Nanoparticles synthesised using natural resources is a cost-effective and ecofriendly technique with a number of advantages. In current work, silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) have been synthesized using the extract of Fragaria ananassa seeds. The extract was used as a source of phytochemicals that can act as reducing and stabilizing agents. The characteristics of AgNPs were determined by UV/Visible, FTIR, SEM, XRD and Dynamic light scattering (DLS) techniques. The appearance of the distinctive absorption peak in UV-visible spectra at 430 nm confirmed the formation of AgNPs. The involvement of different bioactive functional groups with AgNPs was authenticated by FTIR studies. Particle size and morphology was confirmed by DLS, SEM and XRD analysis. The catalytic potential of AgNPs for the removal of poisonous organic dyes, brilliant green (BG) and methyl orange (MO) was also tested. Effect of different parameters including the catalyst concentration, dyes concentration and presence of different salts on the degradation of dyes was investigated. Nano-size and well-distributed nature of AgNPs, BG and MO dyes were degraded rapidly individually as well as simultaneously. The degradation process obeyed pseudo first order kinetics. Authors concluded that AgNPs synthesized using environment friendly and cost-effective method, can be used as a new tool to combat pollution caused by carcinogenic organic dyes.

The current study was designed to assess the efficiency of ozone (O3) as a green technology in the detoxification of aflatoxins (AFs) in luncheon and kofta. Both products can deliver AFs to consumers where all samples revealed more than one of the major AF B1, B2, G1, and G2. Kofta contained a higher level (15.2 ppb) of total AFs compared to luncheon (4.8 ppb). By exposing samples to O3, the degree of detoxification was proportional to O3 concentration. At 20 ppm O3, the most detoxified AFs were AFB2 (67.1%) and AFG1 (68.3%) while the reduction in other AFs ranged from 11.6 – 55.2% and 44.7 – 61.4% for luncheon and kofta, respectively. By 40 ppm O3, the most detoxified AFs were AFG1 (100%) and AFB2 (91.7%) while the reduction in other AFs ranged from 54.6 – 85.7 % and 61.4 – 78.4%, respectively. By the two applied concentrations, O3none significantly lowered the pH values of samples. Lipid stability was inversely proportional with O3 concentration as fat was more stable at 20 compared to 40 ppm O3, where kofta appeared higher stability compared to luncheon. Ozone appeared able to eliminate or significantly reduce AFs in raw and ready-to-eat meat products with negligible changes in physicochemical properties.

Supply chain management is very critical for organizations and national economic development. Researchers and practitioners need to assess where nations are in terms of their supply chain management maturity level by identifying gaps in both practices and research. This paper aims to analyze the supply chain body of knowledge in the Indonesian context to contribute to the collection of knowledge of supply chain management in Indonesia. A structured content analysis was used to assess research papers published in English and Indonesian in peer-reviewed and accredited journals. The results proved the lack of research in the Supply chain management area within the Indonesian context. Future research guidelines were also presented as a result of this study.

Text summarization is essential in natural language processing as the data volume increases quickly. Therefore, the user needs to summarize that data into a meaningful text in a short time. There are two common methods of text summarization: extractive and abstractive. There are many efforts to summarize Latin texts. However, summarizing Arabic texts is challenging for many reasons, including the language’s complexity, structure, and morphology. Also, there is a need for benchmark data sources and a gold standard Arabic evaluation metrics summary. Thus, the contribution of this paper is multi-fold: First, the paper proposes a hybrid approach consisting of a Modified Sequence-To-Sequence (MSTS) model and a transformer-based model. The seq-to-seq-based model is modified by adding multi-layer encoders and a one-layer decoder to its structure. The output of the MSTS model is the extractive summarization. To generate the abstractive summarization, the extractive summarization is manipulated by a transformer-based model. Second, it introduces a new Arabic benchmark dataset, called the HASD, which includes 43k articles with their extractive and abstractive summaries. Third, this work modifies the well-known extractive EASC benchmarks by adding to each text its abstractive summarization. Finally, this paper proposes a new measure called the Arabic-rouge measure for the abstractive summary depending on structure and similarity between words. The proposed method is tested using the proposed HASD and Modified EASC benchmarks and evaluated using Rouge, Bleu, and Arabic Rouge. The experimental results show satisfactory results compared to state-of-the-art methods.

This thesis presents several studies to improve and develop automated manufacturing systems along with introducing and evaluating the characteristics of various advanced multifunction composite structures. This research also provides high-performance composites that can bring various benefits for aerospace vehicles such as superior stiffness, lightweight, electrical conductivity, lightning strike protection, electrical grounding, and ductility that can be useful for frame integrity in crash load situations.

Vanillin (VLN) is generally used in bakery food products as an aroma enhancer and flavoring agent. Hence it is important to develop a powerful and rapid tool to monitor the concentration of VLN levels concerning food safety. In this paper, a simple sensor was proposed by electropolymerized Aspartic acid (ASP) modified on Graphene and Graphite composite paste electrode (PASPMGN/CPE) for the detection of VLN by differential pulse voltammetry (DPV). PASPMGN/CPE ranked to have high electrocatalytic kinetics towards electro-oxidation of VLN, in optimized conditions. The electrochemical process of VLN is portrayed to be irreversible and adsorption-controlled kinetics by the cyclic voltammetry (CV) method. The surface features were studied using Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy (FE-SEM), Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy (EDX), Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) and CV. From DPV results, the oxidative peak current showed linear growth toward the concentration of VLN ranging from 1.0 μM to 15.0 μM with a limit of detection and quantification of 4.85 μM and 16.2 μM. The modified sensor attained to be highly selective with common possible interferents. PASPMGN/CPE was efficient in detecting VLN in vanilla pods, essence and bakery product samples.

Purpose While several warehouses are now technologically equipped and smart, the implementation of real-time analytics in warehouse operations is scarcely reported in the literature. This study aims to develop a practical system for real-time analytics of process monitoring in an internet-of-things (IoT)-enabled smart warehouse environment. Design/methodology/approach A modified system development research process was used to carry out this research. A prototype system was developed that mimicked a case company’s actual warehouse operations in Indonesia’s manufacturing companies. The proposed system relied heavily on the utilization of IoT technologies, wireless internet connection and web services to keep track of the product movement to provide real-time access to critical warehousing activities, helping make better, faster and more informed decisions. Findings The proposed system in the presented case company increased real-time warehousing processes visibility for stakeholders at different management levels in their most convenient ways by developing visual representation to display crucial information. The numerical or textual data were converted into graphics for ease of understanding for stakeholders, including field operators. The key elements for the feasible implementation of the proposed model in an industrial area were discussed. They are strategic-level components, IoT-enabled warehouse environments, customized middleware settings, real-time processing software and visual dashboard configuration. Research limitations/implications While this study shows a prototype-based implementation of actual warehouse operations in one of Indonesia’s manufacturing companies, the architectural requirements are applicable and extensible by other companies. In this sense, the research offers significant economic advantages by using customized middleware to avoid unnecessary waste brought by the off-the-shelves generic middleware, which is not entirely suitable for system development. Originality/value This research’s finding contributes to filling the gap in the limited body of knowledge of real-time analytics implementation in warehousing operations. This should encourage other researchers to enhance and develop the devised elements to enrich smart warehousing’s theoretical knowledge. Besides, the successful proof-of-concept implementation reported in this research would allow other companies to gain valuable insights and experiences.

Purpose Creating a real-time data integration when developing an internet-of-things (IoT)-based warehouse is still faced with challenges. It involves a diverse knowledge of novel technology and skills. This study aims to identify the critical components of the real-time data integration processes in IoT-based warehousing. Then, design and apply a data integration framework, adopting the IoT concept to enable real-time data transfer and sharing. Design/methodology/approach The study used a pilot experiment to verify the data integration system configuration. Radio-frequency identification (RFID) technology was selected to support the integration process in this study, as it is one of the most recognized products of IoT. Findings The experimentations’ results proved that data integration plays a significant role in structuring a combination of assorted data on the IoT-based warehouse from various locations in a real-time manner. This study concluded that real-time data integration processes in IoT-based warehousing could be generated into three significant components: configuration, databasing and transmission. Research limitations/implications While the framework in this research was carried out in one of the developing counties, this study’s findings could be used as a foundation for future research in a smart warehouse, IoT and related topics. The study provides guidelines for practitioners to design a low-cost IoT-based smart warehouse system to obtain more accurate and timely data to support the quick decision-making process. Originality/value The research at hand provides the groundwork for researchers to explore the proposed theoretical framework and develop it further to increase inventory management efficiency of warehouse operations. Besides, this study offers an economical alternate for an organization to implement the integration software reasonably.

PurposeThe literature on Kaizen transferability to non-Japanese culture is still evolving. The results suggest that the relevant research is still at a descriptive and explanatory stage. This study aims to identify and prioritize the importance of significant Kaizen transferability factors in a non-Japanese culture.Design/methodology/approachA decision theory-based prescriptive analysis methodology was used to analyze identified Kaizen transferability success factors. Firstly, a list of Kaizen transferability factors was devised from the literature using a systematic literature review. Secondly, an integrated interpretative structure modeling and analytic network process approach were applied to generate preference among factors.FindingsA framework with a prioritized Kaizen transferability success factors included, in ascending order, organization culture, employee participation, employee discipline, employee personal initiative, top management commitment, management enforcement, employee eagerness, management support and national culture and traditions.Research limitations/implicationsManagers and decision-makers would better understand where to direct their effort and attention to implement the Kaizen management philosophy to improve firm-level productivity. Although the factors studied in this research considered the Indonesian context, the proposed framework could be replicated and extended to include other cultures.Originality/valueThe present work contributes to the limited studies and documentation on Kaizen activities' transferability challenges and the Kaizen body of knowledge in developing countries. This study should help organizations in other developing countries, assimilate how to adopt and manage the Kaizen philosophy implementation by following the framework created in this research.

Purpose Real-time visibility and traceability in warehousing could be accomplished by implementing the internet-of-things (IoT) technology. The purpose of this paper is to develop a roadmap for designing an IoT-based smart warehouse infrastructure and, respectively, design and apply the IoT-based smart warehouse infrastructure using a developed roadmap. More specifically, this study first identifies critical components to design an IoT-based smart warehouse infrastructure. Second, the study at hand identifies essential factors that contribute to the successful implementation of IoT-based smart warehouse infrastructure. Design/methodology/approach A qualitative-descriptive method, through a comprehensive review of the relevant studies, was used in this study to develop a roadmap. A prototype system was then designed to simulate a case company’s actual warehouse operations in one of the manufacturing companies in Indonesia. Findings A framework was proposed which is viable for designing an IoT-based smart warehouse infrastructure. Based on the data collected from a case company, the proposed smart warehouse infrastructure design successfully implemented real-time visibility and traceability and improved overall warehouse efficiency. Research limitations/implications While the framework in this research was carried out in one of the developing counties, the study could be used as the basis for future research in a smart warehouse, IoT and related topics. Originality/value This research enhances the limited knowledge to establish the IoT infrastructure for a smart warehouse to enable real-time visibility and traceability. This study is also the first to specifically propose a framework for designing an IoT-based smart warehouse infrastructure. The proposed framework can motivate companies in developing countries to deploy efficient and effective smart warehouses using IoT to drive the countries’ economic growth.

PurposeThe food supply chain (FSC) challenges coupled with global disruptions, such as the recent coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic outbreak, exacerbate its vulnerability. The Internet of things (IoT) is one of the disruptive technologies being adopted in food supply chain management (FSCM). This study aims to address the challenges of IoT adoption in the FSC by systematically analyzing the prior pertinent literature.Design/methodology/approachA structured literature review was used to collate a list of peer-reviewed and relevant publications. A total of 72 out of 210 articles were selected for the final evaluation.FindingsThe literature review findings suggest five themes: technical, financial, social, operational, educational and governmental related challenges. A total of 15 challenges were devised from the review related literature of IoT adoption. The study concludes with future research recommendations for scholars and practical implications for practitioners.Research limitations/implicationsWhile this study focuses on the overall FSC, further research should address other domains in the FSC such as cold supply chain, agriculture and perishable food to gain a better contextual understanding of the specific case.Originality/valueThe topic of IoT adoption in the FSCM is still considered emerging. Therefore, the present work contributes to the limited studies and documentation on the level of IoT implementation in the FSCM. This study should help organizations to assimilate how to adopt and manage the IoT application by addressing the factors and challenges presented in this research.

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to investigate the tendency of leaders to select their followers depending on their human capital factors such as age, education level, previous working experience and training.Design/methodology/approachThe participants were 1,388 employees working in a randomly selected sample of 289 small-sized businesses operating in Yemen. A self-reported questionnaire was used to collect the data. The correspondence analysis method was used to explore the tendency of leaders to select their followers depending on their human capital factors.FindingsWe found significant corresponding relationships between leadership styles and the selection of the followers' human capital factors. The passive avoidant style was found to select middle-age, long-experience and fully-trained followers. Transactional style on the other hand was found to select young, middle-level experience and non-trained followers. The transformational leadership style was found to have no selection preferences towards any of the human capital factors except for working experience.Originality/valueAlthough, some previous studies tried to understand the leaders–followers relationships, no one investigated the tendency of leaders to select their followers according to their preferences. This study contributes significantly to the leaders–followers theory by studying the selection process of the leadership style of their followers' human capital factors. Understanding this phenomenon could help explain why some leadership styles are more effective than others, especially in very limited resources contexts such as micro-sized businesses.

PurposeWhile ISO 9001 standard certification is approaching saturation in developed countries, other nations are still struggling with the implementation of ISO 9001. This study provides insights into countries with a very low number of registered certifications to understand the reasons behind the limited implementations, more particularly using evidence from Yemen. The objective of the study is to assess: the awareness, understanding, motivations, barriers and the benefits of implementing ISO 9001.Design/methodology/approachA survey was conducted to measure awareness levels, understanding, driving factors, barriers and the benefits of ISO 9001. Data collection was carried out through the classification of targeted firms into two separate categories, certified and noncertified organizations. The classification of firms was conducted to enrich the understanding from two different perspectives. A total of 72 responses, from companies ranging in size from large to small, and in both the private and public sectors, were analyzed using the descriptive and multiple correspondence analysis (MCA).FindingsThe data analysis showed that the limited implementation of ISO 9001 certifications could be due to several internal and external factors such as the relatively low awareness level of the certification and guidelines, and the inconsistency of understanding the certification purpose. The benefits focused solely on improving the quality of systems efficiency and increasing quality awareness, and not on internationalization.Research limitations/implicationsThe findings of this work provide the groundwork for decision-makers to understand the drivers and challenges of ISO 9001 to plan corrective actions and contribute to promote and increase the number of certified organizations in similar countries and economies. While the data in this study were collected in the context of one country, the methodology and framework used in this study can be utilized by other researchers to collect data in similar countries with a low number of ISO 9001 certifications.Originality/valueThis research is one of the very few that addresses the limited implementation of ISO 9001 in the Middle East and North Africa region and Yemen in particular.

The purpose of this study is to market the Nubian character and to highlight the interesting artistic aspects of the Nubian heritage and to show the world its beautiful appearance. Nubia is considered one of the most significant areas with tourism components. Such components have not been exploited efficiently, which affects negatively the local development of the region. A survey is conducted a group of tourists that viewed the Nubian characters to get acquainted with their views on the provided tourism services. The results indicate that there is an agreement which there was a high level of motivation of travelling to the Nubian society.in addition to the statements Advantages of the Nubian inheritance. Moreover, the results showed that the hotel services provided in Nubian society were characterized by high level of service, which the statement of the quality of food and decor have the highest level of services provided in Nubian. Motivational intensity is fundamental for any language learner in order to succeed. This research addressed motivational intensity in the context of French language learners in a non-francophone country, Yemen. It also investigated the level of desire to learn French among university students. The present research answered the following questions: Do undergraduate learners of the French language have a high or a low level of motivational intensity in their learning of French? How much do undergraduate learners of the French language desire to learn French? Among the undergraduate learners of the French language, is there any gender difference in the level of motivational intensity and their desire to learn French? A stratified random sample of 69 students was sampled out of a population of 145 enrolled students from different levels in the Department of French Language and Literature at Sana’a University. The survey was comprised of 11 questions that were selected and modified from Gardner’s Attitude, Motivation Test Battery Questionnaire (1985a). The items for this survey addressed two specific variables: motivational intensity and desire to learn French. The findings of this research showed that Yemeni undergraduate learners of French have a high level of motivational intensity and a significant amount of desire for learning the French language and culture. The findings also implied that male learners have a slightly higher level of motivational intensity and desire to learn French than their female counterparts.

Objective To evaluate the impact of Intravascular ultrasound guidance on the final volume of contrast agent utilized in diabetic patients undergoing PCI for chronic stable angina. Background To date, few approaches have been described to reduce the final dose of contrast agent in percutaneous coronary interventions (PCI). We hypothesized that intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) might serve as an adjuctive imaging tool in many steps during PCI, thereby reducing the use of iodine contrast. Methods A total of 100 Diabeic Egyptian patients were selected to angiography-guided PCI or IVUSguided PCI from June 2019 to January 2020 .The study type was case control and non consecutive . Both groups were treated according to a pre-defined meticulous procedural strategy. A written informed consent was taken from all patients.The primary endpoint was the total volume contrast agent used during PCI. Patients were followed clinically for an average of 6 months. Results The median total volume of contrast was 111.65 ml (interquartile range [IQR] 170.40 ± 52.91ml , range from 100 ml to 300 ml) in angiography-guided group vs. 56.99 ml (IQR 94.70 ± 19.28ml , range from 70 ml to 180 ml) in IVUS-guided group (p Conclusions Thoughtful and extensive utilization of IVUS as the primary imaging tool to guide PCI is safe, and markedly reduces the volume of iodine contrast, compared to angiography alone guidance.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to discover the most important productivity determinants of Yemeni microfinance institutions. In addition, this study tests the most appropriate tool to measure productivity in such unique industry. Design/methodology/approach The authors applied data envelopment analysis (DEA) with the variable return to scale after testing the technology return to scale assumption. Then, they used DEA with bootstrapping technique to overcome the borne biasness in the conventional DEA analysis. Finally, the authors presented the Hicks–Moorsteen (total factor productivity [TFP]) as the most suitable tool for the technology presented in this study. Findings In this paper, the authors found a prolonged deterioration in the productivity scores of microfinance institutions in Yemen. This study highlights the importance of operating in rural areas to improve micro finance institutions’ (MFIs’) productivity. In contrast, they found no significant differences in productivity, neither between microfinance banks and non-governmental organizations nor between Islamic and non-Islamic MFIs. Research limitations/implications This study extends previous research in the area of productivity and its determinants. It also adds to the body of productivity knowledge and methodology within the context of the microfinance industry in Yemen. Originality/value The study discovered new productivity determinants and re-assessed the importance of some already known ones. These determinants have been studied for the first time in Yemen’s microfinance industry and have contributed to answer the question of what is the most suitable productivity method that should be used. This study proved that the Hicks–Moorsteen TFP and the variable return to scale assumption are the only suitable methods to study productivity in the microfinance industry.

Human is exposed to traces of aluminum silicate (AlS), i.e., cosmetics, pesticides. Accumulation of aluminum compounds including AlS is associated with neuropathological diseases, e.g., Alzheimer’s disease. The aim of the current study is to investigate the neuroprotective effects of propolis extracts in AlS-induced cerebellum intoxication in rats. Forty adult rats were randomly divided into four groups (n = 10). The first group served as a control; the second group treated with 200 ml propolis/kg bwt. every other day by stomach gavage tube, third group was intraperitoneally injected with AIS (20 mg/kg) twice a week for 8 weeks, and the fourth group received propolis extract and AIS. At the end of 8 weeks, the cerebellum was harvested for further ultrastructure, histological, and histochemical investigations. Using electron microscopy, the ultrastructure of the cerebellar cortex of AlS intoxicated rats showed Purkinje cells with an irregular euchromatic nucleus and extremely increased invagination of the nuclear envelope. In addition, the cytoplasm revealed numerous damaged mitochondria (> 20%) as well as swollen lysosomes (> 40%) compared to controls. Background: Acute kidney injury (AKI) is repeatedly observed in ventilated critically ill patients with coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) pneumonia. This study aimed to determine the incidence, risk factors, and consequences of AKI in the ventilated critically ill adult patients with COVID-19 pneumonia. Methods: This retrospective study included all the ventilated critically ill adult patients with COVID-19 pneumonia from March 1, 2020, to June 1, 2020. Data were collected from the electronic medical system. AKI was diagnosed using the Kidney Disease: Improving Global Outcomes 2012 Clinical Practice definition. Patients were followed 90 days from the intensive care unit (ICU) admission time or to the date when they were discharged from the hospital. Results: AKI occurred in 65.1% of patients, with 26.6% of these started on continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT). Patients with AKI had higher comorbidity and illness severity scores (P < 0.001). Age and the vasopressor requirements were predictors of AKI (P= 0.016 and P = 0.041) and hypertension predicted AKI (P = 0.099) and its progression (P = 0.05). The renal recovery rate was 86.7% and was associated with the mean arterial pressure on ICU admission in the no-CRRT group (P = 0.014) and the hypoxic index in the CRRT group (P = 0.019). AKI was associated with higher mortality (P = 0.017) and significantly longer ICU length-of-stay (P = 0.001). Additionally, AKI patients were more often discharged to a long-term skilled nursing facility (P = 0.005). Conclusion: COVID-19-associated AKI was common and associated with poor outcome, with the specific mechanisms being the main driving factors.
