2. Evaluation of Variation and Uncertainty in the Potential Yield of Soybeans in South Korea Using Multi-model Ensemble Climate Change Scenarios

Recently, information provided by various Global Climate Models (GCMs) has been applied to various research fields. A Multi-model Ensemble (MME) approach, which assesses the impact of climate change on agricultural crop production using one or more climate datasets from GCMs, has been widely used. We estimated the changes in soybean potential yield at 16 sites using the climate change scenarios, and then predicted the relative change in predicted potential yield for each single GCM, producing an observation climate-based simulated potential yield. Lastly, we assessed the degree of uncertainty for changes in potential yield predicted from MME approach. In the results, although there were differences in the values themselves, the Standard Deviations (SD) of predicted soybean potential yield for each individual GCM were not significantly different from the SD of observation climate-based simulated potential yield, and there were no correlations between the predicted soybean potential yield for each individual GCMs and observation climate-based simulated potential yield in most sites. The estimation error decreased as the number of participating GCMs in the MME increased, but it did not decrease to zero. The means, but not the variance, of the MME of potential yield of soybean was similar to that of the observation climatebased simulated potential yield. The relative changes for predicted soybean potential yield for individual GCMs values of the Representative Concentration Pathways 4.5 and 8.5 scenarios increased in the northern regions of South Korea, such as Chuncheon and Hongcheon. In contrast, differences between them were not significant in most southwestern regions.

3. Drawing Strain Distribution Model for the Two-Pass Drawing Process

For the large reduction in tube cross section, the tube drawing process is usually performed by two successive passes, so called first drawing and second drawing. In multi-pass drawing process, the reduction balance is important to prevent drawing cracks. Therefore in this study, the model for uniform reduction distribution in two-pass drawing process has been developed on the basis of cross sectional variation of drawn tube. For the given product geometry the model provides optimal diameter and thickness that can evenly distribute drawing reductions. The capability of model is well confirmed by finite element analysis of tube drawing process. Criteria curves at various limit strains to determine whether the drawn tube would fail during drawing process are also proposed by using newly developed model.

Bose-Einstein correlations (BEC) between final state particles in the reaction e+e- -> W+W- -> q_1 anti-q_2 q_3 anti-q_4 have been studied. Data corresponding to a total integrated luminosity of 550 pb^{-1}, recorded by the DELPHI detector at centre-of-mass energies ranging from 189 to 209 GeV, were analysed. An indication for inter-W BEC between like-sign particles has been found at the level of 2.4 standard deviations of the combined statistical and systematic uncertainties., 25 pages, 11 figures, Accepted by Eur. This paper describes flavour independent searches for hadronically decaying neutral Higgs bosons in the data collected by the DELPHI experiment at LEP, at centre-of-mass energies between 189 and 209 GeV. The collected data-set corresponds to an integrated luminosity of around 610 pb^{-1}. The e+e- -> hA and e+e- -> hZ processes are considered, with direct Higgs boson decays into hadrons. No evidence for Higgs boson production is found, and cross-section limits are set as a function of the Higgs boson masses. No explicit assumptions are made on the underlying physics beyond the Standard Model, allowing interpretation of the data in a large class of models., 26 pages, 10 figures

Hadronic events from the data collected with the DELPHI detector at LEP within the energy range from 89 GeV to 209 GeV are selected, their jet rates are determined and compared to predictions of four different event generators. One of them is the recently developed APACIC++ generator which performs a massive matrix element calculation matched to a parton shower followed by string fragmentation. The four-jet rate is used to measure alpha_s in the next-to-leading-order approximation yielding alpha_s(M_Z^2) = 0.1175 +/- 0.0030. The running of alpha_s determined by using four-jet events has been tested. The logarithmic energy slope is measured to be d\alpha_s^{-1} / d\log E_{cm} = 1.14 +/- 0.36. Since the analysis is based on four-jet final states it represents an alternative approach to previous DELPHI alpha_s measurements using event shape distributions., Comment: 29 pages, 14 figures, Accepted by Eur. Oscillations in the B-s(0)- system were studied in events selected from about 4.3 million hadronic Z(0) decays registered by DELPHI between 1992 and 2000. This paper presents updates of two published analyses ([11, 12]). The first analysis, which utilizes leptons emitted with large momentum transverse to a jet, was improved by means of a better algorithm for the vertex reconstuction and a new algorithm for flavour-tagging at production time. The second analysis, which utilizes D-s-lepton events, was improved by optimizing the treatment of proper time resolution. No signal of B-s(0) oscillations was observed and limits on the mass difference between the physical B-s(0) states were obtained to be: Deltam(s)>8.0 ps-1 at the 95% C.L. with a sensitivity of Deltam(s)= 9.1 ps(-1) in the high p(t) lepton analysis and Deltam(s)>4.9 ps(-1) at the 95% C.L. with a sensitivity of Deltam(s)=8.6 ps(-1) in the D-s-lepton analysis. Previously published results on these analyses are superseded. The combination of these results with those obtained in other independent analyses previously performed in DELPHI (D-s-hadron, exclusive B-s(0), inclusive vertex) gives: Deltam(s)>8.5 ps(-1) at the 95% C.L. with a sensitivity of Deltam(s)=12.0 ps(-1).

8. A differential scanning calorimetry study of hydrogen-induced amorphizatiqn in GdMn2, PrMn2 and NdMn2 laves phases

Comparative studies on hydrogen-induced amorphization in the GdMn2, PrMn2 and NdMn2 Laves phases were performed using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy measurements in order to understand hydrogen-induced amorphization phenomena. In all of the RMn2 (R ≡ Gd, Pr, Nd) Laves phases, two exothermic reaction peaks, which are related to crystalline hydride formation and the formation of microcrystals of RH2 and α-Mn, are observed in the DSC trace performed in a H2 atmosphere. Only GdMn2 shows the phenomenon of hydrogeninduced amorphization when hydrogenated isothermally at an elevated temperature and a high hydrogen pressure. Hydrogen-induced amorphization was not observed in the PrMn2 and NdMn2 Laves phases. PrH2, NdH2 and α-Mn grow in crystalline hydride phases in the PrMn2 and NdMn2 phases. The activation energies for the formation of microcrystalline phases in GdMn2, PrMn2 and NdMn2, determined by Kissinger's method, were found to be 21.6, 42.7 and 39.4 kcal mol−1 respectively. From the present results, the mechanism of hydrogen-induced amorphization and the atomic environments around hydrogen atoms in the amorphous state are discussed. The mechanism of amorphization would be related to the motion of manganese atoms within short range distances. The surroundings of the hydrogen atoms seem to be similar to the configurations of hydrogen atoms in GdH2.

Hadronic event shape distributions are determined from data in e +e- collisions between 183 and 207 GeV. From these the strong coupling αs is extracted in O(αs2), NLLA and matched O(αs2)+NLLA theory. Hadronisation corrections evaluated with fragmentation model generators as well as an analytical power ansatz are applied. Comparing these measurements to those obtained at and around Mz allows a combined measurement of αs from all DELPHI data and a test of the energy dependence of the strong coupling. © Springer-Verlag / Società Italiana di Fisica 2004.

The forward-backward asymmetries of the processes e+e - → Z → bb̄ and e+e- → Z → cc̄ were measured from a sample of hadronic Z decays collected by the DELPHI experiment between 1993 and 1995. Enriched samples of bb̄ and cc̄ events were obtained using lifetime information. The tagging of and and c quarks in these samples was based on the semileptonic decay channels b/c → X + μ and b/c → X + e combined with charge flow information from the hemisphere opposite to the lepton. Combining the AFBbb̄ and AFBcc̄ measurements presented in this paper with published results based on 1991 and 1992 DELPHI data samples, the following pole asymmetries were obtained: AFB0,b = 0.1021 ± 0.0052 (stat) ± 0.0024 (syst) A FB0,c = 0.0728 ± 0.0086 (stat) ± 0.0063 (syst) The effective value of the weak mixing angle derived from these measurements is sin2 θW,efflept = 0.23170 ± 0.00097.

Oscillations in the B0_s - anti-B0_s system were studied in events selected from about 4.3 million hadronic Z^0 decays registered by DELPHI between 1992 and 2000. This paper presents updates of two published analyses ([11,12]). The first analysis, which utilizes leptons emitted with large momentum transverse to a jet, was improved by means of a better algorithm for the vertex reconstuction and a new algorithm for flavour-tagging at production time. The second analysis, which utilizes D_s-lepton events, was improved by optimizing the treatment of proper time resolution. No signal of B0_s oscillations was observed and limits on the mass difference between the physical B0_s states were obtained to be: \Delta m_s > 8.0 ps^{-1} at the 95% C.L. with a sensitivity of \Delta m_s = 9.1 ps^{-1} in the high p_t lepton analysis and \Delta m_s > 4.9 ps^{-1} at the 95% C.L. with a sensitivity of \Delta m_s = 8.6 ps^{-1} in the D_s-lepton analysis. Previously published results on these analyses are superseed. The combination of these results with those obtained in other independent analyses previously performed in DELPHI (D_s-hadron, exclusive B0_s, inclusive vertex) gives: \Delta m_s > 8.5 ps^{-1} at the 95% C.L. with a sensitivity of \Delta m_s = 12.0 ps^{-1}., Comment: 36 pages, 14 figures, Accepted by Eur. Searches for pair-production of supersymmetric particles under the assumption of non-conservation of R-parity with a dominant LLEbar or UbarDbarDbar term have been performed using the data collected by the DELPHI experiment at LEP in e+e- collisions at centre-of-mass energies from 192 up to 208 GeV. No excess of data above Standard Model expectations was observed. Tau-pair production in the process e+e- -> e+e-tau+tau- was studied using data collected by the DELPHI experiment at LEP2 during the years 1997 - 2000. The corresponding integrated luminosity is 650 pb^{-1}. The values of the cross-section obtained are found to be in agreement with QED predictions. Limits on the anomalous magnetic and electric dipole moments of the tau lepton are deduced., 20 pages, 9 figures, Accepted by Eur. Phys. J. C

The tau lepton lifetime has been measured with the e+e- -> tau+tau- events collected by the DELPHI detector at LEP in the years 1991-1995. Three different methods have been exploited, using both one-prong and three-prong tau decay channels. Two measurements have been made using events in which both taus decay to a single charged particle. Combining these measurements gave tau_tau (1 prong) = 291.8 +/- 2.3 (stat) +/- 1.5 (sys) fs. A third measurement using taus which decayed to three charged particles yielded tau_tau (3 prong) = 288.6 +/- 2.4 (stat) +/- 1.3 (sys) fs. These were combined with previous DELPHI results to measure the tau lifetime, using the full LEP1 data sample, to be tau_tau = 290.9 +/- 1.4 (stat) +/- 1.0 (sys) fs., 27 pages, 7 figures
