This suggested that an excessive interaction of VWF with platelets might contribute to the pathogenesis of premature IHD.

Three phases (α, β, and γ) of manganese dioxide (MnO2) are successfully stabilized in a single entity for the first time. For this purpose, Citrullus colocynthis (bitter apple) extract is used as a natural surfactant in green synthesis. MnO2 nanoparticles were synthesized in the presence and absence of plant extracts under the same conditions. The morphology of both products is analysed by SEM and STEM to understand the role of plant extract in controlling the morphology of particles. The crystallinity and composition are analysed by XRD and confirmed that the product is composed of multiple phases α, β, and γ. The reduction of dyes and nitroarenes is studied using MnO2 nanoparticles (green and chemical products) as catalysts. The apparent rate constant, a percentage reduction, time reduction and reduced concentration compare the activities of both catalysts. After comparative data analysis, the catalytic reduction of picric acid is found fastest among all the substrates. All the results are analysed based on structure, functional group and affinity towards catalysts.

An analysis is made of heat and mass transfer in a three dimensional flow between two vertical porous plates through a porous medium. Analytical solutions have been obtained using the perturbation technique. The effect of non-dimensional parameters on velocity, temperature and concentration field are shown graphically. It is seen that the main flow velocity decreases with an increase in both the radiation parameter and Schmidt number but increases with an increase in the thermal Grashoff number, mass Grashoff number as well as the permeability parameter. Variations of the shear stress at the left plate are given in a tabular form. It is seen that the shear stress due to the primary flow at the left plate increases with an increase in the Reynolds number but decrease with an increase in the Schmidt number. With the increase of both the radiation parameter and Reynolds number the temperature decreases. The concentration field also decreases with an increase of the Schmidt number. Variations of mass flux at the left plate are given in tabular form. It is seen that the mass flux at the left plate increases with increase in both Schmidt number or Reynolds number.

Tyre rubber materials are viscoelastic in nature and generates heat during its operation due to hysteresis loss. Rubber being a poor thermal conductor, heat dissipation is a concern from product durability point of view. Further, during tyre manufacturing, curing is an essential process where heat conduction of rubber materials plays an important role to achieve desirable cure state. Therefore, thermal properties of rubber compounds are important inputs for tyre designing and manufacturing process. With this background, the present work focuses on characterising thermal properties (thermal conductivity, specific heat, thermal diffusivity, etc.) of rubber compounds using a Hot Disc Thermal Conductivity (TPS-2200, Sweden). In this work, new generation fillers, such as carbon nano tube were used in the rubber compounds to improve thermal conduction and thermal properties are compared with conventional carbon black based rubber compound. These new generation fillers are anisotropic in nature and have a colossal difference in the axial (in-plane) and radial (through-plane) heat flow. For these heterogeneous materials, anisotropic methods are more decisive compared to the isotropic one to obtain their actual thermal conductivity behaviour. Hence, a comprehensive investigation of heat profiles with varying morphology and texture has been elucidated in this work for detailed understanding of tyre curing with better prediction of product performance.

Plasma fibronectin is a high molecular weight adhesive glycoprotein. There are two types of fibronectin: plasma (soluble) and cellular derived (insoluble). Electron microscopy revealed two types of structural organization of fibronectin: compact and expanded. In solution, fibronectin has a compact conformation, and after binding to certain substrates (collagen, fibrin, heparin), it is expanded. Plasma fibronectin is one of the main opsonins of blood plasma in relation to the “targets” of phagocytosis of a predominantly non-bacterial nature, as well as to some types of bacteria. For the treatment of septic processes, as well as respiratory distress syndrome of adults with severe fibronectin deficiency, plasma cryoprecipitate is used – a donor plasma preparation containing a large amount of plasma fibronectin (more than 2 mg/ml). It was proposed to replenish the level of fibronectin in patients with sepsis and other conditions that cause plasma fibronectin deficiency with the help of donor freshly frozen plasma. Transfusion of large volumes of freshly frozen plasma (up to 1000–1500 ml) to patients effectively eliminates the deficiency of plasma fibronectin. The concentration of plasma fibronectin in the blood significantly decreases after the addition of severe infectious processes to hematological diseases, as well as acute DIC syndrome. Extracorporeal methods of blood purification – selective plasmapheresis – have been developed to correct immunocomplex and fibronectin-complex pathology. Two variants of selective plasmapheresis have been proposed: the method of heparinocryoprecipitation of plasma proteins and the method of heparinocryofractionation. In 1987, a plasma heparin precipitate was proposed as a source of fibronectin for the treatment of patients with trophic skin lesions. In 1992, a new method was proposed for obtaining blood preparations with a high concentration of plasma fibronectin from patients themselves (heparin cryofractionation). Autofibronectin preparations obtained by such methods are effective in the local treatment of trophic ulcers in 90–93% of cases. The proposed drugs are safe against infection of patients with infectious diseases transmitted through the blood.

In this paper, heat transfer in flow between two horizontal parallel porous plates through a porous medium when the upper plate oscillates in its own plane has been analyzed taking into account the effect of viscous dissipation. An increment in the Prandtl number or Reynolds number results in an increment of the temperature profile. With an increase in viscous dissipative heat the temperature distribution decreases.

Abstract: Indazole is a vital nitrogen-containing heterocyclic unit in organic and medicinal chemistry research and a helpful precursor molecule for the production of various types of encirclement heterocycles. Indazole analogues are diverse pharmacological agents that can be used to treat a variety of conditions, including cancer, inflammation, infectious diseases, and neurological problems. In fact, the indazole moiety containing inhibitors also showed excellent medicinal properties for the treatment of parasitic diseases. Therefore, the development of new inhibitors has immense promise for usage as key components for the next generation as antiparasitic medication. In this review, we have summarized the recent developments of indazole-containing antiparasitic inhibitors, specially anti-protozoal, anti-fungal, and antiamoebic inhibitors, as well as their structure-activity relationship (SAR) findings for medicinal chemists who are searching for new preclinical parasitic drug candidates.

Iridium-catalyzed C–H activation and borylation reactions operate under mild conditions that enable easy and atom-economical installation of the versatile boronate ester group in (het)arenes and alkanes. The standard catalytic system for iridium-catalyzed borylation uses [Ir(cod)(OMe)]2 as a precatalyst, a bipyridine type ligand, and B2pin2 or HBpin as the borylating agent. Initially, a bipyridine-ligated trisboryl–iridium complex is generated that enables the borylation reaction and the regioselectivity is mainly governed by the sterics of substituents present on the ring. As a result, monosubstituted and 1,2-disubstituted arenes give mixtures of isomers. Significant efforts by several research groups have overcome the selectivity issue for directed proximal C–H borylation by introducing a directing group and newly developed ligands. Alzheimer’s disease (Senile Dementia) is a neurological disorder that slowly destroys memory and disseminates thinking skills. Approximately 5 million people are already affected by this disease in the United States. It shows that, up to 2060, the number of patients will increase threefold. With advances in computational biology and next-generation sequence, multiple experimentation are undergoing in exploring the novel and functional role of genes during Alzheimer’s disease. Recently development of next-generation sequence machine and bioinformatics has started to investigate the placement of genetics within the pathogenesis of Alzheimer’s disease, collectively with the consequences of genome-wide association studies (GWAS) that have implicated a number of the unconventional genes as risk factors. In this review we discuss the current scenario and advances in computational biology towards Alzheimer’s disease research. Transition metal–catalyzed C─H bond activation and borylation is a powerful synthetic method that offers versatile synthetic transformation from organoboron compounds to virtually all other functional groups. Compared to the ortho-borylation, remote borylation remains more challenging owing to the inaccessibility of these C─H bonds. Enforcing the metal catalyst toward the remote C─H bonds needs well-judged catalyst design through proper ligand development. This review article aims to summarize the recent discoveries for the remote C─H borylation by the employment of new catalyst/ligand design with the help of steric of the ligand, noncovalent interactions. It has been found that C─H borylation now takes part in the total synthesis of natural products in a shorter route. Whereas, Ir-catalyzed C─H borylation is predominant, cobalt catalyst has also started to affect this field for sustainable and cost-effective development.

Somatic HLA-I LOH is associated with decreased durable clinical benefit and progression free survival in ICI-treated NSCLC

Neoantigen presentation arises as a result of tumor-specific mutations and is a critical component of immune surveillance that can be abrogated by somatic LOH of the human leukocyte antigen class I (HLA-I) locus. To understand the role of HLA-I LOH in oncogenesis and treatment, we utilized a pan-cancer genomic dataset of 83,644 patient samples, a small subset of which had treatment outcomes with immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICI). HLA-I LOH was common (17%) and unexpectedly had a nonlinear relationship with tumor mutational burden (TMB). HLA-I LOH was frequent at intermediate TMB, yet prevalence decreased above 30 mutations/megabase, suggesting highly mutated tumors require alternate immune evasion mechanisms. In ICI-treated patients with nonsquamous non–small cell lung cancer, HLA-I LOH was a significant negative predictor of overall survival. Survival prediction improved when combined with TMB, suggesting TMB with HLA-I LOH may better identify patients likely to benefit from ICIs.Significance:This work shows the pan-cancer landscape of HLA-I LOH, revealing an unexpected “Goldilocks” relationship between HLA-I LOH and TMB, and demonstrates HLA-I LOH as a significant negative predictor of outcomes after ICI treatment. Obesity, a major global health concern, is characterized by serious imbalance between energy intake and expenditure leading to excess accumulation of fat in adipose tissue (AT). A state of chronic low-grade AT inflammation is prevalent during obesity. The adipose tissue macrophages (ATM) with astounding heterogeneity and complex regulation play a decisive role in mediating obesity-induced insulin resistance. Adipose-derived macrophages were broadly classified as proinflammatory M1 and anti-inflammatory M2 subtypes but recent reports have proclaimed several novel and intermediate profiles, which are crucial in understanding the dynamics of macrophage phenotypes during development of obesity. Lipid-laden hypertrophic adipocytes release various chemotactic signals that aggravate macrophage infiltration into AT skewing toward mostly proinflammatory status. The ratio of M1-like to M2-like macrophages is increased substantially resulting in copious secretion of proinflammatory mediators such as TNFα, IL-6, IL-1β, MCP-1, fetuin-A (FetA), etc. further worsening insulin resistance. Several AT-derived factors could influence ATM content and activation. Apart from being detrimental, ATM exerts beneficial effects during obesity. Recent studies have highlighted the prime role of AT-resident macrophage subpopulations in not only effective clearance of excess fat and dying adipocytes but also in controlling vascular integrity, adipocyte secretions, and fibrosis within obese AT. The role of ATM subpopulations as friend or foe is determined by an intricate interplay of such factors arising within hyperlipidemic microenvironment of obese AT. The present review article highlights some of the key research advances in ATM function and regulation, and appreciates the complex dynamics of ATM in the pathophysiologic scenario of obesity-associated insulin resistance.

ObjectivesTo assess the diagnostic accuracy of chest CT in clinically suspected patients with COVID-19 using reverse transcriptase PCR (RT-PCR) as the reference standard and establish the correlation between CT Severity Score (CTSS) and RT-PCR results.Design and settingRetrospective cohort study. Single-centre tertiary care hospital-based study.ParticipantsWe enrolled 112 clinically suspected patients with COVID-19 between 1 April 2021 and 31 May 2021. Chest CT and RT-PCR tests were performed for all patients at a time interval of no longer than 7 days between the two tests. Patients with prior chronic respiratory illnesses were excluded. The diagnostic performance of chest CT was evaluated using RT-PCR as the reference standard. The CTSS was calculated for all patients with positive chest CT findings, and it was correlated with results of the RT-PCR assay.Main outcome measuresThe primary outcome measures were determination of the sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value (PPV), negative predictive value (NPV) and diagnostic accuracy of chest CT using RT-PCR as the standard of reference. The correlation between CTSS and RT-PCR was the secondary outcome.Results85/112 (76%) patients tested positive on the RT-PCR whereas 91/112 (81%) had chest CT findings typical of SARS-CoV-2 infection. Chest CT had a sensitivity of 90.6% (95% CI 82.3% to 95.8%), a specificity of 48.1% (95% CI 28.7% to 68.0%), a PPV of 84.6% (95% CI 79.2% to 88.8%), an NPV of 61.9% (95% CI 43.0% to 77.8%) and an accuracy of 80.4% (95% CI 71.8% to 87.3%). There was a significant correlation between the CTSS and RT-PCR positivity (p value=0.003).ConclusionIn our experience, chest CT has a good sensitivity and provides a reliable diagnostic tool for moderate-to-severe COVID-19 cases in resource limited settings.

In the context of obesity-induced adipose tissue inflammation, migration of macrophages and their polarization from predominantly anti-inflammatory to proinflammatory subtype is considered a pivotal event in the loss of adipose insulin sensitivity. Two major chemoattractants, monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 (MCP-1) and Fetuin A (FetA), have been reported to stimulate macrophage migration into inflamed adipose tissue instigating inflammation. Moreover, FetA could notably modulate macrophage polarization, yet the mechanism(s) is unknown. The present study was undertaken to elucidate the mechanistic pathway involved in the actions of FetA and MCP-1 in obese adipose tissue. We found that FetA knockdown in high fat diet (HFD) fed mice could significantly subdue the augmented MCP-1 expression and reduce adipose tissue macrophage (ATM) content thereby indicating that MCP-1 is being regulated by FetA. Additionally, knockdown of FetA in HFD mice impeded the expression of inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) reverting macrophage activation from mostly proinflammatory to anti-inflammatory state. It was observed that the stimulating effect of FetA on MCP-1 and iNOS was mediated through interferon γ (IFNγ) induced activation of JAK2-STAT1-NOX4 pathway. Furthermore, we detected that the enhanced IFNγ expression was accounted by the stimulatory effect of FetA upon the activities of both cJun and JNK. Taken together, our findings revealed that obesity-induced FetA acts as a master upstream regulator of adipose tissue inflammation by regulating MCP-1 and iNOS expression through JNK-cJun-IFNγ-JAK2-STAT1 signaling pathway. This study opened a new horizon in understanding the regulation of ATM content and activation in conditions of obesity-induced insulin resistance.

Prediction is one of the activities that scientists engage in with great care, because they understand that models of biological processes are based on simplifying assumptions. This is true for medical systems as well. In the conditions of digital reality, new opportunities have opened up for processing and interpreting information of clinical interest. However, the risks of making erroneous conclusions based on “standardized” and unnecessarily unified approaches, including those based on neural network technologies, have also increased. Causal concepts in relation to complex biomedical systems can be realized only in relation to systems close to critical states. Approaches to personalized risk assessment of intravascular platelet activation are discussed.

Intracellular viscosity is a physicochemical property that regulates the consequences of several biological progressions. Cysteine (Cys) is an important signaling molecule that commands many cellular activities, such as antioxidant generation. Predicting that both may be interconnected with a diversity of pathological processes, their contemporaneous measurement would be valuable for studying the pathological ailment of cells. Herein, we have synthesized a 'double locked' probe, acrylic acid 6-[4-(2-benzothiazol-2-yl-2-cyano-vinyl)-phenyl]-naphthalen-2-yl ester (ABN) for the detection of Cys in a viscous medium and explored its application to living cells that were exposed to dexamethasone to regulate the intracellular viscosity level. ABN displayed a satisfactory ratiometric (blue to orange) fluorescence response in solution and in living cells when Cys and viscosity coexisted. A turn-on fluorescence signal was visualized when the probe was individually treated with Cys and glycerol (a standard viscosity source). Therefore, we propose that ABN is a fluorescent probe that permits the monitoring of variations in intracellular viscosity and Cys levels in a biological environment, and it can be utilized in innumerable cellular damage models.

Background Some literature has shown a high prevalence of pre-clinical diastolic dysfunction in subjects with type 2 diabetes mellitus. The current study was carried out to determine the association of glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c) levels with left ventricular diastolic dysfunction (LVDD) in patients with type 2 diabetes. Methods An observational cross-sectional study was conducted in a tertiary health care center in Jharkhand. A total of 100 subjects diagnosed with type 2 diabetes mellitus who gave informed consent and fulfilled the inclusion and exclusion criteria were studied in our center from April 2019 to September 2020. Logistic regression was carried out to determine the association of potential variables with outcomes. Multivariable logistic regression analysis was conducted to determine the independent effects of variables for LVDD prediction. Results The mean HbA1c of the population with LVDD was found to be higher (11.07 ± 3.66%) as compared to the population with normal LVDD (9.11 ± 2.95%), which was found statistically significant (probability value (P) =0.004). This signifies that a higher level of HbA1c in a patient with diabetes will have a higher incidence of LVDD. On applying multivariate analysis to determine the independent effect of variables for LVDD, HbA1C was found to be significant with an odds ratio (OR) of 1.26, 95% CI 1.08-1.48. The duration of diabetes was also found to be significant with OR 1.48 and CI 95 % (1.20-1.82) P0.001. On plotting the receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC), the area under the ROC curve to predict the left ventricular function with the model was 0.8137. Conclusions Patients who have higher HbA1C are linked to a higher risk of left ventricular diastolic dysfunction in patients with type 2 diabetes. The combination of diabetes and left ventricular dysfunction can lead to increase morbidity and mortality in those patients in whom it is not identified timely and appropriate measures are not taken. Our work emphasizes the requirement of screening intermittently symptomless diabetic patients for diastolic dysfunction through a Doppler echocardiography so that timely action can be taken.

Being ignorant or unaware is not expected in a situation like the pandemic of COVID-19 with modern internet connectivity and the era of social media. However, information overload may itself lead to health anxiety.This study investigated the predictability of health anxiety with information overload and sociodemographic profiles during the COVID-19 pandemic.A cross-sectional study was done among 400 caretakers of non-covid patients in a tertiary healthcare medical college. The consenting participants provided their sociodemographic details and responded to the short health anxiety inventory (SHAI), Beck anxiety inventory (BAI) and Information overload scale (IOS) for COVID-19.A total number of 400 participants aged 35.58 ± 10.57 years participated and out of which 88.2% acknowledged health-related anxiety and 56.8% for excessive use of social media. BAI measured anxiety was mild for 19.8%, moderate for 3.5% and severe for 3%. The linear regression analysis predicted health anxiety by three variables only: total anxiety as measured by the Beck anxiety inventory [β = 0.416, t = 9.318, p = 0.000], information overload (rejection of information) [β = 0.171, t = 3.126, p = 0.002], and excessive use of social media [β = 0.124, t = 2.888, p = 0.004].Information overload, its rejection and excessive use of social media were found to be predictive of health-related anxiety.

A new catalytic method for

Atraumatic subdural hematoma (SDH) is a rare occurrence in neurosurgery practice. Such a case in pregnancy is also very rare. Here, we present a case of 33 weeks pregnant female presented with SDH which was operated and there was recurrence of similar hematoma in the same patient in the postpartum period. The primary cause in both the hematomas was unknown, but a pregnancy related or other risk factors may be responsible for causation of the hematomas in this case.

2-(N-alkylamino)pyrimidines are important heterocycles widely found in various pharmaceutically important drugs. Here, we have disclosed a new cooperative ruthenium complex catalyzed tandem multicomponent synthesis of 2-(N-alkylamino)pyrimidines directly from guanidine salt and alcohols. The reactions proceeded through the dehydrogenation of alcohols, followed by C C coupling and sequential C N coupling with guanidine and primary alcohol, with the elimination of three equivalents of hydrogen gas. In this work, application of both the acceptorless dehydrogenative coupling (ADC) and borrowing hydrogen (BH) strategies were accomplished in a single reaction. This catalytic method tolerated a wide range of substrates. The viability of the current method was demonstrated by preparative scale synthesis of a few products. A plausible catalytic cycle was proposed based on various control experiments, mechanistic studies and DFT calculations. Remarkably, 42 new 2-(N-alkylamino)pyrimidines were synthesized following this catalytic protocol.

SummaryDetermining the rheology of drilling fluid under subsurface conditions—that is, pressure > 103.4 MPa (15,000 psi) and temperature > 450 K (350°F)—is very important for safe and trouble-free drilling operations of high-pressure/high-temperature (HP/HT) wells. As the severity of HP/HT wells increases, it is challenging to measure downhole rheology accurately. In the absence of rheology measurement tools under HP/HT conditions, it is essential to develop an accurate rheological model under extreme conditions. In this study, temperature- and pressure-dependence rheology of drilling fluids [i.e., shear viscosity, apparent viscosity (AV), and plastic viscosity (PV)] are predicted at HP/HT conditions using the fundamental momentum transport mechanism (i.e., kinetic theory) of liquids. Drilling fluid properties (e.g., density, thermal decomposition temperature, and isothermal compressibility), and Fann® 35 Viscometer (Fann Instrument Corporation, Houston, USA) readings at surface conditions, are the only input parameters for the proposed HP/HT shear viscosity model. The proposed model has been tested using 26 different types of HP/HT drilling fluids, including water, formate, oil, and synthetic oil as base fluids. The detailed error and the sensitivity analysis have been performed to demonstrate the accuracy of the proposed model and yield comparative results. The proposed model is quite simple and may be applied to accurately predict the rheology of numerous drilling fluids. In the absence of subsurface rheology under HP/HT conditions, the proposed viscosity model may be used as a reliable soft-sensor tool for the online monitoring and control of rheology under downhole conditions while drilling HP/HT wells.

Remote meta selective C–H functionalization , , of aromatic compounds remains a challenging problem in chemical synthesis. Here, we report an iridium catalyst bearing a bidentate pyridine-pyridone (PY-PYRI) ligand framework that efficiently catalyzes this meta selective borylation reaction. We demonstrate that the developed concept can be employed to introduce a boron functionality at the remote meta position of phenols, phenol containing bioactive and drug molecules, which was an extraordinary challenge. Moreover, we have demonstrated that the method can also be applied for the remote C6 borylation of indole derivatives including tryptophan that was the key synthetic precursor for the total synthesis of Verruculogen and Fumitremorgin A alkaloids. The origin of the remote meta selectivity was described as a secondary silicon oxygen interaction that was never used in C–H functionalization chemistry.

The current work aims to advance the hydrophilicity, morphology, and antifouling characteristics of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) membranes for oily wastewater separation by incorporating modified bentonite. The surface of bentonite nanoparticles is altered by adopting the "grafting from" method using the surface-initiated atom transfer radical polymerization (SI-ATRP) approach. The PVC-based membrane is first prepared by blending acrylamide grafted bentonite (AAm-g-bentonite). AAm is grafted on bentonite in the presence of 2,2'-Bipyridyl and copper (I) bromide as a catalyst. The modified bentonite nanoparticles are studied using multiple techniques, such as fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA), sedimentation tests, field emission scanning electron microscope (FE-SEM), etc. Flat-sheet PVC-based membrane is prepared by blending AAm-g-bentonite using the nonsolvent induced phase separation (NIPS) technique. Different methods, including FE-SEM, FTIR, sedimentation test, contact angle, porosity, antifouling property, and filtration studies of pure and oily water, are used to characterize and determine the performance of mixed-matrix membranes. Membrane performance is improved in the presence of modified bentonite (i.e., AAm-g-bentonite), with the best result achieved at PVC/AAm-g-ben-8 (i.e., 8 wt % of AAm-g-bentonite). We report a convenient method for the highly site-selective borylation of 8-arylquinoline. The reaction proceeds smoothly in the presence of a catalytic amount of [Ir(OMe)(cod)]2 and 2-phenylpyridine derived ligand using bis(pinacolato)diborane as the borylating agent. The reactions occur with high selectivity with many functional groups, providing a series of borylated 8-aryl quinolines with good to excellent yield and excellent selectivity. The borylated compounds formed in this method can be transformed into various important synthons by using known transformations.

A small village named Murti is situated along the bank of river Murti in Dooars. The adjacent area of murti is rich in insect biodiversity. Knowledge on the diversity and the role of Orthopteran insects in tea ecosystem of West Bengal including Dooars and Terai is very scanty. Hemocytes are the chief immune cells of insects. The number and shape of hemocytes can change rapidly in response to environmental stress and pollution. Grasshopper (Orthoptera) species were collected from Murti and adjoining areas and from different agricultural fields of North 24 Parganas (West Bengal). Hemolymph was stained by Giemsa, and Neutral Red. Cellular morphology and phagocytosis was examined. Normal cell shape and behavioural activities like phagocytosis, cell-cell fusion was observed in insects collected from Murti, and adjoining areas of Dooars. But in case of insect hemocytes isolated from different agricultural fields of North 24 Parganas and its adjacent sites showed altered shape and different phases of cell death like degeneration of nuclei, formation of membrane blebs and rupture of plasma membrane. Toxic environmental pollutants may be responsible for alteration of hemocytes size and function which may effect on biodiversity. Hemocytes can be used as an effective bio-indicator by which the health of the ecosystem can be screened.

Cerebral salt wasting (CSW) is an important cause of hyponatraemia in the background of a central nervous system disease. It causes hypovolaemic hyponatraemia and is associated with polyuria and high urine sodium levels. It is important to distinguish it from the more common syndrome of inappropriate antidiuretic hormone and this is primarily based on the volume status. Although CSW has been known to present with confusion, stupor, abnormal behaviour and seizures, its association with catatonia is yet to be reported. We report a case in which the patient developed CSW and hyponatraemia as a sequela of tuberculous meningitis and presented with catatonia. Prompt correction of hyponatraemia resulted in complete reversal of catatonia. This highlights the importance of evaluating all patients with catatonia for electrolyte abnormalities, especially hyponatraemia as its correction leads to excellent outcomes.
