To improve the recognition accuracy of badminton players’ swing movements, this study proposes a single inertial sensor based method for badminton swing movement recognition. This article proposes a badminton racket-mounted data gathering system with a single inertial sensor and proposes a real-time motion data flow-based window segmentation technique to capture motion data. On this basis, a two-layer classifier recognition model based on C4.5 Decision Tree (C4.5 T) algorithm and Random Forest (RF) method is constructed to recognize swing technical actions. Using the C4.5 T to identify the swing style of athletes; The RF method is used to recognize the swing technical action. The final experiment showed that the method studied achieved a recognition accuracy of 95.36% for six common swing movements. The proposed model has good application prospects in the recognition of badminton swing movements. However, due to the limitations of the experimental conditions, the recognition effect of this method on more complex swing movements needs to be further verified.

Neijiang (NJ) and Yacha (YC) are two indigenous pig breeds in the Sichuan basin of China, displaying higher resistance to diseases, lower lean ratio, and slower growth rate than the commercial Western pig breed Yorkshire (YS). The molecular mechanisms underlying the differences in growth and development between these pig breeds are still unknown. In the present study, five pigs from NJ, YC, and YS breeds were subjected to the whole genome resequencing, and then the differential single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) were screened using a 10-kb window sliding in 1-kb step using the Fst method. Finally, 48,924, 48,543, and 46,228 nonsynonymous single-nucleotide polymorphism loci (nsSNPs) were identified between NJ and YS, NJ and YC, and YC and YS, which highly or moderately affected 2,490, 800, and 444 genes, respectively. Moreover, three nsSNPs were detected in the genes of acetyl-CoA acetyltransferase 1 ( ACAT1) insulin-like growth factor 2 receptor ( IGF2R), insulin-like growth factor 2 and mRNA-binding protein 3 ( IGF2BP3), which potentially affected the transformation of acetyl-CoA to acetoacetyl-CoA and the normal functions of the insulin signaling pathways. Moreover, serous determinations revealed significantly lower acetyl-CoA content in YC than in YS, supporting that ACAT1 might be a reason explaining the differences in growth and development between YC and YS breeds. Contents of phosphatidylcholine (PC) and phosphatidic acid (PA) significantly differed between the pig breeds, suggesting that glycerophospholipid metabolism might be another reason for the differences between Chinese and Western pig breeds. Overall, these results might contribute basic information to understand the genetic differences determining the phenotypical traits in pigs.

Background Retrospective or single-center prospective studies with relatively small samples have shown that contrast-enhanced US (CEUS) can improve the diagnostic accuracy of percutaneous biopsy, but larger prospective studies are lacking. Purpose To assess the diagnostic performance of CEUS-guided biopsy (CEUS-GB) of focal liver lesions (FLLs) compared with US-guided biopsy (US-GB) in a prospective multicenter study. Materials and Methods In this randomized controlled study conducted in nine hospitals in China between March 2016 and August 2019, adult participants with FLLs detected with US, CT, or MRI and planned for percutaneous biopsy were randomly assigned to undergo either US-GB or CEUS-GB. Lesions diagnosed as malignant at histopathologic analysis were considered true-positive findings. Benign or indeterminate lesions required further confirmation with either repeat biopsy or clinical follow-up at 6 months or later. In this study, while aiming at the prevention of fire accidents in underground commercial streets, an underground commercial street is selected as a research object, and the building fire is numerically simulated using the PyroSim software. Fire simulation scenarios are divided according to different fire zones by analyzing the temperature, carbon monoxide (CO) concentration, and visibility in the smoke layer inside a building. The available safe evacuation time is calculated according to the critical fire hazard judgment conditions. We found that the time when the flue gas temperature and CO concentration reached the critical value in the fire site was longer than the time when the visibility reached the critical value reducing or even avoiding the spread of smoke from the fire area to the evacuation stairs can provide effective help for crowd evacuation. Finally, the safety of the building is evaluated, and fire prevention countermeasures are defined based on the actual situation and fire numerical simulation results to reduce fire incidence, casualties, and economic losses.

Background Although postpartum depression (PPD) and non-peripartum major depressive disorder (MDD) occurring within and outside the postpartum period share many clinical characteristics, whether PPD and MDD are the same or not remains controversial. Methods The current study was devoted to identify the shared and different neural circuits between PPD and MDD by resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging data from 77 participants (22 first-episodic drug-naïve MDD, 26 drug-naïve PPD, and 29 healthy controls (HC)). Results Both the PPD and MDD groups exhibited higher fractional amplitude of low-frequency fluctuation (fALFF) in left temporal pole relative to the HC group; the MDD group showed specifically increased degree centrality in the right cerebellum while PPD showed specifically decreased fALFF in the left supplementary motor area and posterior middle temporal gyrus (pMTG_L), and specifically decreased functional connectivities between pMTG and precuneus and between left subgeneual anterior cingulate cortex (sgACC_L) and right sgACC. Moreover, sgACC and left thalamus showed abnormal regional homogeneity of functional activities between any pair of HC, MDD, and PPD. Conclusions These results provide initial evidence that PPD and MDD have common and distinct neural circuits, which may facilitate understanding the neurophysiological basis and precision treatment for PPD.

A 70-day feeding trial was conducted to ascertain the effects of threonine on immune response of juvenile oriental river prawn (Macrobrachium nipponense). Six isonitrogen and isolipidic feeds were formulated according to levels of dietary threonine (0.35%, 0.79%, 1.18%, 1.67%, 2.08% and 2.48% respectively). The juvenile prawns were divided into six groups with four replicates, and stocked into 24 tanks with 50 prawns per tank (initial weight 0.20 ± 0.02 g). The results showed a significant increasing trend of final body weight, specific growth rate, protein efficiency ratio, and weight gain rate when threonine levels increased to 1.67% (P 0.05). However, feed intake, feed conversion ratio, and whole-body lipid composition significantly decreased as threonine levels in the feed increased up to 1.67% (P 0.05). Moreover, haemolymph N-urea content was significantly lowest at 1.67% threonine level (P 0.05), whereas glucose was highest at 0.79% followed by 1.67% of threonine levels in the feeds. Aspartate aminotransferase (AST) enzyme activities were significantly decreased by an imbalance (except 1.67%) of threonine in the feed (P 0.05). Activities of Alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and albumen (ALB) were not significantly affected by threonine in the feed (P 0.05). Excessive dietary threonine level (2.48%) significantly activated haemolymph catalase (CAT) activity (P 0.05), whereas malondialdehyde (MDA) content was significantly affected by deficient (0.35% and 0.79%) dietary threonine levels (P 0.05). Inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) activity and haemolymph complement component 4 (C4) content were significantly decreased by deficient levels of threonine in the feed (P 0.05). Excess threonine concentration significantly down-regulated Toll, Dorsal, Relish, and heat shock protein 60 (Hsp60) gene expressions in the hepatopancreas of M. nipponense (P 0.05), while all genes were significantly up-regulated by the optimal (1.67%) threonine level (P 0.05). The threonine level at which maximum specific growth rate of M. nipponense occurred was estimated by second degree polynomial regression analysis as 1.65% of threonine level, equivalent to 4.44% dry weight bases of protein in the feed.

Ulcerative colitis (UC) is a inflammatory disease. Herein we explored the impact of diammonium glycyrrhizinate (DG)-nanoliposomes on inflammation and oxidative stress in rats. DG-nanoliposomes were prepared, and the rats with UC were grouped into nanoliposome group, DG group, DG-nanoliposome group and blank group. Then we quantified the levels of IL-8, IL-6, IL-1β, TNF-α and Lactoperoxidase (LPO) in rats from each group by tissue biochemistry staining, and the protein levels of NF-κB p65 were detected by Western Blot (WB). The drug-loading capacity and efficiency of DG-nanoliposomes were 27.0% and 52.0%, respectively. A significantly increased Zeta potential was recorded in the DG-nanoliposomes compared to the unloaded nanoliposomes (P β, TNF-α and LPO in rats receiving DG-nanoliposome s were remarkably lower than those receiving other treatments (P κB p65 was detected in the samples from the DG-nanoliposome group compared to those receiving other treatments (P α signaling pathway. Eventually, TNF-α, IL-8, IL-6, IL-1β, LPO and NF-κB p65 in UC rats were reduced, thereby improving the curative effect of DG-nanoliposomes on UC rats. However, some potential limitations still exist in this study, including the insufficient sample size and the limitation of the animal experiment. Despite limitations, DG-nanoliposomes are still a promising strategy in the field of UC therapy with great potential for clinical translation.

The use of endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) for treating early signet ring cell carcinoma (SRC) is controversial due to the risk of lymph node metastasis.To carry out a meta-analysis to evaluate ESD for therapeutic efficacy and safety in early signet ring cell gastric cancer.The PubMed, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, and EMBASE databases were used to search for relevant studies evaluating the therapeutic efficacy and safety of ESD in SRC. The rates of recurrence, complete resection, incomplete resection, curative resection,This meta-analysis enrolled seven studies with 653 participants undergoing ESD treatment for early SRC. The overall recurrence rate was 0.010 [95% confidence interval (CI): 0.000-0.040,ESD constitutes a promising therapeutic approach for early undifferentiated SRC gastric cancer. However, further improvements are required for increasing its treatment efficacy and reducing adverse outcomes.

An efficient Cu-catalyzed strategy for the direct C–H amination of arenes in high yields using N-hydroxyphthalimide as the amidyl radical precursor under air is reported. A possible mechanism is proposed that proceeds via a radical reaction in the presence of CuBr and triethyl phosphite.

Background: Osteosarcoma (OS) is a common disease in the world, and its pathogenesis is still unclear. This study aims to identify the key genes that promote the proliferation, invasion, and metastasis of osteosarcoma cells. Method: GSE124768 and GSE126209 were downloaded from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database. The gene ontology and enrichment pathway were analyzed by FunRich software. qPCR and Western blot were used to detect the gene expression. After gene knockdown, Transwell and wound healing assays were conducted on osteosarcoma cells to detect whether the genes were defined before enhancing the invasion of osteosarcoma. Results: Totally, 341 mRNAs were found to be regulated differentially in osteosarcoma cells compared to osteoblasts. In addition, the expression level of Serglycin (SRGN) in osteosarcoma cells was higher than that in human osteoblasts. The invasion and proliferation ability of osteosarcoma cells with upregulated Serglycin was significantly increased, and on the contrary, decreased after Serglycin knockdown. Moreover, we preliminarily found that Serglycin may associate with the JAK/STAT signaling pathway. Conclusions: By using microarray and bioinformatics analyses, differently expressed mRNAs were identified and a complete gene network was constructed. To our knowledge, we describe for the first time Serglycin as a potential biomarker.

The tumor immunosuppressive microenvironment can influence treatment response and outcomes. A previously validated immunosuppression scoring system (ISS) assesses multiple immune checkpoints in gastric cancer (GC) using tissue-based assays. We aimed to develop a radiological signature for non-invasive assessment of ISS and treatment outcomes.A total of 642 patients with resectable GC from three centers were divided into four cohorts. Radiomic features were extracted from portal venous-phase CT images of GC. A radiomic signature for predicting ISS (RISS) was constructed using the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) regression method. Moreover, we investigated the value of the RISS in predicting survival and chemotherapy response.The RISS, which consisted of 10 selected features, showed good discrimination of immunosuppressive status in three independent cohorts (area under the curve = 0.840, 0.809, and 0.843, respectively). Multivariate analysis revealed that the RISS was an independent prognostic factor for both disease-free survival (DFS) and overall survival (OS) in all cohorts (all p 0.05). Further analysis revealed that stage II and III GC patients with low RISS exhibited a favorable response to adjuvant chemotherapy (OS: hazard ratio [HR] 0.407, 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.284-0.584); DFS: HR 0.395, 95% CI 0.275-0.568). Furthermore, the RISS could predict prognosis and select stage II and III GC patients who could benefit from adjuvant chemotherapy independent of microsatellite instability status and Epstein-Barr virus status.The new, non-invasive radiomic signature could effectively predict the immunosuppressive status and prognosis of GC. Moreover, the RISS could help identify stage II and III GC patients most likely to benefit from adjuvant chemotherapy and avoid overtreatment.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is one of the largest causes of cancer-related deaths worldwide owing to the limitation of effective treatment options. The ubiquitin-proteasome system has been rapidly recognized as a frequent target of deregulation leading to cancers. Enhanced DNA damage response (DDR) promotes HCC growth and prevents chemosensitivity, and ubiquitin E3 ligases are key modulators in DDR. Therefore, a better understanding of how E3 ligases regulate cell growth and DNA damage may provide novel insights in understanding the oncogenic mechanism and improving the efficacy of DNA damage therapeutic agents. Here, we performed a high-content RNAi screening targeting 52 DDR-related E3 ligases in HCC and found that ring finger protein 4 (RNF4) was essential for HCC growth. RNF4 was highly expressed in HCC tissues, and the expression levels of RNF4 were associated with poor outcomes. RNF4 silencing significantly suppressed the cell growth, and subsequently induced G2/M arrest and apoptosis of HCC cells in vitro; RNF4 silencing also demonstrated the tumor-suppressive efficacy on HCC in vivo. Moreover, RNF4 silencing increased DNA damage, and rendered HCC cells more sensitive to DNA damage drugs and radiation. We found RNF4 functionally interacts with p62, and mechanistic analyses indicated that RNF4 silencing triggered the nuclear enrichment of p62. Moreover, the p62 nuclear targeting was required for increased DNA damage and growth suppression mediated by RNF4 silencing. Thus, our findings suggest RNF4 is essential for HCC proliferation via preventing nuclear translocation of p62. RNF4 silencing promotes DNA damage and may serve as a novel strategy to suppress cell growth and increase the sensitivity of DNA damage therapeutic agents in HCC.

There are significant risks of adverse events following oesophageal endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD), such as stricture, delayed bleeding and perforation. Therefore, it is necessary to protect artificial ulcers and promote the healing process. The current study was performed to investigate the protective role of a novel gel against oesophageal ESD-associated wounds. This was a multicentre, randomized, single-blind, controlled trial that recruited participants who underwent oesophageal ESD in four hospitals in China. Participants were randomly assigned to the control or experimental group in a 1:1 ratio and the gel was used after ESD in the latter. Masking of the study group allocations was only attempted for participants. The participants were instructed to report any adverse events on post-ESD days 1, 14, and 30. Moreover, repeat endoscopy was performed at the 2-week follow-up to confirm wound healing. Among the 92 recruited patients, 81 completed the study. In the experimental group, the healing rates were significantly higher than those in the control group (83.89 ± 9.51% vs. 73.28 ± 17.81%, P = 0.0013). Participants reported no severe adverse events during the follow-up period. In conclusion, this novel gel could safely, effectively, and conveniently accelerate wound healing following oesophageal ESD. Therefore, we recommend applying this gel in daily clinical practice.

Background: Natural killer cells play important roles in tumor immune surveillance, and cancer cells must resist this surveillance in order to progress and metastasise. Introduction: The study aimed to explore the mechanism of how breast cancer cells become resistant to the cytotoxicity of NK cells. Methods: We established NK-resistant breast cancer cells by exposing MDA-MB-231 cells and MCF-7 cells to NK92 cells. Profiles of lncRNA were compared between the NK-resistant and parental cell lines. Primary NK cells were isolated by MACS, and the NK attacking effect was tested by non-radioactive cytotoxicity. The change in lncRNAs was analyzed by Gene-chip. The interaction between lncRNA and miRNA was displayed by Luciferase assay. The regulation of the gene was verified by QRT-PCR and WB. The clinical indicators were detected by ISH, IH, and ELISA, respectively. Results: xUCA1 was found to be significantly up-regulated in both NK-resistant cell lines, and we confirmed such up-regulation on its own to be sufficient to render parental cell lines resistant to NK92 cells. We found that UCA1 up-regulated ULBP2 via the transcription factor CREB1, while it up-regulated ADAM17 by “sponging” the miR-26b-5p. ADAM17 facilitated the shedding of soluble ULBP2 from the surface of breast cancer cells, rendering them resistant to killing by NK cells. UCA1, ADAM17, and ULBP2 were found to be expressed at higher levels in bone metastases of breast cancer than in primary tumors. Conclusion: Our data strongly suggest that UCA1 up-regulates ULBP2 expression and shedding, rendering breast cancer cells resistant to killing by NK cells.

Background and objectivesThe routine application of lymphadenectomy remains a controversial part of surgical staging in malignant ovarian germ-cell tumor (MOGCT). Thus, studies are needed to explore the prognostic significance of lymphadenectomy in MOGCT. The goal of this retrospective study was to report the clinical outcomes of lymph node dissection (LND) and non-LND in MOGCT surgeries.Measurements and main resultsA total of 340 cases of MOGCTs were included: 143 patients (42.1%) had LND and 197 (57.9%) had no LND. The OS rates at 5 years in the LND and non-LND group were 99.3% vs. 100%, respectively. The DFS rates at 5 years in the LND and non-LND group were 88.8% vs. 88.3%. Forty-three patients (12.6%) were successfully pregnant during the postoperative follow-up. There were 44 recurrences (12.9%) and six deaths (1.8%). Stage was an independent prognostic factor for DFS in the multivariate analysis. Pathology was reported as an independent prognostic factor associated with OS in the multivariate analysis.ConclusionLymphadenectomy had no significant influence on the OS (P=0.621) or disease-free survival rate (P=0.332) of patients with MOGCT.

Aim The aim of this study was to explore the experience and perceptions of patients with Crohn’s disease in China. Methods Data mining was used to investigate posts in Crohn’s disease online medical communities. The data were collected through the crawler code, and latent Dirichlet allocation (LDA) and grounded theory were used to mine the theme features after data cleaning. Results In analyzing the topic characteristics of online posts, LDA divided 6757 posts into 15 topics on four aspects: seeking disease information, making decisions on medication use, psychological burden, and communicating about diet and nutrition. Conclusion Overall, social media is patient-centric and helps us better understand the experiences and perceptions of patients. This study can help medical staff predict the thoughts and concerns of Crohn's disease patients during the treatment process, facilitate doctor-patient communication, and assist in the formulation of medical policies.

Background. The incidence of gastric ulcer (GU) remains high worldwide with limited prevention. While promising animal experiments have suggested a potential preventive role of folic acid (FA) in the development of gastric ulcers, the lack of robust clinical evidence has hindered its widespread implementation as a preventative measure. Therefore, this research aims to determine the relationship between FA supplementation and GU genetically by Mendelian randomization (MR) approach, in order to establish a foundation for developing more effective preventative strategies for this condition. Methods. Genome-wide association studies (GWAS) investigating the association between folic acid or folate supplementation and gastric ulcers were sourced from the UK Biobank. The primary methods for Mendelian randomization analysis were the inverse variance-weighted (IVW) methods, including fixed-effect and random-effect IVW models. Other methods used to test the robustness of the results included simple model and median, weighted model and median, as well as penalized weighted median. Results. MR analysis was performed to investigate the causal effect of FA adjuvant therapy on GU. Seven single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of genetic loci associated with FA adjuvant therapy were identified. The random-effect and fixed-effect IVW models revealed that genetically predicted FA complementary therapy was significantly related to the reduction of GU risk (OR, 0.870; 95% CI, 0.826–0.917, p

ObjectiveRecent knowledge concerning the significance of long non-coding RNA (lncRNA)-mediated ceRNA networks provides new insight into their possible roles as specific biomarkers for the treatment of osteosarcoma (OS). Thus, this study aims to clarify the functional relevance and mechanistic actions of lncRNA LBX2-AS1 in OS.MethodsDifferential analysis was performed by integrating the TCGA and GTEx databases. Cox regression analysis was then employed to assess the prognostic value of the model. The expression of lncRNA LBX2-AS1 and miR-597-3p was quantified in OS cell lines by qRT-PCR. The proliferation, migration, invasion, and apoptosis of OS cell lines in response to manipulated lncRNA LBX2-AS1 were evaluated by MTT, colony formation, transwell, Western blot, and flow cytometry assays. Luciferase activity was assayed to validate the reciprocal regulation between lncRNA LBX2-AS1 and miR-597-3p. The protein levels of BRD4 and EMT-related factors were examined by Western blot assay. Finally, tumor growth in response to LBX2-AS1 knockdown was evaluated in xenograft-bearing nude mice.ResultsBy integrating the GTEx and TCGA databases, we identified 153 differentially expressed lncRNAs. Among them, 5 lncRNAs, RP11-535M15.1, AC002398.12, RP3-355L5.4, LBX2-AS1, and RP11.47A8.5, were selected to establish a model, which predicted the prognosis of OS. Higher lncRNA LBX2-AS1 expression was noted in OS tissues relative to that in normal tissues. Silencing lncRNA LBX2-AS1 facilitated apoptosis and curtailed proliferative, migratory, and invasive capacities of OS cells. Mechanistically, lncRNA LBX2-AS1 could elevate the expression of BRD4, an oncogene, by competitively binding to miR-597-3p. More importantly, knockdown of lncRNA LBX2-AS1 increased the sensitivity of OS cells to the BRD4 inhibitor JQ-1. Finally, the tumor growth of OS cell xenografts was constrained in vivo in the presence of lncRNA LBX2-AS1 knockdown.ConclusionIn conclusion, lncRNA LBX2-AS1 promotes the growth of OS and represses the sensitivity to JQ-1 by sponging miR-597-3p to elevate the expression of BRD4.

Osteosarcoma, a highly aggressive malignant tumor of the bone, usually occurs in children and young adults. However, although the considerable achievement in the clinical treatment of osteosarcoma recent years, the overall survival of osteosarcoma patients has not been obviously improved. Cancer cells preferentially use glycolysis instead of oxidative phosphorylation to meet their increased energetic and biosynthetic demands, a phenomenon known as the Warburg effect. Glycolysis is a driving factor in multiple cancers and is emerging as a new cancer target treatment. In the present study, we established a model to screen for glycolysis-associated genes in osteosarcoma. This risk score of the model were correlated with clinical characteristics osteosarcoma patients. Besides, a functional assay identified that STC2 enhanced the glycolysis of osteosarcoma cells. Modulation of STC2 changes glucose consumption and lactate production as well as GLUT1 expression in osteosarcoma. Furthermore, we identified that change in the expression levels of STC2 affected the proliferation, invasion, and migration of osteosarcoma cells. Our findings showed STC2 as a new tumor-promoting factor of osteosarcoma cells through enhancing glycolysis.

Esophageal ambulatory reflux monitoring is the current gold standard for the diagnosis of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). In order to facilitate standardized procedure and improve diagnostic accuracy, clinical guidelines for ambulatory esophageal reflux monitoring were developed based on thorough literature search and working group conference by experts in gastrointestinal motility. Indications, contraindications, methodology, and reporting of ambulatory esophageal reflux monitoring were discussed in these clinical guidelines.

Disruption of susceptibility (S) genes in crops is an attractive breeding strategy for conferring disease resistance

Developing cheap and efficient electrocatalysts for water splitting is required for energy conversion techniques. Many first-row transition metal complexes have been shown to be active for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER). Metal ions play crucial roles in these catalytic processes, but the activity dependence on the nature of metal ions has been rarely studied due to the difficulty to compare metal complexes with different coordination environments. We herein reported the synthesis of a series of metal complexes of azido-substituted porphyrin (1), in which metal ions have very similar coordination environments. By grafting 1-M (M = Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, and Cu) onto alkyne-functionalized carbon nanotubes (CNTs) through the same covalent connection, the resulted hybrids 1-M@CNT were all active and robust for both electrocatalytic HER and OER in alkaline aqueous solutions. Among these hybrids, 1-Fe@CNT displayed the highest electrocatalytic activity for HER, while 1-Co@CNT was the most active one for OER. Moreover, a two-electrode water electrolysis cell assembled with 1-Fe@CNT as the cathode and 1-Co@CNT as the anode required smaller applied bias potential by 210 mV to get 10 mA/cm2 current density as compared to that assembled with Pt/C and Ir/C with the same amount of metal loading. This work is significant to correlate HER and OER activity with the nature of first-row transition metal ions and to highlight promising potential applications of molecular electrocatalysis in water splitting.

Developing large-scale electrocatalysts using molecular complexes for the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) is of great importance. Herein, four cobalt porphyrins and corroles are deposited on electrode substrates using a simple and fast electropolymerization method. Our results showed that Co-1-P@CC, formed by electropolymerizing Co tetrakis(p-N-pyrrolylphenyl)porphyrin (Co-1-P) on carbon cloth (CC), is the most active OER catalyst in the examined Co porphyrins and corroles in alkaline aqueous solutions by displaying an onset overpotential of 380 mV. Long-term electrolysis tests confirmed the stability of these electropolymerized films by functioning as OER electrocatalysts.

Advanced mRNA vaccines play vital roles against SARS-CoV-2. However, most current mRNA delivery platforms need to be stored at −20 °C or −70 °C due to their poor stability, which severely restricts their availability. Herein, we develop a lyophilization technique to prepare SARS-CoV-2 mRNA-lipid nanoparticle vaccines with long-term thermostability. The physiochemical properties and bioactivities of lyophilized vaccines showed no change at 25 °C over 6 months, and the lyophilized SARS-CoV-2 mRNA vaccines could elicit potent humoral and cellular immunity whether in mice, rabbits, or rhesus macaques. Furthermore, in the human trial, administration of lyophilized Omicron mRNA vaccine as a booster shot also engendered strong immunity without severe adverse events, where the titers of neutralizing antibodies against Omicron BA.1/BA.2/BA.4 were increased by at least 253-fold after a booster shot following two doses of the commercial inactivated vaccine, CoronaVac. This lyophilization platform overcomes the instability of mRNA vaccines without affecting their bioactivity and significantly improves their accessibility, particularly in remote regions.

A simple method using DC-balanced line-coding and receiver-side high-pass filtering is proposed to mitigate MPI in high-speed PAM4 transmission. 5-dB improvement in MPI tolerance is achieved in both simulations and experiments for 25GBd PAM4 transmissions.

There are significant risks of adverse events such as stricture, delayed bleeding and perforation following esophageal endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD). So, it is necessary to protect the artificial ulcer and promote the healing process. This study was performed to investigate the protective role of a novel gel against esophageal ESD-associated wounds. It was a multicenter, randomized, single-blind, controlled trial, which recruited participants who underwent esophageal ESD in four hospitals in China. Participants were randomly assigned to the control or experimental group in a 1:1 ratio and the gel was used after ESD in the latter. Masking of the study group allocations was only attempted for participants. The participants were instructed to report any adverse events on post-ESD day 1, 14, and 30. Moreover, repeat endoscopy was performed at the two-week follow-up to confirm wound healing. Finally, of the 92 recruited patients, 81 completed the study. In the experimental group, the healing rates were significantly higher than the control group (83.89 ± 9.51% vs. 73.28 ± 17.81%, P = 0.0013). Participants reported no severe adverse events during the follow-up period. In conclusion, this novel gel could accelerate wound healing following esophageal ESD safely, effectively, and conveniently. Therefore, we recommend to apply this gel in daily clinical practice.

Exosomes are widely involved in a variety of physiological and pathological processes. These important roles are also hidden in the physiological processes related to bone. Chondrocytes, osteoblasts, synovial fibroblasts, and bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells produce and secrete exosomes, thereby affecting the biology process of target cells. Furthermore, in the primary pathogenesis of osteoarthrosis induced by steroid hormones, mainly involve glucocorticoid (GC), the exosomes have also widely participated. Therefore, exosomes may also play an important role in glucocorticoid-induced osteoarthrosis and serve as a promising treatment for early intervention of osteoarthrosis in addition to playing a regulatory role in malignant tumors. This review summarizes the previous results on this direction, systematically combs the role and therapeutic potential of exosomes in GC-induced osteoarthrosis, discusses the potential role of exosomes in the treatment and prevention of GC-induced osteoarthrosis, and reveals the current challenges we confronted.

This study aimed to confirm whether premedication with pronase before endoscopy improves mucosal visualization and increases precancerous lesion and cancer lesion detection rates.From June 2018 to April 2019, out-patients scheduled for endoscopy from 13 hospitals were screened to be randomly allocated in a 2:1 ratio to premedication with pronase (group A) and water (group B). The primary endpoint was mucosal visibility scores, and the secondary endpoint was precancerous and cancer lesion detection rates. This trial was registered at Chinese Clinical Trial Registry, and the registration number was ChiCTR1800016853.Group A showed significantly lower mucosal visibility scores (better mucosal visibility) of esophagus, stomach, and duodenum than group B, with all P-values0.001. The overall cancer detection rates between group A and group B were 0.83 and 1.08%, and overall detection rates of precancerous and cancer lesion were 4.4 and 4.9%, both without significant difference (P=1.000 and 0.824). In addition, the flushing volume (milliliter) of group A (10.52±23.41) was less than group B (36.30±52.11) (P0.001), and the flushing frequency of group A (0.46±1.01) was fewer than group B (1.62±2.12) (P0.001).Premedication with pronase could achieve better mucosal visibility and decrease flushing frequency and volume, but may not increase lesion detection rates.

Background Long noncoding RNAs (LncRNAs) show dysregulation in a variety of cancers. However, the function and specific mechanism of LncRNA GSEC in the progression of osteosarcoma remain mostly unknown. In this study, we sought to elucidate the role and mechanism of LncRNA GSEC in the occurrence and progression of osteosarcoma. Methods we examined the expression of LncRNA GSEC in osteosarcoma cell lines by quantitative real time PCR. In vitro experiments, including transwell assays, cck8 assays, and flow cytometry analysis have biologically demonstrated the effect of LncRNA GSEC on the proliferation and migration of osteosarcoma cell lines. Furthermore, the regulation of miR-588 by LncRNA GSEC was determined by luciferase reporter assay and quantitative real time PCR. What’s more, subcutaneous tumor formation was performed in nude mice to monitor the growth of the tumor in vivo. Results We found that the expression of LncRNA GSEC was up-regulated in osteosarcoma cell lines. Overexpression of LncRNA GSEC promoted the proliferating and migratory capacity, and inhibited the apoptosis of osteosarcoma cells. Conversely, knockdown of LncRNA GSEC resulted in the opposite effect. Mechanistically, we identified LncRNA GSEC functioned as the sponge of miR-588, thus inhibiting the miR-588/EIF5A2 signal pathway. In addition, the expression of miR-588 was negatively correlated with LncRNA GSEC, and the effect by silencing or overexpressing LncRNA GSEC could be rescued by the introduction of miR-588 mimics or inhibitors, respectively. Conclusions In summary, this study shows that LncRNA GSEC promotes the proliferation and invasion of OS through the regulation of miR-588/EIF5A2 pathway, which might provide a new strategy for the treatment of osteosarcoma in the future.

The correspondence of natural and laboratory-accelerated aging of WPC has long beenahighly important problem discussed by many scholars. In this work, the changes in moisture content (MC), modulus of rupture (MOR), modulus of elasticity (MOE), screw holding force and creep recovery rates of two groups of wood-plastic composites (WPC) after natural and accelerated aging (high-low temperature cycles and freeze-thaw cycles) were studied to provide guidance for the use of WPC in outdoor applications. The results showed that, after the natural aging and freeze-thaw cycles treatments, MC increased significantly with both 167% of the untreated value of wood-HDPE composites with 30% wood fiber content and a thickness of 25 mm (W25), while 67% and 133% of the wood-HDPE composites with 30% wood fiber content and a thickness of 20 mm (W20), but is almost unchanged after the treatment with high-low temperature cycles. The mechanical strength, including MOR, MOE, screw holding force and creep recovery rate, decreased after natural and accelerated aging. The greatest decreases of MOR, MOE, screw holding force and creep recovery rate were 14%, 13%, 21%, and 7% for W25, while 5%, 8%, 8%, and 14% for W20 respectively. Environmental aging can reduce the strength of WPC, but the bending strength retention rate is more than 85%, showing that performance of WPC is relatively stable compared to wood materials, which is oneof thereasons for the widely use of WPC in outdoor applications.

BACKGROUND: The sternothyroid muscle (ST) is routinely divided during grossly enlarged thyroid surgery to facilitate gland exposure. However, the ST is considered to play a role in controlling of pitch in the human voice. In this prospective cohort study, we described an anterolateral approach (AA) by which it was easy to expose the enlarged gland while preserving the ST, and evaluated the impact of this approach on vocal outcomes after total thyroidectomy. METHODS: The AA was performed on eligible patients from October 2018 to January 2020 in our department. Consecutive cases hospitalized from March 2020 and followed up to June 2021 who received total thyroidectomy via the midline approach (MA) served as controls. All participants underwent voice analysis before the operation and at 2 weeks and 3 months after the surgery. In 26 patients from AA group, strap muscles were mobilized along the anterior margin of both sternocleidomastoid muscles (SCMs) until 3 cm above the sternal notch followed by thyroidectomy, and their voice outcomes were compared to those of 36 patients from the MA group with a bilateral division of ST. RESULTS: Distribution of age, gender, specimen size, thyroid histopathology and laryngeal nerve identification rates did not differ significantly between groups. At 2 weeks post-surgery, objective assessment of voice change rate indicated no significant difference between groups, whereas the difference appeared to be partially manifest 3 months later. In the single-arm study, the AA group showed a decrease of maximum and fundamental pitch frequency 2 weeks after surgery but showed no difference in fundamental frequency after 3 months. The MA group continued to show a mild decrease in maximum and fundamental frequency at 3 months after surgery. CONCLUSIONS: The AA affords sufficient visualization of the superior thyroid vessels and external branch of the superior laryngeal nerve (EBSLN) without sacrificing the integrity of the strap muscles. This approach is a feasible solution for selective difficult thyroid surgery and could reduce the postoperative changes in pitch of voice.
