Objective To provide a description of laparoscopic myomectomy and the two hemostatic techniques performed over the last 11 years in a single reference center for gynecology and obstetrics and to evaluate the factors associated with favorable surgical outcomes. Study Design We retrospectively analyzed 625 who underwent laparoscopic myomectomy from January 2009 to December 2019. Results Of 625 patients, 437 (69.8%) were symptomatic. The most common symptoms were heavy uterine bleeding (33.2%). 188 patients (30.1%) were asymptomatic but were operated in 77 cases (12.3%) for rapid fibroid growth, 32 (5.1%) for uterine cavity distortion and, in 45 cases (8.6%), the myomectomy was indicated during a surgery for other medical reason due to its accessibility. In 173 cases (27.9%) intramyometrial adrenaline was injected and in 246 cases (39.7%) a temporary blockage of the uterus blood supply was performed. Only 35 (5.6%) patients presented complications, of which, 14 (40%) were hemorrhagic. These hemorrhagic complications were more frequent when intramyometrial adrenaline was used (5,8%) than after the temporary clipping of the uterine arteries and infundibulopelvic ligaments (0,8%; p In the multivariate logistic regression model, the only factor statistically associated with favorable surgical outcome was the use of temporary clipping of the uterine arteries at their origin and infundibulopelvic ligaments as hemostatic technique during the surgery. Conclusion Laparoscopic myomectomy was generally safe with a high level of favorable outcomes. The temporary clipping of uterine arteries and infundibulopelvic ligaments presented fewer intraoperative bleedings compared with injecting intramyometrial adrenaline.

This paper aims to document a case study of the development, implementation, and evaluation of the “Get Angry, Get Outrageous” Campaign, which promotes a social issue: money donation from the Chilean population to a national charitable institution. This campaign represents a case study that exemplifies how social marketing and social representation theory are combined. Based on the Total Process Planning Model (TPPM; Dooley, Jones & Desmarais, 2009), this research considered four phases: scoping, developing, implementing, and evaluating phases. Participants were examined twice: a) interviewed (n = 64) during the developing phase; and surveyed (n = 363) during the evaluating phase. Facebook and YouTube were included for the campaign. The most valuable finding was to prove how this approach was applied to a social marketing endeavor based on a social initiative such as charity. It is expected that this work provides readers new insights to create similar issues and campaigns in future interventions.

In a world full of signals and messages surrounded by mass medias as well as digital media, advertising literacy is considered a powerful tool for social communication. Based on today’s context, this exploratory research compared two advertising approaches: (a) the global phenomenon of femvertising, which empowers women in advertising, and (b) the emergence of the conception of a new man towards a more inclusive society. Drawing from Schema Congruence Theory, both paths were studied considering the importance of ads in the representation of gender roles and stereotypes, as value perceptions of justice, impartiality, traditional acceptance, cultural acceptance, family acceptance, and morality among young people in Chile. Participants were 110 students mainly from communication studies, who were exposed to six advertising messages shown on hybrid type of media, including social media. Quantitative statistical analysis was performed. Overall, findings revealed a favorable tendency of congruence between roles and stereotypes that students expected to be represented in both approaches, as well as with values that they associated with both types of perspectives. However, it is important to consider differences found among gender, student´s age and student´s school year variables for each approach. This study opens new paths to continue exploring further aspects of digital advertising literacy such as affective components, visual elements, among others.

This article shows an overview of the women’s political periodical press in Chile between 1900 and 1929. It considers a cadaster, a definition and a typology. Feminine newspapers and magazines were at the same time means of expression and a space where different groups constructed their identities. We examine factors that help to understand the action of women in the press, and also different types of newspapers, that all of them were the expression of a new social phenomenon: women using the press to speak up.

Engaging consumers through social media is a successful way for firms to get users attention and allow them to participate in content creation by two-way communication. However, social network sites (SNS) also challenges brands as users have the ability to change the narrative expressed by a firm with non-favorable content. This paper presents a process-oriented model to study one of the most frequent types of negative word of mouth: complaint behaviors. Given the collaborative and social characteristics of SNS, and drawing on literature in social psychology and consumer behavior, we theorize that cognitive aspects (e.g. collective efficacy) largely mediate the effects of dispositional factors (perceived utility) on complaining. A survey to a nationally representative sample of online Chileans show that even after controlling for factors recognized by previous research able to influence negative word of mouth (e.g., trust in companies, altruism or exposition to complaints on SNS), the level of collective efficacy affects consumers’ willingness to complain in SNS and relate to others their experiences with brands, services or products.

- Abstract

Background\ud Huntington's disease is a rare, severe, inherited neurodegenerative disease in which we assessed the safety and efficacy of grafting human fetal ganglionic eminence intrastriatally.\ud \ud Methods\ud Patients at the early stage of the disease were enrolled in the Multicentric Intracerebral Grafting in Huntington's Disease trial, a delayed‐start phase II randomized study. After a run‐in period of 12 months, patients were randomized at month 12 to either the treatment group (transplanted at month 13–month 14) or the control group and secondarily treated 20 months later (month 33–month 34). The primary outcome was total motor score compared between both groups 20 months postrandomization (month 32). Secondary outcomes included clinical, imaging, and electrophysiological findings and a comparison of pregraft and postgraft total motor score slopes during the entire study period (month 0–month 52) regardless of the time of transplant.\ud \ud Results\ud Of 54 randomized patients, 45 were transplanted; 26 immediately (treatment) and 19 delayed (control). Mean total motor score at month 32 did not differ between groups (treated controls difference in means adjusted for M12: +2.9 [95% confidence interval, −2.8 to 8.6]; P = 0.31). Its rate of decline after transplantation was similar to that before transplantation. A total of 27 severe adverse events were recorded in the randomized patients, 10 of which were related to the transplant procedure. Improvement of procedures during the trial significantly decreased the frequency of surgical events. We found antihuman leucocytes antigen antibodies in 40% of the patients.\ud \ud Conclusion\ud No clinical benefit was found in this trial. This may have been related to graft rejection. Ectopia and high track number negatively influence the graft outcome. Procedural adjustments substantially improved surgical safety.
