Bisphosphonates (BPs) are being increasingly used for the treatment of metabolic and oncological pathologies involving the skeletal system. Because of the severity of the BP associated osteonecrosis of the jaws, the difficulties of treatment, and patient discomfort, additional support methods for their management are needed. Laser therapy has an easy handling, photobiostimulator effect on tissues healing, so it can be considered a preferred therapy. The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of low-level laser therapy in the 685- and 830-nm wavelength in the healing process of the bone and soft tissues in rats under BP therapy [zoledronic acid (ZA)] and dexamethasone concomitantly that underwent a surgery for the extraction of upper molars. There were statistically significant differences in the clinical evaluation of the wound and the weight of the animals. Regarding the histological evaluation, it was possible to observe the different maturations of the healing stage between groups. The effect of drug therapy with ZA and dexamethasone in the bone tissue repair process induces osteonecrosis of the jaw in rats and slows down the healing process. In the laser groups, at the stipulated dosimetry, a positive influence on the bone and soft tissue repair process was observed.

Objective To investigate the effect of granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF) on oral mucositis (OM) and on the healing of traumatic ulcers produced in the tongue of rats undergoing radiotherapy (RT). Study Design Twenty-seven Wistar rats were assigned to four groups: (1) RT + traumatic ulcer + filgrastim (G-CSF analog; n = 7); (2) RT + traumatic ulcer + saline (n = 7); (3) no RT + traumatic ulcer + filgrastim (n = 7); and (4) no RT + traumatic ulcer (n = 6). The radiation dose was 30 Gy, and medication was filgrastim (10 μg/kg) for 7 days. Results Clinically, groups differed in the presence (Fisher's exact test: P = .008) and size of traumatic ulcers after irradiation (Kruskal-Wallis test: P = .032) and in the severity of OM (Fisher's exact test: P = .005 between the irradiated groups). Histologically, there was an increased inflammatory response in the nonirradiated groups (Fisher's exact test: P = .001). Conclusions Filgrastim reduced manifestations and the severity of trauma-induced ulcers and radiation-induced OM. Significant differences were not observed histologically between the study drug and respective control groups.

Este trabalho tem por objetivo demonstrar, a partir de uma revisao da literatura, as possibilidades de utilizacao do GH em tratamentos e procedimentos na area das ciencias da saude e as perspectivas na Odontologia. Revisao de Literatura: Reconstrucoes osseas sao frequentes na rotina de Cirurgias Bucomaxilofaciais, indicadas em traumas de face, patologias, cirurgia ortognatica e Implantodontia. Biomateriais osteoindutores apresentam beneficios na realizacao de enxertos osseos, devido a menor morbidade, a grande disponibilidade e quantidade de materiais, alem de maior aceitacao pelo paciente. Os fatores de crescimento podem surgir como uma alternativa interessante na reconstrucao de tecidos, destacando-se o hormonio do crescimento (GH), um regulador do crescimento e remodelamento osseo o qual tem um papel fundamental, exercendo efeito sobre os condrocitos, osteoclastos e osteoblastos. Tambem atua como um fator de crescimento produzido localmente, sendo secretado por diversos tipos de celulas. Na literatura encontrou-se o uso de GH relacionado a reparo de fraturas osseas, implantes dentarios, regeneracao ossea guiada, tratamento de nanismo de mulibrey, enxertos osseos com biomateriais, reparo de feridas, preservacao de alveolo e em ATM. Consideracoes finais: Os biomateriais estao presentes nas mais diversas reconstrucoes osseas em Odontologia. Substitutos osseos de diferentes origens sao utilizados em grande volume na pratica cirurgica. O GH parece ser, em um futuro proximo, um importante contribuinte na evolucao deste conceito. Desta forma, pesquisas e testes de associacao com outros biomateriais com caracteristicas osteocondutoras , sao de grande interesse em Odontologia.

Several vascular lesions are related to the lip area. There is no universally accepted protocol for the treatment of hemangiomas and vascular malformations. In the oral cavity, high-power lasers represent an excellent therapeutic option for this type of lesion. Their coagulative properties allow for the performance of procedures without the risk of bleeding, which promotes a better healing pattern and a differentiated postoperative appearance. This study describes three cases of lip hemangioma treated with forced dehydration with induced photocoagulation (FDIP) via diode laser. All the reported cases were followed up until complete healing of the operated area had total remission of lesions, with no complications or adverse effects. The findings of the present study suggest that FDIP is effective and useful in the treatment of hemangiomas in the oral cavity. Laser treatment of these lesions prevents their recurrence and is well tolerated by patients.
