Objective: To examine changes in physical activity, sleep, pain, and mood in people with knee osteoarthritis during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic by leveraging an ongoing randomized clinical trial. Methods: Participants enrolled in a 12-month parallel two-arm randomized clinical trial (NCT03064139) interrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic wore an activity monitor (Fitbit Charge 3) and filled out custom weekly surveys rating knee pain, mood, and sleep as part of the study. Data from 30 weeks of the parent study were used for this analysis. Daily step count and sleep duration were extracted from activity monitor data, and participants self-reported knee pain, positive mood, and negative mood via surveys. Metrics were averaged within each participant and then across all participants for prepandemic, stay-at-home, and reopening periods, reflecting the phased reopening in the state of Massachusetts. Results: Data from 28 participants showed small changes with inconclusive clinical significance during the stay-at-home and reopening periods compared with prepandemic for all outcomes. Summary statistics suggested substantial variability across participants with some participants showing persistent declines in physical activity during the observation period. Conclusion: Effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on physical activity, sleep, pain, and mood were variable across individuals with osteoarthritis. Specific reasons for this variability could not be determined. Identifying factors that could affect individuals with knee osteoarthritis who may exhibit reduced physical activity and/or worse symptoms during major lifestyle changes (such as the ongoing pandemic) is important for providing targeted health-care services and management advice toward those that could benefit from it the most.

We study an economy with a time-varying distribution of production to examine the role of debt in amplifying and propagating recessions. In our model, entrepreneurs use risky, long-term debt to finance capital. Liquid assets serve as collateral and transaction costs make debt illiquid. Debt payments increase the volatility of earnings relative to output, deterring entrepreneurs with insufficient collateral from financing efficient levels of capital. This results in a misallocation of resources. In a large recession, productive entrepreneurs with high levels of debt deleverage, amplifying the downturn. The model economy exhibits asymmetries over the business cycle. Recessions involve a rapid deterioration of economic activity, while expansions are more gradual. When a recession coincides with a rise in leverage resulting from a fall in assets, fewer producers operate at efficient levels. When the aggregate business leverage is ten percentage points above average, the half-life of the recovery doubles., Nous étudions une économie où la distribution de la production varie dans le temps pour examiner le rôle de la dette dans l’amplification et la propagation des récessions. Rosa rugosa Thunb., is as a medicinal plant known for anti‐diabetic, and anti‐inflammatory activities. However, the specific active compounds responsible for the individual pharmacological effects of in R. rugosa extract (95% EtOH) remain unknown. Here, we hypothesized that terpenoid structure, the most abundant constituents in R. rugosa extract, are responsible for its anti‐inflammatory activity. We investigated the phytochemical substituents (compounds 1–13) and newly purified 11‐methoxy polisin A, and 13‐methoxy bisaborosaol F using NMR and ESI‐MS and to screened their effects on NO production in LPS‐induced macrophages. Rugosic acid A (RA) induced to ameliorate NO production, iNOS, and pro‐inflammatory cytokines associated with the NF‐κB. And, RA suppressed IL‐6 secretion and IL‐6‐mediated STAT3 activation in LPS‐mediated inflammation. In addition, RA was evaluated in LPS‐mediated acute lung injury (ALI) model similar to acute pneumonia. Our results suggested that RA was suppressed to translocate nuclear NF‐κB and IL‐6‐mediated STAT3 activation. Finally, RA led to amelioration of ALI by decreasing myeloperoxidase (MPO) and inhibiting phosphorylation of NF‐κB and STAT3. Our group originally found that R. rugosa extract had new methoxy compounds and RA may be alternative natural agent for acute pneumonia similar to severe acute respiratory syndrome by coronavirus.

Purpose To evaluate the response rates, toxicitiesy, and survival rates, to vinorelbine (Navelbine(R)), cisplatin and ifosfamide combination chemotherapy, of the patients with inoperable NSCLC (stage III and IV), who received vinorelbine (Navelbine(R)), cisplatin, ifosfamide combinationthe mentioned chemotherapy every 4 weeks. Materials and methods This study included 26 patients with inoperable NSCLC (stage III and IV), who attended St. Vincent's Hospital Bbetween April 1999 and December 2001, 26 patients were included at St.Vincent's Hospital. The chemotherapy regimen consisted of vinorelbine (25 mg/m2 on days 1 and 8), ifosfamide (1,500 mg/m2 on days 1- and 2 with mesna), and cisplatin (30 mg/m2 on days 1- to 3). The cycles were administered every 4 weeks. A 25% reduction in the doses reduction was applied into subsequent courses if there werewas grade 3~4 neutropenia. Results The median age was 63 (range, 44~73) years and the male : to female ratio was 19 : 7. One patient had stage IIIa, 6 had stage IIIb and 19 had stage IV. Twenty two patients had an ECOG performance status of 0 or 1, andwith 4 hadhave one of 2. Eighteen of the patients had adenocarcinoma, 7 had squamous cell carcinomas, and 1 had an undifferentiated NSCLC. Two patients were innot able to be evaluatedble due to follow-up loss. Among Of the 24 patients able to be evaluatedble patients, 1 patient had a complete response and 9 patients hada partial responses, and thewith an overall response rate wasof 41.7%. During a total of 104 cycles, grade 3 neutropenia occurred in 29%, grade 4 neutropenia in 12%, grade 3~4 thrombocytopenia in 4%, grade 3 anemia in 11%, and grade 3~4 mucositis in 2%. The mean time to progression was 6.4 months (range 1~13) and the median overall survival was 10 months (range 1.5~32). Conclusion The combination of vinorelbine, ifosfamide and cisplatin, in the dose and schedule employed in this study, shows an response rate of 41.7%, but, because grade 3- or 4 neutropenia occurred in 41%, a careful investigation is needed.

One of the most stimulating issues in East Asian art history is the influence and reception of art and culture. My dissertation presents a case study of ceramic production and consumption between 1400-1800, in which Korea is a source for new art, and Japan is not only a recipient but an active transformer and innovator. The dissertation focuses on the following three themes: 1) ceramic production in Korea ca. 1400-1600, especially the unique buncheong ware; 2) the reception and consumption in Japan of buncheong and other non-porcelain ceramics produced in Korea ca. 1500-1700, some of which were made specifically for Japanese consumers; 3) the production of Korean-inspired stoneware in Japan, particularly in northern Kyushu, ca. 1600-1800.

The worldwide seroprevalence of hepatitis A virus (HAV) and hepatitis B virus (HBV) has changed over the last two decades, indicating a declining incidence of HAV and HBV infections. Therefore, vaccinations against HAV and HBV are recommended for unimmunized people before traveling to an endemic area. Unfortunately, primary antibody deficiency (PAD) patients can only obtain humoral immunity through intravenous immunoglobulin G (IVIG) replacement and not from vaccination because of a defect in antibody production. However, few studies have analyzed the titers of antibodies against HAV or HBV in IVIG products. In this study, the titers of anti-HAV and anti-HBs antibodies were measured in nineteen lots of IVIG products from five manufacturers from three countries (A, B from Korea; C, D from Japan; and E from the USA), and trough titers in plasma were estimated. Concentrations of anti-HAV antibody ranged from 1,888–8,927 mIU/mL and estimated trough titers exceeded the minimal protective value in all evaluated IVIG products. Concentrations of anti-HBs antibody ranged from 438–965 mIU/mL in products A and B and were 157, 123, and 1,945 mIU/mL in products C, D, and E, respectively. Estimated trough titers in products A, B, and E exceeded the minimal protective value but those in products C and D did not reach this threshold. These data demonstrated that available IVIG products generally provide sufficient antibodies against HAV and HBV to protect patients with PAD, although the trough concentrations of anti-HBs antibody in two IVIG products did not reach the minimum protective value., Graphical Abstract

Objective To evaluate the inter-rater and intra-rater reliability of ultrasonographic measurements of axillary recess (AR) thickness in healthy individuals, and to analyze the factors affecting the thickness of the AR capsule. Methods We recruited 20 healthy individuals (10 male, 10 female) with a mean age of 37 years (standard deviation ±10). Two physiatrists (an experienced and a novice rater) independently investigated the AR thickness in three rounds. The AR thickness was measured for each individual at three shoulder abduction angles (50°, 70°, and 90°). Intra-class correlation (ICC) coefficients were used to assess the reproducibility of each measurement. Results Excellent intra-rater reliability coefficients were observed at the three shoulder abduction angles, in the analysis of both raters. The primary purpose of this research project was to explain how Korean immigrants develop acculturation attitudes toward Korean and American culture and how these attitudes are related to their experiences within their community in America. In order to achieve this goal, this project consisted of two empirical studies. In Study 1, the model of community capacity and acculturation was tested using structural equation modeling and the model fit the data very well. The results of the hypotheses tests in Study 1 were as follows: Sense of Community, Community Provisions, and Community Engagement were positively correlated with each other. Sense of Community and Community Provisions directly influenced acculturation attitudes toward American culture. Community Capacity directly influenced acculturation attitudes toward Korean culture. Sense of community and Community Provisions had significant indirect effects on acculturation attitudes toward Korean culture. In Study 2, using structural equation modeling, the model of community adjustment was tested across three groups (INTEGRATION, ASSIMILATION, and SEPARATION) who had developed different acculturation attitudes and the model fit the data well except for ASSIMILATION. The results of the tests of the hypotheses in Study 2 were as follows: Sense of Community and Community Capacity were positively correlated with each other in all groups. Only INTEGRATION did Sense of Community directly influence Community Provisions. However, Community Capacity directly influenced community provisions in all three groups. In INTEGRATION and SEPARATION, Community Engagement directly influenced Community Provisions. Community Capacity indirectly influenced Community Provisions in both INTEGRATION and SEPARATION. Finally, I concluded that Korean immigrants experienced the process of community adjustment differently regarding acculturation attitudes. Results from these investigations explicitly reveal that the application of community capacity in research on acculturation was valuable for explaining some individual and contextual variations in acculturation. Acculturation was a complex, multi-dimensional process. Korean immigrants developed different attitudes and their attitudes impacted differently on their lives within their larger community.
