We discuss the prospects for indirect detection of dark matter (DM) with the Cherenkov Telescope Array (CTA), a future ground-based gamma-ray observatory that will be sensitive to gamma rays in the energy range from a few tens of GeV to 100 TeV. We consider the detectability of DM annihilation in different astrophysical targets with a focus on the Galactic Center (GC) region. With a deep observation of the GC, CTA will be sensitive to DM particles with mass greater than 100 GeV and an annihilation cross section close to the thermal relic value., Comment: White paper contribution for Snowmass 2013 in the Cosmic Frontier Working Group "CF2: WIMP Dark Matter Indirect Detection"

Previous taxonomies of software evolution have focused on the purpose of the change rather than the underlying mechanisms. This paper proposes a taxonomy of software evolution based on the characterizing mechanisms of change and the factors that influence these mechanisms. The taxonomy is organized into the following logical groupings: temporal properties, objects of change, system properties, and change support. The ultimate goal of this taxonomy is to provide a framework that positions concrete tools, formalisms and methods within the domain of software evolution. Such a framework would considerably ease comparison between these tools, formalisms and methods. It would also allow practitioners to evaluate their potential use in particular change scenarios. As an initial step towards this taxonomy, the paper presents a framework that can be used to characterize software change support tools and to identify the factors that impact on the use of these tools. The framework is evaluated by applying it to three different change support tools and by comparing these tools based on this analysis.

Programming languages are not only useful to command computers, they also increasingly are a medium for human communication. I will use the framework of distributed cognition to discuss how knowledge is shared in a team of programmers and to show that computer code plays an important role in it. The resulting model of how programmers comprehend code suggests that common grounds play an important role in it. I propose two hypotheses concerning the means used by programmers to refer to common grounds from within their code. The hypotheses imply that modern languages, such as Scala, offer advantages as human communication mediums. I describe an experiment, using an eye-tracking device, that measures the performance of code comprehension. The hypotheses are tested by varying the degree of reference to common grounds.
