The industrialization of perovskite solar cells (PSC) require processes to efficiently deposit the constituent layers over large areas. In this work we optimized the use of slot die coating process for both sheet-to-sheet (S2S) and roll-to-roll (R2R) manufacturing. Particular focus have been put on the control of the uniformity of perovskite crystallization by tailoring the ink formulation and the drying process in order to avoid any efficiency losses over an area increase of 3 orders of magnitude (from 0.09 to 144 cm2). In this way we were able to fabricate 144 cm2 modules with 13.8% stabilized efficiency on aperture area on glass (14.5% on active area). At the same time, by developing the R2R slot die deposition process of the perovskite layer, we demonstrated 160 cm2 flexible module with 10.1 % stabilized efficiency on aperture area (11.0% on active area). In addition, fully R2R coated cells exhibit up to 16% efficiency. An outlook on how to upscale more stable perovskite cells (i.e. with pin structure) will be given. These results prove how to optimize the upscaling process towards large area manufacturing of perovskite solar modules on both rigid and flexible substrate. © 2018 IEEE.

Silicon nanoparticles (Si-NPs) are considered as possible candidates for a wide spectrum of future technological applications. Research in the last decades has shown that plasmas are one of the most suitable environments for the synthesis of Si-NPs. This review discusses the unique size-dependent features of Si-NPs, and the fundamental mechanisms of nanoparticle formation in plasmas by highlighting major plasma synthesis techniques. In addition, the routes to achieve control on Si-NP morphology and chemistry in plasma environments will be discussed. We will review recent advancements in solar cell and lithium-ion battery applications of gas-phase plasma synthesized Si-NPs by highlighting key results from the literature. We will discuss further technological applications, where gas-phase plasma synthesized Si-NPs can contribute, like water splitting and thermoelectrics.

The efficiency of medroxyprogesterone acetate (MAP) and fluorogestone acetate (FGA) sponges with or without PGF(2alpha) (cloprostenol) for synchronizing estrous in non-lactating does was investigated during the natural breeding season. Does were treated for 11 days with 60 mg MAP (n = 38) or 40 mg FGA (n = 32) sponges. All does also received intramuscular injections of 500 IU PMSG. In addition, 19 and 14 of the does synchronized with MAP and FGA respectively, were injected with 125 mug cloprostenol and the remaining does from both groups were injected with 1.5 ml of sterile saline solution, 48 h prior the sponge removal. Cervical artificial insemination (AI) with diluted fresh semen was performed at a fixed time (36 and 48 h) following progestagen withdrawal. The different groups estrous response for the first 12 6 h and within 66 h, time to onset and duration of the induced estrous, and pregnancy rate was found to be 52.6%, 92.9%, 20.6 +/- 0.8 h, 29.7 +/- 1.3 h, and 70.0%, respectively. There were significant differences between groups FGA/PMSG/PGF(2alpha) and MAP/PMSG in terms of the duration of induced estrous (P < 0.05) and between groups FGA/PMSG/PGF(2alpha) and FGA/PMSG in terms of estrous response at the first 12 +/- 6 h (P < 0.05). These results indicate that, the use of MAP/PMSG and FGA/PMSG intravaginal progestagen treatments with or without cloprostenol are equally efficient in synchronizing estrous in non-lactating hair goats during the natural breeding season.

Microsatellites, also known as simple sequence repeats, are short (1-6 bp long) repetitive DNA sequences present in chloroplast genomes (cpSSRs). In this work, chloroplast genomes (cpDNA) of eight different species (G. canescens, G. cyrtoloba, G. dolichocarpa, G. falcata, G. max, G. soja, G. stenophita, and G. tomentella) from Glycine genus were screened for cpSSRs by MISA perl script with a repeat size of ?10 for mono-, 5 for di-, 3 for tri-, tetra-, penta- and hexa-nucleotide, including frequency, distributions, and putative codon repeats of cpSSRs. According to our results, a total of 1273 cpSSRs were identified and among them, 413 (32.4%) were found to be in genic regions and the remaining (67.6%) were all located in intergenic regions, with an average of 1.04 cpSSRs per kb. Trinucleotide repeats (45%) were the most abundant motifs, followed by mononucleotides (36%) and dinucleotides (11.8%) in the plastomes of the Glycine species. In genic regions, trimeric repeats, the most frequent one reached the maximum of 70.7%. Among the other repeats, mono- and tetrameric repeats were represented in proportions of 25.7% and 3.6%, respectively. Interestingly, there were no di-, penta-, and hexameric repeats in coding sequences. The most common motifs found in all plastomes were A/T (97.8%) for mono-, AT/AT (98%) for di-, and AAT/ATT (41.5%) for trinucleotides. Among the chloroplast genes, ycf1 had the highest number of cpSSRs, and G. cyrtoloba and G. falcata species had the maximum number of genes containing cpSSRs. The most frequent putative codon repeats located in coding sequences were found to be glutamic acid (21.2%), followed by serine (15.5%), arginine (8.3%) and phenylalanine (7.8%) in all species. Also, tryptophan, proline, and aspartic acid were not detected in all plastomes.

This study was designed to investigate the serum copper (Cu), zinc (Zn), manganese (Mn), and magnesium (Mg) status in a group of subjects with chronic fluorosis. Fifteen subjects diagnosed with fluorosis who live near Van, Turkey in the fluoride-polluted volcanic Tendurek Mountain region (altitude ca. 2000 m) were randomly selected to represent the fluorotic group. Fifteen healthy individuals living near this region matched for age, sex, body mass index, and smoking status were selected as controls. None of the participants had taken any vitamin or mineral supplements for at least 2 weeks before blood samples were drawn after overnight fasting. Subjects with chronic fluorosis had lower serum Cu, Zn, Mn, and Mg levels than did the controls, and it was therefore concluded that chronic fluorosis is associated with decreased serum levels of these minerals.

In this study germination requirements, plant-soil interactions and population biology of Centaurea kilaea was studied. The plant and soil samples were collected from Sofular Village (Sile District) and shore of Çatalca District (Istanbul) in Turkey by using standard methods. Methods like Scheibler, Wetdigestion, Kjeldahl and Olsen were employed for measurement of soil texture, structure and other physical and chemical characteristics (pH, total protein and electrical conductivity) using spectrophotometer, flame photometer, calcimeter and ICP. The results showed that ranges of different elements in the soil were 0.007-0.2% for N, 0.0007-0.001% for P, 0.001-0.01% for K, 0.0001-0.0002 % for Na. N, P, K and Na values in the plants were 2.17, 0.005, 0.1 and 0.006%, respectively. The data revealed that germination success of the seeds was influenced by the environmental factors such as pH, germination season and temperature., Dalam kajian ini keperluan percambahan, saling tindakan tumbuhan-tanih dan biologi populasi Centaurea kilaea telah dilakukan. Sampel tumbuhan dan tanih telah dikumpul dari Kampung Sofular (Daerah Şile) dan pantai Daerah Çatalca (Istanbul) di Turki dengan menggunakan kaedah piawai. Kaedah seperti Scheibler, Wetdigestion, Kjeldahl dan Olsen telah digunakan bagi pengukuran tekstur tanih, struktur dan sifat fizikal dan kimia lain (pH, jumlah protein dan kekonduksian elektrik) menggunakan spektrofotometer, fotometer api, kalsimeter dan ICP. Hasil menunjukkan bahawa julat unsur berbeza dalam tanih ialah 0.007-0.2% bagi N, 0.0007-0.001% bagi P, 0.001-0.01% bagi K, 0.0001-0.0002% bagi Na. N, P, K dan nilai Na dalam tumbuhan ialah masing-masing 2.17, 0.005, 0.1 dan 0.006%. Data menunjukkan kejayaan percambahan bagi biji benih telah dipengaruhi faktor persekitaran seperti pH, musim percambahan dan suhu.

Battering and breading control the level of moisture removal and fat absorption and also improve the physical and sensorial properties of deep-fried products. The effects of zein, soy protein isolate (SPI), guar and xanthan gums and corn and soy flours on the quality of turkey nuggets were studied using Response Surface Methodology. Turkey buttock chunks were predusted with combinations of zein and SPI (25:75, 50:50, 75:25%), then sprayed with combinations of guar and xanthan gum (0. 1: 0. 3, 0.2:0.2, 0.3: 0. 1 %) after which they were breaded with corn and soy flour (25:75, 50:50, 75:25%). The samples were evaluated for the degree of adhesion, fat absorption, cooking yield and color attributes. The pre-dusting adhesion rate (PD-AR) was higher than 5% with increased zein in the blend. Film-forming properties of zein also reduced fat uptake during frying. Wetting stage altered the last coating adhesion rate (LC-AR). Analytical optimization of nuggets having a good coating, higher cooked yield and desired color were obtained with zein and SPI at the ratio of 73:27% as pre-dusting, guar and xanthan at the ratio of 0.3:0.1%, and corn and soy flour at the ratio of 35:75. © 2023 Wiley Periodicals LLC.In this study, we have synthesized a series of 3-(pyridin-2-yl)-2-(pyridin-2-ylimino)thiazolidin-4-ol derivatives regioselectively from 2-iminothiazolidin-4-ones using LiAlH4 at room temperature. Due to the presence of the restricted rotation around the N3-Caryl single bond, the formation of M/P isomers was observed. The OH group of the hemiaminal was found to orient itself on the same side with pyridyl nitrogen during this restricted rotation to form an intramolecular hydrogen bond, which was demonstrated by the computational DFT study. This orientation presumably inhibited the occurrence of dehydration and stabilized the molecule.

Due to its economic worth, cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.) is grown in almost 70 countries and provides income for more than 250 million people. Therefore, producing cotton with having some desired characteristics that includes extended biotic and abiotic stress tolerance, improved fiber quality, promoted nutritional content and increased yield is the main objective for cotton biotechnology. To achieve this goal, many tissue culture and gene transfer techniques are being developed and used throughout the years. As applications for the gene transfer, the Agrobacterium-mediated, particle bombardment and pollen tube pathway-mediated methods are most successfully used and in conjunction with this, meristematic shoot tips as explants are efficiently utilized in gene transfer methods. In this study, the main objective was to report an efficient protocol for a greater recovery of transgenic cotton plant using Agrobacterium tumefaciens-mediated transformation. For this, one of the cotton strains (Cukurova 1518) cultivated widely in Turkey was chosen and meristematic shoot tips as explant sources, and GFP and NPTII genes as reporter and marker genes were used, respectively. The effective post co-cultivation conditions were provided via using the selection regime in vitro. PubMed ID: 29906582, Objective: To examine the surgical results of unilateral lumbar discectomy in patients with bilateral leg pain and discuss short- and long-term outcomes within the limits of lumbar decompression. Methods: We analyzed 60 patients with unilateral disc herniation who underwent unilateral lumbar discectomy and hemipartial laminectomy between 2014 and 2017. Group 1 (30 patients) had bilateral leg pain and unilateral lumbar disc herniation. Pain lateralization was determined radiologically. Group 2 (30 patients) had unilateral leg pain and unilateral lumbar disc herniation. Pain scores were preoperatively evaluated with visual analog scale (VAS) for both legs and Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) for overall life quality. In both groups, surgery was performed on the ipsilateral side of the herniated disc. Scores were repeated on postoperative day 1 and 1, 3, 6, 12, and 24 months later. VAS score differences for pain lateralization and disc levels were compared in group 1. ODI score differences were compared between both groups. Results were statistically analyzed. Results: VAS score differences were statistically significant at all follow-up time points in patients with ipsilateral and contralateral pain. VAS score differences between L4–L5 and L5–S1 level discopathies were statistically insignificant for all time points in both groups. All postoperative ODI score decreases for all time points were statistically significant (P < 0.001) for both groups, whereas the differences between groups 1 and 2 were statistically insignificant. Conclusions: Conventional lumbar disc surgery alone is sufficient for the ipsilateral side of radiologically demonstrated disc herniation in patients with bilateral leg pain. © 2018 Elsevier Inc., Preparation for the publication of this article was partly supported by Turkish Neurosurgical Society.

Objectives: There are conflicting reports for the relationship of reflux and the gastric emptying rate. In addition, the acquisition period is not well defined for the gastroesophageal reflux studies. The aim of our study was to evaluate the temporal distribution of the reflux episodes and to evaluate whether the gastric emptying rate changed with the gastroesophageal reflux time or amount. Methods: We used radionuclide scintigraphy to evaluate 211 pediatric patients (0-10 years of age). Scintigraphic studies were performed by acquiring 15 s images for 1 h in a supine position after ingesting milk containing 0.5 mCi (18.5 MBq) Tc-99m colloid. Reflux episodes were calculated every 10 min for each patient who had reflux. The gastric emptying rate was measured by drawing an region of interest over the gastric activity. Results: Gastric reflux was observed in 104 patients (49.28%). The number of reflux episodes was higher in the first and second 10 min (33.7 and 29.1% respectively). The lowest reflux episode was observed in the last 10 min (between 50 and 60 min) (2.6%) suggesting that the reflux episode was decreasing by the gastric emptying. Within the first 30 min, reflux was observed in 98 of 104 patients (94.23%). The gastric emptying rate was calculated to be 73 min in patients with a higher incidence of reflux and 62 min in patients who had delayed and lower incidence of reflux episodes. In 104 patients, the average gastric emptying rate was 71.60 min. There were no significant differences in the gastric emptying rates between patients who had reflux episodes beginning in the first 30 min of the study and those who had reflux episodes in the last 30 min of the study (P>0.05). Conclusion: This study has suggested that the number of reflux episodes were not related with the gastric emptying rate. However, reflux could be observed in a higher frequency before gastric emptying, which also suggested that a 30-min period may be sufficient when reflux is shown early. In negative cases, a 60-min acquisition time is recommended for the diagnosis of gastroesophageal reflux. © 2010 Wolters Kluwer Health | Lippincott Williams & Wilkins.
