With the advent of the Internet age, the era of digital economy is drawing closer to us, and it has brought significant changes to our lives, providing us with many conveniences. However, it has also brought about the impact of wealth disparity, commonly known as the digital divide, which refers to the polarization of poverty and affluence caused by the disparities in the access and application of network technology. Using the 2017 China Household Finance Survey (CHFS) data, this study investigates the extent to which the digital divide affects household participation in financial markets. The findings suggest that the digital divide significantly reduces household participation in financial markets. Furthermore, this study divides the financial market into low-risk and high-risk markets and explores the impact of the digital divide on each of them. It is found that the digital divide significantly inhibits participation in both low-risk and high-risk financial markets, with a more pronounced impact on the latter. Additionally, this study explores the mechanism through which the digital divide affects participation in financial markets, revealing that the digital divide reduces household income and consequently decreases their participation in financial markets. This study provides insights into the relationship between the digital divide and household participation in financial markets, sheds light on the negative impacts of the digital divide, and offers useful information for households in making decisions regarding participation in financial markets.

Purpose. The current study was designed to investigate the impact of blood urea nitrogen (BUN), serum uric acid (UA), and cystatin (CysC) on the short-term outcomes and prognosis of colorectal cancer (CRC) patients undergoing radical surgery. Methods. CRC patients who underwent radical resection were included from Jan 2011 to Jan 2020 in a single clinical centre. The short-term outcomes, overall survival (OS), and disease-free survival (DFS) were compared in different groups. A Cox regression analysis was conducted to identify independent risk factors for OS and DFS. Results. A total of 2047 CRC patients who underwent radical resection were included in the current study. Patients in the abnormal BUN group had a longer hospital stay ( p = 0.002 ) and more overall complications ( p = 0.001 ) than that of the normal BUN group. The abnormal CysC group had longer hospital stay ( p < 0.01 ), more overall complications ( p = p < 0.01 ), and more major complications ( p = 0.001 ) than the normal CysC group. Abnormal CysC was associated with worse OS and DFS for CRC patients in tumor stage I ( p < 0.01 ). In Cox regression analysis, age ( p < 0.01 , HR = 1.041, 95% CI = 1.029–1.053), tumor stage ( p < 0.01 , HR = 2.134, 95% CI = 1.828–2.491), and overall complications ( p = 0.002 , HR = 1.499, 95% CI = 1.166–1.928) were independent risk factors for OS. Similarly, age ( p < 0.01 , HR = 1.026, 95% CI = 1.016–1.037), tumor stage ( p < 0.01 , HR = 2.053, 95% CI = 1.788–2.357), and overall complications ( p = 0.002 , HR = 1.440, 95% CI = 1.144–1.814) were independent risk factors for DFS. Conclusion. In conclusion, abnormal CysC was significantly associated with worse OS and DFS at TNM stage I, and abnormal CysC and BUN were related to more postoperative complications. However, preoperative BUN and UA in the serum might not affect OS and DFS for CRC patients who underwent radical resection.

Background: Fast dose calculation is critical for online and real-time adaptive therapy workflows. While modern physics-based dose algorithms must compromise accuracy to achieve low computation times, deep learning models can potentially perform dose prediction tasks with both high fidelity and speed. Purpose: We present a deep learning algorithm that, exploiting synergies between transformer and convolutional layers, accurately predicts broad photon beam dose distributions in few milliseconds. Methods: The proposed improved Dose Transformer Algorithm (iDoTA) maps arbitrary patient geometries and beam information (in the form of a 3D projected shape resulting from a simple ray tracing calculation) to their corresponding 3D dose distribution. Treating the 3D CT input and dose output volumes as a sequence of 2D slices along the direction of the photon beam, iDoTA solves the dose prediction task as sequence modeling. The proposed model combines a Transformer backbone routing long-range information between all elements in the sequence, with a series of 3D convolutions extracting local features of the data. We train iDoTA on a dataset of 1700 beam dose distributions, using 11 clinical volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT) plans (from prostate, lung, and head and neck cancer patients with 194–354 beams per plan) to assess its accuracy and speed. Results: iDoTA predicts individual photon beams in ≈50 ms with a high gamma pass rate of (Formula presented.) (2 mm, 2%). Furthermore, estimating full VMAT dose distributions in 6–12 s, iDoTA achieves state-of-the-art performance with a (Formula presented.) (2 mm, 2%) pass rate and an average relative dose error of 0.75 ± 0.36%. Conclusions: Offering the millisecond speed prediction per beam angle needed in online and real-time adaptive treatments, iDoTA represents a new state of the art in data-driven photon dose calculation. The proposed model can massively speed-up current photon workflows, reducing calculation times from few minutes to just a few seconds.

The purpose of this study was to explore whether metabolic syndrome (MetS) affects the prognosis of colorectal cancer (CRC) patients after primary surgery and to analyze the effect of the specific components of MetS on CRC prognosis.The PubMed, Embase and Cochrane Library databases were searched from inception to July 29, 2021. Overall survival (OS) and disease-free survival (DFS) were compared between the MetS group and the non-MetS group.The studies included in the meta-analysis included 4773 patients. All seven studies compared OS between the two groups, and after pooling all hazard ratios (HRs), no significant difference was found between the MetS group and the non-MetS group (HR = 1.17, 95% CI = 0.91 to 1.49,MetS may not affect the prognosis of CRC after primary surgery. However, high fasting plasma glucose levels might contribute to poor OS.

When the contacts of medium-voltage DC air circuit breaker (DCCB) are separated, the energy distribution of arc is determined by the formation process of near electrode sheath. So, the voltage drop through the near electrode sheath is an important means to build-up the arc voltage, which determines the current-limiting performance of the DCCB directly. A numerical model describing the near electrode sheath formation process can provide insight into the physical mechanism of the arc formation and thus provide a method for arc energy regulation. In this work, a two-dimensional axisymmetric time-varying model of a medium-voltage DCCB arc when high-current interrupted was established based on a fluidchemical model involving 16 kinds of species and 47 collision reactions. The transient distributions of electron number density, positive and negative ion number density, net space charge density, axial electric field, axial potential between electrodes and near cathode sheath were obtained from the numerical model. The computational results show that the electron density in the arc column increases, then decreases, and then stabilizes during the near cathode sheath formation process, and the arc column diameter gradually becomes wider. The 11.14–12.33 V drops along the 17 µm space charge layer away from the cathode (65.5–72.5 kV/m) when the current is verying from 20–80 kA. The homogeneous external magnetic field has little effect on the distribution of particles in the near cathode sheath core, but the electron number density at the near cathode sheath periphery can increase with the magnetic field increasing and the homogeneous external magnetic field will lead to arc diffusion. The validity of the numerical model can be proved by comparison with the experiment.

Objective The aim of this study was to use radiomics analysis of multiphase computed tomography (CT) imaging to develop and validate machine learning models that can accurately differentiate between lipid-poor adrenal adenoma (LPA) and subclinical pheochromocytoma (sPHEO) to improve the accuracy of preoperative diagnosis of the two.Methods A retrospective analysis was performed on 134 patients who underwent abdominal multiphase spiral CT scans in three local tertiary hospitals between March 2015 and November 2022. The analysis included 74 cases of LPA (52 at our hospital and 22 at other hospitals) and 60 cases of sPHEO (44 at our hospital and 16 at other hospitals), all of which were surgically and pathologically confirmed. Tumors were delineated using 3D Slicer and radiomics were extracted using PyRadiomics, a plug-in to the software. Cases from internal hospital were randomly split into training and test sets in a 7:3 ratio, while all cases from external hospitals were used as the validation set. The T-test and the minimum absolute contraction and selection operator (LASSO) were used to reduce the dimensionality of the data. Then six dichotomous models were developed, including k-nearest neighbor (KNN), logistic regression (LR), decision tree (DT), random forest (RF), support vector machine (SVM), and multi-layer perceptron (MLP). The diagnostic performance of each model was evaluated using the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve and the area under the curve (AUC). The ROC curves of the test and validation sets were compared using DeLong's method to determine the most effective model for distinguishing between LPA and sPHEO.Results A total of 902 rows and 112 columns of radiomic feature data were extracted from multiple phases and slice-thickness CT data. After dimensionality reduction processing, 13 - dimensional radiomic feature data was obtained. The six binary models demonstrated good diagnostic performance for each phase and slice thickness, as well as for the entire CT data, with AUC values ranging from 0.706 to 1. Among these models, RF, SVM, and MLP showed particularly good diagnostic performance. The ROC curves of RF, SVM, and MLP did not show a statistically significant difference (p Conclusions The CT radiomics-based machine learning model was able to differentiate between LPA and sPHEO well, even using non-contrast CT data alone to efficiently discriminate between the two.

Purpose The aim of this study was to analyze the effect of preoperative bicarbonate and lactate levels (LL) on the short-term outcomes and prognosis in elderly (≥ 65 years) patients with colorectal cancer (CRC). Methods We collected the information of CRC patients from Jan 2011 to Jan 2020 in a single clinical center. According to the results of preoperative blood gas analysis, we divided patients into the higher/lower bicarbonate group and the higher/lower lactate group, and compared their baseline information, surgery-related information, overall survival (OS) and disease-free survival (DFS). Results A total of 1473 patients were included in this study. Pueraria lobata (Willd.) Ohwi (PL) has been used in China to detoxify alcohol and protect the liver for millennia, though its mechanism of liver protection has not been elucidated. However, fermentation is considered to be one of the effective ways to enhance the efficacy of traditional Chinese medicine. The aim of this study was to investigate the hepatoprotective mechanism of probiotic-fermented PL (FPL). Sprague Dawley rats were administered with FPL followed by gavage of alcohol for seven consecutive days; following that, liver injury levels were evaluated in rats.FPL ameliorated lipid accumulation and inflammation levels in rats. Meanwhile, the levels of ethanol dehydrogenase, acetaldehyde dehydrogenase, and cytochrome P4502E1 were elevated by FPL treatment. It was observed that the levels of catalase, superoxide dismutase, and glutathione peroxidase were elevated, and the expression of nuclear transcriptional factor (erythroid-derived 2)-like 2 (Nrf2) and heme oxygenase-1 genes and proteins were increased by FPL treatment, demonstrating that the Nrf2-mediated signal pathway was activated. Furthermore, FPL restored the composition of the gut microbiota with an increase in the abundances of Firmicutes and Lactobacillus and a decrease in the abundances of Bacteroidota and Akkermansia. Additionally, a strong correlation was found between the gut microbiota and the antioxidant parameters.The results indicate that FPL possesses an excellent protective effect in alcoholic liver injury. Our findings are beneficial to the development of hepatoprotective nutraceuticals for alcoholics. © 2022 Society of Chemical Industry.

The effect of chronic kidney disease (CKD) on the outcomes of colorectal cancer (CRC) patients after primary CRC surgery is controversial.To analyze whether CKD had specific effect on the outcomes after CRC surgery.We searched the PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library databases and CNKI, from inception to March 14, 2022. Newcastle-Ottawa Scale was used for the quality assessment in this meta-analysis, and we used RevMan 5.3 was used for data analysis.A total of nine studies including 47771 patients were eligible for this meta-analysis. No significant difference was found in terms of overall postoperative complications [odds ratio (OR) = 1.78, 95%CI: 0.64-4.94,Preexisting CKD was associated with higher rates of pulmonary infection, higher rates of short-term death, and worse OS and poorer DFS following CRC surgery.

Tibial cortex transverse transport (TTT) surgery is an extension of the Ilizarov technique. Based on the law of tension-stress, its primary function is to rebuild microcirculation which can relieve ischemic symptoms and promote wound healing. It has received more and more scholars' attention and has experienced a series of changes for 20 years since it entered PR China. The mechanisms involved have gradually become clear, such as the reconstruction of the polarization balance of macrophages, the promotion of vascular tissue regeneration, and the mobilization and regulation of bone marrow-derived stem cells. TTT technique is mainly used in the treatment of chronic ischemic diseases of the lower extremities. It has recently been successfully used in the treatment of primary lymphedema of the lower extremities. A series of improvements have been made in the external fixator's style, the size of skin incision and osteotomy, and distraction method. For example, the annular external fixator has been redesigned as a unilateral external fixator, and accordion technology has been introduced. For distraction methods after surgery, there was no uniform standard in the past. The technique can also be used in combination with other treatments to achieve better effects, such as interventional therapy, negative pressure sealed drainage, 3D printing technology, traditional Chinese medicine. Nevertheless, the surgery may bring some complications, such as secondary fracture, nail infection, skin necrosis at the surgical site, etc. Reports of complications and doubts about the technique have made the TTT technique controversial. In 2020, the relevant expert consensus was published with treatment and management principles, which might guide the better application and development of this technique.

In patients with implant-supported restorations, intrusion rarely occurs in nonconnected natural teeth. This clinical report describes the intrusion of a natural tooth located between 2 implant-supported crowns after 4 months of normal function. The second premolar was intruded by 3 mm. The intrusion was completely reversed after interproximal contact adjustments, and the tooth position was stable at the 7-year follow-up.

The lung is the most common extra-abdominal metastasis site of colorectal cancer (CRC). This study aimed to investigate the genetic variation of pulmonary metastases (PM) and primary tumors in resectable CRC. The clinical data of 410 patients with PM after CRC surgery and 33 paraffin-embedded tissue samples from January 2012 to July 2019 in our hospital were collected retrospectively. Next, 450-panel gene detection technologies based on next-generation sequencing (NGS) were used to analyze the changes in the gene map and the overall variation in cancer-related genes in PM and primary tumors. After quality control, 19 samples were included in the final gene analysis. The results showed that APC (89.5%), TP53 (89.5%), and KRAS (53%) were the most common mutations in PM and primary tumors, but the gene amplification variation was enriched in primary tumors (4.6% vs. 11.4%). KRAS G12D was the most common site variation of the KRAS gene in both PM and primary tumors of CRC. There was no hotspot mutation in the TP53 locus in CRC, and the TP53 mutation in the PM was consistent with that in the primary lesion. The microsatellite instability (MSI) levels of 10 patients were MSS. The mean tumor mutation burden (TMB) of the primary tumor (5.3 muts·Mb−1) was slightly higher than that of metastasis (5.0 muts·Mb−1). In our institution, the genetic characteristics of resectable PM from CRC may be highly consistent with those of the primary tumor.

The purpose of enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) was to reduce surgical pressure and accelerate postoperative functional recovery. Although the application of biologics in treating inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) has changed treatment strategies, most patients with IBD still require surgery.To evaluate the advantage of ERAS in IBD surgery.The PubMed, EMBASE and Cochrane Library databases were searched from inception to March 21, 2021 to find eligible studies. The primary outcome was postoperative complications, and the secondary outcomes included operation time, time to first flatus, time to bowel movement, postoperative hospital stay and readmission. The PROSPERO registration ID of this meta-analysis is CRD42021238052.A total of eight studies involving 1939 patients were included in this meta-analysis. There were no differences in baseline information between the ERAS group and the non-ERAS group. After pooling up all of the data, no significant difference was found between the ERAS group and the non-ERAS group in terms of postoperative overall complications [odds ratio = 0.82, 95% confidence interval (CI) = 0.66 to 1.02,ERAS was effective for the quicker recovery in IBD surgery and did not lead to increased complications.

Background. Tetramethylpyrazine (TMP), a potent anti-free radical and anti-inflammations substance, has been demonstrated to possess a direct vessel relaxation property. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of TMP treatment in pulmonary hypertension (PH) and test the hypothesis that TMP prevents or reverses the process of PH. Methods. Rats (n = 36) injected with 50 mg/kg of monocrotaline (MCT) subcutaneously 4 weeks to develop PH were then randomized to TMP (5 mg/kg per day) for another 4 weeks. Hemodynamics was evaluated via the right ventricle. Pulmonary vessels structural remodeling and inflammation were examined by histologic and transmission electron microscopy observation. The expression of inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) and cGMP-dependent protein kinases 1 (PKG-1) was detected by immunohistochemical staining and Western blot. Generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and antioxidation species was measured by biochemical analyses. Results. MCT increased PH and right ventricle hypertrophy. TMP alleviated pulmonary arterial pressure elevation, leukocyte infiltration, and structural remodeling of pulmonary arterials induced by MCT successfully. TMP treatment significantly increased the PKG-1 expression and suppressed the iNOS expression. The activity of superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione peroxidase (GSH), and catalase (CAT) was significantly higher than control group, while malondialdehyde (MDA) levels were lower compared with MCT group. Conclusion. TMP can suppress established MCT-induced PH through the ROS/iNOS/PKG axis. The underlying mechanisms may be associated with its anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antiproliferative properties in pulmonary arterial.

The purpose of the current study is to identify the predictors of planned and unplanned admission to intensive care units (ICU) after colorectal cancer (CRC) surgery.We retrospectively collected CRC patients' information from January 2016 to June 2021 in a single clinical center. The predictors of planned and unplanned admission to ICU after CRC surgery were analyzed.A total of 4263 patients were included in this study and there were 349 (8.2%) CRC patients who were admitted to ICU. There were 34 (9.7%) CRC patients in unplanned ICU admission group and 315 (90.3%) CRC patients in planned ICU admission group. Older age (p 0.01, OR = 1.093, 95% CI = 1.079-1.108), male (p = 0.013, OR = 0.721, 95% CI = 0.557-0.933), lower body mass index (BMI) (p = 0.001, OR = 0.932, 95% CI = 0.896-0.971), type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) (p = 0.035, OR = 1.422, 95% CI = 1.024-1.975), coronary heart disease (CHD) (p = 0.036, OR = 1.579, 95% CI = 1.031-2.420), colon cancer (p = 0.002, OR = 1.475, 95% CI = 1.149-1.894), advanced tumor stage (p = 0.003, OR = 1.265, 95% CI = 1.082-1.478), longer operation time (p = 0.005, OR = 1.002, 95% CI = 1.001-1.003), and larger blood loss (p 0.01, OR = 1.002, 95% CI = 1.001-1.002) were independent predictors of planned ICU admission. Older age (p 0.01, OR = 1.062, 95% CI = 1.029-1.097) and longer operation time (p = 0.003, OR = 1.004, 95% CI = 1.001-1.007) were independent predictors of unplanned ICU admission.Cautions should be paid for CRC patients with predictive factors to avoid unnecessary ICU admission.

Morinda officinalis (M. officinalis) polysaccharides are valuable ingredients with various bioactive functions. This work aimed to investigate whether fermentation could enhance the bioactivities of M. officinalis polysaccharides. A strain of Bacillus sp. DU-106 was introduced to ferment M. officinalis. Two polysaccharides (namely NMP-1 and FMP-1) were isolated from raw M. officinalis and fermented M. officinalis, respectively. The structure, immunoregulatory, and antioxidant activities of NMP-1 and FMP-1 were investigated. Bacillus sp. DU-106 fermentation changed the monosaccharide composition and conformation of M. officinalis polysaccharides. After fermentation, FMP-1 dramatically stimulated IL-1β secretion in RAW 264.7 macrophages. In vitro, Bacillus sp. DU-106 fermentation of M. officinalis enhanced the DPPH radical, hydroxyl radical, and superoxide anion scavenging activities. In vivo, FMP-1 extended the lifespan and ameliorated oxidative injury of Caenorhabditis elegans. Collectively, Bacillus sp. DU-106 fermentation significantly enhanced the immunoregulatory and antioxidant activities of M. officinalis polysaccharides.

PurposeThe aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of carbon nanoparticles staining (CNS) on colorectal cancer (CRC) surgery, lymph node tracing and postoperative complications using propensity score matching (PSM).MethodPatients who were diagnosed with CRC and underwent surgery were retrospectively collected from a single clinical center from Jan 2011 to Dec 2021. Baseline characteristics, surgical information and postoperative information were compared between the CNS group and the non-CNS group. PSM was used to eliminate bias.ResultsA total of 6,886 patients were enrolled for retrospective analysis. There were 2,078 (30.2%) patients in the CNS group and 4,808 (69.8%) patients in the non-CNS group. After using 1: 1 ratio PSM to eliminate bias, there were 2,045 patients left in each group. Meanwhile, all of their baseline characteristics were well matched and there was no statistical significance between the two groups (P > 0.05). In terms of surgical information and short-term outcomes, the CNS group had less intraoperative blood loss (P P P P = 0.013), more total retrieved lymph nodes (P P = 0.011) and less postoperative overall complications (P P = 0.004), shorter postoperative hospital stay (P P P > 0.05).ConclusionPreoperative CNS could help the surgeons detect more lymph nodes, thus better determining the patient's N stage. Furthermore, it could reduce intraoperative blood loss and reduce the hospital stay.

Purpose The current study was to evaluate the effect of the preoperative serum lactate dehydrogenase-to-albumin ratio (LAR) on the short-term outcomes and overall survival (OS) of patients with gastric cancer (GC) who received surgery. Methods GC patients who underwent gastrectomy at a single clinical medical center were enrolled and were divided into the low and the high LAR groups by LAR cutoff (12.8). The baseline information, short-term outcomes, and OS were compared between the two groups. Cox regression analysis was performed to identify independent risk factors for OS. The Kaplan-Meier method was used to estimate the OS between the two groups in different tumor stages. Results A total of 570 patients were included for analysis. As for baseline information, we found that the high LAR group had older patients (PConclusion LAR was not an independent factor of OS. However, LAR might affect the prognosis of stage II GC.

BackgroundColorectal cancer (CRC) ranks third in highest incidence among human cancers. With the continuous development of anti-cancer drugs, CRC patients are treated more and more effectively. However, the treatment of patients with unresectable metastatic CRC (mCRC) remains a core point for surgeons worldwide, especially for those with microsatellite stability (MSS) and BRAF V600E mutation, who have been reported to have the worst prognosis.Case descriptionWe report a case of pathological complete remission in a patient with unresectable MSS, BRAF V600E-mutated metastatic rectal cancer after using Vemurafenib and Cetuximab in combination with Camrelizumab.ConclusionsThis case suggested that Vemurafenib and Cetuximab combined with Camrelizumab is effective in the treatment of MSS, BRAF V600E-mutated mCRC. To benefit more patients, further studies need to be completed.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the short-term outcomes after simultaneous gastrectomy plus cholecystectomy in gastric cancer patients. PUBMED, EMBASE, and the Cochrane Library were searched from inception to Apr 15, 2021. Short-term surgical outcomes were compared between the simultaneous gastrectomy plus cholecystectomy group and the gastrectomy only group. Five retrospective studies with 3,315 patients and 1 randomized controlled trial with 130 patients were included. There was no significant difference in age, sex, surgical methods, or reconstruction. In terms of short-term outcomes, no significance was found in postoperative complications (odds ratio, OR = 1.08, I 2 = 24%, 95% CI = 0.78–1.50, P = 0.65), postoperative biliary complications (OR = 0.98, I 2 = 0%, 95% CI = 0.43–2.25, P = 0.96), mortality (OR = 1.28, I 2 = 0%, 95% CI = 0.49–3.37, P = 0.61), and postoperative hospital stay (MD = −0.10, I 2 = 0%, 95% CI = −0.73–0.54, P = 0.77) between the two groups. Simultaneous gastrectomy plus cholecystectomy in gastric cancer patients is safe and does not increase the short-term outcomes.

Knee joint distraction is a new technology for the treatment of knee osteoarthritis in recent years. It could reduce knee pain and improve knee function, which is inseparable from the role of cartilage repair. The mechanism and influencing factors of knee joint distraction in repairing cartilage are the focus of current research. In this paper, the author reviewed literature and found that knee joint distraction could reduce knee joint load and provide a appropriate mechanical environment for cartilage repair, and it is resulting hydrostatic pressure fluctuation in the knee joint not only helps cartilage to absorb nutrients, but also promotes cartilage formation genes and inhibits cartilage matrix degrading enzyme gene expression. In addition, knee joint distraction creates conditions for synovial mesenchymal stem cells to be collected to cartilage injury, and improves ability of synovial mesenchymal stem cells to proliferate and differentiate into a chondrogenic lineage. Knee joint distraction could reduce inflammatory reaction and cartilage injury of knee joint by reducing content of inflammatory factors and inhibiting expression of inflammatory genes. At present, it is known that the factors affect repair of cartilage by knee joint distraction include, increasing weight-bearing activity and height and time of distraction is helpful for cartilage repair, male patients and patients with higher severity of knee osteoarthritis have better cartilage repair effect after knee joint distraction.The better efficacy of cartilage repair on the first year after knee joint distraction predicts a higher long-term survival rate of knee joint distraction with knee preservation. However, the research on the above hot spots is only at the initial stage and further exploration is still needed, in order to better guide clinical application of knee joint distraction.

Arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy (ARVC) is a familial inherited cardiomyopathy associated with ventricular arrhythmias. With the development of molecular biology, histology, imaging, and other diagnostic techniques, the diagnosis rate and incidence of ARVC have gradually increased. However, ARVC remains rare in clinical practice. Currently, there is no specific treatment to eliminate arrhythmia. In this case report, we describe a clinical case of radiofrequency ablation in the treatment of ARVC with ventricular tachycardia and discuss the relevant literature.

Caffeinated energy drinks are commonly taken to improve exercise performance, but there are few studies on the influence of different doses on an athlete’s performance. We conducted a double-blind, randomized, counter-balanced, and crossover research study to examine the effects of low caffeinated energy drink (Low ED) or high caffeinated energy drink (High ED) supplement on the performance, haematological response, and oxidative stress in triathletes. Twelve male participants underwent three testing sessions separated by weekly intervals, consisting of sprint triathlon training (0.75 km swim, 20 km cycle, and 5 km run). Before and during the trials, participants were randomly provided with either placebo (PLA) group, Low ED group, or High ED group. Exercise performance in the High ED group decreased significantly compared with the PLA and Low ED groups (p < 0.05). However, participants in the Low ED group also experienced an improved performance (p = 0.054). Analysis of variance revealed no differences among the three groups in cortisol and testosterone levels, or the Borg Rating of Perceived Exertion score (p > 0.5). Furthermore, superoxide dismutase (SOD) was reduced with exercise and were lowest in the High ED group. However, compared with PLA, a significant decrease of thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) was observed in Low ED and High ED groups (p < 0.05). This indicates that caffeinated energy drink consumption may improve performance and reduce oxidative stress in sprint triathlon athletes. However, individual differences should be considered when supplementing with caffeinated energy drinks to decrease side effects.

BackgroundGastric transcatheter chemoembolization (GTC) is an interventional minimal invasive method, which has never been mentioned in the previous literature for advanced gastric cancer with obstruction. The purpose of this study was to evaluate its safety and efficacy in treating advanced gastric cancer with obstruction.MethodsAdvanced gastric cancer patients with obstruction who underwent GTC were retrospectively analysed from June 2017 to January 2020. Baseline information, peri-intervention data, and post-intervention follow-up information were collected. Clinical data obtained before and after the GTC were compared, and the survival of all patients was analysed.ResultForty-Two patients were included in this study. 42 (100%) patients achieved technical success, and 22 (52.4%) achieved clinical success. The median time of the GTC was 83 (30.0–180.0) minutes, and the median time of hospitalization after GTC was 3 (1–6) days. One patient experienced abdominal pain during and after GTC. Twenty (47.6%) of the 42 patients underwent gastrectomy after intervention. The pre-intervention gastric outlet obstruction scoring system (GOOSS) was 1 (0–1) and the post-intervention GOOSS was 2 (0–3) (p = 0.000 p = 0.014 ConclusionsGTC is a safe and effective treatment, and furthermore, it could be an alternative method in treating advanced gastric cancer with obstruction.

This review summarizes the definition and surgical methods of oncometabolic surgery according to previous studies. Then, the authors discuss the beneficial effects observed after gastrectomy in gastric cancer (GC) patients with concurrent hypertension or type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). The authors summarize the current studies analyzing the remission rate and the hypotheses of the mechanisms underlying these effects. The remission rate ranged from 42.5%-65.4% in T2DM patients and from 11.1%-57.6% among those with hypertension. Furthermore, the remission of T2DM could have an impact on overall survival rates as well. The mechanisms underlying the remission of hypertension and T2DM is unclear in current studies, but oncometabolic surgery is expected to be applied in clinical practice. In addition, the effect of oncometabolic surgery on other chronic metabolic comorbidities is expected to be proven in further studies. Therefore, the purpose of this review is to discuss the effects of oncometabolic surgery reported in current studies with a primary focus on the remission of hypertension and T2DM after gastrectomy in GC patients. The possibility of the remission of other metabolic comorbidities in GC patients who undergo oncometabolic surgery is also discussed.

Isolated microspore culture (IMC) is a powerful single cell system with many advantages compared with other culturing methods for Brassica species. For nearly 40 years, numerous studies have explored the influencing factors on the isolated microspore process, the ability of microspore-derived embryos (MDEs) to germinate and develop into plantlets, and the process of plant regeneration in Brassica species. In this review, the influencing factors, changes in gene expression, and the physiological and biochemical changes during the procedure are discussed at length. Ultimately, this review presents a standard protocol to improve the efficiency of IMC in Brassica haploid and double haploid (DH) production technologies.
