This study aims to examine information technology students' perceptions toward the use of virtual reality technology, their behavioral intention to use such technology for educational purposes, and the relationship between their perceptions toward the use of virtual reality technology and their behavioral intention to use virtual reality technology for educational purposes. The study used a descriptive and cross-sectional survey research design. The data collection tool was developed based on the second Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology UTAUT2 framework. Data were collected from participants using an online questionnaire. The number of participants was 147 undergraduate information technology students. The results showed that the participants had variations in their perceptions of virtual reality technology. The results showed that participants had positive perceptions of hedonic motivation and effort expectancy concerning the use of virtual reality. However, the students had close to neutral perceptions of performance expectancy, social influence, facilitating conditions, price value, and habits concerning the use of virtual reality. Furthermore, the results showed that the students had a positive behavioral intention to use virtual reality for educational purposes. Part of students' positive behavioral intention to use virtual reality for educational purposes can be ascribed to their perceptions of effort expectancy, performance expectancy, social influence, hedonic motivation, price value, facilitating conditions, and habits concerning the use of virtual reality. Students' perceptions of performance expectancy concerning virtual reality had the greatest effect on their behavioral intention to use virtual reality for educational purposes. Based on the findings, a set of recommendations was provided.

This communication proposes a basic software and hardware architecture of a controller for the X10 technology interface CM11A, oriented to the world of home automation. The implementation of the system is based in the use of programmable devices such as FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array). With this controller an end user will be able to control and to manage a set of devices distributed in a domotics space. Maintaining the quality of service (QOS) and controlling the network congestion are quite complicated tasks. They cause degrading the performance of the network, and disturbing the continuous communication process. To overcome these issues, one step towards this dilemma has been taken in form of Pre-congestion notification (PCN) technique. PCN uses a packet marking technique within a PCN domain over IP networks. It is notified by egress node that works as guard at entry point of network. Egress node gives feedback to communicating servers whether rate on the link is exceeded than configured admissible threshold or within the limit. Based on this feedback, admission decisions are taken to determine whether to allow/block new coming flows or terminate already accepted. The actual question is about selection of right algorithm for PCN domain. In this paper, we investigate the analytical behavior of some known PCN algorithms. We make slide modifications in originality of PCN algorithms without disquieting working process in order to employ those within similar types of scenarios. Our goal is to simulate them either in highly congested or less congested realistic scenarios. On the basis of simulation done in ns2, we are able to recommend each PCN algorithm for specific conditions. Finally, we develop a benchmark that helps researchers and scientific communities to pick the right algorithm. Transmission control protocol (TCP) is a connection oriented protocol for several types of distributed applications. TCP is reliable particularly for traditional fixed networks. With emergence of faster wireless networks, TCP has been performing poorly in its original format. The performance of TCP is affected due to assorted factors including congestion window, maximum packet size, retry limit, recovery mechanism, backup mechanism and mobility. To overcome deficiency of original TCP, Several modifications have been introduced to improve network quality. The mobility is a major hurdle in degrading the performance of mobile wireless networks. In this paper, we introduce and implement new TCP variant University of Bridgeport (UB) that combines the features of TCP Westwood and Vegas. We examine the performance of TCP-UB, Vegas and Westwood using different realistic scenarios. Mobile collaborative learning (MCL) is highly acknowledged and focusing paradigm in eductional institutions and several organizations across the world. It exhibits intellectual synergy of various combined minds to handle the problem and stimulate the social activity of mutual understanding. To improve and foster the baseline of MCL, several supporting architectures, frameworks including number of the mobile applications have been introduced. Limited research was reported that particularly focuses to enhance the security of those pardigms and provide secure MCL to users. The paper handles the issue of rogue DHCP server that affects and disrupts the network resources during the MCL. The rogue DHCP is unauthorized server that releases the incorrect IP address to users and sniffs the traffic illegally. The contribution specially provides the privacy to users and enhances the security aspects of mobile supported collaborative framework (MSCF). The paper introduces multi-frame signature-cum anomaly-based intrusion detection systems (MSAIDS) supported with novel algorithms through addition of new rules in IDS and mathematcal model. The major target of contribution is to detect the malicious attacks and blocks the illegal activities of rogue DHCP server. This innovative security mechanism reinforces the confidence of users, protects network from illicit intervention and restore the privacy of users. Wireless Multiuser receivers suffer from their relatively higher computational complexity that prevents widespread use of this technique. In addition, one of the main characteristics of multi-channel communications that can severely degrade the performance is the inconsistent and low values of SNR that result in high BER and poor channel capacity. It has been shown that the computational complexity of a multiuser receiver can be reduced by using the transformation matrix (TM) algorithm [4]. In this paper, we provide quantification of SNR based on the computational complexity of TM algorithm. We show that the reduction of complexity results high and consistent values of SNR that can consequently be used to achieve a desirable BER performance. In addition, our simulation results suggest that the high and consistent values of SNR can be achieved for a desirable BER performance. When faced with emergency situations there might be several critical factors that could preclude the possibility for the victims to call for the help. In situations like kidnapping, rape, robbery making use of the traditional voice based methods to call for the help might alert the offenders and put the victim’s life at a greater risk. This paper proposes an Emergency Response System (ERS), which focuses on developing an alternate mechanism through human computer interaction whereby the help can be called through a single press of a button and the locations of the callers are tracked in real time by the police vehicles. In the proposed system, the administrator can view the performance of all the police vehicles at any time through a web portal. The system used traditional data mining algorithms in order to analyze crimes in different areas of a city and at different times of the day. Based on this crime mapping, the administrator assigns patrol schedules for different police vehicles throughout the day. The proposed system would make it very easy for people to call for the help, and the police authorities to know the locations of the callers and identify crime hot spots and the administrator to keep track of the performance of each police vehicle.

Many solutions are emerging for the remote and continuous monitoring of unpredictable health problems, such as cardiac diseases. These are designed to be minimally invasive for health monitoring and based on smart and mobile technologies conformable to the human body, helping to improve considerably the autonomy and the quality of life of patients. Clearly, the correct functioning of these systems is very critical for the safety of patients, hence their practical application calls for stringent dependability requirements which need to be assessed against potential failure modes since the inception of the system, in its design phase. Despite the criticality of the problem, there is still little knowledge about the typical failures that may affect the correct functioning of these systems. Without such knowledge, it becomes difficult to devise effective countermeasures to failure events. To fill this gap, this paper proposes a Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA) for a typical mobile health monitoring system. Based on past results and extensive studies, the analysis allowed to identify the main failures, their consequences, and possible causes, affecting the functional components of modern health monitoring systems. © 2013 Springer Science+Business Media.

Testing task schedulers on Linux operating system proves to be a challenging task. There are two main problems. The first one is to identify which properties of the scheduler to test. The second problem is how to perform it, e.g., which API to use that is suffi-ciently precise and in the same time supported on most platforms. This paper discusses the problems in realizing test framework for testing task schedulers and presents one potential solution. Observed behavior of the scheduler is the one used for “normal” task scheduling (SCHED_OTHER), unlike one used for real-time tasks (SCHED_FIFO, SCHED_RR).

Typical terrorist cells/networks have dynamical structure as they evolve or adapt to changes which may occur due to capturing or killing of a member of the cell/network. Analytical measures in graph theory like degree centrality, betweenness and closeness centralities are very common and have long history oftheir successful use in revealing the importance of various members of the network. However, modeling of covert, terrorist or criminal networks through social graph dose not really provide the hierarchical structure which exist in these networks as these networks are composed of leaders and followers etc. In this research we analyze and predict the most likely role a particular node can adapt once a member of the network is either killed or caught. The adaptation is based on computing Bayes posteriori probability of each node and the level of the said node in the network structure.

Connectivity and physical mobility requirements for industrial applications have brought an exponential growth in wireless systems. In a production factory parameters like temperature, humidity level, vibration level and light etc., are to be monitored and controlled. In this study we provide a complete prototype wireless solution for such industrial applications through Bluetooth. A prototype system with a user interface is build and interfaced with a process model to monitor and control its parameters. The required driver software is also written for the communication between user interface and the plant. MSP430 microcontroller from Texas Instruments and Merlin BlueCOM embedded module are used in our implementation design. The communication is established between micro-controller MSP430 which continuously transmit/receive data from different sensors like temperature, air pressure, light and humidity of the process model and communicates via BlueCOM embedded module to the operator station (PC) using Bluetooth dongle. The idea is to use a BlueCOM module in an industrial plant to implement a cheaper and reliable system for monitoring and controlling the parameters efficiently. Our system provides excellent quality of service by utilizing the resources efficiently.

Half a decade has passed since the objectives and benefits of autonomic computing were stated, yet even the latest system designs and deployments exhibit only limited and isolated elements of autonomic functionality. From an autonomic computing standpoint, all computing systems – old, new or under development – are legacy systems, and will continue to be so for some time to come. In this paper, we propose a generic architecture for developing fully-fledged autonomic systems out of legacy, non-autonomic components, and we investigate how existing technologies can be used to implement this architecture.

With the growing popularity of mobile devices (including phones and portable media players) and coverage of Internet access, we tend to develop the need of consuming video content on the move. Some technologies already allow end-users to watch TV and listen to news podcasts or download music videos on their devices. However, such services are restricted to a provider’s selection of pre-formatted and linear content streams. Hence, we propose a web-based interface system that supports interactive contents navigation, making it possible for end-users to “surf” on video content like they are used to on the Web. This system is extensible to any specific domain of video contents, any web-enabled platform, and to any browsing scheme. In this paper, we will explain the architecture and design of this system, propose an application for soccer videos and present the results of its user evaluation.
