To determine the clinical efficacy and safety of electro-scalp acupuncture in the treatment of patients with acute ischemic stroke.Totally 74 patients with acute ischemic stroke were enrolled and divided into either body acupuncture (Control) or electro-scalp acupuncture (ESA) groups according to randomized controlled principle. The patients in the control group were given body acupuncture treatment once daily for 28 d, whereas except for the body acupuncture, electro-scalp acupuncture was additional treatment given to the ESA group. Neurological deficits, everyday motor function and muscle strength were evaluated at baseline and the 28th d by NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS), Fugl-Meyer Assessment (FMA) and Modified Barthel Index Score (MBI), respectively.There were not obvious between-group differences in the baseline efficacy parameters (NIHSS, FMA and MBI) (all P0.05), whereas significant between-group differences were found in post-treatment NIHSS, FMA-UE and MBI scores (all P0.05). After acupuncture treatment, systematic within-group improvements were found in the two groups for any of the efficacy parameters assessed (all P0.01), and the ESA group showed higher significant improvements in NIHSS, FMA-UE and MBI scores (all P0.05).Electro-scalp acupuncture was efficacious in the treatment of acute ischemic stroke, which resulted in meaningful improvements in neurologic function, motor function and activities of daily living of patients.

Activated carbons (AC) were obtained through carbonization of polyaniline and modified lignosulfonate composite (PAn-MLS) under different temperatures; they are characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), Raman spectroscopy, nitrogen sorption and scanning electron microscope (SEM). With these carbon materials as the support, a series of Pd-AC catalysts for the oxidation of formic acid were prepared by liquid phase reduction and characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscope (TEM) and electrochemical analysis. The results show that with the activated carbon prepared at 800°C (AC800) as the support, the Pd-AC800 catalyst obtained performs best in the oxidation of formic acid; the palladium particles have an average size of 5.4 nm and the electro-active surface area reaches 53.78 m2/g. As the oxidation of formic acid over Pd-AC800 is realized through direct pathway rather than CO pathway, Pd-AC800 may be considered as a potential electrode material in direct formic acid fuel cells (DFAFC).

Collaborative representation based classification (CRC) codes a test sample as a linear combination of all the training samples. However, the recognition rate of CRC is not ideal when available training samples are insufficient, as the test sample cannot be accurately represented by limited training samples. In order to address this issue, we propose a novel idea of training samples fragmentation. First, all training samples are divided into two new training sample sets according to the similarity among them. Next, the test sample simultaneously uses the two new training sample sets to perform CRC, which ultimately uses 2M “nearest neighbors” from the two training sample sets to represent and classify the test sample. In addition, this method also takes advantages of a new fusion classification mechanism based on histogram similarity and Euclidean distance, which has been proven to perform better than Euclidean distance classification. The experimental results reveal that the proposed method performs better in face recognition compared with the most representation based classification methods.

An active-carbon-supported Au–Pt catalyst (Au–Pt/C) with different Pt/Au atomic ratios was prepared, and the effect of Pt/Au atomic ratio on the electrocatalytic performance of the Au–Pt/C in direct formic acid fuel cell (DFAFC), similar to the oxygen reduction ability and tolerance to formic acid, was investigated. Compared with the Au/C catalyst, the Au–Pt/C catalyst exhibits better electrocatalytic performance toward the reduction of oxygen. With the increase of Pt/Au atomic ratio from 0/50 to 2/48, the Au–Pt/C catalyst shows excellent electrocatalytic ability and formic acid tolerance. However, when the Pt/Au atomic ratio is further raised to 3/47, the formic acid tolerance of the Au–Pt/C is decreased. As a result, the Au–Pt/C catalyst with a Pt/Au atomic ratio of 2/48 is an appropriate cathodic catalyst in DFAFC.
