Werner syndrome (WS), also known as adult progeria, is a rare autosomal recessive inherited progeroid syndrome characterised by multiple features consistent with accelerated ageing. This disease is associated with several rheumatic conditions such as early osteoarthritis and osteoporosis, sarcopenia, soft-tissue calcifications, gout, limb ulcers and scleroderma-like skin features. WS should be included in the differential diagnosis of systemic sclerosis. The diagnosis is clinical, and in 90% of cases, a genetic test reveals a pathogenic variant of the WRN gene.WRN encodes a member of the RecQ family of DNA helicases and has a role in DNA repair. 86 different pathological WRN mutations have been identified so far. Here we present a case report of a typical WS patient associated with a newly described genetic variant of the WRN gene.

The rhizosphere microbiome plays a key role in plant protection against soil-borne pathogens. Plant breeding for resistance against soil-borne pathogens can alter the rhizosphere microbiome. However, most studies have focused on bacterial and fungal communities, leaving the role of the virus and viroids unassessed. Here, we tested the influence of resistance breeding on the composition of rhizosphere viruses and viroids. By analyzing metatranscriptomes from the rhizosphere of common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris) cultivars with varying resistance to the soil-borne pathogen Fusarium oxysporum, we recovered sequences representing 78 and 23 novel populations of viruses and viroids, respectively. We compared the abundances of these infectious agents across the different cultivars and found that the Fusarium-resistant cultivar harbored >1.2 times more viroids and a more different composition of viroids and viruses than less resistant plants. Given their role in interfering with host metabolism and their potential influence on plant-fungi associations, our study suggests that changes in the rhizosphere infectome are an important consideration in breeding for resistance against soil-borne pathogens.

O estudo analisou a relação entre o tempo sentado e de exercício físico com o perfil lipídico e hemoglobina glicada (HbA1c) em portadores de Diabetes Mellitus Tipo 1 (DM1). Participaram do estudo 81 pacientes de ambos os sexos, com idade de 4 a 19 anos e diagnosticados com DM1 a pelo menos 1 ano atendidos no Centro Interdisciplinar em Diabetes (CENID) da Universidade de Marília (UNIMAR). Foram realizadas dosagens de colesterol total (CT), triglicérides, HDL-c eLDL-c, apolipoproteína B (ApoB) e hemoglobina glicada HbA1c. O tempo sentado e de exercício físico foi coletado por meio do recordatório de atividade física de Bouchard. A amostra demonstrou que quanto menor o tempo envolvido na prática de exercícios físicos, maiores são os valores das variáveis do perfil lipídico e HbA1c o que sugere grande relevância do exercício físico para o controle metabólico dos lipídios e HbA1c em portadores de DM1, portanto a sua recomendação é de extrema importância para evitar futuras complicações neste público.

O presente estudo analisou a influência do nível de atividade física (NAF) sobre o desempenho cardiorrespiratório, a força de preensão manual e dos membros inferiores em crianças e adolescentes com sobrepeso e obesidade. Os dados utilizados para avaliar a capacidade cardiorrespiratória foram obtidos por meio do teste de Leger adaptado e da estimativa indireta do consumo máximo de oxigênio (VO2max) por equação. A avaliação da força dos membros superiores foi realizada com o dinamômetro de preensão manual, enquanto o teste de salto horizontal foi aplicado para avaliar a força dos membros inferiores. Não foi observada relação significativa entre o nível de atividade física (NAF) e o VO2max. No entanto, foi identificado que o aumento do NAF é um fator importante para a manutenção e desenvolvimento da força dos membros superiores em crianças e adolescentes com obesidade. O baixo NAF da amostra explica a alta proporção de baixo desempenho na força dos membros inferiores no teste de salto horizontal.

Objetivo foi analisar o desempenho de força de preensão manual de crianças e adolescentes com DM1. A amostra foi de 54 pacientes do Centro Interdisciplinar em Diabetes (CENID, de ambos os sexos (masculino= 28; feminino=26) e idade de 7 a 19 anos, com diagnostico de DM1 há no mínimo 12 meses. Foram obtidos dados sobre a idade, nível de atividade física (NAF), diagnóstico, método de insulinização, composição corporal e força de preensão manual por dinamometria. A força foi categorizada de acordo com a idade e sexo em: déficit de força; força normal; e força elevada. Independente do sexo, 53,7% da amostra apresentou déficit de força da mão dominante e 70,4% na mão não dominante. O sexo masculino apresentou maior proporção de déficit de força de preensão manual, com 64,3% na mão dominante e 78,6% na mão não dominante. As meninas apresentaram 42,3% de déficit de força na mão dominante e 61,5% na mão não dominante. Em ambos os sexos foi observado eleva proporção de déficit de força, sendo este mais evidente na mão não dominante. O baixo desempenho de força pode estar relacionado ao baixo nível de atividade física, pois, 92,5% foi classificada como sedentária

Este estudo analisou o perfil antropométrico e composição corporal de crianças e adolescentes com Diabetes Mellitus tipo 1, relacionando idade, sexo e tempo de diagnóstico. A amostra consistiu de 64 indivíduos (26 meninas e 38 meninos) atendidos no Centro Interdisciplinar em Diabetes (CENID). Foram coletados dados clínicos e medidas antropométricas, como massa corporal, estatura, circunferência do braço e da coxa medial, e dobras cutâneas no tríceps e na coxa medial. Os resultados indicaram que o aumento da idade e do tempo de doença afetou negativamente a composição corporal, exceto para as medidas de circunferência do braço e da coxa medial. A prevalência de sobrepeso e obesidade (avaliada pelo IMC) foi alta, e mais da metade dos participantes apresentou baixa massa corporal para a idade, sugerindo um possível impacto negativo do DM1 na distribuição de gordura corporal e massa muscular.

Os gliomas cerebrais são tumores primários do sistema nervoso central que se desenvolvem a partir de células gliais e têm alta morbimortalidade. Seu tratamento padrão envolve a ressecção cirúrgica, radioterapia e quimioterapia, os quais possivelmente podem levar os pacientes a um prognóstico desfavorável. Nesse contexto, a neuroproteção entra como uma aliada para minimizar os efeitos colaterais da ressecção cirúrgica e melhorar a sobrevida e a qualidade de vida dos pacientes. Nesse sentido, o presente estudo tem como objetivo discutir sobre a evidência atual da neuroproteção na ressecção cirúrgica de gliomas cerebrais. Para isso, foram selecionados quatro artigos que que abordavam sobre a evidência atual da neuroproteção na ressecção cirúrgica de gliomas cerebrais, por meio de uma estratégia de busca com recorte temporal entre 2014 e 2023, nas bases de dados PubMed (Medline), Embase e Cochrane Library. Os resultados indicam que o grupo de pacientes que recebeu dexmedetomidina apresentou melhora significativa na cognição e redução da inflamação cerebral em comparação com o grupo-controle pós-ressecção dos gliomas cerebrais, além de menor incidência de efeitos colaterais anestésicos, como náusea e vômitos (p < 0,05). Ademais, foi observado que a modulação da via metabólica do glutamato/glutamina pode inibir o crescimento de gliomas e proteger o parênquima cerebral. Nesse sentido, as evidências atuais indicam que proteger as células nervosas é uma estratégia importante para minimizar os efeitos colaterais da ressecção cirúrgica de gliomas cerebrais, e a dexmedetomidina e a co-cultura de células de glioma e astrócitos que aumenta a concentração extracelular de glutamato e glutamina parecem ser importantes aliadas nessa profilaxia.

The presence of salts in the culture medium and the addition of phytohormones, necessary to break seed dormancy in the in vitro germination of passion fruit, can induce critical values of osmotic potential. This can change the membrane permeability of seeds, affecting the hydration rate, enzyme release, ion transport, pH, and inhibitor values, which may decrease germination percentage. The aim of this study was to evaluate different types of culture media, composed of other substances, combined with mechanical techniques of tegument removal to determine the most appropriate culture medium for the in vitro germination of Passiflora edulis (Sims flavicarpa Deg.) seeds obtained by open pollination. The experimental design was completely randomized in a 10 × 3 factorial scheme (10 culture media × three types of seed-intact, scarified, and cut), with eight replicates and five seeds per plot. Scarified seeds cultivated in a medium composed of a commercial substrate and gibberellic acid presented a higher percentage of germination than intact or cut seeds cultivated in different concentrations of Murashige & Skoog (MS) medium. Scarification is a satisfactory method for breaking the dormancy of passion fruit seeds, and commercial substrates Bioflora® enriched with gibberellic acid may replace in vitro germination. RESUMO A presença de sais no meio de cultura e a adição de fitohormônios, necessários para quebrar a dormência das sementes na germinação in vitro do maracujá, podem levar o potencial osmótico a níveis críticos. Isso pode alterar a permeabilidade da membrana das sementes, afetando a taxa de hidratação, a liberação de enzimas, o transporte iônico, o pH e os teores de inibidores, o que pode acarretar na diminuição do percentual de germinação. O objetivo desta pesquisa foi avaliar diversos tipos de meios de cultura, compostos por diferentes substâncias, combinados com técnicas mecânicas de remoção do tegumento, para determinar o tratamento mais adequado para a germinação in vitro de sementes de Passiflora edulis (Sims flavicarpa Deg.) obtidas por polinização aberta. O delineamento experimental foi inteiramente casualizado, em esquema fatorial 10 × 3 (10 meios de cultura × três tipos de sementes - intactas, escarificadas e cortadas), com oito repetições e cinco sementes por parcela. Sementes escarificadas cultivadas em meio composto de substrato comercial e ácido giberélico apresentaram taxa de germinação superior às sementes intactas ou cortadas cultivadas em diferentes concentrações de meio Murashige & Skoog (MS). A escarificação é um método satisfatório de quebra de dormência de sementes de maracujá e substratos comerciais Bioflora® enriquecidos com ácido giberélico podem substituir o meio MS na germinação in vitro.

Abstract: Systemic arterial hypertension (SAH) is a major risk factor for several secondary diseases, especially cardiovascular and renal conditions. SAH has a high prevalence worldwide, and its precise and early recognition is important to prevent the development of secondary outcomes. In this field, the study of biomarkers represents an important approach to diagnosing and predicting the disease and its associated conditions. The use of biomarkers in hypertension and hypertension-related disorders, such as ischemic stroke, intracerebral hemorrhage, transient ischemic attack, acute myocardial infarction, angina pectoris and chronic kidney disease, are discussed in this review. Establishing a potential pool of biomarkers may contribute to a non-invasive and improved approach for their diagnosis, prognosis, risk assessment, therapy management and pharmacological responses to a therapeutic intervention to improve patients' quality of life and prevent unfavorable outcomes.

Resumo A busca de cidades em todo o mundo por sua inserção em um mercado competitivo global tem gerado consequências nas formas de planejamento e gestão urbanas, cada vez mais próximas de modelos empresariais e pouco representativas das realidades locais. Localizada no sul do Brasil e fora dos grandes circuitos de capital global, Florianópolis vem acompanhando essa tendência, com agentes públicos e privados apostando em suas características ambientais e em novos arranjos produtivos locais como propulsores de uma nova fase de desenvolvimento urbano atrelado aos modelos internacionais. Este artigo demonstra como os setores do turismo, tecnologia e inovação vêm sendo utilizados para a promoção e consolidação da imagem competitiva da capital catarinense, deixando como resultado lacunas, contradições e desequilíbrios territoriais.

The chemical diversity and complexity of thesematerials, however, present major barriers to realizing this opportunity. In this work, we show that metal-catalyzed autoxidation depolymerizes comingled polymers into a mixture of oxygenated small molecules that are advantaged substrates for biological conversion. We engineer a robust soil bacterium, Pseudomonas putida, to funnel these oxygenated compounds into a single exemplary chemical product, either b-ketoadipate or polyhydroxyalkanoates. Microbially induced sedimentary structures (MISS) are abundant in Ediacaran and lower Cambrian successions. However, the relationship between MISS distribution and facies has not been thoroughly explored in Ediacaran–Cambrian successions in South America. This study documents the occurrence of MISS and other potential biogenic structures from the late Ediacaran Serra de Santa Helena Formation in the Bambuí Group of eastern Brazil. This unit overlies the Cloudina-bearing Sete Lagoas Formation and is a mixed carbonate-siliciclastic succession devoid of macroscopic body fossils. Potential microbial structures include wrinkled structures such as “elephant-skin” and Kinneyia-like textures, as well as pustular structures and abundant positive epirelief discoidal structures. Another putative biogenic structure is a mm-wide meandering groove resembling a simple locomotion trail of a small vagile benthic metazoan. Microbial surface textures (i.e., “elephant skin” and Kinneyia-type wrinkles) were mainly observed in heterolithic deposits, usually at the interface between sandstone and siltstone/shale. On the other hand, discs show a facies-independent distribution, observed in heterolithic as well as carbonate and marl deposits. Petrographic analyses of these discs suggest that they have complex origins and some of them may be diagenetic structures. Thus, while facies may have strongly controlled the preservation of MISS-related structures and textures in the Serra de Santa Helena Formation, their abundance and diversity in tidal flat deposits indicate the wide distribution of matgrounds in these shallow marine paleoenvironments. Also, we demonstrate how detailed description and classification of simple features, such as discoidal structures, is an important task for paleoenvironmental reconstruction of marine ecosystems at the Ediacaran–Cambrian transition when the microbially bounded substrates played important roles in the dynamics of coastal environments.

Soft robots have been receiving unprecedented attention in recent years for being able to be used side-by-side with humans, exploring dangerous environments and confined spaces, moving across uneven terrain, and solving problems that rigid robots cannot solve. The wide range of additive manufacturing techniques has also boosted research in the area. This work summarizes the characteristics of the five most relevant techniques – FDM, DIW, SLS, Inkjet, and SLA – for fabricating soft robots together with case studies. A summary contains models of industrial-sized additive manufacturing machines that can compose a facility for fabricating large-scale soft robots.

Refereed/Peer-reviewed Background: Early career pharmacists and pharmaceutical scientist groups (ECPGs) can make valuable contributions to addressing global health challenges and policy development. There is limited information describing their contribution to this topic. This study describes initiatives and activities related to global health and policy development led by ECPGs. Methods: An online questionnaire was disseminated between July and October 2020 through the International Pharmaceutical Federation Young Pharmacists Group (FIP YPG) mailing list and its social media network. The survey consisted of questions about ECPGs' involvement in global health and policy development activities. In addition to groups or organisations, the FIP YPG also invited individual pharmacists and pharmaceutical scientists to explore their needs and views on the role of the ECPGs, and themselves as individuals in global health. Data were analysed descriptively. Results: Thirty national ECPGs across six regions of the World Health Organisation (WHO) participated in the survey. Most of the initiatives led by ECPGs focused on health and wellbeing, quality of education and partnership. The most common activities were webinars, social events and partnerships with other organisations. In terms of global health challenges listed by the WHO, the most common initiatives led by ECPGs were related to medicines access and medicines safety. There was some involvement of early career pharmacists, pharmaceutical scientists, and ECPGs in the policy and regulation in their countries across various topics. Conclusion: To the best of the authors' knowledge, this is the first global study exploring initiatives conducted by ECPGs. This study informed initiatives that have been implemented across regions, which could be useful for other ECPGs to initiate in their country according to their needs and priorities. Fostering engagement and collaboration between ECPGs is encouraged to provide opportunities and share learning across ECPGs, which could accelerate progress towards tackling global health challenges.

Non-metastatic, castration-resistant prostate cancer (nmCRPC) is an important clinical stage of prostate cancer, prior to morbidity and mortality from clinical metastases. In particular, the introduction of novel androgen-receptor signaling inhibitors (ARSi) has changed the therapeutic landscape in nmCRPC. Given recent developments in this field, we update our recommendations for the management of nmCRPC.A panel of 51 invited medical oncologists and urologists convened in May of 2021 with the aim of discussing and providing recommendations regarding the most relevant issues concerning staging methods, antineoplastic therapy, osteoclast-targeted therapy, and patient follow-up in nmCRPC. Panel members considered the available evidence and their practical experience to address the 73 multiple-choice questions presented.Key recommendations and findings include the reliance on prostate-specific antigen doubling time for treatment decisions, the absence of a clear preference between conventional and novel (i.e., positron-emission tomography-based) imaging techniques, the increasing role of ARSis in various settings, the general view that ARSis have similar efficacy. Panelists highlighted the slight preference for darolutamide, when safety is of greater concern, and a continued need to develop high-level evidence to guide the intensity of follow-up in this subset of prostate cancer.Despite the limitations associated with a consensus panel, the topics addressed are relevant in current practice, and the recommendations can help practicing clinicians to provide state-of-the-art treatment to patients with nmCRPC in Brazil and other countries with similar healthcare settings.

Resumo Objetivou-se identificar as representações sociais de crianças de uma escola pública municipal do Rio de Janeiro acerca do procedimento de coleta sanguínea e discutir as representações sociais emergidas, à luz da atuação da equipe de saúde da família na realização desse procedimento. Utilizou-se o método e a teoria de análise das representações sociais fundamentadas por Moscovisci e Jodelet, numa abordagem qualitativa. Para a coleta de dados, empregou-se a técnica projetiva de cena de produção estética e do discurso do escolar. Os resultados foram agrupados em quatro categorias: 1) dimensões estruturais que envolvem o procedimento de coleta sanguínea; 2) dimensão do componente humano e sua interface no procedimento de coleta sanguínea; 3) a dimensão psicoemocional retratada no procedimento de coleta sanguínea e 4) a coleta de sangue: a importância para a saúde do escolar. No que diz respeito à importância da coleta sanguínea, evidenciamos a percepção de escolares para a importância de ações voltadas à prevenção e promoção da saúde. Abstract The scope of this article was to identify the social representations of children in a municipal public school in Rio de Janeiro, with respect to the blood sampling procedure and to discuss the social representations that emerge, in the light of the performance of the family health team in carrying out this procedure. Moscovisci’s method/theory of analysis of social representations based on a qualitative approach was used. For data collection, the projective technique of the esthetic production scene and the student’s speech was used. The results were grouped into four categories: 1) structural dimensions involved in the blood sampling procedure; 2) dimension of the human component and its interface in the blood sampling procedure; 3) the psycho-emotional dimension portrayed in the blood sampling procedure; and 4) blood sampling: the importance for student health. With respect to the importance of blood sampling, we highlight the perception of students regarding the importance of actions aimed at prevention and health care promotion.

A Atenção Primária à Saúde (APS), definida a partir da Declaração de Alma-Ata, e, identificada mundialmente como uma estratégia de organização dos serviços de saúde, caracteriza-se como o primeiro nível de contato dos indivíduos, da família e da comunidade com o sistema nacional de saúde. Este trabalho constitui um relato de experiência desenvolvido a partir de uma atividade teórico-prática, que se propôs a analisar os atributos e os processos de trabalho da Atenção Primária à Saúde no contexto de uma Unidade de Saúde da Família (USF), no município de Foz do Iguaçu-PR, com o objetivo de relacionar a teoria com a prática, por meio de questionários, elaborados com base na literatura e, aplicado aos profissionais e usuários do sistema de saúde. Ademais, contou com a observação da rotina do processo de trabalho na unidade. A vivência oportunizou a identificação dos desafios e fragilidades referentes aos atributos da APS e dos elementos constituintes do processo de trabalho em saúde. Por fim, conclui-se que, no cotidiano dos serviços, a APS enfrenta muitas dificuldades em se estabelecer como previsto na literatura e, por isso, faz-se premente a participação social para sua efetivação e consagração como primeiro nível de contato com o sistema de saúde.

Para amparar o processo de ensino-aprendizagem, as instituições de ensino devem avaliar cuidadosamente a usabilidade de seus Ambientes Virtuais de Aprendizagem (Learning Management Systems - LMS), antes de entregá-los a professores e alunos. Este artigo apresenta o processo e os resultados das avaliações de usabilidade em atividades de ensino-aprendizagem apoiadas pelos LMS Canvas e Blackboard em uma universidade brasileira. A metodologia considerou testes com usuários para avaliar cinco atributos de usabilidade nos sistemas. Além disso, especialistas em usabilidade realizaram inspeções de usabilidade para analisar problemas e possíveis soluções. Os resultados indicaram que ambas as plataformas apresentam graves problemas de usabilidade. Em termos de comparações entre os dois sistemas LMS, os resultados não mostraram uma disparidade significativa de usabilidade entre eles. Como resultado, também apontamos os principais problemas e soluções dos LMS.

This study sought to assess the panorama of the biodiesel issue in northern Brazil, referring to the physical chemical parameter of oxidative stability. Data were collected between the years 2020 and 2021 in the cities of Manaus and Porto Velho, through routine collections in the tanks of the distribution bases and analyzes carried out in the research and fuel testing laboratory (LAPEC) located at the Federal University of Amazonas (UFAM). The results showed the disparity of the oxidative stability of biodiesel with the current standard, placing it beyond the minimum specification, affecting its mixture with diesel S10, however diesel S500 still remained below the maximum limit determined by the National Petroleum Agency, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP). Thus, investigations carried out on the action of diesel in its mixture with biodiesel, improving its oxidative stability, determined that the sulfur content represents a significant factor for this. Therefore, this work allowed prospecting the panorama of the quality of biodiesel in the northern region of the country, directing critical thinking towards the elucidation of the exposed bottlenecks.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, people around the world have been affected by strict restrictions on movement and social isolation, thus limiting access to physical activity. The objective of this study was to analyze the variations in the level of physical activity related to the time of physical exercise, number of steps and time standing in Apple Watch users. Regardless of gender, a significant reduction in the number of steps during the period of social isolation was observed in eutrophic and overweight subjects. An increase in the percentage of Exercise Days (%/mo) was observed only in the obese in June. In overweight subjects of both genders, they were the ones who presented a greater physical exercise levels per day and per week. The main reduction in Stand (hr/day) occurred in eutrophic men, and the greatest increase in obese women. Based on the results, we conclude that in the same way that the implementation of restrictive measures of social isolation initially provided an increase in sedentary behavior and a reduction in the practice of exercises, with the extension of these measures, new opportunities and alternatives emerged for changing behavior related to physical activity due to the increase in free time and greater concern with health care.

Introduction: Atrial Fibrillation (AF) is not only one of the main causes of stroke, but it is also the most common sustained cardiac arrhythmia. As a result of population aging, an increase in the prevalence of AF and other associated chronic cardiovascular diseases, such as Systemic Arterial Hypertension (SAH) and Diabetes Mellitus (DM), is expected, contributing to a higher incidence of stroke. The magnitude of this fact reflects the reason why stroke is considered the second cause of death in the world, and the first cause of death in Brazil, in addition to being the second cause of cognitive losses. The main causes that favor the occurrence of ischemic stroke determine the situation of risk groups. Such factors can be classified as modifiable, non-modifiable and potential risk group. Objective: The aim of this study was to systematically review the public health literature on the relationship between ischemic stroke and atrial Fibrillation. Methods: Systematized literature review performed by searching the Web of Science database (Clarivates), Science Direct (Scopus), Wiley Online Library (John Wiley and Sons), Taylor and Francis (Taylor & Francis Group) and PubMed (NIH), using the descriptors Relationship between Ischemic Stroke and Atrial Fibrillation and other cardiovascular diseases in primary care, both in English and Portuguese. A total of 3860 articles were found, of which 64 were selected for the review by six evaluators independently. The articles surveyed are from the period 2015 to 2022. Results: In addition to the epidemiological magnitude, AF is important for its clinical consequences, including thromboembolic occurrences, with an increase, on average, of 4 times the probability of a stroke, in addition to being correlated with the high risk of all-cause mortality and other circumstantial determinants, such as heart failure. Conclusion: The analyzed studies demonstrated that there may be an adjusted incidence of ischemic stroke associated with AF and other cardiovascular diseases by stroke age, being age dependent in men. Social factors may contribute to the late discovery of the association between stroke, AF and other cardiovascular diseases.

This article presents a theoretical and numerical study of bolted sleeve connections with rectangular hollow sections (RHS) under axial tension and compression. The geometric form of a hollow section provides resistance for high axial loads, torsion and combines effects, spreading its utilization in truss systems. In this context, the sleeve connections proposed explore these characteristics of RHS and offer an attractive aesthetic appearance for the continuity of elements. The bolted sleeve connection with RHS is formed by two outer tubes connected by an inner tube and staggered bolts. Herein, a parametric study was developed for identification of the failure modes in the connection. Finite element models with different geometric parameters and number of bolts were created in commercial software. The width, depth and thickness of RHS tubes and diameter of bolts were variated. In the theoretical/numerical/parametric results, the yielding gross section failure, the fracture through the effective net area failure and the bearing failure were observed. These failure modes occurred in both outer and inner tubes. The load results were compared to determine the resistance capacity of sleeve connections. The theoretical formulations were evaluated for representation of the ultimate load of the failure modes.

Transfer pricing (TP) is based on many principles – the essential one is the Arm´s Length Principle (ALP). In this respect, the term “associated persons” is of crucial importance: associated persons must be involved in transactions in order for the ALP to be applied. The aim of the paper is to contribute to existing comparative analysis of TP rules – specifically, to provide a critical analysis of the term “associated persons” as prescribed by domestic law in Brazil, the Czech Republic, and Latvia. The key goals of the research conducted were to provide a comprehensive picture of the variety of definitions, to indicate relationships between international law and domestic law, and last, but not least, to highlight various concepts of the term “associated persons” and to identify problematic aspects connected with the interpretation of the definitions and the applications of the related rules. The study, which is based on qualitative research, is exploratory and interpretative in its nature. Its results present a background for further research and point to the fragmentation of law on TP with respect to the investigated issue. On the basis of the results of the comparative study one can conclude significant differences among, and fragmentation in, the definitions of the term “associated persons” both in respect of the number of categories established and in respect of the absence of the autonomy of the definitions of the term “associated persons” as provided by public law (especially by income tax acts). At the same time one can conclude the same position regarding the application of double tax treaties in all the countries for which the study was carried out.

Ischemic stroke corresponds to 80% of cases in Brazil, which demonstrates the epidemiological importance in Brazil. The magnitude of this fact reflects the reason why stroke is considered the second cause of death in the world, and the first cause of death in Brazil, in addition to being the second cause of cognitive losses. The main causes that favor the occurrence of ischemic stroke determine the situation of risk groups. Such factors can be classified as modifiable, non-modifiable and potential risk group.

Objective: Both the United Nations and the World Health Organization have identified antimicrobial resistance as a significant threat to global health. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention identified five pediatric respiratory conditions as requiring particular scrutiny in terms of antibiotic stewardship. This study sought to identify strategies used by experienced naturopathic practitioners to treat acute respiratory infections in children. The authors theorize that naturopathic strategies safely fill the gap between watchful waiting and antibiotic prescription, thus reducing the use of antibiotics. Methods: Naturopathic practitioners in Canada, the United States, and Australia with a minimum of 5 years of experience in clinical naturopathic care of children were recruited for a modified Delphi study. A 14-person panel of practitioners was selected to complete a series of four iterative surveys assessing agreement to statements in five domains of knowledge/attitudes, assessment/diagnosis, management, monitoring, and education. Items were deemed to have reached consensus if they reached a predetermined threshold of 70% agreement, or failed to reach a threshold of 40% agreement. Items between these boundaries were modified and retested until either consensus was reached or the four surveys had been completed. Results: Results yielded a large degree of agreement on core naturopathic approaches to the management of acute pediatric respiratory infections, especially lifestyle strategies, including adequate rest and dietary recommendations. The use of vitamins C and D was strongly supported, as were herbs, particularly echinacea and elderberry. Some hydrotherapy and topical applications specific to the individual focus on infection also reached consensus. Results suggested that most respondents, even if they have the authority to prescribe antibiotics, rarely deem it necessary to do so. Conclusion: Findings of this study provide (1) clarity on the role of naturopathic doctors in the management of pediatric health concerns and the stewardship of antibiotics; and (2) initial guidance to less experienced naturopathic practitioners. The findings also identify key priorities for research into the safety and effectiveness of naturopathic interventions to reduce the unnecessary prescribing of antibiotics. Refereed/Peer-reviewed

Objetivou-se analisar o processo ensino-aprendizagem na disciplina de semiologia e semiotécnica de enfermagem. Estudo de corte transversal, com participação de 110 discentes do curso de enfermagem de uma universidade pública do centro-sul do Ceará, Brasil. Os dados foram obtidos por meio de um questionário eletrônico, organizado no Google Forms®, agrupados em planilha do Microsoft Excel® e analisados quanto a estatística descritiva e inferencial. Os discentes que debatiam ou eram proativos apresentaram médias na disciplina maiores do que aqueles que nunca o faziam. Esses reconheceram a relevância da disciplina na formação intelectual e sua essencialidade para a prática profissional, todavia atribuem um grau de dificuldade de médio a alto a disciplina. O processo ensino-aprendizagem na disciplina de semiologia e semiotécnica de enfermagem exige múltipla combinação de métodos pedagógicos que promovam o desenvolvimento de competências para atuação futura do enfermeiro, contemplando aprendizagem significativa e uso de metodologias ativas.

O parkinsonismo é um distúrbio do sistema nervoso de maior incidência masculina do que feminina, visto que, por mecanismos fisiológicos, o estrogênio possui efeitos neuroprotetores, com funções como aumento da dopamina, um neurotransmissor essencial para o controle das funções motoras. Além disso, previne a formação dos corpúsculos de Lewy e da agregação da α-sinucleína, responsáveis pela progressão da Doença de Parkinson. Por isso, a doença se apresenta diferentemente nas mulheres. A remoção cirúrgica de ambos os ovários em mulheres na pré-menopausa para a prevenção do câncer de ovário parece favorecer o surgimento da doença, tendo em vista a perda da produção do hormônio protetor. Assim, o objetivo do estudo é analisar a associação entre a ooforectomia bilateral precoce e o desenvolvimento de parkinsonismo e Doença de Parkinson em mulheres na pré-menopausa. Trata-se de uma revisão bibliográfica sistemática, do tipo quantitativa, que utilizou as plataformas do PubMed, SciELO e Cochrane Library como bases de dados para seleção dos artigos, todos na língua inglesa. Foram utilizadas literaturas publicadas com recorte temporal de 2017 a 2022. De acordo com as literaturas analisadas, a ooforectomia bilateral precoce em mulheres na pré-menopausa aumenta o risco do desenvolvimento de parkinsonismo. Desse modo, a diminuição dos procedimentos cirúrgicos profiláticos para câncer de ovário nas pacientes com risco médio de malignidade reduziria o risco dessa condição.

Este estudo trata-se de uma revisão integrativa acerca da produção científica disponível sobre a temática da assistência à população LGBTQIA+ no contexto APS. Questões norteadoras: Que evidências existem na literatura científica sobre a assistência de pessoas LGBTQIA +? Quais fatores favorecem e dificultam o acesso de pessoas LGBTQIA+ ao Sistema Único de Saúde? Objetivo: Caracterizar a produção científica no período de 2011 a 2019, acerca da assistência em saúde a pessoas LGBTQIA+, na temática Gênero e Sexualidade. E, discutir as implicações dos principais resultados evidenciados na produção científica à luz da Política Nacional de Saúde Integral de Lésbicas, Gays, Bissexuais, Travestis e Transexuais e dos Princípios do SUS. Método: Foi realizada uma revisão bibliográfica nas bases de dados “Lilacs”, “Medline” e “BDENF”, utilizando os descritores: “Gênero”, “Sexualidade” e “Sistema Único de Saúde”, os quais foram cruzados entre si. Foi utilizado a análise temática de Bardin para compor os resultados. Os resultados da amostra final foram composta por um total de quinze estudos. Onde fica evidente a relutância da população LGBTQIA+ a buscar atendimento em saúde. Concluiu-se que as entidades de ensino e governamentais têm papel fundamental na diminuição da evasão da população LGBTQIA+ no SUS.

Termo clínico, a disfonia envolve a todas as transformações e dificuldades durante a emissão vocal, as quais resultam no impedimento da produção normal da voz. Pacientes como esse problema, podem apresentar desequilíbrio da musculatura crâniocervical e laríngea e lesão orgânica subjacente. A disfonia resulta em modificações fonatórias, limitando atividades diárias relacionadas ao uso da voz, impactando na vida social e na qualidade de vida do indivíduo. Este estudo teve como objetivo analisar alterações musculares e esqueléticas cervicais em mulheres com disfonia, conforme identificado na literatura científica sobre o tema. Para isso, realizou-se uma revisão integrativa de literatura, selecionando estudos nas bases de dados Literatura Latino-americana e do Caribe em Ciências da Saúde (Lilacs) e Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online (Medline). A partir da análise qualitativa dos resultados, concluiu-se que dor intensa na região posterior do pescoço e na laringe se manifestam em mulheres disfônicas. Contribuem para isso a função prejudicada da articulação cervical e alterações da amplitude de movimento cervical. Com isso, compreende-se que o abuso vocal e o mau uso da voz como fatores mais comuns para a disfonia.

O bem-estar animal vem ganhando destaque no cenário mundial nos últimos anos. Tal destaque coloca em evidência a necessidade de adequação dos sistemas de produção. O termo bem-estar animal é um conceito crescente na conjuntura global e sofreu importantes transformações em sua definição, avaliação e interpretação no último século. A ciência do bem-estar animal reconhece a importância das cinco liberdades como forma de conceituar o bem-estar e a necessidade de uma releitura na forma de avaliar e interpretar o status de bem-estar, sobretudo, dos animais de produção. A releitura culminou com o desenvolvimento do modelo dos Cinco Domínios. Um modelo projetado para avaliar o bem-estar animal de uma forma mais completa, sistemática e abrangente. O modelo conta com quatro domínios físicos e funcionais, avaliados pela definição de indicadores. As avaliações possibilitaram a incorporação de muitos protocolos para análise de bem-estar, voltados aos sistemas de produção animal. O estado geral do bem-estar animal reflete seu status, que pode ser definido como uma balança, sendo positivo, neutro ou negativo. O objetivo desta revisão bibliográfica é evidenciar a evolução da ciência do bem-estar animal considerando os cinco domínios como os principais critérios a serem utilizados para definir o status do Bem-estar dos animais de produção.
