoints included EVT efficacy, complications, in-hospital mortality, length-of-stay (LOS) and nutrition status at discharge. Results A total of 156 patients were analyzed. During the latter period the primary endpoint MTL30 decreased from 60.8 to 39.0% (P = .006). EVT efficacy increased from 80 to 91% (P = .049). Further, the need for additional procedures for leakage management decreased from 49.9 to 29.9% (P = .013) and reoperations became less frequent (38.0% vs.15.6%; P = .001). The duration of leakage therapy and LOS were shortened from 25 to 14 days (P = .003) and 38 days to 25 days (P = .006), respectively. Morbidity (as determined by the comprehensive complication index) decreased from 54.6 to 46.5 (P = .034). More patients could be discharged on oral nutrition (70.9% vs. 84.4%, P = .043). Conclusions Our experience confirms the efficacy of EVT for the successful management of UGI leakage. Our quality improvement analysis demonstrates significant changes in EVT management resulting in accelerated recovery, fewer complications and improved functional outcome.

Because of their superior antibacterial and pharmacokinetic capabilities, many nucleoside-based esters show potential against microorganisms, and may be used as pharmacological agents to address multidrug-resistant pathogenic problems. In this study, several aliphatic and aromatic groups were inserted to synthesize various 5′-O-decanoyluridine (2–5) and 5′-O-lauroyluridine derivatives (6–7) for antimicrobial, in silico computational, pharmacokinetic and POM (Petra/Osiris/Molinspiration). The chemical structures of the synthesized uridine derivatives were confirmed by physicochemical, elemental, and spectroscopic analyses. In vitro antimicrobial screening against five bacteria and two fungi, as well as the prediction of substance activity spectra (PASS), revealed that these uridine derivatives have promising antifungal properties when compared to the antibacterial activities. Density functional theory (DFT) was used to calculate the thermodynamic and physicochemical properties. Molecular docking was conducted against lanosterol 14a-demethylase CYP51A1 (3JUV) and Aspergillus flavus (1R4U) and revealed binding affinities and non-covalent interactions with the target. Then, a 150 ns molecular dynamic simulation was performed to confirm the behavior of the complex structure formed by microbial protein under in silico physiological conditions to examine its stability over time, which revealed a stable conformation and binding pattern in a stimulating environment of uridine derivatives. The acyl chain {CH3(CH2)9CO-} and {CH3(CH2)10CO-} in conjunction with sugar, was determined to have the most potent activity against bacterial and fungal pathogens in a structure-activity relationships (SAR) investigation. POM analyses were conducted with the presence of an antifungal (O δ− –- O’ δ−) pharmacophore site. Overall, the present study might be useful for the development of uridine-based novel multidrug-resistant antimicrobial. Novel uridine derivatives were designed and synthesized. The chemical structures and purity of these new uridine derivatives were confirmed by usual spectroscopic techniques. In vitro antimicrobial activity and SAR study was investigated. The incorporation of various aliphatic and aromatic groups in uridine structure significantly increased their biological activity. PASS prediction analysis indicated that the compounds were less potent as anti-carcinogenic agents (0.31 < Pa < 0.52) than as antimicrobial agents. Molecular docking analysis showed that the novel uridine derivatives 2, 5 and 6 may possess excellent effectiveness for lanosterol 14a-demethylase CYP51A1 (3JUV) and Aspergillus flavus (1R4U). The stability of the docked complex was confirmed by performing molecular dynamics along with an estimation of MMPB/GBSA binding free energy which ensured that complex of derivatives 2, 5 and 6 were reported in improved dynamics stability as revealed by their uniform RMSD and RMSF profiles. In silico ADMET calculations predicted improved pharmacokinetic properties of all uridine derivatives. The POM analysis showed the presence of an antifungal (O δ− --- O’ δ−) pharmacophore site.

Investments in digital health technologies such as artificial intelligence, wearable devices, and telemedicine may support Africa achieve United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goal for Health by 2030. We aimed to characterize and map digital health ecosystems of all 54 countries in Africa in the context of endemic infectious and non-communicable diseases (ID and NCD). We performed a cross-national ecological analysis of digital health ecosystems using 20-year data from the World Bank, UN Economic Commission for Africa, World Health Organization, and Joint UN Programme on HIV/AIDS. Spearman’s rank correlation coefficients were used to characterize ecological correlations between exposure (technology characteristics) and outcome (IDs and NCDs incidence/mortality) variables. Weighted linear combination model was used as the decision rule, combining disease burden, technology access, and economy, to explain, rank, and map digital health ecosystems of a given country. The perspective of our analysis was to support government decision-making. The 20-year trend showed that technology characteristics have been steadily growing in Africa, including internet access, mobile cellular and fixed broadband subscriptions, high-technology manufacturing, GDP per capita, and adult literacy, while many countries have been overwhelmed by a double burden of IDs and NCDs. Inverse correlations exist between technology characteristics and ID burdens, such as fixed broadband subscription and incidence of tuberculosis and malaria, or GDP per capita and incidence of tuberculosis and malaria. Based on our models, countries that should prioritize digital health investments were South Africa, Nigeria, and Tanzania for HIV; Nigeria, South Africa, and Democratic Republic of the Congo (DROC) for tuberculosis; DROC, Nigeria, and Uganda for malaria; and Egypt, Nigeria, and Ethiopia for endemic NCDs including diabetes, cardiovascular disease, respiratory diseases, and malignancies. Countries such as Kenya, Ethiopia, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Angola, and Mozambique were also highly affected by endemic IDs. By mapping digital health ecosystems in Africa, this study provides strategic guidance about where governments should prioritize digital health technology investments that require preliminary analysis of country-specific contexts to bring about sustainable health and economic returns. Building digital infrastructure should be a key part of economic development programs in countries with high disease burdens to ensure more equitable health outcomes. Though infrastructure developments alongside digital health technologies are the responsibility of governments, global health initiatives can cultivate digital health interventions substantially by bridging knowledge and investment gaps, both through technology transfer for local production and negotiation of prices for large-scale deployment of the most impactful digital health technologies.
