Corneal endothelial cells do not proliferate after birth and their number decrease with age. Trauma, inflammation, or surgical intervention can cause cell loss. When damage is extensive and the density of corneal endothelial cells decreases to a critical level, it results in corneal edema and vision loss. Besides them, when corneal endothelium has irreversible damage, the only treatment way is corneal transplantation. But there are some drawbacks such as finding donors, immune reactions, and the number of patients waiting on the transplantation lists for years. Tissue engineering approaches can provide promising alternatives for the regeneration of corneal endothelium tissue. Peptides can be used to modify and functionalize the scaffolds, allowing for the production of bioactive and biomimetic surfaces. Peptide-modified scaffold surfaces might direct and enhance the behaviors of cells. In this study, the aim was to functionalize the polycaprolactone (PCL) membranes with tissue-specific peptides and to characterize the peptide-conjugated membranes by Fourier-Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), and X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS) analysis. Sea-blue histiocytosis is one of the six types of Niemann-Pick disease. It is characterized by childhood onset of hepatosple-nomegaly, lack of neurological involvement and diminished sphingomyelinase activity. Pulmonary system is rarely invol-ved sea-blue histiocytosis. In this paper, we present a 39-years-old male who had previously diagnosed as sea-blue histi-ocytosis at the age of 15. He was admitted to our clinic due to productive cough, hemoptysis, fever and weight loss. Hissymptoms did not resolve with the antibiotic treatment and further investigations revealed pulmonary involvement of sea-blue histiocytosis. After diagnostic bronchoalveolar lavage, his symptomes were improved, interestingly. This rare entitywas discussed with literature survey.

INTRODUCTION Obstructive sleep apnea syndrome is characterized by episodic narrowing of the upper respiratory ways accompanied by an oxygen desaturation during sleep. REM-related obstructive sleep apnea syndrome, comprises a subgroup of sleep disordered breathing with a 10-36% frequency. The aim of the present study is to analyze the frequency, the antropometric and polygraphic features of REM-related obstructive sleep apnea syndrome. MATERIALS AND METHODS A total of 427 cases [332 males (77.4%) and 95 females (22.6%)] with definitive obstructive sleep apnea syndrome diagnosis with polysomnography records were included into the study. RESULTS Of all the cases, 108 (25.3%) were REM-related sleep respiratory disorder. There was no difference between the two groups with regard to age and sex. However, the obstructive sleep apnea syndrome group non-related to REM demonstrated a more severe obstructive sleep apnea syndrome and a longer neck circumference. Superficial sleep was longer in the REM non-related group, while deep refreshing sleep (Non-REM 3) was longer in the REM-related group. The subgroup analysis of the REM-related group with regard to sex revealed a higher body mass index in the female subgroup. CONCLUSION REM-related sleep respiratory disorder is more often in mild-to-moderate obstructive sleep apnea syndrome cases, the male/female ratio of REM-related sleep respiratory disorder is not different from the obstructive sleep apnea syndrome prevalence in the community.

Objective: We aimed to present the characteristics, genetic analysis results, long-term prognosis of our patients with distal kidney tubular acidosis, and the relationship between hyperammonemia and distal kidney tubular acidosis. Materials and Methods: Biochemical, clinical, and imaging findings were collected at presentation and the last clinic visit, and results of the genetic analysis were recorded. Results: Our study included 9 patients (3 female, 33%). The median age at diagnosis was 3 months, and the median follow-up period was 111 months. Height standard deviation scores were less than −2 in 4 (44%) patients at presentation and in 3 (33%) at the last clinic visit. The median estimated glomerular filtration rate was 98 mL/min/1.73 m2 at presentation and 126 mL/min/1.73 m2 at the last clinic visit. We have found 8 different types of mutations of 2 genes, including 6 in the ATP6V0A4 gene, 2 in the SLCA4A1 gene, and 2 of them were novel. At the time of presentation, nephrocalcinosis and hypercalciuria were present in all our patients, but at the last visit, only 1 patient had hypercalciuria. Sensorineural hearing loss was found in 4 of our patients with a mutation in the ATP6V0A4 gene. Serum ammonia levels were found to be high in 3 patients with mutations in the ATP6V0A4 gene. Conclusion: Adequate metabolic control is essential for optimal growth and preserved kidney function in distal kidney tubular acidosis patients. Distal kidney tubular acidosis may be associated with hyperammonemia. We recommend keeping potassium levels at high-normal levels to reduce ammonia levels, especially in the absence of acidosis.
