With the increase in the prevalence of overweight and obesity worldwide, early adiposity rebound, which is known to have a strong association with obesity, has recently been a focus of research. Early adiposity rebound is conventionally known to have a close relationship with non-communicable diseases. However, novel insights into early adiposity rebound have implied an acceleration of growth and puberty, which is directly reflected in the trends in the timing of adiposity rebound, in the 21st century compared with in the past. Furthermore, the observation that lean mass changes rather than fat mass changes show a more similar pattern to body mass index trajectories is interesting. In this article, the later outcomes and risk factors of early adiposity rebound are briefly summarized, and the current trends in the timing of adiposity rebound and novel insights into its relationship with body composition are reviewed.

본 연구는 제 11차 청소년건강행태온라인조사 원시자료를 이용하여 한국 청소년 68,043명의 체중에 따른 정신건강, 주관적 건강 인지, 학교 체육 참여의 관계를 알아보는데 목적이 있다. 복합표본설계 로지스틱 회귀분석을 이용하여 오즈비(odds ratio)와 95% 신뢰구간(confidence interval)을 산출하였다. 정상체중인 학생에 비해 과체중 및 비만인 학생은 스트레스를 느낄 확률(남자 odds ratio (OR)=1.09, 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.02-1.18, 여자 OR=1.21, 95% CI: 1.11-1.33)이 높게 나타났으며, 행복하지 않다고 느낄 확률(남자 OR=1.16, 95% CI: 1.03-1.29)과 건강하지 않다고 느낄 확률(남자 OR=1.84, 95% CI: 1.62-2.09, 여자 OR=1.26, 95% CI: 1.11-1.43)이 높게 보고되었다. 정상체중인 남학생에 비해 과체중 및 비만인 남학생은 학교체육 수업(OR=1.13, 95% CI: 1.04-1.22)과 학교 스포츠클럽에 참여하지 않을 확률(OR=1.15, 95% CI: 1.07-1.23)이 높게 나타났다. 정상체중인 학생에 비해 저체중인 학생은 행복하지 않다고 느낄 확률(남자 OR=1.20, 95% CI: 1.01-1.42)과 건강하지 않다고 생각할 확률(남자 OR=2.75, 95% CI: 2.32-3.25, 여자 OR=1.69, 95% CI: 1.43-2.01)이 높게 보고되었다. 또한 정상체중인 학생에 비해 저체중인 학생은 학교체육 수업에 참여하지 않을 확률(남자 OR=1.39, 95% CI: 1.25-1.56 여자 OR=1.31, 95% CI: 1.16-1.49)과 학교 스포츠클럽에 참여 하지 않을 확률(남자 OR=1.23, 95% CI: 1.12-1.36, 여자 OR=1.12 95% CI: 1.01-1.25)이 높게 나타났다. 한국 청소년들의 정신적, 신체적 건강을 위한 적정 체중에 대한 교육이 필요하다고 사료된다.
