This work aims to examine the idea of ‘presence’ as a form of quality of one’s being in the world by exploring some concepts that are connected to it, such as fullness, self-learning, time, well-being. We shall draw attention to certain pathways of thinking relating to how human subjects may live the experience more fully and with greater self-learning by referring to the psychoanalytical tradition, and to mindfulness and cognitive psychology, and the cognitive inputs which these disciplines supply, for instance, in studies on memory and learning. Whereas the majority of psychoanalytical tradition regards malaise (unwellness) as an anachronism, or as the hyper-presence of the past in its meeting with the present, the hypothesis of highlighting the presence to oneself as a form of opening and of fullness of the experience itself may lead to formulating theoretical bases, which we aim to discuss.

We evaluate the exposure of Italian regions to employment and the health risk associated with the spread of COVID-19. First, we estimate the degree of participation of Italian regions in a plurality of value chains linked to consumption, investment and exports. Second, we investigate the different levels of contagion risk associated with each value chain and the possibility of reducing such risk through remote work. We find that regions are affected differently by lockdown policies because of their highly heterogeneous embeddedness in different value chains, and their diverse sectoral contributions to each of them.

Nella conversazione presente vengono toccati alcuni temi che oggi sono al centro del dibattito sulla cura psicologica. A partire dagli stimoli che vengono posti in essere dai soggetti e dalle loro configurazioni relazionali nella contemporaneità delle domande di consultazione si propone l’opportunità di inserirle in una visione attualizzata della relazione fra famiglia e società ‘occidentale’. Pontalti propone poi alcune opzioni che ritiene opportune per dare risposta a questa forma della domanda di cura, particolarmente presente nelle famiglie attuali. La conversazione si estende però anche ad alcune tematiche educative, alle forme della genitorialità e alle conseguenze che queste opzioni teoriche e cliniche hanno sulla formazione degli psicoterapeuti oggi.

The CoViD-19 pandemic ceased to be describable by a susceptible-infected-recovered (SIR) model when lockdowns were enforced. We introduce a theoretical framework to explain and predict changes in the reproduction number of SARS-CoV-2 (Sudden Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2) in terms of individual mobility and interpersonal proximity (alongside other epidemiological and environmental variables) during and after the lockdown period. We use an infection-age structured model described by a renewal equation. The model predicts the evolution of the reproduction number up to a week ahead of well-established estimates used in the literature. We show how lockdown policies, via reduction of proximity and mobility, reduce the impact of CoViD-19 and mitigate the risk of disease resurgence. We validate our theoretical framework using data from Google, Voxel51, Unacast, The CoViD-19 Mobility Data Network, and Analisi Distribuzione Aiuti.

The unprecedented lockdown measures implemented by many countries in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic have created a need for tools to assess their economic costs. For this purpose, we present a novel dynamic input-output modelling framework which we apply to an estimation of the economic impact of lockdowns in Italy. Lockdown measures are treated as shocks to available labor supply, being calibrated on regional and sectoral employment data coupled with the prescriptions of the prime ministerial decrees mandating the closure of specific industries. Using input-output tables for the Italian regions, we estimate the model on data from the first lockdown during spring 2020 and then simulate it to assess the regional and sectoral impacts. We find that, despite the simplicity of our framework, the model is able to reproduce the observed dynamics during the lockdown-induced downturn and subsequent recovery fairly closely for most sectors. This ability to match the empirical data is also confirmed by a small out-of-sample forecasting exercise. We subsequently also simulate the second set of ‘softer’ lockdown measures implemented during autumn and winter of 2020 in order to evaluate their impact and compare them to the first, ‘hard’ lockdown. Overall, we believe the simplicity and parsimony of our framework make it suitable for providing quick and reasonably accurate evaluations of the economic effects of different lockdown measures.

We propose a mathematical description of a dynamic network model in which the number of links fluctuates over time according to the degree-preferences of nodes. More specifically, we consider the minimal case of a bipartite directed network where we have two groups of nodes, each group has nodes with a given capability to bear links. One group is composed of nodes that create as many links as possible, the generators. The other group is composed of nodes which delete as many links as possible, i.e., the destroyers. We provide here a novel analytical formulation of the evolution of the system through coupled master equations for the two interacting populations, recovering the steady state degree distributions and a new analytic description of the transient dynamics to the equilibrium. Further, fluctuations are shown to be connected to a peak in degree correlation at a critical point of the system corresponding to equal-size populations of generators and destroyers. We investigate the nature of the neighbor connectivity and the temporal assortativity of the network, noticing that degree correlation are anomalously large at criticality and that they are not a pointwise characterization of the system in time but they emerge as an aggregate temporal property. Moreover, we examine the bursty dynamics of the network as a temporal property where the system heterogeneously evolves over time alternating between periods of low and high connectivity displaying a heavy-tailed distribution in the inter-event times distributions. Finally, we introduce a generalization of the model in which intermittent states can control the velocity of the network’s evolution. We will also provide examples of possible economic applications of the present network model.

We present an analytical solution for the connectivity of a network model with a "non-simultaneous" linking scheme. Despite its simplicity, this model exhibits node-space correlations in the link distribution, and anomalous fluctuations behavior of the time series of the connectivity variable, and a finite-size e ff ect: the maximum number of links occurs away from the critical value of the system parameter. We derive an exact Master Equation for this model using a quantum algebra approach to stochastic processes. Fluctuations are much more important than the mean-field approximation predicts, which we attribute to the heterogeneity in the model. The maximal heterogeneous population corresponds to the critical value of the system. Finally as an explanatory case we evaluate the growth of the network value in relation with the system interconnectedness.

In this paper we study the implications of non-performing loans (NPLs) for financial stability using a network-based approach. We start by combining loan-level data from DealScan and firm-level data from Orbis to reconstruct the empirical global financial network in the period 1991-2016 and identify a series of stylized facts. Based on these findings, we develop a model in which two types of agents, banks and firms, are linked in a network by their reciprocal claims and analyze how an increase in NPLs affects the stability of the system. We study the model analytically and with numerical simulations, deriving a synthetic measure of systemic risk and quantifying the threshold level of NPLs that triggers a systemic crisis. Our model shows that there exist a level of connectivity that maximizes the fragility of the financial system and that small changes in the initial NPLs shock can have very different consequences at the aggregate level.

Estimation of the prevalence of undocumented SARS-CoV-2 infections is critical for understanding the overall impact of CoViD-19, and for implementing effective public policy intervention strategies. We discuss a simple yet effective approach to estimate the true number of people infected by SARS-CoV-2, using raw epidemiological data reported by official health institutions in the largest EU countries and the USA.

Il caso di Oliver, della serie tv In treatment, viene utilizzato per precisare meglio questa proposta teorico-clinica che, nata nell’ambito della psicoanalisi dell’adolescenza, viene sviluppata qui con una portata più generale.

Il testo traccia le linee generali di un modello di consultazione psicologica con l'adolescente che si rifŕ alla teoria del soggetto relazionale elaborata all'interno della Societŕ Italiana di Psicoanalisi della Relazione. Una volta richiamati i punti principali del pensiero teorico sull'etŕ adolescenziale che fa da retroterra alla clinica, viene declinata l'impostazione della consultazione a partire dalla concezione sistemica degli attori in campo, sia per la parte clinica che per quella dell'adolescente, il contesto, gli obiettivi. La consultazione viene assunta come momento centrale della clinica psicologica dell'etŕ adolescenziale e descritta in tutta la sua complessitŕ conoscitiva, decisionale, interattiva e dinamica. Viene proposta come un processo diagnostico e terapeutico che puň concludersi in sé o fare da premessa a sviluppi terapeutici diversificati co-costruiti sulle esigenze specifiche di quel sistema che ha al centro l'adolescente. Numerose esemplificazioni cliniche aiutano a comprendere le proposte tecniche.

This paper presents a stochastic discrete choice model with non-linear externalities and a related methodology to carry out inferential analysis on its parameters. Such framework allows to disentangle the role of the intrinsic features of alternatives from the effect of externalities in determining individual choices. The stochastic process underlying the model is demonstrated to be ergodic, so that numerical methods are adopted to estimate the parameters by Chi-square minimization and evaluate their statistical signicance. In particular, optimization rests on computational procedures that consider also iterative methods such as successive parabolic interpolation. Comparisons among various computational techniques and simulation implementations are analyzed. For completeness, the Chi-squared is compared to the approach of maximum likelihood optimization, underling the advantages of the first in this model.
