Até meados de 1980, a forma de T invertido manteve-se como uma das seções transversais menos investigadas. As vigas T invertidas possuem inúmeras vantagens, entretanto elas também representam sérios desafios no mecanismo de transferência de carga, nessas vigas a teoria da elasticidade segundo a qual “estruturas planas permanecem planas” torna-se questionável devido a distorções geométricas induzidas pela carga. As seções de peças de madeira disponíveis comercialmente possuem dimensões limitadas, podendo esta limitação ser contornada com a utilização de peças compostas, que atuam como um único elemento ao serem solicitadas. O objetivo deste trabalho é avaliar o desempenho mecânico de vigas compostas por 2 espécies de madeira (sucupira e angelim ferro) coladas entre si. As vigas em seção T foram submetidas ao ensaio de flexão em 1 ponto de forma biapoiada.

O presente artigo teve por objetivo verificar a viabilidade financeira na utilização de energia renovável (placas fotovoltaicas) e na utilização de produtos ecologicamente corretos, que consumam menos água. O estudo foi aplicado numa área de utilização pública, qual seja um Porto Internacional de Cargas, onde estão dispostos diversos Orgãos Públicos, além de possuir trânsito contínuo de viajantes e veículos. Utilizou-se como metodologia para análise do investimento o modelo de Bertolini (2009), que foi adaptado para ser aplicado a uma instituição pública, além de entrevista, aplicação de questionário e revisão bilbiográfica. Como resultado, verificou-se a viabilidade financeira para a substituição e aquisição de equipamentos que gerem economia de água, bem como instalação de placas fotovoltaicas. Espera-se que o presente estudo possa auxiliar as demais instituições públicas na busca de medidas que racionalizem a utilização de recursos naturais, gerando energia e economizando dinheiro dos contribuintes.

O presente artigo busca identificar e apresentar as manifestações patológicas existentes na ponte Dom Affonso Felippe Gregory situado na divisa do estado do Maranhão e Tocantins sendo um importante corredor econômico para as cidades da região. Para identificação de patologias em pontes ou qualquer outro tipo de estrutura, é necessário a realização de inspeções periódicas, devendo esta análise ser realizada de forma integral, sendo inspecionada a superestrutura, a mesoestrutura e a infraestrutura. Esta identificação patológica na ponte Dom Affonso Felippe Gregory recorreu-se a estudos de bibliografias relacionadas ao tema, além de coleta de dados realizada por meio de visitas, utilizando os métodos visuais e registros fotográficos. Os resultados mostram as patologias existentes sendo elas a exsudação na estrada, buracos na estrada, desagregação do concreto, desgaste do concreto por abrasão, fissuras na estrutura, falhas nas juntas de dilatação, corrosão das armaduras de aço. Pode-se concluir que a maioria dos problemas encontrados decorrem da falta de manutenção e da má execução da ponte.

El miedo al desabastecimiento alimentario durante la pandemia de covid- 19 reforzó la visibilidad del sector agrícola como una de las actividades esenciales para los Estados europeos. La situación de la mano de obra agrícola en Europa, en su mayoría compuesta por trabajadores migrantes procedentes de países del sur global, se convirtió en objeto de debate político, mediático y académico. Las investigaciones publicadas en este contexto nos muestran que la crisis sanitaria reforzó todavía más la precariedad de las condiciones de trabajo y vida de los jornaleros extranjeros. Sin embargo, hasta el momento, no se ha prestado la misma atención a cómo los trabajadores migrantes de la agricultura aprovecharon políticamente la centralidad pública que les otorgó la crisis de la covid-19. Tomando como caso de estudio cuatro regiones agroexportadoras de España, este trabajo analiza el ciclo de protestas y movilizaciones jornaleras entre junio y diciembre de 2020. Lo que demostramos en este artículo es cómo los trabajadores y sus organizaciones de apoyo consiguieron transformar la fuerte visibilidad pública durante la pandemia (compuesta de imágenes positivas y negativas de los jornaleros migrantes) en una ventana de oportunidad política para reclamar derechos y protestar por la situación de precariedad estructural en el sector.

Ozone, a triatomic oxygen molecule, is a powerful oxidant generated by water electrolysis or produced in situ using the corona discharge method. Typical applications in water treatment involve the disinfection, disposal of virus, bacteria, and hydrogen sulfide removal and are responsible for odorous compounds in septage tanks and oxidation lagoons. Recently, electrocoagulation and cavitation have evolved to increase the efficiency of ozone gas disinfection. Electrocoagulation (EC) permits the sanitation of wastewater, the destruction of oil-water emulsions, and heavy metals present in mining waste and manufacturing industry. EC is useful when traditional disinfection methods using chemical agents or biological treatment is not completely efficient. Using the EC technology proposed by Reingeniería en Saneamiento Ltd., replacement of sacrifice electrodes is not estimated. Cavitation and ozone systems, as beneficial processes in water treatment technology are supported by electroflotation, electrocoagulation, and electrochemistry in urban wastewater plants to accomplish effective solutions in different processes. Along with the chapter, how modular plants can be designed to achieve the correct purification system based on a previous diagnosis of the process is explained. Finally, due to complexity of treatment process, automation need to advance from manual control to programmable logic controllers if control architectures for water treatment system advance in the same way the depuration process is properly controlled.

DNA nanostructures are a promising tool to deliver molecular payloads to cells. DNA origami structures, where long single-stranded DNA is folded into a compact nanostructure, present an attractive approach to package genes; however, effective delivery of genetic material into cell nuclei has remained a critical challenge. Here, we describe the use of DNA nanostructures encoding an intact human gene and a fluorescent protein encoding gene as compact templates for gene integration by CRISPR-mediated homology-directed repair (HDR). Our design includes CRISPR-Cas9 ribonucleoprotein binding sites on DNA nanostructures to increase shuttling into the nucleus. We demonstrate efficient shuttling and genomic integration of DNA nanostructures using transfection and electroporation. These nanostructured templates display lower toxicity and higher insertion efficiency compared to unstructured double-stranded DNA templates in human primary cells. Furthermore, our study validates virus-like particles as an efficient method of DNA nanostructure delivery, opening the possibility of delivering nanostructures in vivo to specific cell types. Together, these results provide new approaches to gene delivery with DNA nanostructures and establish their use as HDR templates, exploiting both their design features and their ability to encode genetic information. This work also opens a door to translate other DNA nanodevice functions, such as biosensing, into cell nuclei.

Bathymetry (seafloor depth), is a critical parameter providing the geospatial context for a multitude of marine scientific studies. Since 1997, the International Bathymetric Chart of the Arctic Ocean (IBCAO) has been the authoritative source of bathymetry for the Arctic Ocean. IBCAO has merged its efforts with the Nippon Foundation-GEBCO-Seabed 2030 Project, with the goal of mapping all of the oceans by 2030. Here we present the latest version (IBCAO Ver. 4.0), with more than twice the resolution (200 × 200 m versus 500 × 500 m) and with individual depth soundings constraining three times more area of the Arctic Ocean (∼19.8% versus 6.7%), than the previous IBCAO Ver. 3.0 released in 2012. Modern multibeam bathymetry comprises ∼14.3% in Ver. 4.0 compared to ∼5.4% in Ver. 3.0. Thus, the new IBCAO Ver. 4.0 has substantially more seafloor morphological information that offers new insights into a range of submarine features and processes; for example, the improved portrayal of Greenland fjords better serves predictive modelling of the fate of the Greenland Ice Sheet.

Para realizar esse objetivo é feita uma discussão sobre o processo de transformação da região. É argüido que se trata de um processo que se repetiu ao longo do tempo em outras regiões do globo e que não se constitui em um movimento único na história, a não ser pelas especificidades locais. A própria irracionalidade desse avanço, que constitui e define em grande parte o objeto de estudo dessas ciências sociais, ou ao menos a tensão central em torno da qual é elaborada, é reveladora dos limites, das franjas de possibilidades reais que se colocam diante de nossa sociedade. Concluímos que trabalhar esse tema, os estudos amazônicos, dos de maior envergadura para a área ambiental, pode levar a entrever não apenas problemas presentes na região de maior floresta tropical do mundo. De uma forma especial esse tema nos habilita também a discutir a atual crise industrial, política e social traduzida pelo que chamamos de dilema ambiental. To achieve this goal we make a prior discussion about the transformation of the region related to the advancement of our civilization on its territory. It¿s argued that this is a process that was repeated over the time in other regions of the world and that this is not a unique movement in history even if with local specificities. The irrationality of this process, that defines in large part the study object of this literature, or at least the tension around it¿s center, reveals the limits of our contemporary societies. We conclude that working with that subject can uncover not only problems in the region of the world's largest tropical rainforest, but it enables us also to discuss the current industrial, political and social crisis translated by the concept of environmental dilemma. Background Establishing whether a low-prevalence clinical condition is a risk factor for COVID-19 infection, or serious adverse outcomes, is difficult due to a limited number of patients, and lack of access to patient’s data by researchers. The National COVID Collaborative Cohort (N3C), a centralized national data resource to study COVID-19, provides access to structured clinical data derived from electronic health records. As of June 2021, N3C contains data on 6,193,738 patients (2,090,138 with COVID-19, 33.7%) from 55 participating sites (Figure 1). We describe the characteristics of patients with PNTMI based on COVID-19 infection status. Figure 1 N3C Basic Demographic Data Methods COVID-19 is defined by positive lab result (PCR, antigen, or antibody) or COVID-19 coding diagnosis, as defined by N3C. PNTMI phenotype was built with N3C Data Enclave concept set tool, and ATLAS (https://atlas.ohdsi.org/). We limited analysis to adults (18 years-old or older). We used de-identified data sets stripped of protected health information (PHI). We used N3C Data Enclave analytical tools for exploratory data analysis, and descriptive statistics. Results We identified five hundred and eighty six individuals from 19 sites fulfilling the PNTMI phenotype (9.46 cases per 100,000 people). After our age limit, 555 individuals were included for analysis (Figure 2). 340 were females (61.3%), 447 of white race (80.5%), and 30 were Hispanic (5.4%). Additional descriptive statistics and statistical significance testing are provided (Table 1). The most common concept were "Non-tuberculous mycobacterial pneumonia", and "Pulmonary Mycobacterium avium complex infection". Four sites accounted for more than 50% of identified patients (Figure 2). We identified 24 individuals with COVID-19 (4.32%), and 44 deaths in this cohort (7.9%). Further analysis to study impact of comorbidities, and differences in race and geographical location are warranted. N3C is a powerful research platform to study the impact of COVID-19 in special populations with low prevalence, and it can be used to study other populations of interest. In this work, we study the Schr��dinger equation $i\partial_t��=-����+��(t)\sum_{j=1}^J��_{x=a_j(t)}��$ on $L^2((0,1),C)$ where $��:[0,T]\longrightarrow R^+$ and $a_j:[0,T]\longrightarrow (0,1)$, $j=1,...,J$. We show how to permute the energy associated to different eigenmodes of the Schr��dinger equation via suitable choice of the functions $��$ and $a_j$. To the purpose, we mime the control processes introduced in [17] for a very similar equation where the Dirac potential is replaced by a smooth approximation supported in a neighborhood of $x=a(t)$. We also propose a Galerkin approximation that we prove to be convergent and illustrate the control process with some numerical simulations.

Manipulation of temperature can be used to actuate DNA origami nano-hinges containing gold nanoparticles. We develop a physical model of this system that uses partition function analysis of the interaction between the nano-hinge and nanoparticle to predict the probability that the nano-hinge is open at a given temperature. The model agrees well with experimental data and predicts experimental conditions that allow the actuation temperature of the nano-hinge to be tuned over a range of temperatures from $30$${}^{\circ}\mathrm{C}$ to $45$${}^{\circ}\mathrm{C}$. Additionally, the model reveals surprising physical constraints on the system. This combination of physical insight and predictive potential is likely to inform future designs that integrate nanoparticles into dynamic DNA origami structures. Furthermore, our modeling approach could be expanded to consider the incorporation, stability, and actuation of other types of functional elements or actuation mechanisms integrated into nucleic acid devices.

In this work, the Multi-Depot Green VRP with Pickups and Deliveries (MDGVRP-PD) is studied. It is a routing optimization problem in which the objective is to construct a set of vehicle routes considering multiple depots and one-to-one pickup and delivery operations that minimize emissions through fuel consumption, which depends on weight and travel distance. In one-to-one problems, goods must be transported between a single origin and its single associated destination. Practical considerations imply addressing the pickup and delivery of customers from multiple depots, where a logistics service company can efficiently combine its resources, thus reducing environmental pollution. To tackle this problem, we develop a mathematical programming formulation and matheuristic approach based on the POPMUSIC (Partial Optimization Metaheuristic under Special Intensification Conditions) framework. The results show that if the weight carried on the routes as part of the fitness measure is considered, our matheuristic approach provide an average percentage improvement in emissions of \(30.79\%\), compared to a fitness measure that only takes into account the distances of the routes.

Proteins from Melipona beecheii honey were purified by concanavalin A (conA) affinity chromatography and eluted with a stepwise glucose gradient into fractions named F2-F5. The conA-unbound fraction (F1) was further separated by molecular exclusion into fractions named MbF1-1,2 and MbF1-3. All fractions were evaluated for antibacterial activity against foodborne pathogens and antioxidant capacity. F1 fraction possessed highest antimicrobial activity against S. aureus, L. monocytogenes, S. Typhimurium, E. coli and P. aeruginosa with MIC’s 1.4 ± 0.2, 15 ± 1, 39 ± 2, 1 ± 0.1, and 75 ± 2 µg/mL, respectively. F1, MbF1-1,2 and MbF1-3 had bactericidal effect except against P. aeruginosa. When the antioxidant capacity of the fractions was determined, F2 had the highest antioxidant activity measured by DPPH radical scavenging activity (IC50 = 2.4 ± 0.4 µg/µL) and reducing power of Fe(III) (IC50 = 1.8 ± 0.2 µg/µL). We provide evidence that M. beecheii honey proteins possess broad spectrum antibacterial and antioxidant activity, the latter probably through their reducing agent and free radical scavenger properties.

En este trabajo se presenta una experiencia de investigación-acción en torno a la redacción y revisión de un informe de laboratorio escrito en un formato técnico específico llamado «Procedimiento Normalizado de Laboratorio» por estudiantes del ciclo formativo de formación profesional (FP) de grado medio «Laboratorio», perteneciente a la familia profesional química, siendo el profesor participante el autor de este artículo. Tras escribir el informe, los estudiantes realizaron un proceso de revisión entre pares, leyendo los de sus compañeros y dándoles a continuación retroalimentación para mejorarlos. Como se explica más adelante, los propósitos de la intervención eran tanto aumentar la competencia técnica delalumnado como permitirles progresar en términos de su alfabetización científica y de avanzar en su desarrollo como ciudadanos activos y responsables. En cuanto al análisis que se muestra en este trabajo, se orientó a estudiar la evolución de las características de dichos informes, en particular si aumentan su coherencia y la calidad de la información plasmada en ellos. Como resultados, se hallan mejoras en algunas dimensiones de los informes de los estudiantes después de haber participado en el proceso de revisión entre pares, así como una percepción positiva entre los estudiantes del proceso. Finalmente, los resultados son discutidos proponiéndose algunas implicaciones educativas. Here is presented an action-research experience about the writing and review processes of a laboratory report written in a specific technical format called “Standard Operating Procedure” by a group students of the vocational training degree “Laboratory”, which belongs to the professional family of Chemistry. The participant teacher was the author of this paper. Following to write the report, the students followed a peer review process, reading reports written by their partners and giving them some feedback in order to improve the written products. As it is explained later, the aims of the intervention were to help the students to increase theirtechnical competence and also to try to allow them to progress in terms of their scientific literacy and in theprogress in their development as active and responsible citizens. About the research analysis shown here, it was focused in studying the evolution of the features of those reports, in particular asking if their coherence and the quality of the informationpresented in them increase. As results, we founded improvements in some dimensions of the students reports after participating in the peer review process, and also a positive perception of the process among the students. Finally, the results are discussedand used to pose some educative implications. SI

In humans, retinoic acid receptor responders (RARRES) have been shown to be altered in third trimester placentas complicated by the pathologies preeclampsia (PE) and PE with intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR). Currently, little is known about the role of placental Rarres in rodents. Therefore, we examined the localization and expression of Rarres1 and 2 in placentas obtained from a Wistar rat model of isocaloric maternal protein restriction (E18.5, IUGR-like features) and from an eNOS-knockout mouse model (E15 and E18.5, PE-like features). In both rodent models, Rarres1 and 2 were mainly localized in the placental spongiotrophoblast and giant cells. Their placental expression, as well as the expression of the Rarres2 receptor chemokine-like receptor 1 (CmklR1), was largely unaltered at the examined gestational ages in both animal models. Our results have shown that RARRES1 and 2 may have different expression and roles in human and rodent placentas, thereby underlining immanent limitations of comparative interspecies placentology. Further functional studies are required to elucidate the potential involvement of these proteins in early placentogenesis.

[Resumen]: El tributilo de estaño (TBT) es un compuesto organometálico que se ha empleado como biocida comercial en pinturas antiincrustantes para todo tipo de estructuras sumergidas. A pesar de las ventajas que suponen estas pinturas, el TBT causa distintos efectos deletéreos. Uno de los más conocidos es el imposex, que consiste en la masculinización de las hembras de ciertos gasterópodos, lo que interfiere negativamente en la reproducción. Por ello, la Unión Europea prohibió totalmente la comercialización y uso del TBT como biocida en 2003, y en el año 2008 fue prohibido a nivel global por la Organización Marítima Internacional. En esta revisión se ha analizado y comparado la evolución del grado de imposex en las costas de diferentes países europeos fijándonos en los períodos críticos. Se seleccionaron estudios sobre el gasterópodo marino Nucella lapillus con datos del indice de la Secuencia del Vaso Deferente (VDSI), que mide el grado de contaminación por TBT. Con los datos recopilados elaboramos diagramas de cajas y bigotes con los que analizar la evolución del imposex en cada país, así como un gráfico de barras para analizar la evolución a nivel europeo. Tras el análisis concluimos que las prohibiciones sobre el TBT fueron efectivas, ya que los niveles de imposex descendieron en todas las costas europeas. Sin embargo, al final de los registros la media de VDSI de todas las naciones (excepto Noruega) entra en un estancamiento, por lo que todavía no se han recuperado completamente. [Abstract]: Tributyltin (TBT) is an organometallic compound that has been used as a commercial biocide in antifouling paints for all types of submerged structures. Despite the advantages of these paints, TBT causes different deleterious effects. One of the best known is the imposex, which consists of the masculinization of the females of certain gastropods, which negatively interferes with reproduction. Therefore, the European Union banned the commercialization and use of TBT as a biocide in 2003 and in 2008 it was banned globally by the International Maritime Organization. In this review we have analyzed and compared the evolution of the degree of imposex of Nucella lapillus on the coasts of different European countries focusing on the critical periods. Studies of Nucella lapillus, a marine gastropod, were selected. These studies contained data on the Vas Deferens Sequence Index (VDSI), which measures the degree of TBT contamination. With all the data we elaborate box and whiskers diagrams, as well as a bar chart about the European VDSI. With these figures we analyze the evolution of imposex in each country and in Europe. After the analysis, we conclude that the prohibitions on TBT were effective, since the levels of imposex dropped on all European coasts. However, at the end of the records the average of VDSI of all nations (except Norway) enters a stagnation, so they have not yet fully recovered. Traballo fin de grao (UDC.CIE). Bioloxía. Actualmente, la industria naval es el responsable del 10% de emisiones globales de CO2, y segun cifras de la Organizacion Maritima Internacional (OMI), en el 2020 con el crecimiento de la flota naval, se emitiran 1500 millones de toneladas de CO2. Ademas, en el Peru contamos con 20,000 embarcaciones pesqueras que son el sustento de 45,000 familias peruanas, que no logran satisfacer sus necesidades basicas debido a que el uso del combustible fosil genera un gasto elevado para su economia. La presente investigacion consiste en el diseno y construccion de un sistema generador de hidrogeno que cuenta con una celda de placas metalicas de acero 316, que emplea el agua de mar como insumo principal para hacer funcionar los motores de las embarcaciones, dejando de utilizar los combustibles fosiles. Este sistema consta de cinco (5) etapas: Captacion de agua de mar, Tratamiento de aguas (filtrado de impurezas), Electrolisis del agua, Tratamiento del gas (secado) e Inyeccion del gas al motor. Estas etapas a su vez estan compuestas por equipos y partes individuales. De esta manera, se estaria ayudando a reducir considerablemente las emisiones de CO2 emitidas por estas embarcaciones, evitando los derrames de petroleo y elevando el nivel de vida de los pescadores y sus familias.

El proyecto “¡A contar! Matemáticas para Pensar” es una propuesta de enseñanza para el aprendizaje de las matemáticas en la educación infantil (de 3 a 6 años). Está centrado en ideas matemáticas importantes y toda la actividad matemática aparece organizada a través de la literatura infantil. Los cuentos que estructuran el proyecto han sido ilustrados para potenciar al máximo la actividad matemática infantil. En este artículo explicamos la relación que se establece entre las imágenes de los cuentos, sus características matemáticas, las tareas que proponemos a los niños de 3 años y la actividad matemática que desarrollan los niños en este contexto.

This paper proposes a discussion on the connection between organizational communication and marketing and the perceived gap between academic theory and market practice. Companies participating in the Petrogas Network of Sergipe were observed. The holistic single-case study methodology proposed by Yin was used. Through this study it can be seen that, even in light of the rigid methods proposed by international standards, both communication and marketing have been neglected in the companies analyzed.

Los fundamentos del conteo se aprenden a edad temprana. Con tres años, el recitado de la secuencia de palabras número debe alcanzar hasta “diez” e, idealmente, hasta “quince”. El recitado es imprescindible para el conteo, y tiene regularidades que se infravaloran, poniendo énfasis solo en la memorización. Al tiempo, se aprenden ideas matemáticas importantes relativas al conteo como la correspondencia uno a uno, el principio de cardinalidad o la funcionalidad del conteo. Describimos el trabajo de elaboración de álbumes ilustrados para articular el aprendizaje de matemáticas importantes e imprescindibles para el conteo a los 3 años. Explicamos cómo el texto y las ilustraciones responden a pautas didácticas emergentes de la investigación sobre el pensamiento numérico infantil. Describimos los usos de los álbumes en el aula y nuestras expectativas sobre posibles relaciones entre las imágenes y la actividad matemática infantil.

La transformación de la agricultura mediterránea ha estado vinculada a la individualización de la agricultura familiar, al crecimiento del trabajo asalariado y a la dependencia estructural de una fuerza de trabajo extra local. En este contexto, la migración interna y transnacional constituye una reserva de mano de obra vulnerable, barata y flexible que hace posible el actual sistema de alimentación.

In this paper we propose a numerical method to approximate the best decay rate for some dissipative systems that are bounded perturbation of unbounded skew-adjoint operators. We also give some numerical examples and applications to illustrate the efficiency of this approach.

CAPTCHAs/HIPs are security mechanisms that try to prevent automatic abuse of services. They are susceptible to learning attacks in which attackers can use them as oracles. Kwon and Cha presented recently a novel algorithm that intends to avoid such learning attacks and "detect all bots". They add uncertainties to the grading of challenges, and also use trap images designed to detect bots. The authors suggest that a major IT corporation is studying their proposal for mainstream implementation. We present here two fundamental design flaws regarding their trap images and uncertainty grading. These leak information regarding the correct grading of images. Exploiting them, an attacker can use an UTS-CAPTCHA as an oracle, and perform a learning attack. Our testing has shown that we can increase any reasonable initial success rate up to 100%.
