Haptoglobin (Hp) is an acute phase protein, and its plasma level increases consistently in response to inflammation. To investigate the biological role of Hp in lung epithelial cells, the gene expressions of cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) and inflammatory cytokines were analyzed using human Hp gene-transfected A549 cells. Western blot analysis showed that COX-2 expression was markedly increased in Hp DNA-transfected cells (stable transfection and transient transfection) compared with that in vehicle DNA-transfected cells. When the Hp-expressing cells were treated with of LPS or 100 U/ml of for 24 hr, the COX-2 expression was synergistically up-regulated. ACP-based PCR data demonstrated the Hp decreased SPARC expression, but increased IL-4 and S100AI expressions. These findings suggest that the Hp acts as a pro-inflammatory mediator in lung inflammation.

In this paper, We coupled fluid balance and director balance equation from Ericksen-Leslie`s continuum theory and observed the motion of Liquid Crystal molecular. We simulated flow velocity and director distribution in which flow effect is considered in switching on and switching off state. We interpreted the dynamic response characteristic caused by the flow. As the result of the simulation, We could see the flow effect. In the case of Twisted Nematic(TN) cell, this flow caused abnormal twist temporarily in switching off state. We could prove that this abnormal twist is a direct cause of optical bounce phenomenon known well until now with the result of simulation. In addition, We analyzed the mechanism of the fast response due to flow in the case of Optically Compensated Bend(OCB) cell.

Through the volume change of Sn in a low-temperature phase transformation, the Sn nanopowder with high, purity, was fabricated by an economic and eco-friendly process. The fine cracks were spontaneously generated. in, Sn ingot, which was reduced to powders in the repetition of phase transformation. The Sn nanopowder with 50 run in size was obtained by the 24th repetitions of phase transformation by low-temperature and ultrasonic treatments. Also, the powder was fabricated by the oxidation of the produced Sn powder to the ingot and milled by the ultrasonic milling method. The nanopowder of 20 nm in size was fabricated after the milling for 180 h.

Copper metallization has been used in high-speed logic ULSI devices instead of the conventional aluminum alloy metallization. One of the key issues in copper CMP is the development of slurries that can provide high removal rates. In this study, the effects of slurry chemicals and pH for slurry dispersion stability on Cu CMP process characteristics have been performed. The experiments of copper slurries containing each different alumina and colloidal silica particles were evaluated for their selectivity of copper to TaN and films. Furthermore, the stability of copper slurries and pH are important parameters in many industries due to problems that can arise as a result of particle settling. So, it was also observed about several variables with various pH.

Laser-induced diffusion is employed to dope indium (In) into sputtering-deposited cadmium sulfide (CdS) thin films. The increased optical band gap energy from 2.52 to 2.60 eV with maintenance of high optical transmittance about 60 nm in the 200-nm-thick films, the enhanced mobility over 42.5 cm2/Vs, and the decreased resistivity to 1.42 × 10−3 Ωcm are successfully obtained to be advantageous for a window layer in solar cells.
