ObjectiveWe designed a diagnostic test to evaluate the effectiveness and accuracy of a multidimensional voiceprint feature diagnostic assessment (MVFDA) system vs. the 24-item Hamilton Rating Scale for Depression (HAMD-24) for adjunctive diagnosis of children and adolescents with major depressive disorder (MDD).MethodsThis study included 55 children aged 6–16 years who were clinically diagnosed with MDD according to the DSM-5 and analyzed by professional physicians, and 55 healthy children (typically developing). Each subject completed a voice recording and was scored on the HAMD-24 scale by a trained rater. We calculated the validity indices, including sensitivity, specificity, Youden's index, likelihood ratio, and other indices including predictive value, diagnostic odds ratio, diagnostic accuracy, and area under the curve (AUC), to assess the effectiveness of the MVFDA system in addition to the HAMD-24.ResultsThe sensitivity (92.73 vs. 76.36%) and the specificity (90.91 vs. 85.45%) of the MVFDA system are significantly higher than those of the HAMD-24. The AUC of the MVFDA system is also higher than that of the HAMD-24. There is a statistically significant difference between the groups (p < 0.05), and both of them have high diagnostic accuracy. In addition, the diagnostic efficacy of the MVFDA system is higher than that of HAMD-24 in terms of the Youden index, diagnostic accuracy, likelihood ratio, diagnostic odds ratio, and predictive value.ConclusionThe MVFDA has performed well in clinical diagnostic trials for the identification of MDD in children and adolescents by capturing objective sound features. Compared with the scale assessment method, the MVFDA system could be further promoted in clinical practice due to its advantages of simple operation, objective rating, and high diagnostic efficiency.

This paper shows that masked autoencoder with extrapolator (ExtraMAE) is a scalable self-supervised model for time series generation. ExtraMAE randomly masks some patches of the original time series and learns temporal dynamics by recovering the masked patches. Our approach has two core designs. First, ExtraMAE is self-supervised. Supervision allows ExtraMAE to effectively and efficiently capture the temporal dynamics of the original time series. Second, ExtraMAE proposes an extrapolator to disentangle two jobs of the decoder: recovering latent representations and mapping them back into the feature space. These unique designs enable ExtraMAE to consistently and significantly outperform state-of-the-art (SoTA) benchmarks in time series generation. The lightweight architecture also makes ExtraMAE fast and scalable. ExtraMAE shows outstanding behavior in various downstream tasks such as time series classification, prediction, and imputation. As a self-supervised generative model, ExtraMAE allows explicit management of the synthetic data. We hope this paper will usher in a new era of time series generation with self-supervised models.

Plant innate immunity toward cell-wall penetrating filamentous pathogens relies on the conserved SYP12 clade of secretory syntaxins. In Arabidopsis, the two closely related SYP12 clade members, PEN1 and SYP122, play an overlapping role in this general immunity, which can be complemented by two SYP12 clade members from Marchantia (MpSYP12A and MpSYP12B). However, in addition to the conserved SYP12 clade function, PEN1 alone mediates pre-invasive immunity toward powdery mildew fungi, which likely reflects a specialization of its functionality. Here, we show that the PEN1-specific specialization in immunity correlates with a continuous BFA-sensitive recycling and the ability to accumulate strongly at the growing cell plate. This contrasts with the behavior of SYP122, MpSYP12A, and MpSYP12B, all being more stable at the plasma membrane. We suggest that the highly mobile SYP12 specialization observed for PEN1 is required for a fast pre-invasive immune response to resist attack from powdery mildew fungi.

A novel bidirectional transformerless photovoltaic (PV) inverter based on the high-frequency leg (HFL) technique is proposed which can work on discontinuous current mode/continuous current mode having greatly enhanced reliability. With the high-frequency leg, the smooth ac current is achieved as the higher equivalent switching frequency can reduce the inductor current ripple decreasing the passive components' volume. There is no dead time issue which can push the duty cycle to the theoretical limit and fully transfer the energy to grid through total pulse width modulation. And the capacity of the PV inverter can be expanded easily by increasing the number of high-frequency legs. Additionally, the proposed topology can work under the rectifier mode having the bidirectional power capability, which is attractive for the PV application. In the end, the experimental results of 8-kW laboratory prototype have verified the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed transformerless PV inverter under standalone mode.
