Background While diagnostic reference levels (DRLs) are well-established for the radiopharmaceutical part, published DRLs for the CT component of positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) and single photon emission computed tomography/computed tomography (SPECT/CT) are limited. This systematic review and meta-analysis provides an overview of the different objectives of CT in hybrid imaging and summarizes reported CT dose values for the most common PET/CT and SPECT/CT examinations. Also, an overview of already proposed national DRLs is given. Methods A systematic literature search was performed to identify original articles reporting CT dose index volume (CTDIvol), dose-length product (DLP) and/or national DRLs for the most frequently performed PET/CT and/or SPECT/CT examinations. Data were grouped according to the clinical objective: diagnostic (D-CT), anatomical localisation (AL-CT) or attenuation correction (AC-CT) CT. Random-effects meta-analyses were conducted. Results Twenty-seven articles were identified of which twelve reported national DRLs. For brain and tumour PET/CT imaging, CTDIvol and DLP values were higher for a D-CT (brain: 26.7 mGy, 483 mGy cm; tumour: 8.8 mGy, 697 mGy cm) than for an AC/AL-CT (brain: 11.3 mGy, 216 mGy cm; tumour: 4.3 mGy, 419 mGy cm). Similar conclusions were found for bone and parathyroid SPECT/CT studies: D-CT (bone: 6.5 mGy, 339 mGy cm; parathyroid: 15.1 mGy, 347 mGy cm) results in higher doses than AL-CT (bone: 3.8 mGy, 156 mGy cm; parathyroid: 4.9 mGy, 166 mGy cm). For cardiac (AC-CT), mIBG/octreotide, thyroid and post-thyroid ablation (AC/AL-CT) SPECT/CT pooled mean CTDIvol (DLP) values were 1.8 mGy (33 mGy cm), 4.6 mGy (208 mGy cm), 3.1 mGy (105 mGy cm) and 4.6 mGy (145 mGy cm), respectively. For all examinations, high variability in nuclear medicine practice was observed. Conclusion The large variation in CT dose values and national DRLs highlights the need for optimisation in hybrid imaging and justifies the clinical implementation for nuclear medicine specific DRLs.

PurposeThis study aimed to evaluate Artificial Neural Network (ANN) modeling to estimate the significant dose length product (DLP) value during the abdominal CT examinations for quality assurance in a retrospective, cross-sectional study.MethodsThe structure of the ANN model was designed considering various input parameters, namely patient weight, patient size, body mass index, mean CTDI volume, scanning length, kVp, mAs, exposure time per rotation, and pitch factor. The aforementioned examination details of 551 abdominal CT scans were used as retrospective data. Different types of learning algorithms such as Levenberg-Marquardt, Bayesian and Scaled-Conjugate Gradient were checked in terms of the accuracy of the training data.ResultsThe R-value representing the correlation coefficient for the real system and system output is given as 0.925, 0.785, and 0.854 for the Levenberg-Marquardt, Bayesian, and Scaled-Conjugate Gradient algorithms, respectively. The findings showed that the Levenberg-Marquardt algorithm comprehensively detects DLP values for abdominal CT examinations. It can be a helpful approach to simplify CT quality assurance.ConclusionIt can be concluded that outcomes of this novel artificial intelligence method can be used for high accuracy DLP estimations before the abdominal CT examinations, where the radiation-related risk factors are high or risk evaluation of multiple CT scans is needed for patients in terms of ALARA. Likewise, it can be concluded that artificial learning methods are powerful tools and can be used for different types of radiation-related risk assessments for quality assurance in diagnostic radiology.

Background: Although paediatrics' are more radio-sensitivity than adults, the number of requested paediatric CT examinations is increasing globally. Significant efforts have been focused on achieving the lowest possible radiation dose for paediatric patients, particularly adjusting for size differences. The purpose of this work is to analyse the technological aspects of the realization of components by 3D printing for the production of plan parts for experimental devices or stands. The author of this work envisages the realization of flat elements to which it can be determined how the organic resin material behaves when printing 3D with additive DLP technology. The work is structured in 5 chapters. In the first chapter, an analysis of how to make the plan elements by the additive DLP technology specific to the experimental programme adopted in this paper. The analysis will be carried out both constructively and functionally taking into account possibilities for designing components and making them. Chapter two is allocated to ordering technological parameters for 3D printing generation of parts defining the main technical parameters for generating them with ecological resin. The next chapter is allocated to analysing how to carry out the printer command program and check the structure of the element. In the four chapter, the dimensional measurement and control programme with dimensional and optical is presented. The last chapter is allocated to conclusions and comparisons from a technological point of view compared to other specific technologies for generating the analysed elements.

Producción Científica, Data leakage is a problem that companies and organizations face every day around the world. Mainly the data leak caused by the internal threat posed by authorized personnel to manipulate confidential information. The main objective of this work is to survey the literature to detect the existing techniques to protect against data leakage and to identify the methods used to address the insider threat. For this, a literature review of scientific databases was carried out in the period from 2011 to 2022, which resulted in 42 relevant papers. It was obtained that from 2017 to date, 60% of the studies found are concentrated and that 90% come from conferences and publications in journals. Significant advances were detected in protection systems against data leakage with the incorporation of new techniques and technologies, such as machine learning, blockchain, and digital rights management policies. In 40% of the relevant studies, significant interest was shown in avoiding internal threats. Background: Three-dimensional printing is a rapidly developing technology across all industries. In medicine recent developments include 3D bioprinting, personalized medication and custom prosthetics and implants. To ensure safety and long-term usability in a clinical setting, it is essential to understand material specific properties. This study aims to analyze possible surface changes of a commercially available and approved DLP 3D printed definitive restoration material for dentistry after three-point flexure testing. Furthermore, this study explores whether Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) is a feasible method for examination of 3D printed dental materials in general. This is a pilot study, as there are currently no studies that analyze 3D printed dental materials using an AFM. Methods: The present study consisted of a pretest followed by the main test. The resulting break force of the preliminary test was used to determine the force used in the main test. The main test consisted of atomic force microscopy (AFM) surface analysis of the test specimen followed by a three-point flexure procedure. After bending, the same specimen was analyzed with the AFM again, to observe possible surface changes. Results: The mean root mean square (RMS) roughness of the segments with the most stress was 20.27 nm (±5.16) before bending, while it was 26.48 nm (±6.67) afterward. The corresponding mean roughness (Ra) values were 16.05 nm (±4.25) and 21.19 nm (±5.71) Conclusions: Under three-point flexure testing, the surface roughness increased significantly. The p-value for RMS roughness was p = 0.003, while it was p = 0.006 for Ra. Furthermore, this study showed that AFM surface analysis is a suitable procedure to investigate surface changes in 3D printed dental materials.

The technology of additive manufacturing (AM) has transformed the fields of machinery, aerospace, and electronics. Adopting cost-effective, precise, and rapid procedures in AM is one of the major concerns of today’s industry. Stereolithography is a promising AM technique that is thought to meet these requirements. However, the fact that materials printed with stereolithography do not have good mechanical properties limits their application, such as in biomedicine and aerospace. Previous studies have shown the shortcomings of stereolithography printers. This research focuses on enhancing the mechanical characteristics of the polymer resin used in stereolithography (SLA)-like liquid crystal display (LCD) 3D printers by fabricating a new AM composite material with carbon fibers. For this reason, chopped carbon fibers (0.1 mm size) at amounts of 0.25 wt% and 0.5 wt% have been used with Acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS)-like photopolymer transparent resin during the printing process, and three different print layer thicknesses were tested. For the design of the experiment (DoE), Q-DAS software was used to analyze the resulting data. A tensile-testing machine was utilized to determine the ultimate strength using the ASTM D638 standard. The results show an increase in the ultimate strength by adding carbon fiber to some extent, but after a certain percentage of carbon fiber added, the strength drops off.

Light-based bioprinter manufacturing technology is still prohibitively expensive for organizations that rely on accessing three-dimensional biological constructs for research and tissue engineering endeavors. Currently, most of the bioprinting systems are based on commercial-grade-based systems or modified DIY (do it yourself) extrusion apparatuses. However, to date, few examples of the adoption of low-cost equipment have been found for light-based bioprinters. The requirement of large volumes of bioinks, their associated cost, and the lack of information regarding the parameter selection have undermined the adoption of this technology. This paper showcases the retrofitting and assessing of a low-cost Light-Based 3D printing system for tissue engineering. To evaluate the potential of a proposed design, a manufacturability test for different features, machine parameters, and Gelatin Methacryloyl (GelMA) concentrations for 7.5% and 10% was performed. Furthermore, a case study of a previously seeded hydrogel with C2C12 cells was successfully implemented as a proof of concept. On the manufacturability test, deviational errors were found between 0.7% to 13.3% for layer exposure times of 15 and 20 s. Live/Dead and Actin-Dapi fluorescence assays after 5 days of culture showed promising results in the cell viability, elongation, and alignment of 3D bioprinted structures. The retrofitting of low-cost equipment has the potential to enable researchers to create high-resolution structures and three-dimensional in vitro models.

The aim of this study was to determine diagnostic reference levels (DRLs) for cardiac computed tomography (CCT) in Jordan. Volume computed tomography dose index (CTDIvol) and dose–length product (DLP) were collected from 228 CCTs performed at seven Jordanian hospitals specialized in cardiac CT. DRLs for cardiac CT were defined at the 75th percentile of CTDIvol and DLP. CTDIvol and DLP were collected from 30 successive cardiac CT in each center except for one center (18 scans). The 75th percentile of the CTDIvol and the DLP of the centers calculated from mixed retrospective and prospective gated modes were 47.74 milligray (mGy) and 1035 mGy/cm, respectively. This study demonstrated wide dose variations among the surveyed hospitals for cardiac CT scans; there was a 5.1‐fold difference between the highest and lowest median DLP with a range of 223.2–1146.7 mGy/cm. Differences were associated with variations in the mAs and kVp. This study confirmed large variability in CTDIvol and DLP for cardiac CT scans; variation was associated with acquisition protocols and highlights the need for dose optimization. DRLs are proposed for CCT; there remains substantial potential for optimization of cardiac CT examinations for adults in Jordan.

This paper presents the static mechanical behavior and the dynamic thermomechanical properties of four market-available reinforced and non-reinforced thermoplastics and photopolymer materials used as precursors in different additive manufacturing technologies. This article proposes a characterization approach to further address development of aeronautic secondary structures via 3D-printed composite materials replacing conventional manufactured carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) composites. Different 3D printing materials, technologies, printing directions, and parameters were investigated. Experimental results showed that carbon-reinforced ONYX_R material exhibits a transition point at 114 °C, a 600 MPa tensile strength, and an average tensile strain of 2.5%, comparable with conventional CFRP composites manufactured via autoclave, making it a suitable candidate for replacing CFRP composites, in the aim of taking advantage of 3D printing technologies. ONYX material exhibits higher stiffness than Acrylonitrile-Butadiene-Styrene Copolymer (ABS), or conventional Nylon 6/6 polyamide, the flexural modulus being 2.5 GPa; nevertheless, the 27 °C determined transition temperature limits its stability at higher temperature. Daylight High Tensile (further called HTS) resin exhibits a tensile strength and strain increase when shifting the printing direction from transversal to longitudinal, while no effect was observed in HighTemp DL400 resin (further called HTP).

Different approaches for digital workflows have already been presented for their use in palatal plates for newborns and infants. However, there is no evidence on the accuracy of CAD/CAM manufactured orthodontic appliances for this kind of application. This study evaluates trueness and precision provided by different CAM technologies and materials for these appliances. Samples of a standard palatal stimulation plate were manufactured using stereolithography (SLA), direct light processing (DLP) and subtractive manufacturing (SM). The effect of material (for SM) and layer thickness (for DLP) were also investigated. Specimens were digitized with a laboratory scanner (D2000, 3Shape) and analyzed with a 3D inspection software (Geomagic Control X, 3D systems). For quantitative analysis, differences between 3D datasets were measured using root mean square (RMS) error values for trueness and precision. For qualitative analysis, color maps were generated to detect locations of deviations within each sample. SM showed higher trueness and precision than AM technologies. Reducing layer thickness in DLP did not significantly increase accuracy, but prolonged manufacturing time. All materials and technologies met the clinically acceptable range and are appropriate for their use. DLP with 100 µm layer thickness showed the highest efficiency, obtaining high trueness and precision within the lowest manufacturing time.

DLP (Digital Light Process) 3D Printer Technology is a 3 dimensional printing machine made from resin with a lighting system using a light projector with a layer-by-layer printing process. In this research, the writer will make an object, which is one of the machining components, namely the gearbox casing. In this study the authors will analyze the effect of process parameters (exposure time, off time, and their interaction) on the dimensions of the printout and get the most optimal parameters to be applied to components or printing objects. In conducting testing, the measurement of the tester's dimensions uses the Krisbow KW06-422 calipers. Then the measurement data is processed by the Anova method.

Digital Light Processing (DLP) technology exhibits the capability of producing components with complex structures for a variety of technical applications. Postprocessing of additively printed ceramic components has been shown to be an important step in determining the final product resolution and mechanical qualities, particularly with regard to distortions and resultant density. The goal of this research is to study the sintering process parameters to create a nearly fully dense, defect-free, ceramic component. A high-solid-loading alumina slurry with suitable rheological and photopolymerisable characteristics for DLP was created. TGA/DSC analysis was used to estimate thermal debinding parameters. The sintering process of the debound parts was studied by employing a numerical model based on thermo-viscoelasticity theory to describe the sintering process. The validated Finite Element Modelling (FEM) code was capable of predicting shrinkage and relative density changes during the sintering cycle, as well as providing meaningful information on the final shape. Archimedes’ principle and scanning electron microscope (SEM) were used to characterise the sintered parts and validate the numerical model. Samples with high relative density (>98.5%) were produced and numerical data showed close matches for predicted shrinkages and relative densities, with less than 2% mismatch between experimental results and simulations. The current model may allow to effectively predict the properties of alumina ceramics produced via DLP and tailor them for specific applications.

Additive manufacturing (AM) can revolutionise engineering by taking advantage of unconstrained design and overcoming the limitations of traditional manufacturing capabilities. A promising application of AM is in catalyst substrate manufacturing, aimed at the enhancement of the catalytic efficiency and reduction in the volume and weight of the catalytic reactors in the exhaust gas aftertreatment systems. This work addresses the design and fabrication of innovative, hybrid monolithic ceramic substrates using AM technology based on Digital Light Processing (DLP). The designs are based on two individual substrates integrated into a single, dual-substrate monolith by various interlocking systems. These novel dual-substrate monoliths lay the foundation for the potential reduction in the complexity and expense of the aftertreatment system. Several examples of interlocking systems for dual substrates were designed, manufactured and thermally post-processed to illustrate the viability and versatility of the DLP manufacturing process. Based on the findings, the sintered parts displayed anisotropic sintering shrinkage of approximately 14% in the X–Y direction and 19% in the Z direction, with a sintered density of 97.88 ± 0.01%. Finally, mechanical tests revealed the mechanical integrity of the designed interlocks. U-lock and Thread configurations were found to sustain more load until complete failure.

Exposing valuable data to others leads to severe Consequences. Customers, organizations, and /or companies lose their money and reputation due to data breaches. There are many reasons for data leakages. Internal threats such as human mistakes and external threats such as DDoS attacks are two main reasons for data loss. In general, data may be categorized based into three kinds: data in use, data at rest, and data in motion. Data Loss Prevention (DLP) are good tools to identify important data. DLP can do analysis for data content and send feedback to administrators to make decision such as filtering, deleting, or encryption. Data Loss Prevention (DLP) tools are not a final solution for data breaches, but they consider good security tools to eliminate malicious activities and protect sensitive information. There are many kinds of DLP techniques, and approximation matching is one of them. Mrsh-v2 is one type of approximation matching. It is implemented and evaluated by using TS dataset and confusion matrix. Finally, Mrsh-v2 has high score of true positive and sensitivity, and it has low score of false negative.

The purpose of the research presented in this paper is to investigate the capability of a soft tooling process chain employing Additive Manufacturing (AM) for preproduction of an insert with micro features by injection molding. The Soft Tooling insert was manufactured in a high temperature photopolymer by Digital Light Processing (vat photopolymerization). The mold cavity was formed by two insert halves, by design; both inserts have four angled tines, with micro holes (O200 μm, 200 μm deep) on the surface. Injection molding with polyethylene was used with the soft tool inserts to manufacture the final production components. The diameter and height of the pillars that were replicated on the molded components were characterized by means of a 3D profilometer. The influence of the injection molding parameters on the replication was evaluated using a 2-levels DOE of three factors. The uniformity of the pillars are also evaluated regarding the diameter and height.

In this work, the application in Radiofrequency Identification (RFID) of different additive manufacturing (AM) 3D-printing technologies is discussed. In particular, the well-known Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) technology is compared with the promising Digital Light Processing (DLP), which is based on the photopolymerization of liquid resins. Based on the research activity of the authors on this topic, a brief introduction to the fundamentals of 3D-printing in electromagnetics as well as to the different applications of both FDM and DLP in realizing Radio Frequency (RF) devices, is firstly given. Then, a comparison of the two technologies is deeply faced. Finally, after evaluated the rugosity of substrates produced with both techniques to verify the potential impact on the design of electromagnetic structures, the two techniques are both exploited for the realization of the dielectric parts of a tunable RFID tag with unconventional shape. It consists of two elements interlinked one each other. The movement between them enables tuning of the resonance frequency as well as the impedance of the antenna. Despite the differences in terms of losses, rugosity, resolution, and dielectric constant, both techniques guaranteed satisfactory values of tag sensitivity, maximum reading range, and tunability. Nevertheless, the careful analysis of the results proposed at the end of the paper suggests how the selection of one technique over the other must be taken considering the specific application constraints.

Highlights • There is variation in the difference between the radiation dose reported by the CT scanner and actual measured dose. • This variation is substantial and may differ from zero. • To achieve more precise radiation dose data, especially in comparing studies, the average difference should be determined. • A correction factor for radiation dose should be utilized for every scanner used in studies., Background Internationally, the typical allowed difference between the measured radiation dose and dose reported by a computed tomography (CT) scanner is ±20 %. The objective is to describe a method in order to analyse this difference in a CT scanner in the Emergency Department of Kanta-Häme Central Hospital, and to calculate a correction factor for more comparable radiation dose values in further studies. Methods Ten intra-day radiation dose measurements were performed with undisturbed setting. Measurement reports on differences between measured and displayed dose were gathered from the vendor maintenance and supervising authority over a 12-year period. Additionally, two in-house measurements were made. A total of 18 datapoints were collected, with some differences in measurement settings. Data were also analysed against imaging parameters, ambient air pressure and time to identify trends or associations in the variation of the discrepancy. Results Measured doses were generally lower than displayed doses. Differences between displayed and measured doses varied between −3.46 and −0.10 %, with a mean of −1.26 % in the intra-day measurements, and between +4.65 and −17.3 %, with a mean of −7.53 % in the long-term data. There were no trends nor connections in the variations. Conclusion Since the acceptable difference between the radiation dose display and the measured dose is relevant, the average difference for every CT scanner should be determined before radiation dose studies, especially when comparing multiple scanners.

In this work, we propose an innovative strategy for obtaining functional objects employing a light-activated three-dimensional (3D) printing process without affecting the materials' printability. In particular, a dye is a necessary ingredient in a formulation for a digital light processing 3D printing method to obtain precise and complex structures. Here, we use a photoluminescent dye specifically synthesized for this purpose that enables the production of 3D printed waveguides and splitters able to guide the luminescence. Moreover, copolymerizing the dye with the polymeric network during the printing process, we are able to maintain the solvatochromic properties of the dye toward different solvents in the printed structures, enabling the development of solvents' polarity sensors.

Despite the availability of two attenuated vaccines, rotavirus (RV) gastroenteritis remains an important cause of mortality among children in developing countries, causing about 215,000 infant deaths annually. Currently, there are no specific antiviral therapies available. RV is a nonenveloped virus with a segmented double-stranded RNA genome. Viral genome replication and assembly of transcriptionally active double-layered particles (DLPs) take place in cytoplasmic viral structures called viroplasms. In this study, we describe strong impairment of the early stages of RV replication induced by a small molecule known as an RNA polymerase III inhibitor, ML-60218 (ML). This compound was found to disrupt already assembled viroplasms and to hamper the formation of new ones without the need for de novo transcription of cellular RNAs. This phenotype was correlated with a reduction in accumulated viral proteins and newly made viral genome segments, disappearance of the hyperphosphorylated isoforms of the viroplasm-resident protein NSP5, and inhibition of infectious progeny virus production. In in vitro transcription assays with purified DLPs, ML showed dose-dependent inhibitory activity, indicating the viral nature of its target. ML was found to interfere with the formation of higher-order structures of VP6, the protein forming the DLP outer layer, without compromising its ability to trimerize. Electron microscopy of ML-treated DLPs showed dose-dependent structural damage. Our data suggest that interactions between VP6 trimers are essential, not only for DLP stability, but also for the structural integrity of viroplasms in infected cells. IMPORTANCE Rotavirus gastroenteritis is responsible for a large number of infant deaths in developing countries. Unfortunately, in the countries where effective vaccines are urgently needed, the efficacy of the available vaccines is particularly low. Therefore, the development of antivirals is an important goal, as they might complement the available vaccines or represent an alternative option. Moreover, they may be decisive in fighting the acute phase of infection. This work describes the inhibitory effect on rotavirus replication of a small molecule initially reported as an RNA polymerase III inhibitor. The molecule is the first chemical compound identified that is able to disrupt viroplasms, the viral replication machinery, and to compromise the stability of DLPs by targeting the viral protein VP6. This molecule thus represents a starting point in the development of more potent and less cytotoxic compounds against rotavirus infection.

The study is aimed at a verification of dose changes for a computed tomography automatic tube-current modulation (ATCM) technique. For this purpose, anthropomorphic phantom and Gafchromic® XR-QA2 films were used. Radiochromic films were cut according to the shape of two thorax regions. The ATCM algorithm is based on noise index (NI) and three exam protocols with different NI were chosen, of which one was a reference. Results were compared with dose values displayed by the console and with Poisson statistics. The information obtained with radiochromic films has been normalized with respect to the NI reference value to compare dose percentage variations. Results showed that, on average, the information reported by the CT console and calculated values coincide with measurements. The study allowed verification of the dose information reported by the CT console for an ATCM technique. Although this evaluation represents an estimate, the method can be a starting point for further studies.

This work develops a technique for kilovoltage cone‐beam CT (CBCT) dosimetry that incorporates both point dose and integral dose in the form of dose length product, and uses readily available radiotherapy equipment. The dose from imaging protocols for a range of imaging parameters and treatment sites was evaluated. Conventional CT dosimetry using 100 mm long pencil chambers has been shown to be inadequate for the large fields in CBCT and has been replaced in this work by a combination of point dose and integral dose. Absolute dose measurements were made with a small volume ion chamber at the central slice of a radiotherapy phantom. Beam profiles were measured using a linear diode array large enough to capture the entire imaging field. These profiles were normalized to absolute dose to form dose line integrals, which were then weighted with radial depth to form the DLPCBCT. This metric is analogous to the standard dose length product (DLP), but derived differently to suit the unique properties of CBCT. Imaging protocols for head and neck, chest, and prostate sites delivered absolute doses of 0.9, 2.2, and 2.9 cGy to the center of the phantom, and DLPCBCT of 28.2, 665.1, and 565.3 mGy.cm, respectively. Results are displayed as dose per 100 mAs and as a function of key imaging parameters such as kVp, mAs, and collimator selection in a summary table. DLPCBCT was found to correlate closely with the dimension of the imaging region and provided a good indication of integral dose. It is important to assess integral dose when determining radiation doses to patients using CBCT. By incorporating measured beam profiles and DLP, this technique provides a CBCT dosimetry in radiotherapy phantoms and allows the prediction of imaging dose for new CBCT protocols. In this study, lignin has been extracted from oil palm empty fruit bunch (EFB) fibers via an organosolv process. The organosolv lignin obtained was defined by the presence of hydroxyl-containing molecules, such as guaiacyl and syringyl, and by the presence of phenolic molecules in lignin. Subsequently, the extracted organosolv lignin and graphene nanoplatelets (GNP) were utilized as filler and reinforcement in photo-curable polyurethane (PU), which is used in stereolithography 3D printing. The compatibility as well as the characteristic and structural changes of the composite were identified through the mechanical properties of the 3D-printed composites. Furthermore, the tensile strength of the composited lignin and graphene shows significant improvement as high as 27%. The hardness of the photo-curable PU composites measured by nanoindentation exhibited an enormous improvement for 0.6% of lignin-graphene at 92.49 MPa with 238% increment when compared with unmodified PU.

Background: Medical X-rays are the largest man-made source of public exposure to ionizing radiation. While the benefits of Computed Tomography (CT) are well known in accurate diagnosis, those benefits are not risk-free. CT is a device with higher patient dose in comparison with other conventional radiation procedures. Objective: This study is aimed at evaluating radiation dose to patients from Computed Tomography (CT) examination in Mazandaran hospitals and defining diagnostic reference level (DRL). Methods: Patient-related data on CT protocol for four common CT examinations including brain, sinus, chest and abdomen & pelvic were collected. In each center, Computed Tomography Dose Index (CTDI) measurements were performed using pencil ionization chamber and CT dosimetry phantom according to AAPM report No. 96 for those techniques. Then, Weighted Computed Tomography Dose Index (CTDIW), Volume Computed Tomography Dose Index (CTDI vol) and Dose Length Product (DLP) were calculated. Results: The CTDIw for brain, sinus, chest and abdomen & pelvic ranged (15.6- 73), (3.8-25. 8), (4.5-16.3) and (7-16.3), respectively. Values of DLP had a range of (197.4-981), (41.8-184), (131-342.3) and (283.6-486) for brain, sinus, chest and abdomen & pelvic, respectively. The 3rd quartile of CTDIW, derived from dose distribution for each examination is the proposed quantity for DRL. The DRLs of brain, sinus, chest and abdomen & pelvic are measured 59.5, 17, 7.8 and 11 mGy, respectively. Conclusion: Results of this study demonstrated large scales of dose for the same examination among different centers. For all examinations, our values were lower than international reference doses.

Stereolithography (SL) is a technique allowing additive manufacturing of complex ceramic parts by selective photopolymerization of a photocurable suspension containing photocurable monomer, photoinitiator, and a ceramic powder. The manufactured three-dimensional object is cleaned and converted into a dense ceramic part by thermal debinding of the polymer network and subsequent sintering. The debinding is the most critical and time-consuming step, and often the source of cracks. In this study, photocurable alumina suspensions have been developed, and the influence of resin composition on defect formation has been investigated. The suspensions were characterized in terms of rheology and curing behaviour, and cross-sections of sintered specimens manufactured by SL were evaluated by SEM. It was found that the addition of a non-reactive component to the photocurable resin reduced polymerization shrinkage and altered the thermal decomposition of the polymer matrix, which led to a reduction in both delamination and intra-laminar cracks. Using a non-reactive component that decomposed rather than evaporated led to less residual porosity.

BACKGROUND: The diagnosis of lymphoproliferative disorders (LPD) is routinely made through histological and immunohistochemical analysis of lymph nodes. Immunophenotyping by flow cytometry (FC) is a sensitive and fast tool, which may be applied in samples obtained through fine needle aspiration for the diagnosis of LPD. Bcl-2 is a proto-oncogene that appears in several LPD and it has a significantly high expression in follicular lymphomas. OBJECTIVES: to diagnose LPD in FNA samples through morphology and flow cytometry immunophenotyping. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Samples from 25 patients with lymphadenopathies and 2 reactive tonsils were studied through morphology and immunophenotyping. The antigens expressions were evaluated by using a screening panel of monoclonal antibodies (CD3, CD4, CD8, CD19, light chains kappa; and lambda), followed by CD5, CD10, CD11c, CD23, CD79b, sIgM, FMC-7 and Bcl-2 when required. The results were compared with histology. RESULTS:Four out of 25 samples were reactive processes and 21were B-LPD. In all cases there was consistency with histological results. The mean fluorescence intensity of Bcl-2 in Follicular Lymphoma (19.92) was higher compared with other lymphoproliferative diseases (11.93) and controls (3.49) (p = 0.032). CONCLUSION: Fine needle aspiration of lymph nodes associated with cytomorphology and flow cytometry immunophenotyping allows a fast differentiation between reactive processes and B lymphoproliferative cases. The high expression of Bcl-2 by cytometry shows its usefulness in the diagnosis of the most frequent type of B-LPD. Fine needle aspiration sampling requires training and more than one aspiration is recommended.

We show that the drosophila gene encoding the dystrophin-like protein (DLP) is as complex as the mammalian dystrophin gene. Three 5′ promoters and three internal promoters regulate the expression of three full-length and three truncated products, respectively. The existence of this complex gene structure in such evolutionary remote organisms suggests that both types of products have diverse important functions. The promoters of both the DLP gene and the mammalian dystrophin gene are located in very large introns. These introns contribute significantly to the large size of the genes. The possible relevance of the conservation of the large size of introns containing promoters to the regulation of promoter activity is discussed.

Purpose: Computed tomography (CT), is an X-ray procedure that generates high quality cross-sectional images of the body, and by comparison to other radiological diagnosis, is responsible for higher doses to patients. This work studies the doses and image qualities produced from the default primary scanning factors of a Siemens CT machine and afterwards came up with scanning protocols that allow radiologists to obtain the necessary diagnostic information while reducing radiation doses to as low as reasonably achievable. Methods: Approximately 1000 CT scans from mostly common examinations; head, thorax, abdomen and pelvis routines were selected and analyzed for their image quality and radiation doses over a two year interval. Dose measurements were performed for the same routines using Computed Tomography Dose Index (CTDI) phantoms, RTI barracuda system with electrometer, and CT dose Profiler detector to evaluate the doses delivered during these CT procedures. Subsequently, image quality checks were performed using the CT Catphan 600 and anthropomorphic phantoms. CTDI and Dose Length Product (DLP) values were calculated for each scan. From analyzing these measurements, the appropriate machine scanning parameters were adjusted to reduce radiation does while at the same time providing good image quality.Results: Doses to patients using the default head sequence protocol had an average CTDIvol value of 65.45 mGy and a range of 7.10-16.80 mGy for thorax, abdomen and pelvis examinations whiles the new protocol had an average CTDIvol of 58.32 mGy for the head and a range of 3.83-15.24 mGy for the truck region. The DLP value for default head scans decreased from an average of 2279.85 mGy.cm to 874.53 mGy.cm with the new protocol. Tube potentials (KV) and tube current-time (mAs) had an effect on spatial resolution and low contrast detectability as well as doses. Conclusion: From the new protocols, lower values of KV and mAs together with other factors were enough to produce acceptable level of image quality which leads to adequate diagnosis without unnecessary doses to patients.......................................................Cite this article as:Acquah GF, Schiestl B,Cofie AY, Nkansah JO. The aim of this research is to show how manufacturing speeds during vat polymerisation can be vastly increased through an adaptive layer heightstrategy that takes the geometry into account through analysis of the relationship between layer height, cross-section variability and surface structure. This allows for considerable process speedup during the Additive Manufacture of components that contain areas of low cross-section variability, at no loss of surface quality. The adaptive slicing strategy was tested with a purpose built vat polymerisation system and numerical engine designed and constructed to serve as a Next-Gen technology platform. By means of assessing hemispherical manufactured test specimen and through 3D surface mapping with variable-focus microscopy and confocal microscopy, a balance between minimal loss of surface quality with a maximal increase of manufacturing rate has been identified as a simple angle-dependent rule. The achievable increase in manufacturing rate was above 38% compared to conventional part slicing. Published version
