In order to further improve the reliability of broadcasting and suppress broadcast storm in Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks, a Real-time Successful Broadcasting Ratio and Distance Based Broadcast (RSBDB) algorithm is proposed. The algorithm dynamically calculates the forwarding probability of a node based on the real-time successful broadcasting ratio of the current node and the distance between the current node and the previous node. A node with higher real-time successful broadcasting ratio and longer distance has larger forwarding probability. Meanwhile, RSBDB also adopts mechanisms such as deferring a random time before transmitting and piggybacking neighbor information in data packets to further suppress broadcast storm and improve broadcast reliability. Simulation results show that RSBDB performs well in suppressing broadcast storm and improving the broadcast reliability.
