Introduction The number of people with dementia will increase in India in the years to come as in rest of the world. So far, there is no cure for dementia disease. With the progression of dementia, the person with dementia is unable to carry out his or her daily living activities independently. Health care responsibilities are mainly borne by individual families in countries like India. There is a scarcity of studies exploring informal and formal caregivers’ experiences providing care to people with dementia from an Indian perspective. Method and analysis This protocol follows the Joanna Briggs Institute Reviewer’s Manual (2020) for scoping review and is registered with the Open Science Framework…. We will include following databases: Medline, Embase, PsycInfo, CINAHL, Web of science and Epistemonikos. Four reviewers will independently screen eligible studies for inclusion based on the inclusion criteria. Four reviewers will independently review the full text of the selected studies. We will extract bibliographical data, study design, setting and identify key findings related to experiences of caregivers of people with dementia in an Indian setting. Identified concepts will be analysed and described using narrative synthesis? Ethics and dissemination Ethical approval is not required for scoping review as data analysis is secondary analysis based on published data. We plan to disseminate the results through peer-reviewed journals and conferences targeting informal and formal caregivers of people with dementia. We hope that the knowledge gained by this study may enable better health care and supportive services to this population in India.
