The COVID-19 pandemic has not only brought major changes to the survival of society at large. The spread of this virus also specifically has an impact on university students who are at home during the quarantine period. This study aims to identify the level of family support among the University of Malaya students. This study used a quantitative research method, with 103 respondents/university students from eight faculties at the University of Malaya. Researchers used a quantitative approach to analyze the information data obtained from respondents. In this study, the collected data were analyzed through descriptive analysis methods to determine the level of family support. The results showed that the level of family support was moderate. This shows that the role of the family is also very important for university students during the COVID-19 pandemic. The family is the basis on which individuals depend for survival, where their basic functions include preparing an environment and situation that is suitable for the development of healthy family members physically, mentally, socially, and so on. This study concludes that family presence not only directly influences various aspects of child socialization but also has an important influence on individual mental health.

Governments around the world have issued movement restrictions and quarantines to combat the SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) pandemic. However, the Swedish government has not implemented such measures but has depended on individual responsibility. The extent to which individuals have been encouraged to trust in and be satisfied with government strategies and adopt personal health measures, such as social isolation, remains unclear. This study examines the direct effects of trust in the government and risk perception on self-efficacy. Most importantly, this study intends to explore whether satisfaction with government measures strengthens the relationships between 1) trust in the government and self-efficacy and 2) risk perception and self-efficacy. We test our suggested hypotheses using survey data obtained from 403 Swedish citizens living in Sweden. As predicted, the findings indicate that trust in the government and risk perception positively impact individual self-efficacy. Additionally, the findings reveal that satisfaction with government measures strengthens these relationships; more precisely, the impact of trust in the government and risk perception under a high level of individual satisfaction with government measures is much more positive than that under a low satisfaction level. In practice, a focus on implementing successful policies and excellent individual self-efficacy is required to halt the pandemic, and the findings indicate that combining strictly attentive and adaptive individual strategies with government strategies can minimize the spread of infection.

Our results suggested that risk perception had a significant effect on trust in government and self-efficacy. Moreover, these correlations were stronger when social media was used as a source for gathering information on COVID-19. In some cases, it even helped users avoid exposure to the virus. This study assessed the relationship between risk perception and the awareness gained from using social media during the pandemic and highlighted how social media usage influences trust in government and self-efficacy.

These days, the void in appreciating the national history is becoming more apparent especially among the younger generation. This issue should be taken seriously as history is an important mechanism for the implementation of national identity of the multi-ethnic community in Malaysia. Thus, this paper discusses the relationship between history and national identity, the disparity of the younger generation in appreciating history and the measurement mechanisms for the appreciation of the history of the country. This discussion is based on content analysis of relevant literature materials. The results of this discussion need to be highlighted as history is often disregarded by most communities in the face of modernity. The significance of history should be emphasized as a thrust to the adoption of national identity in the community and to build human sustainability for the survival of future civilizations in Malaysia.Keywords: history, national identity, young generation, human sustainability, measurement of history appreciation

The recidivism rate in substance abuse is linked to the failure of addicts to wean off their de-pendency on drugs, especially for addicts that had served their treatment and rehabilitation. This situation occurred because the addicts, after receiving treatment, faced environmental pressure and risky situations that triggered a negative response on their part. Based on previous studies, quality of life could be one factor that helps reduce former addicts’ recidivism rate. A higher quality of life could also provide them with the strength and control necessary to resist reverting to drug abuse. This quality would positively affect the former addicts as it is linked to feelings of happiness, enjoyment, joy, and satisfaction. This paper touches on the definition of quality of life and previous studies regarding the quality of life factor and recidivism. The quality of life factor could hopefully provide a new perspective in rehabilitating former drug addicts and help them fight the urges to use drugs again. It is hoped this study report would be a guideline for recidivisms prevention programmes, especially for authorities responsible for managing problem related to drug abuse. The discussions in this paper hopefully could be useful to all related bodies in formulating a rehabilitation and prevention programme for former addicts to prevent them from lapsing. This situation would then help in reducing government burden in their efforts to tackle the problem.

Recently, feeling of safety in the residential area as a component of a proper housing has attracted a lot of attention from psycho-sociologist. Hence, this survey aims at determining the relationship between dwelling type, environmental aspects of housing welfare, and residents’ sense of insecurity in Bandar-Abbas, Iran using a self-administered structured questionnaire distributed among 384 residents (62 from single-unit houses + 322 from apartment complexes) randomly selected. The findings show that dwelling type is significantly related to sense of insecurity among the residents. Further, the relationship between the components of housing welfare in residential building and residents’ sense of insecurity is negatively significant. Additionally, regarding the effect of housing welfare components in residential neighborhood, only the access to recreational services has a significant negative but small effect on the sense of insecurity. Therefore, the factors which contribute to improved residents’ feeling of safety may absorb more attention by both designers and policy makers in the housing development in order to increase the welfare of housing.

This research was conducted to determine the relationship between children’s communication with their parents and self concept among Malay adolescence. The Questionnaire of Communication Exercise for Teenagers (1971) was used to measure the level of communication between child and parents whiles the second questionnaire, Harter Self Perception Profile for Adolescents Scale (1986) was used to measure the child’s self concept. This quantitative descriptive study selected 300 consist adolescence aged 15-16 years. Random sampling was used to select the sample.The results showed that there has a relationship between children communication with parents and adolescent self concept. According to this study, the results of the study seem to describe that Malay society is still maintaining the societal pattern that is collectivistic in nature. What is most interesting is that the results of the study also describe how Malay society still maintains the traits of societal life that emphasize on harmony even in communication. This is because Malays have their own method in conveying their thoughts. This proves that families in Malay society place more importance in familial relations, family gatherings, cooperation during feasts, sharing and emphasize on mutual rights in all aspects of life.

The purpose of this article is to review the research on at-risk students in order to determine what the literature reveals about the combined influence of school and community type on placing students at risk. Thus, the aim of this paper is to explore the various outcomes for student's risk factor in school and in the community found in literature. We explore whether another factor also plays a role included the school and education system factors, the poverty factors, the surrounding factors, family structure problems, peer factors and the abuse and violence factors. The discussion will included the intensive measure in solving students and community risk factors. We also explore the interventions from school and teachers, family intervention, parental skills, parental support and supervision, family interaction and the communal intervention. In this article, we also discuss the intensive measures in solving student and community risk factors based on intensive programs in Malaysia compare to intervention programs of the west.

This article examines analytic issues in research on mental health affecting the students in Malaysia. The review notes the continued move in briefing on the definition of mental health and mental health manner in promoting healthy secondary school students in Malaysia. At the point, parents and teachers are the individuals identified to perform this heavy duty and their collaboration is vital in promoting positive mental health among the students. Thus, the discussion will include definition of mental health, types of mental illness and appropriate measures taken to promote mental health, particularly among students in Malaysia.
