Feature selection is an important part of data preprocessing. Feature selection algorithms that use mutual information as evaluation can effectively handle different types of data, so it has been widely used. However, the potential relationship between relevance and redundancy in the evaluation criteria is often ignored, so that effective feature subsets cannot be selected. Optimize the evaluation criteria of the mutual information feature selection algorithm and propose a mutual information feature selection algorithm based on dynamic penalty factors (Dynamic Penalty Factor Mutual Information Feature Selection Algorithm, DPMFS). The penalty factor is dynamically calculated with different selected features, so as to achieve a relative balance between relevance and redundancy, and effectively play the synergy between relevance and redundancy, and select a suitable feature subset. Experimental results verify that the DPMFS algorithm can effectively improve the classification accuracy of the feature selection algorithm. Compared with the traditional chi-square, MIM and MIFS feature selection algorithms, the average classification accuracy of the random forest classifier for the six standard datasets is increased by 3.73%, 3.51% and 2.44%, respectively. &nbsp

BACKGROUND: The persistence of symptoms in patients with chronic neck pain is considered to be associated with variation in the neck muscle structure and associated neuromuscular control. Sling exercise therapy (SET) has been demonstrated to relieve the symptoms of chronic neck pain, whereas it is controversial whether this benefit is correlated to altered neck muscle structure and associated neuromuscular control in the patients. OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effect of SET on cervical muscle structure (thickness) and associated neuromuscular control in patients with chronic neck pain. METHODS: Twenty-five patients with chronic neck pain were randomly assigned to the SET group (n= 12) or the control group (n= 13). The SET group received the SET intervention for 4 weeks, while the control group maintained normal activities of daily living. At baseline and after 4 weeks of intervention, Visual analogue scale and neck disability index were measured in both groups, and changes in the thickness of the superficial cervical muscles were assessed using musculoskeletal ultrasound. Surface electromyography (EMG) was adapted to assess the neuromuscular control of the neck while the participant was performing the cranio-cervical flexion test. RESULTS: At 4 weeks, the SET group had a significant reduction of RMS in both UT and SCM of EMG compared to the control group (p< 0.05). Regarding ultrasound, the SET group had significantly lower muscle thickness compared to the control group in both the rest position and the MVIC position (p< 0.05). There were no within-group differences in the control group (p> 0.05), while the SET group showed significant reductions in both RMS and muscle thickness (p< 0.05). CONCLUSION: 4-week SET was effective in reducing pain and dysfunction in patients with chronic neck pain, which may be related to improved neck muscle thickness and neuromuscular control of the neck.

In recent years, research on nanoparticles (NPs) has brought a new phase in the development of medicine. The term “NPs” refers to nanoscale particles, typically between 10 and 1,000 nm in size, that are within the range of cellular and molecular structures. Compared with traditional ophthalmic drugs, NPs can carry drugs to overcome obstacles, target drug delivery, prolong drug release, reduce drug toxicity, and can be used in gene therapy. After a brief introduction to the classification of NPs, we will focus on the potential applications of different NPs in the diagnosis and treatment of different retinal diseases and introduce innovative methods derived from NPs.

BACKGROUND: Transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) has a considerable advantage in the rehabilitation treatment of dysphagia. OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to explore the effect of tDCS combined with respiratory training on dysphagia in post-stroke patients. METHODS: From December 2017 to January 2019, 64 post-stroke patients who were hospitalized in the Department of Neurology of the Second Hospital of Hebei Medical University were enrolled in this study. They were randomly divided into control and treatment groups (n= 32). Patients in the two groups received routine swallowing rehabilitation training and respiratory training. On this basis, the patients in the treatment group received tDCS. The anode was placed in the movement area of the pharyngeal cortex on the unaffected side of the patients’ bodies, and the cathode was placed in the upper orbital orbit on the opposite side. The current intensity was 1.5 mA, 20 min/time, 1 time/d, and 6 d/w. Before and after the treatment, the water swallow text, functional oral intake scale (FOIS), forced vital capacity (FVC) and peak expiratory flow (PEF) were assessed, and the correlation among them was evaluated. RESULTS: There were no differences in all indexes before and after treatment. After treatment, water swallow text, FOIS, FVC and PEF were all better than before treatment, and the clinical efficacy in the treatment group was significantly better than that in the control group. FVC and PEF were positively correlated with water swallow text and FOIS. CONCLUSION: tDCS combined with respiratory training may have a significant therapeutic effect on dysphagia in post-stroke patients.

Background: RBPs (RNA-binding proteins) perform indispensable functions in the post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression. Numerous RBPs have been implicated in cardiac development or physiology based on gene knockout studies and the identification of pathogenic RBP gene mutations in monogenic heart disorders. The discovery and characterization of additional RBPs performing indispensable functions in the heart will advance basic and translational cardiovascular research. Methods: We performed a differential expression screen in zebrafish embryos to identify genes enriched in nkx2.5 -positive cardiomyocytes or cardiopharyngeal progenitors compared to nkx2.5 -negative cells from the same embryos. We investigated the myocardial-enriched gene RNA-binding protein with multiple splicing (variants) 2 [ RBPMS2 )] by generating and characterizing rbpms2 knockout zebrafish and human cardiomyocytes derived from RBPMS2 -deficient induced pluripotent stem cells. Results: We identified 1848 genes enriched in the nkx2.5 -positive population. Among the most highly enriched genes, most with well-established functions in the heart, we discovered the ohnologs rbpms2a and rbpms2b , which encode an evolutionarily conserved RBP. Rbpms2 localizes selectively to cardiomyocytes during zebrafish heart development and strong cardiomyocyte expression persists into adulthood. Rbpms2-deficient embryos suffer from early cardiac dysfunction characterized by reduced ejection fraction. The functional deficit is accompanied by myofibril disarray, altered calcium handling, and differential alternative splicing events in mutant cardiomyocytes. These phenotypes are also observed in RBPMS2-deficient human cardiomyocytes, indicative of conserved molecular and cellular function. RNA-sequencing and comparative analysis of genes mis-spliced in RBPMS2-deficient zebrafish and human cardiomyocytes uncovered a conserved network of 29 ortholog pairs that require RBPMS2 for alternative splicing regulation, including RBFOX2, SLC8A1 , and MYBPC3 . Conclusions: Our study identifies RBPMS2 as a conserved regulator of alternative splicing, myofibrillar organization, and calcium handling in zebrafish and human cardiomyocytes.

Scleras are mainly used for the treatment of glaucoma, eyelid damage, and scleral ulcers. Given that the sclera and cornea collectively constitute the complete external structure of the eyeball and both have the same tissue and cell origin, we attempted to identify scleral materials to treat lamellar and penetrating corneal injuries. Based on research in our center, antigenic components in decellularized porcine sclera (DPS) were removed using a simplified decellularization method, leaving the collagen structure and active components undamaged. DPS preserved the mechanical properties and did not significantly inhibit the proliferation and replication of human corneal epithelial cells. In vivo, the graft epithelium healed well after lamellar and penetrating scleral grafting, and the graft thickness did not change evidently. DPS can resist suture traction during scleral transplantation and maintain anterior chamber stability until day 28 post-operatively, especially in penetrating repairs. No obvious immune rejection of lamellar or penetrating scleral grafts was found 28 days after DPS transplantation. This study shows that DPS could be used as an alternative material for the emergency repair of corneal perforations and lamellar injuries, representing another application of sclera.

Intestinal transplantation from deceased donors is the established procedure for patients with irreversible intestinal failure. However, a living-donor intestinal transplant has not been routinely performed yet because of undefined surgical risks to the donor. In this report, we reviewed our experience with living-donor ileal resection from May 1999 to December 2021. A total of 40 living-donor ileal resections were performed for 40 intestinal transplant recipients. Clinical data were prospectively collected and analyzed for postoperative complications after ileal procurement. None of the donors experienced life-threatening complications or mortality. Six (15%) of 40 donors experienced minor operative complications. Transit intestinal graft inadequacy including weight loss, diarrhea, and vitamin B12 deficiency was common early following surgery, but was manageable and disappeared in most cases within a year. All donors had significant reductions in total plasma cholesterol and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol concentrations after donation as compared with the baseline levels. With an average follow-up of 67.8 months, bilateral kidney stones occurred in one donor and gallstones in the other. All the donors have regained their normal capacity for work. Living-donor ileal resection is associated with minimal short- and long-term morbidity and remains an attractive alternative for potential recipients when suitable deceased donors are unavailable.

The optimal surgical intervention for Stanford type A aortic dissection is controversial. The aim of this trial sequential meta-analysis was to investigate the comparative effectiveness and safety of open triple-branched stent graft and stent elephant trunk implantation for total aortic arch reconstruction in Sandford type A aortic dissection.PubMed, Embase, Cochrane library, Chinese Biomedical Literature database (CBM), and China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) were searched for retrieving relevant studies from inception to February 28, 2022. We evaluated 30-day mortality, procedure-related time including cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB), aortic cross-clamp (ACC), and selective cerebral perfusion (SCP), the incidence of postoperative complications including paralysis, cerebral embolism, and acute renal failure, intensive care unit (ICU) time, and medical expenditure. Statistical analysis was performed by RevMan 5.4 and trial sequential analysis (TSA) software.Six studies involving 260 dissection cases were included eventually. Total aortic arch reconstruction with open triple-branched stent graft was comparable to the stented elephant trunk implantation in 30-day mortality, incidence of postoperative complications, ICU time, and medical expenditure, but open triple-branched stent graft was related to shorter procedure-related time including CPB (mean difference [MD] = -46.11, 95% confidence interval [CI] = -67.24 to -24.98, p .001), ACC (MD = -42.82, 95% CI = -66.74 to -18.90, p .001), and SCP (MD = -17.88, 95% CI = -33.36 to -2.39, p = .02). TSA confirmed robustness of findings.Our analysis suggested that total aortic arch reconstruction with open triple-branched stent graft may be an effective and simplified procedure than the stented elephant trunk implantation.

Solid waste oil shale semi-coke (SC) is considered as a potential material for the preparation of adsorbents due to its rich organic and inorganic components. However, the dense structure and the complex form of the components present make it unsatisfactory for adsorption. In this study, using Alkali corrosion under hydrothermal condition, SC was prepared as an adsorbent material PSSC with excellent adsorption performance for both anionic and cationic dyes. Objective: Oblique lateral lumbar interbody fusion (OLIF) surgery has been increasingly proposed a preferred minimally invasive approach for lumbar degenerative pathology. We aimed to report cases with vertebrae coronal fracture (VCF) following OLIF combined with anterolateral single-rod screw fixation (OLIF-AF). Methods: A retrospective review was performed on all patients who underwent minimally invasive OLIF-AF surgery between October, 2017 and February, 2021. Patients with VCF were selected for further analysis. RESULTS: Two patients (0.37%) out of 534 total patients (707 levels) were identified with VCF following OLIF-AF. Both patients presented with severe back pain and radiating to bilateral legs within 10 days after surgery. Both patients were osteoporosis and had improper lumbar motion at early stage postoperative. Managed with conservative treatment, the VCF healed and successful interbody fusion were achieved in both patients. CONCLUSIONS: VCF following OLIF-AF surgery is a rare but anguished complication. The contributing factor may include osteoporosis, overweight and premature improper lumbar motion. Based on these fracture reports, we caution surgeons should repeatedly advise patients to limit lumbar movement at early stage postoperative, especially for osteoporosis patients.

To explore the characteristics of spontaneous facet joint fusion (SFJF) in patients after oblique lateral lumbar interbody fusion combined with lateral single screw-rod fixation (OLIF-LSRF).We randomly selected 300 patients from 723 patients treated with OLIF-LSRF into a cross-sectional study based on the pilot study results. A novel fusion classification system was designed to evaluate the fusion status of the facet joints at three time points. Ultimately, the prevalence, characteristics, and significance of SFJF were analyzed.A total of 265 (333 levels) qualified cases were included in our study. The novel classification for SFJF has excellent reliability (kappa 0.75). The rate of SFJF was 15.20% (45/296 levels) at 3 months postoperatively, 31.34% (89/284 levels) at 6 months postoperatively, and 33.63% (112/333 levels) at the last follow-up. The circumferential fusion rate was 31.53% (105/333 levels) at the last follow-up. The location of SFJF was mostly on the right facet joint (P 0.001), and the rate of SFJF increased significantly from 3 to 6 months after the operation (P 0.001). The average age of patients with SFJF was older than that of patients without SFJF (P 0.001). There was no significant difference in Visual Analog Scale or Oswestry Disability Index scores between patients with and without SFJF.In the OLIF-LSRF procedure, SFJF occurs mostly at 3-6 months postoperatively, especially in elderly patients and at the right facet joint. OLIF-LSRF has the potential for circumferential fusion.

Acyrthosiphon pisum Harris is the most destructive pest worldwide because of its ability to feed on plants directly and transmit plant viruses as a vector. This study aims to identify triterpenoid saponins from Oxytropis hirta Bunge as biopesticides to control aphids.Three new azukisapogenol triterpenoid saponins (1-3), a new pinoresinol lignan glycoside (8), and four known saponins (4-7) were identified from the root of O. hirta. Compounds 4-7 displayed significant aphicidal activities against A. pisum with oral toxicities (LCAzukisapogenol triterpenoid saponins from O. hirta could be used as biopesticides to control aphids for their multiple efficacies, including oral toxicity, deterrent activity, and reproduction inhibitory activity. The toxic symptoms involved insect body-color changes. Midgut tissues and their related enzymes were the targets for saponins showing aphicidal activities. © 2022 Society of Chemical Industry.
