Adiabatic film cooling effectiveness was measured on the endwall of a turbine vane under transonic flow conditions using binary pressure-sensitive paint. The combined effect of upstream and passage film cooling holes was evaluated. The experiments used a five-vane annular cascade in a blowdown wind tunnel. The mainstream velocity was set to exit isentropic Mach numbers of 0.7 and 0.9. The total coolant-to-mainstream mass flow ratio (MFR) was varied from 0.75 to 2.50%. Coolant-to-mainstream density ratios (DRs) of 1.0 and 2.0 were investigated. The first row was located upstream of the vanes, and the second and third rows were located in the passage between the vanes. Coolant was supplied by a divided plenum, allowing independent control of the MFR to the upstream and the passage holes. The coolant MFR was evenly split between the upstream and passage holes. Generally, increasing the MFR, the DR, and the Mach number increased the film cooling effectiveness. However, increasing the DR at MFRs of 0.625% and below decreased the laterally averaged film cooling effectiveness by as much as 60%, largely because mainstream flow was ingested through the second row. Upstream coolant provided some protection through the passage, with effectiveness as high as 0.2 at the second row.

Previous research has found evidence for the Intermanual Speed Advantage (ISA), wherein novice actors perform a visually-guided, two-handed task faster with one hand from each partner (i.e., intermanually) compared to when one actor completes the task with their own two hands (i.e., bimanually). The ISA is erased, however, after the task has been well-practiced by both actors bimanually. Visuomotor coupling (i.e., coordination between eye and hand movements) has been found to account for the moderating effect of practice on the ISA. Through a lag analysis, this study uses secondary data to further investigate visuomotor coupling and the ISA. Findings show that the time lag between the gaze and the hands of novice actors entrains to the partner with lower visuomotor coupling (i.e., the less coupled partner) in the intermanual trials. However, for experienced actors with previous bimanual practice, dyads entrain to the more coupled partner.

This book, Making Connections: A Handbook for Effective Formal Mentoring Programs in Academia, makes a unique and needed contribution to the mentoring field as it focuses solely on mentoring in academia. This handbook is a collaborative institutional effort between Utah State University’s (USU) Empowering Teaching Open Access Book Series and the Mentoring Institute at the University of New Mexico (UNM). Film cooling was measured on the endwall of a five-vane annular cascade in a blowdown wind tunnel at an exit Mach number of 0.9. The adiabatic film cooling effectiveness was calculated from the partial pressure of oxygen measured with binary pressure sensitive paint (BPSP). Cylindrical film cooling holes were located in the upstream and passage regions with the coolant-to-mainstream mass flow ratio (MFR) independently varied for each region. One row was located upstream of the vanes and supplied by an upstream plenum. Two rows were located in the passage between two vanes and supplied by a downstream plenum. Three total MFRs were investigated: 1%, 1.5%, and 2%. For a given total MFR, four combinations of upstream and downstream MFRs were compared to an even split of coolant. Coolant-to-mainstream density ratios (DRs) of 1.0 and 2.0 were investigated. The most efficient use of coolant hinged on balancing the downstream MFR for the second row due to the endwall pressure gradient preventing coolant from exiting the holes or a high jet velocity causing liftoff. For this row, selecting the optimum MFR increased the area-averaged film cooling effectiveness by up to 200% with a reduction in row 1 of less than 25%. At high downstream MFRs, increasing the density ratio delayed liftoff and increased film cooling effectiveness in row 2 by 65%. However, at low MFRs, increasing the density ratio reduced film cooling effectiveness in row 2 by 60%.

Seam carving is an algorithm that analyzes image content and can be used for size reduction in a manner that avoids direct compression or downscaling. Seam carving iteratively identifies horizontal and/or vertical paths of least visual importance and removes them from the image; each path removal reduces the length or width of the image by one row or column of pixels. This article adapts seam carving to reduce excess area of flow-based microfluidic chips that have been drawn by hand or by computer-aided heuristics without negatively impacting their functionality. The proposed approach leverages domain knowledge, wherein the image to be carved consists of I/O ports, components, and fluid channels, with known and understood fluidic behavior. Three different variants of seam carving are presented: 1) linear; 2) nonlinear; and 3) nonrectilinear; experimental results show that nonrectilinear, which is the most general of the three, yields the best results: it improves area utilization by $8.6\times $ and reduces fluid routing channel length by 73% across a set of benchmark microfluidic designs.

Formal mentoring programs have direct benefits for academic health care institutions, but it is unclear whether program designs use recommended components and whether outcomes are being captured and evaluated appropriately. The goal of this scoping review is to address these questions.We completed a literature review using a comprehensive search in SCOPUS and PubMed (1998-2019), a direct solicitation for unpublished programs, and hand-searched key references, while targeting mentor programs in the United States, Puerto Rico, and Canada. After three rounds of screening, team members independently reviewed and extracted assigned articles for 40 design data items into a comprehensive database.Fifty-eight distinct mentoring programs were represented in the data set. The team members clarified specific mentor roles to assist the analysis. The analysis identified mentoring program characteristics that were properly implemented, including identifying program goals, specifying the target learners, and performing a needs assessment. The analysis also identified areas for improvement, including consistent use of models/frameworks for program design, implementation of mentor preparation, consistent reporting of objective outcomes and career satisfaction outcomes, engagement of program evaluation methods, increasing frequency of reports as programs as they mature, addressing the needs of specific faculty groups (eg, women and minority faculty), and providing analyses of program cost-effectiveness in relation to resource allocation (return on investment).The review found that several mentor program design, implementation, outcome, and evaluation components are poorly aligned with recommendations, and content for URM and women faculty members is underrepresented. The review should provide academic leadership information to improve these discrepancies.

Mercurial signatures are a useful building block for privacy-preserving schemes, such as anonymous credentials, delegatable anonymous credentials, and related applications. They allow a signature σ on a message m under a public key pk to be transformed into a signature σ′ on an equivalent message m′ under an equivalent public key pk′ for an appropriate notion of equivalence. For example, pk and pk′ may be unlinkable pseudonyms of the same user, and m and m′ may be unlinkable pseudonyms of a user to whom some capability is delegated. The only previously known construction of mercurial signatures suffers a severe limitation: in order to sign messages of length ℓ, the signer’s public key must also be of length ℓ. In this paper, we eliminate this restriction and provide an interactive signing protocol that admits messages of any length. We prove our scheme existentially unforgeable under chosen open message attacks (EUF-CoMA) under a variant of the asymmetric bilinear decisional Diffie-Hellman assumption (ABDDH).

Low back pain (LBP) is a leading cause of years lived with disability worldwide, and lumbar spine surgeries have been recommended for individuals with specific LBP following unsuccessful conservative management or for cases with severe symptoms. However, the outcomes following lumbar spine surgery for LBP remain inconsistent across the literature. The purpose of this meta-ethnography is to gain an understanding of the beliefs, perceptions and experiences of adult patients before and/or after lumbar spine surgery for LBP.

Peripartum depression is a common complication of pregnancy with the potential for dangerous consequences to maternal and infant health if left untreated. The disorder was previously classified as a global public health issue due to the high prevalence of the disorder and the mismatch between available treatment options and successful completion of those options. The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic increased the incidence of mental health disorders globally, with an even greater effect on peripartum mothers. A preliminary study on fetal implications suggests the resulting increased maternal stress and depressive mood symptoms correlates to worsened fetal brain development. The pandemic highlighted existing barriers to the treatment of peripartum mood disorders. The drastic increase in the use of telemedicine as a modality of treatment in response to the public health crisis has the potential to address some of these barriers. Future global disasters are inevitable with peripartum mothers highly susceptible to worsened mental health outcomes. We are thus highlighting the responsibility of clinicians, professional organizations, and policymakers to support, identify, and facilitate the treatment of postpartum depression for this vulnerable population to prevent short-term and long-term repercussions.

Widespread regions of the southeast United States have soils, and hence forages, deficient in selenium (Se), necessitating Se supplementation to grazing cattle for optimal immune function, growth, and fertility. We have reported that supplementation with an isomolar 1:1 mix (MIX) of inorganic (ISe) and organic (OSe) forms of Se increases early luteal phase (LP) concentrations of progesterone (P4) above that in cows on ISe or OSe alone. Increased early LP P4 advances embryonic development. Our objective was to determine the effects of the form of Se on the development of the bovine conceptus and the endometrium using targeted real-time PCR (qPCR) on day 17 of gestation, the time of maternal recognition of pregnancy (MRP). Angus-cross yearling heifers underwent 45-d Se-depletion then repletion periods, then at least 90 d of supplementation (TRT) with 35 ppm Se per day as either ISe (n = 10) or MIX (n = 10). Heifers were inseminated to a single sire after detected estrus (day 0). On day 17 of gestation, caruncular (CAR) and intercaruncular (ICAR) endometrial samples and the developing conceptus were recovered from pregnant heifers (ISe, n = 6 and MIX, n = 6). qPCR was performed to determine the relative abundance of targeted transcripts in CAR and ICAR samples, with the expression data subjected to one-way ANOVA to determine TRT effects. The effect of TRT on conceptus development was analyzed using a one-tailed Student's t-test. When compared with ISe-treated heifers, MIX heifers had decreased (P0.05) abundance of several P4-induced and interferon-stimulated mRNA transcripts, including IFIT3, ISG15, MX1, OAS2, RSAD2, DGAT2, FGF2 in CAR and DKK1 in ICAR samples and tended (P ≤ 0.10) to have decreased mRNA abundance of IRF1, IRF2, FOXL2, and PGR in CAR samples, and HOXA10 and PAQR7 in ICAR samples. In contrast, MIX-supplemented heifers had increased (P0.05) mRNA abundance of MSTN in ICAR samples and an increase in conceptus length (ISe: 17.45 ± 3.08 cm vs. MIX: 25.96 ± 3.95 cm; P = 0.05). Notably, myostatin increases glucose secretion into histotroph and contributes to advanced conceptus development. This advancement in conceptus development occurred in the presence of similar concentrations of serum P4 (P = 0.88) and whole blood Se (P = 0.07) at MRP.In regions with soils deficient in selenium (Se), it is recommended that this trace mineral is supplemented to the diet of forage-grazing cattle. We have previously reported that the form of Se supplemented to cattle affects the function of multiple tissues, including the testis, liver, ovary, and pituitary. The objective of this study was to determine how the form of Se supplemented to heifers to achieve a Se-adequate status affects endometrial function and development of the conceptus at maternal recognition of pregnancy (MRP). Heifers were supplemented with the industry standard, an inorganic form of Se (ISe), or a 1:1 mix of organic and inorganic forms (MIX), with the reproductive tract recovered on day 17 of pregnancy. Real-time PCR was performed to determine the relative abundance of targeted mRNA transcripts in caruncular (CAR) and intercaruncular (ICAR) endometrial samples. The form of supplemental Se affected the abundance of multiple progesterone-induced and interferon-stimulated mRNA transcripts in CAR and ICAR samples, as well as the length of the conceptus that was recovered at MRP (day 17). Overall, our results indicate differences in endometrial function and increased development of the conceptus in cattle provided with MIX vs. ISe, suggesting that the MIX form of supplemental Se may increase fertility in cattle grazing soils deficient in this trace mineral.

To clarify the current state of knowledge on the association of endplate structural defects and back pain. Five databases were searched for studies reporting on the association between endplate structural defects and back pain. Covidence and comprehensive meta-analysis software were used for article screening and selection and pooling of extracted data. Overall quality of evidence was assessed using GRADE. Twenty-six studies comprised of 11,027 subjects met inclusion criteria. The presence of moderate heterogeneity (I2 = 73%; p = 0.001) prevented the pooling of estimates across all studies. However, it was possible to pool studies of specific endplate defect phenotypes, such as erosion (OR: 2.69; 95% CI: 1.35–5.50) and sclerosis (OR: 1.97; 95% CI: 1.50–2.58), which yielded significant associations with back pain. Schmorl’s nodes were also associated with most individual back pain phenotypes (OR: 1.53–1326, I2 = 0–7.5%) and back pain overall (OR: 1.63, 95% CI: 1.37–1.94, I2 = 26%) in general population samples. The pooling of data from all studies of specific back pain phenotypes, such as frequent back pain (OR: 2.83; 95% CI: 1.77–4.52) and back pain incidence (OR: 1.65; 95% CI: 1.30–2.10), each yielded significant association with endplate structural defects and was supported by low heterogeneity (I2 =

Improving diversity in the healthcare workforce holds promise in improving the health outcomes of our diverse patient population. Attracting, recruiting, and retaining physicians from races and ethnicities that are historically underrepresented in medicine are vital in this effort. Increasing diversity at the graduate medical education level has the potential to positively reshape our physician personnel. In this editorial, we discuss the current state of diversity-oriented recruitment strategies for residency programs and present opportunities for future efforts.

Including millimeter-wave (mm-wave) data in multi-wavelength studies of the variability of active galactic nuclei (AGN) can provide insights into AGN physics that are not easily accessible at other wavelengths. We demonstrate in this work the potential of cosmic microwave background (CMB) telescopes to provide long-term, high-cadence mm-wave AGN monitoring over large fractions of sky. We report on a pilot study using data from the SPTpol instrument on the South Pole Telescope (SPT), which was designed to observe the CMB at arcminute and larger angular scales. Between 2013 and 2016, SPTpol was used primarily to observe a single 500 deg^2 field, covering the entire field several times per day with detectors sensitive to radiation in bands centered at 95 and 150 GHz. We use SPT 150 GHz observations to create AGN light curves, and we compare these mm-wave light curves to those at other wavelengths, in particular gamma-ray and optical. In this Letter, we focus on a single source, PKS 2326-502, which has extensive, day-timescale monitoring data in gamma-ray, optical, and now mm-wave between 2013 and 2016. We find PKS 2326-502 to be in a flaring state in the first two years of this monitoring, and we present a search for evidence of correlated variability between mm-wave, optical R band, and gamma-ray observations. CMB-S4 - the next-generation ground-based cosmic microwave background (CMB) experiment - is set to significantly advance the sensitivity of CMB measurements and enhance our understanding of the origin and evolution of the universe. Among the science cases pursued with CMB-S4, the quest for detecting primordial gravitational waves is a central driver of the experimental design. This work details the development of a forecasting framework that includes a power-spectrum-based semianalytic projection tool, targeted explicitly toward optimizing constraints on the tensor-to-scalar ratio, r, in the presence of Galactic foregrounds and gravitational lensing of the CMB. This framework is unique in its direct use of information from the achieved performance of current Stage 2-3 CMB experiments to robustly forecast the science reach of upcoming CMB-polarization endeavors. The methodology allows for rapid iteration over experimental configurations and offers a flexible way to optimize the design of future experiments, given a desired scientific goal. To form a closed-loop process, we couple this semianalytic tool with map-based validation studies, which allow for the injection of additional complexity and verification of our forecasts with several independent analysis methods. We document multiple rounds of forecasts for CMB-S4 using this process and the resulting establishment of the current reference design of the primordial gravitational-wave component of the Stage-4 experiment, optimized to achieve our science goals of detecting primordial gravitational waves for r > 0.003 at greater than 5σ, or in the absence of a detection, of reaching an upper limit of r < 0.001 at 95% CL.

Joint analyses of cross-correlations between measurements of galaxy positions, galaxy lensing, and lensing of the cosmic microwave background (CMB) offer powerful constraints on the large-scale structure of the Universe. In a forthcoming analysis, we will present cosmological constraints from the analysis of such cross-correlations measured using Year 3 data from the Dark Energy Survey (DES), and CMB data from the South Pole Telescope (SPT) and Planck. Here we present two key ingredients of this analysis: (1) an improved CMB lensing map in the SPT-SZ survey footprint, and (2) the analysis methodology that will be used to extract cosmological information from the cross-correlation measurements. Relative to previous lensing maps made from the same CMB observations, we have implemented techniques to remove contamination from the thermal Sunyaev Zel'dovich effect, enabling the extraction of cosmological information from smaller angular scales of the cross-correlation measurements than in previous analyses with DES Year 1 data. We describe our model for the cross-correlations between these maps and DES data, and validate our modeling choices to demonstrate the robustness of our analysis. We then forecast the expected cosmological constraints from the galaxy survey-CMB lensing auto and cross-correlations. We find that the galaxy-CMB lensing and galaxy shear-CMB lensing correlations will on their own provide a constraint on $S_8=\sigma_8 \sqrt{\Omega_{\rm m}/0.3}$ at the few percent level, providing a powerful consistency check for the DES-only constraints. The Fred Young Submillimeter Telescope (FYST) at the Cerro-Chajnantor Atacama Telescope prime (CCAT- prime) Facility will host Prime-Cam as a powerful, first generation camera with imaging polarimeters working at several wavelengths and spectroscopic instruments aimed at intensity mapping during the Epoch of Reionization. Here we introduce the 850 GHz (350 micron) instrument module. This will be the highest frequency module in Prime-Cam and the most novel for astronomical and cosmological surveys, taking full advantage of the atmospheric transparency at the high 5600 meter CCAT-prime siting on Cerro Chajnantor. With a 1.1 deg diameter field, the 850 GHz module will deploy ~40,000 Kinetic Inductance Detectors (KIDs) with Silicon platelet feedhorn coupling (both fabricated at NIST), and will provide unprecedented broadband intensity and polarization measurement capabilities. The 850 GHz module will be key to addressing pressing astrophysical questions regarding galaxy formation, Big Bang cosmology, and star formation within our own Galaxy. We provide the first combined cosmological analysis of South Pole Telescope (SPT) and Planck cluster catalogs. The aim is to provide an independent calibration for Planck scaling relations, exploiting the cosmological constraining power of the SPT-SZ cluster catalog and its dedicated weak lensing (WL) and X-ray follow-up observations. We build a new version of the Planck cluster likelihood. In the $\nu \Lambda$CDM scenario, focusing on the mass slope and mass bias of Planck scaling relations, we find $\alpha_{\text{SZ}} = 1.49_{-0.10}^{+0.07}$ and $(1-b)_{\text{SZ}} = 0.69_{-0.14}^{+0.07}$ respectively. The results for the mass slope show a $\sim 4 \, \sigma$ departure from the self-similar evolution, $\alpha_{\text{SZ}} \sim 1.8$. This shift is mainly driven by the matter density value preferred by SPT data, $\Omega_m = 0.30 \pm 0.03$, lower than the one obtained by Planck data alone, $\Omega_m = 0.37_{-0.06}^{+0.02}$. The mass bias constraints are consistent both with outcomes of hydrodynamical simulations and external WL calibrations, $(1-b) \sim 0.8$, and with results required by the Planck cosmic microwave background cosmology, $(1-b) \sim 0.6$. From this analysis, we obtain a new catalog of Planck cluster masses $M_{500}$. We estimate the ratio between the published Planck $M_{\text{SZ}}$ masses and our derived masses $M_{500}$, as a "measured mass bias", $(1-b)_M$. We analyse the mass, redshift and detection noise dependence of $(1-b)_M$, finding an increasing trend towards high redshift and low mass. Purpose Providing practitioners with an adjunctive guide that will aid implanters in the ability to predict and, immediately recognize, what suboptimal needle placement looks like (based on visualization of needle/lead placement and the patient's sensory and motor responses), allow cultivation of a more complete and comprehensive level of understanding of the sacral neuromodulation procedure as a whole, and inversely provide a guide for what true optimal needle/lead placement should currently demonstrate (based on current International Continence Society guidelines). Methods More than 400 patients underwent sacral neuromodulation procedures from 2011-2018 by a practitioner who is in the top 5% of implanting physicians in the United States. Common stimulation patterns with motor and sensory responses were observed in patients with suboptimal needle placement intraoperatively. Results Reproducible stimulation patterns were observed with common suboptimal needle placement intraoperatively. This allowed the implanting practitioner to immediately identify and correct the needle placement intraoperatively to achieve optimal needle placement and optimal motor and sensory responses for the patients. Conclusion By considering the 3-dimensional spatial trajectory of the S3 nerve, and following this presented guide, the most optimal lead placement with consistently reproducible outcomes that include S3 motor and sensory response on all 4 leads at less than, or equal to, 2 volts can be achieved and can potentially maximize the life of the device while potentially affording patients a more successful outcome.

Continuous-flow microfluidic devices based on integrated channel networks are becoming increasingly prevalent in research in the biological sciences. At present, these devices are physically laid out by hand by domain experts who understand both the underlying technology and the biological functions that will execute on fabricated devices. The lack of a design science that is specific to microfluidic technology creates a substantial barrier to entry. To address this concern, this article introduces Directed Placement, a physical design algorithm that leverages the natural “directedness” in most modern microfluidic designs: fluid enters at designated inputs, flows through a linear or tree-based network of channels and fluidic components, and exits the device at dedicated outputs. Directed placement creates physical layouts that share many principle similarities to those created by domain experts. Directed placement allows components to be placed closer to their neighbors compared to existing layout algorithms based on planar graph embedding or simulated annealing, leading to an average reduction in laid-out fluid channel length of 91% while improving area utilization by 8% on average. Directed placement is compatible with both passive and active microfluidic devices and is compatible with a variety of mainstream manufacturing technologies.

Due to lack of visual or auditory perceptual information, many tasks require interpersonal coordination and teaming. Dyadic verbal and/or auditory communication typically results in the two people becoming informationally coupled. This experiment examined coupling by using a two-person remote navigation task where one participant blindly drove a remote-controlled car while another participant provided auditory, visual, or a combination of both cues (bimodal). Under these conditions, we evaluated performance using easy, moderate, and hard task difficulties. We predicted that the visual condition would have higher performance measures overall, and the bimodal condition would have higher performance as difficulty increased. Results indicated that visual coupling performs better overall compared to auditory coupling and that bimodal coupling showed increased performance as task difficulty went from moderate to hard. When auditory coupling occurs, the frequency at which teams communicate affects performance— the faster teams spoke, the better they performed, even with visual communication available.

We estimate the polarized power by stacking maps at known source positions, and correct for noise bias by subtracting the mean polarized power at random positions in the maps. We show that the method is unbiased using a set of simulated maps with similar noise properties to the real SPTpol maps. We find a flux-weighted mean-squared polarization fraction 〈p2〉= [8.9 ± 1.1] × 10−4 at 95 GHz and [6.9 ± 1.1] × 10−4 at 150 GHz for the full sample. This is consistent with the values obtained for a subsample of active galactic nuclei. For dusty sources, we find 95 per cent upper limits of 〈p2〉95 l 16.9 × 10−3 and 〈p2〉150 l 2.6 × 10−3. We find no evidence that the polarization fraction depends on the source flux or observing frequency. The 1σ upper limit on measured mean-squared polarization fraction at 150 GHz implies that extragalactic foregrounds will be subdominant to the CMB E and B mode polarization power spectra out to at least l ≲ 5700 (l ≲ 4700) and l ≲ 5300 (l ≲ 3600), respectively, at 95 (150) GHz.

Background Cerebral amyloid angiopathy (CAA) causes cognitive decline, but it is not known whether it is associated with neuropsychiatric symptoms (NPS). Methods and Results Participants with CAA, mild cognitive impairment, mild dementia due to Alzheimer's disease, and normal cognition were recruited from stroke and dementia clinics and community advertising. NPS were captured using the Neuropsychiatric Inventory Questionnaire short form. The number and total severity (number multiplied by severity of each symptom [mild, moderate, or severe]) of NPS were analyzed using generalized linear regression with a negative binomial link and multiple linear regression, adjusting for age, sex, and education. A total of 109 participants (43 with CAA, 15 with Alzheimer's disease, 28 with mild cognitive impairment, and 23 with normal cognition) (mean age 71.1 [SD=7.6]; 53.2% male) were included. The most frequent NPS in CAA were depression/dysphoria (48.8%), irritability/lability (37.2%), agitation/aggression (37.2%), apathy/indifference (34.9%), and anxiety (32.6%). In adjusted models, patients with CAA had 3.2 times (95% CI, 1.7–6.0) more NPS symptoms and 3.1 units (95% CI, 1.0–5.1) higher expected severity score. The number of NPS was similar to patients with mild cognitive impairment (3.2 times higher than controls) but less than in patients with Alzheimer's disease dementia (4.1 times higher than controls). Within patients with CAA, there were 1.20 times (95% CI, 1.01–1.32) more NPS per 1% increase in white matter hyperintensity as a percentage of intracranial volume. Conclusions NPS are common in CAA, with a similar prevalence as in mild cognitive impairment. The association of the total number of NPS with higher white matter hyperintensity volume suggests that white matter damage may underlie some of these symptoms.

We present the first measurements of asteroids in millimeter wavelength (mm) data from the South Pole Telescope (SPT), which is used primarily to study the cosmic microwave background (CMB). We analyze maps of two $\sim270$ deg$^2$ sky regions near the ecliptic plane, each observed with the SPTpol camera $\sim100$ times over one month. We subtract the mean of all maps of a given field, removing static sky signal, and then average the mean-subtracted maps at known asteroid locations. We detect three asteroids$\text{ -- }$(324) Bamberga, (13) Egeria, and (22) Kalliope$\text{ -- }$with signal-to-noise ratios (S/N) of 11.2, 10.4, and 6.1, respectively, at 2.0 mm (150 GHz); we also detect (324) Bamberga with S/N of 4.1 at 3.2 mm (95 GHz). We place constraints on these asteroids' effective emissivities, brightness temperatures, and light curve modulation amplitude. Our flux density measurements of (324) Bamberga and (13) Egeria roughly agree with predictions, while our measurements of (22) Kalliope suggest lower flux, corresponding to effective emissivities of $0.66 \pm 0.11$ at 2.0 mm and $, 21 pages, 9 figures

The P3-based concealed information test (CIT) is an accurate indirect measure of non-evaluative memories (e.g., knowledge of an incriminating item). Less clear and established, however, is the accuracy of indirect measures that rely on the P3-like late positive potentials (LPPs) in discriminating evaluative (e.g., pleasant or unpleasant) memories. Using an LPP-based evaluative oddball paradigm in which participants were truthful on half of the trials about their evaluation toward pictures and concealed their evaluation on the other half of trials toward pictures, we applied an intra-individual Bayesian scheme to classify whether participants' evaluations were congruent or incongruent with a preceding context. LPPs were predictably larger to evaluatively incongruent than congruent pictures, and this LPP effect was reduced during misreporting presumably because of enhanced cognitive load. Notably, across two experiments the sensitivity (80%) was respectable during truth telling, but poor during concealment (sensitivity = 35%). Taken together, these data suggest that indirect measures such as the LPP-based evaluative oddball may be useful for detecting individual evaluation, but more work is warranted that explores conditions under which concealment of evaluation may be more accurately assessed.

Informed by two recent PhD graduates, this study examines interview data gathered across four years and considers: (a) the ways in which these academics describe changes when writing in English for publication purposes, and (b) the ways in which they link changes in their writing to participation in research networks. While both scholars mentioned advances when writing in English, the first scholar emphasized how regular participation in his international network helped him consolidate his thinking; he also described how an active, critical advisor shaped his manuscripts and provided him with publication opportunities. The second participant also described the impact of active, critical mentors—for her a journal editor—on her research. She also described how large-scale collaborations, predominantly with other women, were productive when publishing.

We present a detailed overview of the science goals and predictions for the Prime-Cam direct detection camera/spectrometer being constructed by the CCAT-prime collaboration for dedicated use on the Fred Young Submillimeter Telescope (FYST). The FYST is a wide-field, 6-m aperture submillimeter telescope being built (first light in mid-2024) by an international consortium of institutions led by Cornell University and sited at more than 5600 meters on Cerro Chajnantor in northern Chile. Prime-Cam is one of two instruments planned for FYST and will provide unprecedented spectroscopic and broadband measurement capabilities to address important astrophysical questions ranging from Big Bang cosmology through reionization and the formation of the first galaxies to star formation within our own Milky Way galaxy. Prime-Cam on the FYST will have a mapping speed that is over ten times greater than existing and near-term facilities for high-redshift science and broadband polarimetric imaging at frequencies above 300 GHz. Widespread regions of the southeast United States have soils deficient in selenium (Se), necessitating Se supplementation to cattle grazing in these areas. Adequate dietary Se is required for optimal immune function, growth, and fertility. In forages, Se is predominantly found in the organic form (OSe), which is known to increase bioavailability. However, the inorganic form (ISe) is typically found in commercial mineral mixes. We previously reported that supplementation with an isomolar 1:1 mix (MIX) of ISe (sodium selenite, Prince Se Concentrate; Prince Agri Products, Inc., Quincy, IL) and OSe (SEL-PLEX, Alltech Inc., Nicholasville, KY) increases early luteal phase concentrations of progesterone (P4) above that in cows on ISe or OSe alone. Research has demonstrated that increased early luteal phase P4 advances embryonic development. A series of experiments were performed to investigate the effect of form of supplemental Se on 1) the early bovine corpus luteum and 2) the uterine endometrium and conceptus at maternal recognition of pregnancy. The objective of Experiment 1 was to investigate the effect of form of supplemental Se on the transcriptome of the bovine corpus luteum (CL) with the goal of elucidating form of Se-regulated luteal processes affecting fertility. Results indicated that MIX-supplemented cows had increased mRNA abundance of transcripts regulating cholesterol biosynthesis and increased CL content of several immune-response transcripts compared to cows supplemented with ISe alone. These results suggest that the MIX-induced increase in early luteal phase P4 is due to an increase in cholesterol availability and that the form of dietary Se affects immune function of the CL. Experiment 2 examined the effect of form of supplemental Se on the uterine endometrium and conceptus development at maternal recognition of pregnancy. The objective was to determine changes induced by the form of supplemental Se on the bovine endometrium and developing conceptus on day 17 of pregnancy. Form of supplemental Se differentially affected the transcriptome of the uterine endometrium at maternal recognition of pregnancy, resulting in form-induced effects on embryonic length. Combining the results from both experiments, supplemental Se in the MIX versus ISe form alters the transcriptome of the bovine CL on day 7 of the estrous cycle, the transcriptome of the uterine endometrium at maternal recognition of pregnancy and advances embryonic development. In conclusion, incorporating Se into a mineral supplementation strategy as MIX is an easy transition for producers that can ultimately increase the fertility levels in their herds.
