Satellite trackers can be used for studying sea turtle movement, illuminating their migrations and behaviours. However, many studies have focused on adult turtles, with uneven species representation, despite the importance of understanding movement and habitat use of turtles at all life-stages. Furthermore, few publications detail successful satellite tracker attachment methods, particularly for juveniles. Smaller-sized juvenile sea turtles often have an irregularly shaped carapace and are fast growing, rendering the attachment of rigid trackers in a safe and durable manner challenging. Juvenile hawksbill turtles’ specific carapace shape and imbricated scute arrangement further complicate satellite tracker attachment compared to juveniles of other turtle species. This study’s objective was to confirm the feasibility of an attachment method that would allow small-sized juvenile hawksbill turtles (~267-345 mm curved carapace length) to continue growing, without tracker loss or damage to underlying scutes. Replica trackers were made of resin (simulating Wildlife Computer Spot-387 trackers), and attached with epoxy, silicone and neoprene, using a technique modified from those used on neonate loggerheads and Kemp’s ridleys. Throughout the study (3.5 mo), replica trackers remained attached, the turtles grew up to 114% heavier and 25% longer, and all turtles appeared clinically healthy and active. Furthermore, all scutes were undamaged after tracker removal. As a critically endangered species, the paucity of data on hawksbill turtles, and specifically juveniles, can hinder evidence-based management decision-making. The improved ability to satellite track juvenile hawksbills can, therefore, help better our understanding of their ecology and inform management and conservation practices for this species.

Variation of a single ligand in the W(ii) alkyne complexes of bis(diphenylphosphino)acetylene leads to W(ii)/W(iii) redox potentials spanning a window of 850 mV. The corresponding dinuclear complexes with PdCl2 show differing catalytic activity.

To understand how turtles use the nesting habitat at Raine Island across a nesting season, and how the turtles respond to the restoration of the island’s dune systems, we identified 534 nesting events for 39 green turtles Chelonia mydas across 2 breeding seasons using data derived from satellite tags. Tracked turtles laid between 4 and 10 clutches of eggs. Patterns of nesting success varied between individuals, within and between seasons. Nesting success was higher in 2018-19 (57%) than 2017-18 (45%), and in both years, nesting success was lowest between October and early January (50%). The density of female turtles ashore was lower in 2018-19, and likely explains higher nesting success in 2018-19 because competition for nest space was lower. In 2017-18, females had more attempts per clutch, and the attempts were around 90 min longer. Consequently, energy required to lay a clutch of eggs in 2017-18 was significantly higher than in 2018-19, highlighting potential costs of lower nesting success rates on reproductive output. The area of beach re-profiled as an intervention in 2014 and 2017 was a nesting hotspot in 2017-18. However, in 2018-19, the area was not used to the same extent, and the nesting hotspot occurred on the north-eastern unaltered beach. Collectively, the tracking of turtles across the whole nesting season enabled us to assess overall beach use and nesting site fidelity of green turtles at Raine Island. Results will aid future planning and management of beach restoration activities at turtle nesting sites.

Detecting genomic alterations (GAs) in advanced urothelial carcinoma (aUC) can expand treatment options by identifying candidates for targeted therapies. Erdafitinib is FDA-approved for patients with platinum-refractory aUC with activating mutation or fusion in FGFR2/3. We explored the prevalence and spectrum of FGFR2/3 GAs identified with plasma cfDNA NGS testing (Guardant360) in 997 patients with aUC. FGFR2/3 GAs were detected in 201 patients (20%) with characterized activating GAs in 141 (14%). Our results indicate the Guardant360-based FGFR2/3 GA detection rate is similar to those described from previous studies employing tumor tissue testing, suggesting that plasma-based cfDNA NGS may non-invasively identify candidates for anti-FGFR targeted therapies.

We explore the effect of charge density wave (CDW) on the in-plane thermoelectric transport properties of (PbSe)1+δ(VSe2)1 and (PbSe)1+δ(VSe2)2 heterostructures. In (PbSe)1+δ(VSe2)1 we observe an abrupt 86% increase in the Seebeck coefficient, 245% increase in the power factor, and a slight decrease in resistivity over the CDW transition. This behavior is not observed in (PbSe)1+δ(VSe2)2 and is rather unusual compared to the general trend observed in other materials. The abrupt transition causes a deviation from the Mott relationship through correlated electron states. Raman spectra of the (PbSe)1+δ(VSe2)1 material show the emergence of additional peaks below the CDW transition temperature associated with VSe2 material. Temperature-dependent in-plane X-ray diffraction (XRD) spectra show a change in the in-plane thermal expansion of VSe2 in (PbSe)1+δ(VSe2)1 due to lattice distortion. The increase in the power factor and decrease in the resistivity due to CDW suggest a potential mechanism for enhancing the thermoelectric performance at the low temperature region.

This work presents the preparation of a series of [(PbSe)1+δ]4[TiSe2]4 isomers via a low temperature synthesis approach that exploits precursor nanoarchitecture to direct formation of specific isomers. The targeted isomers formed even when the precursors did not have the correct amount of each element to make a unit cell from each repeating sequence of elemental layers deposited. This suggests that the exact composition of the precursors is less important than the nanoarchitecture in directing the formation of the compounds. The as-deposited diffraction data show that the isomers begin to form during the deposition, and Ti2Se, in addition to PbSe and TiSe2, are present in the specular diffraction patterns. HAADF-STEM images reveal impurity layers above and below an integer number of targeted isomer unit cells. The structural data suggest that Ti2Se forms as Se is deposited on the initial Ti layers and remains throughout isomer self-assembly. During growth, the isomers deplete the local supply of Ti and Pb, creating diffusion gradients that drive additional cations toward the growth front, which leaves surface impurity layers of TiSe2 and TiO2 after the supply of Pb is exhausted. The deposited stacking sequences direct formation of the targeted isomers, but fewer repeating units form than intended due to the lack of material per layer in the precursor and formation of impurity layers. All isomers have negative Hall and Seebeck coefficients, indicating that electrons are the majority carrier. The carrier concentration and conductivity of the isomers increase with the number of interfaces in the unit cell, resulting from charge donation between adjacent layers. The opposite variation of the carrier concentration and mobility with temperature result in minima in the resistivity between 50 and 100 K. The very weak temperature dependence of the carrier concentration likely results from changes in the amount of charge transfer between the layers with temperature.

Following civil unrest during 2020, physicians began to notice a variety of injuries resulting from crowd control weapons. While prior research emphasized ocular trauma, genitourinary complications of injuries have yet to be investigated. A previously healthy 27-year-old male presented to the emergency department due to sudden onset of severe left testicular pain following rubber bullet trauma. Physical exam showed extreme tenderness, abrasion, contusion, and edema of the left testicle with normal right testicle. Doppler ultrasound showed minimal blood flow to the superior pole with irregularity of the tunica albuginea. Surgery confirmed testicular rupture with a large tunical violation and extruded spermatic tubules. The testicle was thoroughly irrigated, non-viable tubules were debrided, and intraoperative ultrasound confirmed restoration of blood flow. Patient was discharged and instructed to follow-up should he face any fertility concerns in the future. Current crowd control guidelines state projectiles should be aimed at the lower abdomen or extremities; however, projectiles can cause testicular trauma which may lead to hypogonadism, infection, and psychological impact. Until there are changes to methods of crowd control, attendees should consider the use of athletic cups.

A series of [(SnSe)1+δ]m[TiSe2]2 heterostructure thin films built up from repeating units of m bilayers of SnSe and two layers of TiSe2 were synthesized from designed precursors. The electronic structure of the films was investigated using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy for samples with m = 1, 2, 3, and 7 and compared to binary samples of TiSe2 and SnSe. The observed binding energies of core levels and valence bands of the heterostructures are largely independent of m. For the SnSe layers, we can observe a rigid band shift in the heterostructures compared to the binary, which can be explained by electron transfer from SnSe to TiSe2. The electronic structure of the TiSe2 layers shows a more complicated behavior, as a small shift can be observed in the valence band and Se3d spectra, but the Ti2p core level remains at a constant energy. Complementary UV photoemission spectroscopy measurements confirm a charge transfer mechanism where the SnSe layers donate electrons into empty Ti3d states at the Fermi energy.

Background An incomplete circle of Willis (CoW) has been associated with a higher risk of stroke and might affect collateral flow in large vessel occlusion (LVO) stroke. We aimed to investigate the distribution of CoW variants in a LVO stroke and transient ischemic attack (TIA) cohort and analyze their impact on 3‐month functional outcome. Methods CoW anatomy was assessed with time‐of‐flight magnetic resonance angiography (TOF‐MRA) in 193 stroke patients with acute middle cerebral artery (MCA)‐M1‐occlusion receiving endovascular treatment (EVT) and 73 TIA patients without LVO. The main CoW variants were categorized into four vascular models of presumed collateral flow via the CoW. Results 82.4% (n = 159) of stroke and 72.6% (n = 53) of TIA patients had an incomplete CoW. Most variants affected the posterior circulation (stroke: 77.2%, n = 149; TIA: 58.9%, n = 43; p = 0.004). Initial stroke severity defined by the National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) on admission was similar for patients with and without CoW variants. CoW integrity did not differ between groups with favorable (modified Rankin Scale [mRS]): 0–2) and unfavorable (mRS: 3–6) 3‐month outcome. However, we found trends towards a higher mortality in patients with any type of CoW variant (p = 0.08) and a higher frequency of incomplete CoW among patients dying within 3 months after stroke onset (p = 0.119). In a logistic regression analysis adjusted for the potential confounders age, sex and atrial fibrillation, neither the vascular models nor anterior or posterior variants were independently associated with outcome. Background and objectives To compare the detection rates of sentinel lymph nodes after converting the tracer technique from blue dye to indocyanine green (ICG). Methods Patients with uterine or cervical cancer were enrolled for sentinel lymph node (SLN) dissection. A total of 109 consecutive patients were analyzed and compared to a historical cohort of 109 consecutive patients with the sentinel blue dye technique. SLNs were analyzed by ultrastaging. Results The bilateral mapping rate of sentinel nodes was significantly higher with the ICG (78%; n = 85) compared to the blue dye tracer (61%; n = 67; p = .006). Neither the mean number of SLN nor the rate of low volume metastases showed significant differences between both cohorts. In the subgroup of endometrial cancer patients, the number of systematic lymph node dissection (LND) was significantly lower in the ICG cohort compared to the blue dye cohort (9% vs. 28%, p = .001). Conclusions ICG improved the detection rate of pelvic SLN compared to blue dye and may be considered as the superior technique. In clinical practice, the rate of systematic LND further decreased after incorporating SLN mapping with ICG. Reliable safety data are still pending.

We report cross-plane thermoelectric measurements of SnSe and SnSe2 films grown by the modulated element reactant (MER) approach. These materials exhibit ultralow cross-plane thermal conductivities, which are advantageous for thermoelectric energy conversion. The initially grown SnSe films have relatively low cross-plane Seebeck coefficients (−38.6 μV/K) due to significant unintentional doping originating from Se vacancies when annealed in nitrogen, as a result of the relatively high vapor pressure of Se. By performing postgrowth annealing at a fixed Se partial pressure (300 °C for 30 min using SnSe2 as the Se source in a sealed tube), a transition from SnSe to SnSe2 is induced, which is evidenced by clear changes in the X-ray diffraction patterns of the films. This results in a 16-fold increase in the cross-plane Seebeck coefficient (from −38.6 to −631 μV/K) after Se annealing due to both the SnSe-to-SnSe2 transition and the mitigation of unintentional doping by Se vacancies. The composition and thickness of thin films determine their physical properties, making the ability to measure the number of atoms of different elements in films both technologically and scientifically important. For thin films, below a certain thickness, the X-ray fluorescence intensity of an element is proportional to the number of atoms. Converting this intensity to the number of atoms per unit area is challenging due to experimental geometries and other correction factors. Hence, the ratio of intensities is more commonly used to determine the composition in terms of element ratios using standards or a model. Here, the number of atoms per unit area was determined using X-ray structure information for over 20 different crystallographically aligned samples with integral unit cell thicknesses. Preparing homologous series of compounds allows chemists to rapidly discover new compounds with predictable structure and properties. Synthesizing compounds within such a series involves navigating a free energy landscape defined by the interactions within and between constituent atoms. Historically, synthesis approaches are typically limited to forming only the most thermodynamically stable compound under the reaction conditions. Presented here is the synthesis, via self-assembly of designed precursors, of isocompositional incommensurate layered compounds [(BiSe)1+δ] m[TiSe2] m with m = 1, 2, and 3. The structure of the BiSe bilayer in the m = 1 compound is not that of the binary compound, and this is the first example of compounds where a BiSe layer thicker than a bilayer in heterostructures has been prepared. Specular and in-plane X-ray diffraction combined with high-resolution electron microscopy data was used to follow the formation of the compounds during low-temperature annealing and the subsequent decomposition of the m = 2 and 3 compounds into [(BiSe)1+δ]1[TiSe2]1 at elevated temperatures. These results show that the structure of the precursor can be used to control reaction kinetics, enabling the synthesis of kinetically stable compounds that are not accessible via traditional techniques. The data collected as a function of temperature and time enabled us to schematically construct the topology of the free energy landscape about the local free energy minima for each of the products.

Single- and few-layer metal chalcogenide compounds are of significant interest due to structural changes and emergent electronic properties on reducing dimensionality from three to two dimensions. To explore dimensionality effects in SnSe, a series of [(SnSe)1+δ]mTiSe2 intergrowth structures with increasing SnSe layer thickness (m = 1-4) were prepared from designed thin-film precursors. In-plane diffraction patterns indicated that significant structural changes occurred in the basal plane of the SnSe constituent as m is increased. Scanning transmission electron microscopy cross sectional images of the m = 1 compound indicate long-range coherence between layers whereas the m ≧ 2 compounds show extensive rotational disorder between the constituent layers. For m ≧ 2, the images of the SnSe constituent contain a variety of stacking sequences of SnSe bilayers. Miniaturization of microelectronic devices has reached a fundamental scaling limit; parasitic electron tunneling through the ultrathin gate dielectric has become a major obstacle to continued device performance. One method for overcoming this limitation is to replace SiO2 gate dielectrics with thicker high-κ metal oxides. La2O3 and ZrO2 are two such materials that have received significant interest, but low stability to post-anneal water absorption and low-crystallization temperatures, respectively, have limited their widespread use. We recently reported an aqueous, all-inorganic route to high-κ lanthanum zirconium oxide dielectric films (1/1 La/Zr), which mitigates the disadvantages of the binary oxides but maintains their high-κ properties. In this contribution, we vary the La/Zr ratio of the aqueous precursor to optimize the properties of the resulting films. We find that the La0.20Zr0.80Oy composition is optimal for providing a high dielectric constant (∼18.2 at 600 °C) while maintaining excellent film morphology and stability. 20% La was necessary to prevent crystallization up to 600 °C, but films with higher La content displayed diminished dielectric constants and decreased stability towards post-anneal water absorption.

Several members of a new family of heterostructures [(LaSe)1.17]1Vn(1+y)+1Se2n+2 with n = 1, 2, and 3 were prepared using a diffusion constrained, kinetically controlled synthesis approach. Specular diffraction patterns collected as a function of annealing temperature show the evolution of designed precursors into highly ordered heterostructures. Scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM) images reveal that the structure of n = 3 consists of rock salt structured LaSe bilayers alternating with vanadium selenide layers of varying thickness, which are structurally closely related to V3Se4. Interplanar distances obtained from the STEM images were successfully used as the starting point for Rietveld refinements of the specular diffraction patterns of these crystallographically aligned compounds. Submarine canyons are common features of the coastal ocean. Although they are known to be hotspots of turbulence that enhance diapycnal transport in their stratified waters, the dynamics of canyon mixing processes are poorly understood. Most studies of internal wave dynamics within canyons have focused on a handful of canyons with along-axis slopes less steep than semidiurnal (D2) internal wave characteristics (subcritical). Here, we present the first tidally-resolving observations within a canyon with a steeply sloping axis (supercritical). A process study consisting of two 24-hour shipboard stations and a profiling mooring was conducted in the La Jolla Canyon off the coast of La Jolla, CA. Baroclinic energy flux is oriented up-canyon and decreases from 182 ± 18 W m−1 at the canyon mouth to 46 ± 5 W m−1 near the head. The ratio of horizontal kinetic energy to available potential energy and the observed group speed of each mode are lower than expected for freely propagating D2 internal waves at each station, indicating partial reflection. Harmonic analysis reveals that variance is dominated by the D2 tide. Moving up-canyon, the relative importance of D2 decreases and its higher harmonics are needed to account for a majority of the observed variance, indicating steepening. Steep internal tides cause large isopycnal displacements (∼50 m in 100m water depth) and high strain events. These events coincide with enhanced O(10−7 -10−5 m2 s−3) dissipation of turbulent kinetic energy at mid-depths.

Introduction: The irreversible pan-HER inhibitor NER showed modest single agent activity for HER2mut MBC in Part I of MutHER trial. In Part II, we hypothesized that (1) N+F would improve activity in estrogen receptor positive (ER+) HER2mut MBC due to ER-HER2 crosstalk and (2) dual HER2 blockade by adding trastuzumab at disease progression (PD) could overcome resistance. Methods: Pts with ER+HER2mut MBC were enrolled to 2 cohorts (FUL treated or naive) to receive N+F with diarrhea prophylaxis. ER- pts received NER in an exploratory ER- cohort. Trastuzumab was added at PD if approved by insurance. Simon's Minimax 2-stage phase II design with the primary endpoint of clinical benefit rate (CBR: rates of complete/partial response [CR/PR] plus stable disease [SD] >24 weeks [wks]), with anticipated vs null hypothesis being CBR of 55% vs 35% (FUL treated) or 65% vs 40% (FUL naïve) with 80% power, 1 sided 0.05 alpha, was used. Secondary endpoints included progression free survival (PFS) and adverse events (AEs). Serial blood samples were analyzed for circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) by Guardant360 for concomitant mutations, HER2mut variant allele frequency (VAF) dynamics, and resistance mechanisms. Results: Between Sep. 2015 and Oct. 2020, 40 pts with HER2mut MBC were enrolled, completing the 1st stage of each ER+ cohort. 35 pts (21 FUL treated, 10 FUL naïve, 4 ER-) were evaluable for response, with median age 63 (35-82) years, 3 (0-12) prior MBC regimen, lobular BC in 13 (37%) and visceral mets in 32 (91%) pts. 21 (68%) ER+ pts had prior CDK4/6 inhibitor. All but 1 pt has come off study due to PD. Table 1 shows the efficacy by cohort. Further enrollment is closed per protocol. Adding trastuzumab at PD induced CB in 4 (3 PR, 1 SD≥24 wks) of 5 pts (1 ER-, 4 ER+), with PFS 28 (95% CI 18~NA) wks. Common AEs across cohorts were diarrhea (G3 21%) and fatigue (G3 5%). No G4 AEs. ctDNA HER2mut was detected in 72% (23/32) baseline (BL) samples tested. In pts with paired samples, HER2mut VAF decreased at C1D15/C2D1 from BL in 75% (15/20) and rose in 89% (16/18) at PD. Acquired HER2mut, including the T798I gatekeeper mutation, were detected in 2 pts at PD. Mutations in TP53 (53%), PIK3CA (43%), and CDH1 (35%) were common, but none significantly associated with PFS in all or ER+ pts. Conclusions: NER, or N+F, is active for HER2mut MBC with good tolerability. Adding trastuzumab at PD induced further response, supporting dual HER2 blockade for HER2mut MBC. Self-assembly of designed precursors has enabled the synthesis of novel heterostructures that exhibit extensive rotational disorder between constituents. In (SnSe)1.2TiSe2 nanoscale regions of long-range order were observed in scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM) cross sectional images. Here a combination of techniques are used to determine the structure of this compound, and the information is used to infer the origin of the order. In-plane X-ray diffraction indicates that the SnSe basal plane distorts to match TiSe2. This results in a rectangular unit cell that deviates from both the bulk structure and the square in-plane unit cell previously observed in heterostructures containing SnSe bilayers separated by layers of dichalcogenides. We report cross-plane thermoelectric measurements of misfit layered compounds (SnSe)n(TiSe2)n (n = 1,3,4,5), approximately 50 nm thick. Metal resistance thermometers are fabricated on the top and bottom of the (SnSe)n(TiSe2)n material to measure the temperature difference and heat transport through the material directly. By varying the number of layers in a supercell, n, we vary the interface density while maintaining a constant global stoichiometry. The Seebeck coefficient measured across the (SnSe)n(TiSe2)n samples was found to depend strongly on the number of layers in the supercell (n). When n decreases from 5 to 1, the cross-plane Seebeck coefficient decreases from −31 to −2.5 μV/K, while the cross-plane effective thermal conductivity decreases by a factor of 2, due to increased interfacial phonon scattering. Controlling carrier concentration is critical in many device applications, and both chemical substitution and modulation doping have been used in industry. For most inorganic materials, very low doping efficiencies are observed as site occupancies depend on both thermodynamic and kinetic factors. We demonstrate that we can make kinetically controlled site-specific substitutions in a series of (BixSn1–xSe)1+δTiSe2 compounds using the modulated elemental reactants method. These compounds were characterized using a combination of X-ray diffraction, resistivity and Hall coefficient measurements, and high angle annular dark field scanning transmission electron microscopy (HAADF STEM). For small x, the doping efficiency is 0.7, close to that observed for B in silicon. For higher x values, a structural distortion is observed in X-ray diffraction data in which the symmetry of the in-plane unit cell decreases. OBJECTIVEWe found previously that inappropriate inpatient antimicrobial use was often attributable to erroneous diagnoses. Here, we detail diagnostic errors and their relationship to inappropriate antimicrobial courses.DESIGNRetrospective cohort studySETTINGVeterans Affairs hospitalPATIENTSA cohort of 500 randomly selected inpatients with an antimicrobial courseMETHODSBlinded reviewers judged the accuracy of the initial provider diagnosis for the condition that led to an antimicrobial course and whether the course was appropriate.RESULTSThe diagnoses were correct in 291 cases (58%), incorrect in 156 cases (31%), and of indeterminate accuracy in 22 cases (4%). In the remaining 31 cases (6%), the diagnosis was a sign or symptom rather than a syndrome or disease. The odds ratio of a correct diagnosis was 4.3 (95% confidence interval [CI], 2.2–8.5) if the index condition was related to the reason for admission. When the diagnosis was correct, 181 of 292 courses (62%) were appropriate, compared with only 10 of 208 (5%) when the diagnosis was incorrect or indeterminate or when providers were treating a sign or symptom rather than a syndrome or disease (PCONCLUSIONSDiagnostic accuracy is important for optimal inpatient antimicrobial use. Reward mediates the acquisition and long-term retention of procedural skills in humans. Yet, learning under rewarded conditions is highly variable across individuals and the mechanisms that determine interindividual variability in rewarded learning are not known. We postulated that baseline functional connectivity in a large-scale frontostriatal-limbic network could predict subsequent interindividual variability in rewarded learning. Resting-state functional MRI was acquired in two groups of subjects (n = 30) who then trained on a visuomotor procedural learning task with or without reward feedback. We then tested whether baseline functional connectivity within the frontostriatal-limbic network predicted memory strength measured immediately, 24 h and 1 month after training in both groups. We found that connectivity in the frontostriatal-limbic network predicted interindividual variability in the rewarded but not in the unrewarded learning group. Prediction was strongest for long-term memory. Similar links between connectivity and reward-based memory were absent in two control networks, a fronto-parieto-temporal language network and the dorsal attention network. The results indicate that baseline functional connectivity within the frontostriatal-limbic network successfully predicts long-term retention of rewarded learning.

Synthesis and characterization of Mg x Zr2−x N2 (0.5 ≤ x ≤ 1.8) thin films deposited by reactive magnetron co-sputtering in nitrogen plasma is reported. Composition measurements show that nitrides with low oxygen content (less than 1%) can be formed up to x = 1.0, at which point an increase in oxygen content is observed. Up to composition of x = 1.6 the Mg x Zr2−x N2 thin films form in a rocksalt-derived crystal structure, as revealed by X-ray diffraction measurements. At x > 1.6 the films rapidly oxidize. The lattice constant of the stoichiometric MgZrN2 composition is a = 4.537 A, and only small changes in lattice parameter are observed with changing composition. Electrical conductivity decreases by several orders of magnitude with increasing Mg-content. The conductivity of Mg-rich (x ≥ 1) films increases with increasing measurement temperature, indicating semiconducting character of Mg-rich Mg x Zr2−x N2. Optical absorption measurements of these Mg-rich samples show a clear absorption onset at 1.8 eV, also indicative of semiconducting behavior.

In this paper, we consider classical circle geometries and connect them with places of planar Cayley–Klein geometries. There are, in principle, only three types of \( {{\mathbb{R}}^2} \)-ring structures and, thus, only three types of corresponding circle geometries. Thus, each generalization to non-Euclidean planes turns out to be just another representation of the classical Euclidean cases. We believe that even the Euclidean cases of circle geometries comprise, in principle, already all non-Euclidean cases. Representations of such non-Euclidean circle geometries might also be of interest in themselves. For example, among the planar Cayley–Klein geometries, the quasi-elliptic and quasi-hyperbolic geometry usually are neglected. They can be treated similarly to the isotropic Mobius geometry by suitable projections of the Blaschke cylinder.
