Abstract: The CUORE experiment is searching for the neutrinoless double β decay of the 130Te using cryogenic calorimeters. The CUORE detector consists of 988 TeO2 crystals packed in 19 towers and placed in a cryogenic facility with a base temperature of 10 mK. Crystals are enriched in the isotope 130Te which is the candidate for the neutrinoless double β decay. It is taking data since 2017 at the Laboratori Nazionali del Gran Sasso in Italy. Such a long operation of a bolometric experiment in stable condition has no precedent: by reaching 1 tonne-year of exposure CUORE set a fundamental milestone for any future experiment using this technology. The CUORE collaboration investigated the neutrinoless double β decay of 130Te exploiting the updated 1 tonne-year of statistics, setting a limit of 2.2 × 1025 yr at the 90% of credibility interval on the half-life, with a median sensitivity of 2.8 × 1025 yr.

Abstract: The measurement of nuclear neutrinoless double-beta decay would be a revolutionary result in particle physics. The observation of such a decay would prove that the neutrinos are their own antiparticles, help to study the absolute mass of neutrinos, explore the origin of their mass, and may explain the matter-antimatter asymmetry in our universe by the violation of lepton number. We propose to develop a time projection chamber (TPC) using high-pressure 82SeF6 gas and the top-metal silicon sensors for read-out in the China Jinping Underground Laboratory (CJPL), to search for neutrinoless double-beta decay of 82Se, called the NvDEx experiment. Besides located at CJPL with world's deepest rock shielding, NvDEx combines the advantages of the high Q value (2.996 MeV) of 82Se and TPC's ability to distinguish signal and background events using their different topological characteristics. These give NvDEx unique and great potential for low background and high sensitivity. NvDEx-100, the NvDEx experiment phase with 100 kg of SeF6 gas, is being built and planned to complete with installation at CJPL around year 2025. This report will introduce the neutrinoless double-beta decay physics, NvDEx concept and its advantages, the schematic design of NvDEx-100 and its sub-systems, as well as the background and sensitivity estimation for it.

3. $0νββ$-decay nuclear matrix elements in self-consistent Skyrme quasiparticle random phase approximation: uncertainty from pairing interaction

Abstract: The uncertainty in the nuclear matrix elements (NMEs) of $0νββ$ decay for $^{76}$Ge, $^{82}$Se, $^{128}$Te, $^{130}$Te, and $^{136}$Xe in the self-consistent quasiparticle random phase approximation (QRPA) method is investigated by using eighteen Skyrme interactions supplemented with either a volume- or surface-type of pairing interactions. The NMEs for the isotopes concerned (except $^{136}$Xe) are less sensitive to the particle-hole ($ph$) interactions, while strongly dependent on the employed isovector particle-particle ($pp$) pairing interactions even though the pairing strengths are optimized to the same pairing gap. The results indicate that a precise determination of the isovector $pp$ pairing interaction in the Skyrme energy density functional is of importance to reduce the uncertainty in the NMEs within the QRPA framework., 7 pages, 5 figures

4. A level mascon solution from GRACE/GRACE-FO data reveals global terrestrial water storage change

Abstract: The Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment (GRACE) and GRACE Follow-On (GRACE-FO) missions have been recording Earth's time-variable gravity for nearly 20 years. The resulting gravity data has been used to study mass changes and to invert global terrestrial water storage change (TWSC). This study derives a new method for producing global TWSC maps in the form of so-called “mass concentration (mascon)”. In this study, we show that the use of irregularly shaped mascon patches that follow land/ocean boundaries reduces the leakage of land signals into ocean regions and vice versa. One highlight of this study is that we divided the global mascon patches according to basin boundaries as with land/ocean boundaries. The advantage of this divided method is that it is clearer and more reliable to statistic the basin’s TWSC and avoiding cross-basin contamination. On the basis of dividing mascon patches by basins, we select 20 global largest river basins and statistically analyze the time series, trend and amplitude of TWSC signals, compared with different research groups—JPL, CSR and GSFC. The results show that the spatial distribution of TWSC in some basins by this mascon solution is more reasonable than other research groups (JPL, CSR, GSFC), which avoids mutual leakage and interaction of mass changes between basins. From the time series of TWSC in statistical 20 basins, this mascon solution can capture higher amplitude and obtain more true signals, which brings an improvement in hydrological signal recovery compared to the other mascon solutions., The 28th IUGG General Assembly (IUGG2023) (Berlin 2023)

Abstract: The Cryogenic Underground Observatory for Rare Events (CUORE) at Laboratori Nazionali del Gran Sasso of INFN in Italy is an experiment searching for neutrinoless double beta (0νββ) decay. Its main goal is to investigate this decay in ^{130}Te, but its ton-scale mass and low background make CUORE sensitive to other rare processes as well. In this Letter, we present our first results on the search for 0νββ decay of ^{128}Te, the Te isotope with the second highest natural isotopic abundance. We find no evidence for this decay, and using a Bayesian analysis we set a lower limit on the ^{128}Te 0νββ decay half-life of T_{1/2}3.6×10^{24} yr (90% CI). This represents the most stringent limit on the half-life of this isotope, improving by over a factor of 30 the previous direct search results, and exceeding those from geochemical experiments for the first time.

Abstract: CUORE is a large scale cryogenic experiment searching for neutrinoless double beta decay ($0νββ$) in $^{130}$Te. The CUORE detector is made of natural tellurium, providing the possibility of rare event searches on isotopes other than $^{130}$Te. In this work we describe a search for neutrinoless positron emitting electron capture ($0νβ^+EC$) decay in $^{120}$Te with a total TeO$_2$ exposure of 355.7 kg $\cdot$ yr, corresponding to 0.2405 kg $\cdot$ yr of $^{120}$Te. Albeit $0 νββ$ with two final state electrons represents the most promising channel, the emission of a positron and two 511-keV $γ$s make $0νβ^+EC$ decay signature extremely clear. To fully exploit the potential offered by the detector modularity we include events with different topology and perform a simultaneous fit of five selected signal signatures. Using blinded data we extract a median exclusion sensitivity of $3.4 \cdot 10^{22}$ yr at 90% Credibility Interval (C.I.). After unblinding we find no evidence of $0νβ^+EC$ signal and set a 90% C.I. Bayesian lower limit of $2.9 \cdot 10^{22}$ yr on $^{120}$Te half-life. This result improves by an order of magnitude the existing limit from the combined analysis of CUORE-0 and Cuoricino.

9. Overground Gait Kinematics and Muscle Activation Patterns in the Yucatan Mini Pig

Abstract: A growing number of spinal cord injury, neuromodulation, and cell therapy studies on porcine models, especially the Yucatan minipigs (YMPs), have been recently reported. This is due to the large similarities between human and porcine neuroanatomy and biomechanics. To assess treatment modalities and locomotor recovery in this model, there is an obvious need for detailed characterization of normative overground gait in neurologically intact YMPs. The objective of this study was to assess gait biomechanics and the effect of overground walking speed on gait parameters, kinematics, and electromyographic (EMG) activity in the hindlimb muscles of YMPs. Nine neurologically-intact adult YMPs were trained to walk overground in a straight line. Whole-body kinematics and EMG activity of hindlimb muscles were recorded and analyzed at 6 different speed ranges (0.4-0.59, 0.6-0.79, 0.8-0.99, 1.0-1.19, 1.2-1.39, and 1.4-1.6 m/s). A MATLAB program was developed to detect strides and gait events automatically from motion-captured data. Significant decreases in stride duration, stance and swing times and an increase in stride length were observed with increasing speed. A transition in gait pattern occurred at the 1.0m/s walking speed. Significant increases in the range of motion of the knee and ankle joints were observed at higher speeds. Also, the points of minimum and maximum knee and ankle joint angles occurred earlier in the gait cycle at higher speeds. The onset of EMG activity in the biceps femoris muscle occurred significantly earlier in the gait cycle with increasing speed. A comprehensive characterization of overground walking in neurologically-intact YMPs is provided. These normative measures set the basis against which the effects of future interventions on locomotor capacity in YMPs can be compared.

10. Measurement of the 2νββ Decay Half-Life of ^{130}Te with CUORE

Abstract: We measured two-neutrino double beta decay of ^{130}Te using an exposure of 300.7 kg yr accumulated with the CUORE detector. Using a Bayesian analysis to fit simulated spectra to experimental data, it was possible to disentangle all the major background sources and precisely measure the two-neutrino contribution. The half-life is in agreement with past measurements with a strongly reduced uncertainty: T_{1/2}^{2ν}=7.71_{-0.06}^{+0.08}(stat)_{-0.15}^{+0.12}(syst)×10^{20} yr. This measurement is the most precise determination of the ^{130}Te 2νββ decay half-life to date.

11. Single-state or low-lying-states dominance mechanism of $2νββ$-decay nuclear matrix elements

Abstract: The $2νββ$-decay nuclear matrix elements (NMEs) for 11 nuclei are studied with the self-consistent quasiparticle random phase approximation (QRPA) based on Skyrme Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov (Skyrme HFB) model. As a common feature pointed out in https://journals.aps.org/prc/abstract/10.1103/PhysRevC.98.064325 Phys. Rev. C 98, 064325 (2018), negative contributions in the running sums of NMEs are found, and play important roles in the fulfillment of the single-state dominance or low-lying-states dominance hypothesis. By comparing the results of QRPA model and quasiparticle Tamm-Dancoff approximation (QTDA) model, we find that the negative contributions are due to the enhanced ground-state correlations, which are brought by the backward amplitude in QRPA model and tuned by strong isoscalar pairing interaction. The enhancement of ground-state correlations will change the signs of GT$^{+}$ transition amplitudes of higher-lying states and leads to the negative contributions in the running sum., 9 pages, 8 figures

12. Investigation on the Effect of Low Temperature on Impact Properties of Ti-6Al-4V Titanium Alloy

Abstract: Cryogenic cutting is becoming an attractive machining method for difficult-to-cut materials. However, it’s very difficult to analyze directly their cutting mechanism at low temperature. In order to better understand the various physical phenomena in the cryogenic cutting of titanium alloy, the Charpy impact test of Ti-6Al-4V titanium alloy at low temperatures (as low as -196 °C) was undertaken in this work. The Charpy absorbed energy of Ti-6Al-4V titanium alloy at low temperatures was investigated firstly. Then, by observing the microscopic and macroscopic morphology of the fracture, the impact properties and fracture modes of Ti-6Al-4V titanium alloy at low temperatures were analyzed. It was found that the impact toughness of Ti-6Al-4V titanium alloy reduces when the temperature decreases from 20 °C to -196 °C, and the fracture appears a tendency to become brittle. Meanwhile, three kinds of areas, i.e. shear lip area, fiber area, and radiation area, were found on the fracture morphology at each temperature. Those areas correspond to the shear fracture zone, crack initiation zone, and crack extension zone, respectively. With the decrease in temperature, the proportion of fiber area decreases, and the radiation area appears and increases gradually. However, fiber areas were still observed on the macroscopic morphology of the fracture under − 196 °C, which suggests that Ti-6Al-4V titanium alloy still has the ability to deform plastically at such low temperatures. The research result in this work provide a fundamental support for analyzing the cutting mechanism of Ti-6Al-4V titanium alloy at low temperatures.

Abstract: 8 pags., 2 figs., 2 tabs., Reduced transition probabilities have been measured for the neutron-rich Ni73,74,75 nuclei with relativistic Coulomb excitation performed at the RIKEN Nishina Center. For the even-even Ni isotope the determined B(E2;0+→2+) value is compatible within errors with the result of a previous intermediate energy Coulomb excitation experiment, although being somewhat larger. For the odd Ni isotopes B(E2) values have been determined for the first time. In the middle νg9/2 shell nucleus Ni73 three peak candidates have been observed and tentatively assigned to the (5/2+), (13/2+), and (11/2+) excitations. Two peak candidates have been observed in Ni75 and tentatively assigned to the (13/2+) and (11/2+) levels. The measured B(E2) values are in line with the large B(E2) reported in Ni70 and at variance with the small strength measured in Ni72. Excitation energies compare well with the result of large-scale shell-model calculations, while B(E2) values are larger than predicted. This could indicate an increasing contribution of proton excitations across the Z=28 shell closure when approaching Ni78., The excellent work of the Riken-Nishina Center accelerator staff is acknowledged. Abstract: We used a high-resolution magnetic spectrograph to study neutron pair-correlated $0^+$ states in $^{136}$Ba, produced via the $^{138}{\rm Ba}(p,t)$ reaction. In conjunction with state-of-the-art shell model calculations, these data benchmark part of the dominant Gamow-Teller component of the nuclear matrix element (NME) for $^{136}$Xe neutrinoless double beta ($0��$) decay. We demonstrate for the first time an evaluation of part of a $0��$ decay NME by use of an experimental observable, presenting a new avenue of approach for more accurate calculations of $0��$ decay matrix elements.

Abstract: We report on the measurement of the two-neutrino double beta decay half-life of $^{130}$Te with the CUORE-0 detector. From an exposure of 33.4 kg$\cdot$y of TeO$_2$, the half-life is determined to be $T_{1/2}^{2\nu}$ = [8.2 $\pm$ 0.2 (stat.) $\pm$ 0.6 (syst.)] $\times$ 10$^{20}$y. Abstract: The CUORE experiment, a ton-scale cryogenic bolometer array, recently began operation at the Laboratori Nazionali del Gran Sasso in Italy. The array represents a significant advancement in this technology, and in this work we apply it for the first time to a high-sensitivity search for a lepton-number--violating process: $^{130}$Te neutrinoless double-beta decay. Examining a total TeO$_2$ exposure of 86.3 kg$\cdot$yr, characterized by an effective energy resolution of (7.7 $\pm$ 0.5) keV FWHM and a background in the region of interest of (0.014 $\pm$ 0.002) counts/(keV$\cdot$kg$\cdot$yr), we find no evidence for neutrinoless double-beta decay. The median statistical sensitivity of this search is $7.0\times10^{24}$ yr. Including systematic uncertainties, we place a lower limit on the decay half-life of $T^{0��}_{1/2}$($^{130}$Te) > $1.3\times 10^{25}$ yr (90% C.L.). Combining this result with those of two earlier experiments, Cuoricino and CUORE-0, we find $T^{0��}_{1/2}$($^{130}$Te) > $1.5\times 10^{25}$ yr (90% C.L.), which is the most stringent limit to date on this decay. Abstract: We have performed a search for neutrinoless $��^{+}\hspace{-0.2em}EC$ decay of $^{120}$Te using the final CUORE-0 data release. We describe a new analysis method for the simultaneous fit of signatures with different event topology, and of data subsets with different signal efficiency, obtaining a limit on the half-life of the decay of $T_{1/2}>1.6\cdot10^{21}$ yr at $90\%$ CI. Combining this with results from Cuoricino, a predecessor experiment, we obtain the strongest limit to date, corresponding to $T_{1/2}>2.7\cdot10^{21}$ yr at $90\%$ CI., 10 pages, 6 figures, 3 tables

Abstract: We report a study of the CUORE sensitivity to neutrinoless double beta ($0��$) decay. We used a Bayesian analysis based on a toy Monte Carlo (MC) approach to extract the exclusion sensitivity to the $0��$ decay half-life ($T_{1/2}^{0��}$) at $90\%$ credibility interval (CI) -- i.e. the interval containing the true value of $T_{1/2}^{0��}$ with $90\%$ probability -- and the $3 ��$ discovery sensitivity. We consider various background levels and energy resolutions, and describe the influence of the data division in subsets with different background levels. If the background level and the energy resolution meet the expectation, CUORE will reach a $90\%$ CI exclusion sensitivity of $2\cdot10^{25}$ yr with $3$ months, and $9\cdot10^{25}$ yr with $5$ years of live time. Under the same conditions, the discovery sensitivity after $3$ months and $5$ years will be $7\cdot10^{24}$ yr and $4\cdot10^{25}$ yr, respectively., 10 pages, 3 figures, 4 tables

Abstract: The $\beta$ decay of the drip-line nucleus $^{20}$Mg gives important information on resonances in $^{20}$Na, which are relevant for the astrophysical $rp$-process. A detailed $\beta$ decay spectroscopic study of $^{20}$Mg was performed by a continuous-implantation method. A detection system was specially developed for charged-particle decay studies, giving improved spectroscopic information including the half-life of $^{20}$Mg, the excitation energies, the branching ratios, and the log $ft$ values for the states in $^{20}$Na populated in the $\beta$ decay of $^{20}$Mg. A new proton branch was observed and the corresponding excited state in $^{20}$Na was proposed. The large isospin asymmetry for the mirror decays of $^{20}$Mg and $^{20}$O was reproduced, as well. However, no conclusive conclusion can be draw about the astrophysically interesting 2645~keV resonance in $^{20}$Na due to the limited statistics.

Abstract: The decay of the proton-rich nucleus $^{22}$Si was studied by a silicon array coupled with germanium clover detectors. Nine charged-particle groups are observed and most of them are recognized as $\beta$-delayed proton emission. A charged-particle group at 5600 keV is identified experimentally as $\beta$-delayed two-proton emission from the isobaric analog state of $^{22}$Al. Another charged-particle emission without any $\beta$ particle at the low energy less than 300 keV is observed. The half-life of $^{22}$Si is determined as 27.5 (18) ms. The experimental results of $\beta$-decay of $^{22}$Si are compared and in nice agreement with shell-model calculations. Abstract: Data quality is fundamentally important to ensure the reliability of data for stakeholders to make decisions. In real world applications, such as scientific exploration of extreme environments, it is unrealistic to require raw data collected to be perfect. As data miners, when it is infeasible to physically know the why and the how in order to clean up the data, we propose to seek the intrinsic structure of the signal to identify the common factors of multivariate data. Using our new data driven learning method, the common-factor data cleaning approach, we address an interdisciplinary challenge on multivariate data cleaning when complex external impacts appear to interfere with multiple data measurements. Existing data analyses typically process one signal measurement at a time without considering the associations among all signals. We analyze all signal measurements simultaneously to find the hidden common factors that drive all measurements to vary together, but not as a result of the true data measurements. We use common factors to reduce the variations in the data without changing the base mean level of the data to avoid altering the physical meaning.

Abstract: Surgical resection, combined therapies, and lymphadenectomy are extensively utilized in the treatment of patients with lung cancer. In the present study, we summarized the clinical data of patients with primary lung cancer after surgical resection alone or combined with adjuvant therapy, and evaluate the main factors influencing long-term survival.A retrospective review of 1,905 consecutive patients with primary lung cancer treated at the Cancer Institute of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences from March 1961 through December 1995 was performed. Statistical analysis was done using STATA software. The survival rate was estimated using the life-table method. Survival differences were performed using the log-rank test. The modified 1997 TNM staging system was used.There was a 12.28% morbidity rate and a 1.31% hospital mortality in our series. The 5-year survival rate for the complete resection was 49.5% and for the palliative resection 18.8% (p0.01). The 5-year survival rate was 72.0% in stage IA and 61.0% in stage IB (p0.05), 32.9% in stage IIA and 34.5% in stage IIB, 22.6% in stage IIIA and 15.9% in stage IIIB (p0.05), and 7.1% in stage IV.Multiple factors influence the long-term survival of patients with primary lung cancer after surgery. They include TNM staging, the extent of surgical resection (complete or palliative), resection margin (positive or negative), pathologic type of tumors, and type of resection.

Abstract: The Nd-150(3He,t) reaction at 140 MeV/u and Sm-150(t,He-3) reaction at 115 MeV/u were measured, populating excited states in Pm-150. The transitions studied populate intermediate states of importance for the (neutrinoless) beta beta decay of Nd-150 to Sm-150. Monopole and dipole contributions to the measured excitation-energy spectra were extracted by using multipole decomposition analyses. The experimental results were compared with theoretical calculations obtained within the framework of the quasiparticle random-phase approximation, which is one of the main methods employed for estimating the half-life of the neutrinoless beta beta decay (0 nu beta beta) of Nd-150. The present results thus provide useful information on the neutrino responses for evaluating the 0 nu beta beta and 2 nu beta beta matrix elements. The 2 nu beta beta matrix element calculated from the Gamow-Teller transitions through the lowest 1(+) state in the intermediate nucleus is maximally about half that deduced from the half-life measured in 2 nu beta beta direct counting experiments, and at least several transitions through 1+ intermediate states in Pm-150 are required to explain the 2 nu beta beta half-life. Because Gamow-Teller transitions in the Sm-150(t,3He) experiment are strongly Pauli blocked, the extraction of Gamow-Teller strengths was complicated by the excitation of the 2 (h) over bar omega, Lambda L = 0, Delta S = 1 isovector spin-flip giant monopole resonance (IVSGMR). However, the near absence of Gamow-Teller transition strength made it possible to cleanly identify this resonance, and the strength observed is consistent with the full exhaustion of the non-energy-weighted sum rule for the IVSGMR.

Abstract: The detailed analysis of wide excitation function of nuclear stopping has been studied within a transport model, Isospin-dependent Quantum Molecular Dynamics model (IQMD) and an overall good agreement with the INDRA and FOPI experimental data has been achieved. It is found that mean value of isotropy in central Heavy-Ion Collision (HIC) reaches a minimum near Fermi energy and approaches a maximum around 300 - 400$A$ MeV. This suggests that, in statistical average, the equilibration is far from being reached even in central HIC especially near Fermi energy. A hierarchy in stopping of fragments, which favors heavy fragments to penetrate, provides a robust restriction on the global trend of nuclear stopping and could serve as a probe for nuclear equation of state., Comment: 7 pages, 7 figures

Yields of $��$ rays are calculated and the centroid energy and dynamical dipole emission width of the $��$ spectra are extracted to investigate the properties of $��$ emission. In addition, sensitivities of dynamical dipole $��$-ray emission to the isospin and the symmetry energy coefficient of the equation of state are studied. Abstract: We synthesized the samples $Ba_{1-x}M_xFe_2As_2$ (M=La and K) with $ThCr_2Si_2$-type structure. These samples were systematically characterized by resistivity, thermoelectic power (TEP) and Hall coefficient ($R_H$). $BaFe_2As_2$ shows an anomaly in resistivity at about 140 K. Substitution of La for Ba leads to a shift of the anomaly to low temperature, but no superconducting transition is observed. Potassium doping leads to suppression of the anomaly in resistivity and induces superconductivity at 38 K as reported by Rotter et al.\cite{rotter}. The Hall coefficient and TEP measurements indicate that the TEP is negative for $BaFe_2As_2$ and La-doped $BaFe_2As_2$, indicating n-type carrier; while potassium doping leads to change of the sign in $R_H$ and TEP. It definitely indicates p-type carrier in superconducting $Ba_{1-x}K_xFe_2As_2$ with double FeAs layers, being in contrast to the case of $LnO_{1-x}F_xFeAs$ with single FeAs layer. Abstract: We synthesized Sr-doped $La_{0.85}Sr_{0.15}OFeAs$ sample with single phase, and systematically studied the effect of oxygen deficiency in the Sr-doped LaOFeAs system. It is found that substitution of Sr for La indeed induces the hole carrier evidenced by positive thermoelectric power (TEP), but no bulk superconductivity is observed. The superconductivity can be realized by annealing the as-grown sample in vacuum to produce the oxygen deficiency. With increasing the oxygen deficiency, the superconducting transition temperature ($T_c$) increases and maximum $T_c$ reaches about 26 K the same as that in La(O,F)FeAs. TEP dramatically changes from positive to negative in the nonsuperconducting as-grown sample to the superconducting samples with oxygen deficiency. While $R_H$ is always negative for all samples (even for Sr-doped as grown sample). It suggests that the $La_{0.85}Sr_{0.15}O_{1-\delta}FeAs$ is still electron-type superconductor., Comment: 4 pages, 4 figures

Abstract: Since the discovery of high-transition temperature ($T_c$) superconductivity in layered copper oxides, extensive efforts have been devoted to explore the higher $T_c$ superconductivity. However, the $T_c$ higher than 40 K can be obtained only in the copper oxide superconductors so far. The highest reported value of $T_c$ for non-copper-oxide bulk superconductivity is 39 K in $MgB_2$.\cite{jun} The $T_c$ of about 40 K is close to or above the theoretical value predicted from BCS theory.\cite{mcmillan} Therefore, it is very significant to search for non-copper oxide superconductor with the transition temperature higher than 40 K to understand the mechanism of high-$T_c$ superconductivity. Here we report the discovery of bulk superconductivity in samarium-arsenide oxides $SmFeAsO_{1-x}F_x$ with ZrCuAiAs type structure. Resistivity and magnetization measurements show strong evidences for transition temperature as high as 43 K. $SmFeAsO_{1-x}F_x$ is the first non-copper oxide superconductor with $T_c$ higher than 40 K. Abstract: The isothermal magnetoresistance (MR) with magnetic field (H) parallel to and perpendicular to ab plane is systematically studied on the single crystal Na$_{0.52}$CoO$_2$ with charge ordering at $\sim 50$ K and an in-plane ferromagnetism below 25 K. The isothermal MR behavior with H $\parallel$ ab plane and H $\perp$ ab plane is quite different. When H $\parallel$ ab plane, the MR is always negative and the in-plane ferromagnetic behavior is enhanced. While the MR with H $\perp$ ab plane changes from negative to positive with decreasing temperature or increasing H, and the in-plane ferromagnetic behavior is suppressed. A striking feature is that the MR with H $\perp$ ab plane shows a hysteresis behavior below 25 K, which is absent for the case of H $\parallel$ ab plane. These results provide strong evidence for a spin-flop transition of small moments of Co$^{3.5-��}$ sites induced by H $\perp$ ab plane, leading to a metamagnetic transition for small moments of Co$^{3.5-��}$ sites. These complex magnetism suggests an unconventional superconductivity in Na$_x$CoO$_2$ system because the Na$_x$CoO$_2$ around x=0.5 is considered to be the parent compound of superconductivity., 6 pages, 6 figures

Abstract: Isoscaling behavior of the statistical emission fragments from the equilibrated sources with $Z$ = 30 and $N$ = 30, 33, 36 and 39, resepectively, is investigated in the framework of isospin dependent lattice gas model. The dependences of isoscaling parameters $\alpha$ on source isospin asymmetry, temperature and freeze-out density are studied and the "symmetry energy" is deduced from isoscaling parameters. Results show that "symmetry energy" $C_{sym}$ is insensitive to the change of temperature but follows the power-law dependence on the freeze-out density $\rho$. The later gives $C_{sym}$ = 30$(\rho/\rho_0)^{0.62}$ if the suitable asymmetric nucleon-nucleon potential is taken. Abstract: The Glauber theory has been used to investigate the reaction cross section of proton-rich nucleus $^{23}$Al. A core plus a proton structure is assumed for $^{23}$Al. HO-type density distribution is used for the core while the density distribution for the valence proton is calculated by solving the eigenvalue problem of Woods-Saxon potential. The transparency function in an analytical expression is obtained adopting multi-Gaussian expansion for the density distribution. Coulomb correction and finite-range interaction are introduced. This modified Glauber model is apt for halo nuclei. Abstract: The Cryogenic Underground Observatory for Rare Events (CUORE) is a ton-scale neutrinoless double beta decay experiment based on cryogenic bolometers that is in the final stage of construction at the Gran Sasso National Laboratory (LNGS). CUORE is aimed at observing the neutrinoless double beta decay of 130Te and measuring the corresponding Majorana neutrino mass with a sensitivity close to the so-called inverted mass hierarchy region. CUORE-0 is the demonstrator of CUORE: a single CUORE-like tower, made of 52 TeO2 bolometers for a total mass of 39 kg. CUORE-0 started taking data in spring 2013 at LNGS and reached a total exposure of 9.8 kg y of 130Te. CUORE-0 significantly reduces the background and energy resolution of the previous experiment CUORICINO and sets the most stringent limit to date on neutrinoless double beta decay in 130Te. We will discuss in the following the physics results from CUORE-0 data and the status of the construction of CUORE.

Abstract: The Cryogenic Underground Observatory for Rare Events (CUORE) is a large-scale double beta decay experiment utilizing cryogenic bolometers that is currently being commissioned at the Gran Sasso National Laboratory (LNGS) in Italy. Its primary focus is to search for the neutrino-less double beta decay of 130Te with a projected sensitivity to Majorana neutrino masses near the inverted mass hierarchy region. The detector is composed of 988 5x5x5-cm3 TeO2 crystals of natural isotopic composition arranged in 19 towers of 52 crystals each, all housed in a common dilution refrigerator. A single CUORE-like tower, CUORE-0, was assembled and operated as a stand-alone detector for a period of approximately two years. In this report, the results from CUORE-0 and the current status and physics potential of CUORE are presented.
