This report documents a series of public engagement events that were planned and delivered with a focus on engaging with local publics and non-expert communities. These events informed the direction and implementation of Project Ô innovations, enabling the project to listen to concerns and hopes about the future of circular water economy solutions. This report discusses co-creation events that took place between June and November 2022 in Spain, Italy, Croatia, and Israel as part of Project Ô's communication efforts (four local co-creation events)[1]. Finally, the report presents details of the international events organised by the project, which were aimed at a broad international professional audience. This report also documents each public engagement event, including the delivery of information, the co-creation activity, context, information gathering, and results. A description of each event is provided as an independent case study. The concluding section discusses the implications of the key findings.

Working towards a project legacy, signage was designed and installed at each Project Ô demosite. A total of 5 signs (size A0) were designed: one for the project and one for each demosite. It was envisioned that these would promote the work at individual demosites and give an overview of Project Ô, including goals, the technology modules, and the other demosites. A first draft of each signage was produced using the updated content of the website and brochures. These drafts were sent to each of the demosites for review and approval in February 2022. During March 2022, a series of meetings were held with colleagues from SOCAMEX and Acquedotto Pugliese to clarify and refine some of the infographics. By the end of the month, all signages were approved and the printed version of the files were sent to the partners.

Based on the goals and approach of Project Ô, the following strategic communication plan for social media was developed to guide project communication and dissemination during 2022. The narrative of this document starts with the current status of the project's social media accounts, followed by an analysis of similar accounts, and finally proposes a detailed work plan based on key messages, target audiences and communication channels.

The GlobalSCAPE project is setting out to investigate the experiences, attitudes, skills, needs, challenges and professional development of science communicators around the world. This is being achieved with a diary survey, a style of survey designed to be repeated at a set interval several times. The idea of such a survey is that the unfolding nature of a phenomenon can be more effectively captured through repeated measures than through a conventional cross-sectional survey design. Because the aims, scope and approach of this study are novel, a newly developed survey design was required. This work was led by survey experts within the GlobalSCAPE consortium, with input and feedback from other partners. The results survey design contained some previously validated items, but none that had been empirically assessed for the present context and survey structure. Therefore, to assess the clarity of survey questions prepared for the GlobalSCAPE science communicator diary research, a pilot study was conducted with a sample of participants gathered by project partners (n=23). This pilot research followed a piggyback approach, where follow up questions were asked of respondents after they completed each step in the survey. Results indicate that the vast majority of the questions were already clear and easy to understand. A small number of items resulted in a minority of respondents reporting uncertainty or confusion about how to respond. To address these issues, targeted adjustments to the survey design have been made. This methodological research offers insights to others who may seek to conduct survey studies with science communicators. It may also be helpful to those conducting diary survey research with professionals more generally.

BackgroundBlunt pancreatic injury is frequently managed nonoperatively in children. Nutritional support practices - either enteral or parenteral - are heterogeneous and lack evidence-based guidelines. We hypothesized that use of parenteral nutrition (PN) in children with nonoperatively managed blunt pancreatic injury would 1) be associated with longer hospital stay and more frequent complications, and 2) differ in frequency by trauma center type.MethodsWe conducted a retrospective cohort study using the National Trauma Data Bank (2007-2016). As trauma surgeons, we focus on the immediate care and needs of the injured patient every day. Historically, trauma and injury research has focused on outcomes such as mortality, complications, and length of stay; and process metrics such as time to CT scan, resuscitation checklist frequencies, or venous thromboembolism prophylaxis rates. These outcomes are perceived by healthcare providers to be important, but patients likely have different perceptions of what outcomes are most important to measure and improve. True patient-centered outcomes research involves the healthcare providers, and the entire team of stakeholders including patients and the community. Understanding the process of stakeholder engagement and the barriers trauma researchers must overcome to effectively enter this field of research is important. This summary aims to inform the trauma research community on the basics of patient-centered outcomes research, priorities for funding from the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute, resources for collaboration around patient-centered outcomes research, and a unique career development and training opportunity for early career trauma surgeons to develop a skill set in patient-centered outcomes research.

Upcoming large scale particle accelerators, such as the Future Circular Collider (FCC), the Compact Linear Collider (CLIC) and the International Linear Collider (ILC) are expected to require RF drive on the order of 100 MW. Therefore, efforts to improve the efficiency of the specific RF source is of significant interest to the particle accelerator community. Klystrons are an attractive choice as the RF source, with the current state of the art tubes offering efficiencies up to 70%. The High Efficiency International Klystron Activity (HEIKA) collaboration seeks to improve upon this by considering novel methods of electron bunching. Such methods include the core oscillation method (COM), the bunching-alignment-collection (BAC) method, as well as the use of harmonic cavities. The theory behind these bunching methods will be discussed, along with their suitability for specific particle accelerators. In addition, results from numerical simulations predicting klystrons with efficiencies larger than 80% will be presented.
