Satellite, fifth generation (5G), and sixth generation (6G) mobile communication systems operating at micro- and millimeter wave frequencies are an essential pillar in advanced network architectures for high-throughput low latency services. The decisive factors for this current development were the significant technological advances accomplished over the last two decades, which meanwhile enable highly integrated, feature-rich, and cost-effective realizations of complete phased array transceiver topologies. Motivated through the today's trend for heterogeneous constellation types to provide truly global coverage, this contribution reviews the current state-of-the-art of electronically steerable antennas for terrestrial and non-terrestrial communication systems up to 100 GHz. First, the potential benefits and limitations of the most relevant technologies are contrasted and put into context with recent system architectures for adaptive beamforming. Their operating principles along with various experimental implementation and achievements providing advanced capabilities such as multi-band/multi-beam operation, polarization agility, and wide-angle scanning are thoroughly presented. A hybrid thin film multilayer antenna for automotive radar is presented in this work. A 2×8 aperture coupled stacked patch antenna array is realized on a single layer printed circuit board (PCB) using a novel thin film based approach. Using a compact 180 ◦ phase difference power divider, inter-element spacing in a 2×2 sub-array is reduced. Measurement results show a 19% (67.9–82.5 GHz) impedance bandwidth and a wideband broadside radiation pattern, with a maximum gain of 15.4 dBi realized gain at 72 GHz. The presented antenna compares favorably with other multilayer PCB antennas in terms of performance, with the advantage of simpler manufacturing and robust design. Le développement de toute nouvelle technologie sans fil passe par une phase de simulation système, afin d'identifier les paramètres qui impactent la qualité de transmission et de définir les limites du réseau. Ces simulateurs doivent alors reposer sur des modèles de canaux précis et réalistes permettant de mieux prédire les indicateurs de performance du système. La future génération des réseaux mobiles 5G, en cours de standardisation pour un déploiement en 2020, n'en est pas une exception. En effet, de nombreux travaux de recherche effectués dans ce contexte se sont consacrés à la mise en oeuvre de nouveaux modèles adaptés aux différents scénarios de propagation envisagés pour cette technologie (micro-urbain, macro-urbain, bâtiments, V2V, D2D, ...). Afin d'assurer une communication optimale en termes de ressources énergétiques et spectrales, la nouvelle génération des terminaux 5G doit être également en mesure de connaître en permanence son environnement. Cela repose sur l'implémentation d'un système de localisation, notamment dans les milieux contraints où les systèmes de positionnement satellitaires ne sont pas disponibles. Dans le domaine des transports, un exemple assez récurent de ces scénarios est celui des tunnels. Bien qu'ils soient des milieux « indoor », ce type d'environnements est caractérisé par le phénomène de guidage d'onde dû à sa structure géométrique et des propriétés des matériaux de ses murs. Ainsi, une extension des modèles de propagation développés pour les systèmes 5G s'avère alors nécessaire, afin de prendre en considération ce cas d'usage. Le modèle proposé dans le cadre de cette thèse adopte une approche hybride pour reproduire l'effet du canal dans une chaîne de localisation. Dans un premier temps, les paramètres de propagation sont calculés par un simulateur à tracé de rayons. Ce dernier décrit avec une grande précision le comportement des ondes radio à l'intérieur du tunnel. Néanmoins, son coût en termes de temps de calcul est énorme. Les données déterministes obtenues sont alors analysées afin d'identifier les lois statistiques qui les régissent. Cette étape nous permet ainsi de créer une base de données contenant pour chaque paramètre la distribution qui lui correspond. Cette dernière est ensuite utilisée pour générer d'une manière stochastique les coefficients du canal utiles à notre système de localisation, à sa- voir l'amplitude et le retard relatifs à chaque trajet. La réponse impulsionnelle du canal, ainsi construite, servira à estimer la distance entre les deux antennes de transmission. En fonction des conditions de propagation ainsi que de la position du récepteur, trois sources d'erreur peuvent compromettre la précision de cette distance. Pour un système de localisation basé sur la métrique temporelle, elles sont liées respectivement à sa largeur de bande, son seuil de détection, et à l'obstruction éventuelle du trajet direct. L'implémentation d'un mécanisme de contrôle d'intégrité s'annonce alors comme une solution prometteuse pour améliorer les performances de notre système. Ce dernier consiste à identifier les mesures aberrantes ne répondant pas aux contraintes imposées par l'application, puis de les exclure ou les corriger en fonction de la stratégie adoptée par le récepteur. Dans ce contexte, nous proposons d'exploiter la diversité spatiale d'un système SIMO (pour Single Input Multiple Output) à deux antennes de réception afin d'identifier les conditions de propagation du canal. La première étape de notre approche a pour but d'augmenter la résolution temporelle des deux réponses impulsionnelles du système. Ces dernières, étant parcimonieuses, sont reconstruites dans le domaine fréquentiel sur une très large bande grâce à une technique de « compressed sensing ». Elles sont ensuite classifiées selon un critère temporel. Celui-ci représente la différence des temps de propagation du signal dans chacun des deux canaux, et il est obtenu par l'inter-corrélation des réponses impulsionnelles reconstruites. L'approche proposée permet alors non seulement d'améliorer la fiabilité de l'information de localisation dans le tunnel, mais également de réduire l'erreur liée à la bande limitée du système et à l'absence du trajet direct. Une implémentation expérimentale de la chaîne de localisation basée sur des signaux OFDM donne lieu à des erreurs d'estimation de distance au moins six fois inférieures à celles reportées par l'approche classique, ou même à celles relatives aux autres techniques d'identification basées sur les tests statistiques. Cet algorithme constitue alors, avec le modèle hybride du canal, les deux contributions majeures de ce travail de thèse. System level simulations are crucial in the development phase of any emerging wireless technology. It allows to identify the key factors that affect the transmission quality and to define the network limits. The used simulators must then be based on accurate and realistic channel models to better predict the system performances. In this context, several researches had been interested to the development of new models that take into account the emerging propagation scenarios introduced by the fifth generation of mobile communications (5G) that will be commercialized by 2020. In order to optimize the spectral and energetic resources use, the mobile terminals of this next generation should be constantly aware of their environment. This relies on the implementation of a location system, especially in constrained environments where satellite positioning systems are not available. In the field of transport, a rather recurrent example of these scenarios is that of tunnels. Although they are indoor environments, this type of environment is characterized by the phenomenon of wave guiding due to its geometric structure and the properties of the materials of its walls. Thus, an extension of the propagation models developed for the 5G systems is then necessary, in order to take into account this use case. We propose in this thesis a hybrid approach to reproduce the effect of the channel in a localization system. First, we calculate the propagation parameters by a ray-tracing simulator. It accurately describes the behavior of the radio waves inside the tunnel, nevertheless, it is expensive in terms of computing time. Then we analyze the obtained deterministic data to identify their statistical laws, and we store both of them in a database to stochastically generate the channel coefficients needed for our ranging system, namely the amplitude and the delay relative to each path. The impulse response of the channel will finally be used to estimate the distance between the two transmission antennas. Depending on the propagation conditions as well as the position of the receiver, three sources of error can compromise the accuracy of this distance. For a ranging system based on the time metric, they are related to the bandwidth, the detection threshold, and the obstruction of the direct path. The implementation of an integrity control mechanism seems to be a promising solution to improve the performance of our system. It then consists of identifying the outliers that do not meet the constraints imposed by the application, then excluding or correcting them according to the strategy adopted by the receiver. In this context, we propose to exploit the spatial diversity of a SIMO (Single Input Multiple Output) system with two reception antennas in order to identify the propagation conditions of the channel. The first step of our approach aims to increase the temporal resolution of the two impulse responses of the system. Being sparse, they are reconstructed in the frequency domain over a very wide band using a compressed sensing technique. Then we classify them according to a temporal criterion, which represents the time difference of propagation of the signal in each channel, and we obtain it by the inter-correlation of reconstructed impulse responses. The proposed approach not only improves the reliability of the ranging information in the tunnel, but also reduces the error related to the limited bandwidth of the system and the obstruction of the direct path. An experimental implementation of the ranging system based on OFDM signals gives rise to distance estimation errors at least six times lower than those reported by the classical approach, or even to those issued from other identification techniques based on statistical tests. This algorithm and the hybrid model of the channel are then the two major contributions of this thesis work.

A compact UWB bowtie-slot antenna (36 multiplied by 23 cm2) fed by a CPW transition is proposed for an improved ground-coupling radar. The antenna has an operating frequency band in the range [0.46 ; 4] GHz. Full-wave modeling using the FDTD approach has allowed to study in details the antenna radiation characteristics in air and in the presence of a soil. Afterwards, a radar system made of a pair of independent shielded bowtie antennas has been considered to probe the sub-surface very close to the air-soil interface. The polarization diversity in the E and H-planes is an important aspect which has been studied in order to further detect the orientation of damages (cracks, delaminations . . . ) in civil engineering structures. Measurements in a dry and wet sand in different system configurations have allowed to first characterize the GPR system and to draw comparisons with numerical results. The ability of the radar to detect small buried objects has been investigated.; Une antenne noeud papillon "bowtie" à encoche ULB compact (36 fois 23 cm2) alimentée par une transition CPW est proposée pour améliorer le couplage du radar au sol. La diversité de polarisation dans les plans E et H est un aspect important qui a été étudié afin de détecter par la suite l'orientation des défauts (fissures, décollements ...) dans les structures de génie civil. Des mesures dans un sable sec et humide dans différentes configurations du système radar ont permis de caractériser le système GPR et d'établir des comparaisons avec les résultats numériques. La capacité du radar à détecter les petits objets enfouis a été étudiée.

When measuring integrated antennas the signal has to be fed to the antennas with wafer probes. Wafer probes are commonly used to contact integrated circuits for on-chip measurements. As integrated radar and communication chips with radiating elements are a fairly recent development, the wafer probes were not optimized for size and reflective properties (characteristics which are important for antenna measurements), but rather for their return loss, insertion loss, and mechanical stability. This resulted in metal probes that are relatively large compared to the wavelength. In this paper, two probes are compared with regard to their performance in integrated antenna measurements. The first probe is a standard commercially available probe. A suitable deterministic partitioning of large planar arrays in two kinds of properly shaped subarrays is shown to improve performances in terms of side-lobes peaks, directivity and aperture efficiency with respect to other existing solutions. The application of this simple idea to the case of large planar arrays with a reduced number of control points, useful in satellite applications, is demonstrated.

Dans un contexte où les ressources énergétiques sont moindres et la demande en termes de débit de communication est forte, il est intéressant de proposer des solutions techniques au niveau de la couche physique permettant d'optimiser la consommation énergétique de systèmes. Actuellement, pour une localisation précise et un transfert de données entre voie et trains efficace, la signalisation ferroviaire exploite des balises disposées entre les rails. La durée possible de la communication entre trains et balises s'avère très brève et n'est effective que lorsque le train passe juste au-dessus de la balise. Celle-ci reste en état de veille jusqu'à ce que le train la télé alimente lors de son passage. Le temps de communication utile entre le train et la balise s'établit à 3-4 ms pour un train roulant à 300 km/h. Par conséquent, plusieurs équipements consécutifs doivent être installés si l'on veut accroître la durée d'échange ou encore la quantité de données échangées. En outre, le fait démettre continument un puissant signal de télé alimentation radiofréquence non exploité depuis tous les trains en circulation, la difficulté de maintenance liée à la présence de cet équipement entre les rails, ainsi que la portée et donc la capacité de communication réduites des balises actuelles constituent autant de limitations que nous tentons de pallier avec ce nouvel équipement. Dès lors, nous développons une nouvelle génération de balise ferroviaire fondée sur un lien radiofréquence qui possède une portée atteignant quelques mètres, nettement plus importante que celle exploitable actuellement. Cette balise est également située en bord de voie et non entre les rails pour des questions de facilité de maintenance. Nous utilisons une technique de focalisation du signal émis depuis la balise vers l'antenne embarquée sur le train. Puisque la distance de communication balise au sol - interrogateur est portée à quelques mètres, la télé alimentation par couplage inductif actuelle n'est plus possible. Disposer d'une infrastructure centrale pour alimenter toutes les balises présentes sur le réseau n'est pas réaliste non plus. Une solution raisonnable et économe consiste à générer de l'énergie électrique basse tension localement en utilisant des énergies renouvelables (solaire, éolienne...), et en limitant le plus possible la consommation d'énergie de l'électronique de la balise. Dans cette optique, la contribution scientifique présentée consiste à développer et à optimiser, en termes d'énergie consommée, la couche physique de communication de cet équipement. Nous optons pour la technique radio Ultra Large Bande (ULB) performante à courte portée associée à la technique du Retournement Temporel (RT) afin de focaliser spatialement les signaux de la balise vers la voie pour une meilleure optimisation d'énergie. Celles-ci offrent la possibilité de créer des systèmes de communication économes en énergie d'alimentation et faciles à réaliser à coût limité. Pour définir un système de communication ULB efficace, nous développons des modèles permettant d'évaluer la consommation énergétique selon les paramètres de la couche physique (type de modulation, nombre d'utilisateurs, codages...) ainsi que du canal de propagation en prenant en compte à la fois l'énergie nécessaire à la transmission et l'énergie requise par la circuiterie. Nous développons ensuite des modèles permettant de comparer un système ULB conventionnel et un système ULB avec RT. Lors d'une dernière étape, nous comparons un système Multi Output Single Input (MISO) avec et sans RT à un système Single Input Single Output (SISO) avec et sans RT et nous proposons une démarche permettant d'établir des comparaisons énergétiques directement sur carte FPGA permettant de valider les modèles énergétiques théoriques. In railway signaling, accurate and safe localization of trains is of paramount importance for the safe exploitation of railway networks. Therefore, train odometry has received considerable interest. Usually, train odometers manage different embarked sensors including wheel counters and Doppler radars that compute the position and the speed of the trains. However, as trains move, these proprioceptive sensors accumulate drifts and, as a consequence, train localization accuracy is compromised after several kilometers. In order to fix this drift problem, railway signaling uses beacons installed at ground, on the track, between the rails. Installed every several kilometers, they transmit absolute localization information to trains passing over them thus, bringing back locally the drifts to zero. These beacons constitute major components of railway signaling and also one of the very last equipment installed between the rails. Existing railway beacons are placed on the rails for two main reasons. First of all, since in these conditions the radio link between the train and the beacons remains very short, in the order of a few tens of centimeters, placing the beacons on the rails is very helpful to deliver an accurate local absolute localization to the train. Moreover using this very short radio communication range, while passing over them, trains can supply electrical energy to the beacons by magnetically coupling radiofrequency energy from the train to the beacon. This radiofrequency energy is detected and converted in DC power supply to feed the beacon electronics. This very short range leads to a satisfactory transfer of energy between train and beacon. As indicated previously, beacons can just be position indicators; however, they can also handle communication between grounds and trains using a peer to peer radio link. In this case, communication is only active when the train passes over the beacons, thus, the effective communication time is very short. As another major drawback of this particular implementation between the rails, track maintenance requires disassembling the beacons and then repositioning them safely and accurately.

In this paper a detailed description of an automated mm-wave antenna measurement setup is given, and gain and directivity measurement results are shown for a standard gain horn antenna and an integrated antenna at 280 GHz. The setup comprises a vector network analyzer (VNA) with frequency converters for different frequency bands, a six degree of freedom industrial robot, and a controller that provides the interface and controls the measurements. This setup makes it possible to measure gain, directivity, radiated power, and efficiency of both waveguide fed and integrated chip antennas at frequencies between 60 GHz and 330GHz with high accuracy. A cylindrical dielectric resonator antenna is proposed as a radiator for an active integrated antenna. Harmonic tuning, which is the key step in designing active antenna radiators, is achieved via a combination of shape factor control over the resonator and insertion of reactive elements in the feed system. Numerical simulations are carried out in a finite elements framework and a layout for the complete antenna is proposed, aimed at compactness for subsequent utilization of the radiator as an element in an active array for satellite communications.

The in-phase radiation from a conformal metamaterial surface is numerically and experimentally reported. The LC-resonant metasurface is composed of a simultaneously capacitive and an inductive grid constituted by copper strips printed on both sides of a dielectric board. The metasurface is designed to fit a curved surface by modifying its local phase. The latter phase-compensated metasurface is used as a reflector in a conformal Fabry-Pérot resonant cavity designed to operate at microwave frequencies. Far-field measurements performed on a fabricated prototype allow showing the good performances of such a phase-compensated metasurface in restoring in-phase emissions from the conformal surface and producing a directive emission in the desired direction.

In this paper, the definition of antenna specifications for radio system deployment as well as a methodology to integrate them in confined environments is presented. Modal-based analysis and optimization techniques for mode-weight adjustments are used to determine correct co-excitation of the propagating modes and fulfill the desired specifications.

The pigment-protein complexes of the photosynthetic apparatus play a major role in the capacity of adaptation to light environment of oxyphototrophic organisms.In order to better understand the mechanisms involved in both photoacclimation (in the physiological sense) and photoadaptation (in the evolutive sense) processes, this study used as a model organism the marine prokaryote Prochlorococcus, which in the field is able to sustain growth and photosynthesis over almost four orders of magnitude of light.The biochemical characterization of the photosystem I has shown that the reaction center I can bind some Chl b and that some minor proteins highly diverge from those of typical cyanobacteria containing phycobilisomes. Since this photosystem is particularly conserved within oxyphototrophic organisms, these modifications likely have implications on the biophysical and biochemical properties of this photosystem.The most remarkable peculiarity of the photosynthetic apparatus of Prochloroccus is certainly the multiplication of genes encoding the major light harvesting antenna (pcb) in low-sight strains (5-7 copies), whereas only a single pcb copy is present in high-light adapted strains. This phenomenon, which probably results from a long term adaptation to different light niches in the ocean, is certainly one of the main factors responsible for the differences observed between the Prochlorococcus ecotypes at both the pigment and physiological levels. The expression pattern at the transcriptional level of several genes encoding photosynthetic proteins (pcb, psbA, psbC, psbD) is also typical and suggest the occurrence of a regulation process of light absorption specific from Prochlorococcus. In the last part of this phD, the structural comparison of Prochlorococcus antenna with other Chl-binding proteins of the photosynthetic apparatus and the analysis of the MED4 genome led us to re-examine the relationships between the antenna complexes of eukaryotes and Chl b-containing prokaryotes as well as the major subunits of the reaction center I.; Les complexes pigments-protéines de l'appareil photosynthétique jouent un rôle primordial dans la capacité d'adaptation à la lumière des organismes oxyphototrophes. Afin de mieux comprendre les mécanismes impliqués dans les processus de photoacclimatation (au sens physiologique du terme) et/ou de photoadaptation (au sens évolutif du terme), le modèle utilisé lors de cette étude a été le procaryote marin Prochlorococcus qui, dans la nature, peut croître et photosynthétiser dans une gamme de lumière couvrant environ 4 ordres de magnitude. La caractérisation biochimique du photosystème I de Prochlorococcus a permis de montrer que les protéines du centre réactionnel (PsaA et PsaB) fixaient de la chlorophylle b et que deux protéines mineures, PsaF et PsaL, présentaient des divergences importantes par rapport à celles des cyanobactéries typiques possédant des phycobilisomes. Ce photosystème étant particulièrement bien conversé parmi les organismes oxyphototrophes, ces modifications ont probablement des implications sur les propriétés biophysiques et biochimiques de ce complexe.La spécificité la plus remarquable de l'appareil photosynthétique de Prochlorococcus est sans doute la multiplication du nombre de copies du gène codant l'antenne collectrice (pcb) chez les souches adaptées à forte lumière. Ce phénomène, qui, semble résulter d'une adaptation à long terme aux différents niches lumineuses présentes dans les océans, est probablement l'un des facteurs principaux responsables des différences pigmentaires et physiologiques observées entre ces deux écotypes de Prochlorococcus. Le contrôle au niveau transcriptionnel de l'expression de certains gènes codant pour des protéines photosynthétiques (pcb, pcbA, pcbC, pcbD) est également atypique et suggère l'existence de processus de régulation de la lumière absorbée spécifiques à Prochlorococcus. Enfin, la comparaison structurale de l'antenne de Prochlorococcus avec d'autres protéines photosynthétiques liant la chlorophylle et l'analyse du génome de la souche MED4 nous a amené à réexaminer les relations entre les différentes protéines pigmentaires. Un schéma évolutif de ces protéines est proposé, mettant en évidence les éventuels liens entre les antennes collectrices des eucaryotes et celles des procaryotes à chlorophylle b sont ainsi qu'avec les sous-unités majeures du centre réactionnel I.

This paper deals with the analysis of the transient disturbances produced above of a train due to the pantograph-catenary power supply system. The goal is to study the contribution of the different elements of the train and the infrastructure on the electromagnetic disturbances which are received by communication antennas presents on the roof of the trains. A train simulation model is performed in order to permit us to perform complete parametric analyses, notably allowing the variation of the antennas characteristics. The disturbance sources considered are those coming from the losses of contact between the pantograph and the catenary wire and the opening and closing of the circuit breaker. This paper preliminary analyses experimental results in order to identify the main factors involving in the transient disturbances received by the antennas and to design an efficient model. The quality of the designed simulation model is discussed by comparison between simulation and experimental results.

Gradient refractive index (GRIN) structure is an optical result generated by a progressive variationof the refractive index of a host medium to improve the design of new microwave devices 1. So thesehost medium modifications can be used to produce lenses for all electromagnetic spectrums withflat surfaces, or 3D volumes that do not have the aberrations of traditional spherical lenses or mayhave a refraction gradient with a spherical, axial or radial variations [1, 2]. This refraction gradientcan be realized in a homogeneous or inhomogeneous medium using subtractive or additive methodsas a material porosity control technique. Porosity, or void fraction, is a technological method topermittivity control a measure of the void as a subtractive method by reducing the host mediumor using a ratio of the material filling as an additive method, which can have a percentage between0% and 100%, to realize the final platform [3].Porous structures embedded in the homogeneous framework are of scientific and GRIN lensdesign interests because of their ability to achieve intended virtual permittivity throughout thebulk of the material. Not surprisingly, traditional virtual permittivity control with porous materialsinvolving dielectrics by reducing a density (filling ratio) of spherical or cylindrical holes was alreadydemonstrated in the 1950s along with all the techniques with the high freedom design order thatcould be produced with an additive manufacturing process [4]. Unfortunately, these results have notbeen given much attention today despite the very interesting and accurate analysis. In the 1950s,the first analysis to control virtual permittivity using an array of spherical and cylindrical cells inTeflon and polystyrene was investigated and proven with mathematical expressions [5, 4]. Basedon cylindrical pore analyses, for high length-to-diameter ratio, the control of permittivity is relateddirectly to the orientation of electric fields and cylindrical pore axes. By using these porositymethods, the permittivity control in the ranges between 1.1 up to host medium permittivity isobtainable. To expand this range, porous cells liquid materials such as acetonitrile/benzene mixturecan be used to fill and increase relative permittivity of host medium up to = 37.In this thesis, we have introduced novel and optimized concepts in the frame of mmWave communications, namely nonmagnetic (n =√µ, µ = 1) gradient refractive index (∆n) lens antennas.The two ideas are intended for improving current manufacturing technologies for GRIN devices inthe mmWave spectrum: the Lüneburg lens and Fresnel zone plates (FZPs) in the homogeneousframework. On the one hand, material porosity can be useful to simplify virtual permittivity design, not only in the implementation and measurement steps but also to potentially enable new andbroadband properties cells with simplified schemes for impairment compensation in the mmWave,and sub-mmWave spectrums. On the other hand, permittivity control techniques based on material porosity can also facilitate the development of new GRIN device design techniques for lensapplications. In fact, the introduction of material theory based on material porosity processing isconsidered to be one of the most encouraging methods to control the intrinsic permittivity of thematerial.As a collective conclusion, regarding the extensive range of applications of permittivity controlwith porous structures, we can foresee the vast amount of exciting uses for the graded mediumdesign in planar or 3D objects. Due to the extensive collection of utilization, this proposed conceptuses 3D printing devices that can be employed (some of them have been experimentally confirmedin this thesis), and the presented project may motivate the development of an innovative form oflens devices, more efficient lens devices as an antenna in the areas of mmWave communication.Advantages of these virtual permittivity design using full dielectric or full metal homogeneousapproaches include (i) a notable simplification of the currently required graded setups based onmaterial change approach to achieve the equivalent variety of functionalities; (ii) the possibility ofrealizing all-optical GRIN devices for lens antenna design applications, with development from mmto nm printing ranges to be achieved, so far, through additive manufacturing technology widely usednowadays; and (iii) the significant rest of previous GRIN medium design practical difficulties in thelens devices manufacturing processes is solved. All the suggested schemes appear as stable anddependable solutions for efficiently GRIN lens designs of practical applications, and they may alsobe entirely placed in the industry for short-term fabrication. Overall, we expect that the contributedinvestigation outcome of our porous design approach for the lens antenna design will have a markedlyrelevant scientific and economic effect in such diverse areas as mmWave communication and wavefocus applications., La structure de l’indice de réfraction de gradient (GRIN) est un résultat optique généré par unevariation progressive de l’indice de réfraction d’un milieu hôte pour améliorer la conception denouveaux dispositifs à micro-ondes 1. Ainsi, ces modifications du milieu hôte peuvent être utiliséespour produire des lentilles pour tous les spectres électromagnétiques à surfaces planes, ou volumes3D ne présentant pas les aberrations des lentilles sphériques traditionnelles ou présentant un gradientde réfraction avec des variations sphériques, axiales ou radiales [1, 2]. Ce gradient de réfractionpeut être réalisé dans un milieu homogène ou inhomogène en utilisant des méthodes soustractivesou additives comme technique de contrôle de la porosité du matériau. La porosité, ou fraction devide, est une méthode technologique de contrôle de la permittivité permettant de mesurer le videcomme méthode soustractive en réduisant le milieu hôte ou en utilisant un ratio du remplissage dematériau comme méthode additive, qui peut avoir un pourcentage entre 0 % et 100 %, pour réaliserla plate-forme finale [3].Les structures poreuses intégrées dans le cadre homogène ont des intérêts scientifiques et trouvent leur utilité dans la conception de lentilles GRIN en raison de leur capacité à atteindre lapermittivité virtuelle voulue dans la masse du matériau. Sans surprise, le contrôle de la permittivité virtuelle traditionnelle avec des matériaux poreux impliquant des diélectriques en réduisant ladensité (taux de remplissage) des trous sphériques ou cylindriques était déjà prouvée dans les années1950 de même que toutes les techniques avec l’ordre de conception de haute liberté qui pourraitêtre produit avec un processus de fabrication additif [4]. Malheureusement, ces résultats n’ont pasreçu beaucoup d’attention aujourd’hui malgré l’analyse très intéressante et précise. Dans les années1950, la première analyse visant à contrôler la permittivité virtuelle, en utilisant un tableau decellules sphériques et cylindriques dans le Téflon et le polystyrène, a été étudiée et prouvée avec desexpressions mathématiques [5, 4]. En fait, l’introduction de la théorie des matériaux basée sur le traitement de la porosité estl’une des méthodes les plus encourageantes pour contrôler la permittivité intrinsèque du matériau.En conclusion, en ce qui concerne la vaste gamme d’applications du contrôle de la permittivité avec des structures poreuses, nous pouvons prévoir plusieurs cas d’utilisations passionnantespour le design gradué du support dans les objets planaires ou 3D. En raison de la vaste collectiond’utilisation, ce concept proposé utilise des dispositifs d’impression 3D (certains d’entre eux ont étéconfirmés expérimentalement dans cette thèse), et le projet présenté peut motiver le développementd’une forme innovante de dispositif de lentilles plus efficaces sous forme d’antenne dans les domainesde la communication mmWave. Les avantages de cette conception de la permittivité virtuelle enutilisant des approches homogènes diélectriques ou métalliques complètes comprennent: (i) unesimplification notable des configurations graduées actuellement requises et basées sur l’approche dechangement de matériau pour obtenir la variété équivalente de fonctionnalités; (ii) la possibilitéde réaliser des dispositifs GRIN tout optique pour des applications de conception d’antennes delentilles, avec développement de plages d’impression de mm à nm à atteindre, jusqu’à présent, grâceà une technologie de fabrication additive largement utilisée de nos jours; et (iii) le reste significatifdes difficultés pratiques antérieures de conception de milieu GRIN dans les procédés de fabricationdes dispositifs de lentilles est résolu. Tous les schémas proposés apparaissent comme des solutionsstables et fiables pour des conceptions de lentilles GRIN efficaces pour des applications pratiques, etils peuvent également être entièrement intégrés dans l’industrie pour une fabrication à court terme.Dans l’ensemble, nous nous attendons à ce que le résultat de notre approche de conception poreusepour la conception d’antennes à lentilles ait un effet scientifique et économique nettement pertinentdans des domaines aussi divers telque la communication mmWave et les applications de focalisationdes ondes.

One key feature of this receiver is its direction-finding capabilities. It is indeed possible to retrieve direction of arrival, flux density and state of polarization of an incident electromagnetic wave, although the dipole antennas connected to the receiver have no angular resolution. On the instrumental side, I carried out antenna calibrations and developped direction-finding inversion methods adapted to such receivers. I have studied the jovian magnetosphere through 2 aspects. First, we have obtained a new reference spectrum of of jovian radio emission within the band of RPWS/HFR. Among all the jovian radio emissions, I focused on the quasi-periodic bursts. This jovian radio component is the only one for which we do not know the source. Saturnian radio observations began in january 2004, through a joint observation campaign Hubble Space Telescope (HST) / Cassini. The UV HST camera have observed the auroral zone of saturn while Cassini was in the solar wind, approaching the planet. The HST observations are compared to radio ones, in terms of density flux and polarization. The first preliminary results of this study are in complete agreement with the Voyager ones. Last, I present a proposition of explanation to the variability of the apparent sidereal radio period of Saturn, measured by the mean of the auroral radio emission modulations.; La mission Cassini, dédiée à l'étude de l'environnement de Saturne, comporte un récepteur radio (RPWS/HFR) couvrant la gamme 3.5 kHz-16 MHz, adaptée aux émissions radio de Saturne. La particularité de ce récepteur réside dans ces capacités goniopolarimétriques. En effet, malgré le fait que les dipôles qui lui sont connectées n'ont aucune résolution spatiale, on pourra retrouver la direction d'arrivée, le flux et l'état de polarisation de l'onde électromagnétique incidente. La partie instrumentale de mon travail a consisté d'une part à étalonner les antennes du récepteur et d'autre part, à développer des méthodes d'inversions goniopolarimétriques adaptées à ce type de récepteur. Une étude de la physique magnétosphérique de Jupiter a été entreprise. Nous avons obtenir, grâce à nos étalonnage, un nouveau spectre de référence des émissions radio jovienne dans la gamme du récepteur RPWS/HFR. Parmi toutes les émissions radio de la magnétosphère de Jupiter, j'ai choisi d'étudié plus particulièrement les sursauts quasi-périodiques seule composante jovienne dont on ne connaît pas l'origine. Les observations radio de Saturne ont débuté en janvier 2004 lors d'une campagne commune HST (téléscope spatial Hubble) Cassini. La caméra UV du HST a observé les aurores polaires de Saturne pendant que Cassini approchait la planète. Les observations HST sont comparées aux données radio, en terme de flux et de polarisation. Les résultats, préliminaires de cette étude sont en accord avec les résultats de Voyager. Enfin, je présente une proposition d'explication de la variabilité de la période apparente de rotation sidérale de Saturne mesurée grâce aux modulations des émissions radio.
