Polarimetric SAR Interferometry (Pol-InSAR) is a SAR remote sensing discipline with unique and powerful applications related to the vertical structure of natural and man-made volume scatterers. The coherent combination of single- or multi-baseline interferograms acquired at different polarisations provides sensitivity to the vertical distribution of scattering processes and allows their characterisation by using the associated (volume) interferometric coherences [1]–[5].

In this study, the large break loss of coolant accident (LBLOCA) analysis model is established by TRACE/SNAP code and the LBLOCA analysis results are compared with the Maanshan FSAR data. The main structure of this model includes the pressure vessel, pressurizer, steam generators, and safety injection of ECCS. In summary, the analysis results by TRACE LBLOCA model are consistent with FSAR data. The TRACE LBLOCA model of Maanshan NPP can be used in future safety analysis with confidence.

Two kinds of nanosize V(2)O(5) particles were synthesized in our own laboratory and concomitantly applied to V79 and L929 fibroblasts and SCCVII, B16F10 and FsaR tumor cells. The morphologies of the cells were monitored using an inverted inverse microscope equipped with digital camera, while quantitative determination of the cytotoxicity of nanosize V(2)O(5) particles was measured using crystal violet bioassay. Twenty four hours after the addition of nanosize V(2)O(5) particles (20muM), noticeable changes in the morphology and density of fibroblast and cancer cells were observed. Reculturing in a freshly prepared medium for the next 24h showed a high recovery effect on V79, SCCVII and B16F10 cells, while FsaR and L929 cells were seriously damaged and unable to recover. At a higher concentration of nanosize V(2)O(5) particles (100muM), the cytotoxicity of V(2)O(5) prevailed against the recovery effect in all cell types. Quantitative measurements have shown that the resistance of investigated cell cultures to the cytotoxicity of nanosize V(2)O(5) particles decreases in the order V79SCCVIIB16F10FsaRL929. The high cytotoxic effect found on FsaR cells suggests that nanosize V(2)O(5) particles could be regarded as poisoning material in the treatment of FsaR fibrosarcoma cells. Possible mechanisms involved in the cytotoxicity of nanosize V(2)O(5) particles were discussed.

Licensing requirements vary by country in terms of their scope, range of applicability and numerical values and may imply the use of system thermal hydraulic computer codes. Depending on the specific event scenario and on the purpose of the analysis, it might be required the availability of calculation methods that are not implemented in the standard system thermal hydraulic codes, as for burst temperature, burst strain and flow blockage calculations. This may imply the use of a dedicated fuel rod thermo-mechanical computer code, which can be coupled with thermal-hydraulic system and neutron kinetic codes to be used for the safety analysis. This paper describes the development and the application of a methodology for the analysis of the Large Break Loss of Coolant Accident (LB-LOCA) scenario in Atucha-2 Nuclear Power Plant (NPP), focusing on the procedure adopted for the use of the fuel rod thermo-mechanical code and its application for the safety analysis (Chapter 15 Final Safety Analysis Report, FSAR). The methodology implies the application of best estimate thermal-hydraulic, neutron physics and fuel pin performance computer codes, with the objective to verify the compliance with the specific acceptance criteria. The fuel pin performance code is applied with the main objective to evaluate the extent of cladding failures during the transient. A strong effort has been performed in order to enhance the fuel behaviour code capabilities and to improve the reliability of the code results.
